"Do I look alright?" You asked Nina as you looked yourself over in the mirror for the hundredth time. 

 "Alright? Y/N you look beautiful. Now, stop worrying and put on your heels; he will be here any minute." Nina started ushering you toward the front door. 

 "Okay, okay, slow down." You giggled at your best friend and started putting on the white heels you bought for this date. Of course, they didn’t cost even a fraction of the price of the dress Jack got you, but you liked them anyway.

 Just as you were done putting on the heels, there was a knock at the door. You felt your heart starting to race, but you quickly snapped out of it and opened the door to be met with Jack’s handsome smile. His hair was styled to perfection, yet it didn’t look stiff. He was wearing a black Tom Ford suit with a tie in the exact same color as your dress, and in his hands was a beautiful bouquet of light pink peonies. 

 "You look beautiful." Was the first thing he said to you, and you felt your cheeks turning red.

 "Thank you. You look really handsome." You smiled back at him.

 "These are for you." He said and handed you the flowers he had in his hand.

 "Thank you, Jack. You shouldn’t have." You gratefully accepted the flowers and gave them a look. They were even more beautiful up close.

 "I’ll just put these in a vase, and then we can get going." You were about to turn around when you felt someone snatch the flowers from your hands.

 "I'll do that. You two go and have fun." Nina said quickly before you could protest. You’d honestly forgotten that she was even there for a moment.

 "Alright, let’s get going then." You and Jack stepped outside. "Bye Nina" 

 "Have a good night." She waved back before closing the door.

 "Shall we?" Jack asked you and held out his arm for you to take it. You gladly accepted his offer, and the two of you started walking towards his car. When you came closer you could see the shiny black car with an Aston Martin badge sitting proudly at the nose.

 "What a gentleman." You giggled as he opened the car door for you.

 "Always." He smirked back at you. You gracefully sat down on the black leather seats and saw him close the door after you. The interior of the car screamed luxury, and the leather seats were cold against your thighs.

 The car ride was pleasant; you fell into a light conversation while the radio played in the background. You arrived at the restaurant, and you couldn’t help but feel out of place while Jack seemed as comfortable as ever. The fancy interior and high-society people dining were enough to make anyone outside their world of glitz and glamor feel intimidated. 

 "Don’t worry, most of these people have the personality of a door." Jack picked up on your nervousness and was quick to ease your worries. He held his arm out for you to take, which you happily did.

 "Yeah, but they also have the money to buy my entire apartment complex." You tried joking, but it sounded more like a snarky remark. Luckily, Jack didn’t seem offended by that.

 "Don’t worry, I’ll buy it back for you." He leaned in and whispered in your ear. You turned your head toward him and found your face inches from his. You locked eyes for a brief moment before reality came back to you, and you averted your gaze.

 Jack continued to lead you towards the head waiter. You couldn’t help but notice the flawless uniform he was wearing, and the nerves slowly increased. Your grip on Jack’s arm tightened, and you felt him lightly squeeze back as if to signal that everything would be okay.

 "Mr. Hughes, what a pleasure to have you back. Would you like your usual table?" The waiter asked when you finally reached him.

 "No, thank you; it will only be me and this lovely lady today, so a table for two will be enough." Jack answered and gave the waiter one of his charming smiles.

 "Very well, follow me, please." The waiter started walking towards a table by the big windows adorning one of the walls. Jack held out the chair for you, and you happily sat down. You said a soft thanks and watched as he rounded the table and sat across from you.

 "Do you come here often?" You couldn’t help but ask. "I noticed that the waiter knew your name."

 "I usually come here with my family or my teammates." He answered.

 "Teammates?"  You questioned.  Maybe he played college sports or something.

 "Yeah, I play hockey." He answered vaguely, but you suspected that wasn’t the entire answer.

 "Hockey? Do you play for your university?" You asked him.

 "No, I actually play for the New Jersey Devils." He bashfully scratched the back of his neck as he answered your question.

 Your eyes widened in surprise, realizing that Jack was not just any hockey player, but a professional one at that.

"I had no idea." That’s amazing, Jack." You smiled, genuinely impressed.

 "It’s a dream come true, really. The fans are amazing, and the team is like family to me." Jack’s eyes lit up as he talked about his passion for the sport.

 You nodded, listening intently as he spoke. You found it endearing how he seemed to light up when talking about hockey, and it was clear that he had a deep love for the game.

 "So, what is it like in the NHL?" You exclaimed, feeling both impressed and intimidated at the same time.

