Was watching Peace on Us and idly noticed I couldn't quite tell where BJ's left arm ends up when Hawk leaps into him:
Tumblr media
At first I thought it was a full bridal carry that transitioned into the hold they have on him later, but pretty clear from the way Hawk's positioned + BJ's arm angle here that isn't quite the case:
Tumblr media
anyway I assumed he's holding him by the shin or knee or something, or maybe the ankle? But no:

Can I get a Hawkeye/Reader fic from the Alphabet prompt list? Limping!
I recently listened to this really cute audio where the listener had a sprained ankle and it gave me ideas! This is another short one but I hope you enjoy <3
Just a Sprain
Warning: Description of sprained ankle, canon-typical language
Tumblr media
"You little, conniving, brainless, son of a-"
"All right, all right. If you're going to call me names, at least choose something a little more imaginative."
B.J. and Hawkeye stood as Charles helped you into the Swamp. You leaned heavily against him, trying to keep the weight off your right foot. "I told you that would happen, Charles! The next time you want someone to play football with, ask Potter."
"No offense intended, but I'd rather have you break your ankle than Potter break a hip."
"The hell did you do to her?" B.J. asked.
"This is what happens when we let the kids play outside alone." Hawkeye was by your side in a second, taking your arm and helping you to sit on the edge of his cot. "What happened?"
"Charles tripped me because I was winning." You shot Charles a look, the weight of it lessening as you winced.
"I did not! And you were not winning."
"Let me see," Hawkeye knelt on the ground and began to untie your boot.
"Here," B.J. offered you a glass of something clear and foul smelling which you gladly took.
"Thanks." You downed the glass in one gulp, hissing at the burn of it sliding down your throat.
Hawkeye gently slid off your boot followed by your sock. You gave a soft groan at the sight of your already swelling ankle. "Oh, god,"
"This'll probably hurt a bit," Hawkeye gently prodded your ankle, causing you to jerk.
"Looks like a sprain, Hawk." B.J. mused, leaning over his shoulder to look.
"I agree." Hawkeye looked up at you. "Sorry, baby. You'll need to get x-rays."
"I truly am sorry." Charles said.
"I know, Charles. It was an accident." You exhaled slowly, leaning back to lay on the bed and stare up at the ceiling, swearing to yourself that you'll never play football again.

Rules: make a 24 hour poll with the names of your WIPs, let it run, then write one sentence for every vote the winner receives.
Most of my WIPs don't actually have titles so you actually get more info on those lmao especially because my titles are often misleading 🤭 series titles are for my own benefit as much as anyone's
Let's see if it posts this time 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

ATTENTION ALL PERSONNEL!
Plea to M*A*S*H-obsessed Tumblr- can anyone help me find the highest quality version possible of this photo?
Tumblr media
I am looking for the highest quality version of this photo as possible. Needs to be the whole thing- bodies, bike and all.
I've got the Suzy Kalter Complete Book of M*A*S*H, which has the image in it, but the quality is not ideal. If you have this book, and know how to get a high-res scan, it's on page 234/235.
The above version is 1536x2048. If anyone is crafty and create a high-resolution version of the image from Kalter's book (or another source I don't know about?? Kalter's book is the only place I've seen this photo in full) please let me know. I was around for the original run of the show, which means I'm not very techy and I have no idea what can and cannot be done with this image. But I also know there are lots of very talented fans out there who know what magic buttons to push and make it work.
If that's absolutely impossible, this is the next best thing (page 233 in Kalter's book):
Tumblr media
But the one hugging is definitely priority if possible. I know the one with just BJ on the bike has a better version in the Life special, but my online copy is corrupted- if you have a non-corrupted version, can you also let me know?
Thank you!

Lollipop
I had just gotten done with my shift by the time that lunch was called, so I decided to go ahead and get lunch while a nurse said that she’d take over. I went through the line as usual, and as I was finishing up on filling my tray, I noticed that Hawkeye had been sitting across a higher up that I’d never seen before. Before I could think anything of it, Hawkeye waved for me to come over. I did as Hawkeye wanted, and then I’m talking along with the both of them.
“Trap! This is my nemesis Colonel Flagg.”
“Ah, another man here for Margaret?”
“Very funny you two, but I’m here strictly on business.”
We both shared a look of, “this guy isn’t worth our time” and went back to listen to whatever it was that he had to say. After I cracked a joke.
“I thought Margaret was business.”
“Not exactly Captain…?”
“Trapper McIntyre.”
“John, Trapper McIntyre.”
“You look…happy, Hawkeye. You haven’t smiled once since I sat down.”
“Trapper brings it out of me.”
“I knew it! You’re one of those too!”
“Sue me.”
Flagg wrote some stuff down on a stack of paper that was attached to his clipboard. I decided to keep my mouth shut, as Colonel Flagg was already more than annoyed.
“What about you, McIntyre?”
“Only on the weekends.”
“Sometimes on Monday’s.”
“I thought it was Tuesday’s?”
“Enough, you two. If I find out that any of that is true, especially for you, Hawkeye, you’re going to get a dishonorable discharge.”
“Trap? How does an all expenses-paid trip back to the states sound?”
“Not half bad, to be honest.”
“I thought you were married, McIntyre.”
“Haven’t been since, uh, Hawkeye?”
“Two weeks ago.”
“So you two really are a couple?”
“No, but also yes, but also no, but yeah, but also, no.”
We could tell that Flagg was getting more annoyed with us the more he sat with us, and so he moved to another table with Frank and Margaret. Hawkeye and I just laughed until we were both red in the face.
