the black bee-eater is a member of the bee-eater family found in tropical rainforests & secondary forests in africa. they are mainly black, with a scarlet throat and bright blue markings on their crown and the underside of their body. as their name implies, they are insectivorous and prefer bees & wasps. they feed on these insects without injury by repeatedly banging & rubbing the insect on a hard surface, which discharges the majority of their venom and/or removes the stinger.

What are kingfishers? What category do they belong to? Are they songbirds? Waterfowl? A secret third thing? I must know!
Kingfishers:
Kingfishers are in the order Coraciiformes, along with rollers, bee eaters, todies, and motmots. They are not closely related to songbirds or waterfowl. Think of this group as its own thing.
Many of them perch, and they eat a wide variety of small animals. Even just the kingfishers, many of which live in forests, and hunt frogs and lizards and large invertebrates. The all have a similar toe arrangement, and most of them catch prey and then slam their prey against a surface to help kill it.
The closest relatives to the coraciiformes are the order Piciformes, the woodpeckers, toucans, barbets, puffbirds, jacamars, and honeyguides.
So, generally speaking when we refer to "songbirds" we are talking about the birds in the order Passeriformes (more particularly the Oscine Passerines), most of the perching birds you've ever heard of. Water fowl usually refers to mainly aquatic swimming birds, like ducks, geese, loons, grebes.
Here are some kingfisher friends for you:

Been thinking about a COD!bird hybrid Au. But their all like really fancy birds- I'll definitely be turning this into a fanfic
I'll split this into two posts!
Soap is a new guinea cock of the rock. Mostly for the natural Mohawk. He's trans in this au so he has the bright blue eyes and naturally brown mowhawk and wings. He dyes everything he can orange.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ghost is a snowy owl because ofc he is, but he doesn't have any of those black stripes on him they usually have. And if he dose have them their barely noticable. Both of them are large and strong hunters and usually work alone unless with a mate (soap) and both seem to have a terminal case of RBF.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Price is a European bee eater. Their very Social little guys and are extremely fast. The colors aren't exactly tactical but I image he uses temp feather dye to darken his wings and feathers before going on an Op. European bee eaters are also extremely focused hunters, similar to Price.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gaz is a Costas hummingbird because I think their adorable. But similar to the bee eater price is based off of their extremely fast and nimble, the pop of purple feathers mixed into military green and white wings is also something I'm obsessed with. Plus with his wings moving as fast as hummingbird wings do he shouldn't fall out of any (more) helicopters anytime soon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Roach would be a puffin. Their both weird little guys who like to get into strange shaped places. Ie: a hole in the wall. He'd probably pick away at some drywall and make a nest next to a gas line.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I was so upset to learn his antenna aren't cannon) 😔

We tag them as "f/o (character here)!" It sometimes depends if the user who submitted the ask included a last name/full name/etc, as we may not know which characters the user is talking about 0_o (hence why we don't put fandoms)
Feel free to tag us in your selfship art of you want me to reblog it! We know a lot of people don't get much attention on their art posts, so we'd like to help out with that :)
Do not use the word "simp" here, as the word is appropriated AAVE. Do not use slurs either, I think that should be common sense.