 Jack chuckled at your reaction. "Yeah, I do. It's a pretty demanding job, but I love it."

 "I bet it is! You must have a lot of dedication and hard work to get where you are now," you said, feeling a sudden wave of respect for him.

 Jack smiled at your words. "Yeah, it takes a lot of commitment and sacrifice to make it to the NHL. But it's worth it, especially when you have a passion for the game."

 You nodded, feeling a sudden curiosity about his life as a professional athlete. "What's it like to play for the Devils? I mean, do you travel a lot?"

 Jack took a sip of water before answering. "Yeah, we travel quite a bit during the season. It can be tiring, but it's also a great opportunity to see new places and meet new people. And playing for the Devils is amazing. We have a great team, and the fans are incredible."

 "I can imagine! You must have a lot of fans yourself," you said, feeling a bit shy.

 Jack smiled at your words. "Yeah, I guess I do. But I try not to let it get to my head. At the end of the day, I'm just a regular guy who happens to play hockey for a living."

 You smiled back, feeling grateful for his down-to-earth attitude. "That's a great mindset to have. So, what made you choose hockey as your career?"

 Jack thought for a moment before answering. "I've been playing since I was a kid, and I just fell in love with the game. I love the feeling of being on the ice, the rush of adrenaline, and the camaraderie of being part of a team. It's something that's hard to explain, but once you experience it, you just know."

 You listened intently, feeling a sudden admiration for his passion for the sport. "That's really inspiring, Jack. I can tell that you're really dedicated to what you do."

 Jack smiled at your words. "Thanks, Y/N. It means a lot to hear that from you."

 You felt a sudden warmth in your cheeks, realizing that you had been staring at him for too long. "Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to stare."

 Jack chuckled, waving off your apology. "It's okay. I don't mind. You have beautiful eyes, by the way."

 You felt a sudden rush of flattery, feeling both shy and excited at the same time. "Th-thank you. You're not so bad yourself," you said, feeling a sudden surge of courage.

 Jack grinned, looking at you with a twinkle in his eye. "I'm glad you think so. So, Y/N, what do you like to do for fun?"

 You felt yourself relaxing, happy to be on a topic you knew more about. "Well, I like to read a lot. I'm also a big fan of music, and I play the piano sometimes, though I'm not very good."

 Jack looked interested. "That's cool. What kind of books do you like to read?"

 You smiled, feeling more comfortable talking about your favorite authors and music genres. The conversation flowed easily from there, and before you knew it, the two of you had finished your meals and were sipping on wine, lost in each other's company. As the night wore on, you found yourself feeling more and more comfortable around Jack, like you'd known him for years instead of just a few hours.

 When both of you were done, Jack paid the bill. When you saw the price, you thought you would faint, but Jack didn’t even bat an eye as he handed the waiter his credit card.

 "Shall we?" He asked and held out his hand for you to take. You took his hand in yours and let him lead you out of the restaurant, feeling a sense of contentment wash over you. The night had been perfect, and you couldn't wait to see where things went from here.

  The two of you made your way back to his fancy car. The drive back to your apartment was quiet but comfortable. You felt a sense of warmth and happiness inside, knowing that you had made a connection with someone special.

 When you arrived at your building, Jack walked you to your door.

 "Thank you for a wonderful evening, Y/N," he said, taking your hand and looking you deep in the eyes. You noticed the blue hues in his iris and got completely lost in them.

 "Thank you for taking me out," you replied, looking down, feeling a little shy.

 He tilted your head up and leaned in, and before you knew it, his lips were on yours. The kiss was soft and gentle, but it sent shivers down your spine. When he pulled away, he looked at you with a grin.

  "So, Y/N, I had a great time tonight. I was wondering if you'd be interested in going out again sometime?" He asked bashfully while rubbing the back of his neck.

 You felt your heart skip a beat at his words, and you couldn't help but grin as you looked up at him. "I'd love to."

 "Great." Jack leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to your cheek. "I'll call you soon."

 And with that, he was gone, leaving you standing on the sidewalk, a blush creeping up your cheeks as you watched him return to his car and drive off but not before sending you a wink and a smirk first. You watched him go, feeling a sense of joy and excitement wash over you. This was just the beginning of something special, and you couldn't wait to see where it would take you.

You couldn't wait to get inside to tell Nina all about your date with Jack. As soon as you walked through the door, Nina greeted you with a big smile.

 "So, how was the date?" She asked eagerly.

 "It was amazing," you gushed. "Jack is such a gentleman and he's so sweet and very down to earth.

