As a multi-shipping bisexual person who has been crying tears of joy for the past two episodes over the bi-buck story arc - I need you all to know that the weirder you guys are about it (and let's be real right now, you guys are being INCREDIBLY weird about it), the more uncomfortable I, an actual real life queer person, get with Buddie.

I genuinely love Buddie, one of my all time favorite fics across any fandom is "My Fingerprints Smeared on Your Heart", but I'm very hesitant to believe it will ever happen. So when ABC brings in Tommy and starts a VERY WELL WRITTEN and BEAUTIFUL queer story that UPLIFTS MY HEART and then I go into fan spaces to see people trashing on BuckTommy, or screaming "no Buck thats the wrong guy", or wanting the relationship to end with Buck cheating (which is incredibly biphobic btw) with Eddie, or implying/hoping that Tommy is an abuser that Buck can be saved from by Eddie, or any of the countless other scenarios that turn Buck's happily-and-safely-exploring-his-sexuality arc into small-or-traumatic plot point for the purpose of making Buddie canon it makes me feel deeply uncomfortable with Buddie and my fellow 911 fans. And that makes me sad, because I love fan spaces and I love interacting with people who like the same things as me!

Also, please learn the difference between queerbaiting and queer coding.

what's your take on (usually cis but not always) lesbians not wanting to date bisexuals? I never really understood that. I feel like a lot of the reasoning presents as biphobic, plus most of the people I ask shoot me down and call me inherently lesbophobic for not understanding, so I'm not sure how to feel about it

it's really just bullshit and i'm glad you decided to ask!

this behavior definitely has its roots in lesbian separatism. there was a push in lesbian spaces in i want to say the late 80's to early 90's to remove anyone who wasn't a "Woman Loving Woman". they started kicking anyone out who associated with men at all. they also started kicking out butches who were "too butch", trans men, and any other men and mascs who may have attended the space. and they started inventing all kinds of weird words like Womyn and asserting that women and lesbians were superior to everyone else.

it got really out of control. during that time it was really common for lesbians to reject bisexual women, especially if they had ever slept with a man. for. whatever reason. i don't know if they think they get guy cooties by proxy or what, but they were so staunch about it that they would just. refuse to interact with you if you even had friends who were men. it got that bad. they were kicking out bisexual women and people because they were tainted now, or whatever. a bisexual woman was no longer pure or whatever the hell. lesbians and their partners had to be STRICTLY Womyn Loving Womyn or else they don't belong in lesbian spaces. they became SUPER pushy about it being for lesbians ONLY and NOT those "gross filthy bisexuals".

that's why we're seeing this now. we're seeing a resurgence of this rhetoric in real time. radfems are now what the lesbian separatists were back then. same group of people, different name. they change hats every few decades but their politics stay the same. it's dumb as bricks because if you ask me, you're not entitled to know who your partner has been with before they got together with you. you don't need to know that. and it doesn't change anything about you if your partner chooses to date or sleep with multiple genders. it's just petty. they would act like that person was a man now just because they associated with men and would treat them like an icky parasite. it's seriously just unreal how these people think and act. and it's still normalized in lesbian culture to this day

bisexuals can be in lesbian relationships. bisexuals can be lesbians. lesbians can date bisexuals. the world will not come grinding to a halt if a lesbian marries a woman who has slept with men. that doesn't make that person "tainted". people gotta stop with this weird culty bullshit. we're not treating people as individuals anymore. it's gross.

Couple of things. Regarding previous anon and being disappointed in Lou's comments, I'm not seeing what people are taking offense. He doesn't say that he is better at playing a gay character because he and OS are so masculine (and presumably straight). My interpretation of his words boil down to this:

When the audience see a man and a women close together on the screen, they assume sexual tension so no surprise when they kiss. When they see two guys that they KNOW are gay, they make the same assumptions. The fact the both he and Buck were presumably straight, it was a surprise because the audience didn't see what was coming until it happened. And that's it. And the use of the term "masculine" doesn't mean that gay guys aren't masculine. It just refers to how certain people perceive certain characteristics. Lou also goes on to talk about hugging male friends and kissing them on the cheek so he's very much about challenging notions of traditional masculinity. I feel like we are so used to assuming the worst of people particularly when only interacting virtually.

In contrast, OS did in fact say that he wants Buck to fuck around 1.0 style all the while forgetting that we didn't in fact LIKE Buck 1.0 until he started dating Abby. Buck 1.0 was an asshole who only got a bit of a pass because he was young and damaged. A return to that from a guy pushing middle age will be just pathetic. One last note, the break up would have been more honest if it came from Buck since clearly Tommy is looking for love and Buck/OS is looking to screw around some more. Honestly that's how I interpreted Lou's comments as well. His wording could have been better and I am disappointed in HOW he said it, but I didn't particularly see anything offensive. That said, I'm not gay. Even though I don't see his comments as offensive, that doesn't mean someone who is actually gay wouldn't find it offensive.

