Beck - Loser 1993

"Loser" is a single by American musician Beck. It was written by Beck and record producer Carl Stephenson, who both produced the song with Tom Rothrock. "Loser" was initially released as Beck's second single by independent record label Bong Load Custom Records on 12-inch vinyl format with catalog number BL5 on March 8, 1993.

When it was first released independently, "Loser" began receiving airplay on various modern rock stations, and the song's popularity eventually led to a major-label record deal with Geffen Records-subsidiary DGC Records. After the song's re-release under DGC, the song peaked at number 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in April 1994, becoming Beck's first single to hit a major chart. Internationally, the song reached number one in Norway and entered the top 10 in Australia, Austria, Canada, Iceland, New Zealand, and Sweden. The song was subsequently released on the 1994 album Mellow Gold.

"Loser" received a total of 73,3% yes votes!

Printed BL5 today (big segment on the right). Nearing the halfway point of the blade. Gonna have to slice more parts to put on the USB soon haha These are going way faster than the Outrage parts. Instead of attaching all the pieces together at the end, I might start gluing them once all the blade parts are done so I don't have to spend a whole day smelling super glue and epoxy fumes.

I put in the order for my Sol jacket today too. They gave me a coupon for it (!!) and it ended up being WAY cheaper than I anticipated. I'm on cloud nine ngl. They weren't able to do the handcuffs on the sleeves (fair, tbh) but the straps for them are there so I'll have to rip them off the Sol model and make 3D prints once the jacket comes in and I can measure how big they need to be.

Forget if I mentioned this on here already, but I got an air compressor (Airgoo) for my airbrush for christmas. It needs a specific adapter piece to work with my Iwata that I'll have to order later when I need to use it though. It's gonna be wicked being able to airbrush the Tess scythe instead of brushing the paint on. Much, much, faster and smoother.

How detailed you go with the poser is 100% up to you, but keep in mind that the fewer shapes you use the better the app will run. For this tutorial I'm going for the upper end of what I'd recommend attempting, mostly just to prevent the app from dying every time you open the file.

Step 1:

Make a reference image. Ideally you want a good head on front and side view of whatever it is you're making. I'm lazy and need a horse, so for this tutorial I'll be using this stock photo of a horse

Step 2:

Magic poser lets you group multiple objects together so they can be rotated and moved as a single shape, that is the only reason this method is any kind of doable. This step is technically optional but breaking the form down like this Before you start modeling makes it easier to organize things as you go, and breaks the task up into easier to digest components.

Your goal here is to break the form down into groups you will largely never ungroup. So large forms that will move as a single piece, things like legs and tails will generally be the exception and may be grouped and ungrouped repeatedly during the posing process.

Because I'm going for a fairly high detail end result my groups will be:

Head

Nk1 (neck segment 1), Nk2, Nk3

Chest

Belly

Pelvis

FR1 (Front right shoulder), FR2 (Front right upper arm), FR3 (front right forearm), FR4(front right ankle),FR5 (front right hoof)

FL1, FL2, FL3, FL4, FL5

BL1, BL2, BL3, BL4 BL5

BR1, BR2, BR3, BR4, BR5

Step 2.2:

this is completely optional, but if you want to break up the groups into shapes ahead of time, that can make it easier to get everything set up in the file. Alternatively you can just create proportion blocks to give yourself easy reference points during the actual modeling.

Step 3:

If your model is going to interacting with another standard model then it can be helpful to drop the standard into the scene alongside any reference blocks you might have decided on in step 2.2, this is just so you don't have to resize the model every time you use it.

Step 4:

Good luck. (but for real, from here it's up to you to get everything sorted, there's not much specific advice I can give other than reminding you the fewer corners the better. and adding 'pins', a small pair of shapes used to line up two groups, is genuinely going to make your life so much easier. When you're done making a group it can also be helpful to set it to a default position, ungroup it, and then regroup it so it's axis of rotation is in a more convenient place)

Printed two more Tess scythe pieces recently. BL6 down on the blade tip and H1, which is a mostly hidden internal support piece for the skull and spine sections. Gonna put on BL5, a 10 hour print, tomorrow. 15 of 19 pieces left. Probably 280 hours total of printing remaining.

The blade only has 10% infill while I'm doing the handle pieces at 20% to try to keep it from being too top heavy. It's still going to end up being significantly lighter than the Outrage when it's done. Maybe around 5lbs compared to the Outrage's 10lbs.

Also: Halfway done translating chapter 1, part 3 of Lightning the Argent. Will have a rough draft online soon, but I'm still busy with family stuff and other time sensitive projects. "Soon" could be a few weeks haha. It's moving at least
