hot take maybe but i think it wasn't silver's betrayal that hurt billy the most but the one of his men, his brothers- that everyone knew silver was lying and yet no one spoke up for him (except jacob garrett, rip). i would have snapped too

favorite fics of 2024/basically just batfam fic rec list
It's that time of year guys, here is my favorite fics of 2024 in no specific order (aka my master batman fic rec list bc that's all i read this year with some spider-man thrown in there lmao). most of these have been in my previous rec lists, but this is just like one big frankenstein’s monster of a fic rec with all of them in one place <3
starting off strong, anything @bluelotuswrites's hands have touched is pure gold. Red is the Color of Sinners placed post UTRH where after being hit by bruce's batarang and now mute, jason decides to leave gotham and go to hell’s kitchen for a fresh start, but he keeps running into daredevil both in and out of costume. this is possibly the best jason of all time i rotate him in my mind like a microwave all day
The Hellblazer's Apprentice is an all blades jason fic where instead of continuing his lost days world tour, he meets john constentine and decides to learn magic to piss of bruce. blue added some lore to jason’s character in this that to this day makes my brain vibrate with excitement and the dynamic between john and jason is just ?? so good. both of these fics haunt me, they follow me wherever i go, i love them. read everything she's written, trust me
going with the theme of my favorite authors i read this year, @cdelphiki wrote my favorite read of the year and possibly all time Life Happens a fic that hit me like a sucker punch where tim and damian are both sent to a different dimension where everyone they know are comic book characters. with no other choice, they have to start a new life in this world while they wait for rescue. words just dont do it justice, please please read this fic. it’s the most beautiful story on growing and life
their other fic Jason and the Three Terrors crosses my mind at least once a day if not three times. jason is still with the league when talia charges him with getting damian, his cousin mara, and his secret sister athanasia to bruce safely from ra's. the rest of the fic is jason going from "i cant wait to get rid of these kids" to "these are my kids, i need to provide for them and keep them safe and i would die for them" 100/10 jason's character development is some of my favorite in any fic.
The Time Before is another of my favorites where jason is sent back in time to when he was 9 and goes to bruce for help and realizes maybe his memories of bruce maybe aren't all accurate. just read everything cdelphiki has ever written, trust me <3
Split by @wolfsbanesparks i have never been hooked on a character i previously did not know much about faster than when i read this fic. Billy and shazam are forcefully separated into separate bodies by black adam and then they have to try to keep billy's identity secret somehow while working with the justice league to fix them. the end of this fic had me sending paragraphs and 5 minute voice notes to my friends, trying to explain why i was so absolutely distraught and obsessed.
also by wolfsbanesparks, From the Shadows is basically everything you could ever want from a billy batson joins the batfam fic. it's got plot, it's got identity shenanigans, it's got badass magical billy, what more could you possibly need! seriously idk what is up with everything wolfbanesparks writes, but the endings are always so fucking good, 100/10.
Something in the Static by @bonerot19 is one of my favorite jason series ever, i go back to it constantly and think about it all the time. this is a series where jason's mom doesn't die and his dad isn't in prison, instead he's 17 working nights at a convenience store when everything changes and suddenly batman won't leave him alone. this is my favorite jason & steph best friends fic ever and the way this fic is paced scratches an itch in my brain, the flow of the story is just perfect
Buy Back the Secrets by @vinelark is the only ship fic on here and it deserves a place of honor. every time i get an email that it's updated an angel gets it's wings and my friends all get texts in all caps. Timkon fic where kon still doesn’t know tim’s civilian identity, but tim keeps calling for superboy when he's in trouble which leads to kon meeting him as a civilian. the identity shenanigans are just so top tier, its a 5 + 1 fic so every chapter is just just a new world of fun tropes. the chapter with tim's fake uncle and jason is actually probably my favorite chapter of a fic ever its so dear to me. as far as i'm concerned, this fic is the only timkon ever <3
Honoring Promises by LananiA3O is the shortest fic on this list and is the most important jason & dick post UTRH fics i've ever read. this fic both scratched an itch and created an itch because i need 100 more chapters and for it to never end. set post UTRH when dick starts to rethink his opinion on a note jason left him and realizes it was jason reaching out and decides to find him and fix things. this goes up there with RITCOS in the post UTRH fics where jason decides to just fuck off and do his own thing, i love them
Adopting a New Plan by A_Silly_Gander is yet another fic where jason winds up with an adoption problem when he first comes back to gotham. however, my favorite part of this whole fic is how the author writes jason making mistakes and being flawed and how those mistakes affect him. absolutely 10/10 character development and jason rejoining the batfam + damian and jaosn meeting in the LOA tag is just a mixture of all my favorite things, i love this fic so much
A Collision of Masks by MOVAZ is my favorite dick grayson fic ever, its set in a young justice AU where batman never joined the JL and YJ never met dick, so when the YJ team is sent to investigate a new vigilante, nightwing, identity shenanigans ensue. this is seriously such a fun fic, i loved all the crossover between dick's many identities and the YJ team
Cards on the Table by @wesslan is just!!! so fun oh my god. the chapter titles are to this day my favorite things ever they enhance the experience. it’s about tim being a scam fortune teller who knows a lot more than he should about the upper class due to his nighttime stalking. he winds up meeting the batfam and giving some scarily accurate advice which leads to him being tied up in their business and lots of lying <3 it’s such a fun fic and i just love the vibes 100/10
Hand in Unloveable Hand (a chokehold) by @a-large-orange-cat is by far my favorite fucked up tim fic! while tim’s out taking pictures of batman and robin as a kid he gets kidnapped by black mask and raised to take over his crime empire. cue 50k of manipulation and angst, the ending is so satisfying and the sequel with jason always makes me :’) very good, this tim lives in my mind in a little house he and jason built
Dark Matter by @mysterycyclone because would it be a fic rec without the loml? i love this fic so much oh my god, it sent me back on my spiderman obsessed bullshit which in turn led me back down my marvel bs. post infinity war peter is dusted and wakes up in the DC universe with the ghosts of the dusted avengers following him. i love this fic so much, nothing compares to this peter in my mind. the dynamic between him and the batfam + the identity angst is just so well done
keeping up with the peter theme, The Teenage Vigilante's Guide to Saving New York (And Making Friends Along the Way) by candlesneedflame is such a good team red/mentor matt fic oh my god. where peter goes against tony’s wishes and starts hanging out with daredevil and his friends and maybe starts getting mentored by new york’s vigilantes. 10/10 i love peter interacting with the other vigilantes and also matt mentoring him
anyways, that’s all folks! 2024 was the year for the DC and marvel fics clearly and hopefully 2025 will be the year of me binding all of these finally and having them sitting pretty on my shelf <3

Tara ran off almost instantly after Mindy said the shrine would be the killers lair, then pointed out this wasn’t a normal Stab movie. Sam moved to go after her sister, despite trying to play everything as normal and as if the attack last year changed nothing, she knew Tara was struggling. Kirby waved her off though and said she’d check on Tara herself. Sam frowned but she knew it was probably better if Kirby went, she had been through this before and every time Sam tried to talk to Tara it almost always ended in an argument.
Sam turned back to the display case that contained the cloak of Billy Loomis. Her eyes trailed from the white mask down to the blood knife at the bottom. So, many lives were ruined just by Billy putting on a stupid costume. She wasn’t sure who could possibly be after them this time, though she didn’t expect her boyfriend to be the bad guy last time either. Whoever was coming after them did their research though, they had everything from each of the Ghostface attacks, going back all the way to the very beginning. She noticed there was even a small display about Sidney’s mom, the murder that started it all.
Sam didn’t know how to protect everyone. Two random kids were killed, which Sam couldn’t care too much about because they were apparently planning to kill her and her sister, but then she was attacked at the gym, she only survived because of you. Since then, the attack at the bodega and then the attack at the apartment, everyone had only survived because of you. She didn’t know where they’d be without you, who else would be dead. She knew she still had to be cautious around you, but you were proving more and more that you were trustworthy and nothing like Richie.
The floor creaked behind her, and she froze. She slowly lifted her head to see you through the glass, standing behind her. You hadn’t said a word, you hadn’t pressed her for answers too hard, answers you rightly deserved. She owed you an explanation about everything, who she was and why this was all happening. You knew who she was, but Sam owed it to you to tell you everything from her own mouth.
“Are you okay?” You asked, finally breaking the silence.
Sam turned around and saw you looking at her with nothing but concern. She wasn’t sure how you could see all of this, see this mess that went all the way back to her birth father and not flinch. There was still no judgement in your eyes, you were looking at Sam with the same kindness you always had. Your first question since seeing all this wasn’t to demand an explanation or ask who any of these people were, you just asked if she was okay, you truly were too good for her.
“Why are you still here?” Sam asked as she spun around. “You’ve been cut and stabbed,” she gestured at you. “Shot at, almost died three times all for some stranger who goes to your gym.” She shrugged, you might have been too good for her, but you also seemed to be crazy.
You only smiled at her words, making her furrow her brow. Maybe you really were her type, you were definitely crazy. “I assure you; this is nothing compared to what I’ve been through,” you said. “And you’re not just some girl from my gym anymore, I think I know you well enough to not want you to get murdered.”
Sam shook her head. You were military, special forces at that, you had definitely seen some things. With the way you handled yourself, first with the knife, then the gun, and then even in the apartment you used your surroundings to your advantage, nearly choking Ghostface out with a curtain. You could more than handle yourself, Sam could only imagine what you would do with the right equipment and an actual plan instead of getting caught off guard. But this wasn’t some war zone, you were at home, you shouldn’t be fighting for your life like this.
“You don’t know me,” Sam mumbled. “Not really, but if you insist on sticking around you should probably know what you’re getting into.” Sam walked across the stage and took a seat, letting her legs hang off the edge. You slightly followed after her, taking a seat right next to her but leaving enough space so the two of you weren’t touching.
Sam stared across the theater, Ethan was walking around, his hands shoved in his pockets as he looked around, Bailey stared at a few of the displays, furrowing his brow at the sight of some things. She looked to the side to see Gale staring longingly at one of the displays, Sam could only assume it had something to do with Dewey. Then there was Mindy, crouched down as she tried to comfort Anika off to the far end, with Chad standing a couple feet away, his arms crossed as his own eyes scanned over the group.
Sam clenched her hands into fists. She had heard a bunch of crap about her life and her family ever since that world learned the truth. She had known the truth since she was a teenager, she had spoken the words more than once. For some reason just opening her mouth to tell you seemed impossible. You could go online right now and find several articles talking about what she was about to tell you, saying the words out loud shouldn’t be a big deal.
“Whatever you say,” you said, interrupting her spiraling thoughts. “I promise you; it won’t change anything.”
Sam glanced at you and saw nothing but patience and understanding in your eyes. No one could really say nothing would change until they knew whatever it was, but you truly believed what you were saying. Sam knew she shouldn’t doubt you, you knew the rumors, you knew the basics, and you still stuck around. Everyone who learned the truth though ran and when they didn’t run it was usually because they had an ulterior motive, or they betrayed her.
“When I was younger, I learned my father wasn’t who I thought he was,” Sam let out a shaky breath as she got started. “My real father is Billy Loomis.” She could hear you suck in a breath at the name. “He’s the one who inspired all this,” she gestured around the room. “A year ago, my sister was attacked, by her best friend.” Sam shook her head, there were times she still couldn’t believe last year happened. Amber had never liked her growing up, but she always just figured Amber was an angry kid, she never imagined the girl would be a serial killer.
“Turns out it was all a ploy to lure me back home,” Sam let out humorless chuckle. “My now ex,” she wrinkled her nose. She couldn’t believe she had fallen for Richie, he had been so sweet and charming, that should have been the first indicator that something was wrong with him. “Set it up. He manipulated me, pretended to love me, then he tried to kill me,” she shook her head. “Oh, and he was apparently cheating on me the whole time with Amber.”
“Your ex, that was-”
“Richie,” Sam cut you off. “He tracked me down, became my co-worker, then friend, and then…”
“I’m sorry,” you whispered.
“And it was all to make a stupid movie,” she scoffed. “He’s dead. I made sure of that. So, is Amber.”
“I’m sorry.” Sam looked at you with a furrowed brow, after everything she just said she wasn’t expecting another, I’m sorry’. “He might have been an asshole and a psychopath.” Sam couldn’t help but chuckle at your bluntness. “But whatever you felt for him was real, that doesn’t just automatically end because of what he did. It’s okay to be hurt or even feel bad about it.”
Sam nodded, no one had ever told her that before, well her therapist did but she dismissed it at the time. “But I don’t feel bad,” Sam whispered. “I don’t feel bad one bit,” Sam let out a humorless chuckle. “It felt good to kill him after what he did to me.”
Sam rested her head in her hand as she looked at you. You were looking down at the ground with your eyebrow scrunched up in concentration. “Someone started rumors about me online,” Sam said, making you look up, your brow still scrunched together. “Saying I set the whole thing up last year, that I killed my boyfriend, and he was actually the hero.” Sam shook her head, despite Sidney being there, despite all the police statements, the world seemed to believe some random reddit user over the facts.
“The world sees me as just another killer,” Sam shrugged. “Just like my father.” Sam ran a hand through her hair. “Now you know what a mess my life is,” she scoffed. “Why it would be a terrible idea to get involved with me.”
She thought back to the kiss the two of you shared just the other day. She had stopped it; she said she couldn’t. She told herself it was because she couldn’t fully trust you, she didn’t want to risk getting involved with someone else. The truth was she didn’t want to bring someone into her life, it was such a mess, she didn’t want someone else having to deal with the looks and the comments. You certainly didn’t deserve to be with someone like that, you were too good for all that, you deserved to have someone normal, someone who wouldn’t potentially get you stabbed every other day.
You had been silent most of the time and when Sam looked at you, she saw you nodding along. “Your life is a mess,” you finally said. Sam couldn’t help but smile, you were still as blunt as ever, she found she kind of liked that about you.
“About a year ago I was shot,” you said, your voice becoming distant as if you were going back to the memory. Sam furrowed her brow, she had seen the scars all over your body, she knew you had been shot before, she never imagined one of those injuries was so recent though. “Centimeters from my heart.” You kept touching a spot over your heart, Sam could only assume it was where you were shot. “It’s why I’m in town.”
“But you seem fine,” Sam said. Kirby said it was odd you were in town for longer than usual, that you were stationed in North Carolina. Kirby also said you were still active duty, if you had been injured enough to be discharged then that would be one thing but if you were healed and still active duty it didn’t make sense for you to be home for so long.
“Physically I am,” you rasped out. You were looking across the theater, but it was clear your mind was somewhere else. “But up here,” you tapped your head. “Haven’t been cleared,” you clenched your jaw.
“You seem pretty sane to me,” Sam offered. You were the most stable person she had met, which maybe she wasn’t the best judge in that department knowing her track record.
You huffed out a laugh at that. “Well, not according to my therapist. She won’t clear me until I talk about what happened.” Sam thought back to when you had told her you had a therapy appointment, you had said it was mandatory, that meant you were ordered to see your therapist, it wasn’t something you willingly went to like she did.
“You don’t have to talk about it.” If you had been seeing your therapist this long and it still didn’t seem like you were any closer to getting clear that meant you probably hadn’t talked about whatever it was yet. Sam might have been comfortable seeing a therapist and wanted to talk about her issues, but she knew that wasn’t the case for everyone, her sister in particular refused to see a therapist or talk about what happened in any meaningful way.
“No,” you shook your head. “It’s been long enough.” Sam remained silent as she nodded, she would give you as much time as you needed. “We had been deployed for a few months, it was supposed to just be a peacekeeping mission,” you shook your head. “Had done plenty of them before, meant to help build relations, and make connections. But then…”
You blinked away tears that had begun to fill your eyes, but you never let them fall. “A local militia attacked, we were caught off guard, we’re meant to always be prepared but it had been months without incident,” you continued. You cleared your throat, trying to keep your voice as unwavering as possible. “My whole team was killed, my brothers,” you buried your head in your hands.
Sam sucked in a breath; out of everything she was expecting you to say it certainly wasn’t that. She couldn’t imagine the guilt you must be living with being the only survivor of something like that. The only reason she was as okay as she was was because of her sister and Chad and Mindy, without them she couldn’t imagine what she’d be like. They might not have liked to talk about what happened, but they relied on each other, they leaned on each other when one was struggling, and they celebrated together when something good happened.
“I was meant to die that day,” you whispered. “I should have,” you shook your head. You pressed your palm against your eyes before finally lifting your head again. “Somehow the bullet missed my heart, and the rescue team got to me just before I bled out.”
Sam opened and closed her mouth a few times. She wasn’t even sure where to begin with something like this, she was pretty sure there was nothing she could say to comfort you.
“See?” you said, giving her a tired smile. “I got just as much baggage as you.” Sam gave you a sad smile. “But I promise you, I’m much more screwed up, you don’t want any of this,” you gestured at yourself. “Coming into your life. Trust me,” you whispered. “It’s you who’s better off not getting involved with me.”
Sam opened and closed her hand. She wanted nothing more than to reach for you, to try and comfort you. She didn’t believe you; she was definitely not better off without you. You didn’t deserve anything that had happened to you, you weren’t to blame for your team dying. Ever since Sam had met you, all you had done was prove how good you were, you protected her, you joined the group to help protect everyone when you didn’t even know them. You told her your story as if you were warning her to stay away but it only proved to her that you truly were one of the good ones.

Haunted House (exboyfriend!Billy Butcher x reader)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
booooOooooooo!! this is angst. im always down to talk about exboyfriend!butcher so send me asks <3
warnings: angst, smut, infidelity mentioned, unhappy relationship, butcher is a meanie. thank you @butchersdarkbird for the help ❤️ dividers by @saradika-graphics
Tumblr media
There’s a ghost in his quiet house.
He used to like it like this; this was his preference. A fact that is so confusing and disconcerting to him now. He always preferred peace and a space that just belonged to him. His home was his and his alone. He swore after losing Becca, he would never allow himself to go through another heartbreak.
Then, of course, he met you.
He wasn’t ready for a relationship but he couldn’t not have you. He’s greedy to his bones, his mind tells him that his gluttony killed Becca- he couldn’t bear to share her with her own child. So with you, he rushed into a relationship when he wasn’t in the right frame of mind to open his heart. His chest ached when you readily opened yours to him.
You were an abundance of love, an overflowing fountain of adoration for him and him alone. You looked at him as if he hung the moon and in your mind; he did that and more. You told him you loved him quickly and he fucked you so hard that it was all you could whine as his cock plunged deep in you.
“Tell me you love me again darlin’, please, i need to hear it”. He cums as you scream out that you love him. He rests his damp head on your heaving chest- he has to hear your heartbeat so he knows that you’re real. Not his mind playing another cruel joke.
You made him feel alive. After Becca, it was just pills, violence and drink. Now it’s you. It’s homecooked meals, sloppy blowjobs on the couch and being held tight in his sleep. He didn’t need to be beaten just to feel blood running through his veins anymore. Seeing your smile did it just fine.
You move in, slowly but surely. For every twenty times you tell him you love him, he tells you once. He knows he’s let you in too far and he’s terrified. He’s going to hurt you- just like he hurt Becca. Seeing your pink towels litter his floor and your coffee cups sitting dirty in the sink starts to make his heart hurt.
Tumblr media
Billy Butcher doesn’t deserve good things and you are the best thing of all.
The way he pushes you from him is cruel. The sight of tears filling your eyes as he distances himself from you confirms that he’s a cruel man. He could say he learned it from his father but he’s unsure if that would make it better or worse.
He comes home late and drunk when he knows you planned to cook for him. You’re fast asleep in his sheets as he eats his favourite meal cold. He wakes before you do in the morning, replies to your texts coolly and heads back to the bar after work. He reacquaints himself with fellow patrons he swore he would never converse with again. The barmaid he slept with whilst with Becca has the same glint in her eye; a siren calling his ship astray. She has no idea he’s already crashed it and his body is floating under the surface.
The arguments are fierce, blazing. He fucks you after as an apology. After the third time that week, it tells you he isn’t serious. He’s withdrawn and it hurts you so badly that you feel physical pain every moment you’re together. You hear him stumble in one night, drunkenly sliding into bed with you and whispering a promise that he’s going to change. Drunken pleas to the back of your head that he needs time but he loves you so he has to do it.
Little does he know that the removal van parked outside on the street is yours.
Tumblr media
Your friends offered to help you pack up your stuff but it felt to embarrassing to let anyone else into your shared space. They’d warned you about him when you first started dating.
“Are you sure he’s over his ex?”
“Isn’t that the guy who blew you off five times before the first date?”
“Do you not think this is going a bit too quick?”
So you pack your trinkets alone. Letting the tears fall with no warm faces to console you. Part of you wishes you were angrier, filled with enough rage that you smash his belongings, rip his clothes and write how much you hate him on his white walls. You want to leave a mark, a sign to Billy that you once shared this space happily.
You realise it would hurt him more to just go quietly.
Billy knows anger, is well acquainted burning rage and pain. He hasn’t known peace in a long time. You used to think he did with you but now you’re not convinced.
Once the van is packed and you’ve done your final check around the rooms, you get ready to leave. You take the Lego keyring he always took the piss out of off his spare key and post it through his letterbox. You allow yourself to cry, to grieve the life that you lived with him as you drive to your friends.
In the first few hours of being at her home (yours as well for the time being) you await your romcom moment. The moment where Billy walks through the door with flowers and your spare key; begging for you to come home. You allow your mind to float away to him grovelling, tears in his eyes because he can’t express to you how much he loves you but he’ll do anything to prove it. You drift off without realising and wake up in the morning.
No calls, no texts, no contact from Billy Butcher.
Tumblr media
There’s a ghost in his house that has been taunting him for months.
He’s never understood why people go out for Halloween so early. Frenchie and Hughie call him a killjoy, they tell him he doesn’t understand the ‘fun’ of it. He doesn’t want to understand. He never minded the festivities when he was with you. He rolled his eyes when you came back from the store with garish Halloween candy but would delight in sharing them with you on the sofa. He’d watch every horror movie you put on; insisting that you could only watch horror in October. His favourite was when you’d dress up, taunting him in lingerie and riding him on the sofa until he came deep inside you.
The bar is busier than usual. He’s throwing back his whiskeys like he has no where to be and, really, he doesn’t. The only thing calling him is an empty bed. He overhears the guy next to him defending his costume.
He slurs, “no you gotta see my girlfriend for it to make sense…I’m-hic-mustard and she’s ketchup. It doesn’t work if we’re not both here…wait I’ll get her”
The guy shouts your name.
It feels like someone has poured ice cold water over him. Butcher knows he shouldn’t turn to look at you, he should finish his drink, tip his bartender and leave.
You look great, healthier than when he’d last seen you. Your smile is as welcoming as ever and your eyes glisten when you look up at him- not him, your boyfriend. The much younger looking man currently sliding his hand down your hip to your ass. You look so fucking happy. Butcher can’t remember the last time you looked like that.
He had drained it from you.
Your boyfriend mumbles something about the bathroom, leaving you stood alone at the bar- Butcher feels brave enough to tap your shoulder. Your delighted expression drops when you see him.
“S’a good costume darlin’” he can’t hide the sadness in his voice. When he came home and you’d left, he decided to bury it down. He told the rest of the boys that you were on a break, of course it had been months and he lashed out whenever someone spoke your name. That told them all they needed to know.
You don’t respond, he can’t tell if the expression on your face is shock, anger or despair.
“S’a good couples costume…your fella looks good an’ all, closer to your age” the age difference was always a point of contention for others but you both liked it. You thought an older man would know how to treat you properly. Butcher tips the rest of his whiskey down his throat, trying to hide the burn of the amber liquid as it slides down.
He spots your boyfriend coming back and you still haven’t said anything. You’re just staring at him. He panics as it occurs to him that this might be the last thing he says to you.
“I was a fuckin’ cunt to ya darlin’, i should h-“ your pulled away before he can finish. You turn back to face him as you’re dragged through the bustling crowd by your boyfriend. He sees tears fill your eyes, again. Just like they did when he was cold to you and just like when he told you he didn’t love you in a drunken rage.
He hates that he knows that devastated expression well. Hates even more that he always seems to cause it.
The words have died on his tongue.
He didn’t even get to say sorry.
Tumblr media
The ghost has been in the house ever since that night.
He wakes in a cold sweat hearing your giggle ripple through the corridor. He smells your perfume when he enters the bathroom. He’s finding more of your belongings than ever before. Socks, trinkets and hair ties scattered across the floor.
He tried communicating with you. He text you, called you and even turned up at your workplace- just to be told to leave by your best friend. “I think you’ve done enough damage already, don’t you?”.
He knows he has, he doesn’t need to be reminded.
He ends up talking aloud to your presence lingering in the house. He apologises in the dead of night, he compliments your perfume once he gets out of the shower and he puts your belongings in a bag. Promising that he’ll deliver them to you one day, along with the long awaited face to face apology.
It’s October 31st when the ghost finally communicates.
you [received: 9:19pm]: that guy was never my boyfriend. i think you hurt me too much for that.
you [received: 9:19pm]: im drunk. it hurts to think about you. please don’t text me again. dont turn up at my work. dont call.
you [received 9:20pm]: im blocking you. i never want to hear from you again. i fucking hate you.
Butcher panics, he calls you frantically but nothing goes through; no texts are sending. He drinks himself to sleep. He’s not sure if he’s still drunk when he wakes up but your side of the bed is warm. Your hair is on the pillow, your perfume is in the air and he hears your voice in the corridor. He smiles as he touches the warmth you’ve left. He falls back asleep with a smile.
It was a dream.
Of course it fucking was.
The bed is cold and the only smell is the spilled whiskey on his carpet. The room has never looked as bare. He tries your phone one final time. Just in case, he speaks aloud to you.
There’s no answer.

