COME ONE, COME ALL to the MOSTE ILLUSTRIOUS TOURNAMENT of the FINEST, the MOSTE PUISSANT and HOTTEST MEN MEDIEVAL MEDIA HAS TO ITS CREDIT.
Be it known that we shall accept submissions of the hottest men OF THE PEOPLES’ CHOOSING from any live-action* TV or movie media property set between the years AD 500 – 1550 (Tudors WELCOME!!), and any fantasy properties which emulate said period!
KNOW ALSO that we, by the grace of this fine hellsite and with the counsel of the moste honorable and illustrious @hotvintagepoll (many thanks), have made
THESE GUIDELINES here given:
ANY HOT GUY who appears in any movie or TV show released in ANY YEAR, from ANY COUNTRY, shall be deemed eligible for entry. Below are listed examples of eligible properties. If YE BE NOT CERTAIN whether your hot guy is eligible, submit him anyway!
Examples of Eligible Properties: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-03), Game of Thrones (2011-19) House of the Dragon (2022), Wolf Hall (2015-2024), The Tudors (2007-2010), Ladyhawke (1985), The Princess Bride (1987), The White Queen (2013), Rise of Empires: Ottoman (2020-2022), Vikings (2013-2020), The Last Kingdom (2015-2022), Diriliş: Ertuğrul (2014), A Knight’s Tale (2001), BBC’s Robin Hood (2006-3009), The Last Duel (2021), The Story of Minglan (2018), The Borgias (2013), Robin Hood (1939), Outlaw King (2018), Pilgrimage (2017), Legend (1985), Braveheart (1995), The Green Knight (2021), Excalibur (1981), Beowulf & Grendel (2005), The Lion in Winter (1968), Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993), The Black Adder (Blackadder Series 1, 1982), Rashomon (1950)
Remember: This is just a list of examples—WOW ME!
These following titles are examples of properties that do not fall within or emulate the stated time period and therefore DO NOT QUALIFY: The Three Musketeers (Any Version), Pirates of the Caribbean (2004), Barbarians (2020), Gladiator (2000), Ben Hur (1959), Shogun (2024), Elizabeth (1999), 300 (2006), Troy (2004), Xena: Warrior Princess (1995-2001), Disney's Robin Hood (1973)**, Yojimbo (1961), Shakespeare in Love (1998), King Arthur (2004)***
For the purposes of this tournament, "Man" and "Guy" are defined as any bi-pedal humanoid male character played by a man. As such, characters belonging to non-human races such as Hobbits, Orcs, Elves, Demons, Fauns, Werewolves etc. ARE admissible, and, indeed, encouraged.
If you have propaganda you forgot to include in your submission, just hold onto it and send it in an ask after the Tournament begins.
You may submit as many hot men as you like but please submit only ONE ENTRANT per submission.
Do not hesitate to submit ANY hot guy you think may qualify, no matter how popular he is. There is no such thing as a shoo-in with these tournaments. If you think "Someone MUST have submitted him already!" Everyone else is probably thinking that too and then he may well NEVER get submitted and we don't want that.
Do not worry about how many submissions your hot guy might have had already--I need to get a sense of who the strongest contenders are in order to fairly seed the draws, and the best way to do that is volume of submissions.
We are voting on the hotness of the characters. While the actors who portray them are of course a major factor in this, we are not voting on the actors themselves, therefore propaganda pertaining to the actors real lives (aside from anecdotes relating to their portrayal of the character) is not admissible.
By that same token, in the case of historical figures (e.g. Henry VIII) we are judging hotness based on the fictionalized portrayals of them in these properties, not on historical fact.
Regarding immortal/time-travelling/dimension-hopping/extremely long-lived characters, regardless of when the character was born, the main action**** of the story must take place within the Medieval Period (see dates listed at the top of this post) or Medieval-esque fantasy fantasy realm in order for them to be eligible for submission. As such, characters like the Pevensie brothers (The Chronicles of Narnia) and Ash Williams (Army of Darkness) are admissible, but Asgardians (the MCU Thor films) are not.
I, as the Administrator and Master of Revels of this tournament, am exercising discretion in the admittance of characters from works by Shakespeare, since many of them have no set date.
Re: characters adapted from books/written works - Book quotes by/ about your character are not admissible as Propaganda for their tv/ movie counterparts unless said quotes were also written into the show/movie.
Book illustrations and fanart are not admissible Propaganda
SUBMISSIONS SHALL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL MIDNIGHT, JULY 1st
The Tourney shall begin at a date yet to be determined with the Melee (Qualifying Rounds), wherein the entrants with the fewest submissions and least propaganda will duke it out in a free for all brawl to determine who will enter the Lists.
SUBMIT YOUR ENTRANTS HERE TODAY!!!
-- Master of Revels
Tumblr media
*The "live-action" qualification does have a caveat: exception may be made for those CGI films which were all the rage in the mid-00's that used the motion-capture and likeness of the actors; for example characters from, Robert Zemeckis's Beowulf (2007) are admissible.
** this one doesn't qualify, not because it isn't the right time period, but because it falls solidly under the "Animated" category.
***Yes, sadly we are deprived of the beautiful countenances of Clive Owen, Mads Mikkelsen, Ioan Gruffudd et al because the producers of this film in their infinite wisdom and in an attempt to seem "more historically accurate" chose to set it during the Roman withdrawal from Britain, which occurred in the 5th Century (About a CENTURY earlier than Authurian tradition) and is generally agreed to have ended by AD 410. It therefore does not fall under the Medieval umbrella and is not eligible for submission.
**** "Main Action" here defined as "More than half an hour of a movie and more than two episodes of a series"

