They’re paints. It’s all about reputation, and Profits’ side of the family has the bigger name and more money. If she simply divorced him, she’d more or less lose her status and reputation. Even if she reported what Profits was doing to Slate, that family would have had the money to sweep it all under a rug, so she needed something DRASTIC.

This may be my own thought process but Spinel has this "user" aura to her character. She may just find a wealthier guy to be her sugar daddy and leave you in the dust. Poetic justice if you think about it.