 "Wow, they're gorgeous," Nina exclaimed. "And the restaurant? How was it?"

 "It was so fancy, Nina. I felt a little out of place at first, but Jack made me feel comfortable. He's really funny too. We had a great time," you replied, still beaming with joy.

 Nina leaned in closer. "Okay, now I want to hear all the details. What did you talk about? Did he say anything interesting?"

 You started telling Nina all about your conversation with Jack. You talked about how he opened up about his love for hockey and how he's been playing since he was a little boy. You told her about his family and how close he is with his siblings. 

 "If he plays hockey, does that mean he is like a millionaire or something?" Nina asked, very intrigued.

  "I guess" you shrugged. "It doesn't matter to me though. I'm not interested in his money. I just really enjoy spending time with him."

 Nina nodded in agreement. "That's all that matters. I'm so happy for you, Y/N. You deserve a guy like Jack."

You smiled gratefully at your best friend. "Thanks, Nina. I'm really excited to see where things go with him."

You and Hugh take part in the Wired autocomplete interview

[this has been sitting in my drafts collecting dust, enjoy! Not proof read, just the vibes]

'Hello, I am Hugh Jackman,' he smiled at the camera.

'And i'm Y/N.'

'And we're doing the autocomplete interview,' he said.

You smile at how he tried his best. 'The WIRED one,' you added.

Hugh looked back to you. 'Oh yeah.' he laughed and apologised to the crew. 'I'll hold, you peel and read and I'll answer,' said Hugh, taking the board that started with him.

You leaned back in your chair, eyes peering at him. 'So, I do all the work and you sit there, ok, yeah, that's fair.'

He chuckled as you peeled away the first question.

'Is Hugh Jackman Australian?' you read, screwing up the paper and chucking it behind you. 'Um, no, he's not. It's all a bit he does, it's incredible he's kept it up for years,' you answer for him.

Hugh laughed. 'I am, I am Australian,' he insisted.

You shook your head, nudging him friendly. 'Such a good actor. Is Hugh Jackman retired?'

'No, just old,' said Hugh.

You chuckle before looking at the camera. 'He said he was retired but that was a lie,' you poke fun at the amount of times he said he'll never do Logan again... but did Logan again. 'He's a lair like I said- a good actor.'

You rip the next one off. 'Is Hugh Jackman... a good singer? Uh yes!'

'Thank you, there you go,' nodded Hugh.

'He's such a good singer,' you boast, holding his knee. 'Les mis, Oklahoma, The greatest showman.'

'That's where we met,' he smiled. The two of you did meet during the filming of The Greatest Showman.

You smiled back at you. 'We did. Yeah, highly recommend having Hugh Jackman sing to you, it's-it's magic.'

You do a couple more questions before finishing his first board and letting Hugh break it over his knee before chucking it away. 'Oh woah. You know, people would pay to have that done to them.'

Hugh laughs. He takes the board meant for you and peels the first away. 'I've got it love, let me. Is Y/N dead?'

'Starting off strong here,' you said. 'Um, only on the inside.'

Hugh chuckled. 'That's horrible,' he said through his laughter.

'Don't worry babe, I'm still here. Alive and kicking,' you mumble off.

Hugh eventually peeled away the next one. 'Ok, is Y/N in Wolverine origins.'

'No, thank god,' you said as Hugh, again, keeps laughing. 'No, I do not appear in that movie. But a version of my character does for like ten minutes. And i'm sure it was the better ten minutes of the movie.'

'I won't argue with that,' said Hugh.

'So it wasn't me but another actress playing my character.'

'Right, not confusing at all,' said Hugh. 'Just don't think about it really. Yeah. Right, is Y/N a billionaire? If she was, I would've married her by now,' said Hugh.

You laugh, rocking back and forth. 'Now I really need to reach that billionaire status,' you said.

Hugh's board was next.

'Ok, how Hugh Jackman got jacked?' you read, looking over to him. 'How did the Jackman jack?' you asked, the question coming out a bit more on the naughty side than you intended.

The both of you looked at each other promiscuously.

You held up a finger. 'Maybe I should have worded that differently.'

'Yeah,' he chuckled. 'Um, I basically was miserable for six months. No I'm kidding, a lot of training and boiled chicken.'

'Yum! How tall is Hugh Jackman?'

'6'2- 6'3,' he hummed, thinking about it.

'Do you think people are asking cause they're angry you're not 5'3 like Wolverine should've been in the comics?' you asked.

