You take a deep breath, reaching out your hand for the door hesitating as his fingers slid across the wooden object. You had been waiting for this moment for months, but you couldn't count the nervousness that had been growing in your core ever since Teddy and you started preparing for your album's release day.
You had told the producer that your only requirement was to listen to the album before release with all the people important to this creative process. And the day had arrived, behind that door people were waiting for you to finally hear all the effort of years, it was impossible to control your nervousness and you were failing miserably in this attempt.
You could hear the murmuring behind the door, which made you rethink whether this had all been a great idea in the first place. You feel a hand grab your wrist, and you turn around, coming face to face with the long-haired man smiling small at you.
“You okay?” Billy questions, You feel relief when you see him there, as you always felt in his presence.
“Not sure, actually.” You confess, turning to him. “I forgot how intense this is.”
“When you see everyone there being proud of you, it goes away quickly.” He gets closer to you, and your heart races.
“I don't know if they'll be proud. No one's ever heard it finished except Teddy." You say, trying your best to feel his fingertips on your hands.
“I am, you can be sure of that.” He intertwines your fingers, reassuring you in a way that even if everything falls apart he will be there. “And besides, I'm very eager to see what you came up with.”
Four months had passed since the agreement made between you and the eldest Dunne, Since then the album 'Aurora' had been a huge success and the band had played several shows around the globe. Meanwhile, the two of you always kept in touch, through calls and of course meetings here and there, you weren't sure what exactly permeated your relationship, but with each meeting you fell more with him.
Billy Dunne was an enigma, you felt so understood next to him that it was impossible to describe, every lyric you put down on paper seemed to describe him and every chord he created was like the melodies in your head. You understood each other, and each time you removed the layer of protection that life had made you create to get to know each other, you saw yourself in each other, you connected with each other, you fell in love.
That part of you wanted to keep your feet on the ground, believe that you were just friends and that was it. But now, feeling him caress your hands in an attempt to reassure you, it was almost impossible not to explode with emotions.
“I hope you like it.” That's all you manage to say.
“I'm positive I will, now, come on, pretty girl.” He holds out his hand for you to take. “Let's celebrate your rock n roll record.”
He opens the door for you, and when everyone inside cheers for you he can't help but smile. Large hanging on the wall was your album, as the center of the entire attraction, Warren drummed on the table to increase the celebratory noise, Karen clapped her hands while another whistled for you.
Little by little, they came to greet you and congratulate you on your achievement. You welcomed everyone with gratitude and gradually got excited to see them all here. To your right was a makeshift stage, so you could perform some tracks of your choice, and the band that recorded with you was among the guests having fun at the event.
“Okay y'all, everyone gather here!” Teddy calls for everyone, and little by little they approach. "Now let's listen to one of the most creative albums I've ever been a part of, our dear Y/N created a masterpiece that takes us on a rollercoaster of emotions. And I'm sure we'll celebrate that when she's at the top of the rankings.”
“To Y/N!” Billy says, raising his glass in making a toast.
“To Y/N!” The others celebrate with him.
The album was placed on the record player, you were shaking with nervousness, anxiety and at the same time afraid of what others would think. Deciding to put your hands in your pockets to hide how uncomfortable you were with this favorable space of judgment, you remained with your gaze glued to the album rotating and rotating.
“This is unbelievable…” Billy whispers against your ear, resting his hand on your lower back. “I'm speechless, really.”
You just give him a simple, happy, satisfied smile. Closing your eyes, you listen to those melodies that you had imagined for several nights emanating from the record player, trying to concentrate on what mattered, your art.
At the end of the album, the silence turns into a chorus of applause, and you, without noticing, shed a few tears of emotion. That was it, your work had been done, and you had pleased everyone and most importantly yourself.
You go up on the improvised stage and take the microphone in your hands, drawing everyone's attention.
“I'd like to thank all of you, because if you're here right now you somehow inspired me to get here. I've spent years working on my first album, working on everything you guys saw today and I'm so so so happy with the result.” It was even funny how nervous you were, you stopped and took a deep breath. “I usually say that the lyrics of a song show facets of the soul of whoever creates it, and I showed many parts of myself today to you.”
Once again the crowd applauds, you can see Warren hit a plastic fork on his beer bottle getting a laugh from Daisy. Billy watched you without being able to contain the smile on his face.
“I wanted to invite Billy to sing this song with me." He is taken by surprise but takes the stage, watching you with a clear look of questioning. “He was with me when I wrote this one, and it's my favorite on the album so…”
“Told you!” Daisy whispers to Warren, who looks at her with a lost gaze clearly focused on a black woman leaning against a distant wall.
“Yeah yeah, listen I'll be right back” He says going towards the woman, leaving the redhead with a pair of rolled eyes.
Everyone in the place hears the beat of their drummer's drumsticks indicating that the music is about to start.
Singing with Billy Dunne was inexplicable, and for a moment you wished you were Daisy and experienced it every night. Your voices flew giving reason to the melody, he looked at you with smiling eyes, feeling his body being carried away by what you had created, and to be honest you loved it. He reaches out to hold your hand, intertwining your fingers so they're in the place you both always wanted to be.
You dance around the stage, feeling the adrenaline rush that comes to you as you sing, the older Dunne watching you with pride, happiness and desire emerging more and more as well. When you finish it doesn't take long to hear the audience instead of the instruments, you all thank them and enjoy the rest of the party.
It was late, you knew that because from the window of the room you were in you could see the quiet city, as if it was waiting for you in a certain way. And despite knowing it was time to leave, something still kept you there, as if you could hold today in your hands so it wouldn't slip away as the seconds passed.
“Is there something lost in the sky?” You jump in fright when Billy's voice is heard.
“Goodnesses! Why do you keep doing that?” You say, your hand on your chest feeling your heart gallop. It was common when he was around.
He shrugs. "I'm very proud of you, this was all amazing.”
You turn around, smiling genuinely. "I'm proud of myself too, it was all so intense that I just want to stop thinking."
“I understand." He lets out a muffled laugh, you remain silent before he breaks it again. "The deal is over…”
You feel your chest tighten, questions you had asked a few times like "Did everything we went through together only involve what was agreed upon?" danced in your head again.
“Yeah…” That's all you manage to say through the knot on your throat.
“Look Y/N.” He turns to you, his eyes are dark among the dark around you and you curse yourself when you think that this was the prettiest it ever looked. “I like you, I like how everything is easy and good by your side. I just feel understood, like you see me somehow”
You watch him say, your eyes telling him to continue.
“I like us, and I don't want it to end. I don't know how you see this between us or how you want to move forward from now on but I know I don't want to give up on the way life seems to be easy with you.”
You felt like you lost your breath for a few minutes, which seemed like hours, as you saw the breeze ruffle a few strands of the man's long hair in front of you. You smile, a smile that came from deep in your chest and the great honesty of your soul.
You simply kiss him, and feel him smile against your lips. Both of Dunne's arms wrap around your waist and pull you closer, trying to smell you and know every millimeter of your body. You feel the intensity of the kiss grow, and he pushes you lightly against the open window, making the breeze feel on your back.
You break the kiss to observe his face illuminated only by the light, his smile was big and his matched yours. You kiss his nose and then place a light kiss on his mouth.
“I like us too, and you'll not get rid of me easily.” He laughs at your words and kisses you once again.
“I don't even want to.”
Footsteps in the hallway are heard, if you were paying attention you would know that it was two people for sure. Daisy stops abruptly in the doorway, her green eyes wide as she comes face to face with the scene you were staring. She stops Rojas as he walks, holding him with one arm and drawing his attention to the couple kissing in the room.
“Damn.” Rojas says under his breath. “Fuck, I lost fifty bucks!”
Daisy smiles victoriously, pulling Warren to leave you and Billy Dunne alone in your world.

✦(!!) Summary: Now as a very successful singer to your own solo name , some stuff from your past gets dragged back out. A girl by the name of Julia contacts you with the opportunity of doing an interview for a piece she is doing. When you first hear the offer your scoff at the idea , not being the most friendly with some press. But after finding out she’s Billy and Camilas child? , along with the piece being about the band you used to be apart of? Well how could you resist at that point. With this you now get the chance to explain your side of the rise and fall , with no ifs ands or buts. Throughout the entire process you hash out some old feelings , retell the story of the bands success and most of all your thoughts.
✦(!!) Authors Note: Hihihi , sooo... NEW HYPERFIXATION!!! The show is so phenomenal along with this wonderful book. All the character have so many delicious layers , how could I not write for this show?? ✦(!!) Content Warnings: Based around the shows story!! , I have read the book but most likely I’ll take some small details from the book which is all. Proofread.. mostly , very reader backstory indulgent!! Brief talks about Billy and Grahams father , talks about an unhealthy home life for reader (neglect and emotional abuse) , miscommunication between reader and Billy. “ ■━■ “ , means flashback or moment from the past. Anything in bold or italicized is the present/interview. Anything else I should add to this , tell me in the comments!! ✦(!!) >>Y/N , in a certain sunny backyard (your backyard)<< ;  Fuckin shit.. are we rolling? [You continue to mess with the mic taped onto your shirt in nervousness.] Testinggg Testingggg.. >>Interviewer<< ; [She laughed lightly , gathering her notepad from a side table. She was sitting across from you.] Oh yeah no no we’re definitely rolling , want me to start on with the questions? >>Y/N<< ; Yes of course , fire away! Sorry if I’m a little clumsy with this I’ve never been the best at interviews is all. [You comment as your hand goes for a drink you had placed down earlier right before she got the camera rolling.] >>Interviewer<< ; Trust me you’ll be fine , its a easy process honestly. I’ll start with the first question. . . being one of the lead vocalists of the band must have been something. How did you meet the band? >>Y/N<< ; [You lean back taking a swig of your drink with it] Well in Hazelwood? , nothing could stop you from knowing everyone and their business. Growing up I was neighbors with the Dunne family, we lived right across the street. I was stuck in my bubble a lot as a kid. I only knew about the brothers after my mother forced me over when she and their mom had their regular long lunches.  We [my family] especially got involved once their dad popped out of the picture. My mother noticed the hole he left in that family dynamic so she helped out how she could. Be that in money or lending a hand when needed. Which meant I was around MORE often than normal. Especially she stressed to try and be a little more friendly with Billy. With our own childhood rivalry , she always repeated about how he was in a tough place and needed a friend. Some time passed and surprisingly we clicked? Somehow , someway we became actual friends. I honestly dont regret getting more closer with him , he may be a douche but he isn’t or wasn’t the most vile guy around.                                                                                                                       [You commented , shrugging and repositioning yourself.] Graham was pretty easy to get along with a little later on. He was a huge dork but a good guy , along with being a total awkward mess when it came to any girl deciding to barely SPEAK with him. The brothers weren’t half bad to be completely honest. Eddie and Warren? , those guys I met through Graham. Like I said in that town you always knew who everyone was and what they were up to. I had met Warren when Graham had invited him over to his place. I popped in just for fun and then met the goof. To this day one of my favorite people on this plane of existence. Eddie.. [you snapped your fingers] oh! My mother would volunteer at the local old folks home , she always had that saint behavior. Eddie was visiting his grandma and I was stuck in his grandmas room waiting for my mom to get back so we could leave. Me and him struck up some conversation , found out we knew the same people and had some similar interests. Big fucking doof but again , a likeable dork. Then... boom! - just like that he was stuck with me. At that point they all were. [You chuckled happily as you finish explaining.] >>Interviewer<< ; *She nodded while scribbling down something on her notepad.* Wonderful , on with my next question - how  was your start with the band? You know joining it and all. >>Y/N<< ; [You nodded- swishing around your glass.] At first when the band was starting off I didnt really have my mind set on joining you know? We were all just dumb kids , I was more of a person dedicated to a steady sort of “project” if you could call it that. But then... I heard them from chucks garage. I wasn’t some musical genius, but I had some useful judgments. I remember popping my head in, giving some light-hearted jabs at them. Then out of the blue Eddie starts talking his ass off all embarrassed, if I’m so good I should join! I can just remember staring daggers into the bozo's eye sockets. Little did they know I actually had some skills to back me up; my “audition” they all looked so incredibly hilarious. Just like that I was in , they even let me take up vocals with Eddie. All the time I could remember Graham going on constantly about how THE Billy Dunne would be playing with us. School or where ever , he was always on his bullshit. At that point Billy was basically a legend around people our age. Everyone would figuratively and literally fall to their knees for the hunk with his guitar. While I was the swamp goblin that caught a ride on that popularity. [You chuckled half heartedly , taking another swig from your cup.] Of course, we weren’t the best, this wasn't anything extraordinary. Nevertheless, at least we were something. It didn't take much convincing from Graham to have him hear them play, but hey- I helped with that extra push. Just a few sessions later the band was basically his, although I still was able to keep my placement in the band. Even with how stubborn he was or could be, it was enjoyable having our ideas bounce off one another. Besides whatever he says , I didnt threaten to cut his dick off. It was a spur of the moment thing you know! But it really only lifted up our talent more , him joining and becoming our basic front man. We actually became... easier to stomach. [You shudder , sheepishly replying with a grin.] As we got into more of the rhythm of actually BEING a band , nothing was set and stone. It was basically just an escape; a detour if you will from regular life. I cant even recall off the top of my head all the tons of local parties , graduations , even weddings we played. Honestly was a pretty enjoyable time for the lot of us. I mean getting to hang out with a group friends doing something you were all semi passionate about? Truly a fuckin blast if I do say so myself. Even with the fun , deep down you could embrace with talent we had when playing on the cramped stages we were given. I was a big dreamer and dream big I did. Those early days , our potential was showing itself off more. That “it” factor that wasn’t quite discovered yet was so palpable, so I stayed hopeful. We only really became an actual, legitimate band after a certain gig we had. It was a wedding , my best guess is that one of the newly weds name was Doug? Though that’s besides the point. I mean starting off we didnt play in the best of places. Maybe a couple crappy bars around town here and there or some “okay” parties .. but nothing super superb. Until we got this one , everyone couldn’t have been more over the moon! When we got onstage the crowd couldn’t have loved us more , it was a pretty pleasant time. Until in the middle of our session I spot some old creep. He was dancing.. even if you could call it that. The most tackiest suit with a pretty shitty comb over. Dont forget the girl that was basically our age. Took me a little too long to realize that.. that was Billy and Grahams dad. Before I could do or say anything , Billy looked mortified. His eyes were wide as his jaw was to the floor. He stormed off before even any of us could get a word in. Graham had gotten a little ahead of us while me , Eddie , Warren , and Chuck followed along. As if anyone could look more shattered than he did , I mean just by the look on his face you could tell something was up. He was so quick on his feet , marching back in to confront him. His dad was clearly waisted and had some of that classic slurred drunky speech. Lets just say there was some really good Karma going around. Coming back out into the parking lot , any payment from that whole thing was doomed right after Grahams fist went slamming into his dads face. Everyone stood around aimlessly while just by a glance at Billy.. something was cooking up in his magnificent brain. He had the words to rally hundreds , instead rallying the rest of us. I can remember his words like it was all entirely yesterday. “Your my brothers.. I love you. We work hard and stick together. We’re gonna be the biggest band in the world someday , do you trust me?” [You explained while using your hands in air quotes.] He wasn’t wrong about becoming the biggest fuckin band in the world I’ll let you know. [You joked with a snicker as the interviewer across from you shared the snicker with a faint chuckle.] Right after that gig was when practices started to get more frequent , all crammed inside of Chucks garage. If my vocal cords were frazzled and my hands were sore it was a good day. Not gonna lie that was  frequent occurrence. Around that time was also where Billy got more acquainted with Camila. I had knew her from around the neighborhood , we would always run into each other on our shared walks to the middle school we went to. She was like sun when its fiery and burning , bright and always cheery for conversation.  