Summary: You want to kill again, chase after that high you got when you first did it..but what happens if Billy wants to take it too far?

“Yes! Fuck, Billy, I’m cumming!” I moaned as Billy gave me one last thrust before cumming inside me. “I love being inside this pretty pussy.” He whispered in my ear before pulling out and falling back down on the bed. I rolled over and laid on his chest as he wrapped me in his arms.
As I was laid in his arms there was a comforting silence. We had just got done with at least an hour of sex and the room was filled with Billy’s and I’s heavy breathing. I then finally decided to speak up.
“Billy?” “Yes?”
“I’ve been having those dark thoughts again.” I stated. Billy corked his eyebrow at me. “Yeah? What are they?” He asked me softly. “I want to kill again…that one kill wasn’t enough for me, I need the adrenaline again of the first kill!” I answered.
He nodded his head in agreement with me and I was relieved. Billy’s approval is the only thing that matters to me. “I’ve been thinking about that too, Maureen Prescott wasn’t enough…we need to kill Sidney too.” Billy said as he was deep in thought.
My eyes widened at his sentence. Why Sidney? We can kill random people off the street, nor our friend. And besides Maureen deserved it, she destroyed two families. “Why? She had nothing to do with what her mom did.” I said back.
Billy scoffed before responding. His face didn’t have that soft look anymore, he looked angry, hurt even.
“I don’t care if she didn’t have anything to do with it! That whole family needs to die. Her dad included.” The words spat out of his mouth with much hate.
It’s been a year-well, a year in 3 days that me, Billy, and Stu, killed Sids mother. When Billy first came to me with the idea I was disgusted with him, hell- I almost left him. But he’s my boyfriend and I hated seeing him depressed after his mother left, which was a result from Maureen.
She had to die. Kill the root of the problem.
I slowly nodded my head before answering to what Billy had just said. “Okay. Sidney has to go..her dad too.” It hurt me so much to say that. I’m going to kill my best friend since grade school.
“How do you think Stu will react once we tell him this? You know he likes Sidney, he’s obsessed with her!” Billy laughed at my response, shaking his head. “He never had a chance with her anyways, and besides, I might have to kill him too.” Billy said as he got up and grabbed his boxers.
My heart dropped. Kill Stu? He didn’t do anything. I looked at Billy with a hurt expression. How could he want to kill his best friend?
“You’re not killing Stu!” I tried to be confident but my voice cracked a bit.
“What? You like him or something?” He teasingly said but there was some jealously hidden behind those words. “Yes, I like Stu, as a friend. He’s our friend! You can’t just murder him, especially after all he’s done to help us! If anyone else should be dying right now it should be your mother! She’s the one who left without even-“ before I could finish Billy grabbed my throat tightly, squeezing it a bit.
“Keep my mothers name out your mouth!” He spat. It was as if this was a completely different Billy. He had that serious, crazy, dark look in his eyes too.
I nodded my head receptively hoping that he would let go soon enough but his grip only got tighter. He came face to face with me, his lips almost touching mines while his hand was still wrapped around my throat.
“I’m killing Stu. Thats final, we don’t need any loose ends, okay, princess?” His features now softened as he looked into my eyes, seeing the fear in them.
I nodded my head yes in response as he then kissed me. Nice and slow like he usually does.
2 days later…
Our plan was in motion now. Stu was gonna have the party later on tonight and we’re gonna kill Sidney at midnight. After Sidney dies along with her dad, Billy kills Stu, then me and Billy call the cops and tell them that the killer attacked us.
But before all that happens, Billy needs to kill Principal HImbry so everyone can leave.
The school day was now over- well, cut early due to the new curfew set in place from Caesy Becker being gutted open from Billy and Stu. I didn’t help out with that murder, I was just the getaway driver.
Sidney, Tatum, and I were now leaving the school building about to walk home until Stu came up from behind and thew Tatum over his shoulder.
“You girls are gonna bring the snacks! And please don’t get that gluten free, vegan, healthy shit. Yes, I’m talking to you, Sid!” He teasingly said as he pointed to her. I couldn’t help but laugh at his little comment.
I looked at the three of them, trying to savor this sweet moment. This was my last day with them- except Tatum. It’s just gonna be me, her, and Billy for now on. My heart ached at just the thought of Sidney and Stu being gone.
Stu eventually went his separate way while me, Sid, and Tatum walked over to the nearest store. When we got there we noticed Dewey and the Sheriff standing outside talking to each other.
I love Dewey, he likes the older brother I never had. If he ever found out what I was doing he would be heartbroken, disgusted at my actions.
He walked over to the three of us, him speaking first. “What’re you girls doing here? Curfew should be starting soon.” He said with a hint of concern in his voice. “Stu’s throwing a party, so we can left of some steam. We could all use a little bit of happiness right now..especially with the murders going on.” Tatum explained.
“Alright, I mean I guess you guys could go, but I’m driving you guys there.” He said with a faint smile on his face. Before me and Sidney could thank him, Tatum spoke up.
“We weren’t asking for your permission to go, dumbass! But thanks for the ride!” Dewey didn’t even bother responding to her, he was amused, laughed even.
We now headed into the store grabbing snacks for the party. The snacks consisted of chips, ice creams, soda, and cookies.
At the party…
“Hey! You guys made it!” Stu greeted us as he gave Tatum a kiss. Sidney and I walked off to the living room while Tatum stayed back with Stu. We sat down on the couch and all I could think about was our plan for tonight.
I was going to kill my best friend tonight.
“Hey, are you okay? You’ve been unusually quiet today..” Sidney asked. “Yeah! Just um- I’m on my period. You know..cramps and stuff.” I nodded. I tried to come off normal but I only sounded awkward, nervous even.
She didn’t question it, not wanting to push me even more so she changed the subject. “So, how’re you and Billy doing?” She asked with a little smile. “We’ve been good, ya know? Our communication has definitely gotten better!” My voice was coated with cheerfulness. I was being honest, me and Billy were having a rough patch, everyone knows that. But we’re better now.
“Thats good to hear. I’m happy for you Y/n/n.”
“I’m gonna grab a drink, you want anything?” She asked. “No thanks, I’m fine!” I answered. Sid went to go get something to drink while I went to the front door since Billy and Stu were standing over there.
“Is Himbry gone?” I whispered. Billy nodded before answering. “Yup. His body is hanging on the goal post.” He said with a smirk as I just shook my head.
“So..I’m gonna go upstairs and hide our for a bit, make a call so everyone can leave, okay?” “okay.” I answered. Billy placed a kiss on my cheek before going upstairs.
Now it was just me and Stu. I haven’t had the chance to tell him about us killing Sid, he thought we were killing Randy.
Yes, Stu is dating Tatum but he also likes Sid. He confessed that to Billy and I, I never noticed his interactions with Sid until he told us that. But I don’t think Stu necessarily likes Sid..but is more so obsessed with her. And everyone knows Randy likes Sid but she’s the only one who’s oblivious to it, so Stu wants to get rid of that problem.
“Stu?”
“Yes?”
“Theres something I need to tell you..” I softly said as I held his hands. He looked at me strangely but didn’t say anything. “Billy wants to kill Sidney.” I whispered. A tear fell down my eye as the words fell out of my mouth. Stu looked at me with betrayal, hurt. I tried to console him but he hastily snatched his hands from me.
“Stu come back!” My words came out cracked and low. I didn’t wanna draw too much attention to us so I quickly wiped my tears. He didn’t even look back at me, he just kept watching.
There was a knock at the door, I turned around and opened it, assuming it was just another classmate. But it was Dewey and…the news reporter bitch? The hell was she doing her?
“Hey, Y/n/n!” Dewey greeted. “What’re you doing here?” I asked, completely ignoring the bitch on the side of him. I remembered who she was now. She was the woman who constantly reported on Sid’s moms death.
“I just wanted to keep an eye on you guys, make sure theres no murders.” He teasingly said. I dryly laughed at his comment. I soon made my way back over to the couch where Randy and Sid were sitting at.
2 hours later..
I was in the kitchen with Sid..covered in Randy’s blood. I tried to save him, I had no idea that Billy was gonna kill him. But like he said. ‘No lose ends.’
“Are you gonna kill me too?” She asked quietly. I didn’t even have the courage to look Sid in the eye. “ANSWER ME Y/N!” She shouted as tears began sliding down like a waterfall on my face. “I’m sorry! I have to!” I said with an apologetic look on my face. “Why?! Just so you can please Billy and Stu?! You guys killed my mother! Tatum, Dewey, and Randy!” She exclaimed.
“You’re mother deserved it!” I snapped back. Sid’s face turned into a hurt and questioning look. “She destroyed Billy’s family! Caused his mother to leave, and sent Billy into depression! She needed to pay.” I didn’t realize that I became face to face with Sid. “So what? I deserve to pay for my mothers sins?” She asked as she now looked at the ground.
“No. You don’t.” I responded.
She looked up at me with shock covering her face. I was in my own thoughts, thinking about how this would all play out..until I remembered what Billy said.
‘No lose ends.’
If Billy has no problem with taking out Stu, his best friend since day one..whats stopping him from killing me too?
Billy is my lose end.
I pulled out the gun from my back pocket that Billy had handed me after he shot Randy.
“You’re not dying tonight, Sid.” I said to her. She tilted her head in confusion at my comment.
“We’re going to kill Billy and Stu.” I sternly said.
“How? They’re in control of this whole situation. Theres no way we can over power them.” Sid said. She sounded scared. If I was her I would be scared too. You don’t know who you can trust in this situation.
“They’re already wounded from when they were stabbing each other in here earlier. The plan is, you take Stu and I take Billy. Stab your fingers in ALL of his stab wounds, don’t hold back. Bite, slap, punch, hell-gouge his eyes out. Do whatever you need to do to take him out!” I stated.
“How are you gonna take Billy out?” She suspiciously asked. “I guess I’ll just improvise.”
“But I need you to take to the gun. I have a better chance of surviving if I stab him, he could easily flip the gun on me.” I said as I handed Sid the gun. She stuck it in the back of her pants, covering it up with her jean jacket.
Billy and Stu were walking back into the house after moving Dewey and Gale’s body.
“Ready?”
Sid nodded her head in response.
“And why the hell are you not dead yet?” Billy questioned Sid. I hurried and stepped in before he could say anything else.
“Because I was waiting for you, baby! You should be the one who kills her…I mean..it was her mother who ruined your family.” I said while looking up at him with that look I always give when I want something. “You’re right, princess.” He smirked before leaning in to give me a kiss.
Perfect he was vulnerable.
I squeezed and yanked his balls as hard as I could and that was a good enough signal for Sid to attack to Stu.
Billy pulled away looking at me in complete utter shock. “What the hell?!” Before he could react I have him a right hook to the jaw, making him fall back into the ground. From the corner of my eye I could see Sid on top of Stu, pushing her fingers inside his wounds as he screamed out in agony.
Billy stood back up to his feet as he now towered over to me. “You little bitch!” he shouted as he grabbed me by my throat and threw me into the wall.
I screamed out in pain when my back hit the wall. It felt like someone threw a brick at me. Billy then walked over to me and was now straddling over me. “You were the only person who I thought I could trust, but you screwed me over just like everyone else!” He slapped me straight across the face as I winced in pain. Yeah I definitely felt that sting. Hurt like hell.
“You act like you weren’t gonna screw me over! You were gonna kill Stu! So whats stopping you from killing me next!” I said, but my voice was strained- I mean he just choked the shit out of me, threw me against the wall, and backhanded me.
“I’m sorry, princess!” He cried as his body now laid on top. What the hell?
Billy laid his face into my chest and started crying. “You were right..but I have to kill you, baby.” he lowly said into my chest. My eyes widened, I didn’t think he was actually gonna admit it.
He lifted his head from my chest and slowly kissed me for the last time.
This was my chance.
In the middle of our kiss, I slowly pulled out my knife from my back pocket and stabbed him right in his liver.
“AHH!” He screamed out as I then stuck my fingers in his wound.
He screamed even louder, now touching his wound to where I stabbed him. I heard a bang sound but I tuned out. “The gun!” I shouted to Sid.
She tossed the gun towards me and I shot Billy straight into the stomach.
His body fell limp on top of me. His blood was slowly seeping to my shirt. It was sticky, yet cold. I hurried and pushed him off of me, scurrying up off the floor and now running to where Sid was standing.
Stu was dead.
“The t.v. seriously killed him?” I asked in a chuckle as she started laughing. “You said do whatever you need to do.” She laughed as I nodded my head.
We then heard a thud come from the closet. We both turned around, still on high alert. It was Sid’s dad.
“Dad!” She said, relieved at who it was.
She untied him and urged him to call the cops. He called them from the phone in the kitchen as me and Sid walked back into the living room.
It was silent before I spoke up. “I know that you can never forgive me for what happened and I-“ Before I could finish my sentence she hugged me tightly. “You could’ve killed me, but you didn’t.” She said into my neck.
We pulled away from the hug, now looking around at the bodies and the mess.
I saw Stu’s leg twitch a bit, but I didn’t think anything of it, he’s probably still suffocating.
I can’t believe it had to end this way.

