NMTDaily: Hero and Ursula’s Transmedia Accounts Debut
- I don’t think I ever knew that Hero had a transmedia Instagram account. That’s new to me! I’m excited to see what else she posts on it throughout the series.
- I do remember Ursula’s tumblr but I don’t know if I ever scrolled back enough to see the photos in the most recent email before. It’s extremely cute that she includes links to follow “My Friend Hero”, “My Friend Bea”, and “My Friend Ben”. She’s a sweetheart. Ursula deserves the world and so much more appreciation.
- It’s also really interesting that she considers herself friends with Ben before the events of the series happen to combine the two halves of the friend group. It’s probably because she’s best friends with Balthazar and he’s the crossover friend who is close friends with both the girls’ group and the boys’ group. I think it’s very possible that Ben doesn’t fully realize that Ursula thinks of him as a friend and not just an acquaintance because she’s so quiet and it can be hard to know what she’s thinking. Now I’m really interested in what their friendship would be like. They probably wouldn’t hang out one on one, but they would enjoy each other and never quite know how to tell each other that. Which is definitely a type of high school friend experience people have that rings true to me. All from the tiny detail of her linking to his channel on her tumblr. I wonder if he links to her channel on his? I bet he does, I have to look out for that.
- Update: oh my god I just scrolled through Ursula’s tumblr and saw that she posted Ben’s first vlog and mentioned in the tags that she helped him edit it! He “tried to do everything himself” and almost managed it, apparently. That says to me that he was probably complaining about how hard editing was, and Ursula offered to help. And I checked, he thanked her in the video description on that vlog. Ben and Ursula canonically hang out and edit his first video just the two of them???? Excuse me, this changes so many things. I am now obsessed with the Ben and Ursula friendship. This is definitely, for Ben, an example of that thing where social anxiety makes you kind of selfish and unappreciative of the friends you do have, because you dislike yourself so much you never believe they really like you, and then you hold them at arm’s length and never realize that’s literally why you’re so lonely. Ben probably feels like he doesn’t know how to talk to Ursula because Ursula is so quiet, and I bet she can get overwhelmed by him, but also sees that his heart is in the right place. And this makes Ursula yet another friend who has doubtless hung out with Bea and Ben separately and heard them complain about each other, so of course she’s on Team Love Gods. She’s just so dear and eager to help her friends, I love Ursula.
- I am also still sad that Ben never had an in-world Tumblr account I could have followed. It’s not story-necessary, but I’d have liked it.
- I kept thinking the grass was bugs and getting scared, but I still like seeing Ursula’s nature photography. She’s definitely growing up to be a pro videographer/photographer/director/cinematographer or something.
- Ursula also posted a picture of a TARDIS cake she and Hero baked for Bea, which, first, why are there not more Hero and Ursula friendship fluff fics AND Hersula ship fics about them baking together? I love this. They are so cute and sweet.
- Does this cake post mean we have an approximate canonical birthday for Beatrice? Baking a cake for someone feels like a birthday thing. It was posted on March 30, so is Bea’s birthday March 30? This is huge, I don’t think we ever got anyone’s birthday except Hero’s elsewhere in the series! Unless the cake is a belated Welcome to Auckland cake? I haven’t rewatched Bea’s first video yet, I’m terrible, I know, so I don’t remember how long she’s been in town. They didn’t actually say it was her birthday, so it’s probably a Welcome cake. Oh well. Still sweet!
- Also, the tags say the cake is banana cake! So Beatrice already likes Ben’s favorite food, and she’s definitely a huge fan of Doctor Who even though she downplays that to avoid praising anything connected to Benedick. She’s so stubborn, I love her, and they are meant to be. This will not be the last detail indicating how much they have in common and see eye-to-eye. I love all of it.
- I also love that this isn’t the last themed cake to appear! I remember the dalek cake from the pizza party later in the series. Ursula and Hero were hobby bakers and shippers on deck from the start!