“Trap?”
“Yeah?”
“What time do we go back to work?”
“I only got scheduled until lunch. What about you?”
“Are you off tonight?”
“I am”
“Perfect, me too!”
“No way!”
“I begged the Colonel, and he agreed. Even he hates Flagg.”
“Who wouldn’t?”
“Margaret and Frank over there. I mean, they’re practically drooling over him.”
“Ah, let them.”
I could tell that there was something else on Hawkeye’s mind, but I couldn’t figure out just exactly what it was, yet. However, as we sat in comfortable silence, I couldn’t ruin it. Lunch ended, Hawkeye went to work, and I decided to join him, as I had nothing else to do, and I sure as hell was not about to listen to Frank boast about how great Flagg was. I would’ve slapped him. I took this opportunity to talk to Hawkeye more.
“Trapper! You don’t have to be here.”
“I figured that I’d just check in and see how everyone’s doing. Mainly, how you’re doing.”
“Trap, I’m doing just fine. I mean, I am tired of Flagg already, and he just got here. However, I’m hoping that Margaret and Frank can keep him occupied enough to the point that he’ll leave us alone. What do you think about him?”
“He seems like a MacArthur wannabe, really.”
I got closer to Hawkeye, but not enough to touch him. He must’ve been too preoccupied to notice, or just assumed that I needed to get by. I decided to put my hands around his waist to move him over.
“What was that for, Trap?”
“Just grabbing some supplies here.”
Hawkeye followed me over, and put his hand on my shoulder and started whispering in my ear. I took this as a sign to lower my voice as well.
“Do that again.”
“Why?”
“It felt…good.”
“Good? Or do you want me to do more?”
“Trap, it’s the middle of the day.”
“And?”
“What if Flagg catches us?”
“We can lock the supply room, tell radar to keep Flagg occupied, and do as we please.”
“That’s not effective enough. Besides, he can just have Henry unlock it.”
“We can’t go to The Swamp either. Hmm, what if we go to that abandoned tent?”
“Flagg claimed it.”
“Dammit!”
“Trap, keep your voice low.”
“Wait until tonight.”
“I hate waiting.”
“I know, but I promise it’ll be worth it.”
“What’s in it for me?”
“A release.”
“Excuse me?”
“You heard me. I promise it’ll be worth it.”
“Fine, but I’m going to hold you to that.”
“Fine with me, Hawk.”
I kissed his cheek quick.
“Until tonight, my love.”
“Un-Until tonight.”
I went off to The Swamp and noticed Frank and Flagg standing in the middle talking. I wasn’t paying attention to what they were saying, but it was starting to annoy me. Then again, both of them being there annoyed me.
“Are you one of them, McIntyre?”
“Does it matter?”
“If you want to stay here, yes.”
“So, stay here and be miserable or go home and be miserable. I’m seeing a lose-lose situation here. Either way, it doesn’t matter.”
“I will tell Blake about this.”
“Go ahead, He’ll side with me.”
Flagg and Frank then left, and I was finally happy. Then, Hawkeye came in.
“I thought you were working.”
“I was, but Henry let me go.”
“I wonder why.”
“Something about me needing some time off, or something. All I really heard was,”you’re working too hard, why do you take a break for a bit?” I’m thankful either way.”
“Me too. Hawkeye?”
“Yeah. Could you come here for a moment?”
“Of course! Cold?”
“Extremely.”
“Allow me.”
Hawkeye walked right over, and held me. It was a really nice feeling, and I really just wanted to hold him.
“Trap?”
“Yeah?”
“What are we going to do about Flagg?”
“Beg Henry to make him leave sooner rather than later.”
“And how are we going to do that?”
“Make his stay as unbearable as humanly possible.”
“How so?”
“What did we do to drive Sargent Wall outta here?”
“Well, we made as many jokes as we could.”
“I’ll get the oatmeal.”
“I’ll get the goat.”
I allowed Hawkeye to leave first, but I couldn’t help but watch him leave. I couldn’t help but feel like I was down bad.
“I borrowed Radar’s goat.”
“I’ve got the oatmeal.”
“You should put that in Frank’s boots too.”
“I should.”
“Half and half.”
“Perfect!”
“So are you.”
Fuck. Why did I say that? Now how in the hell am I going to play that off?
“I mean-”
“You-you like me?”
Welp, there’s no going back now.
“I do.”
“I like you too.”
“Is it enough to…?”
“Oh, absolutely! I thought you’d never ask!”
“We’re thinking the same thing, right?”
“I hope so.”
“On the count of three, let’s just say it.”
“Okay.”
We both started counting from three, and then this happened.
“Three…two…one… sex!”
We both had a dumbfounded look on our faces, but it soon turned into a giant fit of laughter.
“I can’t believe that we thought of the same thing!”
“Me either! How are we this attached?”
“Beats the hell outta me! I like it, though.”
“Me too.”
I kept staring into his beautiful blue eyes. It was as if I couldn’t look away from them, but business had to be done.
“We should uh..”
“Oh, yeah. Tonight, right?”
“Of course.”
“Good.”
With that awkward conversation out of the way, we moved onto what the purpose of us being here.
“Oatmeal’s in his boot.”
“Goat’s eating the paperwork.”
“Let’s get the outta here before they notice.”
“I agree.”
“Did Radar tell you when the goat has to be back?”
“Once this is over. Apparently Flagg said something that upset Radar. I’d like to know what he said. I'd like to give him a taste of his own medicine.”
“Hawkeye, you’ll knock his lights out before he can even open his mouth.”
“Damn right I will. No one upsets Radar like that.”
