[ad_1] Chandrashekhar Bawankule, BJP President Maharashtra | Image: X/@cbawankule3 min read Last Updated : Oct 16 2024 | 1:11 PM IST Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Wednesday said Chief Minister Eknath Shinde should be willing to make "sacrifices", in terms of seat-sharing for the assembly polls, like the BJP has done to keep the alliance intact. The comments come a day after the Election Commission announced the schedule for polls to 288 seats in the state assembly. Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp Voting is scheduled on November 20 and the counting will take place on November 23. "Chief Minister Eknath Shinde must remain open-minded and be willing to make sacrifices. We, too, have made sacrifices to uphold the alliance. It is evident that the BJP aims to contest the seats we previously held," Bawankule told ABP Majha news channel in Nagpur. As the dominant party in the alliance, it is only natural for the BJP to seek more seats, he said. Asked if Union Home Minister Amit Shah reportedly stated that the BJP "sacrificed" the CM's post while forging an alliance with Shinde-led Shiv Sena, Bawankule said, "I do not know what Union minister Amit Shah said to Shinde. It is true that the chief minister holds the highest position and represents the government."He said they have urged Shinde that as the larger party, BJP should have a bigger share for contesting seats. It is impossible to measure who made greater "sacrifices", the BJP leader said. "As the chief minister, he could have expected more seats to contest in the assembly polls. However, it is not feasible to enter the elections with tension within the alliance. Our stance is that we should be able to contest the seats we have previously won," Bawankule said. There is no point in demanding more seats to contest for the sake of numbers, he said. Asked about the agenda of BJP leaders' meeting in New Delhi scheduled on Wednesday, Bawankule said, "We will discuss the candidates and the seats we want to contest. There are some seats that we lost by a thin margin in the 2019 assembly elections."There will not be any discussion on the seats won by the Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar-headed NCP in today's meeting, he said. The BJP has conducted a detailed survey for Maharashtra and based on it, the discussion will take place in Delhi, he added. On the possibility of swapping some seats with the alliance partners, Bawankule said, "We may consider swapping a few seats with Shiv Sena. Additionally, there are strong candidates from both BJP and NCP, as the NCP contested against us in the 2019 assembly polls. We need more time to take a final decision in this matter."Bawankule, who is a member of the state legislative council, also said he would not seek a ticket from the party. "I won the Kamthi assembly seat in 2014 but the party asked me not to contest the 2019 polls. I have been working as the BJP state president since some time. The party will take a final decision on whether I should contest the election or not. The BJP will win the Kamthi seat irrespective of the candidate," he said. In this meeting, PM Narendra Modi was chosen to take the role of the alliance leader and the Prime Minister of the nation unanimously by the alliance members. The leaders in the venue stood and applauded PM Modi on several occasions in the event. Amidst this, a video was posted on X (formerly Twitter) stating that BJP leader and the current Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari did not join the other leaders to stand and cheer for Modi. Anything to stop Narendra Modi from becoming Prime Minister; Asaduddin Owaisi
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, the candidate for the Lok Sabha seat from Hyderabad, openly said that he is willing to support anyone other than Narendra Modi in the fight for prime ministerial candidate.
In a statement to ANI, Mr. Owaisi said "I cannot talk about ifs, buts, and possibilities. I had said during the elections that if there is a chance that someone else can become the PM instead of Modi, then we will support them."
Talking about the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, Owaisi said that getting this many votes in the election should not have happened for BJP this time.
The atmosphere that was there in the country, according to the BJP should not have got even this number of seats. If we had done the right work they would have just got 150 seats. We could have stopped the BJP from forming the government and even the public wanted this, but were unsuccessful. But, at least we cannot be blamed," said Mr Owaisi.
"One thing is clear there wasn't any Muslim vote bank in the country and there never will be," he added.
Owaisi also talked about the BJP’s performance in Uttar Pradesh and said, "They thought they were invisible in UP but no one is invincible. Will PM Modi run the government with the help of crutches?"
Mr. Owaisi recorded 6,61,981 votes and defeated BJP's Madhavi Latha.
Thanking the people, Owaisi in a press conference said, I would like to thank the people as they have given success to Majlis for the fifth time. I would like to thank the people of Hyderabad, especially the youth, women, and first-time voters who have given a historic success to the AIMIM party."