- The email with the cake post is titled “putting the Who in superwholock”, which is so incredibly 2014, and also makes me realize that the NMTD characters were really only WhoLocks, none of them were Supernatural fans that I remember. I just find that funny given what a behemoth it was and is on tumblr. I don’t blame them, it’s the one of the three I’ve seen the least of too, it’s just amusing. I actually don’t know if it ever even aired over there, to be fair.
- We also got Bea’s first tweet, in the email with her first video, but it’s pretty simple, nothing to dissect. We get some good tweets later on, though! I promise I’ll make a post about Bea’s first video before the next video email on Wednesday. I’ve decided I don’t have to post recaps day-of, I just want to do them eventually.
- MVP of the past few emails: Ursula! You go, Ursula. Jules 20genderchild is so right that you deserved a last name!!!!

Exploring the Diverse Realms of Commercial Photography
Photography can be an art, but most people buy a camera not only to take a beautiful picture and get likes but to make money from it. This area of photography is called commercial.
For those who are tired of shooting flowers in a flower bed and want to step up to the professional level, we tell you what genres they go into along the way, as well as what a commercial photographer or Professional photographer in Auckland NZ should be able to do.
Types of Commercial Photography
Commercial photography is any shooting where the author receives money for the work. Even a photo for documents can formally be classified as a commercial photo.
It is better to divide commercial photography into two large groups, and then break it down into specific genres.
B2C Commercial Photography
A B2C photo shoot (business-to-client) is a shooting for an ordinary person. The customer is neither a business nor an organization. Mother of a child who has a birthday; a girl who wants beautiful portraits for herself; A young man ordering a love story as an anniversary gift.
It's a niche that's easier to get started with. It is more difficult to reach businesses and brands, you need an extensive high-level portfolio to interest the company and go through all the stages of approval. It's easier with private commercial photography.
B2C Commercial Photography Genres
A report from a holiday or event. Birthday, christening, bachelorette party, party. A sought-after and profitable niche. The easiest way to find customers is in this segment.
Wedding photography. A hard, profitable, and responsible niche, where it is difficult to find a photographer who would like and can approach each shoot creatively. An original style requires experience and time, which is often not available at weddings, as well as the request of the newlyweds because many want "like everyone else". On the other hand, those authors who know how to adapt to the wishes of the client and at the same time express their vision have a price tag far above average.
B2B Commercial Photography
B2B (business-to-business) commercial photography is an organized photo shoot, where the customer is a company, organization, business, or legal entity. Commercial photographers in this niche often do not influence the development of the shoot, and sometimes even other people are engaged in post-processing. Here it is crucial to strictly follow the technical specifications. Now be able to understand the client, adapt to him, and also produce a high-quality result.
The bigger and cooler the company or brand, the higher their requirements. Complex collage is often used in advertising shoots, a commercial photographer must be able to retouch in different techniques, solve complex problems, feel, & be able to work with color. Here in this category, you will find Website Photographers, who will help you with website photography.
B2B Commercial Photography Genres
Commercial photography for small businesses. It's a cross between B2B and B2C. Yes, you take promotional photos for your website, social media, or portfolio, but you work and coordinate everything with one person. For example, a master makes designer dishes from clay and wants to take a beautiful photo of the product, or a make-up artist asks to replenish the portfolio with high-quality photos with deep retouching, and not cloudy selfies on the phone.
Fashion photo. A genre where a commercial photographer shoots clothes. As in the subject, the author can shoot a simple catalog on a plain background, as well as image shootings, on which a huge team of make-up artists, stylists, and decorators works.
On commercial shoots for catalogs, a Commercial Photographer in Auckland needs to be hardy, be able to work quickly with huge volumes of things, and strictly comply with customer's requirements. Some brands think everything through in advance, and only after that, at the very end, choose a photographer who does not have any influence on the process. Others can set the direction, but give the author more freedom than just pressing a button.