“How bad was it?”
“Radar fell apart as soon as he opened his mouth.”
“Let’s go ahead and ruin him.”
“If only there was a way that I could get him kicked out without getting kicked out myself.”
“I didn’t read anything like that in the manual. Maybe Henry knows.”
We headed to dinner, and waited for an official and a major to start yelling like a couple of madmen. Just then, Frank and flagg stormed in yelling, raising hell, and being a couple of idiots.
“My papers have been eaten by a goat! My boots had a copious amount of oatmeal being shoved in them, and frank’s too! Now, which one of you, or two of you are responsible for this?!”
The whole mess tent went silent.
“No one wants to break, huh?”
Flagg made his way over to Hawkeye and I. We weren’t nervous, but rather tried to control our laughter.
“You idiots!”
“Caught us.”
“Do you two know what you’ve done?!”
“Do we care?”
“I know you two don’t!”
I saw Hawkeye slowly start to stand up. He kept eye contact with Flagg and for once, I couldn’t stop smiling. Just then, Hawkeye balled up his hand into a fist, and punched Flagg with as much strength as he could.
“That was for making Radar upset. This is for bothering the hell out of Trap and I.”
Just then, Hawkeye kicked him, not enough to cause any harm, but just enough to scare the daylights outta Flagg. I watched out of pure amazement. Flagg left shortly after, and so did Frank, Margaret, and just about the whole camp, except for Hawkeye and I.
“Hawkeye?”
“Yes?”
“Has anyone ever told you that you look attractive when you’re mad?”
“Never.”
“I’d like to be the first then.”
“Really?”
“Watching you strike him in the face was the biggest sense of relief I’ve ever been a witness to. It looked personal too.”
“It was. Radar is like a nephew to me. We gotta watch out for each other, y’know?”
“I understand. Honestly, it was kinda hot.”
“Hot?”
“Hot enough for me to…”
I slowly snaked a hand over Hawkeye’s pants, and slowly started to rub his cock. He was like putty in my hands. I moved Hawkeye onto my lap and started kissing his neck. Hearing his moans and watching him squirm excited something in me. We stayed like that until Hawkeye started to writher in my hands out of pleasure, but I knew we couldn't stay like that for long.
“Not-Not here.”
“I agree. Let’s go back to The Swamp, lock the door, and have some fun.”
“Let-let’s make sure Frank isn’t there.”
“I’ll double check, my love.”
“What did you just call me?”
“My love. It’s just a placeholde-”
Hawkeye shut me up with a kiss. His lips were so soft and inviting. I couldn’t help but kiss him more. He started running his hands through my hair, not enough to ruin it, but just enough to fluff it up more. We slowly started pulling away for air, but when we fully pulled away, Hawkeye’s eyes sparkled.
“Your eyes are like sapphires, Hawkeye.”
“Really?”
“You have no idea. I could stare at them all day. You probably think that’s really corny, though”
“Trap?”
“Yeah?”
“There’s nothing you could do or say that would make me adore you any less.”
“Hawkeye, there’s something that I’ve been meaning to tell you.”
“Yeah?”
“I-I’m in love with you. You make me so damn happy, I finally know what love is. After everything you and I have been through, I figured now would be the best time to tell you. I couldn't tell you in front of Flagg, or even Henry. I, John “Trapper” McIntyre, am in love with you.”
“On that note, I, Benjamin Franklin “Hawkeye” Pierce, am also in love with you, and have been since we worked on that one patient together.”
“I don’t know what to say. Hawkeye, you just made me the happiest man in all of Korea.”
“Then, that makes me the second happiest man in Korea.”
I saw Hawkeye’s smile get bigger, and by the time that we had made our confession, we were already at our tent. However, there was Henry, Margaret, Frank, and Flagg standing in front of it. I hoped to every god that I could think of that they didn’t hear our confession.
“So, you two pranked us?”
“Yes.”
“Do you know what you’ve done?!”
“Nope.”
“Do either of you care?”
I looked over at Hawkeye, who now had the biggest grin of satisfaction on his face. We spoke in unison.
“Nope!”
With that, Flagg left. Everyone else, including Henry, threw their hands up and continued life as normal. Margaret and Frank went to their shared quarters, and Hawkeye and I were finally alone. We walked into our shared space and locked the door. I watched Hawkeye get undressed from today. I decided to carefully walk behind him, put my arms around his waist, and start kissing his neck softly. Hawkeye leaned into me, and I started tracing my hands over his skin.
“I-is it safe, Trap?”
“It is, my love.”
“Touch me more. Please, touch me more.”
I did what Hawkeye begged me to. His skin was so soft and he was incredibly vulnerable. I noticed that Hawkeye had already removed his boots and socks. I started to lose myself in him, but when my hands guided themselves to his pants, I couldn’t control myself. I reached the waistband of his pants, but stopped to look up at him.
“Trap-Trapper?”
“Yes?”
“Off.”
“Off?”
“Off. Please.”
I removed Hawkeye’s pants, and kissed his neck all the way down to his navel. I noticed that he shivered more the lower I went. I laid him down on my cot, got in between his legs, and kissed his lips more. He started pulling at my clothes as well, so I slowly removed everything until I was just in my boxers and t-shirt.
“Trapper?”
“Yes?”
“I-I’ve never been with a guy before.”
“Me neither. Let’s just take things slow, my dear. I promise I won’t hurt you.”
“Not unless I want you to?”
“Not unless you want me to.”
Hawkeye kissed me again, and I couldn’t help but kiss back. I couldn’t help but touch Hawkeye more. Having him this close was a gift from the heavens. I dreamt of this moment before, but I couldn’t believe that it would feel this good.