A pet snake
Tumblr media
Dad!Tom Riddle x Mom!black reader
A/n: this is a modern au
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Thomas Marvolo Riddle!” I yell from upstairs in our daughter’s playroom. I look at our three year old daughter Claudia as she’s playing with a snake. “Imma kill him” I say to myself while watching the snake closely.
“Yes, doll?” I hear his voice from behind me. Without turning around to look at him I ask, “Would you like to explain why our three year old has an Adder snake wrapped around her” I then hear his footsteps, then see him next to me in the corner of my eye. “She wanted a pet snake and I couldn’t say no” I look up at him and then back at her “Tom that's a wild snake, not a snake you get from the pet store, she can’t even speak parseltongue yet”
“Snek fraeslis” me and Tom look in Claudia’s direction in shock. “Tom say something in parseltongue to see if she understands you” I tell him “Claudia ʃe” she looks at him before getting up and walking to us with the snake in her hands. “kaʃe fasi snek” she looks at me before putting the snake down and patting its head. “Come here sweetling” I say while squatting down.
Once I picked her up I put her on my hip before asking her “ how’d you get that snake?”, “walking with papa” she says while looking at Tom.
“Tom, why did you allow her to get the snake?”
“She wanted a pet snake” he said will shrugging
“Claudia sweetling you can have a pet snake just not this one, ok?”
“vuʃ”
“la serpiente es venenosa” Tom said
“We’ll get you a new pet snake that’s not venomous, ok?”
“Sí mami”
“Good now, Tom you’re taking that snake outside and when you’re done we can take Claudie to the pet store and get her a new one” I say turning to Tom and kissing his cheek before walking out of Claudia’s playroom.
“This is gonna be a long day” I think to myself
Translations:
Parseltongue:
Snek fraeslis-snake friend
ʃe-No
kaʃe fasi snek-drop that snake
vuʃ-why
Spanish:
la serpiente es venenosa-The snake is poisonous
Sí mami- yes, Mommy

au chises that have been bumping around in my brain like my own personal multiverse of madness. they needed to be exorcised. i recognize and respect the adage that your au may as well be an oc at a certain point, and i think these two cross the threshold, but consider this: i like to play with chise like a paper doll and see how she reacts to situations. so there
for their faces i sorta referenced off of haruka kudo, who played chise in the stage play
attack dog chise is the "living weapon" trope. i imagine that the witch bought her just as elias did, but chise is under the impression that she was taken in out of the goodness of her heart. her master has taught her very little in the means of practical magic, instead focusing all of her training into inflicting as much damage as possible. the witch has no expectation that chise will live very long, so has no intention of raising her up to be an equal. so, this chise has only been taught the power of incredible violence. if she isnt using her fists, shes using low-level curses and other magic considered to be kind of a dick move
design wise, all the o-rings are meant to evoke arc 1 chises adder necklace. she was probably inspired by the knife-wielding punk chise with attitude from the merkmal. since this chise has no ruth, you could say that she sort of embodies both of them
i imagine the dynamic between her and her master as sort of a ~*twisted and dark*~ version of kimihiro and yuko from xxxholic... which ive never read, but still. i dont have a design in mind for the witch shes beholden to, but she isnt dissimilar to hiroe ando from the she who travels au. maybe she IS hiroe. hm
soothsayer's daughter chise is the golden child of her family and has lived a life of relative comfort since being taken from her mother. still, her bleeding heart causes her guilt when she thinks back on the mother she can barely remember. in the last couple years, this chise has tracked her down and set up the means to meet in secret with the intention of apologizing to her and gaining closure. her family does not take kindly to this, and when chise meets chika in the tiny, filthy apartment shes living in, magic is used to force chises mother to commit suicide in front of her. chise is left shaken to the core by this event, especially by chikas words that she "should have never come back." she attempts to maintain a brave and serene exterior, believing that no one else knows of chikas death
since yuuki is still considered a traitor to the family, this chise has a polite if distant relationship with him, having been mainly raised by uncles and aunts. fumiki is supremely annoyed by her. shes very protective and patronizing
her silhouette is based off of a shrine maidens, but i didnt want to dress her exactly like one, since thats... kind of on the nose, isnt it? regardless, the focus of her magic is in purification and exorcism - her soothsaying skills are not quite so refined
she who travels chise is she who travels chise, she comes with her own fic series, read it or dont. i do have thoughts about her older offshoot, though. this chise is in her 30s. she picked up smoking from master onishi - HE TRIED NOT TO INFLUENCE HER, REALLY - and took over the theater when he died. even though she owns it and its a good source of income, shes moved on and is trying to be a more respectable mage beyond the sideshow reputation of her early career. shes essentially cosplaying a put-together businesswoman, and is kind hearted but comically serious. she probably has a niece or nephew and is constantly giving them enchanted gifts. her elias received an untraceable check for five million pounds - adjusted for inflation - several years ago and has not been able to track her down. her anger has cooled, but its now been so long that she feels too awkward to contact him. she still maintains contact with angelica and simon, though - maybe one day shell show up in his yard in a shiny black car
i think it would be soooo fun to throw them all in a room together with canon chise and watch them fight. or maybe they would just cry it out? soothsayers daughter thinks shes above all of this and will condescendingly preach about how attack dog has a "wounded heart"... until attack dog roundhouse kicks her in the head

Thinkin of naga batfam, and as it's a prompt there's legitimately no canon for what they are, but here's my takes on which sneks each of them would be based off of, if they are in fact based off of snakes from earth. And not like, the realm of the dead or another planet or something lol.