(Warning. This chapter contains hints of domestic violence and if any of my readers are going through that you deserve better. I love you all, also Motley will be showing signs of abuse this chapter. It's a long chapter that I'm really nervous about and I really hope you guys like it <3)
Enjoy!
Eddie had been in a pissy mood on Halloween morning of his second year as a senior, mostly because his friends that had graduated last year were all going out to awesome college parties and he was stuck redoing school. Embarrassed and alone.
But he sucked it up, wearing his favorite leather jean combo as he walked into the halls of hell, keeping his head down while people passed by him in a flurry, excitement and laughter in the air.
He had planned to just keep his head down and make it to class, no need to get into something with Harrington and his cronies. He had enough of their teasing and bullshit to get him by for the rest of the year.
Normally it was fine since he had friends, but now he was alone.
A body slamming into a locker pulls his attention to where someone in a rustic leather jacket was slamming one of the juniors into the wall of metal. The kid being assaulted was called Jeff, he was the only black kid in the grade and Eddie had seen him around a lot. The kid didn’t hang out with anyone and seemed lonely.
Shit.
The one slamming him was Billy Hargrove, a new kid that seemed to immediately become one of the cool ones. He spent most his classes not caring and any free time harassing everyone else. Eddie had his fair share of issues with him already.
It would be a good idea to just walk away and let them handle this on their own, but Eddie could not do that. If there was one thing his dad taught him it was that he could take a punch and his Uncle Wayne always told him that you should always stand up for the weaker man. Even if Eddie wasn’t strong enough to beat Billy “steroids” Hargrove, he was strong enough to take a hit for someone else.
A sigh falls through him as he makes his way over, tapping the shoulder of the assailant quickly, the second Billy has his eyes on him Eddie shoves him quickly.
Billy reacts in an instant, hands clenching into his jacket, swinging Eddie around until it was his back being slammed into the lockers. A grunt passes his lips as he sends Jeff a quick look to escape while he can, the kid gives him a grateful smile as he snatches his backpack and dashes off.
“If it isn’t the super senior!” Billy laughs bitterly, pulling Eddie forward and shoving him back into the lockers harshly.
Don’t hit him. Don’t hit him. Don’t hit him.
“What you doing here bud?! Trying to get your ass-“ Eddie loses some of his patience after the third hit into the lockers and hits Billy’s hands off of him, shoving him back enough that Billy nearly trips over his feet.
Gasps fall from the crowd as Billy glares, staring wide eyed at him as he sneers. Eddie tries to play it cool, the anticipation of a fight howling beneath his skin as he preps himself.
Before they can get into it Steve Harrington pops up, his back to Eddie as he watches Billy. “Not that I don't want to see how the freak handles business but the principal is on the way.”
Billy casts one more glare, walking off quickly as Harrington turns to Eddie.
“You stupid or some-“
“Yeah yeah. We get it Harrington. I’m a repeat senior.” Eddie snaps, rolling his shoulders to relieve some of the pain. “Why don’t you find a new joke?”
“Sorry, I was just trying to make sure you were good.” Steve sighs, rubbing the back of his neck before moving to pick up what Eddie had dropped.
“I don’t need help from you.” Eddie snaps, snatching the lunch box he had gotten from Uncle Wayne and walking off quickly.
-
Eddie had spent the better part of that year dealing with Hargroves shit, the only thing that made him feel better was the fact that Steve Harrington seemed to be having his own issues with Billy. Then the summer between his second senior year and his third Billy Hargrove died.
Eddie had avoided the pool that entire summer but he heard about it from Jeff the day the mall caught on fire. The next thing he knew Max was moving into the trailer near his and Wayne’s and everyone was bothering her and her mother about it all but they seemed like they didn’t want to talk about it.
After he dealt with VECNA they all explained a little about what happened, and when El closed the gates and fixed the time warp she ended up bringing a couple people back. That’s how he came back.
No one had seen Billy, so everyone assumed he didn’t come back. Even Barb had shown back up (though her memory was hazy on everything).
Now, Billy Hargrove stood in the doorway of his home, catching Motley when she ran to him with an easy smile. “There’s my baby!”
Eddie doesn’t know what to do, stuck between anger and shock, watching this play out before him as Ziggy grabs at his jaw. The little toddler leans to kiss his cheek, a wet open mouth kiss that normally makes Eddie laugh, but this time he just stands there. Waiting for the “just kidding!” Or someone to pinch him so he can wake up.
“Sugar,” Billy starts, keeping Motley in his arms as he stares at Eddie. It takes him a moment to realize that when he says sugar he is talking to you. “Why is there a drug dealer holding my daughter?”
“I can explain-“ you start, watching Eddie angrily set up the crib in your shared room, jaw tensed and eyes heavy with anger. “Eds please.”
“You don’t need to explain.” He snaps, turning quickly. “No actually. You do. What the fuck?”
“I met him a couple years back. Okay? It was a one night stand from a bar, he was new in town and I ended up getting pregnant. After that he said he wanted to stay together because of the baby and I didn’t want to parent alone so I said yes-“
“So you’d rather have parented with a racist jackass then?” He laughs bitterly. You draw back, eyes wide as he does so before he sees you get defensive.
“I didn’t know about any of that. Okay? He was sweet with me for the most part-“
“For the most part?”
“He had moments of anger, sometimes I got hit. But he always made up for it. And then I got pregnant again and I thought I was happy and then….” You trail off then, shaking a bit. “I left for a reason.”
“He hit you? More than once?” Eddie bites out, hands on his hips.
“It was fine-“
“No no no. It wasn’t fine. But the fact that you’re saying it was fine and you say he made up for it means that you didn’t leave because he hit you, you left for another reason.” He sees you get nervous under his gaze and he knows he’s figuring out. Anger coursed through him at the fact that Billy had ever laid a hand on you in the first place but it’s beginning to reach tenfold when he puts the pieces together. “He hit Motley?”
“I-“
“You were okay with him hitting you, which makes me upset that you thought you deserved that, but the second he hit Motley you ran.” He fills in the blanks, watching as you crumble before his eyes with tears falling freely.
“Ohmygod-“ you sob, covering your eyes.
“And that’s why you’re so weird around Max because when you came out here you recognized her, right? And when we all shared the truth of what happened you recognized Billy in it? And you didn’t say anything because-“
“What was I supposed to say Eddie?! That I was dumb enough to fall for it?! That I slept with a racist abusive asshole one night drunk and then agreed to let him move in with me because I was scared even though I knew nothing about him?!” You snap, tears streaming down your face. “You guys would have thought the worst of me. You guys are going to think the worst of me- maybe I should just grab the girls and go get a hotel-“
“Hey hey hey.” He eases, reaching for you as you stand up to leave. His hands find your hips and he pulls you in for a hug. “No. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry-“
“I’m sorry. I’m over reacting and being a pain in the ass because I’m surprised is all.” He mumbles, kissing your head and keeping his nose pressed into your hair. “You are very brave for leaving him, yeah? And I’m so sorry that you had to go through that, you’re not stupid you were just played. You always think the best of people and you are so fucking brave for getting the girls out of there.”
He lets you sob into his chest for a minute, rubbing your back in comfort as he holds you to him tightly.
Eddie was gonna figure this out. He was gonna find a way to get Billy Hargrove out of his life for good.
-
The morning was always filled with excitement, mostly on Motley's part. She loved getting ready for the day, for all the things she would do. She loved talking yours and Eddie’s ear off about the plans for the day. Then she would be crankier when she got home and she knew it was time for bed, but Eddie loved her in the mornings because he loved seeing her excitement.
He wore his glasses in the morning, while he helped get them ready for the day since you both liked to tag team the morning and get the process done faster. This morning was his turn for Motley, who currently sat at the table blabbering on about how she was excited for secret santa while Eddie sat at the stove watching the pancakes bubble.
“-and I keep thinking what if Vinny gets me? He will probably get me the dumbest thing ever and I would be so upset. But what if Troy gets me, oh I hope Troy gets my name- Daddy are you listening?”
“I’m listening, pretty girl.” He smiles, looking over her shoulder where she sat coloring. “You hope Troy gets you. Cause you have a big ole crush on him.”
“DO NOT!” She yells which makes him laugh and turn back to the pancakes. Before he knows it he feels a pair of arms wrap around him, with you kissing along his exposed back slowly while ge fights off the blush.
“You cooking bacon without a shirt, handsome?” You smile and he tries not to laugh.
“I can’t feel half the skin on my stomach anyways.” The scars made sure of that. “You want a piece of bacon?”
“I’ll wait to eat with you and the girls. Did we get any yogurt on our last trip to the store?” You ask, moving to the fridge to check. Eddie takes a moment to admire you before looking to where Ziggy sits in her high chair, playing with a piece of paper that Motley gave her.
“Morning metal head.” He coos, walking forward to kiss her head. She giggles and claps before Motley follows what Eddie did, kissing her sisters head.
“Come here Daddy.” She smiles, and he bends down to let her kiss his forehead which makes her laugh.
He sets them both up with plates, eating breakfast quickly before rushing to get a shirt on as you bring them both to the door to get them in shoes. When he gets back he finds Motley with her arms crossed and shaking her head.
“What’s going on?”
“She found out Steve is taking her to school.” You sigh, trying to grab her foot.
“I want Papa to take me. He said he wanted to!” She snaps and Eddie watches you tense up, choosing to intervene here.
“I got this, go grab her bag.” He smiles, switching spots with you. “Alright. No playing around. Metalheads put their shoes on when told.”
“But daddy-“
“Ah.” He holds up a finger and she sighs before grabbing the left shoe and moving to put it on her right. “Wait. This is a good time to teach you left from right.”
“I’ve got time.” She smiles , watching him.
“Alright. This is left,” he holds out his left hand, the metal bracelet he always wears drawing Ziggys attention as she waddles closer.
Motley holds out her right hand, repeating “left.”
“No. That’s right.”
“I’m right?”
“No. That hand is right.”
“Yeah daddy. I know I’m right.” She scoffs, staring at him like he’s insane.
“No pretty girl. You’re opposite of me, like a mirror. So if this is my left hand you’re left hand would be….” He picks up her left hand, wiggling it a bit.
“Oh. So this would be my right hand.” She mumbles, shaking her right hand.
“Exactly. So if this is your left shoe it would go on…..”
“MY LEFT FOOT!” She yells excitedly which makes him smile.
“You got it! You rockstar!” He helps her tie it, letting her rest her foot on his thigh before switching the feet and tying the next shoe.
“We ready to go?” You ask, coming around the corner and smiling.
“Daddy taught me my left from right, Mommy!” She giggles, rushing to get her bag and holding your hand as you lead her out of the house with Eddie close behind, Ziggy in his arms trying to reach for the bandana on his head.
“Hey Uncle Steve,” she calls, running up to him to hug him. “I know my left from right!”
“You’re a genius kid!” He smiles. You pull her attention, kissing her forehead before kissing Steve’s cheek. Eddie follows, kissing Motley then snatching Steve and kissing his cheek which makes everyone laugh. Ziggy coos the second she sees Steve and he instantly makes grabby hands at her.
“There she is, my pretty little angel.” He coos, bouncing her up and down as Motley climbs in his car between his two sons. Vinny glares while Jackson waves his grubby little hands. The kid was four and thought the best thing to eat was a crayon.
“You know what gender the baby is yet?” You ask, watching Steve with Ziggy.
“No. But Nancy is sure it’s another boy.” He sighs out. “And she wants to name one after her brother.”
“Do we need another Mike?” Eddie laughs which makes Steve laugh as well.
“That’s what I said!”
“Alright, I have to head off. Drop Ziggy off at daycare before work. Have a wonderful day boys.” You smile, grabbing Ziggy from Steve who sighs in disappointment, before kissing Eddie and heading off to your car.
Steve turns to Eddie, a raised brow, he opens his mouth to start asking but Eddie holds up a hand. “Nuh uh. We don’t talk about within hearing age of Motley.”
“Why’s that?” Steve asks, squinting. “She get upset?”
“The opposite.”
“But the guys a massive dick!”
“And that’s her dad.”
“You’re her dad.”
“No, I’m the step dad.” Eddie sighs, something clenching in his gut. “I gotta get going. Thanks for dropping Motty off.”
The thought that he was just the step dad stuck, it clung to him like a second skin, sticking like a shadow over the sun. He thought about it while he tucked the girls in, and when he woke them up. He worried over the thought of Billy fighting for custody and turning the girls against Eddie.
He was just the step-dad.
This is what he was thinking about as he changed the oil on one of the cars in the shop, a frown stuck to his face as music played in the background. It was Dylans, the other repairman that worked today, turn for the stereo and he was playing all the rock hits. Which included ‘rock you like a hurricane.’
And all Eddie could imagine was his girls having a dance party but instead of him being there it was Billy. Billy dancing with them to all the music and-
“HI DADDY!” Motley shouts, making Eddie gasp in shock, whipping his head to find her on all fours so she could see him under the car.
“Hi pretty girl.” He smiles, using the cart to roll out from under the car and sit up, whipping the bandana off his hair as she whirls around the car to attack him, roaring like a tiger as she jumps on him. “What are you doing here?”
“School let out early today, they have their christmas party tomorrow and then winter break.” You explain, walking around the car with Ziggy on your hip, still wearing the cute diner uniform. “Motley wanted to come grab you for lunch.”
“Oh yeah?” He smiles, laughing when she slips a bit and he has to catch her before she hits the floor. “Where do you wanna go?”
“Pizza.”
“Pizza?!” He acts shocked, eyes wide as she begins laughing. “Well I don’t know about that…. I don’t really know if I like pizza.”
“You LOVE pizza.” She scoffs, jumping up and dashing to the radio to turn it down. “Does Dylan want pizza?”
“Why thank you for asking little lady.” Dylan smiles, wiping his hands on his suit. “I love pizza.”
“Hear that daddy? We have to go get pizza for Dylan.” Motley sasses, coming back over to snatch Eddie’s bigger hand between her own. “Get uppppp!”
She groans as she tries to lift him, and Eddie picks himself up so she thinks she was able to do it. “Jesus you are strong.”
“I pulled a secret santa today, and you’ll never guess who I got!”
“Troy?”
“No.” She sighs, disappointed for just a moment before her face lights up again. “I got Samantha, she likes jump rope.”
“Yeah? Is that what we are gonna get her then?” He chuckles, moving to wash his hands as you go and put Ziggy in the car.
“Well I don’t know. I don’t want my gift to be too basic and not surprising. But I want to make sure she actually likes it. And do you think-” Eddie lets her ramble, grabbing her hand and leading her to the car as she goes on and on about the ideas she has for gifts.
-
The store was busy when Eddie took Motley Christmas shopping, holding her hand in his own as walked across the street and headed into the warmth. He had been more focused on making sure she wore a coat then grabbing a coat heavy enough for himself.
The second she is in the store her eyes widen and she makes a mad dash to the kids aisle, Eddie right behind her trying to slow her down a bit.
“Alright, take a look and see what you might like to get Samantha.” He huffs, breathing into his palms to warm up his face, ignoring the weird look he gets from a do-good mom passing by in her expensive shoes.
He had gotten used to the looks by now, it’s not like he screamed father with his leather jacket and tattoos, but you always told him that he was a better father than any country club dad you had ever met. And he was constantly lecturing Motley that ‘it’s what’s on the inside that counts’ so how would this be different?
“How about this?” She asks, picking up a barbie car that makes Eddie’s eyes go wide.
“Isn’t there a price limit on this thing?” He blurts, moving to check before she is completely gone and looking at something else.
“Can I get a dollhouse?”
“For Samantha?”
“No, for me silly..” She laughs, like it was the most obvious thing.
“We are supposed to be shopping for your secret santa cheeseball.”
“Oh, right.” She sighs, moving back to the barbies. “How about for christmas?”
“Have you asked Santa?” Eddie smiles, and she shakes her head. “We’ll write a letter tonight, then.”
“Okay.” She giggles before pointing to a ken doll. “Hey daddy?”
“Yeah?”
“Santa already answered my wish this year.” She mumbles which makes Eddie look at her curiously. “Last year I asked Santa to bring my dad back. And he did even better.”
Eddie’s heart practically shatters as he tries to smile at her, the vast empty feeling at her words killing him. Of course, what little girl didn’t want her dad on christmas, and she wanted Billy.
-
Steve was suspicious of him the entire Christmas party, giving Eddie the side eye every chance he could while you sat not far off with Nancy gossiping amongst yourselves.
Steve was room mother, and as much as Eddie made fun of him for it his friend was an amazing room mother. He had thrown the class’ holiday party at his house rather than that stuffy classroom so that the parents could come as well. His house, which was already insanely decorated for Christmas, had tons of ‘activity stations’ for the kids to do. Motley and Vinny were currently arguing over what color gumdrops they wanted to put on their gingerbread house.
Charles, Samantha's dad as Eddie found out, had wavered off after talking to Steve and himself for the past hour and finally the two men were left alone. “Who knew parenthood would be just like highschool again?”
“You’re telling me.” Steve snickers. “I feel like-”
“King Steve again?” Eddie taunts, shaking his head.
“Oh no no. You can’t make fun of me since you’re apart of the cool kid club this round.”
“No I’m not-”
“Oh yes you are. Please, everyone talks about you and Y/n. One, all the moms think you are attractive and so gentleman like for taking on the girls. Two. The dads are jealous of you cause you have this cool rock thing going on while still being a parent. Three, everyone loves Motley. She is the class princess. Everyone wants to play with her at christmas, if she shows up to their birthday party then their year is made. Admit it Munson, you’re raising a prom queen.”
“I don’t think I have much to do on that front, and it’s more to do with I’m your friend and you are the Room Mom.”
“Shh not so loud.” Steve mutters. “Nancy has been feeling a little guilty about being ‘less of a mom’ cause she spends all day at work. I tried telling her it was fine but she thinks it’s a bad look that her husband is room mom and not the actual mom.”
“I don’t think it’s a bad look. I think it shows that Vinny is being raised by two people who understand life a little better than other stuck up parents.”
“Thanks pal.” Steve sighs, leading them away so Eddie can go up and check on where they put Ziggy to nap. Steve had been nice enough to set up a little crib in his room so she wouldn’t have to be dragged around the party.
They catch up on everything, Steve complains that he think Jaxon might just be a freaky kid considering the amount of crayons and pencils he eats and how Nancy babies him. He complains that Mike is the worst uncle and never actually helps but always claims to do so.
Eddie catches Steve up on the Billy situation, which had shocked the group to no end.
“He’s been calling everyday, arguing that he should get visitation.” Eddie sighs, taking a swig from the beer Steve smuggled for them.
“That’s bullshit. Tell him no.”
“Y/n is worried that he could fight and get full custody.”
“Why on earth-”
“Because she took the girls and ran. She did it for their safety but the court will never look at it like that.” Eddie sighs, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “All they will see is Hawkins very own mall hero being abandoned as she runs to Hawkins very own freak.”
“Motley and Y/n don’t think of you as a freak.”
“Maybe not. But Motley adores Billy, and that leaves me on the sidelines.”
“That’s not fair.” Steve sighs but Eddie shrugs.
“You know how long I hated Wayne for taking me from my dad? That man hit me and all I did for years was look up to him and try to be better. I pushed away anyone that actually cared. I know what she is going through right now, and I don’t want to be the one to ruin that love she has for her dad. Shit person or not.”
“Would you rather ruin her dad for her or have her heart broken when she is exposed to him on her own?”
“I think if he ever hurt her I would actually-”
“Kill him. I’m so in.” Steve finishes the sentence before there is a quick knock on the door.
“Dad!” Vinny whines. “Where’s the gift?! We are doing secret santa!”
Steve sighs, moving to his dresser to grab the wrapped gift before handing it to his son. Eddie waits to follow Vinny, surprised when he turns to him rather than immediately running away.
“Will Motley like this wrapping paper?”
“Yeah? I think she’d love it.” Eddie smiles, watching in shock as the kids dashes out. “He got Motley? Bet he hated that.”
“Nah, he was worried she might now like the barbie car.”
“Wasn’t there a price limit on this thing?” Eddie asks, raising a brow.
“My kid is head over heels for your daughter Munson. Just be happy Troy didn’t get her. Little punk thinks he’s everything.” Steve scoffs, walking past Eddie and mumbling under his breath about Troy being a little shit.
-
There was a new form of hell to Eddie, not having his girls under the same roof was that hell. After a very long argument it was agreed that Billy would get them for the night, they would have a fun time at the shitty motel room.
So, after a long night of pacing back and forth, Billy finally dropped the girls off around noon, smoking easily as he carried Ziggy’s car seat in one hand.
“Really? Right by her?” Eddie snaps, grabbing the handle carefully as Ziggy coos up at him.
“Didn’t think you would be one to care, Munson.” Billy laughs, looking past him to where Motley stood with a grumpy look and her bag around her shoulder. “You used to make sure our class was coked out just fine.”
“Motty go inside.” Eddie sighs, moving to open the door for her, getting a little nervous when she glares and stomps in. “Has she eaten?”
Only when he turns back to ask Billy the jackass is already halfway in his car, sending a cocky smile in Eddie’s direction as he turns the speaker up loud.
Now left alone with the two girls since you were at work Eddie shuffles inside to go find where Motley stomped off to, finding her in her room sitting on the floor and playing with a toy he didn’t recognize.
“New barbie?” He smiles, watching her carefully. This was the first time she had ever gone with her dad and he didn't know what to expect, maybe he had been hoping for a hug or kiss. “She’s very pretty-”
“Papa got her for me.” She bites out, voice dripping with attitude.
“Okay. You hungry? I can make you-”
“LEAVE ME ALONE!” She screams, rushing to slam her door in his face, the tiffany poster she had on it staring back at him as he blinks in shock. There had been fits, a couple of screaming fits, she sometimes called him meanie head when he told her not to do something. But she had never before slammed a door in his face.
Not really knowing what to do he decided to focus on bathing Ziggy first, making sure the smoke scent didn’t cling to her before setting her up to eat something.
A couple hours later you came home, a nervous smile on your face as you looked at him only to realize he was upset.
“What happened?”
“She’s upset, won’t come out of her room.” He sighs.
“Let me go check on her.” You mumble, kissing him before heading to her room and knocking softly. “Hey bugs? Why don’t you come out and say hi? Daddy can make something for dinner-“
“Eddie can fuck off!” She screams, which makes you freeze as Eddie’s heart drops and he leans his forehead on the wall.
“Motley Marie-“
“NO!” She screams from the other side of the door and Eddie feels like he might throw up.
“Maybe I should go to Wayne’s tonight?” He offers, shaking a bit as he shoves his hands into his pockets. “I need to help him fix the replace his fridge anyways”
“Eds, no.” You mumble, tears welling up in your eyes as you shuffle closer. “She’ll be fine in a bit. We just need to get her to eat and-“
“She’s not gonna come out to eat if I’m here. I’ll come back tomorrow to see if she’s feeling better. Okay?” He tries, rubbing your arms in a comforting manner. “Just one night, maybe she will eat and calm down”
You shake your head, crying, but you both already know the answer. And Eddie already knows this might not work out for him.
-
After packing an overnight bag and heading off he makes it to his Uncle Wayne’s and spends the night there, hoping Motley would feel better if he wasn’t there.
He helps Wayne sort out the kitchen, both of them planning on switching the fridges out in the morning now that his is empty. So, later in the night, Eddie lays on the couch staring at the ceiling.
He couldn’t fall asleep without you beside him and he’s used to seeing the hall light under the door so the girls could see if they needed to get to the bathroom or your room.
He tossed and turned, doing his best not to get too upset at all of it before he began thinking about all the ways this could go wrong.
He never wanted to hurt the girls, and as much as he loved them and loved you there was always that thing about “if you love someone set them free.” So, as much as he hated it, he figured maybe it was time for some breathing space. Let Motley learn about her biological dad for a bit, and he would take whatever he could get even if it was just a dinner a month. Anything to make sure she didn’t hate him forever.
So, around 6am, when he finally managed to close his eyes and get some sleep he had decided that the best plan of action was to give his girls breathing room.
-
When he woke up Wayne was already starting on the fridge, which made Eddie realize just how much he had slept in. Jumping up quickly to start helping, he didn’t think to call you.
They spent the next few hours moving the fridges and getting the new one set up, making sure everything was working before hauling the old one to the junkyard. By the time they were done the sun was going down and Eddie was starving so Wayne offered to order a pizza.
The only problem was your car was at the trailer when they got back, with you sitting on the hood smiling at him as Wayne pulled his truck up to park.
“Hi Grandpa Wayne.” You called which made the older man smile and hop out quickly to give you a kiss before moving to say hi to the girls in the back seat.
Eddie moves to hug you, kissing you deeply before you pull back and smile. “You didn’t call, and we called this morning but no answer so I figured you boys were busy.”
“Sorry. I slept a little late and we were fighting that damn fridge all day.” He smiles.
“We were thinking about going and getting dinner tonight, thought we’d come pick up daddy.” You offer, holding his hand. He casts a quick look to where Motley is sitting in the backseat, laughing as Wayne pretends to steal her book.
Breathing room.
“I actually got more stuff to help Wayne with. That okay?”  He could see you visibly deplete, trying your best to keep smiling.
“Of course that’s okay. Just don’t forget to call okay?”
“I won’t.”
“You wanna say bye to the girls?”
“I….Not tonight.” He feels like he’s stabbed himself in the gut and twisted the knife, his throat tightening up with the urge to cry. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” You mumble. “And you’d tell me if something was wrong, right?”
“Right.” He smiles, leaning to kiss your cheek. When you kiss him one last time you move to Wayne, tearing up a bit.
“Enjoy your handyman Wayne. But I expect him back tomorrow by dinner, got it grandpa?”
Wayne, to his credit, smiles politely and nods. Mumbling something about making Eddie work overtime as you laugh, he hears Ziggy blubber sadly, probably upset that she’s in her car seat.
He spots Motley when you open your door to get in, leaning against the window already staring at him. There is a glum look on her expression and Eddie feels that stab wound tighten. She hates him, she can’t even smile when she sees him anymore. Billy must have told her what a fuckimg freak he was.
Instead of crawling into the hole he wants to, he merely raises a hand slowly to wave, attempting to seem like everything was fine.
She raised her own hand, and Eddie thinks he’s mistaken when she presses it to the glass of the window as you drive off.
“You okay?” Wayne asks, rubbing his boys shoulder.
“Not really.”
-
True to his word Eddie calls the next morning, only to be surprised when he hears Motleys voice answer.
“Hello?” She asks.
“Hey Mot…ley.” Eddie panics , thinking that she might now like her nicknames now. “I called for your ma.”
“Oh.” She mumbles, obviously disappointed that it was him. “I can go get her……”
“Not if she’s busy, okay? I can call back later.” He hears her set the phone down and scamper off, feet hitting the hardwood of the kitchen as she rushes to find you. A couple minutes goes by and he hears both your voices trickle back into hearing distance, probably from the downstairs hallway.
“- dy Eddie. He just wanted to talk to you.” He hears Motley mumble, and that shooting pain was back. Eddie. She called him Eddie again.
Panic claws at him as he hears your footsteps get closer and he hangs up quickly, wiping the tears from his eyes.
-
After helping Wayne around the trailer he returns that evening, feeling lame and tired. Kicking his shoes off in the doorway, hearing your music downstairs which tells him you had probably started reading once putting the girls to bed.
He planned to shower and then go see you, so he makes his way to the room, shucking his jacket off and tossing it on the bed in the dark.
“Heyyy.” Someone whines, making him stop and look to the bed to see Motley climbing out from the blankets and pillows, eyes wide. “Watch it.”
“Sorry kid,” he smiles, moving to grab the jacket. “Didn’t see ya there.”
She giggles softly, moving to the middle of the bed and turning on the light before going back to her spot. He gives her a soft smile before moving to grab clothes and heading to the master bathroom only for her to call out.
“I’m sorry.”
“For what?” He asks, turning with wide eyes.
“I’m sorry I was mean and hurt your feelings. I’m sorry I made you mad.” Tears well in her eyes as she says it which makes his chest clench.
“Hey hey. I’m not mad.” He says softly, moving to sit on the edge of the bed, she immediately crawls over and crawls into his lap.
“You are! That’s why you didn’t want to come home!” She cries. “You hate me now.”
“No no. Take a breath.” He tries to calm her down, rubbing her back in soft circles as she sucks in a deep breath.
“I made you mad…”
“You didn’t make me mad, I just had to help Grandpa Wayne with some stuff. He’s old now. He needs help.” Eddie offers, still rubbing her back. She calms down a bit, face pressed into his chest as she slowly puts herself back to sleep.
He carries her into her own room, making sure she’s nice and comfortable when he tucks her in before going back to the master bedroom to shower.
When he comes back out he finds you waiting on the bed, a smile smile tugging st your lips. “Hey stud.”
“Hi baby,” he whispers, moving to lay down. He gives you one kiss before laying down and shoving his face into the pillow quickly, desperate to sleep.
“Do you wanna talk about it?” You ask, rubbing a hand on his back.
“Nothing to talk about. I’m fine. Just wanted to give her space is all.” He sighs.
“She loves you Eddie.”
“I know.” He lies, closing his eyes to sleep
-
Motley spent the next day at the Harrington household while Eddie and you went to shop for some last minute gifts you hadn’t gotten at the beginning of the month.
With Christmas being only a week away now you were beginning to panic and Eddie was doing his best to ease your anxieties as you tried to think of what the girls would want.
“I think we got everything.” You sigh out when you make it to the car, Eddie pushing the cart filled to the brim with bags as he rubs your back. There was something off about you today and he felt guilty that he hadn’t come home until late last night.
“I think we did.” He moves away only to open the back of the van, beginning to pile all the bags in before he hears you gag and dash to the chunk of grass he parked near.
“Shit- “ he snaps, tripping over himself as he tries to get to you to hold your hair. “You okay? Nervous about Christmas?”
“Y-yeah…” you whine, rubbing the back of your hand under your nose to wipe the snot after you finish puking. “Over stressed myself is all.”
He sighs, helping you up and getting you set up in the van before moving to finish his original task.
He spends the rest of the day making sure you’re okay and wrapping the gifts. He tries to change his handwriting on the tags so Motley would think other people were signing them. Make her think she got a gift from Santa and the elves and one from Mrs. Claus before he took his coffee grounds and make a hoof print on the gift he had made from Rudolph.
He hides them all in the basements laundry room, moving to wake you up when he’s done.
-
Two days before Christmas Eve Motley and Ziggy go with Billy again, and Eddie makes himself scarce when they are dropped back off the next day, wanting to give Motley room to breathe in case she needs it.
He hides in the basement, keeping his headphones in as he practices guitar, hearing the echo of stomping around upstairs. She had come home in another mood, that much he had figured out by the sounds of her yelling when she came in.
The phone rings in the distance and Eddie ignores everything as he practices more riffs until your in front of him with a small smile. “That was Gareth. They wanted to rehearse? Asked if you could head over.”
“Oh?” He asks, standing up. The perfect excuse to give Motley some space without hurting anyone’s feelings had just arrived and he was gonna take it. “I’ll head over now.”
“Are you gonna be home for dinner?” You ask softly, face tense with worry and exhaustion.
“We’ll probably practice too late.” He sighs, kissing you before moving to walk away.
“Eds?” You call, making him look back at you as you stress. “Y-you’re okay…… right?”
“I’m okay.” He lies. Really he feels pathetic, useless, a lame ass excuse for a stepdad. ……he feels like his father.
She just needs space.  He thinks to himself, smiling at you. But deep down he already knows it’s not working. He loves his girls but if they don’t love him back then he is just dragging them down.
And his heart breaks at the thought of the inevitable.
I don’t wanna say bye.
As he passes the hallway to pack clothes for the night he sees that the Tiffany poster on Motleys door had been ripped down the middle, and he risks a peek in to find it the missing piece wadded in the trash along with her fleetwood poster she got around thanksgiving.
Sighing in defeat he shuffles to grab his bag and head out.
-
The morning of Christmas Eve he wakes up to find that sometime in the night Motley had crawled into bed with you and Eddie, curled up between you two with tear streaks down her face.
Nightmares, nasty little things.
He kisses her cheek lightly before getting up to get ready for work. By the time he is putting on his boots he finds her yawning and sitting up.
“Are you leaving?”
“Only for a bit.” He tries to sound positive. “I’ll be back soon.”
“Swear it?” She asks, eyes wide.
“Triple swear it.” He smiles back, and something eases in him when a smile breaks out across her face, going from ear to ear.
So he leans to kiss her cheek, taking the good mood while he can before heading to work and coming back home by 5. Only to find Billy’s Camaro in the driveway when he does come home.
Walking into the house, tense and tired from the day, to find Billy sitting on the couch as you work in the kitchen. You send him a quick look and Eddie follows, rushing into the kitchen with you.
“He invited himself for dinner.” You whisper.
“Why?”
“Because Motley told me I couldn’t come for Christmas morning.” Billy snaps from the doorway, leaning on it like he owned the place. “Which is really fucking weird considering that I’m her dad. I should be able to see her on Christmas. And I can only assume that you’re the one saying no Munson.”
“Hadn’t even known that we had that discussion but sure. I’ll take the hit.” Eddie smiles. “Cause you are 1000% banned from this house on Christmas Day.”
“You can’t separate me from my kids.” Billy snaps.
“We’re not. You can have dinner with us tonight, but you can’t be here tomorrow.” There were far too many people coming tomorrow that Eddie did not want having to deal with Billy, and he didn’t want your day being ruined by this asshat.
“I’d prefer the dinner to be a family occasion” Billy snipes. “And last I checked you weren’t.”
“Eddie is family.” You snipe back, backing up when Billy glared at you. “This is our home. His home. He stays.”
And before he knew it everyone was seated at the table, in the most uncomfortable dinner of his life. You were just pushing food around your plate, while Eddie was doing his best to stay cool.
“How are your grades Motley?” Billy asks, turning a heavy look to her.
“I’m one of the top in my class-“
“One of?” Billy interrupts.
“They have top three. They all tie in that spot so the kids don’t lose self esteem in the competition.” Eddie explains, tapping a ring on the table in annoyance.
“That’s bullshit. If her grades are the best then that needs to be said-“
“She’s doing fine. Her grades will help win a pizza party at the end of the year.” You snap, rubbing her cheek.
“I just want to make sure I’m not raising a retard that turns into a super senior.”
“What’s that mean?” Motley asks, wide eyed as Ziggy shoves some spaghetti in her mouth.
“Oh baby, it’s noth-“ you begin but Eddie cuts you off, looking her gently.
“It means I wasn’t good in school. I got held back from graduating for three years. That’s right. I was held back another year after you…. Well you know.”
“You got something to say to me, jackass?”
“Not really.” Eddie snipes, picking up his plate and heading to the kitchen before he loses his temper. Lucky him that Billy was set to follow.
“So this is where Motley gets all that attitude huh?! Some shit for brain pathetic piece of shit starts raising my daughter, showing her shit music and telling her the world is all rainbows and sunshine. Right?!”
“We’ll she’s 7. The world is supposed to be a little brighter-“ Eddie starts, watching as Billy grabs the front of his jacket and shoves him into the cabinets behind him.
“You think you’re something, huh?! Well you’re nothing more than a trailer trash piece of shit!” Billy yells in his face, and Eddie remains bland. Not letting any motion on his face as he shrugs.
Motley was going to hate him.
This would never work because your kids needed to come first, and Eddie knew that. He would always put them first. If he stayed with you Motley would soon begin to resent you.
He couldn’t let that happen.
“No. I don’t think I’m anything more than a piece of shit. I’m quite good in that life.” He shrugs. “And it’s not shit music that she was listening to, it was her choice of music. Music she liked, and if she likes it then it’s not shit.”
Billy laughs bitterly, then Eddie can do nothing but watch his hand pull back into a fist, getting him right in the face.
Pain shoots through his face as his head hits the cupboard behind him hearing the wood crack at the impact. Motley screams out loud “DADDY!” And Eddie assumes she’s screaming for Billy to stop.
He didn’t want to hit her dad in front of her, so he took it. Punch after punch from Billy before you jump on the man’s back, hitting him to get him off Eddie.
Billy pushes you off quickly, making you tumble to the floor as Motley runs for you before you try and ease her back. Eddie can’t feel his face but he knows it’s swollen and bloody, spitting out the taste of iron as he swipes a hand under his nose, pain shooting through him when he does so.
Motley is still screaming, over and over “DADDY DADDY!” And when Billy takes one aggressive step over to where she is in your arms Eddie finally loses it.
He shoves at Billy’s back, drawing his attention back and taking one quick swing across Billy’s cheek. One of his rings slices his cheek as Billy’s head whips to the side. But Eddie doesn’t stop, too built up on protective rage.
Ziggy is screaming in the background, Motley crying for her dad while you hold her back. Eddie takes a couple more hits, pushing Billy to the door so they wouldn’t have an audience. Only problem is the second Eddie pushes Billy out he finds a cop car already waiting, the cop hopping out and rushing to the scene.
-
Christmas morning was spent inside a jail cell with a broken nose, Eddie laying on one of the benches staring up at the ceiling and trying not to think about how much his face hurt right now.
One of the neighbors had heard yelling and called the cops, who had taken 15 minutes to respond. And since Eddie didn’t start hitting back until the end he could only assume that meant he had taken nearly 15 minutes of that beating.
What a fucking coward.
He had hit Billy in front of Motley. Oh my god her entire Christmas would be ruined right now. He was an absolute piece of shit.
“Hey kid?” Someone calls, making Eddie try to open his unswollen eye and see. Hopper stood there in mundane clothes, sighing in disappointment. “Thought we agreed last time I arrested you that it would be the last time.”
“What can I say?” He croaks out, dropping his head again. “I’m trailer trash. Always have been and always will be.”
“Come on pity party.” Hopper sighs, unlocking the door. “You’ve been cleared. Witness statements.”
So they had questioned you. Fuck.
When he grabs his rings and jacket from the clerk he doesn’t bother putting them on, keeping everything in the bag including his chain and wallet. He puts the shoes on, groaning in pain when he bends over, before moving to see that Wayne had come to pick him up.
“Uncle Wayne,” Eddie grunts, not bothering to smile due to the cut on his lip and cheek.
Wayne doesn’t say anything, merely leads Eddie out, keeping a hand on his arm to help lead him to the car since he can only open one eye.
When they are both jn Wayne lights a cigarette, handing it to his nephew. “Have some before we get there. Relax you a bit.”
“Get where?”
“Your house? It’s Christmas? We agreed I’d bring gifts for the girls and get a nice meal?” Wayne asks.
“No. I’m not going there. Not like this and not after that.” Eddie snaps, tears falling from his eye as he thinks about it. That would just ruin Motleys Christmas even more. He couldn’t do that.
“I just wanna sleep.”
“Edward Wayne Munson.”
“Wayne John Munson.”
The sigh that falls from his uncles lips tells Eddie that he won.
-
(A POV from you? Gasp!)
After watching Eddie and Billy both get arrested you had to give a statement to the police, not like you could actually get a word out considering you were sobbing.
Eddie was bleeding profusely and could barely open his eye when they dragged him to the car, Motley sobbing at your hip as they did so. The officer talking to you tried to calm you down, rubbing your back in a soothing motion that didn’t work and only stressed you out more. You begged them to let Eddie go but the officer said it was protocol and that you should call in the morning to give your statement.
But you didn’t. You sat there with that cop until you calmed down and gave a proper statement, he said he would write a report and get it all sorted so you took Motley in. Getting both girls showered and ready for bed. After tucking them in, still crying, you found yourself moving to the kitchen to clean up the mess. Starting with the the broken glass that had fallen, then the dishes before you moved to scrub the floor, crying harder when you had to scrub Eddie’s blood.
At some point Motley came out, rushing into your arms to keep sobbing so you took her back to yours and Eddie’s room to try and get her to sleep there. You put her in one of Eddie’s sweatshirts before laying with her and trying to calm her down.
“He hurt daddy.” She sobs.
“Honey, Eddie was just trying to-“
“No. Billy hurt Daddy.” She explains. “It’s my fault. I told him he couldn’t come over on Christmas!”
There it was. You had wondered since Billy brought it up, you hadn’t said anything and Eddie hadn’t. So why had Motley?
“Why would you do that Motley? That was an adult decision that you should have let me tell him. I don’t want you getting in trouble because-“
“He’s mean to daddy, I didn’t want him bullying daddy! Okay?!” She cries, swiping her cheeks. “But now Daddy hates me! He hates me mama!”
“No. He doesn’t. He doesn’t hate you, okay?”
“He does!”
It took all but 30 minutes to lure Motley out of room after Eddie left for Wayne’s, promising her some chicken nuggets for dinner and that was it.
She ate silently with you before bath time, then when you sat with her on the couch before her bedtime while Ziggy slept in her crib, you noticed her watching the door every 2 minutes.
“What’s wrong?” You whisper, smoothing out her still damp hair.
“Is daddy Eddie coming back for bedtime?” She asks, scratching her arm. “He always lays with me.”
“He’s gonna be at Grandpa Wayne’s tonight. Helping him out with something. We will see him tomorrow, okay metalhead?”
“Okay.”
Only when you called the next morning there was no answer, Motley getting dressed beside you with a look of excitement on her face as it rang.
“Is he there? Ask him when he’ll be home!”
“He didn’t pick up ,baby, I’m sure they are busy. We will see him later okay? Maybe we can have dinner at the diner.”
And that’s what she talked about for the rest of the day, you tried asking about her time at Billy’s but she simply shut the conversation down. By the time dinner time came about she was upset that Eddie hadn’t come back so you offered to go to Grandpa Wayne’s and pick them up.
You had been there for about 5 minutes when the van pulled up and you could hear the gasps of excitement from Motley when Eddie hops out.
Inviting him to dinner, only for Eddie to be nervous and say no. He looked upset, and you were beginning to panic deep down.
Please don’t leave us. I love you. You wanted to say but you were pretty sure that would scare him off more.
Who wanted the mother of two with the racist abusive ex? Right?
When you drove off without him Motley was just as upset. “Why didn’t he come mama?”
“He had some more stuff to help with.” You answer, smiling at her through the mirror.
“Why didn’t he say hi?”
“He’s just not feeling good.” Lie lie lie.
The next day you were doing laundry while Motley was dashing around upstairs and Ziggy was waddling around you.
The sound of the phone ringing didn’t draw your attention since you were too busy trying to kick the washing machine into working. But when your daughter dashed down the stairs you looked at her.
“PHONE!”
“Who is it?”  You ask, laughing at her excitement as you snatch Ziggy up and follow her up the stairs.
“Daddy Eddie. He just wants to talk to you though.” And you found yourself rushing to the phone, only when you got there it was just the dial tone.
“Is he coming home? Can I do his hair when he gets back?” She asks hopefully.
“Maybe later.”
By the time you realized he was back Motley was on her own bed and the shower to your shared bathroom was running so you laid on the bed waiting for him to come out.
When he did your heart beat out of your chest, nervous and in love.
He laid down, face in the pillow as you let him know Motley loved him.
All he could say was “I know” before falling asleep and you were heartbroken.
He’s gonna leave.
Two days before Christmas Eve when Motley is dropped off from Billys  he doesn’t say a word, merely tosses her bag at you as he slams his car door and drives off.
Motley storms past you, pushing into the door as you carry Ziggy in, watching her in shock. “I HATE HIM AND I HATE YOU!”
Eddie, who had been waiting in the kitchen, sulks downstairs to give her space and you feel a twist in your gut. “That’s not fair to Eddie, Mot.”
“I’m not talking about Eddie. I’m talking about HIM!” She screams, stomping to her room and ripping the poster from her door.
“Hey!” You snap, following her and trying to get her to stop as she tears down the Elvis and Fleetwood Mac poster.
“I HATE HIM I HATE HIM I HATE HIM! It’s bullshit!” She screams, slamming the door. Only she slams it so hard it creaks open a little. Before you could make it worse the phone rings and you find yourself heading downstairs to tell Eddie about the call.
The excitement on his face breaks your heart as you realize he is so desperate to get away from you. Jesus you trapped him didn’t you?
By the time Motley comes out of her room she looks around for a minute, sitting at the table. “Where’s daddy?”
“Band practice.” You smile.
“When will he be back?”
“Don’t worry about that. Just eat.” You felt bad about the short answer. But you were upset about the way she was acting and you were upset that she said she hated you. Not to mention the way she ripped the posters and the way Eddie seemed to run from you.
You already dragged her away from Billy once, now she was going to lose another father because of your mess. You were a terrible mother.
She hates me , and so does Eddie.
“He will be here, okay? Daddy would never miss Christmas.” You smile, crying softly yourself. “Just wait and see. Daddy will be home.”
She calmed down a bit at your promise, laying beside you.
“I asked santa for dad back last year….” She mumbles. “And he gave me an even better one.”
“Yeah, he did.”
You don’t get a lick of sleep, waiting all night for the sound of the door to open. They had to have released Eddie, right?
You overthink it all as you sneak all the gifts out to the tree, ones that Eddie wrapped while you were sick and see all the dedication he put into them which just makes your heart melt more.
When the sun starts coming up you realize that maybe no officers were there to release him and they would in the morning during normal processing hours so you focus on starting the meal and getting the girls ready.
Motley refuses to go near her presents, choosing to wait for Eddie. You’re okay with it, letting Ziggy open a gift since you know it will take her forever.
You focus on cooking while Motley waits on the couch watching out the window.
But then people start showing up for the early dinner and you begin to let that panic sink in. Steve shows up, his two sons dashing for Motley as Nancy waddles in behind them. They thought three dishes that they add to the table. Steve asks about the broken cabinet but before you explain Lucas and Mike show up with their own dishes.
One after one they all show up and sook enough you break from the crowd to go in your room and call the station.
“I’m looking for Edward Munson? He should have been released by now but-“
“He was released two hours ago.” The kid on the phone sighs. “Anything else.”
You don’t respond, choosing to hang out and close your door so your guests don’t see you cry.
He wasn’t coming, you had messed everything up like usual. God you were pathetic.
Just as Billy would say, useless as hell.
Shuffling to the bathroom to try and catch your breath, turning on the water and sitting under it as you try to ease the panic attack.
The pink pregnancy test box stares back at you from the trash bin, the actual test on the counter where you had planned to surprise Eddie.
God I can’t do anything right.
Part lll HERE
(OHHHH I really hope this chapter didn't disappoint. Please please please no hate on it! If you want to see something specific such as a blurb or scene with Eddie and the girls feel free to request. -Ultralight)