“Trap?”
“Yes?”
“I-I’m ready.”
“Me too. Let me grab the supplies.”
As I was taking off my shirt and boxers, I grabbed the lube and condoms. Shortly after, I felt Hawkeye run a hand through my hand and mutter about how handsome I looked in the pale moonlight draped through the empty slots of the old weathered wood that was our window.
“Hawkeye?”
“Yeah? You look so goddamn beautiful.”
“I-”
“Shhh, talk later. For now, let’s enjoy our night.”
I slid on the condom and put the lube on. I heard that there wasn’t such a thing as too much lube, so I put as much on as I felt was appropriate. Obviously, I didn’t want to hurt the man who was to take my virginity in this way. I lined myself up with Hawkeye and slowly entered him, not wanting to hurt him.
“S-so big.”
“Easy, baby. Relax for me.”
“Ye-yes, Sir.”
“You’re doing so good, my love.”
I allowed Hawkeye to get adjusted to my size, and watched him become a mess in the process. His beautiful blue eyes were blown out with lust, and damn was he handsome. I eventually pulled out of Hawkeye, but steadily entered him again.
“Trap?”
“Everything okay? We-”
“I-I just wanted you to know that, I’ve wanted this for so long.”
“Me too, baby. That day I saw you in that blue Hawaiian shirt with a martini in hand, thinking evil thoughts, I just knew I had to have you.”
Hawkeye closed his eyes and had the biggest smile on his face as I started to build up a rhythm. Knowing that I was the one doing this to him made me feel something deep in my heart. I felt like I was falling in love all over again, but harder than before.
“Trapper. Trapper.”
“Yes?”
“Don’t stop. Please don’t stop.”
“I won’t, not now at least.”
“I feel so close…”
“Not yet, my darling. Just wait a little longer.”
“It feels so good…”
“I know, baby. But, not yet. I promise it’ll be soon.”
“Ngk. I need you.”
“I know baby, I need you too.”
Seeing Hawkeye so close, and that I was the cause, turned me on more. Could it be the way that he was moaning my name? Maybe. Could it be the way that I was fucking him? Could be. Either way, I had no plans on stopping. Hawkeye started gripping the sheets and became more of a mess than I thought that he would. It could just be the words of my ex wife telling me that, “no one would love me the way that she did.” Or the fact that this was my first time pleasing the one I love.
“Trapper…”
“I know, baby. You’re doing so well for me, angel.”
“A-angel?”
“Did I say something wrong?”
“Quite the opposite. I like that nickname.”
“Oh baby, you’re my angel. My one and only.”
Hawkeye closed his eyes once again, and I started picking up the pace, but not enough to hurt my love.
“D-don’t stop.”
“Enjoying this, are we?”
“Y-yes, Sir.”
“Sir? That must mean that you’ll be obedient, but only for me.”
“I’ll do whatever you want me to. I-I’ll even shine your boots for you. Just don’t stop.”
I could tell that Hawkeye was getting close, so I slowed down, not wanting to ruin the moment too much.
“Why-why’d you slow down?”
“You were getting close, and I didn’t want you to cum just yet.”
Hawkeye let out a low groan, but slowly started to smile again. I had him just where I wanted him.
“Angel, I don’t want our fun to be over just yet. I want tonight to be memorable. It’s what you deserve.”
“A night of romance and sexual pleasure?”
“Hawkeye, you bust your ass day in and day out. You go outta your way to help those who need it. Hell, you’re dealing with me for fuck’s sake. That’s a handful and then some, angel. And you’re doing such a damn good job too. Hawkeye, you deserve nothing but absolute pleasure, and I’m more than happy to give that to you.”
“You mean it?”
“Every bit of it, my love.”
“Come here.”
I did as Hawkeye wanted, and he pulled me into a passionate kiss. He then, slowly started trailing kisses all over my body while muttering about how much he loves it. When he got back to my neck, there were hickey’s all over it, leading down to my navel. We started making out like a couple of teenagers, that is, until Hawkwye’s hands snaked their way around my waist, and then all over my back.
“Fuck…”
“Where do you want me, Sir?”
“On your back, angel. Just like that…”
Hawkeye leaned back, and I realigned myself with him. I slowly started pumping into him, but also watched him writher in delight. Hawkeye started panting harder, and his moans filled my ears like a song. I was in such a state of euphoria that I felt like I was about to cum. I had to hold it in a little longer so we could truly become one.
“Sir, I’m so close…oh god, I’m so close.”
“Easy, baby. Hold it just a little longer.”
“But.”
“Shhhh…”
Hawkeye relaxed once again and I felt like I was finally in control once more. I sped up more, but this time, I knew I wasn’t going to last much longer.
“I’m so close, Sir.”
“Me too, baby. Oh god, I’m fucking close.”
“Don’t stop. Fuck, don’t stop.”
“I-I.”
“Cum for me, Sir. Please…”
As soon as Hawkeye said that, I came. Hawkeye did too, but the face that he made when he came was like looking at a masterpiece.
“You-you’re staring.”
“I know. It’s just that you’re so fucking beautiful.”
“Thank you.”
“Of course, angel. Come here, let’s get some rest.”
“Do you think the camp heard us?”
“Who cares? Let them.”
“Trapper, your neck.”
I looked at my neck, and sure enough Hawkeye’s teeth marks were deep. I didn’t really mind them, it was like having a sense of seniority and dominance on me. I was proud to have them.