Today as abundant and diverse as they were back on their home planet, the ants were among one of the most successful terrestrial invertebrates that had been introduced to HP-02017. Descended from a select few species, introduced as detritivores, pollinators and seed dispersers, these remarkable hymenopterans have since spread across the globe and occupied the niches similar to Earthly ants, such as seed-eaters, leaf-cutters, scavengers, predators, fungus farmers and even honeydew-ranchers: though the livestock of those ranchers are somewhat different, with the niches of sap-sucking true bugs instead filled by beetles and lepidopterans.
Some species, however, have begun taking on niches unlike any of their Terran forebearers. Raftants, aquatic species native to floodplains, developed specialized castes to act as oars and floaters to propel the colony along the surface. Perhaps stranger, at least for ants, are the lonestingers: ants that no longer live in colonies and have become solitary, with all individuals being winged and wasplike, no longer producing wingless sterile workers and taking on a niche akin to solitary wasps and bees.
One of the most unusual species in the Middle Temperocene, however, are the lime ants (Citromyrmex polyregina), an abundant and widespread species found all across South Ecatoria and the neighboring islands. Easily recognizable by their distinct yellow and black coloring, these ants are generalist omnivores diet-wise: consuming both plant and animal matter, though prioritizing carbohydrate-rich sugary food like fruit, sap and nectar for the active adults, while saving protein-rich seeds, bugs and meat to the larvae to encourage their growth. Like most ants, they communicate by pheromones, travelling across the forest floor in single file to scout out food sources they can carry back to the colony. They, too, have specialized castes for their vital activities, such as small minor workers that participate in foraging and nest cleanup, major workers that act as heavy lifters and back-up defense, and soldiers, armed with large heads and powerful mandibles who defend the nest, cut up large pieces of food, and even ferry around the smallest workers hitchhiking on their bodies.
But one truly remarkable characteristic of the lime ant is its behavioral flexibility, thanks to an unusual recessive gene, the Q gene, that causes the species to produce three separate types of queens, depending on which alleles they acquire. Each one lives a completely different lifestyle: one that affects the behavior of their corresponding colonies as well. These genes mix together during nuptial flights, where alates from different colonies pair together queens and drones that in turn, produce offspring that are homozygous QQ, heterozygous Qq, or homozygous qq. This is further complicated by male ants being haploid, and thus males are always only Q or q.
Homozygous QQ queens develop into what is known as the despot morph: a sedentary, highly-aggressive queen with a bulky body and large mandibles. Her colony dwells in a fixed, permanent nest that occupies the same space for as long as she lives, which can be as long as fifteen years. During which time, their nests can grow into immense proportions, spanning tunnels and chambers many meters across and inhabiting up to 100,000 inhabitants. Despot morph queens tolerate no other reproducing female in the colony, and a single despot morph queen rules supreme: aggressively killing any other breeding female in her nest, be they rival invaders, her own alate daughters, or a worker that starts laying unfertilized eggs. All of her genetically fatherless drone offspring will be Q drones. If she mates with a Q drone, all her female offspring will be despot morphs as well, and if she mates with a q drone, half her offspring will be despot morphs, and half her offspring will be Qq heterozygous: the communal morphs.
Communal morphs, the second kind, are long-bodied and capable of traveling long distances on foot, unlike the sedentary despot morph. These queens, the most common kind, are different from despot morphs in another way: they tolerate the presence of other communal morph queens, thus producing a polygyne colony that is much larger than those of despot morphs, with as many as nine or ten queens and colonies growing to up to a million or more. Their large colony size instead favors them to constantly be on the move, foraging for food in an area and building smaller temporary nests and moving on once food becomes depleted in migrations every few months, with the queens marching along in the swarms and the brood carried by the workers as they go. With multiple queens that can be regularly replaced as they die, the colony as a whole can survive significantly longer than those of a despot morph, which is important as their nomadic lifestyle also leaves them with a higher mortality rate due to exposure to environmental factors and predators. Being heterozygous Qq, they can produce either Q drones or q drones, and a communal morph queen that mates with a Q drone will produce half despot morph offspring and half communal morph offspring, and a communal morph queen that mates with a q drone will produce half communal morph offspring and half qq homozygous offspring: the usurper morph.
Usurper morphs are unusual as they do not build colonies at all: they never shed their wings and remain solitary, similar to the lonestingers. As they disperse from their parent colony during the nuptial flight, they mate once with a drone and store his sperm, but do not start laying eggs right away. Instead, over the course of their long lifespan which may last many years (but rarely as long as the despot and communal morphs), the usurper queen instead infiltrates the nests of the other two kinds shortly before the nuptial flights begin, lays her eggs inside, and leaves all the effort of childcare to the workers of the colonies. Covering the eggs with pheromones to trick the colony into accepting them, she functions in essence as a solitary brood parasite whose progeny are raised by others. As she does not form a colony: none of her offspring become workers and soldiers, and instead always hatch into queens or drones: drone offspring are always q as they are born from unfertilized eggs. If she mates with a Q drone, half of her daughters will be communal morphs and half will be usurpers, and if she mates with a q drone, all her daughters will be usurper morphs.
This unusual arrangement likely evolved as an advantageous trait due to fickle, changing seasons and environments, allowing the species as a whole to persist. When food is plenty despot morphs become more common, able to defend a productive patch of land. When food is scarcer, communal morphs dominate, able to travel long distances to scout out new foraging grounds. And when times are the toughest, the most common morph becomes usurpers: being solitary, they need less food than a whole colony and can depend on the few hardy colonies to rear their young. Through a complex set of environmental dynamics, genetic inheritance, and competition between the queen types, the lime ant proves itself an adaptable and tenacious species that finds great success in the forest floor ecosystems of South Ecatoria.
Despite its complicated and bizarre life history, however, the local northhounds that occupy its range, in particular the vulpins, have found a rather mundane use for this abundant species. When threatened, major workers spray formic acid from specialized nozzles in their abdomens as a ranged mechanism. This, however, has been exploited by the vulpins who intentionally provoke the ants to get them to spray their acid onto food items: in effect acting as both a preservative to ward off fungal and bacterial growth on food, and as well as a seasoning that imparts a sour, citrus-like flavor onto said food. While toxic in large quantitities, the ants' formic acid is harmless in small amounts to larger creatures like the northhounds: making for a surprisingly ideal additive in the vulpins' cultural fondness of imparting different tastes in their primitive form of 'cuisine'.