Hugh's face straightened. 'Why'd you have to bring that up?'

You chuckle, peeling away another one. 'What is Hugh Jackman.., made out of?' he laughs as you whisper to the camera. 'Boyfriend material.'

'Is that actually what it says?' he turns the board, checking it. It really did. 'Oh woah. I assume the interweb means the Adamantium in Logan?'

You snorted. 'The interweb, is that what you just called it?'

'Isn't that what the cool kids call it these days?'

You shake your head and toss his board behind you without sparing a thought.

Hugh stared after it. 'Is that how you treat all yours lovers?'

You purse your lips, trying to hold in a laugh. 'It's just a board, babe, you're the real thing.' You picked up the next board for you and handed it to Hugh who was peeling the first one away immediately.

'How is Y/N... oh it ends there. Well, that's very nice, how is Y/N?' Read Hugh, answering before you got the chance. 'She's very well, er, cause she's with me. Next one. Is Y/N single? What a good question.'

Next to you, Hugh was grinning like a mad man, or a man who knew a secret. Or just like an idiot in love. Any of them worked as you just stared back at him. 'Um, you'd have to ask her,' you said, trying to do what you did best and avoid questions.

'We are asking you, c'mon, the people want to know, are you single?' Hugh teased.

You shook your head with pursed lips. 'You know, Y/N is...' you trailed off, mumbling incoherently under his breath.

Hugh chuckled before looking into the camera. 'His name rhymes with Pugh Ackman.'

'Ryan Reynolds, of course!' you say, peeling off the next one yourself. 'Ok, is Y/N in marvel movies? um yes, a few.'

'Most,' Hugh corrected. 'If not all,'

'Yeah, i've done a few in my time,' you answered. 'Started when I was like, sixteen now i'm,' you pretend to count on your fingers, freaking out when you realised the numbers were high. 'Anyway, Hugh's turn!'

'Ok, i'll peel now,' said Hugh, giving you the board.

'Oh thank you, give my poor nails a break,' you said.

'Does Hugh Jackman... smell nice?' he leant over to you and you took an inhale.

You shrug. 'Yeah, he's alright.'

He chuckled and made a gesture at you before going onto the next one. 'Does Hugh Jackman, my name is falling on deaf ears I think now, does Hugh Jackman do all his own singing?'

'Yes, he does!' you yell. 'He's a great singer guys, no debate.'

'No cap!' added Hugh.

'Oh jesus,' you hide your face and laugh into it.

'What?' asked Hugh.

Eventually you moved onto peeling the next one. 'Does Hugh Jackman have tik-tok?'

You laugh too loudly. 'No, could you imagine if he did? I have to help him out with instagram for gods sake.'

'That's true, I do not know what the tik, nor the tok is,' said Hugh. 'Ok, last one on this board. Does Hugh Jackman do all his own stunts? No.' he threw the board.

'That was an easy answer,' you scoff. 'Do you want to tell us why?'

Hugh thought about it. 'No.'

'Alright then, my turn,' you said.

Hugh took the board before you could, not letting you hold it or do your own peeling. 'Alright, ready? Does Y/N do all her own stunts, aw, we're matching.'

You laugh. 'Um, I try to,' you answer. 'I try to, I really do but some are just too dangerous. Like I'm legally not allowed to jump from a building into a dumpster or walk away from an explosion.' You give Hugh a look, referencing that scene in Wolverine origins which he cringed at.

'Does Y/N write her own songs in The Greatest Showman? Can I answer this?' Hugh asked you.

You lean back. 'Only cause I know you're going to gush at me, so go ahead.'

Hugh got his answer ready. 'So when Y/N came on the project, it was only a half developed idea- if that. And I'd seen her at an Oscar's party and we started chatting and I asked if you were interested in this little project we were doing, you immediately came on board and started writing songs for this. I think, in total you wrote, what was it four- five?'

'Five I think,' you nod.

'Five of the greatest songs on that movie. Honestly, hearing it live and in the workshops was just, the best thing i've ever heard,' Hugh looked back at you, a loving smile on his lips.

You pout and rest your head on his shoulder. 'God that Pugh Ackman is a real nice guy.'

Hugh laughed and pecked your forehead. 'Does Y/N enjoy being in the avengers?'

'I do yeah,' you answer. 'I think there's like a lot of talk that when you stop playing a role you're supposed to come out and say you hated it, but I loved it. And I still love it. And I'll always love it.'

