Your timeline of V&D was great! What is V&J's?

Well, the best we know they met in Feb 2012 during NYC Fashion Week. 📸

She was 17 and he was... not. 🙃

No idea if they developed "a friendship" right away or if this was just an eager fangirly pic sesh thing, but the next proof of them "hanging out" came in Sept 2013, again at a fashion event in NYC when he showed her cat videos on Youtube or some such surely innocent shit. 🧐📱

After that, the next sightings came in the spring of 2014 when things REALLY kicked off and during that spring and summer she started spending time with him in LA and he lugged her with him to San Fran and on tour across Europe and the Med vacay and also the US during the Carnivores tour.

They kept it going hot and heavy/on and off (even tho he had some side quests too... 🙄) throughout 2015...

... as well as 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. 👫

They spent one Christmas together up in Seattle...

... and she had a really exciting time at Camp Mars. 😛

Then came June 2019 when they were snapped looking über-domesticated in LA...

... but right after this something went horribly wrong and they broke up. 💔

VK escaped LA and spent that entire summer with Mads & co in NYC and the Med, and suddenly decided she needs a dog in her life and thus Cosma happened! 🐶

Not at all a bandaid for her broken heart or anything... 🙃🩹

But there was light at the end of the tunnel tho because in December 2019 VK and her son moved to LA, and bing bang boom along came New Years and suddenly the lovebirds were sneaking off to Kauai! 🏖

And then came the Joshua Tree couples retreat with Stevie and the missus, Reedy and the missus, and spinsters GFlo and Eiza, and suddenly VK wasn't a dirty little secret anymore! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Suddenly she was allowed to pose in photos with the whole group AND get tagged in photos too which had never happened before! 🤷🏼‍♀️

If you ask me, the reason why JL was able to get her back is by promising to make some easements to his hysterical rules about showing and linking her into his life... 🫠

And then just weeks after that Covid came crashing down on us, and VK moved into Casa Craphole (but for some reason Cosma wasn't as lucky... 🤔) and they kept vacaying in Malibu and national parks and all sorts of places during the summer/fall of 2020.

In the spring of 2021 JL left for Italy to film HoG, and that sadly marked the beginning of the end... 😟

VK stayed in Nevada (ODDLY WITH COSMA THIS TIME! 🤔) and when JL returned from Italy in April he flew straight to NYC and VK followed a couple of days later, and I guess this is when shit really hit the fan and they ended up calling it quits for good. 💔🤷🏼‍♀️

Hair by Raymond McLauren and makeup by Alexandra Kwiatkowski.

First up, the Italian-American songstress sports a brown version of the impeccable Mongolian lamb fur coat seen on Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall/Winter 2008 runway.

Underneath she wore the nude bra and briefs with contrast black trim that belong to A.F. Vandevorst’s “Nightfall” 2008 lingerie collection.

As in jewelry, Gaga rocks a silver chain earring by Bing Bang NYC and a black enamel camelia-shaped cocktail ring by Chanel.

Last but definitely not least, the look was completed with a slightly higher version of these Manolo Blahnik suede and mink sandals.

10. What work was the quickest to write?

i banged out basically all of my shorter drabbles in one sitting with minimal looking back, so probably one of those 🤣 but five minutes and love the way you wear that also came out super quickly! i actually wrote five minutes entirely on a plane/in an airport so..... lmfaoooo

11. What work took you the longest to write?

well the obvious answer is LDOMLT 😵‍💫 i plotted the thing back in april (april!!) and i cannot manage to post more than one chapter a month just because of how much concentrated effort it takes to put each part together. i think only @haliiimede and @monimonimoon know how much i stress about every little thing down to.... quite literally the tiniest details that probably none of y'all care about 💀 but i'm a PERFECTIONIST 🔪

the other longest-in-progress work i have is still not fucking written sfhidurgkjfg but i have had a taehyung strangers to lovers oneshot set in nyc outlined since fucking MAY 👹 ..... my goal is to write it and post it (belatedly) for his birthday so 🥺 look for it in like... january ???

Ootz Ootz: Disco in a Nutshell

Disco emerged in the late 1960s and early 1970s in the NYC and Philadelphia nightlife scene. Its sound includes four-on-the-floor beats, syncopated basslines, string sections, horns, electric piano, synthesizers, and electric rhythm guitars. Disco started as a mixture of music from venues popular with Italian Americans, Hispanic, Latino, and African Americans. This music scene itself produced popular groups such as ABBA, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Bee Gees, Chaka Khan, and Michael Jackson to name a few. Films such as Saturday Night Fever and Thank God It’s Friday have also contributed to the mainstream popularity of disco. The groups I, however, would like to highlight in this post are ABBA and The Bee Gees.

