Morning bath time with these two lovebirds. They got on each other’s nerves at first but have been inseparable and even influencing each other’s behaviors and always getting into trouble 😅 I’m sure you guy can imagine how challenging it’s been. My mood kind of changed when I injured my knee and haven’t been that inspired to create content and as soon as I was able to get up again (after 2.5 months bed ridden), I went straight to work on everything kind of all at once feeling a need to catch up. I’m slowly getting back into a better mental space now that I’m more mobile and will start sharing all that I’ve been up to soon enough. Thanks @negusmawon for reaching out and checking up on me 🙏🏾 ・・・ #growninhaiti #Solidarity #birdsofhaiti #hispaniolanparakeet #mentalhealth #overcomingchallenges #haiti #ayiti #growth #selfcare https://www.instagram.com/p/CYZFQZgOStk/?utm_medium=tumblr

Spent the morning nursing this injured humming bird back to health. She unfortunately had a tight string wrapped around her leg but she is back up and responsive. Definitely grateful to be present for moments like these. ・・・ #growninhaiti #nurtureyournature #hummingbird #birdsofhaiti #ayiti #haiti #rescue #laboroflove #trust #biodiversity https://www.instagram.com/p/CVQZM6sls8Z/?utm_medium=tumblr

Did you know that hummingbirds recognize and remember people? Those living in my forest has gotten quite accustomed to just flying up to our faces to say hello. They definitely know how to make you feel apart of the forest family. ・・・ #growninhaiti #Hummingbird #friendly #forestfriends #foodforest #biodiversity #ecosystem #organic #haiti #ayiti #naturephotography #birdsofhaiti #agroforestry #nurtureyournature https://www.instagram.com/p/CK9H2jtFmgF/?igshid=zuz1bj56v0s1

Ever since adding a second pond, we started noticing even more birds than ever before! This is our very first time spotting a Green Heron (Butorides virescens). The Green Heron is one of the world’s few tool-using bird species. It often creates fishing lures with bread crusts, insects, and feathers, dropping them on the surface of the water to entice small fish. ・・・ #growninhaiti #greenheron #Butoridesvirescens #birdwatching #birdsofhaiti #birdsofhispaniola #foodforest #biodiversity #haiti #ayiti #nurtureyournature https://www.instagram.com/p/COc_ia2FykW/?igshid=15y990o67p9jo

According to the book, “Birds of Dominican Republic and Haiti,” last recorded siting of a Limpkin (Aramus guarauna) was in the year 2000. Not only are there plenty nesting in my area but a couple have recently taken residence in our food forest. Just a reminder that it’s never to late to protect and support the vast biodiversity that exists in this beautiful country. This alone should be enough motivation for us all to nurture the nature that we are apart of instead of destroying it out of convenience. ・・・ #growninhaiti #Limpkin #aramusguarauna #haiti #ayiti #threatened #biodiversity #birdsofhaiti #reforestation #nurtureyournature #birdwatching #rare (at Haiti) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJLewNEl1q_/?igshid=1cslr77dlauj2

Oh! And we also have new nugget sized additions to our family. One of Tucks girlfriends who we named, Girlfriend 😅. No one knows who she belongs to but she’s been living in our yard for some months now and seems quite at home. I’m not complaining 🏾‍♂️ p.s. these birds are considered jungle fowl who fly and roost in trees unlike domesticated “chickens.” Sadly, the powers that be are trying to eradicate them so that we grow a dependency on foreign, cloned, chicken parts. You can fight this by simply not consuming that inflated faked stuff and supporting those who raise jungle fowl instead or even raise some yourself 👨🏾‍🌾 ・・・ #growninhaiti #Chicks #nuggests #girlfriend #hen #junglefowl #haiti #ayiti #birdsofhaiti #preservation #supportlocal #localization #locallysupplied #countrypride #saveyourself #dontbuyintothehype (at Haiti) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJLjumEFO1F/?igshid=1steolzn3y5pi

Love how many of these guys call our forest home. Todies are one of the many beauties endemic to these islands. Now that we’ve confirmed that bird baths are appreciated in our forest, we plan on adding a few more water features to welcome even more life into our forest ❤️ ・・・ #growninhaiti #Bananaquit #birdbath #haiti #ayiti #wildlife #naturelover #reforestation #biodiversity #foodforest #growth #birdsofhaiti (at Haiti) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJLghetlFec/?igshid=1m26hnbv7j2b5

Patience eventually pays off. Decided to dust off my camera after so many mornings spent with this nesting hummingbird. The eggs are now finally hatched and two hungry little beaks are peaking out. Not over harvesting and leaving some for the wild life is one of the most beneficial things you can do in your food forests. The yard is littered with cotton laced nests. Everyone from hummingbirds to these Hispaniolan Orioles use it. Sharing is caring. Plus, they’re some of my best helpers when it comes to spreading seeds. I want them visiting my yard as often as possible as they will probably end up planting way more then I could ever. Go team go! ・・・ #growninhaiti #hispaniolanoriole #cotton #IcterusDominicensis #sharingiscaring #birdsofhaiti #fauna #biodiversity #teamwork #planters #agroforestry #sustainability #selfsustaining #foodforest #reforestation #preservation https://www.instagram.com/p/B9J5y-VlDBl/?igshid=1j9w9k748vmf4

You know, I used to frown when my neighbors planted so much corn.... but I now found a reason to smile because of it. Corn season means dozens of parrots flying overhead! Hoping more will join our flock and make their home in our forest like many of the other critters have. I get the biggest smile on my face hearing their call coming from the distance 😁 ・・・ #growninhaiti #corn #parrots #balance #reasontosmile #haiti #ayiti #fauna #birdsofhaiti #mountainlife https://www.instagram.com/p/B_uUZE_lVRu/?igshid=c0bywgdiz4ix

The American kestrel (Falco sparverius) is the smallest and most common falcon in North America. It also ranges to South America, and is a well-established species that has evolved seventeen subspecies adapted to different environments and habitats throughout the Americas. The American kestrel usually hunts in energy-conserving fashion by perching and scanning the ground for prey to ambush, though it also hunts from the air. It sometimes hovers in the air with rapid wing beats while homing in on prey. Its diet typically consists of grasshoppers and other insects, lizards, mice, and small birds (e.g. sparrows). This broad diet has contributed to its wide success as a species. It nests in cavities in trees, cliffs, buildings, and other structures. The female lays three to seven eggs, which both sexes help to incubate. ・・・ #growninhaiti #AmericanKestrel #falcon #FalcoSparverius #perched #hunter #haiti #ayiti #birdsofhaiti #birdsofprey #biodiversity #agroforestry #reforestation #fauna https://www.instagram.com/p/B9WoAhYl9HR/?igshid=1sh0nvecg538q