Inge Sjasaris
Tumblr media
B A S I C S
Name: Inge Sjasaris (pre-EW), Inge Grymkoelwyn (post-EW)
Nicknames: none
Age: In her sixties
Nameday: 5th Sun of the 2nd Umbral Moon
Race: Viera
Gender: Loaded question given that I've never bothered posting about her tribe, but long story short: she's fine with being called a woman. In our modern western ways, she'd be more akin to genderqueer. In her people's way, it's hard to translate so she never bothers. Honestly any pronoun is technically fine by her, it'll never be completely right anyway.
Orientation: Whatever, but more female leaning overall.
Profession: Mercenary, alchemist
P H Y S I C A L     A S P E C  T S
Hair: I've yet to find a satisfying mod for what I have in mind but curly and mid-long, black, badly cut 'cause she tends to do it herself whenever the length annoys her too much. Rarely tied though, she doesn't like the feeling (hence the terrible haircuts)
Eyes: Grey
Skin: Dark brown, with some freckles
Tattoos/scars: A tattoo left by Louisoix's spell between her shoulder blades. Many scars scattered on her body, most faded though and none too remarkable.
F A M I L Y
Parents: Both alive, never named them x)
Siblings: Two unnamed sisters and one brother, which she doesn't know is a brother because she left before he hit puberty. He's called Solrunn and is played by @inah-ffxiv (who also plays her wife)
Grandparents: I didn't flesh out the family tree so far so.... no idea
In-laws and Other: She's married to Yersinia Bordetella (which isn't her real name if you wonder after reading Inge's family name above) Also in a relationship with Y'shtola.
Pets: None
S K I L L S
Abilities: The notable ones would be magic enhancing/debuffing (and healing but if you don't get hit, it's even better), war surgery, alchemy (mostly potions), botany and bow hunting. She can hear the Elementals too
Hobbies: Reading smut and romance. That's about it, she loves her job as an adventurer and doesn't take much time off.
T R A I T S
Most Positive Trait: Steadfast and kind
Most Negative Trait: emotionally constipated and prone to reproach people their recklessness before doing the exact same fucking thing five minutes later (But it's different because she knows what she's doing™)
L I K E S
Colors: she loves bright colors in general but mostly wears neutral/earthly colors herself (as to not make a target of herself). Doesn't have a clear favorite
Smells: damp soil, forests, quite a lot alchemical agents, tea, campfires
Textures: Leather, smooth polished wood, soft wool
Drinks: Tea, tea and more tea
O T H E R    D E T A I L S
Smokes: Recreationally. Did you know the Twelve will approve of your union even if you're too high to remember the entire day? Should you get lucky enough to meet them, they'll even mention it /shudders
Drinks: Tea and water. Occasionally maybe some fruit juice. Never any alcohol, it makes her sick
Drugs: Nothing other than what I mentioned above
Mount Issuance: Inge's actually in the Twin Adder and got her chocobo through them. The bird doesn't have an actual name, she whistles to call it/give it orders and mostly uses it as a beast of burden rather than a mount. Her yol is in the care of the Mols. She didn't want to take it away from its natural environment, but she visits sometimes.
Been Arrested: Never. To say that she's always a law-abiding citizen might be pushing it though...
Tagged by: @lilbittymonster (ty!) Tagging @inah-ffxiv @adrayellinaeth @archaiclumina @hakai-zonapher @feathersage @wpip-raham @the-crimson-rose @sharlayanscion @ooc-miqojak (so you can pick which character you want to do it with) @punchelf @chadhunkler @clockworkdimensions @gatheredfates @corsair-kovacs @heavensw4rd
I went through my followers list and I have more characters so feel free to ignore if you're not interested and I'll tag more people when I do it with the rest of the cast!

Villain Sneak Peek (Supernova Initiative) - Red Adder & Arachnys
Tumblr media Tumblr media
════════════════════════════════════════════
☆ ・・About/General Info ・・☆
The most dangerous and infamous power couple in both the Junction and Khosmonian Galaxies, Ciara (alias - Red Adder), and her husband, Evander (alias - Arachnys), are the bosses of the ruthless Saphir crime family - they own most of the sprawling criminal underworld with almost nothing from the shady side of the law that they don't somewhat control. Basically, they are the Queen and King of organized crime in both galactic systems. They're also the founders of the conglomerate that owns the illegal, shady clubs responsible for the disappearance of Tarah's best friend and are also the sponsors of Meridian Shardd's inventor. A lot of other lowlifes, mobsters and space pirates in the series answer to them and cause a lot of trouble to the main cast.
☆・・More Info ・・☆
Pronouns:
Arachnys/Evander Saphyr - He/Him
Red Adder/Ciara Saphyr - She/Her
Age:
Arachnys/Evander Saphyr - 42
Red Adder/Ciara Saphyr - 41
Current Role - Antagonists, two of the Main Villains
Appearance:
Red Adder - She is a lithe, yet voluptuous woman, with dark lilac eyes and striking, yet refined, makeup. Her skin is warm white, and she often favors a deep red, almost wine-colored, lipstick, along with pink sunglasses. Sometimes, she wears a black leather choker and leather gloves, especially to avoid leaving fingerprints on anything. Ciara wears dark clothes, often choosing stylish black-tie style clothing, especially dresses, with a white, silk jacket on top and killer heels. She is often regarded as the colder and more menacing looking out of the duo, and that is true. Her hair is a deep shade of red, with her fringe occasionally dyed pink.
Picrew
Tumblr media
Arachnys - He is a muscular, tall man with tan skin and piercing eyes with pitch-black sclera and ghost-white irises. His smile is impeccably dangerous and his canines look akin to vampiric fangs. He often wears white and gold long-sleeved shirts, slightly unbuttoned, under a dark grey overcoat or jacket, along with black pants and boots. His hair is a dark, striking shade of pink-ish red, with a white streak on the fringe. His brash, short-tempered personality also shines through in his style and appearance more than often.