For weeks Graham was less of the hopelessly in love one around. Hours upon hours Billy couldn’t stop talking about her. It was nice seeing him so happy , she really brought something out of him. A new sort of groove so to say. [You wink at the camera with a toothy grin.] ■━■ Speaking of Camila , it brought a memory to your mind.  ■━■ It was the week before Billy had asked Camila to be his girlfriend. He was rambling about her for days and days on end. Constantly frequenting your house just to only talk about her. It may had been a little ear grating but you were happy for him none the less. Though, your feelings for him never stopped poking at you. You’ve never really felt so bitter when hearing about the new girl he was in a daze over. But now.. something tugged at you. Be it jealousy or contemplation , it was definitely something. You could never really land on an explanation.   One of those days he had stopped by your house. Your mom was out with her new conquest on some sort of weekend trip , which left you home alone. It may have been shameful to still live with your parent but it did leave you to roam around freely. With Billy involved , that all led to shenanigans happening. Your mother had this prized piano , one of the things she always cherished even with how old it was. It may have been a gift from your grandparents? You never really wanted to know , never the less cared about it origins. But you always loved playing it. That night you were able to open your moms alcohol stash , and lets just say you and Billy got a little heavy handed with the booze. To the point the both of you felt like teenagers doing the most stupidest shit in existence , even though you guys were only stumbling around. Definitely the kinds of things that would totally have the pair of you in trouble. What was supposed to be a session for brainstorming became your own mini , two person party. As it reached around midnight the two of your were sat at that old piano. It was so eloquent , probably one of the most expensive things in your house. Playfully your hands were smacking at the keys. While Billy's head was rested upon your shoulder , his signature “dumb” smile on his face. Cherishing the alone time , while in your sloppy state your slurred out the words to the song you had been coming up with. Even though your mind was in a bit of a fuzz you still were able to match the keys and the tone. Though you couldn't help the hiccups and little giggles that emerged from you. It was until you realize Billy crane his head up and look at you as you played. His cheeks were more red than a fresh strawberry , eyes oh so glazed over as he only watched you. You realized as well and looked over , the warmness in your cheeks heightening. Not stopping yourself , you took that moment in silence to admire him. Be it his immersive eyes or his intoxicating smile , there was always something about him. Something that always dragged you along for the ride. Something that always led you to stick by his side no matter what. Something about this man. . . made you feel something. These feelings that always made you loose a little air and made your chest puff out in that same old flustered feeling. That same stupid grin came back as he couldn’t stop laughing. It was bashful and exuberant , while being calm and grounding in the best way possible. You quirked a brow as you couldn’t help but start on this chuckle train. You wiped your eye with a flick of your finger. “Wh-what are you even on right now man~?” You tried to compose yourself as your voice got a little more fluent. He didnt stop grinning like an idiot. “Nothinggg.. you just make things good.” He commented as he crossed his arms in confidence. “I see , so thats what you kept me around this long~..” You cracked as another giggle escaped from you; your eyes still glued to his. He gently socked your forearm as he couldn’t stop himself from giggling. “N-noo! Dont sell yourself THAT short. You make a lot of things good.. you make me feel.. good.” He may had been stumbling over his words but that was one of the most dedicated proclamations. You cracked a blissful smirk as you seemingly leaned a little bit more in. “Well I’m glad to be a booster to your existence.” As soon as you finished talking , he also got a little bit closer. Maybe it was the copious amounts of alcohol the two of you chugged down , or the confusing thoughts sprouting. But almost like the current took you in , your lips met Billy’s. He welcomed in the kiss , moving his hands right away. His hands cupped your cheeks; embracing the warmness of your face. The kiss only deepened and turned into more of a tangled make out. Though he was the first one to pull away , regret filling his face. You were confused about how he was suddenly acting. The man looked the most sober out of the both of you. “I-im sorry I- I cant do this. All of this.. I mean your awesome but..” Even as he was explaining himself his hands still cupped your warm face. Your eyes framed into sad ones as you scooted back; well as much as you could on the pianos bench. He tried to say something , you really wanted him to! Maybe a “just kidding” or.. anything! But alas he was quiet the entire time you two shared a painful stare. He got up from the connected bench and staggered over to your front door. You felt so ashamed in that moment. So small you couldn’t stop beating yourself up about it. But you realized what those feelings you had always pined over were. You, like it or not... were in love with Billy Dunne. You came to that realization as he continued to walk out on you. Be it the next coming week nothing seemed out of the ordinary , he was still friendly with you like always. Though the kiss was never brought back up again. Along with that Camila started to come around more often. Huge recorder in her hand as she watched over your practice sessions. Maybe in the end that was for the best , maybe in the end it was all just too complicated. ■━■ You reeled your mind out of the gutter and back to the present. ■━■ >>Y/N<< ; [You head your head in your hand as you looked back at Jules.] Sorry, got a little zoned out. Did I miss something? >>Interviewer<< ; [She shook her head with a kind look on her face.] No no.. you did though cut off at the part of the whole band realization. >>Y/N<< ; [You readjust in your seat once more.] Right right , at that point in our life it was almost like a huge fork in the road. I mean we were all just adults thrashing our heads around at endless gigs. Most people our age were either off getting fancy dead end jobs or dead in ditches after enlisting. The actual chance of us getting a name for ourselves was.. small in hindsight. Even though the odds were stacked against us a lot of the time , we were able to get an actually good gig. At the time with a band like ours , opening for the winters was almost like a blessing in disguise. It may have been us packed into again , some small bar with annoyingly sweaty onlookers but it was the Winters for christ sake! Somehow some way we got that one scored in the bag , and we went to go tell Chuck about our latest accomplishment. Though guess he was up to his own shit. I was never the biggest fan of him you know? He was okay but he was like... meh when it came to actual conversation. Personally I was never the closest with him. Anyways- we arrive to his house in Warrens new van. It was clunky and smoky but with a little touch ups we made it work. More of a home than a heap of shit. Poor dude had busted all of his savings on it. Whole time I couldn’t stop fidgeting in the back with the idea of us becoming somebodies. I always was a big dreamer and forever will be. It may be frowned down upon to put all your eggs into one basket but we were just some crazy kids looking for something. This was that something! In my mind I knew this gig had to lead to some sort of accomplishment in a way , I just knew it. Even if it all sounded crazy or spur of the moment , the band was like our.. baby in a way? Like our prize possession , and take the gig as some big new award. Long story short , I was filled with so much fear and excitement I was basically like a ticking time bomb. [You dramatically grace a hand to your chest before going on with your explanation.]
>>Y/N<< ; When we arrived, I could already tell something was up. The garage we always played in was closed, which I took as a concerning sign. My anxiety was even more impacted by seeing Chuck's face. Guy looked like he was about to shit himself in fear. He tells us and acts like an asshole about it. A dentistry career? Really? I knew he was shitty from the start. Now with our new gig lined up and no bassist , you’d probably be like well what do we do now. Well Eddie was immediately was talking about us having to “cancel the gig.” Lets just say I stepped around a couple hypothetical landmines when Billy tried to push Eddie to play bass. I stepped in of course and said I’d do it. With how much time I normally spent cooped up in my house during my younger years I was pretty much a master at it. An I mean , you could just feel the bitterness rising once Billy tried to push it on him. Mission saved of course by yours truly. [You stated dramatically - taking a sip from your drink and setting it down.] We do the gig and you know what? , its a hit! The crowd goes wild and we have a fucking awesome time. Entire encore I was just taking in the fact people were listening at all. After we finish, we took a smoke break outside the bar. Casually me , Eddie , and Warren are standing off to the side. Just talking like regular. When all of a sudden I see Billy , starry eyed scurry up to us with Graham behind him. Brining up the idea of “Hey lets road trip to L.A to grow our band!” At first it was sudden , I mean being realistic- we aren’t just gonna fly off the charts when first hitting Los Angeles. But you know what? , Hazelwood was getting cramped. I loved living there and I did for most of my entire life. But this was something new! Just by that performance I immediately said yes to the idea. We promised to always stick together , and I was a person of my word. The whole upbeat mood kind of dropped when Camila came out asking what was up , but I had to deal with packing my things. I basically jumped out of the van door when Warren dropped me off. As soon as I reentered my “home” , everything changed. My mom was still awake and livid. She was clearly not in a lucid headspace seeing the amounts of opened wine. Her displeasure only grew stronger when I told her the news. Snipping at me for leaving my “poor and weak mother to fend for herself.” I stood my ground then and there. I was always thankful that she’d let me stay with her. Most kids would have been kicked out if they were my age and weren’t going to school. But me and my mother struck up a deal with living costs and that was that. All of a sudden though she gets so pissed that I’m leaving. I tell her straight , that I’m an adult and this is something new for me. That it could really mean something for my career. I distinctly remember her scoffing in my face and going - “What career?!” It was really messy , and I was fed up with it. Even when she was screaming at me I packed my bags. All I owned into one big suitcase for the city of angels , woohooo..! I didn’t even let my tears stop me as she started to cut deeper with her insults. Right when I told her there was no way I was backing out , she basically disowned me. Saying that she didn’t want to be associated or RELATED with some washed up crack whore. Genuinely I was so confused , she always supported this dream of mine? Always accepted my hopes and aspirations, she never hesitated to pay for any lessons I wanted or any new hobby I wanted to partake in. Seeing her face for one last time I only saw the bad. Her leaving for days with her new “friends” , her clearly drunk off her gord and slurring nonsense after she decided to hide herself behind the couches for at least a weekend[s]. She was an embarrassment but knew how to clean up an act. That two faced bitch shoved me out of my own house , and told me I was never welcomed inside again. It wasn’t like I wouldn’t call or anything , I've been cleaning up her messes since day one. Always having to deal with my new “dad” candidates whisking around my halls , or having to be the middle man in those arguments. Fuck- they’d even make me deal with their kids! I couldn’t even get in one word before I got the door slammed in my face. I tried calling for her , begging for her to understand. I basically lost a mother in that moment and it wrecked me. All I wanted when I cam home was some support and what I got in return was just bitter insults. I couldn’t really be excited when the home I knew for so long became nothing. I couldn’t sleep outside with the rain incoming. So I went to someone that was actually decent , Ms. Dunne. It had started sprinkling when I made it onto her doorstep. My sobbing blended with the rain but by my guitar case , get-away bag, and watery eyes she knew something happened.  She welcomed me in with the biggest hug , telling me everything was gonna be okay. She already knew about the whole move to L.A and gave me some hope. Telling me that she’ll be my personal cheerleader places away. An to not listen to what my mother said , that I had a talent so bright it was like the blinking stars in the night sky. I was a blubbering mess while she started to make me a nice hot cup of tea. I realized something very helpful in that moment. Family isn’t just by blood .. its the people who love you , who accept you even with all your mucky details. That was the Six for me , they were my family. As the warm cup dragged me back down to earth , I became settled in my decision. I slept on the Dunne’s couch that night. It may had been a rainy day but all I saw was my hot , and burning future when I woke and saw that fateful van. We all packed in , everyone feeling mixed emotions. I even got more excited when I saw a eager Cami crawl in as well.  I was pretty joyed over the reconciliation between her and Billy , but all I was thinking of was what was to come. Going as far as to imagining what could possibly happen. I was maybe... fifty percent correct in what I had in mind. [You chuckled with a big bright grin at the statement , holding your head in your hands.] The time that passed was awesome in the van. We were all just a group of ambitious people finding something more. When we made it? , god I was overjoyed! It was all just like my dreams , with the big signs in lights and the character filled pedestrians. Nighttime there was nothing compared to night back home.  I knew I was gonna like this arrangement right away. ‿‿‿‿ ‿‿‿‿ ‿‿‿‿ ‿‿‿‿ ʙᴏɴᴜꜱ ꜰᴏᴏᴛᴀɢᴇ: >>Interviewer<< ; How would you describe them in three words? >>ʙɪʟʟʏ ᴅᴜɴɴᴇ<< ; Oh god! , theres so many ways to describe them in more than just three words. [He scoffed lightly in flustered-ness , really taking a second to think.] I cant fuck this up i’d tell you that. Lets sayy.. honest , vibrant , and complicated. Though that’s was one of their greatest quirks. >>ᴅᴀɪꜱʏ ᴊᴏɴᴇꜱ<< ; [She chucked at the thought.] Well.. maybe forgiving , genuine , and wonderful! They are so many things but truly never boring. >>ᴡᴀʀʀᴇɴ ʀᴏᴊᴀꜱ<< ; Hmm... so much shit to choose from. I’d have to go with comedic , the best , and just.. god this is hard! Wait was that three- >>ᴋᴀʀᴇɴ ꜱɪʀᴋᴏ<< ; They’ve always been one of my closest friends to this day. Compassionate , creative , and sparky! Just by their presence you could immediately tell you were gonna have a good time. Maybe a mess but hey , aren’t we all? >>ᴇᴅᴅɪᴇ ʀᴏᴜɴᴅᴛʀᴇᴇ<< ; [He tapped at his chin in thought.] Personally? Wait.. just THREE? Holy shit this is gonna be hard. Well.. all I’m gonna say is they were like a ball of chaos in the best ways possible. They could just consume you fully in so much wonder , never a dull moment. [He smiled , assured in his answer.] >>ᴄᴀᴍɪʟᴀ ᴀʟᴠᴀʀᴇᴢ (ᴅᴜɴɴᴇ)<< ; [She smiled thoughtfully at the camera.] There's one great word to describe them entirely. Curiosity , just the embodiment of it entirely.