What native Gallifreyan species are there?
Gallifrey has a diverse range of fauna, both native and introduced. Despite claims of minimal ecological impact, the installation of the Eye of Harmony and millions of years of Time Lord civilisation have significantly altered Gallifrey's original biosphere.
🦋 Invertebrates
Beatitude Flies: Begin as maggots and pupate into golden-winged nocturnal insects. They use nectar to create helium in their bellies and are attracted to light and decay.
Butterflies: Various species flutter across Gallifrey.
Bees: Essential for pollination.
Gullet Grubs: Likely to live in digestive tracts of larger mammals, or similar environments.
Blossom Thieves: Possibly insects that steal nectar or pollen.
Scrubblers: Likely small, cleaning insects.
Neversuch Beetles, Sandbeetles, Waspbeetles: Various beetles.
Dustworms: Likely live in dry, dusty environments.
Scissors Bugs: Possibly predatory insects with sharp mandibles.
Flutterwings: Gigantic insects (3 meters by 25 meters) that never land. Five races include Wild Endeavor, Mandrigal, Silver-Band, Blue Crystal, and Perdition.
Snails
Water-Sligs: Likely aquatic or semi-aquatic molluscs.
Web-Spinning Insects: Including spiders about an inch long.
Other dangerous invertebrates: There are also nasty creatures that live beneath big stones.
🐟 Marine Life
Singing Yaddlefish: Notable for their song, and they can be eaten.
Kittensharks: Hatch from eggs and presumably grow into Catsharks.
Axolotl Salamanders: Amphibious creatures with regenerative abilities.
🐍 Elapids
Taipan: A venomous snake, 10 metres long.
Venal Snakes: Possibly nest-stealers or highly venomous.
Bat-Snakes: Presumably flying snakes.
Dinosauria: 20-meter-long reptiles resembling brontosaurs with thick chitinous scales and serrated teeth.
🦅 Avians
Owls: Symbol of Rassilon.
Flurry Birds: Likely small, fast-moving birds.
Trunkikes: Game birds whose eggs are often eaten.
Air Diamonds: Fly in the upper atmosphere, possibly crystalline or bioluminescent.
Song Birds: Various species.
Gargantosaurs: Dinosaur-like creatures, twice the size of a hab-bloc, with two legs, vestigial wings (with purple and white feathers), and four eyes.
🦣 Mammals
Plungbolls: Thumbnail-sized furry creatures living in mountains, attach en masse to warm objects.
Taffelshrews: Edible rodent-like mammals.
Fledershrews: Bat-like, mushroom eaters, nearly extinct.
Cobblemice: Mice that sprout wings.
Rovie Mice: Field-dwelling, long-lived if kept safe, sometimes pets. They have short memories.
Moss-Rats: Possibly rodents that live in marshes with moss-like camouflage.
Vex: Burrowing animals.
Gallifreyan Womprats: 1-metre-long rats with fifteen legs.
Pig-Rats: Inhabit the Drylands, presumably combining porcine and rodent traits.
Rabbits
Flubbles: Small six-legged koalas.
Unnamed rounder rabbit-like creatures
Ounce-Apes: Might be tiny monkeys that are particularly agile.
Sealak: Perhaps a kind of seal, often eaten.
Bear-Ass: A donkey-like animal with bear-like qualities.
Horse-Cats: Probably a horse/cat hybrid-like species.
Sagittary: Horse-like creatures.
Elephants
Pig-Bears: Can be trained as pets.
Wolf-like Creatures: With long snouts and black-and-white striped fur, almost as big as adult humanoids.
Broakir: Live in foothills, often hunted for food.
Baanjxx: Arboreal browsers that like to eat hallucinogenic cerub nuts. As a child, the Doctor was kicked by one in the head, apparently.
Cows
Walrus
Gallifreyan Marlot: Purple and unique in all of time and space. Probably a bit cat-like.
House Cats: Revered as symbols of intelligence. Traditionally, Presidents kept them as pets.
🐱 Killer Cats (C.A.T.S)
Killer C.A.T.S: These sapient creatures possess instinctive precognitive powers and cat-like physiology. Known for their lethal gladiatorial contests, they despise Time Lord traditions and live in the Gin-Seng Sector of Southern Gallifrey. Their culture includes mercenaries and oracles; they are telepathic.
🏞️ Ecosystem Preservation
Though Gallifrey's outer ecology has suffered, the Time Lords have used technology to preserve many species. Extinct species have been collected, ensuring none become completely extinct. The more fearsome creatures are contained in the Death Zone, while xeno-zoos hold alien species from other worlds.
🏫 So ...
So there's your whistlestop tour of the species on Gallifrey. One day, I'll try to put these onto a species distribution map. Oh, by Rassilon's Beard, I just gave myself more work.