'We are both India and Bharat, rest will be taken care of by Baba Baidyanath': RJD chief Lalu
Lalu also expressed concern over present affairs in the country and asserted that PM Modi's "exit is certain" following the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
RANCHI: RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Monday accused the BJP government of “doing away” with the constitution and “wipe out” the name of BR Ambedkar.
Speaking to the media after offering prayers at Baba Baidyanath Dham temple in Jharkhand’s Deoghar, the RJD supremo remarked, “We will not allow the constitution, poor, unemployed or Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar to be harmed in any way. They (the saffron party) want to wipe out the name of Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar.”
Lalu also expressed concern over present affairs in the country and asserted that PM Modi’s “exit is certain” following the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
“The situation in the country is not good. Inflation and unemployment are at its peak. People are falling prey to hunger. Narendra Modi has resorted to deceiving people again with elections around the corner….But his exit is certain this time,” claimed the former Union Minister.
When asked about the ongoing ‘Bharat’ renaming controversy, the RJD Chief said, “We are both India and Bharat; the rest will be taken care of by Baba Baidyanath.”
“I visited both Baba Baidyanath and Basukinath and offered prayers to them and will visit a few other religious places following which I will jump into the poll battle and start the work for the INDIA block formed by 28 political parties,” he added.
He also came down heavily on PM Modi over the reduction of LPG prices, terming it a tactic to “deceive people before the elections.”
“The Prime Minister is trying to fool the people by reducing the price of gas cylinders by Rs 200, as if, he is paying it from his own pocket…. It is the money of the people. The funds for ration or kerosene come from citizens’ money,” the RJD chief remarked.
Terming the G20 summit a “waste of money”, Lalu questioned what benefit the common people of India would get from the summit. “What difference did G20 Summit make to the people of this Country…So much money in this Country was wasted by inviting so many people from across the world,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lalu informed that the INDIA bloc parties will start brainstorming soon to select candidates for the 2024 polls in New Delhi later this month, which will also be attended by Bihar Deputy CM Tejaswi Yadav. “A committee has already been formed and Prime Ministerial candidate will be elected one from them only,” he said.
There are no differences on the issue of the Prime Ministerial candidate and a consensus leader of the block will also be selected in due course, Yadav continued.

[ad_1] 3 min read Last Updated : Oct 14 2024 | 1:37 PM IST Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in Manipur, belonging to the Meitei, Kuki, and Naga communities are set to hold a joint meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday, according to agency reports. This will be the first such meeting since ethnic violence erupted in Manipur in May 2023. The violence in the northeastern state has left more than 200 people dead and thousands displaced. The meeting will be held under the supervision of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and aims to find a peaceful resolution to the crisis. Three Naga MLAs, Awangbou Newmai, L Dikho, and Ram Muivah, all members of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), a key ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Manipur, have confirmed their attendance at the talks. While Ram Muivah is already in New Delhi on personal business, reports said. The exact number of Meitei and Kuki legislators expected to participate is yet to be finalised, though a few Meitei MLAs from the BJP have reportedly already left for the national capital. Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp Govt efforts to facilitate dialogue The talks are part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)-led central government's efforts to facilitate a dialogue between the warring communities and seek a peaceful solution to the crisis in the state. The ongoing violence has sharply divided the state along ethnic lines, primarily between the hill-dwelling Kuki and the valley-majority Meitei communities. The ethnic tensions were triggered on 3 May 2023 when the All Tribal Students Union (ATSU) organised a rally against the demand for the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. The violence has claimed over 200 lives and displaced approximately 50,000 people. Over the past few months, security forces in the state have conducted several operations to recover illegal arms and ammunition. Congress wins Manipur Lok Sabha polls Manipur held elections for its two Lok Sabha constituencies earlier this year, with both seats being won by the Congress. In Inner Manipur, Congress candidate Angomcha Bimol Akoijam secured victory over BJP candidate Thounaojam Basant Kumar Singh, by a margin of over 109,000 votes. In Outer Manipur, Congress’ Alfred Kanngam S Arthur won by more than 85,000 votes against Naga People’s Front candidate Kachui Timothy Zimik. The Congress’ success in both seats signals a shift in the political landscape of Manipur, which has been a BJP stronghold in recent years. It also further emphasises the need for political intervention to resolve the ongoing crisis. The upcoming meeting between Meitei, Kuki, and Naga legislators marks an important development in the ongoing peace efforts. The Home Ministry’s involvement in supervising the talks is a positive signal, however, reconciliation remains a challenge as deep-rooted ethnic divisions are still prevalent.