Our life together
masterlist ! pairing: Sam Claflin x fem!reader
GENRE: fluff, love , family love
Tumblr media
There are many things that you will not forget with your first born, the first tooth, the first step. Sam and I filmed every moment in the life of our daughter, Mary Rosie Claflin. Since our daughter was born, Sam took a little break from acting and I didn't take any break, not even during pregnancy because I'm a songwriter and most of the time I work at home.
Mary was born on Sam's birthday, he always says that I gave him the most beautiful gift in the world and that no one can give him a more beautiful gift than this, he became a father on his birthday.
It's December 15, that means it's the first Christmas with Mary who is almost 6 months old, all she did was eat, sleep and play with her daddy.
Sam and I did everything in our power to make the most beautiful Christmas just for our beautiful daughter and today her daddy will take the tree to decorate it.
While Sam and I were decorating the tree, Mary sat either in my arms or on Sam's hip, she pointed to the blue ornaments and mumbled something she understood, when the time came to turn on the lights, I amd my daughter was sitting down , with her on my lap.
When my dear husband plugged them in, Mary's eyes shone.
"Look who's happy when she sees the tree, our Mary is happy," says Sam and tickles her little foot.
"Of course she's happy, it's her first Christmas, the first time Santa comes to her because she was a very good girl, isn't that right Sam?" I ask him and put my head on his shoulder.
"It's very true my love, everything is new for her and we're here to make her the best Christmas ever." Sam says and kisses my temple.
When I look at our daughter, she looks so curious at what is happening in front of her, how the lights change color, and she reaches out to a pink globe, Mary tries to take it from the tree but she can't reach it and this does it to get upset and we expected her to start crying.
Sam was faster and took her from my lap, got up with her and started humming a song that I know will calm her down a bit.
"What happened, why are you crying Mary? Everything will be fine, mommy and daddy are here with you. What made you so upset? Hmm" his voice calmed her and she looked intently at her father, as if to say the most special thing on this earth.
I still haven't gotten used to these beautiful moments of interaction between Sam and our beautiful daughter. While I look at the two of them, my dear husband motions me to approach them.
"My love, everything is fine. We are here with you." I say to Mary and I approach her and kiss her on the cheek.
"Y/n thank you for all the good times we spent together and thank you for making me a father. I love you so much Y/n Claflin!" He tells me and kisses me, I put my hand on his cheek and prolong the kiss, Sam is the first to break the kiss and leans down and kisses Mary on the forehead.
"I love you too Sam Claflin!" I say and look at our most special gift in our life, Mary Rosie Claflin.
"And you our little treasure, we love you very much, from here to the moon and back." Sam says and puts his arm around me and the three of us hug.
How I got so lucky in life I don't know, but the only thing I know is that I have the most beautiful family in the world and I wouldn't give anything in the world to change that.

See Me - Eddie Roundtree x FReader
Tumblr media
Summary: You had spent your whole life trying to prove yourself, to be seen. Living in the shadows of your brothers was exhausting, but you fought to make a name for yourself. So, how could not fall for the only person who saw you no matter what?
You had always been Billy and Graham’s little sister to everyone. It didn’t even make sense because you and Graham were twins, but you were still always considered to just be somebody’s something. You were never known as just you.
When you were a kid, you were mildly annoyed by your afterthought status, but you expected the feeling to fade with age. It didn’t. It was only made worse when The Dunne Brothers formed.
Did Billy and Graham ever ask their own sister if she wanted to join the band? Of course not. You didn’t play any instruments, but you had talked about wanting to learn before. It kind of hurt how little attention they paid to you.
Instead of let it drive you crazy, you decided to use it. You were going to make them see you, and then maybe it would feel like they gave a shit. You were even lucky enough to have the perfect opportunity open up.
You could tell Chuck was flaking. He wasn’t serious about the band like the others. So, you took up bass guitar in secret. You were earning your spot in the band once he left, because you could very obviously tell he was leaving.
Sure enough, right before the band was leaving for LA, Chuck told them he was done. You walked out in the driveway to find the remaining band members looking absolutely pissed.
“What’s going on?” You put a hand on Graham’s shoulder to catch his attention.
Billy beat him to an answer. “Chuck quit. Now we’re out a bass player.”
“The fuck are we going to do, man?” Graham looked over at him.
“I don’t know, Eddie can switch to bass for us.” Billy spat out.
You glanced over in time to see a flash of anger in Eddie’s eyes. He didn’t want that, and frankly, neither did you.
It was now or never. “Let me do it.”
“You play, little Dunne?” Warren asked.
“Yes,” You assured him at the same time Billy and Graham let out a sure “no”.
Your brothers turned to you in surprise the second the words left your mouth.
“Since when do you play?” Graham gave you a suspicious look.
“Long enough to be better than Chuck.” You folded your arms and looked between him and Billy sternly. “Will you give me a chance to prove it?”
Everyone turned to Billy as he turned to you.
“Fine, yeah, let’s hear what you got.”
You played one song for them and the vote to let you in was unanimous.
————————
There was nothing quite as exciting as the feeling when you all arrived in LA. The night after you arrived, you all partied hard. Sure, you all didn’t know what you were doing or how you were going to make it, but you took a huge leap and that called for celebration in your eyes.
“Hey, I never got to thank you.” Eddie handed you a beer as he took the seat next to yours.
You thanked him and took a swig. “Thanked me for what?”
“You saved my ass before we left. I like where I am, I never wanted to be a bass player. Besides, you’re way better at it than I am. You could kick anyone’s ass at bass.”
You chuckled at him. “Well, I don’t know about that.”
“No, I’m serious. We should’ve kicked Chuck out when he started skipping practices ages ago.”
A genuine smile grew on your face. No one has ever complimented you this much before. Especially not someone you barely knew. Eddie hung out with Graham, the most you’d really talked was small conversations in passing.
“Thanks, Eddie. I really appreciate that.”
He gave you a smile in return and you felt a flutter, an honest-to-God, romance movie flutter. That was not good. You couldn’t fall for someone in the band, things would blow up if it didn’t work out.
You excused yourself and went to find Camila. She might’ve been Billy’s girlfriend, but she had quickly become your best friend.
“Hey Cam, come get another drink with me?” You put a hand on her arm.
She turned to you and nodded. “Yeah, sure.” You led her back inside and went immediately to the fridge. “More beer or should we open a bottle of wine? Fair warning, it’s super cheap and super shitty, but it’ll do the trick.”
“How about you tell me what happened with Eddie out there first?” She gave you a sly look.
You closed the fridge and whirled around. “What? Nothing happened!”
“Oh there was definitely a moment. I saw some looks over there.” She poked you.
“He was just being nice about me joining the band. That’s it. Nothing more.” You held up your hands defensively.
“Why not? Eddie’s a good guy.”
“I just got in the band, I’m not complicating things with that. Besides, we’ve barely ever talked before. I don’t even think you could call us friends yet. The most important thing right now is figuring out how to actually get famous out here.”
Camila considered your words for a second and shrugged. “I guess you have a point there. And I wouldn’t worry about you all making it, I have faith in this.” She looped an arm through yours. “Now, let’s go get drunk off our asses on this cheap wine.”
————————
After that night, you found yourself acutely aware of everything Eddie did and it frustrated you to no end. Every time he glanced at you in practice, every compliment he gave you, every little gesture he did. The last thing you wanted to do was develop feelings for Eddie, but it looked like it was maybe too late for that.
Y/N: To make matters worse, Camila had definitely not done what I asked and liked to play the subtle matchmaker. She thought I didn’t notice, but she was pretty obvious about it.
Camila: So maybe I tried to get them together, is that so bad? Y/N was skeptical, but I knew it wouldn’t blow up like she thought. Besides, I’ve known them almost my entire life, and they deserve to be happy.
“Hey, would you mind grabbing some ice from the kitchen?” Camila called out as she arranged some plates of food on the table.
It was Julia’s first birthday, and you and Cam decided to plan a little gathering for it. Just the band was there, it wasn’t anything huge.
“Yeah, of course.” You dusted off your hands as you finished setting up a folding table.
“Great! Eddie, go help her.”
You didn’t even have time to shoot Camila a glare before he nodded and started toward you. Instead you mouthed not funny at her as soon as Eddie couldn’t see. She gave you a smug grin and mouthed you’re welcome.
You followed Eddie into the kitchen, nervousness faintly tingling in your veins. This man had entirely too much power over you. You had tried everything to get him off your mind, and it would work for a little, but then he would tell you he liked that little riff you threw into that song or he’d bring you your favorite drink after you and Billy had an argument over some stupid thing at the studio and you would turn all mushy again. You had come to realize that he understood what it felt like to be overlooked and maybe that was why you felt a weird connection with him.
“You seen the cooler?” Eddie asked, bringing your attention back to the moment.
You glanced around. “Yeah, it’s up there on top of the fridge. One second.”
As you stood on your tiptoes to reach for the cooler, you were realizing that you weren’t going to be able to reach it. Then you felt the ghost of warmth behind you.
“Here, I can help with that.” Eddie’s smooth voice murmured above you.
Instantly, you felt your face flame. God, you hadn’t behaved like this since you were thirteen. It was more than a little embarrassing and you sure as hell weren’t about to let him see you like that. As soon as Eddie snatched the cooler and stepped away, you put distance between the two of you.
“I’m going to go see if Cam needs any more help, you got this from here?” You blurted as you made for the back door.
“Wait!” Eddie grabbed your wrist gently. You flinched out of surprise, but he immediately dropped your hand. “Sorry, sorry, I just wanted to talk.”
“No, it’s fine, uh, what’s up?” You put on an entirely forced smile.
Eddie folded his arms and gave you an earnest look. “Did I do something?”
“No,” your brows furrowed. “Why?”
“You avoid me all the time. I don’t know if I pissed you off at some point, but you act like I’ve got the fucking plague or like you want nothing to do with me.”
It stung a little bit. He seemed genuinely hurt, and you never wanted to do that. “No! It’s not you, Eddie. You haven’t done anything wrong, I swear.”
“Then what’s wrong? It’s bad enough being in a band with one Dunne that can’t stand me, I don’t know if I can handle two Dunnes acting like that.” Eddie threw his hands up in frustration.
You closed your eyes and sighed. “Eddie, I promise I don’t have a problem with you.”
He took a step closer to you. “Then why do you act like you do?”