Several Donated Games
I recently had the good fortune to meet Lily Vers at ProseAndCon, a semi-yearly interactive fiction convention in the backwoods of Maine. I mentioned that I write reviews, the next thing I know she hands me a pile of books and offers to buy me a drink if I promise to never give them back. I think she just wanted them out of the house because she's moving. They're not that bad. Well, most of them.
These are short games (well, most of them), so here are some short reviews!
Edge: Blades in the Kill (Hurtful Press, 2021) Long-time followers of the blog will remember HellBlaster and whether I wasn't really sure whether the game was in on its own joke. E:BitK is absolutely in on the joke. The game's aesthetic is part emo, part Hannibal fanfic, part Black Adder. You are a group of serial killer assassins murdering for fun and profit, then getting stiffed on the profit part by your clueless employers who seem not to realize what's going to happen after they stiff a bunch of murderers. Cool stuff: Manages to boil down systems stolen from Blades in the Dark and Kill Edge to their very essence, accomplishing 90% of what they do in 20% of the combined space.
D.E.S.P.O.N.D.E.N.C.Y., A Friendship-Ending Role-Playing Experience (Delta Elf, 2020) Have you ever played Diplomacy? This is Diplomacy in RPG form. One-player RPG form, thankfully. You write the stories of a group of (initially) friends playing a diceless RPG that slowly escalates into a series of alliances and betrayals that eventually leave the entire group and hostile. It reminds me of an Amber game I ran once where people got a little too into the intrigue and backstabbing. Cool stuff: The prompts really get you into the heads of all the characters you make. All your decisions on their part have to come from part of the short backstories you write for them.
Unexamined Fantasy Racism (anonymous, 2018) Hoo boy this one sets you up right from the title and doesn't let up. The book is a 64-page clone of OD&D that provides an absolutely scathing commentary on exactly what the tin says. Anyone who goes on to play a standard D&D (or related) game after playing or reading this one is going to feel real uncomfortable, and for good reasons. I don't think the game is going to get much play, but it's designed more for reading. (See "queerweird" below for another "you might never actually play it" game.) Cool stuff: Never becomes its own target. It's easy to write something like UFR and fall into the "actually doing what you're trying to satirize" trap. UFR instead sets up extremely standard FRPG situations and then slams you right into the exact problem with them.
Hackerface 1999: Don't Roll A Hacker (Crack the Hacker, 2000) I'm not sure who the audience for Hackerface is. It's a parody of Cyberpunk 2020 with references to 1990s floppy game hacking, so you would normally be able to perfectly zero in on the target audience. The game does not treat that audience with any sort of love, affection, or respect, so you come away either not getting a lot of what it's trying to say or feeling uncomfortable. And not a productive UFR-type uncomfortable, just the kind of uncomfortable you get from bullies. Even the hacking rules aren't worth stealing. The book reads like it was written by the kind of person who stuffs nerds into lockers, and how in the hell does that person end up writing RPGs? Cool stuff: The art is pretty great, especially for an indie game in the year 2000. It's done in an extremely stylized approach, with plenty of black ink, chiaroscuro, and anatomy that looks like it belongs on an actual human.
This turned into a longer post than I thought, so I'm going to split it in half. Tune in next time.

BG3 characters but it’s what Inscryption decks they would use (Spoilers for BG3)
Shadowheart uses a Magick deck Typically sticks to using only one color of Mox at a time in order to build resources- tends to favor Blue Mox. Used to have a Beast deck, but she doesn’t play with it much anymore. A Selune aligned Shadowheart does mix Beasts/Magick! She notably has a caged alpha card. A Shar aligned Shadowheart uses an Undead/Magick deck
Lae’zel uses a Beast deck Makes use of stacking Beast cards such as the Ants- has a firm belief that the best defense is a good offense. Late game Lae’zel also has Hydras and an Oroboros
Astarion uses an Undead deck He has several brittle cards that he’ll throw out while something like a Mummy Lord grows in the background, trying to keep his opponent busy while stronger cards grow on the side lines. Ascended Astarion has a Beast/Undead hybrid deck- mostly utilizes Goats, Cats, and Wolves from his Beast half- most of which have sigils to supply more blood or bones when sacrificed.
Wyll uses a Beast deck His deck is mostly Bird based to pass by his foe’s cards and attack them directly, though he does have a few Adders as well. A Devil-turned Wyll also utilizes Orange Mox cards alongside his Beasts.
Gale uses a Magick deck He’s very proud of his collection of rare Mox Master cards. He typically has a hybrid deck utilizing two of the three Mox colors, though he has been known to occasionally use all three at once through hybrid cards. Incredibly strategic in his use of sigils and resources- typically low on offense cards, but he’s chalked full of utility and can and will drag his opponents into card starvation
Karlach uses a Beast deck Notably has a few Undead cards from her time in the Hells, but not enough to call it a hybrid deck. She has several high cost hard hitting cards, like the Great White, Grizzly, and Moose, as well as several heavy defense cards (like the Tortoise & Mole Man). To try and balance out the high blood cost of her deck, she has several blood suppling cards- like the Squirrel Ball and a Black Goat.
Halsin uses a Beast/Magick deck He has a lot of high cost powerhouse cards like Grizzlies & a Urayuli, though he typically makes use of smaller cheaper creatures like Beavers and adolescent Wolves/Stags & Mantises. He also notably has a Squirrel Ball & tends to utilize Green Mox (but has been known to use the other two before)
Minthara uses a Tech/Undead deck Almost everything she has comes with a Spike Sigil. Makes good use of energy cards & stim builds, utilizing low cost Brittle cards to buy her time. She also has several dozen Bolt/Bone Hounds
Jaheira uses a Beast deck She makes use of movement based cards, particularly favoring Stags. Notably also has a collection of Mantis Gods
Minsc uses a Beast deck Boo chooses cards, Minsc plays them. Has a lot of defense based cards- like Beavers, Tortoises, and Mole Men- as well as a Grizzly that he says reminds him of Boo.
Orin uses an Undead/Beast deck All of her Beasts are for sacrificing/building up her Undead cards in a quick manner (almost always starts with her Beast cards before switching to Undead ones roughly halfway through the game) Very notably has a Ijiraq card as well as a few Amalgams.
Gortash uses a Tech deck He has a lot of trap cards to whittle down a careless opponent’s deck as well a notable amount of Sentry & Sniper cards. Also those terrible Explode Bots/Bomb Latchers. A lot of his cards are pretty delicate, but he’s not above leveling out the playing field by bombing all of it.
Ketheric uses an Undead/Beast deck Has several cards that give him resources upon death. He relies heavily on hard defenses and stacking attacks- has several Caged Alphas and a Long Elk. He has has a nasty habit of having a Spike Sigil on a lot of his cards, so getting past his defenses can be quite the task.
Bonus!
Durge uses a Beast deck Lots of Blood Cats and high blood cost cards in this deck. Notably also has a few Undead cards in the interest of not letting a resource their Beast’s make go to waste. (Has a few coyote cards that they lovingly refer to as their gnollies)