found you from the anti Harry Potter tag, stayed for the correct transfem Percy Jackson hcs. Anyway do you think tgirl Percy would change her name and if so what would she change it to. Personally I can see her naming herself after her mom. Also do you have any specific ships for her?
THAT'S THE WAY TO GO!!!!HATE HP,LOVE GIRLPERCY
The classic name for fem Percy in fics/fanart is Persephone so i employed that into tfem Percy!!Og Persephone gave her Metamorphose, food that's been blessed by Aphrodite to give the eater their ideal apperance and works as essential hrt when it comes to trans people, because her best friendship with Nico started in their reconnection year between Botl and Tlo made og Persephone figure out she's trans so she wanted to help her since it's canon in the books she likes her better than other demigods
I ship her with every guy that's not Luke or a god or titan /lh.But for specifics,t4t golden retriver team mom and dad Jercy, tall hot cool lady x goofy ass short king Perleo, pastel woc YA lead x brooding led a stray boy she saves with her love Percethan, black flavored symbolism heavy black love Cartercy and Fierrochaseson with established Fierrochase inviting her to be poly with them after a few adventures🫶🏽She's a bi queen so i ship her with Drew too as cotton candy aesthetic queen bee x outcast girl trans gfs,Perachel as t4t queerplatonic black earthy gal pals,Pipercy as a joke ship of Piper being disburted at liking a femme for once in her life when she's butch4butch and Percy doing gaga eyes at her swag and the obligatory not really toxic 'they hate eachother in canon for petty reasons' yuri Perisse(Percy x Clarisse)
Also not romantic but like a friend of mine said, friendships are ships too so lemme say her and Nico and Hazel are platonic soulmates who undoomed eachother from the narrative, canonically, like actually