His tone was becoming more and more irritated, and the insistence was starting to annoy you too. He was going to make you say it, wasn’t he? But honestly, maybe you should’ve just told him. It had been well over a year of pining. If continuing to act like this was going to cause a fight, maybe it would be less chaotic to tell him and see what happens. Things couldn’t keep going the way they were, regardless.
“You really want to know why?”
He nodded. “Please.”
You took a breath and looked him directly in the eyes. “I like you, okay? And I don’t want to like you because liking people in your band doesn’t usually work out well, but it’s been too fucking long and I can’t stop feeling like this so I avoid you.”
Eddie let out a dark chuckle. “That’s it? You’ve been ignoring me all this time because you like me?”
“Yeah, I have. And don’t act like that’s so wild. My reasons make sense. It’s not stupid.” You practically spat the words.
There were lots of ways you had envisioned this possibly going, but you never thought he’d be this angry. You didn’t think he’d be angry at all. Awkward maybe, but not pissed.
“It is stupid, actually.”
Your head snapped toward him. “I’m sorry, what?”
Eddie stepped closer again. “I said that’s actually pretty fucking stupid.”
“Eddie, I swear to God, if you-”
Eddie crashed his lips against yours before you could say another word. Your shock wore off after a moment and you were able to kiss him back like you’d wanted to for so long. The two of you broke apart after what felt like a small eternity, panting and grinning.
“Graham owes me $20.” Warren chuckled from the doorway.
Both of you jumped apart and were met with Warren’s pleased face.
“How long have been there, Warren?” You stammered.
“Long enough, Little Dunne. Long enough.”
You pointed a finger at him. “Keep it to yourself, or you lose nickname privileges.”
“We already know!” A voice called from outside. Karen.
You rolled your eyes. You kind of hated your friends sometimes, but you also kind of loved the infuriating little shits.
“Whatever, let’s just get the ice back out there.” You shook your head with a laugh.
Eddie grabbed the cooler with one hand and your hand with the other, and you had to admit, you felt way less scared of the possibility of dating a bandmate.
————————
Y/N and Eddie Roundtree got married a year after Daisy Jones and The Six broke up. They currently work together producing music and are still located in LA. Their daughter and son already have a huge love of music, and are rumored to be starting a band of their own.

“Milkshake?” You smile, walking out of the house and onto the porch, offering one of the cups to Eddie. “Thanks.” He takes it from you, then taking a sip out of the colourful twisty straw. “This is disgusting.” He fake gags. “What?!” You gasp and take a sip of your own drink, the cold mixture of vanilla ice cream and strawberries immediately giving you brain freeze as it glides down your throat. You scrunch your nose before opening your mouth to protest his words, “This tastes good!” You huff, your lips forming into a slight pout, Eddie biting his lip to hold back his laughs. “It’s good, it’s good, I was kidding.” He puts his hands up in defence and you roll your eyes at his joke, playfully hitting his side. “Hey!” He gasps. You let out a faint laugh and sit down next to him on the knitted blanket that’s laid out on the wood floorboards, the paint starting to chip away from them. It’s a sunny and hot day, barely any wind to cool you off. “So, are you nervous about the tour?” Eddie asks. “No, are you?” Your expression falters. Truth is, you’re extremely nervous. After the last tour, you’re worried it could go wrong again, ending up with Billy relapsing. “No.” He replies, pausing for a moment and looking away from you. “Are you sure you’re not nervous?” He encourages you to be honest. “Eddie, I’m-“ Before you can finish your sentence, he looks back at you, giving you that certain look, that look he always does, that makes you crumble into a million pieces. “Yes, okay? I’m scared, is that what you want to hear?” You huff, placing your glass down. “Yeah, it is actually.” He starts, “It’s going to be okay, alright? We’re going to be okay. Billy is going to be okay.” He continues. Eddie looks nervous as well, but you don’t mention it, nodding instead, showing him that you’re partially convinced now. Eddie just has that affect on you, and he doesn’t realize it. Everyone else does. Sometimes, to you, he becomes the only person in the room. You don’t know that he feels the exact same way. Looking at you right now, he desperately wants to tell you how everything’s okay, how he loves you and never wants to let you go. But, he can’t, he can’t get himself to say any of it, he needs you to say it first, to give him a sign. He’s oblivious, as oblivious as you.

SEVENEIGHTNINE (1975-1976)
The recording of their first album tested The Six's strength ― not only as a band, but as friends. And Y/n, who had never really been a part of the band during its songwriting process, was quick to realize that there was friction between the same band members again and again. Most notably, Billy and Eddie.
KAREN: Eddie wanted more freedom with what he was playing, Billy thought that since he was the frontman that his word was law...it's the same old story you've heard before. They were in a constant dick measuring contest and neither one of them wanted to admit defeat.
WARREN: Billy was my friend. Eddie was my friend. But when you put them in a room together and told them to make a song, they were the most annoying motherfuckers you'd ever met.
One day after a particularly harrowing songwriting session, the band found themselves back at the house in Laurel Canyon. The place that was usually filled with talk and music was silent, the telltale sign that they had brought work home with them. but what else were they supposed to do? They worked together, they lived together. The lines between work and home were becoming dangerously thin.
Y/n couldn't stand the silence. At her house, there had always been something going on ― her mom would be talking on the phone, someone would come in injured and she'd fix them up. At the very least, she'd keep the television on so she could get a good nights' sleep. But that night it was dead silent. Sickeningly so.
So Y/n got out of bed and wandered into Eddie's room. She didn't acknowledge his presence as she walked in, stopped in place suddenly, and collapsed onto the ground, staring up at the ceiling.
Eddie watched the whole thing from his bed, his guitar in his hands. He expected that maybe she'd say something, start a conversation and whatnot, but she didn't. She just went on, staring at the ceiling as though she had all the time in the world and a perfect reason to be there on the floor.
So he spoke first. "Hi."
"Why can't you just get over things?"
EDDIE: Out of the blue, no hesitation. "Why can't you just get over things?" I knew what she was talking about. Me and Billy had been at each others' throats for weeks, ever since we started writing the damn album. She wanted to know why I couldn't just pack it all in and take the hits as they came.
"Um―"
"Because here's the thing: you guys both have so much pride. Soooooo much. So much it makes me want to slap you guys across the face and remind you that you're human, not gods. And, look, I get it. He walks all over you sometimes and that's not cool. But sometimes it feels like you're pushing back just to be contrarian. Like you don't really disagree with what he's saying, you just disagree with the fact that he's the one saying it. You get my drift?"
EDDIE: Like I said, she doesn't sugarcoat things. She'll tell you what you are and if you don't like it? Tough.
Eddie paused, leaning back. She was right; he knew that much. And maybe he did argue with things just to argue, but so what? They weren't The Dunne Brothers anymore, they were The Six. Implied equal partnership. And still...
"He's thinks it's his band, Y/n."
"Then talk to him about it."
"I can't."
"Why not?" Y/n sat up, a crease formed between her brows.
He wasn't quite expecting that question. But, after a bit of stumbling, he came to what he thought was a reasonable answer: "Because he doesn't listen."
Y/n just looked at him like that was the dumbest thing he had ever said. "Well then make him listen."
"Yeah, alright. and how the hell am I supposed to do that?"
She didn't answer immediately, thinking. Eddie thought for a moment that he might have won.
EDDIE: There wasn't really a way to win an argument with her. Not really.
After a moment she turned to him. "A war isn't just two guys screaming at each other, Ed. They need soldiers, armies. Let me be your army."
"Why?"
"Because I don't like watching you get pushed around. It's kind of...sad."
"Thanks."
"You asked."
They lapsed into silence again. Y/n laid back down on the floor, staring at the cracks in the ceiling. When she spoke again, it was so quiet, Eddie wasn't sure at first if she was talking to him or to herself. "I just...I'm on your side, okay? So don't make it any harder to be."
EDDIE: I never quite got that, you know? "I'm on your side." I had no idea why she'd be on my side. Billy was the frontman, Billy was the guy you looked up to. And there she was, trying to help me out without me even asking. I guess I thought, am I really that pathetic? [Laughs] I probably don't want to know the answer to that. I don't know why she was on my side, I really don't. But it was good to know. Made me feel like, aside from all the melodrama that came with rock n' roll, I had something to hold on to.
Tumblr media
By the time SevenEightNine was done, the CEO of Runner Records, Rich Palentino, was not impressed. In fact, in his opinion, the entire collection of songs they had collectively poured their hearts and souls into, did not have a number one single among it. Teddy Price decided to take things into his own hands, and that's when Daisy Jones got involved.
The plan was to take 'Honeycomb' ― a song Billy had written about the life he had promised Camila ― and add a female vocal onto it, a sort of call and response duet.
Needless to say, Billy was not happy about the arrangement.
GRAHAM: He had just gotten back from rehab and was finally making things right with his wife and his daughter, and they wanted to bring a new chick in to "fix" his song. I can see why he was upset. I just think that he could've handled it better.
EDDIE: He threw a fit. So, naturally, everybody tried to do things to appease him. Graham had the idea that Karen could sing the female part.
KAREN: Like I said, I can back up a chorus, but I can't hold my own.
EDDIE: Y/n was thrown into the mix.
KAREN: Eddie put "Y/n" and "solo" in the same sentence and she looked like she was going to vomit. We moved on.
GRAHAM: Eventually Billy got the gist that Daisy was what we needed. At least, Teddy thought so. And Billy would take Teddy's word over his own any day of the week.
BILLY: I thought, "Fine. If this Daisy girl wants to try it, we'll let her try it."
Daisy was brought into the studio within the next couple of days, marking the first time she ever officially worked with The Six. She was generally well received by all its members (except maybe Billy) and found a fast friend in Y/n.
Firstly, they were the closest in age, and, when you're thrown into a new environment surrounded by strangers, that tends to be what you gravitate towards. That, and Y/n had the special ability of getting the boys to shut up long enough to let her do her thing. That was especially important.
DAISY: The first time I got into that studio to record, the rest of the band crowded at the window, staring at me like I was an elephant in a zoo. It was unsettling. I was probably on the verge of yelling to them to give me some room to breathe when I saw Y/n and Karen dragging them out by their collars, kicking them out of the room until they were the only ones left. That meant a lot.
Despite Billy's every attempt to complain, Honeycomb was released featuring Daisy Jones. Billy was stubbornly pessimistic about the whole thing, of course. And by the time the recording and mixing of 'Honeycomb' was done, it was completely different from the song Billy had first pitched. He felt that his vision had been trod upon in a most disrespectful manner, so much so that, when it was first played, start to finish, for the entire band, the walked out the second the record stopped.
They all watched him go with confusion ― the song was good. It was great, even, but Billy hated it so much that he couldn't even stand to be in the same room as it. And this was before Camila started coming to recording sessions, so no one really wanted to follow him out. Especially not Eddie.
So after the door slammed, they all spent a tense few seconds looking around, sharing confused and annoyed looks over Billy's outburst, and when it became clear that no one was going to do a damn thing about it, Y/n sighed and got up. "Looks like I have to do everything around here, huh?"
She found Billy outside, leaning on the hood of his car, staring at the slowly heating pavement in the California sun. He had his hands crossed over his chest, not unlike a kid who had just gotten his toy taken from him. He didn't look up when Y/n stepped outside, but he spoke the moment she was within earshot: "We're not releasing it."
The reply that came back was a sharp, loud laugh from Y/n. "Fuck you, we're not releasing it. It's a good song. Probably the best one we've ever made."
"You don't get it," Billy shook his head, "that's my song that she's singing. Mine. The one that I wrote about my wife."
"It's not about your wife, Billy," Y/n said. "It's an apology to your wife. You asked us all to make it and we said yes, so don't go acting like you're the goddamn puppet master pulling all the strings. You asked us to make the song, and we said yes. And it's our band. Your song, our band. Sometimes we have to make decisions that don't please your every fucking whim because it's our band and we want to take it as far as we can. And this song, Billy? This is how we do that."
He said nothing, continuing to stare at the ground.
"We're releasing it as soon as we can, and the world is gonna lose its fucking mind. At least you can go home and tell your wife that everyone loves her song."
Billy looked up then, some of his scowl melted away. Y/n grabbed him by the wrist, uncrossing his arms and pulling him back towards the studio. "Now the least you can do is go be civil to your bandmates and to the girl who just made us a number one single."
Eventually she succeeded in dragging him back into the recording booth, to the surprise of everyone already there.
"He threw a fit; I told him to shut up and get over himself. So, when can we release it?" Y/n asked, looking to Teddy.
BILLY: Just like that, she told me to get my act together and got me back in that studio. It was a little harsher than it had to be, but it worked. She had perfected the art of making someone realize how much of an asshole they were being at that point. I think she used it most on me. Occasionally Warren. If it weren't for her, I don't know if I would've gotten back in that studio. Because I don't know if anyone else would've walked out to get me.

Just as Y/n had predicted, 'Honeycomb' quickly sailed to the top of the charts. It generated national attention, with the whole world seeming to suddenly ask the question, Who the hell is The Six?
Daisy Jones had singlehandedly brought them to the top, and it pissed Billy Dunne off to no end.
The rest of the band, however, was enjoying their newfound celebrity. Their album, SevenEightNine, came out soon after, putting them on the road for their first tour ever. Daisy was set to be their opening act ― which, again, did not exactly please Billy. But she was a magnet. Where Daisy went, people seemed to follow.