“I-“
“Don’t apologize. You were amazing, Hawkeye. And hey, I could get used to these”
“Thank you, Trapper. That one’s in an obvious spot, though.”
“That’s okay, I like it. It beats having to wear a ring.”
“But-”
“They’re from you, baby. I now have you with me all the time, and that’s the best thing that I could ever have, I promise.”
“What about Flagg?”
“Oh, fuck Flagg. If he decides to somehow send us back, let him. This place won’t really survive long without us. Especially you. You’re the heart and backbone of this camp. They’d be lost without you.”
“You really think so?”
“I know so. C’mon, let’s get cleaned up.”
“Okay.”
I grabbed our robes, soap, and then some, and then led Hawkeye to the showers. The camp was practically deserted, so getting to the showers without getting yelled at, either by Henry or a major, was a breeze. I helped Hawkeye clean up, as he didn’t have much strength in his legs, and also washed his hair.
“You’re taking care of me?”
“Of course I’m taking care of you. You’re my baby.”
“You’re too good for me.”
“No baby, you’re too good for me.”
“I love you, Trapper.”
“I love you too, darling.”
After our shower, we got dressed, took our stuff back to The Swamp, changed out everything, and headed to bed. Hawkeye fell asleep the moment I draped an arm around him. I shortly followed after thinking about how much in love I truly was.

Our Love Is Here To Stay
It was just like any other day in the 4077th. BJ and I were sound asleep after a long night in surgery. Charles was also sound asleep, I could tell by his snoring. I woke up before the both of them, so I decided to go out and get BJ and myself something to eat without disturbing the both of them. To my luck, it worked out in my favor. I walked to the mess tent, greeted Colonel Potter and Father Mulcahy, got my trays and BJ’s, sat down for a few minutes to talk and grab coffee, and headed back to my destination. I gently kissed BJ’s forehead before setting his stuff onto his nightstand. To my surprise, he cupped my face, pulled me closer to him, gently cupped my face, and kissed my cheek.
“Good morning, my love.”
“Good morning, my dear. Ooh, breakfast!”
“I also got you a cup of coffee. Just the way you like it, I believe.”
“I’ll be the judge if that, but all that matters is that you tried your best.”
I watched BJ take a sip,and set his cup down.
“Tastes fantastic! Thank you, my dove.”
“You’re welcome, Beej. I know it’s not that great, but I tried my best.”
“Your best is good enough for me.”
I could feel a smile creep up onto my face, and then I felt my face go pink.
“Any plans for tonight, Hawk?”
“Not that I’m aware of. Why?”
“I was thinking that the two of us could finally have that date night that we’ve been talking about. The weather’s supposed to be absolutely perfect.”
“If our schedules allow it, I’d love to. After all, this will be our first date in, let’s see, three months.”
“I know it’s been awhile, baby. I’ll make it up to you.”
“It’s not your fault, I blame the army. I do appreciate the sentiment, though.”
“In that case, how about you and I steal a bottle from Charles, go to that spot that you’ve been eyeing, and spend that night there. Just you, me, a stolen bottle of booze, and the sky above.”
“I’d love that.”
“Then it’s a date. I’ll have everything ready before then.”
“I’ll bring the essentials, then.”
“Sounds perfect to me.”
“Great! Now, let’s finish up here and then we’ll get ready for work.”
I nodded, finished getting dressed, and waited for BJ outside. BJ called me in a short while later to help him shave. I completely forgot about his beard, that he knows I hate.
“I forgot all about this monstrosity.”
“I did too, until you left. It’s okay though. Just watch the mustache.”
“I always do.”
I gently held the razor’s handle in my hand and shaved off all of the unwanted, and unnecessary hair. It was surprisingly a lot more intimate than I recalled. After that was over, we headed out to work. Colonel Potter was waiting outside waiting for the both of us. It appeared that he had a couple of sheets of paper in hand.
“Something wrong, Colonel?”
“Just some news for Hawkeye. Do you mind if I borrow him for a few?”
“Not at all.”
“Hawkeye, is this okay with you?”
“Of course.”
I was shaking in my boots, nervous as hell. BJ could tell due to my face.
“I’ll be right here when you get back, I promise.”
I put a hand over his, and walked off with the Colonel.
“Is there something wrong, Colonel?”
“Not exactly. Would you like to leave here?”
“Excuse me?”
“Would you like to leave the 4077th?”
“Like a transfer?”
“More like permanent leave.”
“What?”
“You got your papers, Hawkeye.”
I couldn’t say anything. I couldn’t say anything even if I wanted to. I felt like I was about to faint. I could hear my heart beating on my ears.
“Hawkeye, you can decline this, if you feel like you need to. But, just think about it in the meantime, I won’t sign anything until you’re certain.”
“Thank-thank you.”
I had to get out of there before I lost consciousness entirely. BJ was waiting for me outside, as he promised, and steadied me.
“What happened?”
“I got my papers…”
“WHAT?! That’s great! Isn’t it?”
“Not exactly. I’ll explain after work, okay? I need a distraction.”
“That’s fine. How about over lunch?”
“That’s fine too.”
“Sounds good to me, but don’t feel pressured to, okay?”
“Thank you.”
“Of course, Hawkeye.”
We walked into the O.R together, talked to our patients, did some surgeries, and the usual work. I stepped out after talking to this one soldier who talked about how excited he was to finally go back home, and do all of the things that he dreamt of doing since he got here. I couldn’t relate, but I was happy for him nonetheless. He talked about how he was going to get married, raise a couple of kids, and live the life that he wanted. I felt happy that he knew what he wanted out of life, but I had this nagging feeling that if I were to leave, I wouldn’t have the same advantages that he does. Granted, we’re two extremely different people, but he seemed to have someone waiting for him back home, and I had no one, in the romantic sense that is, and he did. My heart just isn’t in Maine anymore, it’s not in Korea either, it’s with BJ. Lunch was called, and I waited for BJ.