The Murder of Grace Millane
Grace Emmie Rose Millane was a 22-year-old British tourist travelling in New Zealand, she had studied advertising and marketing at university. A talented artist, Grace was on a gap year and backpacking around the world.
When Grace failed to reply to birthday messages from her family on 2nd December they became worried, it was unlike Grace not to keep in touch and they contacted the local police in New Zealand. The hotel she had been staying at told officers she had not returned to her room and the investigation was quickly treated as a homicide.
Grace was seen on CCTV in town on 1st December, and was then seen entering the CityLife Hotel on Queen Street with 26-year-old Jesse Shane Kempson, a man she had met on Tinder and agreed to go on a date with. Kempson murdered Grace that night, then the next day purchased a suitcase, put the body inside and left it in a shallow grave in a remote bushland area.
Grace’s murderer claimed she died during consensual sex, a claim which was widely reported along Grace’s online dating profiles, sexual interests, details of what she had drunk and intimate reports of her personal life leading to criticisms of victim blaming and questions over suggestions it was possible for Grace to consent to her death. After strangling Grace, Kempson conducted several Internet searches on how to dispose of bodies and viewed pornography. Intimate photographs were taken of Grace after the killer searched for the Waitakere Ranges and hottest fires in New Zealand suggesting either he had made these searches before the murder and therefore intended to kill Grace and hide her body there or that the photographs were taken post mortem showing his fetishisation of her death. Kempson also continued to go on dates after Grace’s death. He even told one date that there were bodies in Waitakere Ranges and that police could not find them. Kempson also told the same date about a friend he knew who had consensual sex in which he killed a girl by strangling her and went to prison. Prosecutors claimed this was the killers way of testing his defence in advance.
Grace’s body was found in the Waitakere Ranges, West Auckland. Kempson was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. New Zealand laws meant Kempson’s name was initially suppressed however some international media outlets published his name and photographs. The decision not to publish the murderer’s name until after he was found guilty was also been criticised especially due to the media scrutiny of the victim. Kempson was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison. It emerged that Kempson had also been convicted of 9 charges of rape, sexual violation, threatening to kill, and assault in two sexual violence trials in 2020, not of which related to the charges concerning Grace.

I recently moved to Morrinsville, New Zealand, looking for a new beginning in a nice small community that looked friendly and safe.
On December 26th 4 neighbours got into my house while I was in Auckland staying with a few friends for my birthday.
They spend some time in the house, smoked inside, they went through everything, left the place super dirty. They took my Birth certificate, passports (two from different countries) with my New Zealand Visa, my diplomas, all of my foreign currency, my insulin, my freestyle libre (chips and reader), blood control meter and 1000 sticks, a hard drive containing all the photographs I took from 2002 until now, a large amount of them are Raw, and all of the ones I took underwater, my USA social security number and several important documents.
I arrived home the afternoon of my birthday on 27th and realised what happened, call 111 but, it was not an emergency so they told me to call 105 which I did, I was on hold for 40 min and managed to talk to someone.
I was told to wash everything since you do not know what they did with my bed and cloth. They used my debit cards, I called the banks, and started the process of cancelling everything.
The next day a police comes with my backpack and a few of the belongings, like all of the opened and empty boxes of blood test strips, the robbers opened all of them and throw them on the street but, they did not leave anything important.
I posted a comment online and received several private comments from people telling me that the @nzpolice does not have the resources to track the people who did this, apparently @jacindaarden is not sending the appropriate tools and resources to make these crimes stop. There have been a large amount of houses robbed during this week.
We went on an investigation and found the house on where this guys were staying, we called the police but, by the time they went there (several days later) they were gone and my belongings as well.
I am asking @jacindaarden to give @nzpolice the necessary resources to stop these people and also ask her to help me get new documentation and passports, since they took everything I had including the cash I brought to start over again in a “Safe” country.
@JaciindaArden I believe what you said that this country is safe for foreigners, please, make that real.