ABBA is a Swedish pop group from Stockholm made up by the members: Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad (who were two married couples), with the name of the group being an acronym of the first letters of their first names. They have had forty-eight hit singles including “Dancing Queen” and “Waterloo”, which won them the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. 

“Dancing Queen” is still a song that is widely listened to today. I mean shit, I remember singing along to it and recording it on the day of my seventeenth birthday, as was a popular trend to do back in high school. The song itself is beautifully produced as it gives off a catchy and euphoric vibe, perfect for describing the life of someone young and carefree. The record starts off with a bang, which catapults you straight into the middle of the chorus. This appears to show an explosive opening to draw in listeners to the rest of the song, a smart move I may add.This song narrates the story of a seventeen-year-old girl on a nightclub dance floor that is lost in the music and dancing due to her feeling of carefreeness and freedom to express herself. The song has stayed trendy through the musical Mamma Mia!, which even I’ll admit to binging a few times.

This brings me to The Bee Gees aka The Disco Kings. The Bee Gees were a music group formed in 1958, featuring brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb, who were especially successful in the late 1960s and early 1970s aka the disco era. The group sang in three-part tight harmonies with Robin's clear vibrato leading vocals being prominent in the early hits, while Barry's R&B falsetto became their signature sound during the mid- to late 1970s and 1980s. The Bee Gees have sold over 120 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling artists of all time. 

My two favorite songs by The Bee Gees would have to be “Stayin’ Alive” and “You Should Be Dancing”. “Stayin’ Alive” wasn’t even meant to be a single until it appeared in the Saturday Night Fever trailer, but I’m so glad it was. The song itself represents the hardships in life and the struggle to survive in New York, which can be clearly demonstrated by the way Barry walks his walk. The vocals are an electric-shocked falsetto yip, with a squeal of pain, and becomes a terror-like screech after the second chorus. Coincidentally, this song wouldn’t have become structured the way it was without some things occurring by chance, such as the drummer not being able to record due to personal circumstances, which caused the band to use his old drum recordings. The looped-up drums, combined with that perfectly wormy bassline, help make “Stayin’ Alive” such a fundamental song in the disco era. 

Disco has cemented its legacy in music, inspiring hip-hop artists and even rave culture and house music, two popular sounds in recent years. Disco has been a huge part of my life, something you probably would not expect and it allowed me to explore different genres that originated from it.

Daredevil 101: The Murdock Papers, Part 2

Bendis is going out with a bang, y’all! This is the back half of “The Murdock Papers” (DD v2 76-81), Bendis/Maleev. In Part 1, Matt and Elektra were on the hunt for the titular Murdock Papers, a file of proof the Kingpin had amassed that proved Daredevil’s identity. They’re in the middle of brawling in the street with Bullseye when Matt is shot by a sniper working for the FBI.

...And then he vanishes before the FBI can collect him.

Oh, and also? Fisk has a little surprise for everyone:

There are no Murdock Papers! But if they find Matt Murdock and he has a bullet wound exactly where Daredevil was just shot, well...that’s even better, isn’t it?

(Side note: I have absolutely no idea how a file proving that Matt Murdock is Daredevil would have kept Fisk’s underlings in line, especially since Fisk was under the impression that his underlings didn’t even know Matt’s secret until recently, as per Bendis’s own storyline. This strikes me as Bendis writing himself into a hole and climbing out somewhat inelegantly three issues later.)

Meanwhile, Milla is still naked:

All Milla really does from here on out is have hysterics. I’m sorry. Anyway Natasha is there to get Milla to safety, as she promised Matt she would, but Milla is understandably distracted and upset by the news story that Daredevil is dead.

Back to the FBI! The problem with using the bullet wound as proof that Matt is Daredevil is that they have no idea where Matt is. But Fisk has a guess - or rather, he’s pretty sure that Ben knows.

See, Elektra would undoubtedly have taken a wounded Matt to the Night Nurse. And Ben knows how to find the Night Nurse:

Yeah, Leland has gone completely off the rails here. Ben is furious (he actually physically attacks Fisk, which is why the FBI is holding him in the first panel up there), but he’s still faced with a choice: give up Matt, or face federal charges.