As the days counted down before they left, they did what they knew best: partying. Y/n, in particular, found herself spending increasingly more and more time with Daisy.
DAISY: Not everyone was on board with me having a hand in the band's success, I knew that. But I had a place at the Marmont that had a pool. And back then, that was all it took to be okay in Y/n's book.
[The following is a transcription from an interview with Rolling Stone. On June 2, 1975, Jonah Berg sat down with Y/n L/n to discuss the band's recent success and life on the road.]
JONAH: Where do you think you'd be right now? If you weren't in a band, I mean?
Y/N: [Pauses. Smiles] Somewhere in the ocean.
JONAH: No thoughts as to a career?
Y/N: You didn't ask about a career. You asked what I'd be doing right now. And that's it ― I'd be in the ocean. And I'd be in whatever career got me there.
[This marks the end of the transcript.]
WARREN: The girl is a fucking fish.
DAISY: She'd go under for as long as she could, come up for a single breath, and go back under again. Over and over and over. You can't get a single word in that girl's ears when she's in the water.
KAREN: Y/n had a habit of getting...obsessed. With people, with music, whatever it was that caught her interest and held it. And Daisy...[pauses] Daisy did that.
EDDIE: I'm not so sure it was a great thing that Daisy and Y/n became friends when they did.

In Laurel Canyon, Y/n was often the first to come home. In fact, whenever another band member stumbled in, they could most likely count on the fact that if they shouted, "Y/n, I'm home!" they'd hear her yell "Good. Go to sleep!" in response. But that night, it was not the case.
After all the band members had returned for the night, Y/n was still at the Marmont with Daisy. Her hair and clothes were still drying from when she had jumped in the pool an hour previous ― well, she either jumped or she was pushed. She couldn't quite remember now.
Dozens of people had crowded around the pool, drinking and doing whatever drugs came their way. More than once, Daisy and Y/n would stop their stroll to knock back some pills passed their way or do a line off a pool table. Y/n started to wonder what time she had to get home when she noticed Oh, the sun is coming up. Has the sun always been that purple?
"Daisy, what time is it?" she asked, looking to her left. But Daisy had disappeared. There was a splash, and suddenly Daisy was floating in the pool with her nicest Caftan dress billowing around her. She looked like some kind of mystical sea nymph, or so Y/n thought.
"DJ!" Y/n yelled at her, catching her attention. "I need to go home."
Daisy, of course, wouldn't hear of it. Parties didn't end until she thought they were over. "No, no come on! Just stay a little longer!"
"I can't, I...we have rehearsal in the morning."
Daisy sighed, splashing somewhat disappointedly. "Mkay. Fine," she sighed, swimming over to the edge, "can you at least help me out?"
She held a hand out, which Y/n took. Stupid decision, of course. Daisy just pulled her into the pool, causing an eruption of cheers around them.
As she hit the water, Y/n briefly thought that she had some reason to be upset with Daisy, but she couldn't quite remember why. Within a moment, all discomfort had disappeared, completely forgotten, and she was perfectly ready to stay as long as Daisy wanted.
That was, until she came up for air and saw Billy standing there at the edge of the pool.
For a moment, Y/n just stared up at him blankly. Then, she splashed water on him. He looked at her in confusion and she explained, "I had to make sure you were really there and I wasn't just making you up."
"Y/n, it's time to go." he said.
"Oooookay," she said slowly. "I'll get a taxi in a little bit."
"No, this isn't some kind of courtesy call. It's time to go now."
Y/n huffed in response, swimming over to the side. She was too tired (or doped up) to argue. Really, Billy's presence reminded her that she had a house with her own bed. And she realized right then how much she really, really wanted to be in bed.
"Who told you I was here?" she said as she attempted to hoist herself out of the pool.
"Eddie did," Billy replied, helping her out. "Something about you not knocking."
"That son of a bitch," she muttered. "Where is he?"
"Back at the house. Asleep."
"I want Eddie. Get him here."
"You'll see him in the morning."
Y/n, not satisfied with that answer, pushed Billy away, anger curling her hands into fists. "I don't need you to tell me what to do, Billy. I'm a fucking adult. I know when I've reach my limits."
Billy looked at her. Mascara and eyeliner had traced gray lines down her face. Her hair and clothes were soaking wet, clinging to her, dripping onto the pavement. For a second, the hardened look on her face reminded Billy of the day she wandered into their garage and stole the drum sticks straight from Chuck's hands. She didn't look much older now than she did then.
"Just get in the goddamn car."
"No."
"Get in the car."
"No!"
"Y/n, you're bleeding."
She looked down suddenly and noticed a deep cut on her right hand. She frowned at it, but didn't seem that surprised at its existence. "That was there when I got here."
Billy more or less forced her into the passenger seat of the car, where she hung her hand out of the window, letting the blood drip onto the pavement rather than onto the seats.
In the less than ten minute drive home, Y/n talked until she was laughing hysterically at her own jokes, stuck her head out the window and howled at the moon, and finally sat in silence long enough that she started to cry.
Eddie woke up that night to a book hitting him in the face. He jolted awake, looking around wildly. And then, in the dead silence of his room, Y/n's voice came from the doorway. "Snitch."
She shut the door after that, and he heard her stumbling footfalls down the hallway.
And while that should've been the last time Y/n partied with Daisy, it wasn't. She went the next night, and the night after that. The knocks on Eddie's wall became less and less frequent until they stopped all together.
Daisy became her favorite pastime.
"You're in love with Eddie, right?" Daisy asked. They were both lying on the ground outside at the Marmont, letting their heads hang over the pool so that only their hair soaked in the water.
At her question, Y/n shot up, her wet hair drenching her back with cold water instantly. "What?"
"Oh, sorry," Daisy said, still hanging there. "I just thought...you know..."
Y/n did not, in fact, know. She turned to Daisy, a crease formed between her brows. "Why would you think that?"
Daisy sat up then, her impossibly long hair acting like a weight that she had to struggle against to sit up. "You're always lookin' at him when you're rehearsing. At a certain point it was like...I could count on the fact that when I walked into the studio, you'd be right next to him."
As Daisy spoke, Y/n felt herself frowning deeper and deeper. Eddie...Eddie was her best friend. That was for sure. He was the one she went to when she wanted to talk to someone.
Three thoughts emerged as Daisy talked.
One: I am not in love with Eddie Roundtree.
Two: I'm in love with Eddie Roundtee.
Three: It's so obvious it's sad.
Daisy kept talking, oblivious to her sudden revelation. "I get it, you know? If you really like him, you should just go for it. He's a nice guy, and he looks at you as much as you look at him."
Y/n excused herself then, claiming she felt sick. Well, that was mostly true ― she did feel sick. But not the type of sick that drinking generally made her. The kind of sick that came from thinking too hard, too quickly.
But instead of coming back, she left the Marmont, walking home with bare feet. She was still dripping with pool water, freezing her ass off the whole way home, but she was too deep in her own head to really realize it.
She made it back just as the sun was starting to come up, falling asleep on the couch rather than in her room. She slept fitfully, waking up every half hour or so thinking she had said something in her sleep that she couldn't take back.
The next night, she didn't go back to Daisy's. In fact, when Eddie heard Y/n's bedroom door shut before midnight, he frowned, wondering momentarily if she had just imagined it. Then, to test the theory, he knocked. It was the tune to the newest song by the Kinks. He didn't think too long about the song, really, he just wanted a response.
For a moment, none came. He waited patiently, silently, for any response. There was none.
Sighing, he settled back down on his bed, deciding that that was the last time he'd knock. There was no point in knocking to no response.
But a few moments later, the response came ― this time at his bedroom door.
He paused, sitting up, part of him wondering if he'd completely imagined it. Either way, he had to check. He got up, leaving his bass on the bed, heading to the door. He opened it and Y/n stood in the doorway, hair still wet from a shower.
"Hi," she said quietly.
"Hi."
And then, before he had the chance to say anything else, she stood on her toes and kissed him. He was so taken by surprise that he practically froze as he kissed her back, only to be unfrozen by her pushing him further into the room and kicking the door shut behind them.
Tumblr media
EDDIE:  [Pauses. Takes a deep breath] Oh, wow. Um. Yeah, sure. Yes. I did…I did love Camila. But, everyone loved Camila, you know? Maybe it was…at one point I thought maybe…[pauses] it’s not important. The love I had for Camila…it was painful. It was so much stuff that had nowhere to go, so it just sat. Weighed me down. And Y/n was the first person who, I don’t know, made it lighter.
The next morning when Y/n woke up, she was clearheaded for what felt like the first time in years. The sunlight didn't make her head pound, she didn't feel nauseated, and she didn't have to check herself to see if she'd acquired any news injuries from the night before.
When she rolled over, Eddie was there, still asleep. Her lips parted slightly at the sudden reminder that the previous night hadn't been a dream. And the reminder of Eddie's presence next to her reminded her that there were, in fact, several other people in the house.
She sat up and saw Eddie's shirt at the edge of the bed. She reached for it, leaning over and tapping Eddie on the shoulder. "Hey," she said. He stirred a bit. She held up the shirt. "Can I borrow this?"
"'Course." he responded sleepily. "You leaving?"
"Oh, don't worry. I won't be far. Just down the hall" she said with a smile. He laughed slightly at that, and she gave him a quick kiss on the side of his lips. She tried to get up then, but Eddie caught her wrist, pulling her back down to him. He wrapped an arm around her, pressing his lips to hers. She found herself smiling as he kissed her, a chill running down her spine.
Eventually he let her go and she slipped his shirt over her head. She went for the door, pausing before opening it. "We're going to talk about this later, by the way."
Eddie frowned. "What's there to talk about?"
She paused, thinking. "Maybe talk is the wrong word for it."
She gave him a sly smile, causing him to roll his eyes and bury his head in his pillow. She laughed quietly, opening the door as quietly as she could and shutting it behind her. And as she went to walk into the hallways, she saw Warren standing there, a beer can in one hand.
WARREN: She looked at me with this doe in headlights look, and I just knew she was going to ask, so I told her before she had the chance.
"We have thin walls."
WARREN: Man, the look on her face right then. [Laughs] Priceless. I was so drunk the night before, I didn’t hear shit, but one look at her—the messy hair, the smudged makeup—you just knew. I was happy for ‘em. For once it felt like I wasn’t waiting for the shoe to drop, you know? It just…dropped. I was happy for them.
Y/n said nothing to him, simply turning and walking away, causing Warren to chuckle to himself.
Tumblr media
Billy and Camila moved out of the house in Laurel Canyon soon thereafter, wanting to have a home to call their own. That left the more, well, irresponsible band members to themselves.
One day, Warren returned to the house to find Graham, Karen, Eddie, and Y/n on the back porch, slumped in chairs, staring at the air in front of them like they were waiting for something.
"What are you guys on and can I have some?"
WARREN: It was mescaline, because of course it was.
"How long does it take to kick in?" Warren asked.
Karen shrugged. "Depends on the person."
A few seconds later, Warren suddenly stood up, stumbling slightly. "Whoa..."
Y/n giggled, then frowned. She moved her head back and forth, side to side, like she was weighing it. "Guys, my head is getting really heavy. Too heavy. How much should my brain weigh? Can brains gain weight? Do I have an overweight brain and I didn't notice it until now?"
"If you had an overweight brain, you wouldn't have failed math." Warren said. "Now, I-I feel on a molecular level, you know, like me and the canyon, we are..." he trailed off, then clapped, "Ha! No, we're the same, man."
Karen laughed. "Warren and Y/n are feeling it, clearly."
Graham laughed, and then suddenly he went slack, eyes wide. "Oh shit..." he put his hand over his stomach, "I can't feel my heart."
As Karen went to make sure his heart was actually beating (which, of course, it was ― he was just looking in the wrong place for it), Y/n turned her attention to Eddie. He was staring at his hands like it was the first time he was seeing them. She looked at her own, waving them in the air like she was trying not to hurt the air.
Y/n and Eddie had kept their, well, for lack of a better word, tryst, from the rest of the band members. Except, of course, Warren who had found out completely by mistake. As Y/n inspected her hands, she let one fall to the side, landing on Eddie's thigh.
He looked at her, eyebrows raised. She bit her lip to hide a smile.
"No, Graham, it's there."
"Karen, I can't feel my heart. It's gone, man."
Y/n slid her hand further up his thigh, trying her best not to giggle at the way he tried to keep his cool under her touch.
"Can-Can we call a doctor or something?"
"Graham. Move your hand up."
Graham frowned, looking down. Then moved his hands to the correct place and, upon feeling his heart beating steadily underneath his palms, sighed in relief. "Oh. Thanks."
Eddie suddenly stood up, startling all of them. Without a word, he took Y/n by the hand, pulling her back inside. Y/n giggled then, already going to unbutton her shirt.
Karen and Graham watched them go in confusion. "What the hell is up with them?" Graham asked as the door shut behind them.
Warren just raised his half empty beer can in their direction. "L'Chaim," the declared, then drank it all in one sip.

Thanks to Honeycomb, The Six had been put on the map. They were touring for their first album with Daisy Jones as their opening act. It was on that tour that they all got their first taste of real fame of screaming crowds and fanatic fans.