Simon Devitt
Work - Simon Devitt: Photographer
Simon Vevitt is an internationally famous photographer. He was commissioned to take photos of the Auckland Sky Tower for the 30th birthday anniversary. The top right picture is a bit of a cliche, I plan to stay away from this location when I explore the Sky Tower myself. Night photography is also on of the unfortunate draw backs with shooting with an iPhone, often images just end up very grainy. Plus if you want to close the aperture and get that star burst effect on street lights you need a good lens with lots of metal aperture blades, as far as I'm aware this is impossible with an iPhone ha! A nifty 50 f/1.4 would be great for this.
I love this quote from his about page of his website.
"It’s a question of being somewhere to be knowing when to stay still, sitting on storeys telling stories making gardens, waiting to eat." — Simon Devitt, Ripe Fruit

What you Know
As a result of the object (Cook Island Tivaevae) being too large to bring into class, I have gathered imagery from my sister’s 21st that showcases the Tivaevae in a Cook Island gift giving tradition called O’ora.
To give background - Tivaevae is an artistic quilting art form, done by Polynesian women. The word Tivaevae means ‘patches’ - it refers to bits of material being sewn together. In the Cook Island custom, Tivaevae's are traditionally presented as gifts at weddings, funerals, birthdays etc (this is known as an O’ora) and it is also showcased as decoration for these special occasions.
A photograph I took of my sister and father, overlooking the Matapa Chasm, in Niue Island. I wanted to capture the patterns and design of their back tattoos.
An image of my second year work - re-creating a scene of an ancestors past. This image is a depiction of my grandfather's strength, perseverance and resilience as a young Niuean schoolboy. The main purpose of my design decisions within this environmental portrait was to highlight how my grandfather is in environment surrounded by knowledge, prestige and opportunity, however is focused on something else - his family and nation. It captures the very sense of longing and responsibility that he had to bear back then.
An image of my summer school work - Ko Hai a Koe Poster Design.
The main aspects of this poster design centralises on the ‘struggle Polynesian, New Zealand born children have with making the connection with their culture and language.’
The Ko Hai a Koe poster concept is influenced by the real-life experiences, challenges and authentic voice of Vaine Viviani, growing up as a Niuean, Cook Island, New Zealand born child, living in South Auckland.
It explores the idea of how colonisation, preconceived stereotypes and the negative portrayal of Pacific Islanders through the western lens of society can alienate NZ born Polynesians in terms of embracing cultural identity and language.

love is more thicker than forget (Aidean 1/?)
Pairing: Aidan Turner/Dean O’Gorman Rating: M Warning: Aidan is 17, almost 18. Dean is 24. Summary: Very loosely based off "Call Me By Your Name" AU / Real world timeline (but of course AU) ~ Dean is running away from everything he knows, Aidan is desperately trying to find himself. Both try to find something to hold onto in each other.
March 2001
Dean isn’t sure why he picked Ireland. Maybe it was a subliminal suggestion from a movie or commercial. Maybe it was some deep ancestral calling. Maybe it was just the furthest place he could think of from New Zealand.
Regardless, there he was in Dublin with a shitty studio flat. Trying to escape everything he left in Auckland. His family. His girlfriend. His career.
No, he was pretty sure his career was dead. His agent had told him in not-so-simple words.
“Casting directors are just looking for someone a little more...manly? Masculine? I told you that puff movie was a dense idea. You now have the ‘I’m a queer’ label on your forehead. You know I don’t care, mate, but you just aren’t marketable. You aren’t the cute little dimpled kid you once were. You have to work on your look and your skill too.”
He hadn’t gotten an acting gig in months. He hardly had any money and he wasn’t going to mortify himself further by moving back in with his parents. With the last bit of cash he had, he booked a flight to Dublin. He found a shitty studio flat and moved in with his few bags within the day.