Meanwhile, Luke and Danny take Foggy somewhere safe to hole up:

I don’t know who this cheerful hausfrau is, but she’s not Jessica “Fuck You” Jones. I’m guessing her fuller figure is meant to imply that she’s currently pregnant, but that doesn’t explain the a) babushka and peasant scarf, b) completely different face, and c) pleasant demeanor. But then, Foggy looks like an unemployed garment worker from 1890 in that top right panel, so who even knows what’s happening here.

Anyway now both of Matt’s spouses know he’s “dead.” Anxiety abounds!

Well, actually, Milla has the advantage over Foggy, because Natasha has taken her to the Night Nurse’s clinic, so she knows that Matt is dying but not actually dead. Also, Elektra has shown up with the Hand, which she is currently in charge of, because we need another reason to have a bunch of women screaming at each other over Matt. Luckily the Hand has ~mystic healing powers~ which they are using on Matt:

God, how much would I love a scene with this many women without the arbitrary hostility and Orientalism? (I would totally buy organic hostility between Natasha and Elektra based on their jobs. But not based on Matt, who Natasha knows - and Elektra knows intellectually if not emotionally - is not worth it.)

WAIT LOOK AT THAT LAST PANEL, OH DANG BEN TOLD THE FBI WHERE MATT IS

Hey, you know who’s outside with the FBI? A whole bunch of Hand assassins, who are not just going to let the FBI round them up! Which means they start fighting the FBI. Which means Luke and Danny, who have just arrived with Foggy, stuff Foggy back in the car and start fighting the FBI, because even though technically the Hand is currently on Matt’s side, Luke and Danny can’t let FBI agents be killed by zombie assassins.

So to recap: FBI fighting the Hand fighting Luke and Danny outside, Milla having hysterics inside, Foggy having hysterics in a car, Natasha and Elektra are also there somewhere, and Matt, having regained consciousness, decides that enough is enough. There’s too much risk of someone getting seriously hurt here.

So he turns himself in:

Natasha keeps Luke and Danny out of jail, but there’s nothing she can do for Matt. And so:

AW BUDDY. :(

The last issue of this storyline begins at Matt’s arraignment. The judge asks Matt what he pleads and Matt absolutely spaces out, leaving Foggy, as always, carrying the ball:

DO NOT DO THIS TO FOGGY, MATTHEW, DO NOT...

Aw beans, you did it.

Matt makes his way to a rendezvous point and meets up with two of his girls and arguably the silliest accessory he has ever worn, Mike era included:

Please note that Matt has dyed his hair black to enter France, as is tradition. Also, he and Milla look so stereotypically Parisian right now that they are probably actively offensive to the French. Natasha why did you do this to them.

ANYWAY WHO CARES, LOOK AT THAT DIALOGUE. “Tell him I love him.” “He knows.” “He might now.” I’M CRYING.

Matt’s blissful life as a fugitive is cut short almost immediately, though, as he wakes in the middle of the night to find Milla lying dead beside him. (I decided to spare y’all the sight of yet another murdered woman in these recaps.) It’s Bullseye, of course, who has tracked Matt down. Matt pursues him, and in the ensuing fight does the unthinkable (but arguably necessary):

Unfortunately for Matt, there are witnesses, who run off shouting in what I’m pretty sure is grammatically incorrect French. Matt flees to the only person who will take him in:

Speaking of walking sartorial stereotypes, hoo boy Elektra’s outfit.

Anyway, Matt and Elektra have sex, but he quickly decides he can’t stay with her for long:

Wait, what’s this? Why is Elektra referring to Matt as “Mister Murdock” in the last panel?

BECAUSE NONE OF IT EVER HAPPENED!!! Matt is still standing in court deciding how to plead!

I find this whole sequence simultaneously utterly hilarious and utterly infuriating. This is what’s going through Matt’s mind? “What if I ran away? Milla and I could move to France. But then Bullseye would probably kill her. Then I’d have to kill him, and then I’d have to go to Elektra, and then we’d have a sex scene which I will now imagine in detail, and then...” Why are you fantasizing about unrelated murder and having sex with your ex-girlfriend right now, Matt??? This is so off the rails. It's like a dead serious Simpsons gag. It’s an R-rated If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.

Also, please bear in mind that that sequence above takes up almost the whole issue. If I’d waited a month for that issue and paid for it individually instead of binge reading on Marvel Unlimited, I’d be furious.

Moving on! Matt’s been to Japan 7 times in the past 7 years? We’ve only ever seen one trip, and that was way back in the O’Neil run. But sure.

Matt is denied bail. His friends are dismayed:

WHO BOUGHT STEVE THAT TERRIBLE TIE. WHO DID THAT TO HIM.