Hugh held up a hand. 'That being said. She would love being in the X-men more.' He waited for you to reply but you didn't and just stared at him. 'Ok, never mind. Anyway. Does Y/N drive?'

'Absolutely,' you nod. 'I've got the speeding tickets to prove it.'

'Ok, so these are your last boards,' said the lady behind the camera.

Hugh frowned. 'Oh, i'm having fun,' he said, taking his board.

You shrug. 'We'll just have to google ourselves at home more often.'

Hugh agreed and peeled the next ones, these questions beginning with 'Why'. 'Why Hugh Jackman, returned as Wolverine?'

'Good question, liar,' you said.

'Well, at first, you know, I wasn't going to, I really wasn't,' he spoke, looking to you as if cameras weren't pointing at you. 'But then this Ryan... Gosling guy? I think that's his name. He just kept asking and asking, turning up at my house, he got my number, I don't even know how-'

'Yeah, sorry about that,' you added.

Hugh laughed before carrying on. 'Eventually you know, he waved a bag of cash in my face and I knew, just to get him off my tale, I had to.'

'Yeah, that sounds like a Ryan Gosling move.'

'Why didn't Hugh Jackman win an Oscar?'

'Guys, that's mean,' you tell the camera.

'Thank you, interweb for reminding me I didn't win an Oscar,' said Hugh. 'Well, listen, when you find out you're up against Daniel-Day Lewis, you kinda know not to prepare a speech. And then when your publicist the next day calls and says yeah don't worry, you- you don't worry.'

'You were robbed for Logan,' you mused.

Hugh agreed with a chuckle. 'She's my number one fan. Why Hugh Jackman ran naked?'

You perked up. 'Hello, he what?'

The crew laugh at your excitement.

'It was for X-men two... well, I feel like every X-men movie I strip down,' said Hugh. 'Thinking about it.'

'Got to get that watch rate up,' you said.

'Yeah, exactly. So I did a scene in X-men two where I was running the corridor after just finding the metal in my body and the claws,' he explained, again only looking at you.

You nod, like it was the first time you were hearing the story. 'As you do.'

'And then I turn the corner and the entire crew of women are just there waving dollar bills and I, on reflex, went to cover myself you know and then I cut myself.'

You seethed in pain. 'And then you did it for Wolverine one and two and the next X-men movie,' you listed.

Hugh nodded. 'Then I never stopped.'

'Why would you?' you asked, raking your eyes up and down him and winking.

The last board up was yours.

'Ok, let's go,' said Hugh, scraping at the board. 'Why Y/N is famous?'

You laughed.

'Because she's fucking talented!' said Hugh, 'why wouldn't she be famous?'

You shrug. 'It was gonna happen one way or another. I became famous because I wanted money. And Hugh Jackman, one of them i've got, the other i'm still working on.'

Hugh grinned, wriggling his brows. 'Why did Y/N win an Oscar? Oh, you won one,' he joked, glaring at you as you laughed. 'Lucky you.'

You read the question again. 'I mean- that feels almost condescending you know like oh she won an Oscar, why?'

Hugh stared and pointed at the camera again, repeating himself. 'Because she's fucking talented! Why wouldn't she win an Oscar?'

'I won best actress for a movie called Room, which was very tough, very well written annnndddd I deserved it,' you shrug.

'Why did Y/N marry Hugh Jackman?' he gasped. 'You married him?'

'I have not yet, but I am engaged to Pugh Ackman, so um, please, feel free to send us gifts,' you say causing Hugh to drop the board and laugh. 'Um, I really need a new toasted and he likes watches.'

'Oh, he sounds like a nice guy,' said Hugh.

'He is, he's great.'

Cosmopolitan:Behold, Y/n and Harry Styles’s Relationship Timeline

A/N: I wanted to try my hand in a Harry Styles/Royal Family Member situation. I ended it in the year 2020 because it was getting to much. Much like a rich old man and a dusty bottle of port on a yacht, Princess Y/n and Harry Styles are a match made in heaven. There was drama, a lifetime of rumors, sweet reunions and, of course, that Cartier engagement ring. 

This couple’s love story was one for the ages. From meeting on the backstage of a One Direction concert to getting married, leaving royal duty, having a cute baby, and becoming the power couple the whole world has been obsessed with, they’ve being through it all. And after a whole decade of on and off, facing tons of unfair scrutiny, they only seem stronger.  On that note, let’s walk down memory lane through a timeline of their romance—including it’s ups and downs.