I finally took the time to finish (pardon the pun) reading the Kalevala Crawford translation! Here's the link to the online cache, for those interested.
Tumblr media
One of my favorite passages:
Lemminkainen, much dejected, Broken-hearted, flushed with anger, Spake these words in measured accents: “Mother dear, my gray-haired mother, Wilt thou straightway wash my linen In the blood of poison-serpents, In the black blood of the adder? I must hasten to the combat, To the camp-fires of the Northland, To the battle-fields of Lapland; To the village went Kyllikki, To the play of merry maidens, To the games and village dances, With the maids of braided tresses.”
Straightway speaks the wife, Kyllikki: “My beloved husband, Ahti, Do not go to war, I pray thee. In the evening I lay sleeping, Slumbering I saw in dream-land Fire upshooting from the chimney, Flames arising, mounting skyward, From the windows of this dwelling, From the summits of these rafters, Piercing through our upper chambers, Roaring like the fall of waters, Leaping from the floor and ceiling, Darting from the halls and doorways.”

William Hootkins in the 1980s (3 of 5)
On to 1986. William Hootkins was as busy as he wanted to be in the 1980s. I've skipped quite a few of his credits either because I don't have photos, his role was insignificant or photos I do have are just not interesting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In February of 1986 Hootkins appeared in Black Adder II wearing a dildo on his forehead, once again playing drunk.

In May of 1986, William Hootkins appeared in Clifford Odets' Rocket to the Moon from the 1930s. He played a Dentist renting space in a Dentist's office that rarely saw any patients because of location and competition. He was months behind on the rent and the Dentist Landlord's wife was pressuring her husband to throw him out. Anyway in one of his scenes he was lamenting about how he, as the man was expected to provide and coddle others and why is there nobody to coddle him. It made me wonder that if I were around in the 1930s and this man made that statement. Would I be ballsy enough to take him up on that?

Biggles was a comic strip in Great Britain and the idea to bring it to life finally happened in this movie, but it was far from what the comic strip was. Hootkins played the best friend of the main character who was not Biggles.

In March of 1987, Disney produced a TV movie called U.S. Marshals: Waco and Rhinehart for The Magical World of Disney TV series. It wasn't a great film and very formulaic for the time. It really seemed like a TV pilot straight from the opening theme and clips. The title characters were played by relatively unknown Justin Deas, from soap opera Ryan's Hope and completely unknown Charles C Hill who only has one other credit, from a Short film about the trials of auditioning. William Hootkins played their boss. Of course, he was the best part of the show for me and got more screentime than most "bosses" in crime dramas usually get. I wonder if he would've moved back to the US if this show became a series? I'm guessing no.

In that case could you possibly compile an introductory list to what you would consider good black metal for someone coming more from hardcore (i also listen to some metal but nothing really specific as a genre)? Thank you for your previous answer
sorry this took so long anon! i wanted to really give some specific recs, especially considering you sound less familiar with the metal basics. hopefully you find some good stuff worth exploring!
first and foremost, i would recommend first wave black metal pretty wholeheartedly for punk/hardcore fanatics. First wave essentially refers to the 80s black metal that existed pre-scandinavian genre definition (which means its also less sketch, typically, though there are shitheads). This stuff is pretty nebulous, its defined mostly by "extremity" and genre mixing (stuff that existed on the outskirts of other genres, with different balances of black/death/thrash). A lot of it is influenced by thrash and punk + it was way underground so shares a lot of qualities with diy/shit production + was primarily made by teens and people who could barely play their instruments. some essentials:
Venom - Welcome to Hell (defining black metal influence even if the sound of black metal is unrecognizable now. punk influence in spades, if you like discharge you'll love this)
Bathory - Under the Sign of the Black Mark (if venom is what really codified Satanism in bm, then bathory did the same for vikings. this is probably The Classic first wave rec)
Slayer - Show No Mercy (barely counts here, but they rip off venom enough and this is impactful enough that if you haven't gotten to it, this is required listening)
Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales
Sarcofago - INRI
Sodom - In the Sign of Evil (much more on the thrash side of first wave, Sodom was pushing enough boundaries that they've been incorporated into the first wave)
Bulldozer - The Day of Wrath (blackened thrash with a ton of venom/motorhead influence)
Mortuary Drape - All the Witches Dance
there's also a long tradition of black punk crossover. ultimately the genres have ideological similarities in terms of their philosophies surrounding music imo (not politically, obviously) and how it manifests as its own self-perpetuating diy culture. black/punk tends to also be less full of shitheads, which is nice
Devil Master - Satan Spits on the Children of Light
Melissa - Melissa
Truchlo Strzgi - Gwiezdny Demon
Gehennah - Hardrocker (tw for puke on the cover btw)
Wildspeaker - Spreading Adder (black and crust infusion here, rather than just punk)
Svalbard - When I Die, Will I Get Better? (technically my blackgaze rec, I think it's tempered significantly by the post-hardcore influence, it feels much more intense and varied)
in terms of true blue kvlt black metal, here's a nebulous collection of bands I'd suggest checking out since they're more along what i see hardcore heads gravitate towards and then you can dig deeper into their respective scenes/niches
Darkthrone (first couple classics have the greatest diy charm of the second wave imo. later work incorporates a lot of punk, they experiment with crust and trad and such)
Immortal (think the fact immortal seem very ridiculous and over the top makes them very endearing to people who otherwise dislike the self-serious nihilism of the second wave)
Rotting Christ
Panopticon
Gabestok
Hulder
Tietanblood
Havukruunu
as a final note, I'll just mention Opera IX, Spectral Wound, Yaotl Mictlan, Valdrin, Tresspasser, Dawn's Reflection, Thantifaxath, and Marthe for some bands i really like that are less accessible for hardcore listeners (mainly use symphonic elements like synths and keys or are atmospheric in an opposite direction to blackgaze)