As I've mentioned though, I am bi and Oliver's comments were offensive. I truly don't understand why certain people can't grasp that fact. I don't think he needs to be shunned or anything, but his comments were very offensive ESPECIALLY after saying he didn't want to play into bisexual stereotypes. And I agree, a return to that phase in Buck's life would be another example of poor writing. In the real world, a person Buck's age could sleep around as much as he wants with whoever he wants. But in a fictional show that will never be able to go on forever? It's time for him to finally settle down with someone. AND that's another reason why the comments are so hurtful. These are fictional characters who often give real people the opportunity to explore themselves. So to be showing us that a relationship with a newly out bisexual person can't work because they have to sleep around first and really experience being bi is just so cruel to the people who may have discovered their own bisexuality because of this storyline.

i've been in the Wicked fandom for, basically, a hot second at most, and already i am extremely fucking tired of some nonsense i'm seeing-

-pitting glinda and fiyero against each other/comparing them in a way that's about saying one is better (as opposed to comparing them in a character analysis/literary analysis way which is obviously great and fun)

i don't think the whole bi vs gay mike truthers thing needs to be a thing. like i dont get why it was ever as controversial as it was. you can very much interpret the first few seasons of stranger things through the lens that mike wheeler did in fact have a crush on el. or, you can support the theory that neither of them had a crush on each other, but mike felt a sort of comp-het impulse to have a crush on el. whichever theory you support is fine.

but, (if you believe this) just because mike never had a crush on el doesn't mean he can't be bisexual, mike could very well be gay as well & only experience attraction to men, but honestly, who cares! i don't think we need to force a label onto mike if the show doesn't want to give him one (yet, if they do in s5, i will update this).

being a bi mike truther doesn't erase mike's obvious queerness, & being a gay mike truther doesn't make you biphobic. it's just not how it works. at the end of the day, mike wheeler is queer in some way shape or form whether he chooses to identify as gay, bisexual, unlabeled, or whatever the fuck he wants.

i'm learning different styles of literary theory & criticism in my english classes right now, & i think something that they said in the class about criticism & theory about writing (& various forms of media, it doesn't just have to apply to writing) is that criticism & theory helps us see stories & interpret things in an infinite number of ways, & i think that's really nice. the only problem is when people start declaring their theories as true.

i've fallen into this, i'm sure a lot of bylers have, into the over analysis train. as much as i love theorizing about byler, looking at the cinematography & writing & editing & lighting & whatever, at the end of the day, we're all just theorizing based on the evidence that is presented to us. just because a light shines on will doesn't necessarily mean that mike sees him as his sunshine & true love, but we can definitely theorize that that's what it means! & after byler is confirmed canon in s5, (or god forbid it's not), we can finally have a resting answer to our theories. but again, a story is a story, you can still have theories about it even if the show is over.

it's your choice whether or not you want bi/gay mike truthers to interact with your page, it's your social media experience & you should be able to tailor it to how you see fit. the only thing i get upset about is the fighting over it. i just think the whole super heated debate about it is a bit silly.

I consider myself a bi lesbian because I am also into trans folks of any gender (transmasc, non-binary, transfemme, etc) I am technically an AFAB femme lesbian but I am taking testosterone to lower my voice, as that gives me immense gender euphoria. I am not a man, though. It is very hard to explain. Because the relationship with my gender is not really explained by any particular binary and doesn’t fit the gender of my birth, I consider myself transgender. I loveeee t4t stuff, so you may see some of that here as well.

see, a lot of my thoughts surrounding these two would kind of spoil my own AU that i never make stuff for so im usually somewhat hesitant to talk about them but basically., (toxic!fh mention)

post-evo divorced property police is so real. ive always imagined it as a childhood friends situation, with martyn being a bit older than jimmy.

they probably caught feelings for eachother fairly late and already well into teenhood but neither of them were really sure what it was (this is maybe going a little bit into sexuality hc territory but ive always imagined jimmy as whatever the male equivalent of a useless lesbian is and martyns biphobic towards himself lmao).

i touched on this briefly in that one fic i wrote but i've always headcanoned martyn as being somewhat parentified and thus ties his worthiness to be loved into his ability to perform acts of service for someone rather than just.. existing and letting himself be loved.

so as jimmy became more independent, martyn becomes a bit more insecure about their friendship. this becomes a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy as he distances himself from jimmy, feeling like jimmy wouldn't love him if he didn't Need him, and jimmy in return feels confused and hurt as he helplessly watches someone he knew all his life drift away.

that + jimmy has this not-so-subtle crush on scott that martyn's always suspected. he's a jealous bitch.

we had a clown to clown communication moment i think cus I also love the idea of them splitting up and meeting in Third Life years and years later (altho i like to imagine it as more of a voluntary separation).

Now reuniting in 3L as fully grown adults after years apart, all those suppressed emotions come bubbling back up to the surface. An adult Martyn is much less unsure about what he's feeling and Jimmy still has those fantasies of what could have been playing on loop in his head. Of course, Jimmy is still attached to Scott and can't abandon his Bethrothed. He loves and knows what's best for him, he would sooner die than forsake his loyalty. But it does hurt when he hits him. Martyn still cares for Jimmy deeply, whether he wants to or not. He takes the time to keep an eye out for him, even though they had no real reason to interact anymore. He becomes one of the only people to realise what Scott was like with him, how devoid of love it all was. He throws out a line, offers to help him run away. Jimmy refuses. Betrayal. A second time. For the same man. Who cares about Jimmy anyway? (he always did take me for granted)

(a little note here before anyone sets me on fire - time works a bit differently in my writing and the players don't have exact ages but jimmy and martyn's age gap is probably not as dramatic as their cc counterparts)

(it's still there but neither of them even recognise their feelings as remotely romantic until they reunite as adults, as kids it's all just them being silly and having grade school drama with each other)

In previous seasons I thought that people who were die hard in their belief that buddie was going to happen (buddie truthers I think they like to call themselves) were setting themselves up to be disappointed every season, now I think that they're still doing that, but are also downright mean towards people who like the canon relationship Buck is in and would like to see it develop further. Just today I unfollowed a long term mutual of mine cause they reblogged the screenrant article with the tags 'bt bones' and I just have no interest seeing malicious glee on my dashboard if they do break up (which I'm not expecting but still, you never know).

mm yeah. i'm sorry about that moot, but it has been the vibe around here the last however many months i guess.