“You okay, Hawkeye?”
“I don’t know. I just talked to a soldier who has entire life figured out.”
“How old is he, Hawkeye?”
“Twenty something.”
“Twenty something, eh? Maybe he’s got it all figured out, but you’re a part of a bigger picture than you think.”
“Then why don’t I feel that way?”
“The stress of it all, I could say, but I’m not Sidney.”
“I should make an appointment with him before I either make the best or worst decision of my life, huh?”
“I’d recommend it. But, if this is our last night together, do you want to bring the red or blue picnic blanket?”
“The blue one.”
“Deal.”
“BJ?”
“Yes?”
“If I stay, would I be making the right decision?”
“If you believe that it is, then yes. But, if you believe the opposite, then no. I can’t tell you how to think, Hawkeye. I can only tell you how to trust your own intuition, and if your intuition is telling you that leaving is for the best, then don’t argue with it.”
“But what if I fuck up completely?”
“Then, you don’t have a choice.”
“I’m torn. Crushed. Screwed completely. If I stay, I’ll be saving lives, being somebody that doesn’t leave when things go south, and I’ll have you.”
“Don’t stay just because of the good, stay because that’s what you truly want to do.”
“And here I thought that you said that you weren’t Sidney.”
“One can try, Hawkeye. But never be.”
“You’ve truly been spending too much time with Father Mulcahy.”
“What can I say? He’s a good teacher.”
For the first time all day, I finally laughed. It felt so good to just laugh again. I finally decided to ask BJ where Chalres was, and his response made me nearly fall over.
“I redecorated his little wine shelf after I stole a bottle of his favorite Merlot. He still thinks he misplaced it.”
“How did you even manage to steal it so quick?”
“I stole it before he woke up, stashed our picnic basket in the medicine supply closet, and said he must’ve misplaced it.”
“Have I ever mentioned how much I love you?”
“Not here recently.”
“I fucking love you, BJ Hunnicutt.”
“Benjamin James, Hawkeye.”
“What?”
“Benjamin James Hunnicutt.”
“We share a first name?”
“We do.”
“Why are you telling me this?”
“If this is our last day together, I’d rather you leave knowing what my name actually was.”
“BJ, that’s the sweetest thing anyone’s ever told me.”
“Hawkeye, you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me. To tell you my name, well, that’s something even Peg didn’t know.”
“You never told Peg?”
“Never.”
I stood there for a moment and stared at the man in front of me. What made me different from Peg? Was it the time we spent together or was it something else? We arrived at the mess tent, grabbed our trays, and sat down with the rest of the group. Margaret looked at me with a smile. I couldn’t help but have a shocked look on my face.
“So, you’re getting your dispatch papers. How do you feel?”
I couldn’t lie to her, but I couldn’t tell her the truth either.
“Oh, y’know, happy.”
“You don’t seem happy, Hawkeye.”
“I’ve just got a lot on my mind.”
Charles looked at me with a knowing look, and nodded. I started eating once again. Lunch went by quick, and BJ and I went back to work. We were quiet, up until our shift was over. Then, it was back to the swamp for a drink. Colonel Potter made an appointment with Sidney for me, which I didn’t even know about, but I think it was the best. BJ and I made it through the rest of the day and most of the next morning with ease, and then it was time for my therapy appointment with Sidney. I didn’t mind the therapy sessions, but I always felt like I took up too much of his time. Sidney greeted me in the O.R. and asked how everything was going
“Oh, fine I suppose. I mean, it is a war after all.”
“True. But, how are you?”
“I’m okay.”
“Are you?”
“I-I don’t really know.”
“And that’s perfectly okay. Given the circumstances that you’re under, I’d feel the same way. Now, let’s talk about why I’m here. I heard that you got your discharge papers. Is that true?”
“It is.”
“You don’t sound excited. Why?”
“Am I doing the right thing?”
“Do you feel like you are?”
“I don’t know.”
“What’s your reasoning, Hawkeye?”
“On the one hand, I’d love to go back home, enjoy my life before all of this happened, and just spend more time with my dad than just some ten minute phone call.”
“But?”
“But then I’d be doing it because I just want to live a simple life without having to wake up every morning wondering if I’m even going to be getting a call from my dad.I wouldn’t be helping those that I promised that I would. I’d leave my friends and BJ behind.”
“You’d be alone and useless,”
“Exactly. And that scares me, Sidney.”
“I understand. Now, I don't understand why you didn’t put BJ in with “friends.” Wanna talk more about that?”
“I don’t know how to put it without getting thrown out.”
“Oh! You two are together.”
“In all kinds of weather.”
“Very funny, Hawkeye. BUt, you would be truly alone again, and BJ would be alone too. You don’t want him to suffer the same way that you did after Trapper left.”
“You’re right.”
“Well, what do you want? Go home, be with your dad again, and have the life that you had back? Or spend time here, day in and day out in misery, but with those who love and appreciate you, even if they can’t show it all the time?”
“I want to stay. I think I’d be doing much more of a service here than back home.”
“Are you confident in that decision?”
“I am, Sidney. I’m needed more here than back home. Sure, seeing my dad would be nice, but that’s all I have waiting for me. Trapper moved on and is doing well on his own, so he doesn’t need me anymore. My dad has Ho-Jon to help him when I can’t be there, which has been proven to be a long time. BJ is finally happy too.”