Sometimes, it's easy to forget that Hugh Laurie who's famous for his role as Dr. Gregory House in the show, "House" has had other roles as well.
He's not a newbie actor.
Far from it.
In fact, he's been acting since 1981.
He was also a member of the cast of "Blackadder", a comedy series from the United Kingdom that aired for ten years in the 1980s, the first episode airing on June 15, 1983 and the last episode airing on November 2, 1989.
HL first appeared in the last two episodes of "Blackadder II", first in "Beer" as Simon Partridge, AKA "Farters Parters" and "Mr. Ostrich", a drunk aristocrat and then "Chains" as the evil German Prince Ludwig the Indestructible.
To date, he's also the only actor in the whole Blackadder series to have played two completely different characters in one series.
He later joined "Blackadder the Third" as a member of the main cast, playing Prince George the Regent and even appeared in "Blackadder Goes Forth" as Lieutenant George.
In fact, HL has been in every single series of Blackadder except for The Black Adder which is the first series of Blackadder and Blackadder: The Cavalier Years.

Fire and Ice - Chapter 58
< Chapter 57 || Index || Epilogue >
The days were beginning to grow colder as the leaves fell thickly to the forest floor. It wouldn’t be long until the first snows of leafbare blanketed the forest and the prey began hiding in their nests. The Clan was busy, sending out hunting patrols day and night to prepare for just such a time.
It was a rare moment that Fireheart got to rest, which made them all the more precious. It was on one such late leaffall morning that he was stretched out and relaxing by the warriors’ den, watching Clan life pass him by. Goldenflower and Frostfur’s kits were busy playing a rousing game of mossball; he watched as one, a golden-brown tabby tom, batted the roughly made sphere into his red and white patched sister, knocking her over with a shriek of laughter. The elders were watching nearby, commenting quietly to each other about the kits even as they pretended to ignore them.
“Fireheart.” The ginger tom startled as Tinyfrost’s voice reached him, and he looked over to see the little warrior approaching swiftly. “One of the hunting patrols scented a kittypet crossing our border. Quickflash wants us to go check it out.”
He flicked an ear uneasily. Was it a coincidence that the deputy was sending the two former kittypets so close to the Twolegplace? “Why me?” He asked cautiously as he sat up.
“Because you’re the only warrior left that’s not guarding camp.” His former mentor pointed out dryly with a flick of his black ear. He was right; most of the Clan was out on border patrol or hunting. Only Darkstripe and Quickflash remained. Even Bluestar was out right now, hunting with Peppermask and Sandstorm. “Come now, don’t tell me you’re scared of kittypets?” He teased, flicking the other warrior with his white-tipped tail.
“Of course not.” Privately, he worried in the back of his mind it might be someone he knew. But he’d visited his sister recently, and he knew she had no reason to enter the forest if she wasn’t worried for him. And if it was one of his former friends, well, most of them had likely forgotten him anyway; it had been two seasons, nearly three, since he’d entered the forest. “I just don’t really want to fight them…” He trailed off, hoping his mentor would understand his reluctance even as he stood and padded for the entrance tunnel.
“Unlikely.” Tinyfrost dismissed his concern with a wave of his tail. “Most of them get scared off at the mere thought of the wild forest cats. As long as we re-mark the borders, that should be enough.”
Fireheart nodded, following the senior warrior out of camp and up the ravine side. The breeze was cold as it blew by, carrying with it leaves and maple seeds. He fluffed his fur out as he shivered, trying to keep the chill at bay. “So where did they scent this kittypet?” He asked as they headed towards the Twolegplace.
Tinyfrost shrugged noncommittally. “They didn’t exactly say. Just somewhere near the Twolegplace, though probably farther away from the Treecut place. I can’t imagine they’d be hunting over there while the Monsters are active.”
He nodded in understanding. Only a half moon ago, the Twolegs had returned with their giant Monsters, tearing down tree after tree with large, serrated claws. He had seen that even the Riverclanners seemed less eager to visit Sunningrocks than usual on account of the noise. There was little prey to be found around that area. “So towards Snakerocks, then?” He questioned, though the mention of the rocks sent another shiver down his spine. The adders seemed less eager to be out than usual in the cold, but that hardly made the area safe.
“Indeed.” They traveled silently for a while, enjoying the beauty of the forest around them. There were some flowers that were late bloomers, their colors flashy and bright among the reds and oranges of the bushes. Most, however, were dropping their seeds, filling the forest with a nutty aroma that vaguely reminded Fireheart of when he had lived with his mother.
“So what really happened to Ravenspirit?”
It took a moment for him to process what Tinyfrost had said, but when he did, his blood ran cold. His former mentor had halted in the middle of a small clearing, his blue eyes focused intensely on the ginger tom. “W-what do you mean?” Fireheart stuttered, his heart racing. “Ravenspirit is dead. You know that.”
The little black tom chuffed as though he had said something funny. “You’ve always been a terrible liar, you know.” The older warrior circled him slowly, not taking his eyes off his former apprentice. “Come now. Tell me the truth.”
“Th-there’s nothing to tell.” He stumbled over his words as his mind raced for an explanation. Now it was clear that Tinyfrost had lied to him about Quickflash’s orders – looking for some reason to get him into the forest alone. “Ravenspirit was killed at the border. He- He’s been dead for nearly a season now.”