NEW DC PERSON!!!!!!
hello im going to give you some tidbits
DO NOT TRUST FRANK MILLER’S COMICS. His Batman: Year One is good, but everything after that is bad. Seriously, his batman got nicknamed Crazy Steve because of the belief that this could not be Bruce.
Young Justice did not actually kill Santa, they simply witnessed his death. Also Constantine snorting his bones was unrelated.
Tim Drake is canonically some flavor of queer (i think he’s bi) and has a boyfriend
Dick Grayson was killed by Lex Luthor once but he came back immediately and was turned into a spy
Jason Todd was 4’6 and 87 pounds when he died so it’s extremely common for fans to think that jaybin (jason-robin) was adorable.
Tim Drake attempted to clone his best friend (Superboy aka Kon-El) 99 times. If you want to see what that would have been like if it worked and they became a couple, go to Timkon Clone Baby AU.
If you like crossovers, get into Miraculous Ladybug, Danny Phantom, or White Collar. (I like Danny Phantom and White Collar). Though DCxDP might not be for you if you dislike vivisection.
Clones are common. They’re just around. Off the top of my head there’s Bizarro, Superboy, Terry McGinnis, Robin of Zur-En-Arrh, Heretic, Will Harper, Match, Inertia, etc.
Billy Batson is *baby*. We call him Captain Marvel still because it makes no sense for the word he can’t say to be his hero name. He was 8 years old and homeless when he became a superhero and happens to be the God of Gods. If you like secret identity reveals, it’s common in the Captain Marvel fandom.
Bruce Wayne’s legal kids are Dick Grayson (flippy Robin) Cassandra Cain (understands all body language), Jason Todd (dead Robin), Tim Drake (smart Robin), Duke Thomas (human lightbulb/gang Robin), and Damian Wayne (stabby Robin)
OMG HELLO! THANK YOU FOR THE WELCOME!
1. This is the second time I see Frank Miller mentioned and he scares me haha.
2. Constantine is fucking insane and I love him.
3. I know he's queer! Dating Bernard now! I'm so happy for him.
4. Omg is that the whole Spyral thing?? I need to know. How come ppl don't obsess over that death?? The fanfics for Dick are solely lacking.
5. JASON SMOL. I'M CRYING.
6. They were canon in a universe?? Really?? Fucking wild. I need it.
7. Somebody NEEDS to explain the Danny Phantom and White Collar thing to me. It's a NEED. How??
8. Love the clones!! Incredible idea. I'm so sorry Kon doesn't get the love he deserves from Superman :((
9. Captain Marvel is great! I saw him in Young Justice only. Does the movie Shazam do him justice?
10. Aksnalsnalsks the way you described them killed me. I'm glad Dick was adopted! I read he was adopted as a child. And can someone tell me what Duke's story is?? Cuz idk. Also, I love Damian so much, he's my baby.