Towards the end of the tour, the decision was made that Daisy would join the band, and they would soon become known as Daisy Jones & The Six. After the tour, they were on their way to creating their first album with Daisy on the team.
EDDIE: Things were perfect. Well, I didn’t think they were perfect at the time. I still wasn’t getting along with Billy, I didn’t feel like I had any creative control, I basically felt like a second-class citizen even though I had been there from the beginning. But I had Y/n, and the band was successful. If I had been able to put down my pride and look at my life from a couple steps back, I probably would have thought, damn…this ain’t bad.           I never really guessed how bad things would go downhill after that.

On October 4, 1977, Daisy Jones & The Six performed to a sold out crowd at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. They were one of the biggest bands in the world at the time, fresh off their award-winning, multi-platinum selling album “Aurora.” It would be their final performance.
In the 20 years since, members of the band and their inner circle have refused to speak on the record about what happened… Until now.
THE RISE OF THE SIX (1966-1972)
The Six started out as a blues-rock band called the Dunne Brothers in the mid-sixties out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Billy and Graham Dunne were raised by single mother, Marlene Dunne, after their father, William Dunne Sr., left in 1954.
BILLY DUNNE (lead singer, The Six): I always dreamed of something different than the typical laid out career paths. When Graham first got the idea to start a band, I assumed it was just to win back his girlfriend. He was, what fourteen? The kid thought his life was over. [Laughs] I guess in retrospect, maybe it was a good idea.
WARREN ROJAS (drummer, The Six): He was definitely trying to get his girlfriend back.
GRAHAM DUNNE (lead guitar, The Six): We were solid, fine for a while. When Chuck quit, we were out a bassist, which isn’t really something you can do without in a band. Billy originally wanted Eddie to switch to bass, but he wasn’t too keen on that.
EDDIE ROUNDTREE (rhythmic guitar, The Six): I was so sick of Billy trying to run the band, it wasn’t his band, or at least, it wasn’t supposed to be.
WARREN ROJAS: There was this girl in my math class, her uncle owned a music store downtown, and she used to give lessons to kids on weekends, it was mostly just some scheme by her uncle to get people to buy guitars.
BILLY DUNNE: She was a sophomore, a young sophomore at that, she wasn’t even 16 by the time she joined, I was a year out of high school and the rest of the boys are creeping on 17 and 18, she just didn’t fit. Warren gets all the boys on board before bringing the idea up to me so I look like the asshole if I say no, I wanted to say no too, but she was good and I didn’t have another option.
EDDIE ROUNDTREE: She didn’t even show an interest in being in the band, she wasn’t begging us to give her a chance, we were near-stalking her at the music store, waiting for the perfect opportunity to hear her play and casually bring up that we happened to need a bassist.
JULIET OPAL (bassist/singer, The Six): They weren’t nearly as sly as they thought they were. I originally thought it was some attempt at stealing records or 8-tracks, y’know waiting until I wasn’t looking, but they kept coming back, seemingly just waiting for me to do something, what it was I didn’t know, but something.
EDDIE ROUNDTREE: [Sighs] They decided I would be the one to talk to her.
The shop’s bell rang, signaling the door had been opened, which swung Juliet’s attention away from the magazine she was skimming and up to the front of the store, peering through the aisles to see who entered. A boy, one she recognized from the creeping on her from the previous weeks, made himself visible and she was immediately on high alert. He approached the counter, swallowing nerves as he did, and cleared his throat.
“Hi,” his voice was hoarse, she took the awkward silence as a moment to study him, he wore a striped shirt, loose jeans, and brown shoes, his hair could use a comb through. He extended his hand, “I’m Eddie, I think we go to school together.”
“Juliet,” she met his hand, “is that why you’re here, to tell me that we might go to school together? Or is there an ulterior motive, one that may explain why you and your friends have been spying on me the past week,” any speck of confidence Eddie had going into this was entirely gone.
“I’m in a band with some friends and our bassist bailed on us pretty recently. My friend, Warren, he’s a junior like me, I think he’s in your math class, said he saw you play bass and that you were good. We just wanted to see you play before we formally asked.”
“Formally asked what?” She leaned up from her elbows that she had been propped on.
“Oh, to, uh, like,” he stopped himself, licking his lips and sighing, “would you want to maybe play bass for us?” His eyes instantly went to his shoes and he stuffed his hands inside his pockets.
“Can I have a little more info maybe? It’s not personal, I just don’t know you, like at all and you could be the worst players for all I know.”
EDDIE ROUNDTREE: That one hurt, something about a younger kid who you have a solid five inches on insinuating that she’s better than you are, especially when you’re practically on your knees begging for her to help you out can feel like salt being rubbed into a fresh wound.
JULIET OPAL: What else was I supposed to do? [Laughs] Just blindly follow the older boy who had been spying on me for a week to the alleged garage that he practices in with his alleged band and hope for the best? I paid attention in the stranger-danger assemblies, I knew better.
EDDIE ROUNDTREE: I invited her back to Billy and Graham’s but she said she had to close up for her uncle. Once we were out in L.A. she told me she actually just didn’t wanna leave with me and in hindsight, I can’t say I blame her.
The following morning Juliet and the Dunne Brothers skipped their first period and met in the Dunne’s garage. Juliet studied the wads of scribbled sheet music Billy had handed to her without looking her in the eye and she didn’t miss the way Eddie rolled his eyes at his hostility, and Eddie didn’t miss the way her upper lip curled into a smile as she saw his reaction.
After rifling through the stack of papers, she picked out one at random, and set it down on the table in front of her, leaning over to scan in a few times before pulling the strap of her guitar over her head. She looked over to the group of boys, standing huddled together with Billy noticeably further away and Warren nodded fervently at her with a grin overtaking her face.
After she played through the song, Billy made her play another, and another, and two more after that ‘for safety.’ Once he had run out of excuses for her to keep playing, he asked her to step out of the garage so they could confer with each other. After seven minutes and two overheard “c’mon man”s from Warren, Juliet was invited back into the garage and to serve as a temporary bass for the band, just until Billy could come to his final decision.
JULIET OPAL: He was stubborn even then, I’m honestly surprised he let me in.
BILLY DUNNE: I didn’t want to let her in the band.
EDDIE ROUNDTREE: I wanted her in the band, I made sure Billy knew that.
JULIET OPAL: A week after I joined, we were playing a gig with the Winters.
The group stood backstage, listening to the music that was permeating into every corner of the room. Juliet stood sandwiched between Warren and Camila, listening to the band. They had a keyboardist, she caught Juliet’s eye once they had got backstage, when they finished playing and she got offstage, Juliet made a beeline for her, introducing herself.
“I’m Karen,” she introduced herself, “you play with these guys?”
“Mhm, I’m on bass right now, but in an ideal world I’d steal Eddie over there’s job,” she pointed to him and he smiled back, nodding his head up at her, unknowingly, “I won’t though, kinda like him, at least more than I do Billy,” Karen nodded, opening her mouth to excuse herself from the conversation, “y’know I’ve been saying we need a keyboardist.”
“Have you now?” That piqued her interest she stopped in her tracks and smirked over her shoulder.
“No,” she admitted, “but I’ve been thinking it.” Billy hollered her name, gesturing her over to the group, who were making their way onstage. She pulled a receipt with a phone number scribbled across it in black ink and handed it to Karen, “If you ever get sick of them, give me a call, I’ll put in a good word for you.”
“Do you always carry around drug store receipts with your phone number on them?”
“You never know who you might meet,” she shrugged and started sprinting towards the stage before calling out over her shoulder, “worked out this time. Wish me luck!”
KAREN SIRKO (keyboardist, The Six): She was so.. vivacious, so full of life. She apoke about a million miles a minute, if I wasn’t fully interested in what she was saying, I don’t think I would’ve caught a word of it. You have this young girl talking your ear off, she seems entirely sure of herself, but also still feels a need to prove to you that she deserves to be there.
JULIET OPAL: I liked Karen, how could I not? And based on the way events would play out, clearly I wasn’t the only one.
WARREN ROJAS: It was a great gig, Julie did great, not that we weren’t expecting her to, we were just worried about her, she had never done anything in front of a crowd before, but she did everything that actually counted right.
EDDIE ROUNDTREE: On the drive home she sat next to me and she told me I played well, then she leaned in and kinda whispered and she thanked me. She thanked me for being the one to ask her to join because she would’ve said no to anyone else. [Smiles]

There were several things about your work that amazed you, the way you were able to architect the writers' ideas, harmonize the actors' chemistry, bring the writing to life in front of the studio camera lens and provide a magnificent work of entertainment for the audience. You've always loved directing works since you entered the theater universe, there was a connection backstage where magic was created that you always felt like you belonged and that's when you decided to architect your career.
It didn't take you long to grow in the middle, of course things weren't handed to you on a platter, but with the sweat and talent you've been developing since you were very young, the steps were taken to where you are now. On your way here, you had already worked on some big projects, and that's when you met Sam Claflin.
You were relatively young when you first met, and from the very beginning, there was an undeniable connection between you. Your hearts synchronized effortlessly, causing palpable excitement in your chest every time he was near. His smile held a magnetic charm, capable of illuminating even the darkest of moments, and his infectious laughter made you feel an instant sense of belonging by his side. When his gaze met yours, the entire world faded away, leaving only the two of you in a timeless bubble of affection.
But despite the deep bond you shared, the path of your love was not without obstacles. You both tried to navigate the complexities of a romantic relationship, eagerly embracing the love that blossomed between you. However, as time went on, it became apparent that a formidable challenge loomed over your connection—geographical distance.
Sam, you see, had other recordings in a faraway country, a responsibility that demanded his presence in a distant land. The physical separation took its toll, stretching the limits of your love and testing its resilience. The enchanting power of Sam's smile and the laughter that once echoed through your shared moments now seemed distant, like faint echoes from a place you could no longer reach.
The voice inside Sam, which had once proclaimed that there was no one who could compare to you, now grew quieter, suppressed by the weight of the distance between you. The inexplicable connection you once shared began to fade, like a whisper carried away by the wind, as the physical space between you expanded.
Though your hearts ached for each other, the universe seemed determined to keep you apart. The jolt of electricity that surged through your veins when your hands touched was now overshadowed by the vast expanse of the world that separated you. The warmth of Sam's embrace, once a sanctuary, now felt out of reach, leaving an ache in your heart that couldn't be eased.
You both fought valiantly to keep the flame of your love alive, attempting to bridge the distance with late-night calls, heartfelt messages, and promises of reunion. But the strain grew too heavy, and the burden of distance proved insurmountable. Despite the love that still lingered, the circumstances forced you to make a painful decision.
And so, with heavy hearts, you realized that the physical separation had taken its toll, placing an unrelenting strain on the fragile threads that held your love together. You chose to part ways, knowing that it was the only way to preserve what remained of your hearts.
It hadn't been a breakup due to fights, or very drastic disagreements, but aiming at the good of both of you, a way of understanding that even though you loved each other, it was necessary to let destiny trace its paths. And it took a while, but it happened.
When you received the script for Daisy Jones and the six you were delighted with the project and the idea of the adaptation finally, you had already read Taylor Jenkins Reid's books and were a big fan of her work so you jumped right on the idea. When you guys started working on the casting and testing the connection between the actors it took a long time to find the ideal actor for Billy Dunne, and when you saw that well-known figure walk through the audition door your heart skipped a beat just like the first time.
There he was, his short hair, that characteristic smile that captivated everyone in that room, you try to maintain your serenity but lose all your posture when those eyes link to yours. He looks surprised to see you but tries to contain it, you can tell by the way his eyebrows come together so discreetly that it's a detail that probably only you noticed. It doesn't take long for Riley to join you and spend the monologue with Claflin, watching him perform has always been and always will be a privilege, the way he embodies the character wonderfully makes anyone stop what they're doing just to see him.
By the time he finished you knew you had the perfect Billy Dunne.
When you started to live together again on set, you knew that there wouldn't be a rancorous past between you, quite the contrary, it was as if you slowly allowed yourselves to get closer as before. Sam always admired your work a lot, for him it was sensational to work with you and let his character be guided on screen by your instructions and scene reading. You guys were quite a team and that conviviality soon reminded you of why you felt so connected to him.
You feared that it was something in your head for a moment, that you had identified something that was no longer there, that your memories were so vivid when you looked at him that it was difficult to distinguish if it was your delirium. After all, he was always close to everyone at work, wasn't he? It was common for everyone on set to feel that connection... Right?
Deep down you knew it wasn't, that despite not believing in the mysticism that surrounded all the romantic stories out there, he made you think that there was indeed an invisible thread tying your souls. He made you think about the unimaginable just by hovering over any thought where you could be together, and whether or not you fed those possibilities... Yearning to be with him as you already were.
During one of the breaks in the recording, you found yourselves alone, away from the bustling set, immersed in a moment of solitude. The air hung with a sense of familiarity, as if time had momentarily transported you back to the days when your connection was at its peak. Sam watched you from time to time while he threw some small pebbles on the ground, and you felt butterflies in your stomach with his gaze on you.
As you and Sam sat together, a smile tugging at the corners of your lips, you couldn't help but feel a rush of nostalgia. The memories flooded back, and you began to share stories from the day and eventually you couldn't help but bring up the past, the words flowing freely between you.