Work came not long after, having been an amateur photographer lend him with enough knowledge to work at an old school photography shop. Many people were moving to digital, but film was his first love. It wasn’t hard to get lost into a routine of waking up, eating, working, eating, sleeping, then repeat.
—-
“Aidan! You have five minutes before I leave this house without you! I have to get to work!”
He knew he had overslept, but he hadn’t thought it was that long. The young dark haired man rushes into questionably clean clothes, brushing his teeth, and staring at his wild messy curls with dismay before gathering his things in his bedroom.
Book bag and dance bag. He grabs a pair of scuffed dance shoes, a clean shirt, and stuffs them into the bag. Slinging both on his shoulders, he rushes down the stairs, moving to slip on the worn Vans trainers as he hops to the door.
He’s met with his mother’s disgruntled stare in the front doorway.
“I’m here, I’m here. Sorry,” he mumbles out breathlessly.
“Car. Now, let’s go.”
His mother was always a domineering woman. She didn’t have the kind softness of other mums he saw on the telly or movies. She wasn’t mean or ever cruel. Determined was the word he liked to think. She was essentially a single mum. His parents having divorced in a time before he could remember them together.
Aidan gets into the car and relaxes for only a brief moment before his mother lets out a sigh as she starts the car and starts driving.
“You’re graduating this year, Aidan. You have to be more responsible. I know school isn’t ‘your thing’ as you’ve so articulately put it, but I would like to just see some effort. I feel like that isn’t too hard to ask, your brother-“
“Your brother wasn’t a good student either, but look at him now, he’s going to be a stuffy and amazing taxman,” he mimics his mother’s voice looking at her. “I don’t want to be a tax man or an accountant. I’m not you two.”
“So you would rather be an electrician like Pat?” She raises her brow.
“No, I mean I don’t know. I just know I can’t be in a stuffy room all day,” He sighs nervously twisting a curl.
“I wish you would consider dancing more competitively. Are you sure you want to quit after this season?” Her voice softens looking at him for a moment before looking back at the road.
“Yeah, mum. It’s too expensive. You need to save all that money for when I inevitably decide to become an accountant and follow in the family legacy,” He teases as she slows down at the front of his school.
His mother chuckles softly before leaning over to kiss his cheek. “You need me to pick you up from the dance studio after I get off work?”
“No, I can walk. Ta.” He grabs his bags and gets out.
“I love you, Aid. You know that, right?” She smiles warmly at him.
“I know. Love you too, mum. Bye.” He smiles back before shutting the car door and heading into the building.

With working the job at the photography shop gives Dean new opportunity to pursue that passion that was once just merely a hobby he used to connect with his father. He advertises some as a photographer and gets lucky with a few gigs.
He photographs engagements, birthdays, advertisements, and even art which is more pro bono than anything.
He is reading in his flat when he gets the phone call.
“Hi, is this Mr. O’Gorman? The photographer?” It’s a woman’s voice and he’s instantly filled with a giddy excitement.
“Yes, hi, this is he, Dean. I am Dean, I mean. Sorry. How can I help you?” He grins babbling while trying to sound professional.
“My name is Mairead Dunne, I own a small dance studio right outside Dublin. I’m really wanting to get some promotional material out for the studio and build some of my dancers’ portfolios. I saw your ad while I was out and about, I don’t know what your rate is but I was hoping we could work something out?”
At this point, Dean was sure he would agree to just a warm non-frozen microwaved meal and a tank of gas. They discuss a price that Dean is more than appreciative of and they schedule a shoot later that week. He’s told to not just focus on the studio itself, but to highlight the talents and skills of the dancers there.
The next week he feels the best since he’s left Auckland. He feels like for once that maybe things are turning around and going his way.

Aidan arrives at his dance practice. Naturally about ten minutes late. He rushes in and pulls the headphones attached to a CD player off his head as he tries to sneak in and into the dressing area unnoticed.
“Aidan, so lovely for you to grace us with your presence.”