Circa 2012

Harry and Y/n met for the first time in early 2012, a the backstage of a One Direction’s concert in London, according to one of Harry’s close friends from Holmes Chapel, ‘Harry must have been mind-blown to meet Y/n, he always had a crush on her’.

The first photo we can find of Harry and Y/n ever being in the same place is from November that same year at the Royal Variety Performance, where the princess attended alongside her grandmother, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth. 

In December 1, the One Direction boys shared on their personal Twitter accounts about Princess Y/n’s cookbook, with the aim of raising funds for the Red Cross and for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. The book sold out on pre-order. Two days later, Y/n was spotted on the band’s Madison Square Garden Concert.

The two of them reportedly exchanged phone numbers to ‘keep tabs on each other’ ~ even though Styles was already rumored to be dating TS at the time~. 

Arabella Ferrer, Y/n’s roommate at the time, said later to a tabloid ‘they are both dating other people, but you could see that there was a mutual crush’.

 In 2012, Y/n was rumored to be dating on and off  ‘for a couple of years already’, billionaire Hugh Grosvenor, son of the Duke of Westminster and godfather to her nephew Prince George.

2013

By January Harry and Taylor were already old history, and Y/n was no longer with her billionaire boyfriend.  

Y/n was photographed by paparazzi attending Harry’s 19th birthday at the private members club Groucho. 

On Valentine’s Day, Y/n shared a picture of Richmond Park on Instagram with her thousands of followers, with the caption ‘LOVE’. 

Princess Y/n became a Oxford University graduated with a dual degree in Business and English Literature. And it was reported that the singer attended the private party throw by her older brothers in Highgrove, the Prince of Wales private residence in Gloucestershire. A guest was quoted ‘from the moment he arrived Y/n glowed, she introduced him to everyone at the party as her ‘special friend’ which is the royal family code for ‘boyfriend|girlfriend’, they gravitated around each other, nailed at a few karaoke duets, but I don’t believe it’s that serious’.

Days later, on June 1st , Y/n reportedly attended Harry’s mom’s wedding.

By July they’re in the first of many ‘off-time’ in their relationship. Harry’s busy touring with his boyband, and Y/n’s juggling her professional career and royal duty. 

2014

The couple was pictured with friends on the 24th  of January in Verbier—only a few weeks after it was reported that Styles were dating Kendall Jenner—.

Though  paparazzi weren’t able to capture the couple in any major PDA—apart from a few hugs on the slopes—. Y/n’s cousin, Princess Eugenie, and her boyfriend, Jack Brooksbank, were among the group, as well as the princess older brother, ~another~ Harry, with his then girlfriend, Cressida Bonas. 

The Daily Mail  reported that according to one source, “Y/n and Harry are pretty serious about each other, she knows his entire family and is close to his mother and sister, Harry already met both her brothers and cousins Eugenie and Beatrice”.

Y/n was spotted at the One Direction concert in Amsterdam, the particular date coincided with the state visit of the princess to the country.

The same month Y/n visited Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium and Luxembourg, rubbing shoulders with the other Royal Families of Europe—their are kinda of all related we’re sure… in some way— ‘Doing a Social: Royal Edition’ .

Due to Harry band commitments and touring, the couple didn’t see each other until October, when Y/n visited Styles in Los Angeles, the mood between the couple seemed to cool off after pictures surfaced of Harry out in a pumpkin patch with Erin Foster.

The couple was pictured—in two separated occasions— in heated arguments around LA ~in public~ and we can only guess why…

When asked about his ‘royal romance’ by interviewers Styles standard answer was ‘We are just really good friends’ but that cheeky grin in his face didn’t fool anyone. 

Later in November Styles is pictured by paparazzi going out with Victoria Secret’s model Nadine Leopold in LA, while Y/n is tagged on a Instagram post attending a friend’s wedding in San Francisco… on the same night, and is safe to say that they aren’t ‘on’.

Early January, Y/n is living to the fullest, enjoying single life around the globe with her inner circle of friends~and her ex, no, not Harry, Hugh!~.

She started in the Mediterranean and went on to …Verbier.

On February 01, Styles 21st birthday, Y/n went to her instagram to share a heartfelt message… about Maritime Life and the Health of the Ocean,  illustrating her love for the sea and all it’s creatures with personal photos ~or thirsty trap~.

Which Harry liked, as fans noted. 

And all this just a day after the princess being seen attending Styles birthday bash in LA.

A source told The Sun: “The moment she arrived, red lipstick, high heels and a little black dress, all eyes were on her, including his, poor Nadine, his rumored girlfriend, was completely forgotten on the side, Harry was all over Y/n”

“There’s nobody else he’d rather be on his birthday.”