Matt is carted back to Rikers Island, but he’s not the only one:

Sure, they dropped the charges against Fisk, but there’s always new stuff to charge him with! And so Fisk is packed off to Rikers (the real world NYC jail, FYI), along with the Owl, and a couple other familiar friends we’ll see in the next storyline.

(When I first described the conclusion of this storyline to @puzzleboat​, she sent me the following image, and I still find it highly accurate and hilarious:

Hmm, locked in a prison with tons of people with good reason to hate him, including several of his rogues? Doesn’t look good for Matt, does it?

Next up: The Devil in Cell Block D, and the death of Foggy Nelson.

✳️✳️✳️ First Watch: Preston Sturges’ classic Sullivan’s Travels. Successful comedy star wants to see first hand how the Other Half lives, and takes a trip as a hobo in 1941 America. 7/10.

✳️✳️✳️ Christmas in July, the film that Preston Sturges did just before that. Hollywood 1940.

I remembered Tarsem’s The Fall as the most beautiful movie in the world. Because it was hard to find, I could not watch it again until now.

It’s a “different” recursive fantasy about storytelling, with stunning visuals. A paralyzed stuntman laying in a Los Angeles sanatorium in 1915, spins a convoluted fairy tale to a 6-year-old Romanian girl, and they both visualize the story in different ways.

And Tarsem’s first-time feature, The Cell, a psychological horror dreamscape with Jennifer Lopez, who is trying to enter the mind of a comatose serial killer. Visually rich and original, but full of perverse sado-masochistic imagery.

With Hank Schrader in his same Breaking Bad role.

Ruben Östlund’s terrific drama Force Majeure. It’s about a Swedish family who experiences a sudden avalanche in an Alpine sky resort, during which the husband instinctively turns to run away, while the wife stays to protect their kids.

Interesting how the silent housekeeping guy was used like a Greek chorus. (Re-watch). 8/10

Then, 6 years later, somebody had to remake it into an American Downhill with entitled man-baby Will Ferrell (who can’t play a real person), and Jared “Zach” Dunn as “Zach”. But like a bad Disneyfied copy, I can’t figure out why even try it? Where Force Majeure was subtle and unsettling, Downhill is cheap and shallow.

Ruben Östlund’s next film was The Square, a rambling take-down satire about the pretentiousness of the contemporary art world. Excellent style mixed with some very uncomfortable scenes that creates “chaos” and confusion.

Locked down - an incompatible couple steals a $3M diamond from London’s Harrods before they break up. One of the first outright Covid-19 movies, with Danish actor Claes Bang (the protagonist from The Square) in a small role. Nearly good.

Donny's Bar Mitzvah, a new gross-out comedy, set in 1998 as filmed by a party videographer. 10% too juvenile, 10% too offensive, 10% too politically-incorrect. But it easily could have been so much funnier.

Marketing the Messiah, a light Australian documentary about the “True” history of early Christianity. Doesn’t come out and say it, but shows that it was all basically just made up out of whole cloth.

I “had to” watch Soul again, for the third time. The music parts are just too genial, as well as the live NYC parts. The blue Metaphysical explanations though are too artificial, “other-worldly”, and as such not as engaging.

From the team that made ‘Shaun of the Dead’ & ‘Hot Fuzz’, Attack The Block, a comic horror about a teen gang in South London defending their block from an alien invasion. With Nick Frost, but too noisy for me.

I'm diagnosed with major depressive disorder since 2011. In the past 7 years a lot has happened.

Some days were harder than others because I never took medication so dealing with my depression was always and will probably always be a huge struggle but it's alright because since 2011 I found the things that make me the happiest. I used to think I needed love to be happy but after high school I realized being in a relationship doesn't have to be the sole reason you are happy. I found my happiness in the late night movie binges I had with my little brother or going to the movies a bunch of time . I found my happiness in tea time with my mother and laughing about the dumb things that have happened to us. I found my happiness in playing minecraft for hours or building legos with my brother. I found my happiness in watching the snow pile up slowly during big storms or listening to the rain tap on my window late at night. Waking up to my dog licking my face or listening to my favorite song 10 times in a row. Finishing a really good book or getting a good grade on a college exam. Getting bangs again or getting a new hairstyle. Taking pictures of the beautiful NYC skyscrapers or traveling to a state park in Pennsylvania.

My point is sometimes we think there is only one thing in the entire world that will bring us joy but there are so many other things in our daily lives that if we pay attention to them can be little things that make us happy.