“Ah, but a substitute for a son is not his son. And, you said that “BJ’s finally happy.” What about you? Are you happy, Hawkeye?”
“I am, believe me. BJ’s just the best and I couldn’t ask for anyone better. As for my dad, you’re right. I’ll be home in due time, but that’s not now.I don’t know when it will be, hopefully soon, but not now. I’m not having much fun with this war or with losing patients, some of which have been my friends, but I’m happy with my friends and…”
“And your boyfriend. Would your dad approve of this relationship? Is that why you’re scared to go back home?”
“I can’t tell you what he’ll think. I mean, Crabapple Cove is a small town. Everyone practically knows everyone, and I don’t know if he’ll approve of me being, y’know, with another man. Especially in that way.”
“You could call and ask him.”
“What would I say? Hi dad, it’s me Benjamin, just so you know, I’m in love with another man. Think you could still love me?” He’d think I was insane.”
“You don’t know that, Hawkeye. You said it yourself, you won’t know what he’ll think until you call. Now, I’m gonna tell Colonel Potter to hold off on those papers a little while longer, until you make that call. If your dad accepts everything, but you still wanna stay, tell the colonel to rip those papers to shreds, but if you change your mind, take the opportunity to go back to what you once knew, once loved, and once dreamed of, okay?”
“Of course, Sidney. Thank you again for seeing me on such short notice.”
“Anytime, Hawkeye. You’re my favorite patient after all. I hope to see you soon, Hawkeye. Or, at least for one last game of poker.”
“You got it Sidney.”
Sidney went to talk to the colonel and I sat down at Rosie’s bar to think some more about the pros and cons of leaving. I knew that this wasn’t going to be an easy decision, but I have to make it myself. BJ, Margaret, Father Mulcahy, Klinger, Charles, and the Colonel came over to my table. I wasn’t expecting any of them, but maybe they could truly help me.
“Come up with any ideas, Hawkeye?”
“Nothing yet, Charles. I have to make a phone call to my dad first thing in the morning.”
“It appears as though you started making a list. What for?”
“I’m debating on if I should leave here or stay here.”
“Haven’t got a clue?”
“Have you?”
Well, if I were in your shoes, I’d leave here.”
“I don’t know, Charles. I mean, leaving here and going home does sound nice, but I’m needed here.”
“I understand. Would anyone else here like to help?”
Klinger raised his hand, and moved closer.
“Well, I’d leave here in an instant. I can’t stand it here. I mean, look around. This place doesn’t exactly scream,”home sweet home! Welcome all to wonderful Korea!” Now does it?”
“No.”
“Exactly. Take the leave.”
“I don’t know.”
“Father, you’re always good at helping people decide, why don’t you try?”
“Okay!”
Father Mulcahy made his way over, and sat down.
“My son, are you happy here?”
“Not really.”
“Do you miss home?”
“A little.”
“What do you miss about it?”
“My dad mainly. There’s also the food, and some other things.”
“Anyone else? A girl back home?”
“No.”
“Then, why would you want to go back?”
“For my dad and to live the simple life.”
“I understand. Hmm, Margaret?”
“I’d say leave. It’s always the same thing. It’s repetitive, annoying, and frankly, tiring.”
“What about you, BJ?”
“I’d say stay.”
Everyone turned silent.
“Hunnicutt, what do you mean by stay?”
“Well, Charles, Hawkeye’s doing a greater service by staying. He’s also helping some of us stay sane.”
“BJ, you better have a good reason for wanting to keep Hawkeye cooped up in this godforsaken place.”
“Colonel, he’s doing a fantastic service her.”
“Forget his service!”
“Okay, well, he always makes light out of dark situations.”
“He’s traumatized!”
“We’ve all got problems, Margaret, he still helps some of us stay sane.”
“I think you’re being cruel, Hunnicutt.”
I kept trying to get a word in, but everyone kept talking over each other. I finally had enough and slammed a whiskey glass down, but not hard enough to break it.
“Everybody shut up! I’ve been trying to say something for the past five minutes and none of you will shut up! This isn’t your life, it’s mine! It’s my decision at the end of the goddamn day! None of you are really helping! No offense Father, you’re probably the only one making an effort. Now, I can understand why almost all of you would want to leave, but I myself just can’t. At least, not right now. Now, I’m going to go to The Swamp and have a few martini’s. I have an early morning, afterall. Oh, and Father, I’m sorry for using the lord’s name in vain.”
“That’s quite alright, my son. You were under a lot of stress, and no one was hearing you out. I’m sorry for not trying harder.”
“It’s not your fault, Father.”
I left the bar after that, and heard BJ’s footsteps behind me.
“I’m sorry for how I acted back there, Hawkeye.”
“It’s okay, BJ. They can’t know. Especially Father Mulcahy.”
“I think we should at least tell him.”
“I think we should.”
The two of us nodded and waited in The Swamp for Father Mulcahy to get back to his quarters. Some time passed, and Father Mulcahy was at his quarters, and we both followed the other. I knocked on Father Mulcahy’s door, and he allowed us in.
“Can I help the two of you?”
“We have something important to tell you.”
“I’m listening.”
“Father, we’re together.”
“As in a couple?”
“Yes.”
“My sons, are you two happy?”
“We are.”
“Hawkeye, can I talk to you alone?”
“Of course.”
BJ nodded and stepped outside.