Hi! Would you be willing to write some rosekiller angst? Some hurt/comfort goes a long way :-)
tags: angst, torture, death eater rosekiller wordcount: 623
Evan wasn't even crying anymore. His body was almost numb from all the pain he'd been put through over the last hour. His throat was sore from all the screaming. And all that because he hadn't killed a child.
Eventually, they just left him lying on the cold floor, unable to move.
Barty made sure everyone was gone, before he snuck through the black doors, cowering next to Evan.
"Rosie? Baby?" He gently lifted him up into his lap, stroking his hair. The boy looked pale, exhausted. Barty hated them for hurting him. His lovely, brilliant, weird, beautiful Evan. Evan, who knew how to heal, unlike Barty. The bigger problem was, that Barty didn't even know what spell he would use in this situation. It wasn't like there was anything exactly wrong with him. Evan hadn't broken a bone or dislocated a shoulder, he'd just experienced a lot of pain.
He needed to get him help. Regulus would know what to do. He always knew what to do, he was always in control. Barty placed a soft kiss on his boyfriend's forehead, before carrying him through the manor. It was the kind of house that was so dark it seemed to swallow all the light and with it the joy. Just like his old home.
Halfway up the stairs, Evan began shaking in his arms. "It's fine. You'll be fine. We'll get you help", he whispered, holding him closer.
They both shared a room with Regulus, which had made things around here slightly more bearable. "Put him on his bed", the youngest Black instructed as he saw them walking in, placing his book aside and gabbing his wand.
"They took turns on him for an hour. I don't know what to do", Barty explained, voice not as steady as he would have liked. "I know, I heard him...." He swallowed, before sitting next to Evan on the bed.
For the next 20 minutes, Barty paced through the room, trying to help Regulus as much as he could. Then he waited.
Evan had stopped shaking and wasn't as pale as before, but it took him a while before he woke up again.
"Rosie... Are you okay? How do you feel?", he asked, softly taking his hand. "Feel like shit." His voice was rasp and barely audible, but he was back. Half-open eyes, a weak grasp, but he was back. And he was alive.
Barty gave him a glass of water, which Evan emptied in one go. With a quiet sigh, Barty lay down next to him, face buried in the crook of his neck.
"I was scared", he admitted after a while. "I thought I would lose you." "I was scared too", Evan whispered. "But I really didn't want to kill this kid. And it's pretty fucked up that they make us." "It is. But it's not worth you being tortured like this." "Yeah... Maybe." Evan sighed, pulling Barty closer to him.
He liked being alive. He liked a lot of things about it. Being with Barty, feeling the sun on his face, good food, all kinds of bugs and spiders, flower fields, his sister, spending time with his friends... But life like this... Spending most of his time in this dark, cold house, going out mostly at night, and when they went out it was to kill people. Time with his friends and with Barty had also become very thin because most of them were always busy and Pandora refused to talk to him.
"Bee?" "Hm?" He sounded like he was half asleep. "If I wanted to leave... would you come with me?" Barty looked up at him, but before he could answer, there was a loud banging at the door.
"Crouch. We need you for a mission. Now."

dear friends.
due to the recent surge of death eater activity, my parents are concerned for my safety, so i have to stay at home for a while until things have died down.
i wish i didn't have to go, but i'm leaving on friday.
i love you guys, i'll miss you, i'll try to talk to you whenever i can but i think i'll be cooped up reading a lot too (as well as being concerned for my safety, my parents are also concerned about my grades). goodbye, until who knows when.

So at this point it's basically inevitable that I'll write a Daemon AU for the Veilguard companions, and I thought I'd share some of my early thoughts...
(It’s been a while since I wrote my last DA Daemons pieces, but I’ll use the same rules as in those: mages’ daemons are birds, like the witches in HDM, and dwarves generally do not have daemons. So with that in mind):
Emmrich is 100% getting a vulture. Obviously there’s the association with death/disposal of bodies thing, but also... vultures are nature’s doctors. Their stomach acid kills most diseases! If vultures in an area die, you run a serious risk of diseases spreading after animals eat infected bodies. So not only does that fit with Emmrich’s role – tending to the dead in order to safeguard the living and prevent corruption from spreading – it also reflects his nature as a healer and caretaker. Also, vultures are (in my experience) so damn sweet and charming in temperament. They’re curious! They’re perceptive! (I’m not sure what species of vulture to give Emmrich yet – maybe a cinereous vulture bc I love them)
Neve strikes me as someone who’d have a heron or egret daemon: patient, perceptive, the kind to wait and watch before acting, and then striking fast and hard. Sleek, poised, and elegant, but also sharp. Again, I need to decide on a species; perhaps a snowy egret to match her ice aesthetic, or a great blue heron because they are very cool.
I’d love to give Bellara a hummingbird, but much as they match her in energy, I’m not sure they quite work as a personality match for her. Hummingbirds are pretty asocial and territorial, and I think she really needs a bird with tool-using or building behaviours to match her tinkering. I’m leaning toward a bee-eater at present; they’re just as bright and colourful as hummingbirds, they’re clever builders, and they’re social and playful.
Lucanis has big black cat energy, but I wonder if a cat isn’t a good match for someone whose main coping mechanism is Overworking tm.  Might need to progress further with his arc before I can pin him down.
Taash obviously will need something big, blunt and tough as hell. I’m very strongly considering giving them a Komodo dragon, because, well, obviously.
I haven’t the foggiest about Davrin, honestly. Like Taash, he’ll need something tough and independent, but nothing jumps out at me yet. Will continue to think as I play his arc!
Any suggestions very welcome!