I both love and hate that Billy won’t admit his true feelings to a girl he cares about. That’s just so canon. I can see him the second he starts having feelings, freaking out in his head and distancing himself. Poor Bills 😫 Maybe that’s why I love fanfic where he has a happy ending. He really deserves one
Idk if you were asking for little blurbs but, that’s what you GET! <3
Ughhhh same same. I think he’s just so…. Fearful perhaps? Really afraid and stubborn to just open up and share what he feels (also also also the fear of being abandoned is soooo strong when he’s with someone he cares about in my opinion).
So then yes he starts distancing himself because it’s easier for him to put up those walls before he gets hurt, but maybe you’re also a little stubborn. Or just oblivious. And despite the fact that he is really trying to get away from you, you just can’t let that happen. <3
I think he’d be pretty strict on you two being “Just friends.” No arguments, he’s too scared to fully talk about labels or that he’d like you enough to consider you to be his partner (he’s crazy about you).
And I think you’d also have to deal with this man staring at you just all the time. He loves eye contact already but he also just loves to memorize how you look?? Definitely has your little quirks down and when you ask him why he’s staring he’s always gonna say you have something on your face lmao.
I think he’s also like reserved about physical touch? Very scared of accidentally hurting you at first and it’s just so uncommon to him that he gets all nervous and his hands get all sweaty and clammy lol. But once he’s over that?? He’s touching you all the time, everywhere and it doesn’t matter who’s around lol.
And so yeah maybe he won’t admit that he’s absolutely whipped and crazy about you but I think you could certainly tell by his gestures? Soft nose kisses, tracing your lips and holding you close any time he can <3
He will definitely refer to you as his pretty girl (or pretty boy whichever you prefer). I think he’d definitely warm up to like baby or babe but calling his person pretty really warms his heart <3
Piggybacking off of that like… he would get so flustered and defensive if you compliment him. Would act like he cannot believe you did such a thing and pshhh, him? Pretty?? Absolutely cannot handle you saying such things about him. He knows he’s attractive but something about you saying it so gently, so sweetly and softly makes his knees weak.
Okay and I think at first too he just… is not the best gift giver. He has not had that practice before so it’s not necessarily sloppy but when he buys you things it would be within the hobby that you enjoy, but more of his style (for instance if you like reading he’s 100% getting you his favorite genre or book). Which is also, sweet but I do think he’s observant enough that after the first few times he truly understand what you like and what you don’t like.
I also think he’s down with restaurant dates and going to the movie theater and what not but I truly believe he loves to do things that are more sensual and deep? He’s definitely a late night, lying under the stars and having deep talks kind of guy. It takes a lot for him to open up but you best believe he has you memorized like the back of his hand.
AND I also think he is just such a gentleman?? Holding the door open for you, holding your hand as you step up a curb, giving you his jacket?? All of those omg.
I think he’d also ask your parents permission to date/marry you and all of that stuff (granted you have a good relationship with him). He just seems like he’d really want to have a good relationship with them too??
I’d also like to think that he just admits his feelings just randomly, maybe not even fully realizing he did it either?? Say you’re sat together on your couch early on a Saturday morning watching cartoons, definitely a little hungover, and he’s just like “You know I love you, right?”
And you’re just so taken aback and this is definitely not the scene that you imagined (neither did he) but it just works. Takes a lot for you to muster the words back because how emotional would that be?? Then he’d just squeeze your knee with a little smile and settle back into comfortable silence 🥺
Idk if any of this made sense but but he’s just my special little guy I luv him very dearly hehe

୧ ‧₊˚ 🎐 ⋅ your lips my lips
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: modern!blue collar!billy the kid x fem!reader author's notes: just a small thing about our boy billy .. inspired by this couple that stopped outside of my dorm and when i was talking to my friend in the lobby, the couple was being in love in the middle of the window and i was damn near gonna break down they were so cute warnings: fluff :p i believe this man is a loverboy fr summary: a night with billy after not seeing each other in a while </3
Tumblr media
a few days have passed since you had a date night with billy. he'd been busy at the workshop, building a few pieces for his clients while you were occupied with university work. he insisted on taking you out tonight, claiming that you both needed a break from the world just to be together.
of course, you didn't turn him down as the distance between you was starting to take its toll on you, as your schedules rarely aligned. even though you managed to keep in touch with him here and there, the brief moments of connection weren’t enough to ease the growing ache of being apart.
however, to avoid being behind on your schoolwork, you told him you couldn't stay the night with him as you needed time to study. he first protested this, claiming that you deserve a night free of work and responsibility. but as the stubborn girl that he knew you were, he reluctantly agreed to it.
he drove to your university's building and you excitedly opened the door to finally see billy. but your eyes caught sight of your favorite flowers, "billy! you shouldn't have!" you gasped as you settled your bag inside and sat down.
"what do you mean? i gotta get the prettiest flowers for my pretty girl," he replied, his heart-tugging at your bright smile at the flowers. he hands you the flowers as he starts to drive, you immediately put the flowers up to your nose to get a whiff of the scent.
your heart melts at the gesture and you instantly feel at peace being in his presence. you kiss him on his cheek, grateful for the flowers.
he was completely devoted to making you smile, always going out of his way to brighten your day because he loved you more than anything. your happiness meant the world to him, and he would do whatever it took to see that spark of joy in your eyes.
he drives you to your guy's favorite restaurant and you ask him what he's been up to. he proudly tells you about the bedroom set he's been building for this couple he met two weeks ago. expressing how he's been working hard for it which accounts for his lack of free time.
he asks you how schoolwork has been going, wondering if the stress has gotten to you as it usually does. you express how it has a little but you try not to get it to you but it can be too much.
he feels a little guilt for his lack of presence and your heart tugs at how sympathetic billy can be. he holds your hand a little tighter and brings the back of your hand up to his lips to kiss it.
your eyes lock after and theres this protective and safe aura that you always feel when you're with billy. he never fails to make you feel at home and comforted.
as soon as you see him, your stress melts away, and you forget why you were even worried. when billy is there, he shields you from your self-doubts about school, making everything feel right again.
you spend the night close to each other, savoring the precious time you have together. there is no doubt that your love language with billy is physical touch. your hands are always tangled together or your arms are looped around his. and whenever you can, you're always sitting next to each other.
you and billy savor the familiar ambiance of your favorite restaurant, relishing the warm glow of the dim lighting, the comforting aroma of your favorite dishes. the dinner goes on surrounded by the cozy atmosphere, feeling completely at ease, enjoying every moment together.
you get up after paying and head out for ice cream before he drops you off at your place.
the city hums quietly around you as you and billy wander through the streets, each step unhurried, savoring the calm of the night. you both hold onto your ice creams, the cool sweetness a perfect contrast to the warm summer breeze. his smile catches the glow of the streetlights, and you can't help but feel a lightness in your chest.
the laughter comes easily, conversations flowing effortlessly as you navigate the familiar paths. now and then, your shoulders brush, a small, reassuring touch that makes the world feel just a little bit smaller and a whole lot better.
in this moment, with billy by your side, everything seems just right. unfortunately, as the night goes on, your time together dwindles minute by minute.
you and billy slowly walk to the entrance of your building. your bag hung over his shoulders like the gentleman he is.
you turn to him pouting, not wanting the night with him to end. "i don't wanna leave you, who knows when i'm gonna see you again," you say sadly
"we'll see each other soon enough pretty, ill see you monday right?" he reassures, hiding his sadness to keep you hopeful and not too sad. he presses his lips gently against your forehead, trying to calm your worries.
as he pulls back, you wrap your arms around his neck, drawing him closer. your lips meet in a tender, lingering kiss, soft and slow, as if trying to savor every precious moment. the kiss deepens, filled with the warmth and affection you both share, making everything else fade away.
when you finally part, you hold each other in a tight embrace, both reluctant to let go. the hug is filled with unspoken words and a shared sense of longing, making it hard to separate as the night comes to an end.
"study hard for me, pretty," he says muffled by your hair. "don’t forget to take breaks, my love, please,’ he pleads, his voice filled with concern.
he continues, "i want you to remember that i’m here for you, always." you take a deep breath and rest your head against him, whispering, ‘I know, billy. I love you."
the thought of being apart again tugs at your heart, but knowing that he’s always looking out for you and there for you makes everything a bit easier to bear.
you slowly pull away from each other, savoring the final moments of your embrace. his gaze lingers on yours, and you both lean in for one last, tender kiss. the kiss is soft and lingering. as your lips part, you both feel a bittersweet mix of warmth and longing.
with a final, lingering gaze into each other's eyes, you ask him to text you when he’s safely home. he nods, his voice filled with affection as he says, "I love you."
"i love you more" you reply with a smile on your face, but before you turn to head back inside, he quickly replies. "noooo, i love you more" he teases; insisting on ending a night in a silly way.
you playfully roll your eyes at him and head inside, saying goodbye for the last time tonight. you walk to the elevator each step with the memory of your intimate night together. glad that you were able to see him after so long.
his words linger in your head and you become hopeful and excited for the next time your seeing each other.

love how its unanimous that billy would follow you home
YES HE WOULD AND HERE’S HOW IT GOES
because it’s been a couple weeks since the “incident” as you call it, when you swore you could hear a voice in the wind and feel the way your hair somehow brushed behind your ear.
and it’s been 3 or 4 nights now since billy has started to follow you home after dark. it started after you told him some creepy dudes had made passing comments at you as you walked home last week, and he decided that he needed to follow you. just in case. he knew he probably couldn’t protect you the way he wanted to, but it eased his anxiety to go with you.
but now here he was, sitting on the edge of your bed as you slept so peacefully. he glanced around your room, taking in all of your decorations and belongings, his chest feeling that familiar warm ache. you stirred slightly in your sleep, your brow furrowing for a moment.
billy watched silently, hoping you weren’t having a bad dream or anything. he’d hate to watch that happen, you deserved only the loveliest of dreams. but then the impossible happened.
your eyes fluttered open sleepily, and you looked right at him.
you, with your pretty eyes that have never once met his, now staring into his own. you didn’t scream, you didn’t flinch away or gasp.
you whispered his name. he stared at you, his own eyes wide as saucers, as you slowly sat up and rubbed your eyes. “billy?” you whispered again, voice laced with sleep. “s’at really…you?”
“y-you can see me?” he asked in return, voice just as quietly. his shock grew even more when you nodded. you could see him and hear him.
which was strange on your part as well, don’t get me wrong. you were still half asleep, unsure of what was going on. you didn’t know how you knew who this was, you just did. you wondered if you were dreaming, and you asked so out loud.
“no, sweetheart. you’re not dreaming,” he said softly, shaking his head. he wasn’t fully solid in front of you, though. he looked…off. there was a very faint, hazy glow about him, almost like he was being backlit by a soft light.
“how…?” you asked, mind still muddled from your slumber. billy shook his head again, unsure.
“i don’t really know…” he admitted.
and this wasn’t what you expected. not that he didn’t know how this happened, but the way he looked sitting there in your room. the longer you looked at him, the more you noticed.
his hat was perched on his head, one side crushed just a bit. he had adorned it with a couple of ribbons around the crown, one braided and one solid. his clothes seemed worn but not dirty or too damaged, just a dark blue button up shirt and black trousers. your eyes flickered down to his waist, where a belt filled with bullets was slung haphazardly around the narrowest part of him. at his right hip, a gun holster sat empty.
you reached out slowly, your movement unsure. your eyes flickered back up to his face to see if he was going to pull away from you, but he didn’t. he simply watched you, awestruck and curious.
you went to touch his soft looking leather suspender, but your hand passed right through him. it felt as though you’d put your hand inside of a freezer, the air cold and still.
billy was staring at you, unmoving. after a moment, he said gently, “are you scared?”
one corner of billy’s mouth turned up slowly as you shook your head and spoke again, just as softly as he had.
“no.”

Billy (Burn, 2019) - Headcanons
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Description: [18+ MDNI] AU where Billy survives the film's events and settles down with you in a secluded town. You start a small garden, build a tiny chicken coop, and raise some kids together. / Billy x GN!Reader
General Notes: Random Headcanons/Moments, No Mention Of Conception/Adoption (it’s completely up for interpretation), No Mention Of Your Children’s Gender, Use Of “Daddy” (in reference to Billy), The Word “Parent” Is In Reference To The Reader, Mention/Eating of Candy, Mention Of Billy’s Burn On His Face (film), Purely Lighthearted, Light Amount Of Cursing, Mention Of Smoking
Author’s Note: Feeling domestic as hell and I was having trouble with my other fic so I decided to have fun instead. :) Thank you to @killerpixel for inspiring and creating some of these with me! Enjoy. <3 <3 Word Count/Bullet Point Count: 1,120 Words/51 Bullet Points
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your kids decide to draw with chalk on the driveway and Billy can’t bring himself to hose it off (that is until it rains), so he parks his shitty Camry on the dirt instead to make sure it doesn’t get messed up
He keeps a drawer full of their crafts/drawings, he does not have the heart to throw them out and probably never will
One of the crafts is literally a bent paperclip colored with red marker
Billy helps a lot in the garden and with the chickens, so the kids make him a set of “tools” out of paper and glue for him to use when he works (this made him cry)
He sings badly for them to help them sleep and tells them bedtime stories in funny voices, he gets embarrassed when you overhear him [thank @xcherryerim for this one <3]
When the kids are old enough, they eventually ask him about the burn on his face and he makes a different joke every time
“Oh, I was riding my motorcycle and a monster that hates motorcycles attacked me! Don’t ride motorcycles unless daddy takes you, okay?”
“Stop! You’re going to scare them, Billy!” “Okay, fine… So anyway, then a giant humanoid moth came out- ”
“Daddy, you met mothman?!” “Yeah, I met mothman! Your parent was actually married to mothman when I met them.” “Billy!” “You have moth-baby sisters and brothers.” “Billy, I’m leaving you and I’m taking the kids.”
The next day he makes mothman shaped pancakes, it becomes a running gag in the family
He manages to find mothman costumes for the kids for Halloween that year, so there are a bunch of tiny mothman’s running around the house and neighborhood
When you and Billy take them trick-or-treating that night, he has to (reluctantly) stop them from scaring the other kids on purpose (he is laughing the entire time)
Billy absolutely takes advantage of the “candy tax” and eats some of their candy as he looks through it, much to their disappointment
“I need to make sure there’s no poison!”
“Aww man, that one was poisoned…”
He pretends to collapse on the ground and scares the shit out of your children
Once they realize he’s messing with them, they dogpile on him and he looks to you for help
“I’m being crushed to death.” “Good, you deserve it.”
Soon after, the kids pass out on the couch surrounded by candy and still in their mothman onesies where Billy carries them all to their beds and kisses their little chocolate-covered foreheads
They definitely wake up sick the next morning from eating too much candy (he let them so you make him clean up after their mess)
Circling back to his burn, he’s applying scar gel/treatment on his face and he explains to his kids that it helps his face heal and stops it from hurting
They immediately start applying all of the cream to his face frantically and he lets them
“If I put more on, it’ll stop hurting faster!” “That’s not how that works, my love.”
“Daddy’s dying!” “No! It’s okay! I feel so much better now, baby, you helped so much!”
Before you know it, the entire tube is gone and Billy’s face and neck smell entirely of aloe vera
“I fixed daddy’s face!” “Hmm… I don’t know, I think it needs more lotion. The other half is still a little funny-looking.” “Hey!”
Billy is folding the laundry and putting it away when he puts his own underwear on his head to make the kids laugh, soon they all put their clean underwear on their heads and take a selfie to send to you
Billy is giving one of your babies a bath and he gives them a funny little soap beard to show you while giggling
Very shortly after, the baby flicked soap into his eye
“Babe, my eye burns now.” “Aww, just like the rest of your face…”
One day, he takes the kids for a ride on his motorcycle (they were small enough to sit in front of him and he went at 5 mph up the street and back) and you got mad at him anyway
To make up for it, you make him pamper you for the next week (more than he does normally somehow)
Despite how terrified you were, your kid looked really cute in that big ass helmet
When it snows, he dresses up the kids and plays with them, building snowmen and pouring snow down the back of your sweater (this gets him in trouble again)
One time he threw a snowball at the back of one of your kids' heads, it was very small and mostly cushioned by the hood of their jacket but they went down face-first into the snow anyway
He was trying so hard to hold back his laugh as he helped them back up
He’s shoveling snow from the driveway one day and accidentally tosses some onto one of your toddlers
He feels really bad until the kid laughs and he does it again
Billy takes the kids to a community waterpark during the summer with his fake denim print swim trunks and they push him into the water
They’re playing marco polo and he loses sight of them for a total of 3 seconds because they decided to hide under the lawn chairs (he cries when you and him go to bed that night)
He also made sure the kids were absolutely slathered in sunblock when they went, but he forgot to put some on himself
The burn on his face gets irritated because of this and it makes me a little grumpy for the next few days, which leads one of your kids to bring him a flower from your garden
“It’ll make daddy’s red half feel better.”
He keeps the flower in his wallet until it turns to dust
One of your kids’ first words is your name, which kind of makes Billy jealous
The same kid takes their first steps toward him later on and Billy brags about it for the next year
Billy tries to quit smoking as soon as you start raising kids, but he still smokes outside sometimes when they’re not around
One time, one of them catches him and he can’t think of a good explanation for what he’s doing
“Oh, this? Uhh… it helps, um, with daddy’s… anger issues and stuff. It calms him down.”
The next day, at breakfast, your kid turns to you worried and a little sad
“Daddy turns into a dragon when he’s angry. Is he gonna eat me?”
Billy immediately throws out his last pack and doesn’t touch a cigarette for a long time after that