Tinyfrost stopped in front of him, his icy blue gaze narrowing before he sat down. “You have the largest heart of any cat I’ve ever known.” His voice was quiet, but somehow he still left the ginger tom hanging on his every word. “It makes you compassionate, even towards those outside of your Clan. It makes you a fierce protector that I wouldn’t dare cross.” He looked off into the forest, watching an oak leaf as it drifted gently to the ground. “But it also makes it terribly easy to read your emotions.” He looked back to the other warrior, his gaze still narrow and unreadable. “You’re scared now, because we both know you’re lying. So, tell me; what really happened to Ravenspirit that day?”
He took a step back, part of him longing to bolt back to camp. But he knew that was a terrible idea; his mentor was nothing if not persistent, and if he revealed everything to everyone in camp… “I- I can’t say.” He finally mewed with a shake of his head. He’d promised Ravenspirit that the Clan would think he was dead. If Tinyfrost revealed he wasn’t…
“It’s because of Tigerclaw, isn’t it?” He blinked back up at the small warrior in front of him.
“H-How- I mean, what makes you think Tigerclaw has anything to do with it?” He tried his best to sound baffled, but his former mentor was right; even he could hear the lie in his voice.
Tinyfrost sighed and looked away. “Did I ever tell you how I came to be a part of Thunderclan?” He asked the young warrior softly, his white tail tip flickering.
Fireheart hesitated. Was this a trick question? “You said you were a kittypet.” He finally replied, trying to steady himself. “You ran away from home when you were young, and Bluestar - Bluestar helped, somehow?”
The other tom hesitated before nodding slowly. “Yes. But that isn’t all of it, either.” He looked up to the blue sky above, peaceful white clouds drifting idly by. “I was the runt of my litter by far, nearly half the size of my brother. That was why they called me ‘Tiny’.” He wrinkled his nose distastefully. “My littermates would constantly push me around. I was too weak to fight back. They taunted me constantly, claimed that the Twolegs couldn’t wait to be rid of a failure like me. My mother did her best, but she couldn’t watch us all of the time.”
He paused for a moment, as though waiting for the other former kittypet to speak, but then rushed on. “We were told lurid tales of the forest by our mother, of course. How there were hawks big enough to snatch full grown cats, and that there were badgers, foxes, and coyotes that would happily snack on a stray kitten. She even told us of the wild cats that lived within, feasting on bones and live prey.” He shook his head. “We were forbidden to go there, of course.”
“Of course.” Fireheart echoed, slowly sitting down as well. His heart was still racing, but he knew better than to ask Tinyfrost to get to the point. Angering his former mentor would get him nowhere.
“I wanted to prove that I was braver and stronger than my siblings. So one day, when they were sleeping, I slipped through a gap in the fence and ran into the forest.” He shook his head wistfully. “It was fascinating. Dark and scary, of course, but fascinating. I climbed a tree stump that was three or four times taller than me, and saw a hawk fly by and catch a mouse while I watched. I was just about to leave and tell my siblings what I saw when I came across a Thunderclan patrol.”
The ginger tom remembered his own first time in the forest; how he had hunted a mouse, before Graystripe interrupted him. It had seemed mystical to him then; he could only imagine how it would have seemed as a young kit. “With Bluestar in it?” He guessed.
“Bluefur then.” He mewed with a dip of his head. “Bluefur, her apprentice Whitepaw, Adderfang, and his apprentice… Tigerpaw.”
He blinked at the last name. “Tigerpaw?” He shuddered. He couldn’t even imagine Tigerclaw as an apprentice. Had he been just as strong then as he was now?
“Yes. I was trespassing, of course, and Bluefur wanted to shoo me off. But Adderfang… he told Tigerpaw to teach me a lesson.”
Fireheart’s green eyes widened in shock. “What do you mean, teach you a lesson?” He echoed, though his heart sank. He already knew the answer.
“He savaged me.” The little warrior’s claws were dug into the ground, churning up the earth as he snarled out the words. “I will never forget the feeling of his claws and his fangs as he tore into me like I was a piece of prey. I think, if Bluefur had not intervened, he would have killed me.”
The thought chilled him to the bone. “But you were a kit! You said it yourself!” The fur bristled along his spine. “Attacking a kit is against the warrior code!”
“That’s what Bluefur said.” Tinyfrost sighed as he looked down at his mismatched paws. “I don’t know how old I was at the time. Maybe three or four moons, but because of my size I looked much younger; Spottedleaf thought I was only one and a half.” He shook his head. “Bluefur stopped Tigerpaw before he could kill me.”
His mind reeled at the revelation. The thought of attacking a kittypet - let alone a kit - so brutally was inconceivable to him. “What happened then?”
“She brought me back to camp, where Goosefeather and Spottedleaf - Spottedpaw, then - did their best to heal me.” He traced a long scar across his chest. “But I will always carry the brunt of Tigerpaw’s claws from that day.” His eyes were cold as he stared off into the distance, remembering a moment long past, before looking back to Fireheart. “Sweetfeather - a young queen back then - took me in, along with her newborn kits Goldenkit and Lionkit. They offered to take me back to my mother when I was fully healed, but by then I had had a taste of Clan life and refused. Since I had no choker, and they had no way of knowing where I came from… they agreed, and I was named Tinykit.”
Fireheart gave a small purr at that. “I’m glad they did. Thunderclan is better for having you.” But it was hard to be positive at the thought of what Tigerpaw had done to the little tom. “What about Tigerpaw? He broke the code, even if his mentor told him to.”
Tinyfrost dipped his head in acknowledgement. “Bluefur and Whitepaw told the whole Clan what Tigerpaw had done. Adderfang denied it, but Tigerpaw - he was proud of it.” He shook his head in disgust at the thought. “Pinestar - the leader at the time - reprimanded Adderfang for breaking the code and lying to the Clan, but Tigerpaw received no real consequences for following his mentor’s orders. Everyone believed that he had only done it because Adderfang told him to, and he didn’t understand the meaning of what he had done. Even Bluefur seemed to think so.” His blue eyes darkened as he spoke. “But I remember. I remember the joy in his eyes as he ripped me apart. His mentor may have given him the order, but Tigerpaw savored every moment of it.”
