not to sound like a stuck record with regards to sam bellamy in ofmd BUT.
if they decide to give us both sam and paulsgrave they would be such neat foils to ed and stede. sam grew up in poverty, came from nothing and became one of the most revered and well-known pirates in history, the prince of pirates. paulsgrave came from a higher born family descended from english royalty, and was happily settled down before he met a wannabe pirate and decided to throw his comfortable life away for adventure with sam on the high seas. and then sam died and paulsgrave blamed himself for convincing them to keep going when they could have retired and lived happily on their newly acquired wealth.
i just think stede meeting a paulsgrave eternally in mourning over the death of sam, a death that he bears and that historically deeply affected many pirates at the time including edward teach, would be very sad and very interesting. paulsgrave seeing a lot of himself in stede and urging him to hold on to what and who he loves while he can. because, platonic or romantic or what, he had an edward once too. and it doesn’t last forever.

I'm trying to get my best friend into OFMD and THANK YOU ALL OF THE BELLHANDS/BELLAMY FANDOM for fan-casting Rahul Kohli because my friend is a huge Mike Flanagan fan (and is also a big Izzy Hands enjoyer from what I showed him so far).
I just told him about Bellamy and Izzy and we are being feral about it

Talk Like a Pirate Day
Avast, me hearties!
I think it only proper that on this day of all days, we should look to the wise words of that scallywag Black Sam Bellamy to a merchant captain of his... acquaintance:
"...Damn ye, you are a sneaking Puppy, and so are all those who will submit to be governed by Laws which rich Men have made for their own Security, for the cowardly Whelps have not the Courage otherwise to defend what they get by their Knavery; but damn ye altogether: Damn them for a Pack of crafty Rascals, and you, who serve them, for a Parcel of hen-hearted Numskuls. They villify us, the Scoundrels do, when there is only this Difference, they rob the Poor under the Cover of Law, forsooth, and we plunder the Rich under the Protection of our own Courage; had you not better make One of us, than sneak after the Arses of those Villains for Employment? "You are a devilish Conscience Rascal, damn ye, I am a free Prince, and I have as much Authority to make War on the whole World, as he who has a hundred Sail of Ships at Sea, and an Army of 100,000 Men in the Field; and this my Conscience tells me; but there is no arguing with such sniveling Puppies, who allow Superiors to kick them about Deck at Pleasure."
If that old tar be not to yer likin', then from sinner to saint we'll go, and bless ye with words of a loftier source, St. Augustine's City o' God:
Justice being taken away, then, what are kingdoms but great robberies? For what are robberies themselves, but little kingdoms? The band itself is made up of men; it is ruled by the authority of a prince, it is knit together by the pact of the confederacy; the booty is divided by the law agreed on. If, by the admittance of abandoned men, this evil increases to such a degree that it holds places, fixes abodes, takes possession of cities, and subdues peoples, it assumes the more plainly the name of a kingdom, because the reality is now manifestly conferred on it, not by the removal of covetousness, but by the addition of impunity. Indeed, that was an apt and true reply which was given to Alexander the Great by a pirate who had been seized. For when that king had asked the man what he meant by keeping hostile possession of the sea, he answered with bold pride, "What thou meanest by seizing the whole earth; but because I do it with a petty ship, I am called a robber, whilst thou who dost it with a great fleet art styled emperor."
'Tis appropriate indeed that the blessed saint who so defended us an' tarred the lords an' mighty with the same brush as we lent his name, long years later, to a Florida town well-known as a pirate haven.

CW nudity mention
Samuel Bellamy and his partner at the time, Edmund Williams, once intimidated a ship they were robbing by stripping naked and boarding her wearing just their pistols.

Pirate Trivia Time:
Here are some of my favourite bits of pirate trivia:
Ann Bonny's name has been spelled "Anne" with an e for 300 years due to a error in the trial record.
The sole surviving physical description of Ann Bonny and Mary Read by an eyewitness is basically "I knew they were women because they had big breasts".
Blackbeard once ransomed the city of Charleston for syphilis medication.
There is no known record of Blackbeard killing anyone before his final battle.
The word "buccaneer" has the same origins as the word "barbecue" (the boucan, a means of preparing meat).
A buccaneer, William Dampier, introduced the word "avocado" (among others) to the English language (he was also the first person to circumnavigate the world three times).
Wrecks of at least two pirate ships have been discovered: "Black Sam" Bellamy's Whydah Galley, and Blackbeard's Queen Anne's Revenge.
Arguably the most successful pirate of all time was a Chinese woman, Ching Shih, aka Zheng Yi Sao.
Bartholomew Roberts had perhaps the most cinematic pirate death- trading broadsides with a man of war in the middle of a tropical storm.
Yes, Stede Bonnet actually had a library on his sloop, the Revenge.

Bristol - The Hatchet Inn - 1606
The Hatchet Inn is a historic pub in the English city of Bristol. It is a Grade II listed building. The name is thought to originate from the axes/hatchets that the local woodsmen used in Clifton Woods.
The building dates from 1606, but has undergone significant alteration since and is a grade II listed building. It is the oldest still operating pub in Bristol.
Since the 1980s the Hatchet has been known as one of Bristol's few alternative pubs hosting rock music upstairs. The pub has a pool room located upstairs as well as a venue which is used for clubs and can be hired for private bookings. There is a beer garden located on the side of the property.
In the 18th century there was a rat pit at the rear of the building. In September 2006 the Hatchet celebrated its 400-year anniversary. The streets nearby were closed, staff and some regular customers dressed up in historic costumes.
The Hatchet Inn is one of the locations in which the novel The Fair Fight by Anna Freeman is set. The Hatchet Inn is also the palace from where the pirate Samuel Bellamy started his trip from England to Cape Cod in Alexander De Chastelaine's novel Black Sam.
The Hatchet is located on 27 Frogmore St, Bristol BS1 5NA close to the City centre and Docklands and is just one of many historic sites in the City...
