I thought about outlining a different telling of the story. Something that acknowledged the breadth of characters that should be in the conversation.

But should I go about it before it comes out or after? Hindsight is 20/20 and all, but if we end up actually going down similar routes...

"I can see dead people." He mentions with a shrug, using the chopsticks to fish more noodles into his mouth.

Dick stares at him. "Huh."

"Is that why you help?" He asks, getting more spring rolls.

"Yeah. Once someone becomes a ghost, word gets out quick, and they come to me. Always tatling about unfairness and justice." The kid waves the words around, rolling his eyes.

Dick just pretens to he uninterested, despite his mind racing at the new info. He is piecing past moments together, every shadow leaping away, every note with tips, leads and—

Huh.

"Do you... like it? Doing all that?" Richard approaches thus carefully, brows furrowed at the kid opposite of him.

Danny moves his head, giving a 'so-so' answer. "It's not much to like, I can see ghosts, and they know it and use it. If it brings them to peace or whatever– well, that's just a plus."

Dick stares. He places his chopsticks down and looks at Danny worried.

In turn, the kid sighs. "Sometimes gifts become curses the longer you have it."

And Dick understands.

Mind made up, he throws a pair of keys at the kid, watching fondly as the other catches them with confusion.

"Next time use these, instead of entering through the window."

Danny mock-salutes with a shit eating grin. "Yes, Officer grayson."

I'm thinking of a drunk JLA hanging out during off hours, and:

Shayera, mildly buzzed off a stash of neurotoxins and two kegs: "So you guys might be the wrong people to ask, but are Gothamites really as crazy as the stereotypes?"

Black Canary and Batman: [exchanging looks]

Oliver: "Crazier."

Clark: [smirking]

Canary: "I was raised in a dojo, got an offer to train with an assassin, and routinely got into fights with gangsters, before having a pretty decent music career."

Bruce: "One of my sons started a criminal empire. Another started a gang. Technically three of my children are trained assassins. Many of them have faked their deaths, or come back from death, and--"

Shayera: "And you dress up as a giant bat, I think I've heard all I need to."

Hal, completely drunk and holding up extra fingers with his ring: "Man, how many kids do you have?"

My hot take is that while everyone talks about Batman being the ordinary human on the justice league with the way he's been written lately that descriptor only feels true with Green Arrow.

Sometimes I hate my brain cause it likes to tell me I'm not as funny as I think I am. Then I write gems like this and I am reminded that, at the very least, I think I'm funny.

The Red Hood growled, feeling around his headspace for the Pit Rage he knew lurked. Now would honestly be a great time for a tiny bit of an adrenaline boost, thank you very much. Jason got the feeling this criminal wouldn’t say such things if he didn’t mean it. “You wish, Cat Boy.”

“I am not a cat boy!” The boy wearing a cat skull protested.

“Then what are you, a discount Catwoman?” Jason asked as he prowled closer to the pouting thief.

“I don’t even know who that is!” Cat Boy continued to lie. “This,” he gestured to the bone-colored mask covering his face, Lazarus green eyes narrowing in distaste, “Is a fashion statement. Nothing more, nothing less, I just- I don’t even know why it’s a cat!”

Sanctuary, One of the Best Green Arrow stories ever

Sanctuary(Detective Comics #551-552)

Just coming of a disappointment that Billie Jean wouldn't show up again, a banger story came. And it just gets better as you go on.

So Dinah and Ollie were hanging out in a diner. Then:

Ollie doesn't give a shit, punches the fucking cop.

I'll mention something here, that will turn out to be irrelevant later on. Ollie only stood up to protect the legal immigrant here. Just because it's something that would get slightly in people's heads, the idea of the hero limiting themselves to the law, but this is Green Arrow, wait for it.

The illegal ones were arrested. The kid that Ollie protected, Guillermo, tells him how although he's legal, his brother is illegal.

Ollie then goes out to visit Guillermo's brother, Francisco who's hiding in a church with other illegal immigrants, to help him somehow.

The INS barges in the church and arrests everyone, the immigrants, Ollie and the priest. All of them are taken to the detention center.

The warden(I guess) says a bunch of nonsense and Ollie shows his disdain for the law.

Dinah shows up in the detention center as Ollie's lawyer. (Is this just a cover or does she really have a degree?)

She brings some stuff so Ollie can break out of the prison.

He breaks out with Francisco and his family.

Love Ollie calling it underground railroad

And then...

Yeah, Let's fucking free everyone.

Continuing talking about the underground railroad.

And he does all that very charmingly and chaotic. A silly goose.

So, let's review what he did, he punched the INS cop standing up for an immigrant and standing up against racism.

Broke out every immigrant held in an INS prison. He also just left free and didn't get any formal release. He just broke out.

And if you haven't grasped, this isn't even a "these INS are corrupt INS guys". They are just the INS. There's no corruption or anything. This is one of Ollie's biggest middle fingers to the law.