“Now, Hawkeye-”
“Look, I know it’s wrong to be with another man, but I just couldn’t help it. He just means so muchto me, and I couldn’t let the opportunity slie, and I’m alone again, just like what happened with Trapper, an I-”
“Hawkeye, you’re rambling. I don’t care that you’re with another man, I just want to know if he’s treating you right.”
“He does, Father.”
“Then, I understand why you would want to stay. I’m not going to say anything to anyone else, if you don’t want me to. It’s not my business, afterall.”
“Thank you, Father.”
“You’re welcome, my son.”
I waved “goodbye” and joined BJ outside.
“Did everything go okay?”
“Father Mulcahy approves.”
“That’s fantastic!But, what comes next?”
“He won’t tell another soul.”
“Even better! Have you made a decision?”
“I’ll have to ask my dad. He’ll be more helpful than anything.”
“I understand. Well, let’s go to bed and get some sleep.”
“I can barely keep my eyes open.”
We both somehow made it back to The Swamp. Charles had passed out already, so Bj and I decided to slowly follow him. The morning came quicker than I had expected, so I quickly got dressed and headed to Klinger’s quarters. Luckily, Klinger had my dad on standby, but waited for me.
“Klinger?”
“Hmm?”
“Once this is over, remind me to kiss you.”
“Never on the first date, sir!”
“Just this once?”
“How can I say “no” to a face like that?”
I smiled and Klinger left the room. I breathed deeply, held the phone up to my ear, and talked to my dad.
“Dad?”
“Benjamin?”
“Yeah dad, it’s Benjamin.”
“How are you doing?”
“I’m a little torn, dad. But, I have a big question to ask you.”
“What’s going on, son?”
“Would you still love me if I liked men?”
“What kind of question is that, Ben? Of course I would. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me. I don’t care if you like men, women, both, or neither. As long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters. Now, why are you torn?”
“Dad, you don’t know what that means to me to hear you say that. Well, I don’t know if I should stay here or go home. On the one hand, it would be so nice to see you again, but on the other, I’m doing a world of service here too.”
“And you’ve got someone waiting for you over there too. Son, I know you want to come hom, I want you to come home, but I think it’s best for the both of us, especially your love life, and your career, if you stay in Korea. Besides, I’ll still be around when you come home. Does he treat you well?”
“Incredibly.”
“Are you happy?”
“Extremely.”
“Then stay in Korea.”
“Thank you, dad.”
“That’s what dads are for.”
I stayed on the line with him a little longer to hear about how he’s doing and how the town’s doing. After our time was up, I told him how much I loved and missed him, and he told me that he’ll write to me more often. I had tears in my eyes by the time I put the phone back. Klinger came back in, and handed me a hanky.
“Thank you, Klinger.”
“You’re welcome, Hawkeye. Did you make your decision?”
“I’m staying right where I’m at.”
“I’m glad to hear it.”
“Is the Colonel busy?”
“Nope. Just go right through those doors.”
“Thank you.”
“Oh, and Hawkeye?”
“Yeah?”
“You still owe me that kiss.”
“I’ll give you one once I get back.”
“I’m going to hold you to that.”
“I never break a promise.”
I opened the Colonel’s door, and sat down.
“What’s the verdict,Hawkeye?”
“I’m staying. My dad talked me into it.”
“Really? That’s wonderful news! Glad to still have you here.”
“Thank you, Colonel. I feel like it’ll be nicer this way.”
“Me too. I’ll have those papers shredded by the end of today, and I’ll tell SIdney the good news, too.”
“Sounds great!”
Colonel Potter gave me the go ahead to leave, and I took it. I felt so excited once I left his office that I didn’t know what to do. I checked to make sure that Klinger and I were the only two in the room, and I kissed him quick.
“Hawkeye?”
“Yes?”
“You’re a magnificent kisser. WHoever ends up dating you is one lucky person.”
“Thank you!”
I woke BJ up to tell him the good news, he then woke up Charles. We celebrated, and then decided to tell the rest of the group. Everyone was so happy to have me stay, and I was grateful to have the wonderful friends and boyfriend, ever. The week went by fast, and it was another poker night with Sidney.
“So, Hawkeye?”
“Yes?”
“I hear that you’re staying.Is that true?”
“You know it, SIdney.”
“That’s wonderful news! Congratulations!”
“Thank you. My dad and you really helped.”
“I’m glad that I could help.”
“I’m glad that you could help.”
The night ended with Sidney and BJ both owing me $150. BJ and I went back to The Swamp.
“Hawkeye?”
“Yes?”
“May I kiss you?”
“Is that even a question? Come here.”
I kissed him quick as we headed to The Swamp for our date supplies. We grabbed our supplies for our date that we had been planning for, what felt like forever, and headed off to our destination. We finally found the tree that had the stars scattered in perfect view with the lake’s waves making a wonderful sound to fill the comfortable silence. I decided to put my head on BJ’s shoulder, and he put an arm around me in response. I kissed BJ’s cheek, and then he kissed my lips. The next thing I know, we’re both pulling away for air, with stars in our eyes. We drank the entire bottle of wine and talked about the future, thoughts, dreams, and retirement. It was the best date and night of my life. As our date drew to a close, we headed back to The Swamp to turn in for the night, as we never know what the morning will bring. We decided to share a cot together, for heat reasons, as we put it. I never, in my life, have ever fallen asleep that fast before, or have ever been that comfortable before. I say that staying was the best thing I ever decided on.

I’ve always loved BJ. Even when I was a kid watching M*A*S*H air for the first run in the 70s/80s, it was clear to me that BJ was Hawkeye’s husband and they were beautiful together.
I love what a petty cunt he is.

tbh I want to get high with this person