"You remember that time when we got stuck in that small town during shooting?" you asked, a glint of excitement in your eyes.
Sam chuckled, his voice tinged with fondness. "Of course I do! We thought it would be a disaster, but it turned out to be one of the most memorable nights. Everything cooperated so that we didn't lose the week of work, but that we had some challenges I won't deny."
The laughter that had once filled the air returned, weaving through your conversation like a symphony of joy. It was as if the barriers that had kept you apart had crumbled, leaving only the raw essence of your bond.
With each shared memory, a cascade of emotions washed over you. The anecdotes flowed effortlessly, punctuated by genuine laughter and shared glances that spoke volumes.
"You always had a way of making even the most mundane moments unforgettable," Sam remarked, a hint of admiration in his voice, his comment made your heart skip a beat. "I cherished every second we spent together."
You couldn't help but smile, your heart swelling with warmth. "You don't stay behind one bit, with your incredible ability to bring out the best in everyone. Your unwavering support and belief in my work meant the world to me."
As you spoke, the walls that had guarded your hearts seemed to dissolve, allowing vulnerability to seep in. There was a comfort in knowing that you could trust each other with the depths of your emotions, that your connection had withstood the test of time.
In that moment of vulnerability, the invisible thread that bound your souls seemed to grow stronger. It was as if the universe had conspired to bring you together, to give you a chance to relive the moments that had once set your hearts ablaze.
The conversation danced between nostalgia and hope, threading together fragments of the past with the possibility of a future that had yet to be written. The yearning in your voices, the warmth in your gazes, all conveyed an unspoken desire to reclaim what had been lost, to rewrite the story of your love.
"I've missed this, you know," Sam confessed, his voice filled with a mix of longing and regret. "The ease I have with you, where I know I can share all my thoughts, the way we understand each other without saying a word. It's a connection unlike any other."
Your eyes met, and the unspoken words hung heavy in the air. The depth of your bond was palpable, and in that stolen moment, surrounded by the echoes of memories, you found solace in each other's presence.
You take a deep breath, looking deep into his eyes that seem to pull you into that paradise. "I hope you don't think I'm crazy for what I'm going to say..." You laugh, looking away to the horizon. “I could search far and wide but no one could ever make me feel the way you do. It’s always you, and I think it will always be you.”
He opens a small smile, his hands go to your cheek and he makes you look at him again you feel that no matter what happens, those eyes that make you lose yourself are your way back. You can't contain the laugh that comes out of your mouth, stroking his hand over your face.
“I think we’re one of those rare things deserving of a second chance.” You whisper with a small smile.
"We are one thing, for sure." He slowly approaches you and you anxiously want him to break that distance soon. “I wanna make us work again, if you’re willing.”
“God, of course I’m willing.” His smile was wide and he shifted his gaze to her lips as a silent question. "Can I?"
"Please" You say, getting closer to him.
As Sam's lips meet yours, a wave of emotions surges through your being. It's a kiss filled with longing, the culmination of years spent apart and the hope for a future together. The world around you fades into insignificance as the intensity of your connection envelops you both.
His touch is tender yet passionate, his hands cradling your face, as if trying to imprint every sensation onto his memory. The taste of his lips is familiar, a bittersweet reminder of what you had once shared and what you now have the chance to reclaim.
In that single moment, time seems to stand still. The gentle breeze carries the soft sighs of two souls finding solace in each other's arms. The warmth of the sun caresses your skin, mirroring the warmth that blossoms within your hearts.
It's a kiss that speaks volumes—a testament to the unbreakable bond between you. With each brush of his lips against yours, the weight of the past lifts, replaced by a renewed sense of hope and possibility. The electricity that courses through your veins is a testament to the undeniable chemistry that exists between you, reignited in this tender embrace.
The world around you blurs, and it's just the two of you, locked in a timeless moment of pure love and longing. The kiss deepens, fueled by the unspoken promise of a second chance, a commitment to make things work this time around.
As you finally break apart, breathless and smiling, your eyes meet, and it's as if a universe of unspoken promises lies within that gaze. You know that this kiss is just the beginning—a rekindling of a love story that never truly ended but was simply waiting for the right moment to be rewritten.
In this stolen moment, the power of your connection is reaffirmed. And as you hold each other, your hearts beating in synchrony, you know that together you can overcome any obstacle that may come your way, for your love is stronger than the distance and stronger than the challenges that once stood between you.
This kiss, filled with hope and the promise of a future, becomes a symbol of your commitment to one another, a beacon guiding you towards a love that is meant to be, a love that will endure.

Always Choose You - Eddie Roundtree x Female Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: You and Eddie were never meant to be more than a fling. So, why did you both keep coming back?
Includes: implied sex, alcohol and drug use, adult language
Note: The bolded names followed by a colon represent interview dialogue like from in the book.
The first time you met Eddie was at some gig he played with The Six. It was before Look At Us Now had blown up and they’d flown to stardom. No, you met him back in the days of small clubs on the Strip.
The band had just finished playing, you’d had a few drinks (and therefore some liquid courage in your blood), and you went for it. As soon as the cute bassist headed to the bar himself, you sauntered over.
“You were great up there. I’ve always wanted to play music like that.” You smiled and slid into the seat next to him.
He returned your grin and took a sip of his drink. “Ah thanks, we’ve been at it for a while now. I’m Eddie, by the way.”
“Pleasure to meet you, Eddie. I’m Y/N. Have you all been in town long, I can’t say I’ve seen you play before.”
He shook his head. “We’re from Pittsburgh. Kind of took a leap of faith coming down here, but I think we’re all happy we did it.”
You noticed as he glanced quickly over at the side of the bar. The singer of his band was talking with a beautiful brunette, but you could tell he was more focused on the girl than his friend. He looked back to you after almost a split second though, and you were almost convinced you made it up.
“Well, cheers to your success, I’m glad it’s working out for you guys.” You chuckled and clinked your glass with his.
You and Eddie flirted a bit more, drank a bit more, and at the end of the night he climbed into a taxi with you. Your roommate was out for the weekend, so you had an empty apartment and a hot guy at the ready. A nice one night stand could be just what you needed.
————————
It never occurred to you that you’d see him again. Hell, you’d practically forgotten him after all that time had passed. Not that the two of you didn’t have a great night together, you were just both a little drunk and it was just once, so it never really crossed your mind.
But then here you were, at a party for your roommate’s friend. She hadn’t told you much detail about the party, just that her friend Camila was hosting a housewarming party of sorts and she wanted you to come along as her guest. It gave you an excuse to get dressed up and it sounded fun, so you agreed without much thought.
Your roommate, Sarah, introduced you to Camila and her husband Billy when you first arrived. Something seemed vaguely familiar about them, but you figured it was just because Billy’s band was famous and there was buzz about them everywhere. Still, you felt like maybe there was something else about them. As Camila and Sarah got caught up in conversation, you politely excused yourself to go grab a drink.
The house was full of people and you felt slightly like you were in a maze. Luckily, you wove your way to the bar area and were able to acquire a beer.
You decided the next stop should be the patio out back. It was getting a little stuffy and some fresh air sounded perfect. You were on your way to the back door when someone stumbled into you from behind.
“Oh shit, my bad.” The man said immediately.
You turned and gave him a small smile. “It’s all good, no worries.”
“Jesus Warren, I leave you alone for like five minutes and you’re already stumbling around aimlessly,” a familiar voice chuckled as another man strolled up beside him.
Holy fuck. As you glanced over at his friend, you realized you knew this guy. This was that bar guy from God knows how long ago.
It looked like said guy was having the same realization, or at least some kind of epiphany. His eyes narrowed slightly as he turned to really look at you.
“I think I know you from somewhere.” He muttered.
Eddie: Okay, I know it sounds bad, but I promise I didn’t forget about her. It had been a long time. Besides, apparently she couldn’t even remember my name, so we were both a little drunk that night.
Warren: I was high as shit, and I could definitely tell he didn’t recognize her. It’s funny to think about that now, God I can’t even imagine.
His friend-Warren- elbowed him with a laugh. “You can’t pick up chicks with that cheesy ass line, brother. No one is gonna fall for that shit.”
You kind of wished you had some of whatever this guy was on because he was clearly high as a kite and having a grand old time.
“Oh, I don’t know.” You let out a quiet, nervous laugh. You weren’t about to explain that you two had fucked and never spoken again once like a year or so ago.
“No, we have met before…” He trailed off in thought, but then his eyebrows shot up as it clicked. “Did you hang around the Sunset Strip by any chance?”
You downed what was left of your drink and nodded. “Yeah, I used to. I think you’ve put that together, though. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to grab another of these.” You held up the empty bottle and spun on your heel.
Thankfully, the house had several exits, so you were able to grab your beer and slip out back unnoticed. Well, at least you thought you were.
“Hey, can I talk to you?”
Bar guy came up beside you and gestured to the empty seat beside you. You felt like shit for this, but you couldn’t remember his name. Fred, maybe? God, you didn’t sleep around that much, you should be able to keep track of this.
“Sure,” You shrugged. You do remember him being a nice guy, so you weren’t opposed to hearing him out.
He hesitantly sat down. “Listen, I feel like I should apologize. I’m sorry it took me a minute to recognize you, and…well, I’m sorry I kind of disappeared from your place right after we…” His voice started trailing off when you started chuckling. “What’s funny?”
You felt your face flush and you waved a hand. “No, no, it’s not you, I promise. You really don’t have to apologize for anything, that’s why I was laughing. We slept together after I met you at a bar, I didn’t exactly expect us to grow old together.”
He was chuckling now too. “Yeah, I guess you’re right. I just didn’t want you to think I was an ass or something. Can we start over?”
“Y/N. It’s nice to meet you.” You smiled and held out your hand for him to shake.
“Eddie, and likewise.”
Eddie! So you were kind of close earlier. Truth be told though, this was one of the weirdest encounters with a hookup that you’d ever had. Normally, you wouldn’t dream of interacting with someone afterwards, but something about this guy was different. You kind of liked talking to him, and you remember feeling like that the first time you met him too.
————————
You woke up in a room that was definitely not yours, which caused a little bolt of panic to shoot through you. It only took a second for it to all come flooding, thankfully.
Somehow, you had decided it was a good idea to go home with Eddie last night. Again. That definitely was not in your plan. You weren’t in the habit of dragging out one night stands, but it looks like you had a repeat. You two wound up hanging out for most of the party last night, and you were talking, then you were kissing, and now you were here. But God, was he a good repeat. To be honest, when you snuck a glance down at his sleeping face beside you, all you could think about was that he was kind of beautiful.
A knocking came from the door and it nearly startled you out of bed.
“Eddie! We gotta leave for the studio, man! Billy wants us there in an hour!”
You looked down and realized you were bare ass naked, and immediately lunged for your clothes. You weren’t sure if Eddie’s roommate would just barge in, but you were not about to be caught naked if he did. Immediate relief flooded through you as you pulled on your dress and heard footsteps as the guy walked away from the door, but you were mostly amazed by the fact that none of this had actually woken Eddie.
This was actually kind of worse. Now you had to make a choice. Did you leave unnoticed or did you wake him up and face the morning after conversation. You really didn’t want to talk. You hooked up once and then again, it was a weird string of events that you couldn’t hash out right now. Unfortunately, he showed no signs of waking up and you’d feel really bad if he was late to his band thing.
With a sigh you stepped over to the bed and shook his shoulder gently. Then you shook it a little less gently. This man could sleep through a fucking tornado.
Finally, he sat up and rubbed his face. “Hmm? Oh, mornin’...”
You quickly wiped off the tiny smile that threatened to overtake your face. Thinking he looked cute, all sleepy in the morning, was not a road you needed to go down. “Hey, your friend just knocked and said Billy wants you at the studio in an hour. You seemed pretty out of it, so I just wanted to let you know before I left.”
He muttered something about “he’s such an asshole” under his breath before looking back up at you. “Thanks, I appreciate it.”
“Yeah, no problem,” You nodded as nonchalantly as possible. “Well, I’m going to head out now. Um, thanks…for last night.”
The second the words left your mouth, you knew how stupid it all sounded. You used to be pretty smooth, but apparently that was temporary. You had to get out of there before you made it worse. You grabbed your purse and strode hurriedly for the door, but before you were outside, Eddie shouted.
“Hey, wait!”
You looked back over your shoulder at him as he pulled on a pair of flannel pajama bottoms and started over to you. “Yeah?”
“Listen, um, I had fun last night. And I like you.” He combed a hand through his wild hair.
He looked like he wanted to keep going, but you cut him off first. “I’m not really looking for a relationship.” You blurted the words before you could think, and they left a curiously bitter taste in your mouth.
He looked mildly surprised at the outburst, but then shook his head. “I’m not either, actually. Honestly, I’m kind of getting over someone else right now. Stop me if I’m out of line here, but I was wondering if you might want to do this again sometime. All I’m saying is I had fun, and if you had fun too, then could I get your number? I promise I’m not proposing we grow old together here.”
You chuckled at his reference to your conversation last night. You had to agree with him. Last night was good, and the thought of seeing him again was something you didn’t hate.
Y/N: I can’t believe I’m actually admitting to this, but yes he became my, oh what is it people say now? My sneaky link? Friends with benefits? Whatever, the point is we kept seeing each other. Just having fun. We were in our 20s and carefree, you know?