That was the last time we saw Harry alongside Nadine: ‘they claimed schedule conflicts, due to tour, but Harry made it work once before, dating and touring, the truth, pure and simple is: Harry saw Y/n, and he saw what was missing in his life. He’s blowing up her message box with texts, but she’s keeping her foot on the breaks, Harry’s in the doghouse for now”. 

Around the same time Y/n was spotted out and about in London, partying around with her inner set—which includes her ex, and a few rumored flings—, dressing what we’re calling ‘the revenge wardrobe’.

‘It’s a punishment, she’s showing him what he’s going o lose if he can’t keep his wandering hands to himself’, the source claimed.

They are off again by the end of the year, not long after Y/n was spotted attending One Direction’s last concert before hiatus 

2016

Harry, his family and the Azzof’s were spending the first days of the year in St’Barts, and Kendall Jenner  was there. Khloe Kardashian declared  that Jenner and Styles were hanging out and quote: ‘Do I think they’re dating? Yes.’

Rumors about Jenner and Styles are put to rest later that month, when Y/n was spotted celebrating Styles’s 22nd birthday earlier in London. The ‘on-again’ couple  traveled together to Los Angeles—With sources claiming the couple is serious and happier than ever—.

March was definitely a month for rumors surrounding this couple.

There was the rumor that Harry had been casted in the new Christopher Nolan blockbuster —which turnout to be true—, that he was writing a new album. British tabloids started to run a story that either they are secretly engaged or almost there.

Rumors that they’re buying a house together. All this fueled by the fact that Harry and Y/n are no longer hiding their relationship or shying away from PDA.

May came with ~ goodbye long hair~.

The Palace announced on the 20th  that Princess Y/n would undergo a FOUR month long tour in the name of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Y/n was to represent her grandmother in engagements around Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Jamaica from 4th June to 14th October. 

After months apart, the couple were spotted at Heathrow in a ‘warm embrace’ and the singer turned actor welcomed his lady with flowers, ‘it was definitely two lovers reunited after a very long time, it was like watching one of those post-war reunion: They are very much in love, they spent far two much time apart, and they don’t car for who is witnessing.

Later that year it was announced by the Palace that Y/n would be moving to New York for professional reasons, but would continue her work in the name of Queen Elizabeth II.

2017

Y/n and Harry are spotted around New York, Los Angeles and London on the early months of the year, after vacationing together in Jamaica in the end of 2016. 

It was one his ‘secret gig at The Troubadour that the twenty-three years old singer, alluded to his relationship with Y/n for the first time since they have first being linked back in 2012. Before performing the soft ballad ‘Sweet Creature’ the singer addressed the crowd ‘I would like to dedicate next song to the girl that has been my muse since before she can even imagine’, Y/n, according to fans who attended the show, was in front of the stage singing along with her ~should we call him her boyfriend?~.

He is her boyfriend! Styles avoided answering questions about their rumored on and off relationship, but didn’t shy away from calling Y/n ‘his girlfriend’.

During his July movie premiere, Prince Harry and Princess Y/n were the VIP guest in the event, bringing with them three Dunkirk Veterans. Prince Harry greeted Tom Hardy and Harry Styles with the familiarity of someone greeting a old acquaintance. According to The Sun  when it was his time to be greeted by the princess the singer bowed his head after the couple shared a smile and reportedly cheekily said ‘you look very beautiful today, ma’am’.

This couple reportedly took another step in their relationship when Styles was introduced to the Prince of Wales in August.

During Harry’s tour break the couple once again was spotted out and about around London and Los Angeles.

We know Y/n and Harry spend Valentine’s Day together thanks to the Daily Mail publishing photos of them in the Caribbean.

In March Y/n was spotted around LA with A-listers Dakota Johnson and Kate Hudson, and rumor has it that the royal and her rockstar boyfriend bought a property in town.

In May Harry attends Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in Windsor. The couple didn’t arrive together, as Y/n, in a break of tradition, was one of her brother’s ‘best men’. 

The children of the late Princess Diana cut quite the image while walking to the Chapel in military uniform. Princess Y/n has been appointed a Regimental Colonel by the Queen in 2017, and our girl slayed in that uniform.

That same month, GQ Australia  drops an interview with Harry where he’s asked about Y/n and dodges the question with “I don’t think there’s anything I want to share about that. But thank you for providing the space.” Lol, but fair.