They sat in silence for a few moments as the breeze swirled around them. “Why tell me all of this?” Fireheart asked at last. “It’s awful what he did to you, but I don’t see what it has to do with anything.”
“So that you understand.” The black tom stood, releasing the hold of his claws on the ground below him. “The rest of the Clan may have moved on, but I never forgot that day. I knew then that Tigerclaw harbored only darkness in his heart. That one day, it would show itself again, and his next victim wouldn’t be as lucky as I was.”
He began pacing back and forth now, his eyes scanning the clearing as though looking for the fallen leaves to give him answers. “He never gave Ravenpaw more than a moment’s notice before you joined. Even afterwards, when he was injured, Tigerclaw couldn’t spare his son any attention. But then I saw him drag Ravenpaw away after the Gathering. Everyone thought it was just Tigerclaw being hard on his son, but that night I saw something I’d never seen before in his eyes.” He paused and took a deep breath before turning to face the ruddy warrior again. “It was fear.”
“Fear?” He flicked an ear in surprise. “I don’t understand.”
“His whole life, Tigerclaw has never met an enemy he couldn’t beat.” Tinyfrost began pacing again, his tail lashing angrily behind him. “What reason would he have to fear his son, barely bigger than me? Even if Ravenpaw spoke out against his father, the Clan would just think it was Tigerclaw being hard on his son so he would grow up to be a mighty warrior like him.” He halted suddenly a few tail-lengths away. “Unless… unless he knew something about his father that the rest of the Clan didn’t. Unless he saw his father do something that the Clan would reject him for.” He turned to face Fireheart, blue eyes blazing. “It wasn’t hard to figure it out from there.”
A tense silence hung in the air between them. “So you know.” A lump came to his throat as he spoke, but he couldn’t seem to swallow it down. “You know that Tigerclaw killed Redtail.”
The little tom dipped his head. “I suspected as much, but I had no proof.” He came to sit back down in front of his old apprentice. “So Ravenspirit told you that?”
Fireheart sighed. It seemed there was no point in hiding it any longer. “He did.” He admitted at last, glancing around to make sure they were alone. “That’s why Tigerclaw wanted the Clan to think Ravenspirit was a traitor, so they wouldn’t believe him if he told them the truth.” His tail lashed in anger as he remembered the last moments he had had with Ravenpaw in the forest. “He was going to kill him to get rid of the evidence.”
“So you took him somewhere safe.” Tinyfrost finished for him. “Somewhere Tigerclaw wouldn’t be able to hurt him.” He glanced out towards the Shadowclan border. “Not Shadowclan, though… We would’ve seen him during the battle. Somewhere further away than that.”
He nodded solemnly. “He’s safe now. I- I can’t tell you where, though. I promised Ravenspirit I would keep him safe, and the less cats that know, the better.”
“I understand.” The other tom flicked a black ear towards him. “As long as he lives, that’s all I need to know.” He flicked his tail towards the Twolegplace. “Come, then. We might as well mark the border while we’re here. Perhaps if we hurry, we can meet up with your friend Graystripe and the rest of the Shadowclan patrol.”
The young warrior hesitated. “Wait. There’s one more thing.” He glanced around, wondering if Redtail was listening. Surely he would be, given what they were discussing. “Before he left, Ravenspirit was being watched over. And now that he’s gone, his… guardian, if you will, has been helping us.” He looked around, trying to spot the ghostly calico among the leaves. “Redtail? You can show yourself now.”
“Redtail? But he died at the battle over Sunningrocks.” Tinyfrost looked around as well, though his eyes were narrow and suspicious.
“His spirit lives on.” Fireheart mewed confidently. “He said he won’t rest until he gets justice.” Still, as he looked around and even behind him, the former deputy was nowhere to be seen. “He usually pops up when we call him, though. Or even just talk about him. I don’t know where he-”
“DAD!”
The scream rang through the otherwise still forest. Immediately, the two warriors bolted, side by side as they raced past Snakerocks in the direction of the scream. Fireheart could feel his heart pounding fast in his chest as they ran. That had sounded like - but it couldn’t be-
They burst out of the tree line onto the side of the Thunderpath. There, he watched in horror as a brown tabby tom dragged the limp form of another cat off the Thunderpath and into the ditch beside it where two cats were bristling in horror. It was Dustleap, carrying the still body of Quickflash to where Graystripe and Longtail laid in wait.
Immediately, the dark gray tom buried his face in the pale tabby’s short fur. “Dad, no… come on, wake up. Wake up, please. You can’t- I’m not-” He broke down into sobs, nuzzling deeper into his father’s fur. Though Longtail was silent, his eyes were filled with tears as he stared down at the broken form of his brother. As Fireheart raised his head to meet Tinyfrost’s eyes, he knew they were both thinking only one thing.
Tigerclaw had struck again.

Just placed that the voice of the Diviner in Star Trek: Prodigy is John Noble, aka Walter Bishop, aka Denethor - he does have an impressive Shady Dad CV.
This is also a splendid addition to my "fictional characters from different movies/shows who have a parent played or voiced by the same actor are half-siblings to me" mental game - so now Gwynndala, Boromir and Faramir, and Peter Bishop are all related via John Noble in the same way as Moana and Boba Fett (via Temuera Morrison), or Finn Mertens and Charles Boyle (via Stephen Root), or the Black Adder and the Kevin Costner variant of Robin Hood (via Brian Blessed).
I was just wondering, though, how far I can apply this when more than one parent is involved - for example, Leia Organa and Amy Santiago are sisters because of Jimmy Smits, and Leia Organa and Ed Teach are siblings because of Simone Kessell. Do I make a dotted line between Amy and Ed, or do I not? Much to ponder, much to ponder.