————————
You and Eddie kept things casual for a long time. He grew to be one of your closest friends during that time. Yes, it was mainly about the sex for the two of you, but you actually got to know each other well.
Eddie knew things about you that not even your roommate Sarah did. One night he opened up to you about Camila, about how he’d been in love with her for years and that was why he wasn’t looking for something serious. He seemed really vulnerable about it, and you decided to tell him about your cheating ex and why you didn’t want to date either. The two of you formed an odd sort of bond over that, over loving people that had chosen someone else.
Eddie: If I’m being honest, I was lying when I told her about Camila. I told her I was still in love with her, but I hadn’t been for a while. I was just too afraid to admit that maybe I moved on.
Y/N: I was done with it just being a fling at that point. Sure, I was still hurt by what happened, but I think Eddie helped heal that untrusting part of me. I felt ready for a relationship, but I didn’t know where he stood on the matter. I didn’t fess up because it almost felt better to have him in that way, than to not have him in my life anymore.
Karen: They were so obviously in love with each other, I’ll never know how they couldn’t see it in each other. The rest of us definitely could.
Graham: Y/N and Eddie? Yeah, I think the rest of us knew about them before they knew themselves. It was annoying as hell to live with them, I mean especially sharing a wall with Eddie. Warren and I took bets on how long it would take them to actually figure out their shit, and that son of a bitch beat me.
You and Eddie were lovers for almost a year.
Everything changed on a night that seemed so typical. Eddie had showed up at your place, absolutely livid.
“He cut my fucking part from the song! He’s such a fucking asshole!” Eddie slammed the door behind him and flung his coat over the back of the kitchen chair.
You put your book down and hopped up from the couch. “Again? Shit, Eddie, I hate that he keeps doing that to you.” The moment you placed a calming hand to his chest and leaned against his shoulder, you felt him relax beneath your touch.
He sighed and wrapped his arms around you. “I’m sorry I keep showing up here like this. I just get so pissed at him, and it’s like the only place I can think of to go is here.”
“Yeah?” You laughed softly.
He was quiet for a moment. “Yeah,” he said with such finality that you could feel a shift in the room.
The way he was looking at you…like you were something special. Like you were something valuable.
“And why is that, Ed? Why here?” You whispered.
In answer, he leaned down and kissed you. You too had kissed obviously, but this one felt like it meant something different. “Y/N, I’m so fucking in love with you that it’s all I can think about. Even when I’m not thinking about you, I still am. I was so mad at Billy and had to get out of there, and somehow I drove here without even thinking about it. So, yeah, I’m in love with you. I know that wasn’t in the agreement, but I can’t keep going and not tell you this once.”
You could tell he was going to keep rambling, so you decided to muster up the courage and do what you were dying to do. “Eddie!” He stopped and looked at you, visibly anxious. “Eddie, I love you too. I have for so long, and screw the agreement. I want to be with you.”
Eddie’s face lit up and he kissed you again. And again. And then he stopped to why the tears off your cheeks, which you assured him were happy tears.
“God, I should’ve told you sooner.” You chuckled and leaned your head against his chest.
He wrapped his arms around you and kissed the top of your head. “Warren would definitely call you a chicken right now, but I wouldn’t stoop that low.”
Even though he couldn’t see it, you rolled your eyes. “You know, I feel like you kind of did by mentioning it, but I’ll let it slide. Besides, I still thought you had feelings for Camila. I didn’t really think it would ever be me.”
Eddie pulled away slightly so he could look you in the eye. “You know I would always choose you, right? You’re it for me, baby. If you’ll have me, anyways.”
“Always, Eddie, always.”
Y/N Roundtree: We got married like six months after that.
Eddie: I would’ve married her that night, to be honest.

Billy - We were happy.
(Y/N) - You know, until we weren’t.
“Where the fuck have you been?” Your husband questions you as you walk into the kitchen, tossing your high heels on the floor and adjusting your short dress. “I went out for a bit.” You reply, grabbing a glass of water from the sink, Billy shifting in his chair to face you. “It’s past midnight, what were you doing out so late?” He huffs. “I never interrogate you when you’re out until like four in the morning, probably with Daisy.” You shake your head, starting to raise your voice. “For the thousandth time, we’re just friends! We’re not even friends, actually, we’re just in the same fucking band.” He yells, becoming increasingly frustrated. It’s silent, until, “Billy, please, just tell me if you love her, so I can leave.” You suddenly breakdown, tears threatening to spill. It’s probably the alcohol, but either way, this marriage has been doomed to fall apart eventually. “Leave?” His eyes slightly widen, “You want to leave me? You’re gonna fucking leave me? Over something going on in your head, over you being jealous of Daisy?!” He continues. You don’t say anything, closing your eyes and gripping the edge of the counter, your knuckles going pale. “Say something.” He mumbles. “I stayed by your fucking side! For everything! Me, Billy, me! I sat at home while you were on tour, hooking up with random girls! And when you got home? I was still there, waiting for you, ready to help you recover! I could’ve left, but I didn’t, because I loved you!” You break, walking out of the kitchen and towards him, staring at the man. “I didn’t ask for any of that, you didn’t have to stay.” He says. You feel your heart shatter into a million pieces when he says those words. You slowly look at your hand and slide off your cheap wedding ring, slamming it onto the table. “We’re done. I’m not staying anymore, I’m more than this marriage. I deserve more than this marriage.” You breathe out. “Wait, I’m sorry, let’s just talk about-” Billy stands up, grabbing your hand, his grip firm. “No, I’m over all of this.” You yank your hand away, walking away from him for good. There’s no going back.

“Good morning Donna!” You smile as you swing the backroom doors open, greeting the older woman who sits at the desk, counting the money before opening.
“Good morning darling! How are you this fine morning?” She asks, looking up through her glasses as her ponytail swishes back and forth slightly from turning around.
“Oh you know, here…so,” you tease, grabbing your apron off its hook.
“Well thank god for that cause we need you on register today,” she informs you.
“Sounds about right,” you laugh.
“Well you can’t exactly blame us for putting our best money maker by the literal money maker,” Donna replies, closing up the money bag.
“Ok, that was horrible,” you laugh harder.
“Whatever,” she rolls her eyes, “Would you be a dear and go mop the floors for me? Maybe clean off the counters if they look nasty?”
“You got it boss!” You reply, tying your apron tighter in the back and grabbing the mop and bucket on your way out.
Plunging the mop into the soapy water before dragging it across the floor, you proceed to switch on the radio as you walk past it, humming the melody it was emitting under your breath. Donna eventually makes her way to the front as you push the mop against the last dry corner of the shop, muttering something about how the “chef” in the kitchen must be taking his sweet time with today’s batches of donuts. As you grab the rag to dust off the counters, Jeff, the chef in question, pushes through the kitchen doors with a tray of freshly baked and decorated donuts. You do a big sweeping motion of your arm across the counter as he walks behind you, before grabbing the donut on the very edge of the tray, biting into it before he can object.
“Hey!” Jeff stops in his tracks, looking at you like you’ve just murdered his cat.
“Worker’s comp,” you mumble through the mouth-full, giving him a toothy grin where there are definitely pieces of frosting stuck in your teeth.
“That’s not even what that means man,” Jeff sighs before opening the display case and sliding the remaining donuts in it, closing the sliding door with his other hand.
“Someone’s gotta make sure we’re not poisoning the customers,” you reply. Jeff mutters a “whatever” and makes his way back to the kitchen, probably to grab another tray of today’s offerings. You turn to the espresso machine and look at the stack of mugs and to go cups in the cabinet above it. You preferred to call it an espresso machine, but it was really just an old coffee pot type machine with the grounds and coffee filters next to the utensil drawer.
“Almost opening people!” Donna calls, “Get ready to greet the public in three, two, one!” she counts down as she twists her key in the front doors. You turn around to be greeted with pretty much what you were expecting, no one. No one in your middle of nowhere town was up this early except the three of you at the cafe. Taking this time to pour the coffee grounds into the slot at the top of the machine, you’re surprised when you hear the bell above the front doors chime. Donna, sitting at her favourite corner table filling out some order forms, turns to look at whoever just walked through, which turns out to be a group of three young men.
“Good morning gentlemen, what can I do you for?” You ask, facing them from your spot behind the register. One was in a hoodie and sunglasses, and from what you could tell was hungover as all hell. The second one messed with the straps of his muscle tank and shook his black curls. The third one was dressed in an unbuttoned striped shirt over a white tank top and he hung his sunglasses on the dip of the front of his shirt as the three of them walked closer. You had to admit, they were all pretty attractive, but the third one just had a look about him, endearing you guessed is the word you would use. You hadn’t seen these guys come in before, so you figured they weren’t from around here.
“Um, uh,” the third one laughs awkwardly looking between the display case, you, and the floor.
His friend with the black hair snickers, “come on man. It’s not that hard”.
The one trying to order elbows his friend, coughing to clear his throat before asking for seven coffees, three glazed donuts, one with strawberry sprinkles, one chocolate and one old fashioned. You nod with a smile, writing everything down on a scrap piece of paper before you forget. “The coffee’s brewing now, so it shouldn’t be very long,” you tell them.
You grab a flat box for the donuts, folding it up and grabbing the requested ones from the case, placing them in so hopefully they don’t squish together. As you fold down the lid of the box, you swear you heard one of the guys mutter, “what’s the harm man? It’s not like you’re gonna see them again,” but shake it off, insisting the music was warping your hearing.
“So, you boys aren’t from around here, are you?” Donna asks, turning in her chair to face them.
“No, actually we’re um- we’re doing a small tour at the minute,” the one with the black curly hair speaks up first.
“Yeah, we’re playing this small gig tonight in a bar near here,” the endearing one adds, shifting in his seat.
“Oh, musicians! What a fun surprise having y’all turn up at our little joint,” Donna turns to you, winking not so subtly before turning back to the boys. You grab to go cups, lining them up so the seven are next to the machine and begin to pour the hot liquid. You hear one of them laugh and you don’t know why, but you don’t even have to turn around to know that it’s the one with the button up shirt. You smile down at the cups, a blush creeping its way onto your cheeks. Donna, the entertainer as always.
“Here are those coffees for you and the box of donuts, all as requested,” you call from the counter, causing all three boys to stand up. “We’ve got carrier trays too if that makes it easier”.
“That would be great actually,” the cute one smiles before grabbing the box of donuts, motioning to the others to take the coffees after you place them in four slot trays.
“Do you guys want sugar packets? Maybe the little half and half pods?” You offer.
“Teddy graham here sure would,” the boy with black curls teases, shoving his friend with his shoulder.
“My name is Graham, that’s just a stupid nickname they have for me,” Graham (as you now can refer to him), adds rather quickly.
“Ok,” you chuckle, grabbing a little bag and filling it with sugar packets and half and half pods. “That’s $7 for you”. Graham reaches into his pocket and grabs a $10 bill before sliding it over the counter to you.
“Keep the change,” he smiles and you nod, already sad that the interaction is about to end.
“Just so you know, the show isn’t sold out yet,” the curly haired one comments. It seems like an odd thing to throw out there, but you hum in a “piqued interest” type of response anyway.
“Well, maybe I’ll just have to swing by after my shift,” you reply, plunking some buttons on the register to get it to open so you can put the money in. They say thank you to both you and Donna and wave goodbye with their free hands before making their way to the front doors. You watch them leave as Donna makes her way back up to you.
“If you don’t go after that boy, I will”.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” You scoff.
“They clearly had eyes for you! Especially the awkward one. We don’t call you the money maker for nothing!” she waves her hands around as she talks. “And don’t act like you weren’t making eyes at him too”.
“I was not-” you try, but she’s already giving you one of her famous looks. You couldn’t lie to this woman for shit. “Ok but they’re touring, they’re not gonna be here very long”.
“Seems like a sad excuse to waste an opportunity. You’re young, come on, you’ve got too much life ahead of you to be second guessing shit like this!”
“Ugh! Fine!” You grab the sheet you had written their order down on and scribble your home phone number on the back with your name and a smiley face. Speeding your way around the counter, you shove open the front doors, hoping they hadn’t gotten too far. You spot them a little ways down the sidewalk and run over to them.
“Wait! You guys forgot your receipt,” you comment as you catch up to them.
“Oh, we didn’t need a-”
“No seriously, good for the records and all that, you know?” You wave the paper a little, hoping Graham would take it. When he does reach for it, it takes all of you not to immediately turn around in embarrassment or take it out of his hand and crumple it, chucking it as far as you can in the opposite direction. Surprisingly, you don’t do any of those things. You start to walk away as he folds the paper, going to put it in his pocket, but not before he quickly notices the writing on the back. As if he finally understands why you’ve run after them, a small smile erupts on his face and he nods in understanding.
“Yeah, good for the records,” he repeats.
“Maybe I’ll see you tonight, yeah?” You ask as you leave, not really looking for a reply, but hoping to turn around before the embarrassment blush creeps further onto your cheeks.
“You got it dude!” you hear the one with curly hair exclaim, clapping his friend aggressively on the back while balancing the tray of coffees in his other hand. “You got their number!”
Maybe you were more grateful now that you guys opened so early.