He winces slightly at the voice and shyly turns not looking up from the floor.
“Sorry, Miss Dunne. I was running late after-”
“Ah, ah! Go get changed, we have a guest today!”
He chooses that moment to look up and standing past her is a younger blond man talking to some of the dancers a camera in his hand.
For the briefest of moments their eyes make contact, Aidan pulling away first and heading to the dressing room. He changes into his practice clothes and his scuffed practice shoes.
He comes out and Mairead lets them know that this photographer, “Dean,” he insists, will be taking promotional photos for the studio. Aidan feels suddenly underdressed and a bit self-conscious with a stranger in what he mentally considers a sacred private place.
He’s paired up with his partner Catrin, a small blonde woman who is a year or so older than himself. Their next competition was to be in a week, the two finalizing their three competition pieces. A tango, a foxtrot, and an open Latin.
Aidan stretches and warms up as others practices. The photographer deftly moving around the room and taking photos. He gets in the way a few times of the dancers warming up, several bumping him out of the way as a silent warning.
When it is Aidan and his partner are ready to practice performing, he tries to tell himself to ignore the soft shutters of the camera and the person behind the lens. They settle on practicing the tango first.
The music is slower and their moves are less quick and more deliberate, Aidan knowing these must be some decent photos in comparison to the previously quicker dances of some of the others.
He turns and moves Catrin in a slow and sensual manner. The dance having been embarrassing when he first learned it, but Mairead would remind him that dancing was 30% skill and 70% acting. He could act, he knew that.
He told himself in his head that Catrin was his unrequited lover and he was always trying to win her back. He moves his hand over her slender hip and look up over his dark brows, making accidental eye contact with the photographer again.
The photographer that is standing agape, his camera in his hand and not at his face. Aidan freezes for a moment, nearly missing his next cue before Catrin pulls him back in and the dance is soon finished.
Aidan breathes a little heavy as the rest of the dancers cheer politely, the photographer letting his camera hang from his neck as he also claps smiling in Aidan’s direction. He flushes a little and bows his head humbly moving off the main floor with Catrin who pats his arm.
“You better not get that stage shocked next week or I’ll personally neuter you,” Catrin whispers in jest, though he knows it’s a real warning.
“I won’t, I won’t,” he mumbles under his breath as they go back to practicing on the side floors.
When their practice winds down later that night, he changes in the dressing room and gets back into his normal street clothes. He puts his headphones over his neck and grabs his duffel bag, heading out of the room.
He tries to slip out unnoticed, a lot of the girls swarming around the photographer and he thinks he’s made a clean escape until he walks out of the studio and voice calls from behind him.
“Hey! Wait up!”
Aidan turns to see the smiling photographer breathlessly following after him out the door.
“Aidan, right?”
The younger wordlessly nods and slides down his headphones.
“Um, I’m Dean. I just had to let you know how incredible of a dancer you are. I got some really nice pictures, I was wondering if you would want copies? I know your instructor would be getting them, but I just wanted to make sure you could get them too if you wanted them,” He nervously babbles a bit, with a dimpled smile still on his face.
Aidan politely smiles back with a nod, “Yeah, I would like that. Thanks.”
Dean grins and rifles through his pocket and hands him a business card for a photography shop.
“I work here and if you’re free, maybe sometime tomorrow afternoon or anytime this week really, I’ll be there and I can give them to you,” he smiles as Aidan looks over the card before pocketing it himself.
“Yeah, sure. Ta,” he nods in his directions with a nervous little smile.
“Yeah, no, of course. Um, I’ll see you around?” Dean says walking backwards toward the studio.
Aidan nods, flashing a small smile.
“Yeah, I’ll see you around. Bye,” he awkwardly waves and flips his headphones on turns back to his path back to his home.
Dean stands at the door, watching him as he walks away, his stomach flitting in a giddy nervousness. Once he’s out of sight, he heads back into the studio.