Author’s Note: Still a slow burn but Steve and the reader’s relationship is slowly starting to develop in this part! More of this chapter also represents Steve’s perspective on things, which was really fun to write. While your conversation last night had helped him calm down a bit about Nancy’s comments about their relationship, Steve was still trying really damn hard to keep his cool about it. After all the years of being an asshole and putting himself first, he knew he didn’t deserve for things to go his way. But it was his senior year. He had hoped at least something could go according to plan, but shit seemed like it just kept finding new ways to hit the fan.
This turned out to be especially true when he was in his P.E. class, playing basketball against the same ass who wouldn’t leave you alone at Tina’s last night. Gym was the one class he didn’t usually have to worry about, his athleticism allowing it to be a distraction from his other responsibilities. In other words, it was a piece of cake. Besides, outside of study hall, it was the only class he was taking that you were also in. He would be lying if he said that it didn’t give him a bit of an ego boost to know that you were always there to watch him show off with whatever sport they played. He happened to excel at all of them.
That was until this asshole Billy showed up. Steve was pretty sure Billy was still mad about the way he interfered in his futile attempt to seduce you last night, and it was showing on the court with the way Billy was shoving at Steve every chance he got.
“Alright, alright, King Steve everyone,” Billy taunted, laughing as he dribbled the ball, “I like it, playing tough today.”
“Do you ever stop talking, man? Come on,” Steve rolled his eyes. He was just about done with this dude’s shit.
“What? You afraid that coach is gonna bench you now that I’m here? Huh?” Billy asked, getting closer and closer to Steve. He shoved into Steve, causing the boy to take a hard fall, hitting the ground pretty hard, before Billy tossed the ball effortlessly into the hoop.
You rolled your eyes from the bleachers. Boys are so fucking stupid. You were glad coach didn’t care what the girls were doing during class, more focused on the extra practice that his team was getting in; the one time sexism paid off. Most of the time you just brought homework to work on, using the class as an additional study period.
You saw Billy grab Steve’s hand to help him up, saying something to him you couldn’t quite hear, before shoving him back down to the floor.
“Alright, let’s take five everyone! Go get water, stretch, whatever, just be back in here otherwise I’m marking you absent,” your coach yelled out the empty threat, and you hopped off the bleachers and made your way over to Steve.
“So, today doesn’t really seem like your day,” you teased, offering your hand to help Steve up. He gladly took it, happy that at least through all the (as Nancy would word it) bullshit, you were still there, something he couldn’t say for his girlfriend at the moment. He shoved the thought down.
“Evidently not. You know, that Billy Hargrove kid is a real pain in my ass,” Steve fumed, “I mean first he shows up driving like a mad man in the goddamn parking lot, and now he won’t stop fucking shoving me. Like hello? Is that not a fucking foul?! And don’t get me fucking started on him coming on to you at Tina’s last night and refusing to leave you the hell alone until I had to get involved. What if I wasn’t there? What would he have done to you? I swear if he talks to you one more—“
You cut him off, “woah, woah, woah, Steve. You need to calm down. He’s just an ass, it’s not worth your time. Plus, you know I can handle my own and he’s left me alone since then, so I’m sure it’s all going to be fine. Don’t worry about me.”
“That’s what you don’t get, y/n. I’m always worried about you,” he sounded exasperated and his tone was angry, but you knew it was misdirected. You tried not to flush at the sentiment. You knew that he cared but sometimes it still surprised you considering a year ago you were largely blissfully unaware of each other’s existence.
You decided it was best to give him a few moments to calm down. “I swear it’s all going to be fine,” you promised as you headed back to the bleachers. As you turned around, you suddenly realized that Nancy was there, gripping her purse strap as she made eye contact with you. She smiled a half smile and waved, and you wondered how much of last night she really remembered. You waved back as you took your seat.
She motioned for Steve to follow her outside and he hesitantly obliged, clearly not super excited about the conversation they were about to have. As soon as he cleared the doorway, you noticed a presence to your left turning to be met with the face of Billy Hargrove. You felt your heart stop in your chest. Even though you told Steve you could handle things on your own, it was a lot easier said than done.
“What do you want?” You demanded, facing forward to avoid giving him the satisfaction of your full attention.
“I just feel like we got off on the wrong foot is all,” he said, and you could hear the fake charm dripping from his lips like poison. You knew there were girls here that would fall for this shit, but you certainly weren’t one of them.
“I don’t know, I’m pretty partial to abiding by the first impression you set and I’m not feeling so generous as to give you a do over.”
He chuckled, “you’re feisty. I like that, you know.”
“I don’t give a rat’s ass what you do or do not like. Now if you could kindly leave me the fuck alone, I think your dumbass game is starting back up,” you nodded towards the court and the boys who had started to pass the ball again.
“You’ll see. You’re gonna give me a second chance, just wait,” he predicted as he hopped down the bleachers to join his classmates. Once he hit the court, Steve made his way back into the gym and you were thankful for the timing. The last thing you needed was these boys trying to kill each other. Steve looked a little bit defeated and you couldn’t help but wonder what Nancy had said.
Gym went on per usual for the last fifteen minutes of class: girls largely sitting in the bleachers, boys trying to show off for them, until the two groups finally parted ways to change and clean up in their respective locker rooms before the bell rang in ten minutes. You waved at Steve as you made your way out of the gym, and he offered a half-hearted one in return.
Steve’s conversation with Nancy had gone just about as bad as he thought it would. Of course she didn’t remember the shit she said last night; that would be too convenient. Steve was still hung up on the fact that she couldn’t even tell him that she loved him. Was it all just a lie?
Steve headed over to the showers and undressed, hoping that the hot water could wash away some of the anger he was feeling. He had a tendency to be hot headed at times, but he was trying to turn over a new leaf. He was trying to be better, and he wasn’t going to let his temper get the best of him.
He watched as Billy made his way over to him, picking the shower to his right as turned the water on, “don’t sweat it Harrington. Today’s just not your day, man.”
Perfect, this was just perfect. Steve ignored him, continuing to run shampoo through his hair.
“More like not your week,” Tommy H added as he stepped up beside the two boys, “you and the princess break up and she immediately runs off with the freak’s brother.”
“Bullshit. I just talked to her.”
“Oh shit, you don’t know,” Tommy smiled, happy to have found more shit to throw at Steve today. “Jonathan and the princess ran off after your little conversation. She got in his beat up old car in the parking lot and it looks like they’re ditching the rest of the day. But that must just be a coincidence, right?”
Tommy laughed as he turned the water off and walked away.
“Don’t take it too hard, man,” Billy spoke up, “a pretty boy like you has got nothing to worry about. Plenty of bitches in the sea.”

Steve continued to ignore him, not having the time or energy for his shit, when Billy reached over to turn off the shower, leaving Steve soap covered and angry. He patted Steve on the back before walking away, adding “I’ll make sure to leave you some. Not y/n though. I’ve got my eye on her.”
Steve glared at him before aggressively turning the water back on. He hadn’t known about Nancy and Jonathan running off together, and frankly right now he didn’t’ care. He had always gotten weird vibes from their relationship. Hell, if he was being honest, they were probably the same vibes that Nancy got from his relationship with you. He didn’t really have time to think about all of that though, instead fuming over Billy’s persistent obsession with you.
Billy had only been here for a few fucking days and he was already causing problems Steve didn’t need. He could put up with the snide comments and taunts, but the second he came for you again, Steve’s patience would be out the window.
What a hell of a senior year.
***
It was a Saturday afternoon. Normally you didn’t babysit on Saturdays because Mrs. Henderson was off work, but she had called you the night before, saying she needed you. It was kind of hard to tell what she was saying because she seemed very upset, her emotion leaking into her voice and making her extremely difficult to understand. Something about her…cat being missing? Either way, you were headed toward the Henderson household, frustrated that you’d lost one of your only free days of the week, but you needed the extra cash, so here you were.
Before you could even make it up the porch steps to knock so that Dustin could let you in, he was flying out the door, bumping into you and knocking you off balance in the process.
“Code red! I repeat this is a code red!” He yelled into his headset as he darted past you, heading to grab his bike from the front lawn. You rolled your eyes and pivoted.
“Dude, what the hell?” You were ready to yell at him, to lecture him to be more careful, but he was mounting his bike and pedaling down the street before you could even conjure up the words. “Where the fuck do you think you’re going? You can’t just leave!”
“Y/n, I’m sorry! It’s an emergency! My mom’s bike is in the garage and I’m headed to the Wheelers’, but I have to go, now! Please don’t kill me!” He yelled over his shoulder as he got farther and farther away from you.
“I don’t know how to…ride a bike,” you started off yelling before going back to a normal speaking volume as you sighed, realizing your shouting was futile. With no other options, you thanked the universe that you had worn your tennis shoes today, and took off sprinting towards the Wheelers’.
Simultaneously, Steve was headed to the same location. He’d stopped to pick up a bouquet of roses for Nancy on the way, feeling the need to sort things out with her before it was too late. He wasn’t ready to give up on them just yet and he hoped that the gift would work like a bit of a peace offering to reset the balance and make everything okay again.
He parked his BMW in front of her house, rehearsing what he would say when she answered the door as he got out of his car.
“Listen, I’ve been thinking, I love you, I’m sorry….I’m sorry? What the hell am I sorry for?” He muttered as he made his way towards the front door.
“Steve! Are those for Mr. or Mrs. Wheeler?” It was the Henderson kid. Steve didn’t have the time for this, looking at the boy in annoyance.
“No?” He replied, confused at the boy’s line of questioning.
“Good,” Dustin replied as he grabbed the flowers and made his way towards Steve’s parked car. A rose fell from the bouquet in the process and Steve leaned down to pick it up before following the child.
“Hey! What the hell?”
“Nancy isn’t home.”
“Where is she?”
“Doesn’t matter,” Dustin started, “we have bigger problems than your love life.” He opened the passenger door. “Do you still have that bat?”
“Bat? What bat?” Steve asked. Why the hell is this kid getting in my damn car?
“The one with the nails?” Dustin clarified, throwing his hands up in a way that irritated Steve. Of course that was the bat the kid was talking about. How could he possibly have not known that considering the fact that it had been sitting in the trunk of another vehicle for a full calendar year, untouched?
“Why?”
“I’ll explain it on the way,” Dustin replied as he sat down. Steve was a bit thrown off by how immediate this had to be, not really in the mood to chauffeur the Henderson boy around. He felt anxiety creep up in his chest as he thought back to the last time he had to use the bat in question.
“Now?” Steve clarified as he jogged towards his car.
“Now!” Dustin confirmed as he slammed the car door shut. Steve quickly slid into the driver’s seat, starting the car and putting it in gear. He was about ready to pull away when hands slammed against his window, causing him and Dustin to scream out, alarmed by the sudden noise.
There you were, huffing and puffing from your impromptu run through the neighborhood. The anger on your face was glaringly apparent, neither boy recalling a time that you’d looked that mad before. And Dustin especially had done enough to make you pretty damn mad. You yanked the car door open and collapsed in the backseat of the BMW.
“What the hell y/n? You scared the absolute shit out of me! I could’ve run you over or something! Where the hell’d you even come from? Why are you even here?” Steve turned around to yell at you. You glared up at him with fire in your eyes, continuing to pant as you aggressively pushed a strand of hair aside that had fallen out of your ponytail and into your face.
“Do you want to tell him or should I?” You growled as your gaze shifted to the Henderson boy, who was attempting to shrink into nothing in the front seat.
“I-I told you that you could take the bike?” He squeaked out, clearly afraid of your wrath. You were usually so calm all of the time, so the rage permeating through the car was borderline terrifying.
“I don’t know how to ride a goddamn bike!” You screamed as you squeezed your eyes shut. It was embarrassing, but you were too frustrated right now to focus on that.
“That….well, that was an oversight on my part,” Dustin replied.
“Wait, she’s fucking babysitting you and you took off on a bike and left her behind? What the fuck dude?” Steve interjected, angry on your behalf.
“Yeah, I could have walked you to the damn Wheelers’ house! Leaving me like that was way out of line, asshole.”
“It is an emergency!” Dustin attempted to defend himself, “I’m sorry I left you by yourself to walk—“
“Run.” You corrected.
“—to run after me. But I’m not going to apologize for leaving because some crazy ass shit is going on and I need help. Big time.”
Looking at the boy it was clear that something was very wrong. Normally he was pretty happy go lucky, but now he was pretty damn stoic. Your anger slowly faded as you thought to what the boy could possibly have meant by the code red earlier.
“It…it-it’s not…it’s not what I think it is, is it?” You whispered, unable to really get the words out.
“It’s probably exactly what you think it is,” Dustin pinched the bridge of his nose. Despite the fact that the boy had left you behind, you could understand his reasoning. This Upside Down shit was not something to be taken lightly, and you were glad you and Steve were here now to help him so he didn’t have to figure it out on his own.
Before either of you responded, Steve put the car in gear for a second time, pulling away from the Wheeler residence. You guys were already losing light and Steve’s house wasn’t super close, meaning that time was of the essence.
“So…it’s the demogorgon,” Steve finally spoke up, saying what you had been unable to earlier.
“Well, not exactly,” Dustin started, “on Halloween, I found this…thing in my trashcan, really small you know—non threatening and the like—and I did some research and thought it was a pollywog—“
“A polly-what?” Steve interjected.
“A pollywog. Kind of like a tadpole, but that’s not important. Anyway, I kept it and I named it D’Artagnan, Dart for short, because I thought I had discovered a new species. Turns out I wasn’t entirely wrong because it molted last night and it’s definitely a precursor to a full blown demogorgon.”
“Shit,” you whispered and your right hand instinctively went to grasp your upper left arm, shielding your wounds from your previous encounter with the beast.
“How big did you say this thing was again?” Steve asked, not entirely convinced that this was as large a threat as Dustin was making it out to be.
“It started out like this,” he held his hands close together, “and now it’s like this,” he added as he spaced them significantly farther apart. You shuddered; if Dustin wasn’t exaggerating, this thing was now closer to the size of a small dog. It had only been a few days since he found the thing, how long did you guys have until it was the hulking nine-foot monster that had attacked you last year?
“Dude, it’s probably just some little lizard, man,” Steve began trying to brush the boy off.
“It’s not a lizard!”
“How do you know it’s not just some lizard?” Steve shot back, annoyed at the fact that this could potentially be a false alarm. Throughout Dustin’s explanation Steve kept looking at you in the rearview mirror and he could tell you were starting to get worked up over the potential of another supernatural threat.
“How do I know it’s not some lizard? Because his face opened up and he ate my cat,” Dustin deadpanned, bothered by the fact that Steve wasn’t believing him. This answer seemed to be acceptable as Steve dropped the subject, nodding, not really sure what he could say.
“Wait, Mews is dead?” You asked, your heart dropping a bit. You loved that cat; she was such a good study buddy when you were killing time at the Henderson household. Dustin just nodded quietly from the front seat.
None of you really knew what to say, so you sat in silence as Steve drove the rest of the way to his house. You all needed time to process this; time that you didn’t have. As he pulled up, you paused to take in the sight of the Harrington household. It was huge, an elaborate display of wealth that almost made you sick to your stomach. He unlocked the trunk of another vehicle, most likely an extra one that was used on occasion, pulling out the bat that he had used to save your life last year.
“Alright. Let’s do this,” Steve sounded confident, not allowing his voice to waver in the slightest. You all went to pile back into the BMW, Dustin heading for the passenger seat again when Steve grabbed him by his collar, stopping the boy in his tracks. “Nice try, pipsqueak. You’re in back.”
You chuckled as Steve opened the door for you. You spent the ride back to Dustin’s focusing on what potential horror may lie ahead of you. At least it’s smaller this time, you kept telling yourself. If you could take on a monster several feet taller than you last year, you could kick the puppy sized equivalent easy, right?
Dustin took you around the back of his house to the cellar. Despite the fact that it was locked shut, you still approached it with caution, not entirely sure of what the monster inside of it was capable of. The three of you stared at the closed doors, not really sure what you were waiting for.
“I don’t hear shit,” Steve finally spoke up, referring to the silence coming from the cellar below. If there was one thing that you knew from your supernatural encounter last year, it was that this thing was far from quiet. Sometimes you would wake up in a cold sweat, the memory of the low growl, the chattering, the screeching, coming back to you in your most vulnerable state.
“He’s in there,” Dustin promised. Steve began to hit the metal doors with the bat, still not entirely convinced. When there was no response, Steve turned to the boy.
“Alright, listen kid, I swear if this is just some Halloween prank, you’re dead,” Steve looked him dead in the eye. He knew from Halloween night how much this still affected you and if he was being honest, the experience still took a toll on him as well, so if this punk kid thought he was going to prank the two of you by forcing you to relive the most terrifying experience of your lives, he had another thing coming.
“Woah, woah, woah, how about we calm the fuck down? I get paid to babysit this damn kid, and I’ll be damned if I let you touch a hair on his head,” you got between the two boys, glaring up at Steve. Even though he had changed, you didn’t trust that his hot headedness wouldn’t return in a momentary lapse of judgment. Steve thought you looked entirely too maternal, and it made his heart skip, but he put his hands up and rolled his eyes. You turned toward Dustin.
“That being said. If this is a prank, I’m going to be pissed the fuck off,” you shot the boy a warning glance before adding, “now, do you have a key for this thing?”
Dustin tossed you the keys, but Steve intercepted them before you could catch them. He unlocked the doors, pulling them open to reveal a very dark and uninviting looking cellar. It was the kind of darkness you would have been afraid of as a child, worrying that the shadows housed imaginary monsters. However, this time you weren’t a kid and those monsters were far from imaginary. You and Steve pointed your flashlights down there, illuminating the cellar floor to display the nothingness. It was almost more unnerving than if the monster had just been there…almost.
“He must be farther down there…I’ll stay up here in case he tries to escape,” Dustin was quick to add, being so kind as to volunteer to stay far from the potential danger. You and Steve stared at him in disbelief. The nerve of this kid.
“You’ve gotta be fucking kidding, dude. It’s your problem, and you’re gonna be an absolute wimp about it after we’ve spent our afternoons chauffeuring you around town?” Steve fumed, about done with Dustin’s shit.
“I’m still in middle school! You guys are at least a modicum closer to being adults than I am, so it only makes sense that—“
You cut him off, swiftly grabbing the nail bat from Steve’s grasp. “You both are a bunch of cowards,” you sighed as you started making your way down the stairs. Behind you, you could hear the sounds of arguing between the two of them, each one shaming the other that they had let you, a woman, go down there alone.
“What the hell man? You’re really gonna let her go down there by herself? Not cool”
“She wouldn’t have gone in the first place if you hadn’t immediately wimped out.”
“I’m in eighth grade! You’re a fucking senior! You go down there! Man up!”
Chivalry is dead, you thought as you pulled the string to turn on the overhead light.
Your heart stopped when you saw the slick pile of shedded skin sitting in the middle of the cellar. This thing was bigger now. You felt the anxiety creep up in your chest and you swallowed the lump in your throat as you readjusted your grip on the bat, struggling to grasp it as your hands trembled. That’s when you noticed the gaping hole in the side of the cellar. You cautiously approached it, realizing it was tunneled out farther than the light from your flashlight could reach. The thought of what was lurking in that hole made you shudder.
Meanwhile, the boys finished their futile argument, not realizing you had completely disappeared into the cellar, now out of view. Steve and Dustin, stared at each other, wide eyed and panicking, realizing how gravely they had messed up.
“Y/n?” Dustin yelled hesitantly down the steps.
Upon hearing no response, Steve’s heart rate picked up and he spoke up as well, “y/n, what’s going on down there?”
Suddenly, you popped around the corner without warning, causing the boys to jump. “Get down here,” your tone was serious and the boys swiftly made their way down the cellar stairs, finally joining you as they should have done in the first place. You picked up the molted skin of Dustin’s discovery, showing it to the boys.
“Oh shit,” Dustin whispered, but when you pointed out the gaping hole in the cellar, he repeated it more emphatically, “Oh shit!”
“Yeah, ‘oh shit’ is right. We need to find it,” you turned to look at the boys. You wouldn’t let it roam Hawkins again. You wouldn’t let another Will get taken or another Barb get killed.
“It’s too dark out to do anything about it tonight,” Steve reminded you. There was no safe way for you to catch this thing. You had no game plan, no supplies, nothing.
“Steve,” you begged, looking up at him through your lashes. Even though you knew he was right, it made you nauseous to think about leaving this for tomorrow. You didn’t know how you would sleep tonight knowing that that monster was unaccounted for.
“Y/n, I’m sorry, but we just can’t. You know that. Think about how awful it was last time and we knew where the damn thing was and had a whole ass warning system for when it showed up. We can’t just walk out into the woods in total darkness expecting to find it and come out unscathed. We just can’t,” Steve replied, looking at you with sympathy. He didn’t want to leave this for tomorrow either, but you were just going to have to settle for that. There wasn’t another option.
You took a deep breath and nodded. Dustin turned to head back up out of the cellar, exiting the main room, out of sight as he bounded up the stairs happy to be out of there. When you turned to follow, you felt a gentle hand on the small of your back. You turned to face Steve and he moved his hand to your upper arm, placing his other hand at the nape of your neck. You looked him in the eye and swallowed the lump in your throat. This was the most sincere you had ever seen him.
“Hey, everything is gonna be okay. I’m gonna make sure of it, I promise,” Steve said quietly. You breathed in deeply and nodded, trying to trust him even though all of this was wildly out of your control. He let go of you reaching his hand between you, pinky extended, just like it had been in the library.
You felt a pang in your chest. That was how your lives should be; just two dumb high school students studying, thinking about what colleges you were going to go to, making stupid promises about parties that were more fun in theory than they were in actuality. Not whatever this was. But nonetheless you took his pinky in yours and you hoped with all your might that he’d be able to keep his promise; that everything would be okay.
“Hello? Are you guys coming? Did the demogorgon come back and eat the two of you alive?” Dustin’s voice rang out, sounding annoyed as it echoed in the open cellar.
“Not funny!” You shouted back, the moment between you and Steve fizzling out, as you dropped each other’s pinkies, making your way out of the cellar. You shut the heavy metal doors, triple checking that they were locked before standing to draw up a game plan with the boys.
“Alright, how about I pick you both up around 10:00 tomorrow morning?” Steve asked, looking between you and Dustin.
“That works. Dustin, your mom’s home, right? Her car was in the driveway, yeah?” You asked, making sure that Dustin wasn’t alone.
“Yep, everything should be fine here. Well, other than the whole Dart-ate-my-cat thing but yeah, I’m good. Your babysitting services are no longer needed for the evening.”
You walked him to the front door and thanked Mrs. Henderson as she paid you for watching him on a weekend. You could tell the poor woman was still distraught about her cat, and you couldn’t help but feel a pang in your chest. You and Steve made your way back over to his car and he opened the passenger door for you once again. He started driving towards your subdivision when you spoke up.”
“Steve, stop.”
He was getting flashbacks to Halloween, when the discussion of Barb had been too much for you to handle. “Woah, y/n is everything okay?” He asked, placing a gentle hand on your shoulder.
“I just…I-I don’t want to be alone,” you stammered, “my parents work nights and I just have a bad feeling about all of this, and I’m not quite ready to be by myself. Can you just give me a minute to calm down a little?”
You looked up at Steve innocently, your facial features twisted with worry. It was a look that could break him. He remembered his promise to you; that everything would be okay. He decided that this is where that promise started. He didn’t say anything as he turned down a side street with a cul-de-sac, making his way back to the top of the street before turning in the opposite direction of your house.
“Steve, what are you doing?”
“You can stay at mine tonight. My parents aren’t home this weekend anyway so it’ll be fine,” he assured you.
“Are you sure? I really don’t want to intrude,” you asked quietly, hoping that he didn’t change his mind.
“‘Don’t want to intrude’ my ass. The first time you came to my house you practically almost knocked down my door!” Steve laughed.
“Hey! It was an emergency! What was I supposed to do? Clearly I had exhausted all other resources by that point. The Henderson kid is a problem, you can blame him,” you defended yourself, giggling as you recalled the first time you sought Steve out.
“Nah, I’ll just thank him instead. It turned out to be a really good thing for me, you know?” He smiled at you. He was right; Dustin being a hellish child to babysit ended up turning out pretty damn good…aside from all of the paranormal, supernatural bullshit you were both knee deep in.
But that didn’t matter right now, as Steve turned on the radio, the two of you singing out of key to the latest hits as he drove off towards his house.
***
Sure, it was dark out, but it wasn’t too late yet, so Steve took you out back by the pool. You couldn’t imagine living in a place like this. In theory it would be awesome, but then you thought about how often his parents were gone, not to mention how hard they were on him, and you decided that you were better off in your small but loving home.
“So, yeah, this is the pool. I would say we could go for a swim, but it’s a little too cold for that,” Steve chuckled.
“Not too cold to sit out here, though,” you smiled as you took a seat on one of the lounge chairs.
“Be careful, you might get a sunburn,” Steve joked as he took a seat in the chair next to you. He thought about how the two of you had gotten to this point. Before you had knocked on his door that fateful day last fall, he had noticed you around school, but mostly just enough to know that you were a bit of a loner and you made good grades. Hell, he had almost reached out to you once or twice when his parents were on his ass about his poor performance in his classes, but he had always scoffed and rolled his eyes. Because how could he, King Steve, ever reach out to you?
He wished he had. He wondered how different things would have been. If he would have fallen in love with Nancy or if he would’ve been spared the heartache. He’d never know but he couldn’t help but contemplate how different your relationship would have been if you hadn’t been brought together by trauma. Maybe she wouldn’t have even wanted to speak to me, he reasoned.
“You know, if you told me a year ago that I would be hanging out one on one with Steve Harrington at his house, I would’ve called you crazy,” you had gotten up, moving to sit by the side of the pool, kicking your legs back and forth in the cold water.
“I was just thinking about that actually,” Steve admitted, “do you ever wonder how different it would be if we met before all this shit happened?”
“I mean, to be honest, not really. I think we both had some growing to do before we were ever going to get along. Last year kind of forced us to grow up a little faster than we really needed to. Maybe that’s a bad thing, but right now it seems pretty good to me,” you looked at him with sincerity. You meant every word of it.
“What do you mean both of us? I was the one that was an ass, you were perfect all on your own beforehand.”
You flushed with the praise, “no, seriously, I had some growing up to do too. Back then I thought I had you all figured out. I was confident that you were just some asshole jock, and I wouldn’t have guessed you had the capacity to change. I kind of stuck to myself, and I didn’t have a lot of friends, so I guess in a way, I was a bit jealous of you. People just gravitate towards you; I blend in so much I might as well not even be there.”
“Well, if it makes you feel any better, Billy sure is noticing you,” Steve muttered, and you couldn’t contain your laughter. You wish he’d stop being so focused on that, but you knew how protective he tended to be, so it made sense that it would still be on his mind after how Billy had treated you on Halloween.
“Yeah, that definitely doesn’t make me feel better; actually quite the contrary,” you chuckled, “you know, on paper you both should get along.”
“That’s so not true.”
“Think about it! You’re both athletic, flirt too much for your own good, have pretty good hair, popular beyond my wildest imagination, and you guys are both chick magnets. Forgive me for seeing some similarities,” you smirked. You knew it would set him off, which is exactly why you said it. If you were being completely honest, his frustration was a bit amusing at times.
“Yeah, but he’s like a complete asshole! I would never have just grabbed you like he did at that party. That was not fucking cool. Like yeah, of course he’d want to talk to you, look at you, but couldn’t he have just introduced himself and struck up a damn conversation instead of immediately getting handsy and shit? Like fuck!”
“What do you mean of course he’d want to talk to me?” You asked, baffled. You hadn’t really dated at all because no one was really interested in the weird alt girl who, despite all stereotypes, was killing herself to make good grades.
“I hate to break it to you, but you’re pretty. And you’re not like every other bitch. You’re different and you stand out because of it. In a good way. Now stop being self deprecating and get inside, we’re going to have to wake up at the ass crack of dawn so we can pick up your damn kid,” he offered you a hand to help you up from the ground, which you gladly took, trying and failing not to flush at the compliment.
He led you upstairs after giving you a tour of the main level. “Here is the guest room, you can sleep in here tonight. Wait here a second,” he added as he darted across the hall, disappearing into what you assumed to be his room. You took in the sight of the guest bedroom. It was perfectly set up, and though it was pristine and tastefully decorated, something about it felt cold and lonely; impersonal.
Before you could think about it too much, Steve returned with a stack of clothes in his hands. “You can wear these. I-I assumed you didn’t want to sleep in jeans. It’s just, um, it’s just a pair of my sweatpants and a t-shirt, but I can take them back if you’d rather just you know, keep those on,” he said as he gestured to you and your outfit. You chuckled as you took the stack of clothes from him.
“Thanks, Steve. I really appreciate it,” you smiled up at him through your lashes.
She’s gonna be the death of me, Steve thought, as he felt his cheeks heat up from your gratitude. “Yeah, yeah, yeah, no problem. Um, well…I’m right across the hall if you need anything. Sleep well, y/n,” he smiled at you.
“Sleep well, Harrington,” you replied, entering the guest bedroom. Once Steve was no longer with you, you felt all of your fear and anxiety invade your consciousness again. You swiftly changed and looked at yourself in the full length mirror hung on the wall. I could get used to this, you thought, feeling butterflies in your stomach from the fact that you were in Steve’s clothes. It all felt too domestic. You were beginning to blur the line between friends and something more, and the thought made you a little nauseous. You weren’t sure you were ready for that.
But as you laid in the big bed in the very empty and lonely guest room, fear crept up in your chest, and you decided that none of that mattered as you quietly crossed the hall, knocking softly on Steve’s door. He answered almost immediately, a concerned look across his face.
“Is something wrong?” He quickly asked, his hands hovering around your frame as he scanned you up and down to make sure nothing was amiss.
“I-I just…I still think I’m not quite ready to be by myself,” your voice was small and you looked down at the floor, embarrassed. You felt weak and wished that you were strong enough to face this without needing someone to lean on. But that’s what friends were for.
“Of course! Yeah, um I can sleep on the floor and you can take my bed, I have an extra pillow in the—“
You cut him off, “Steve! You are not going to sleep on the floor.”
“Uh, yeah I am?”
“Over my dead body,” you shot back, “I’ll sleep on the floor.”
“You’re a guest!”
“Yeah, a guest that’s being difficult!”
“Y/n,” he warned.
“The way I see it we’re either both sleeping on the floor or we’re both sleeping in the bed, so take your pick Harrington,” you replied, pinching the bridge of your nose. Nothing could be easy with this boy.
“I sleep on the left side,” he sighed as he flopped onto the bed. You flopped down next to him, and you both turned to face away from each other. You felt your heart rate slow as the fear dissipated from your body, your shoulders finally being able to relax. Steve made you feel safe, and you wouldn’t trade that for anything else.
If only you knew that Steve felt the same way about you, and that you were the only one keeping his panic at bay. There was so much uncertainty in his life right now; Nancy, college, demogorgon-upside-down bullshit. Everything felt like it was going to shit, but you were the one thing that was going right.
You were the only constant he had right now.
As the two of you drifted off to sleep, it was the first time in a long time that either of you felt truly at peace. As the night went on, the distance between you began to disappear, as you slowly shifted towards each other, your legs tangled together under Steve’s soft sheets. Tomorrow would likely bring more pain, uncertainty, and problems, but right now that didn’t matter. All that mattered was the two of you, in Steve’s bedroom, sleeping so soundly that for a moment things seemed right with the world.

