sentence structure

vao (verb, actor, object) - ex. moadto ko sa library (i will go to the library) voa (verb, object, actor--- used to place emphasis on the object) - ex. moadto sa library ko (i will go to the library) avo (actor, verb, object--- mostly used in news settings; not conversational) - ex. ako moadto sa library

sa - preposition (in, on, at, of) ug - and (ako ug ikaw) og - connects object and noun, can be used as a/an

Was lucky to grab the last copy of Where the Leaves Fall issue 16 in this shop in the UK. On the cover is Nahia Lloren in a gorgeous pink baru or blouse, photographed by one of my favorite Philippine biodiversity advocates Celine Murillo. She also wrote the article for the magazine.

Nahia is part of Cebu-based Karakoa Productions, a team of pre-colonial/Philippine heritage advocates who conduct workshops online and offline. 

My favorite line in Celine's article is:

"Adorned with the Earth's bounties were our bodies: gold for our limbs, crushed pearls for our skin, vines and root crops for our teeth, the flower essence of Styrax for fragrance, and silk and cotton for our garbs..."

Here's a rough translation I could give you from what I understand of the Bisaya language:

Louthes: Me, give me my salary

Laura: They're the ones who should give me my salary.

Louthes: Nevermind, hey, you don't need it anymore 😜

This was posted when they were claiming that Laura was in prison. So you see, everyone, they were laughing about the whole thing all along. They're probably still laughing now everytime another scam blog gets donation.

Do not believe any of her claims that she's struggling or are short for cash. She just threw a lavish birthday party for her kid. They have a basketball team named after their son. Her partner (who she tried to convince me was estranged from her btw, despite the very obvious evidence to the contrary?) has his cockfighting business. She has relatives and friends who are government officials and have photo-ops with fucking Duterte, the fucking previous president of the Philippines, which is probably where she gets the confidence to keep threatening to sue us despite all the evidence of her own crime lol.

I'm so very sorry to everyone who were manipulated by her. Please keep being wary of future scams that she most likely will try to keep running on here.

"yes, mahal? what is it?" you asked as you ran a hand through his wicks. he chuckled and held you closer, "i'd fancy you teaching me some of your native language, aking sinta." he said as he pressed his chin on your shoulder and hugging you from behind in a loving embrace.

you raised your eyebrows in surprise as his request had taken you aback. "you... want to learn tagalog?" you asked him, and he nodded with a grin. "i figured it was about time i got to learn more about you. i can't just keep myself in the dark about the language you're so familiar with, that'd be suffocating for you, and you know i hate seeing you struggle." he confessed with a small smirk as he hugged you tighter.

"and besides..." he said as he squeezed your cheeks with one hand and slowly, gently turned your head to face him as he was still on your shoulder, "...i'd love to fluster you in many more ways than i'm already way too familiar with in english." he murmured as he nearly brought his nose and lips to touch yours, causing you to gasp slightly at the closeness between you two. "oh, sige." you'd whisper out as hobie chuckles to himself how cute you are when you get all embarrassed.

you soon taught hobie the basics, basic greetings, numbers, questions, answers and all--it went surprisingly well, in your opinion. hobie was an extremely fast learner, especially since he put a lot of focus and effort into learning tagalog for you with you. you couldn't help but chuckle, however, at how his accent clashed with the words.

you found it very endearing, though, how his accent remained a prominent thing despite speaking a foreign language; it was one of hobie's little quirks that you found wonderful, that you fell in love with, too. because how could you possibly not fall for him when he not only looked beautiful--with his piercings, his hair done like that, his height, his complexion, his eyes, fashion sense, personality and all--but sounded beautiful?

"now," hobie began as he looked at you with a smirk. "let me try saying something i've tried learning on my own secretly." he said as he put his hands on yours as he leane din close, his nose brushing against your cheek as his lips touched your earlobe. "i also practiced that rey valera song your parents like so much. i found out what the lyrics meant... and i know, i know that's exactly what i feel for you, aking minamahal." he said as you got all flustered and covered your face as you smiled wider. "tumahimik ka... pero mahal rin kita, okay..."

Went out for a walk yesterday morning after my shift, and these are the stills that I took.

I was friends with one Filipina who was a Bisaya convert married to someone from a Muslim tribe and had 4 children. We met through Tumblr where she had an Islamic blog and we would talk often... but then she left the Philippines, left her husband and children, joined the US military and left Islam. It made me uncomfortable so I cut off contact completely. Last time I checked she became a wannabe influencer in LA, buying followers on Instagram and was selling a p*rnhub t-shirt on Depop. As a Bisaya—speaking Filipino, I am very happy to see this representation in Craig of the Creek. In bisaya, we call bless as amin and I am really loving that. I hope to see more of this in cartoons and shows.

Have you watched Nimona? Whenever she used her wings I couldn’t help but be reminded of Tik-tik from the story “Si Kalipay” by Christina Newhard and Happy Garaje. Tik-tik is Cebuano for a spirit or creature similar to the Tagalog Manananggal, which flies without legs! Hashtag Nimona-nananggal! Here she is in pre-colonial Visayan attire, inspired by a class I attended held by Karakoa Productions based in Cebu. She’s decked out in gold, with kasikas or arm bands, a kamagi chain worn as a sash, a lambong top, a bakus or belt Batman would be jealous of, and a heavy taklay or gold necklace.  I loved how she transformed into different animals in the film, so I imagined her here shapeshifting into different Philippine wildlife, and used different Philippine scripts to write their names. Lots of things going on here, which is how I saw Nimona. No Expiry, a Destiny 2 epistolary long story where a disillusioned Bray Exoscience employee tries and fails to not fall in love with someone whose human days are numbered. Kind of a reflection on loving someone with chronic illness. Rated T.

Away From the Spine, a Dishonored/Transistor crossover short story where Jessamine lives and carves a runesword out of whalebone. Rated T.
