Spoilers for season 4, episodes 1-3 of The Chosen below the cut

Holy crap. I knew it was going to be painful, but I didn't know it was going to be THAT painful. St. John the Baptist's death was masterfully done, weaving in his naming with his death, his comment about how he was going to a wedding feast, and him seeing a lamb (foreshadowing much? lol) right before he was killed. Andrew and Jesus's grief was also so, so beautiful. The scene with them breaking out in laughter as they eat the awful bread and Andrew immediately wondering if it was okay to be laughing, and Jesus's words about how in times of grief, our emotions are in their most raw state, brought me to my knees. I've been there with grief, giggling hysterically one minute and shattered and sobbing the next. I knew logically that there's no wrong way to grieve, but hearing *Jesus* say it? Even just tv Jesus? That soothed something deep inside me.

As for the wow moments, Simon being named Peter and his subsequent stepping more fully into a position of leadership, including making the choice to forgive Matthew? Wow. It was something I didn't know I needed to see, but once I did, it was beyond compare. That, Gaius's softening towards Jesus, and all the healing and miracles and the sacrifices people made to follow Jesus absolutely blew me away. I literally don't know how they're going to top this.

Given what happened to Ramah, I imagine grief is going to continue to take center stage for the rest of this season. Probably next season, too, if my suspicion that next season is going to be the Passion narrative is correct. But oh, Ramah...her loss was so sudden, yet beautifully foreshadowed. I'm not surprised she died because I knew they'd have to do away with her character somehow, but that didn't prepare me for how raw and real everyone's grief over her was going to be. I'm both desperate for and dreading the next crop of episodes. I don't know how I'm going to survive this!

Whew, there are my first thoughts on all of this. I'll probably say something more educated and meditative on this at some point, but I had to get my raw, honest reaction out while it was still fresh. If you've read this far, come scream with me in the notes!!!