Billy looked away from the TV when the front door slammed, and you stormed right past him.
His brow furrowed. You didn’t get pissed often, but when you did, it was usually because of someone else’s ignorance.
It was a miracle you put up with Billy for all these years. You had told him trying went a long way with you. And he’d be damned if he stopped.
You’d already rid yourself of your jeans when he reached your bedroom.
“What happened?” Billy asked, leaning against the doorway.
You had your shirt halfway off when it got too tight, and you had to shimmy it the rest of the way. And with a frustrated huff, you whipped it onto the floor.
“Ran into Tommy 'Dickhead' Hagan.” You opened the drawer Billy was using and grabbed one of his shirts. “Haven’t been in Hawkins two fucking minutes, and I see the guy I wanna deck the most.”
You hadn’t noticed Billy walking toward you until he grabbed both of your hands, putting one on the back of his neck and the other on his belt loop. You automatically started playing with his curls and rubbing the denim between your fingers.
“What happened?” he asked again, much gentler, eyes patient.
You inhaled deeply, trying to keep yourself from losing it.
“Said he was surprised you and I were ‘still a thing.’ That he ‘figured you’d drop my ass after you got some ass.’” You really wished you were the type of person that would bitchslap an asshole.
To his credit, Billy didn’t react besides squeezing your shoulders. He was waiting for you to finish.
“And what did you say?”
You bit your lip, your words finally coming to you after your mind had gone fuzzy at Tommy’s comment.
“Told him a twenty-six-year-old should grow up and stop inviting high schoolers to keggers. And to stop having keggers,” you said.
Billy threw his head back with laughter, and you joined him, stepping forward so you could lean your forehead on his chest.
“You should’ve seen the look on his face when I said, ‘Hope you have the day you deserve.’” Your giggling only increased when Billy wrapped his arms around you and lifted you to the bed.
“Was he smart enough to get what you were saying?” Billy leaned over you, one arm supporting him over your head.
“Must be, ‘cause I thought I saw steam coming out his ears as I left,” you said, cupping his neck and running your thumb along his jaw.
He nudged your nose with his. “Good. Jackass deserved it.” He pulled back slightly so he could look you in the eyes. “M’proud of you. Standing up for yourself. Know it’s hard sometimes.”
You gave him a small smile. “Was standing up for you, too. You don’t deserve to be spoken about like that. Not after all the work you’ve done. All the ways you’ve grown.”
Your hand moved to caress his cheek, and he kissed your palm.
“Couldn’t have done it without you,” he mumbled, leaning into your touch.
“Couldn’t have stood up to Tommy without you,” you said.
Billy smiled. “Guess we’re pretty good for each other.”
“We’re great for each other.”
He hummed and situated himself so he laid on top of you, face buried in the crook of your neck.
“Remember, we’re meeting everyone at Steve’s in two hours,” you said, drawing patterns on his back.
His grin pressed into your throat. “What are we gonna do with two hours?”
You rolled your eyes, a fond smile growing. “Less than two hours.”
He pulled back to look at you. “We’re the guests of honor. Just tell them we got in later than expected.”
You raised a brow at him. “After what happened at the store? I’m sure the whole town knows we’re here by now.”
He huffed, pushing his face back where it was, and mumbled, “Fucking Hawkins.”
You giggled and kissed his forehead, feeling him smile even though he wanted to pout.
“How about a half hour of this, then we get ready?” you asked.
He hummed. “We’ll see. Might take a nap.”
“A half-hour nap.”
He placed a finger on your lips. “Shh, I’m napping.”
You bit his finger lightly, and he scraped his teeth along your neck.
Your breath hitched, and he chuckled.
“Maybe I can do something else in that half hour,” he mused, kissing your jaw.
You let out a content sigh as he continued his path until he reached your lips.
Part of him hoped you would both run into Tommy again after this weekend. Billy would gladly show him how together you were once that ring was on your finger.

I’ve seen my fair share of…interesting BOSAS takes (Tigris and Snow’s relationship doesn’t make sense, Sejanus wasn’t important to Coriolanus/Coriolanus’ character, Dean Highbottom was inconsistent, people just called Lucy Gray Lucy instead of LG or something, etc) but never has one irked me as much as people saying the ending was rushed or out of character or didn’t make sense.
The ending is a representation of their whole relationship. Yeah, it’s rushed, because it lasted 3 months and they were prepared to spend their life together after that. No, it was completely in character. Yes, it made total sense, because what else would have convinced Coriolanus to go back, if not the idea that he was safe?
First off, elaborating on the rushed point, be so fr. 1, the book was getting a bit long anyways, and 2, it couldn’t have been long and drawn out. How quick their relationship crumbled and we were shown Coriolanus’ true loyalties shows so much I can’t even begin to explain it, but I’ll try.
It shows how Lucy Gray valued family and trust. She’d already talked about how much trust mattered to her, and she’d been hurt so badly before she needed it. She needs trust, and she doesn’t just need it for herself. She needs to be able to trust him, and she needs him to be able to trust her. When Coriolanus obviously lied about the third person he killed, Lucy Gray realized that neither of those things were there.
It shows how Coriolanus valued himself and the capitol above all else. He was going to, and tried to, kill Lucy Gray. The person who, just 10 minutes ago he was prepared to spend the rest of his life with. He did that because he couldn’t be guaranteed loyalty, and because he realized she definitely didn’t belong to him. Coriolanus’ view of Lucy Gray- that she’s a pet, or something just for him, is entirely effed up and he can’t see that, so he clings to it. He clings to that idea of her being his and when it’s proven false, he can’t let go of it.
Lucy Gray was there when Coriolanus lied to her about the killing, and there was only one person he could have also killed. She was wary of him then, what he was capable of, but she didn’t know for sure where his loyalty truly laid until she saw the look on his face with the guns. She knew then that the Coriolanus standing before her she couldn’t trust, and she knew what that meant, and Coriolanus knew she knew what that meant and he couldn’t deal with the fact she wasn’t completely infatuated with him.
It’s also worthy to mention how easily Coriolanus started to see Lucy Gray differently. He justified his killing of her to himself, as we see in the whole “she’s a victor, maybe Billy taupe was right, etc” page. He thinks that it may have been an act all along, and can’t deal with the fact he fell in love with someone who could turn on him so easily. So he justifies it and makes stuff up and uses all he can to convince himself of the devilish nature of Lucy Gray.
Coriolanus’ deep, unwavering faith in the capitol is shown here so clearly I feel like it’s bleeding into my eyes. He was so ready to leave her (also how he thought she’d be ok with it also proves how he sees her as completely loyal) when he realized he was basically innocent. He is only ever scared of the capitol when it could harm him.
Their whole relationship was a whirlwind, and could never have had a breakup 3 chapters long. It needed to be quick and easy, all ties cut. The fate of Lucy Gray also needed to be a mystery, because nothing else in his life is. The constant worrying of if she’d ever tell, if she’s alive or not, blah blah blah unsettles him just like he deserves it to. We don’t get an answer to if Lucy Gray came back (probably not though), we don’t even get an answer if she’s alive.
In conclusion, the end of BOSAS was very fitting, and though unpredictable and fast, it was right.

Don't Blame Me (1/3) [Billy Hargrove/Reader; eventual Eddie Munson/Reader; Billy Hargrove/Reader/Eddie Munson]
Tumblr media
Summary: One boyfriend clawing his way free from the clutches of the Upside Down once it decided to unleash its own brand of hell on Hawkins was a miracle you weren't sure you entirely deserved. When another previously dead boyfriend shows up on your doorstep and throws your whole world into chaos, you start to wonder if it's a blessing or a curse. You're terrified you'll have to choose between your first love and the guy who saved you from yourself, but will that turn out to be the least of your worries? As word begins to spread around town of a masked killer draining Hawkins residents of their blood, you realize you're a lot closer to danger than you've ever been before, but maybe, just this once, it's not such a bad thing after all. Word Count: 6.3k Author's Notes: Somehow, this was born out of an obsession with Don't Blame Me by Taylor Swift and a need to write a darker fic. I wrote the ghostface fic last year for Halloween along with a demon!Billy and vampire!Eddie fic…and somehow they're all meshing together to create one big fucked up Halloween fic this year. I don't even know what the fuck I'm doing at this point, but uhhhhh enjoy my insanity??
Read on AO3
"Don't blame me," were the first words Billy Hargrove ever said to you. It was quickly followed by: "It's the freak's fault."
"Oh, forgive me for walking," Eddie Munson said in a mocking tone, holding his hands up in surrender. "Blame Mr. Mullethead over here for being too cool to look where he's going," Eddie sneered at Billy.
At that point in time, you didn't really care whose fault it was. You were only concerned about the fact that your shirt was now covered in soda and you were either going to have to go home or suffer through the rest of the day with a soaked shirt. "Shit," you sighed, realizing you were just going to have to go home. You would have to make up a test, but you were starting not to care. After a day that had started off with a stubbed toe, a burned finger, and now a sticky shirt, you would rather just suffer through the rest of the day from the comfort of your own bedroom. "Whatever," you dismissed. "Just another reason I should get the fuck out of here."
You turned, not bothering to spare a second look for the other two, before making a break for the cafeteria doors.
"Shit," you heard someone mutter before footsteps took off in your direction. You refused to look back to see which of the two dickheads who had spilled soda all over you was behind you, prompting the guy to huff in irritation. "Just, damn it, would you hold on a second? Where the hell are you going?"
"Home," you snapped, allowing yourself a brief moment to glance over your shoulder to confirm that Billy Hargrove was in fact following you.
"You don't even have a car," Billy pointed out, surprising you. Today was the first day you exchanged anything resembling a conversation with Billy and you had just been living with the assumption that he had no idea you existed. "What are you gonna do? Walk home?"
"Maybe," you answered, quickening your pace in an attempt to get rid of Billy. You were cold and pissed off and you wanted nothing more than to just pull on a pair of pajamas and crawl into bed. "Why are you still following me?" You asked when you realized he hadn't taken the hint that you wanted him to get lost.
"Look, will you stop being so damn stubborn and just talk to me for a second?"
You reluctantly turned to face Billy, abruptly stopping him in his tracks. "Okay. What do you want?"
"I'm not exactly taking the blame or anything here," Billy started, hastily reaching out to grab your backpack and sling it over his shoulder, "but the least I can do is give you a ride home."
You studied him for a moment, half-sure he was only offering because he wanted an excuse to cut class. You also got the feeling that he was going to hold your backpack hostage until you agreed. It didn't take long for you to realize you didn't care about Billy’s motives as long as his offer worked out for the both of you. If you didn't have to walk home, then all the better. "Fine," you finally conceded with a shrug of your shoulders. You stepped to the side, gesturing for Billy to walk by you. "Lead the way, then."
He watched you for a moment as if he thought you might turn and run the second he had his back to you. Finally, after a few more seconds of deliberation, Billy turned and started walking. You followed him, not entirely sure if you were making the right decision. You also couldn't stop your gaze from drifting, taking in the so-called 'fantastic ass' most of the girls had been going on about since Billy Hargrove showed up at the beginning of the year. You were forced to look away when Billy stopped at the doors leading out to the parking lot. He pushed open one of them, beckoning for you to pass him.
"Such a gentleman," you told him as you walked outside, catching the faint smirk on his face.
"Yeah, well, it had to happen sometime," he drawled as he followed you. "It's that one over there," he told you, directing you towards his Camaro with a hand on the small of your back.
"I know," you pointed out with an amused smile in his direction. "You're not as subtle as you think."
"Well, she's the best thing to ever happen to me," Billy admitted with a shrug of his shoulders. "Why not show her off a little? She deserves it."
"She does," you agreed, smiling at the way Billy tried and failed not to light up at your praise. "She is really beautiful."
"Damn right she is," Billy purred, satisfaction bleeding through into his tone. When you looked up at him, you expected to see him gazing at his beloved car in adoration, but instead, he was watching you. You felt your cheeks flush, trying to hide the fact that you were feeling flustered from his attention. Billy was a notorious flirt and you didn't want to be like every other girl who had fallen prey to his charm.
"Ready to go?" You asked, lamely trying to shift the focus of the conversation. "I'm freezing."
"Shit, yeah, we should get you out of those wet clothes," Billy said, moving to open the passenger side door of his car for you. You didn't miss the hint of suggestion in his voice, but if you were going to survive even just five minutes alone in a car with Billy Hargrove, then you were just going to have to ignore it.
Once Billy pulled out of the school parking lot, you started offering him directions towards your house.
"So," you started, once Billy hit the long stretch of road that would lead to your house. "Graduation is coming up in a couple months."
"Yeah? What about it?" Billy's tone didn't waver, but from the way he started tapping his fingers on the steering wheel, you got the feeling that talking about graduation made him nervous.
"Nothing," you said, shrugging your shoulders. "Just wondering what you've got planned after it's all over."
Billy snorted, the sound half amused and half derisive. "I'm just trying to get to graduation. Haven't thought much about what comes after."
"Well," you started, not even sure where you were going with your sentence. You frowned thoughtfully out the window, trying to think of something to say, but accidentally letting silence fall over the car.
"Well?" Billy prompted with a glance at you. "There anything after that or you forget how to talk?"
You rolled your eyes, a reluctant grin pulling at your lips. "Maybe," you answered, refusing to admit that you were so nervous you didn't know how to talk to him. Billy was cool and suave and had all the girls at school in a chokehold. When you woke up that morning, you didn't expect to say two words to him, much less find yourself in his car and expected to keep up a conversation.
"Why do you walk to school every day?" Billy broke the silence, finally taking pity on you.
"I'm a senior in high school," you pointed out with a shrug of your shoulders. "I can't afford a car and I’m sure as hell not asking my mom to help me get one. And I’ll just feel really pathetic if I'm seen riding the bus, so I might as well take my only other option."
“What about your dad? He some kind of deadbeat or something? Can’t help his kid get a car?”
You snorted, not able to help the noise of contempt you made. “You could say that,” you answered. “He split a few years back and we haven’t heard from him since.”
“Sounds like a real piece of shit,” Billy observed with a frown.
“Yeah,” you sighed. “So, no car and no bus means I’ve got to walk. At least it’s just for a few more months. Once I graduate, I can get a job and figure all that shit out.”
"Well," Billy started, squinting his eyes at the road ahead, lost in thought.
"Well?" You mocked, drawing a surprised laugh from Billy.
"I could just drive you to school," he offered, shooting you a brief, searching look. "Wouldn't even make you chip in for gas money or anything."
"Why?" You couldn't help but wonder. Billy didn't seem like the kind of guy to dole out charity rides in his beloved car. "What's in it for you?"
"Just seems a shame, is all," he told you. "Someone like you freezing her ass off every day. Besides, it'll give us a chance to get to know each other a little better."
You let out an incredulous laugh, not sure how your life had gotten so spun around in just the matter of a few hours. "And you want to get to know me better?"
"I do," Billy responded with a nod of his head. "So, what do you think?" He asked as he pulled to a stop in front of your house. "You in?"
You knew immediately the answer you wanted to give, but you stopped yourself before you could say anything. It was crazy, right? You weren't supposed to accept rides from strangers, but Billy didn't feel strange to you. You didn't know him all that well, sure, but like he pointed out, you could always get to know him a bit better. There probably wasn't any harm in that. "Sure," you finally agreed, flashing him a grin. "I'm in."
There was a part of you that thought maybe Billy was just kidding around when he offered to drive you to school. Maybe it was his idea of a joke or a way to get under your skin, but he managed to surprise you when you stepped outside the next morning, and he was there waiting in your driveway. "Shit," you muttered as you turned to lock your front door. "What the hell have I gotten myself into?"
You settled into a surprisingly easy pattern with Billy over the next few weeks. He picked you up, told you to ignore his stepsister in the backseat, and cranked up his music so loud that you could barely think. Half the time, you were able to actually hold some semblance of a conversation with either Billy or Max, but never both at the same time. It wasn't hard to figure out that they didn't exactly get along, but you weren't sure how to fix it. You probably shouldn't feel the need to fix it in the first place, but that was just who you were. You couldn't fix your own problems half the time, so why not try to fix everyone else's?
You forced yourself to keep your mouth shut, though. Billy rarely allowed you to see a different side to him than his usual cool demeanor, but when it was just the two of you in his car, he started to unwind just the tiniest bit. It started off slowly from singing along to the radio under his breath or nodding his head along to the music to letting slip bits and pieces of his life pre-Hawkins and talking about his plans for the future. They were all moments that you filed away to examine later, because you knew that if Billy knew just how much it meant to you that he was starting to let you in, then he would shut you out.
It didn't take long for you to realize Billy Hargrove was a broken person. He did his best to hide who he really was from everyone at school, but you were no stranger to suffering in silence. There was pain in his eyes every time he looked at you and you wanted nothing more than to heal him.
You thought that more than anything, maybe he just needed a friend. He needed someone to genuinely care about him, because he didn't seem to have anyone. His mom wasn't in the picture and from the way Billy spoke about him, it sounded like his father was a complete jackass. Max didn't seem fond of Billy and you were sure his stepmom felt the same way. He had fans, not friends, at school and enemies he made with every biting, sarcastic comment.
So, yeah, you could be his friend. It wasn't all that much of a hardship, because once Billy started to allow his walls to come down around you, you came to the startling conclusion that you genuinely liked him.
By the time spring break rolled around, you realized you were going to miss seeing Billy every day at school. You shouldn't have worried, though, because that Monday afternoon you were roused from your bed by the sound of someone honking a car horn from your driveway. "Fuck," you groaned, knowing there was only one person who was capable of annoying you out of bed during spring break.
You rushed to pull on the pair of jeans you had left on your floor the day before and tried to make sure you didn't look like a complete mess as you passed your vanity mirror. By the time you made it outside, Billy had started keeping up a steady rhythm with the car horn, only stopping once he noticed you.
"What the hell are you doing?" You asked once you were in his passenger seat. “You’re lucky my mom is at work or she would’ve called the cops on you.”
"Just thought we could do something," he offered with a shrug of his shoulders. "Beats you moping around your house all day because you miss my face."
“You caught me,” you drawled, putting a hand to your chest. “The pictures all over my room weren’t enough. I just had to get a glimpse of the real thing.”
“I knew it!” Billy crowed with a delighted laugh. “What do you say, then? Wanna get out of here?”
"Okay," you agreed with a nod of your head. "So, what'd you have in mind?"
You ended up going for a burger and fries that day and to the movies on Wednesday. You dragged Billy to the arcade on Thursday and let him take you to the quarry on Saturday. He seemed to content to simply throw rocks into the water and smoke through half a pack of cigarettes, all the while letting you ramble on about everything you needed to do before you graduated.
Billy took a drag before he shook his head. "You worry too much," he sighed, shooting you an annoyed look. "You're gonna graduate and go off to school and land some job making a bunch of money. You'll get out of here and forget about all this bullshit," he told you, waving his cigarette in the air as he gestured towards the town.
There was a hint of melancholy in his tone that told you that what Billy was really worried about was that you would forget him. "Fuck that," you found yourself saying, moving until you could stand at his side. "We are going to graduate and get summer jobs. Then we'll get an apartment, because who would be better roommates than us, right? And then we'll figure it out from there. But I'm not gonna just forget about you. You're stuck with me," you told him, delighting in the rare, pleased smile that tugged at his lips.
"Sounds like a plan," he agreed, briefly bumping his shoulder against yours before taking another drag from his cigarette. "A fucking stupid plan on your part, but it works for me."
"Good," you told him. "Now, let's go get something to eat. I'm starving."
After spring break, your routine with Billy changed. Instead of dropping you off at your house first, he chose to get Max home before driving out to a local burger joint. You paid just as often as Billy did, letting him know you were just as invested in your friendship as he was and you weren’t looking to take advantage of him. Billy seemed to think it was stupid, but you didn’t care.
By the time summer was on the horizon, Billy had firmly cemented himself into your life as your best friend. There was no doubt in your mind that the bond you shared with him was special, and in a roundabout way, you had Eddie Munson and his clumsiness to thank for that.
You depended on Billy to get you through the day and you looked forward to whatever scathing comments he had to make about his day or fellow classmates and teachers. You couldn't wait to hear him sing along to Billy Idol or Bon Jovi, growing bolder each day and letting himself unwind around you. You loved the sound of his laugh and the way his eyes lit up when he got you to sing along to the radio with him. You found yourself talking more about your future together and which apartments around town you might be able to afford as senior year came to an end.
You didn't even realize how much your feelings for Billy had evolved until you were leaving school one day in late May.
You walked outside, shielding your eyes against the sun, before scanning the parking lot. When you saw him, it felt like someone punched you in the gut. Billy was leaning up against his car, waiting for you to find him. It was usual and routine, but the second your eyes met his across the parking lot, a terrifying feeling poured through you. You felt like someone had just tipped your world to the side. Your breath left you all in one rush as you scrambled to pin down what was so different about this time. It took you entirely too long to realize what had stopped you in your tracks.
Want.
You wanted Billy. It felt all-consuming, causing your mind to spin in a dozen different directions.
You wanted Billy to take your hand and press a kiss to your lips. You wanted to sneak him through your bedroom window so he could hold you close all night long. You wanted more than dinners and movies and shared laughter. You wanted a next step and a next, until both of your lives were so inextricably joined that there was no question that wherever one of you went, the other would follow.
You knew you probably looked like you were having a meltdown when his expression morphed from one of expectation to one of concern. You forced yourself to take a deep, albeit shaky, breath and put one foot in front of the other until you were standing in front of him.
"Hey," you made yourself say. "Ready to go?"
Billy squinted at you before looking you up and down. "You doing alright? You looked like you weren't sure if you wanted to come over here. Did something happen?"
"What? No!" You scoffed, turning away from him so he wouldn’t see you trying to school your expression into something that didn’t make you look like a lovestruck idiot. "Of course I wanted to come over here. With you," you added, wincing at your own ineptitude.
"Okay," Billy finally allowed, drawing out the word. "Get in," he said, gesturing for you to climb into the passenger seat.
Once you were aware of your feelings for Billy, it seemed to be all you could think about. It wasn't even when you were around him, either. Lying in bed at night, you wished he was there with you. Every little mundane act of your life felt like it would be made completely better if Billy was just there with you and you weren't sure how long you could go on hiding what you wanted from him.
"So," Billy started on the last Friday of your senior year. "Want to go out for dinner tomorrow? Celebrate our impending freedom?"
"Sounds good," you agreed, staring out the passenger side window. Every time Billy asked you to hang out, you felt a little thrill shoot through you. What did it mean? Was it just as friends or was he also just trying to find ways to spend more time with you? You tried not to get your hopes up, because you didn’t want to ruin your friendship with Billy, but you couldn’t stop yourself from contemplating all the possibilities. "Burgers?" You suggested with a quick look at him.
"Nah," Billy answered, pulling to a stop in front of your house. "I've got something else in mind. Be ready by seven," he ordered.
You weren't sure what you were expecting, but Billy bringing you to one of the best Italian places within a twenty-mile radius of Hawkins wasn't it.
"What are we doing here?" You couldn't help but ask, hoping he wouldn't find offense in the question. By ‘something else,’ you had assumed Billy maybe meant going out for pizza, but the restaurant you were staring up at looked so far out of your usual price range that you weren’t even sure how either of you could afford it.
"Just thought we could try something new," Billy answered with a shrug of his shoulders.
When you looked at him, you noticed that he was wearing a pair of jeans without any holes or rips in the knees. His shirt was buttoned up and his bomber jacket was nowhere in sight. You weren't sure why Billy dressing up made you feel nervous, but you were suddenly aware of how clammy your hands felt.
"Wait there a second," Billy told you before he got out of his car. He rounded the hood before pulling the passenger door open, gesturing for you to get out.
Billy led you inside the restaurant, informing the maître d’ that he had a reservation for Hargrove. A waiter led you back to a table and Billy pulled a chair out for you, gesturing for you to sit down. You could feel your cheeks flush and you weren't sure if you looked as unsure as you felt, but once it was just the two of you at the table, you started to feel like everything would be okay. You were back on sure footing, because this was just a regular dinner with Billy, right? He was only going all out because he wanted to celebrate the fact that you were both about to finish high school.
It wasn't until Billy slid a menu over towards you that it all finally started to click into place for you.
"Order whatever you want, okay? I'm buying." There was a waver to his voice that had you flicking your gaze up from the menu to look at him.
You studied Billy for a moment, trying to figure out why the hell he sounded so nervous, when you got it.
"Is this a date?" You blurted with a startled look at Billy.
Billy rolled his eyes before shaking his head in fake dismay. "I thought you were the smart one, y'know? It took you long enough to figure it out. Thought you would've got it when I took you here instead of Burger Barn for the fiftieth time."
You weren't sure how to react for a moment, trying and failing to process the fact that you were on a date with your best friend, before the rest of his words sunk in. You let out a disbelieving laugh before grabbing a breadstick from the basket in the middle of the table. You ripped it in two before throwing half at Billy. He let out a thrilled, shocked laugh before he picked up the breadstick and pointedly took a bite out of it.
You weren't the kind for flowery bits of prose to describe your every waking moment. You would never be described as dreamy or wistful, but you couldn't deny that your first date with Billy felt entirely and completely magical.
By the time he was dropping you off at home, you realized you never wanted it to end. You hesitated before getting out of the car, shooting Billy an unsure look. Finally, you worked up all your courage and kissed him. Billy froze the moment your lips touched his and you were briefly worried that you had gone too fast. You shouldn't have been scared, though, because Billy suddenly jolted against you, as if springing to life, before his hand was in your hair and guiding you closer towards him.
By the time you pulled away, you had missed your curfew by ten minutes and you couldn't help the urge to go for broke.
"Wanna come up? I can sneak you in."
"What if your mom finds out? She'll kill us."
You shrugged your shoulders, helpless against the grin you shot him. "Let's risk it anyway."
Billy's laugh was more than enough incentive to carry through with your plan.
That night proved to you what you had known all along. Billy really did belong at your side, in your bed, holding you close. It was even better than you expected and you hoped the tiny flame of warmth lighting you up from the inside never died out.
You snuck Billy into your room every night until graduation. Your mom already knew how you felt about Billy and while she was never going to be happy about anyone stealing her only kid away, she supported your plan to move in with Billy over the summer. Her graduation gift to you was to pay for your deposit on an apartment, which meant that you were able to find a place with Billy by the time he took a job as a lifeguard at the Hawkins community pool.
You took a job at Bradley’s Big Buy, since you only had your meager savings to rely on. It wasn't the most glamorous of jobs, but it would help you pay rent while you took classes at Hawkins Community College.
That June was shaping up to be one of the best months of your entire life. To anyone else, it might seem mundane and boring, but you didn't care. Every day, you got to wake up next to Billy in the bed you shared before getting up and making breakfast. Trading early morning kisses before leaving for classes got you through the day until Billy picked you up after your shift at the store. By the time you were crawling into bed, you felt satisfied and fulfilled, knowing you were falling asleep next to your best friend just to wake up with his arm around your waist the next morning, set to go through it all again.
You were so used to the routine you set with Billy that you felt bereft when it was abruptly broken.
It started for you when Billy didn't bother to pick you up from Bradley's after your shift. You were worried something happened to him, but you hoped that maybe he had simply fallen asleep on the couch after his shift at the pool. You had to call your mom to give you a ride home, since you didn't feel comfortable walking home alone at night.
When you didn't spot the Camaro in your designated parking spot at the complex, you started fearing the worst. You knew Billy wouldn't just not come home. Something bad had happened to him and you didn't have the first clue about what to do to find him.
Your options were limited, but you finally got your mom to let you borrow her car so you could drive around Hawkins and look for Billy. You didn't find him that night and you didn't find him the next night. You checked with every hospital in a fifty-mile radius, but there wasn't anyone admitted fitting Billy's description.
You finally tracked him down two days after he went missing from your life at the city pool. You knew there was something wrong with him when you caught sight of him sitting in the lifeguard chair wearing a sweatshirt. There was no way that Billy could be cold, and even when he was, he wasn't the type to cover up. He would never actually admit it to anyone, but you knew he liked to show off his physique. He worked hard for it and while you never wanted to begrudge him anything he wanted, the wandering eyes of Hawkins housewives bothered you. To see him covered up and hunched in on himself, gloomily sipping an Icee was just downright bizarre and completely out of character for him.
"Billy," you called, walking up to him. You noticed his shoulders tense before he tipped his head down to stare at you.
"What?" he asked, his tone cold and detached.
"What do you mean 'what'? Where the hell have you been? I’ve been worried sick thinking you were dead in a ditch somewhere!" You weren’t sure whether to feel angry that he was being so flippant about his sudden absence from your life or relieved that he was alive.
"Around," he answered, casting his gaze up towards the sky. "Taking care of some things."
"Billy," you started, not sure how to continue. "Come home," you finally made yourself say. "Whatever this is or whatever happened, we'll figure it out, alright? Just come home," you begged, hating how your voice cracked on the word 'home.' Your home wasn't much of a home without Billy. You missed hearing his laugh and seeing how crazy his hair was every morning. You missed feeling his warmth in your bed next to you and the way he hummed whatever tune he had stuck in his head while he cooked breakfast. You missed his touch and his kisses and everything about him.
Billy let out a chuckle that sent a shiver down your spine. You knew it was probably crazy, but it sounded nothing like Billy. You suddenly felt like you were talking to a complete stranger. "There's nothing to figure out. I got bored, so I left.
"Bored," you repeated, trying to make sense of the word. "You got bored." It was like a switch had flipped and your whole world was turned upside down. You had always feared that Billy would get tired of domestic life with you, but you never once thought it would actually happen.
"Bored," Billy drawled with a nod of his head. "So, fuck off. And don't bother me again," he added, almost as an afterthought.
You wanted to yell and scream and try to get Billy to make some kind of sense, but you could feel tears beginning to sting your eyes and you didn't want to cry in front of him. "Fuck you," you snarled before turning away. You felt like you couldn't breathe as you walked away from him, every step taking you away from him another punch to your gut.
You were trying to figure out if it was worth it to walk home or if you should find a payphone to try to get in touch with your mom when you heard someone call your name.
You were surprised to see Max approaching you. "Are you okay? Did Billy--," she cut herself off, searching your expression with worry. "Did Billy hurt you?"
"You could say that," you scoffed, attempting to hide the pain you felt, but unable to stop the tears slipping down your face. "I think we broke up."
"Y/N," Max said, moving closer to you. "I don't think Billy's himself right now," she explained, her brow furrowing in concern. "But we're gonna try to fix it, okay? Just maybe steer clear of him until it's over."
"What? Until what's over? Max!" You called as she walked away from you. You saw Max rejoin her friends, all of them huddled by the fence that surrounded the pool. You had no idea what the hell was going on, but Max's words brought you just the tiniest bit of hope. Maybe you hadn't lost Billy after all. Maybe it was all just a big misunderstanding.
You continued to go about your life as much as you could despite the fact that Billy hadn't come home yet. The whole town was excited about the big Fourth of July celebration, but you couldn't have cared less. That was why you were at the store while most of the town was celebrating. You liked hanging out in the back room while the store was closed. It was better than going back to an empty apartment at any rate. Your boss was fine with it as long as you remembered to lock up and didn't make a mess, so you compensated him for his generosity by making sure the store looked perfect by the time it opened the next morning.
You weren't expecting to see anyone for the rest of the night, so you were surprised when a car pulled into the lot. You were ready to tell whoever it was that the store was closed, but when you noticed Max getting out of the car, helping an injured girl out of the back, you found yourself unlocking the door instead.
"Max? What the hell's going on?"
"We needed some supplies," she said, nodding towards the injured girl. "A lot of them."
You had no idea what was going on, but if Max was involved, then you wanted to help. "Take whatever you need," you told her, gesturing for her and the rest of the group to enter the store. “Just don’t make a mess, alright?”
You weren't quite sure why Max was hanging out with Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers or why they all seemed like they were traumatized out of their minds. You knew you would be in for a world of trouble the next time inventory was taken, but you didn't care. There was a feeling in your gut that told you whatever had spooked the others had something to do with Billy. So, while they loaded up the car with fireworks and medical supplies, you calmly locked up the store and turned to face Max.
"I'm coming with you."
"What? Y/N, no, you can't. It’s not safe," Max tried to dissuade you. She shared a panicked look with Lucas Sinclair before looking back at you.
"I can," you told her, knowing you weren't about to be left behind. "Whatever's going on, I can help. I can’t just sit here all night wondering if you’re okay. I’m going with you."
"You really shouldn't," Dustin Henderson chimed in with a frown. “You’ve got no idea what you’re throwing yourself into.”
"I don’t care,” you dismissed with a shake of your head. “Look, I'm not staying behind while you all run off into danger. I've already let you steal from my job. Just let me do this.”
"Get in," Nancy told you, ignoring Max’s noise of protest. “We’re wasting time arguing.”
“Just...,” Max trailed off, shooting you an uncertain look. “Just try to keep an open mind. I promise you’re not going crazy.”
Those words would prove to haunt you, because what you experienced next felt like a complete and total shredding of your sanity.
Your night descended into complete chaos. Hiding from a gargantuan, fleshy monster was one thing, but seeing Billy attempt to run Nancy over with his precious Camaro while she attempted to shoot him was a completely different one. You didn’t even get to see if Billy was okay after someone crashed into his car because you were being yanked into a car by Steve 'The Hair' Harrington before you could be killed by the monster that was terrorizing the mall.
None of it made sense and despite getting a brief rundown on the Upside Down and a girl with superpowers and the monster that had infected your boyfriend and numerous other people around Hawkins, you still couldn’t wrap your head around how the night ended.
Because there was no way in hell it was real. You could accept that everything else was possible, but seeing Billy slump to the floor, bleeding and broken, was the one thing you couldn’t believe.
"Billy!" You cried, rushing forward, hardly caring about the monster that was still standing. All you could see was the pain and agony on Billy's face as he fell. You pulled him into your arms, your hand shaking as you attempted to wipe the blood from his face. But it wasn't even really blood. It was black and viscous, sticking to your hand as you met Billy's eyes. He looked so lost and terrified that you couldn't help the sob of anguish that escaped your mouth at the sight of him. "Don't leave me," you begged him. "Stay with me, alright? We'll get you help. We’ll fix this."
"Sorry," Billy gasped, his body convulsing in your hold. "I'm sorry," he said, his eyes tracking from you to someone standing over your shoulder. He looked to you again, his eyes shining with unshed tears. "Should've--," he started, before he cut himself off, coughing up a mouthful of clotted blood. "Love you," he got out with a gasp. "Love...," he trailed off before his eyes closed, leaving you clutching him tight, fighting the urge to shake him and demand he open his eyes.
"Billy? Billy!" Max yelled before falling to her knees beside you. "Billy, get up. Get up!" She demanded, putting her hand on his shoulder. "We need you," Max tried, tears beginning to stream down her face. "I need you. Y/N needs you!" She pleaded, meeting your eyes. "What do we do?"
But there wasn’t anything you could do. Billy wasn’t moving and he wasn’t breathing and he wasn’t alive.
Billy wasn’t alive.
You felt like you couldn't breathe and there was something clawing up your throat, begging to break free. It felt like it was going to split you apart and you desperately clung to Billy’s body as you lost your fight against it.
It wasn't until later when you were sitting in the back of an ambulance with a blanket wrapped around your shoulders that you realized what it was.
A scream.