On the 29th  it was announced that Princess Y/n had resigned from her finance job, but before engagement rumors between Y/n and Harry  started to fly around, Buckingham Palace stated that the princess would be embarking in a four months long Royal Tour visiting Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand, with official visits to Japan and China. 

Media outlets were quick to point out that the couple would be separated till October, with rumors of a possible break due to ‘conflict of schedules’

In October  Harry and Y/n attend a event together ~a royal wedding at that~ and they looked super coupled up. Styles reportedly was introduced to the Queen and Prince Philip, as well as other members of he royal family.  

November 14, 2018

But nothing in the world prepared us for the announcement released by Clarence Palace on the 14th: ‘The Prince of Waled is delighted to announce the engagement of Princess Y/n to Mr. Harry Styles. The wedding will take place in the Spring or Summer of 2019, in London. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course. Her Royal Highness and Mr. Styles became engaged on February during a private holiday in St.Lucia. Following the marriage, the couple will continue to live in their private residence in London.’ Her Majesty is said to ‘be absolutely delighted for the couple’, a the time of the engagement announcement, Princess Y/n was seventh in line of succession after the birth of Prince Louis a few months earlier, and no longer required the Queen’s formal consent to the marriage.

According to reports a formal engagement dinner party was held in Highgrove days before the formal announcement so the couple would be able to share their happy news with their nearest and dearest, ‘they didn’t want for those really close to them to find out through the media’.

Following the announcement, the couple gave an exclusive interview to Emma Barnett from  BBC, Y/n  revealed that the surprise proposal happened on Valentine’s Day, in St.Lucia, ‘It happened after dinner, there was a orchestra in a smaller boat besides ours playing ‘Young and Beautiful’ which I love, when I urn back o him, he’s smiling, he tells me about his feelings, and to this point  I wasn’t sure of  what was happening, then the exact moment the orchestra is playing ‘Can’Help Falling in Love’  he got down to one knee and asked me to be his wife’ the couple shared a sweet look, and then Barnett asked how she responded:  ‘Yes, please’.

When asked if he’d seek permission before proposing, Harry said: ‘I asked her for her hand, but after we announced to her family I privately asked the Prince of Wales for his blessing, as I know they’re very close, and it was important for her.’

This might have been the most shared Royal Announcement on social media and by the end of the day #harryandy/n were trending on Twitter.

Harry shared the news on his Instagram, posting three exclusive pictures to celebrate the occasion, one from the beginning of their relationship~with a tooth rotting sweet~, a peak of the gorges engagement ring he gifted his~fiancé~, and the third one: the precise moment Y/n said ‘Yes, please’.

December, 2018

The couple was invited to the Queen’s traditional Christmas luncheon at Buckingham Palace on the 10th. 

On the 19th, the official engagement photographs were taken at the couple’s private residence in Hampstead, and were issued by the Palace on 19th, alongside the information that the wedding would be happening on 26 April 2019 in St.Paul Cathedral, the statement also clarified that the wedding would be privately paid by the couple, the Prince of Wales and the Queen.

About the couples choice a insider said, ‘they visited a couple of royal venues, but there was no doubt that it would be St.Pauls, it’s Y/n’s dream venue, she has put a claim in the Cathedral a long time ago, going as far a forbid her brothers to marry there’.

The couple traveled abroad to reportedly escape the media circus surrounding their wedding, with rumors of a royal rift between siblings.

A source said to The Sun: ‘There is some discontentment over the date of the nuptials coming from the Sussexes, the date is very close to Meghan’s due date, and not only she won’t be able to attend the ‘Wedding of the Century’, it also it takes the shine out of the birth of their first child’.

After celebrating the one year anniversary of their engagement on the 14th in the English countryside, the couple took their nearest and dearest friends for a combined ‘hen’ and ‘stag’ party.

To mark the wedding of HRH Princess Y/n of Wales to Mr.Harry Styles, the Royal Mint produced an official UK £5 coin, showing the couple in profile. In May, a set of commemorative postage stamps, featuring the couple's official engagement photographs, was issued by Royal Mail.

Princess Y/n accepted the position of UN Women Ambassador in a private ceremony.

The day before. The Cathedral is being prepared for the ceremony, the public and the press were able o get a glimpse of the floral arrangements already coming in and the stand in rehearsing the ceremony and testing the cameras for tomorrow morning. 

The Duchess of Cornwall, the bride’s stepmother, hosted a Rehearsal Dinner & Welcome Party for around 150 guests at The Savoy Hotel. For the occasion the bride wore Valentino and the groom wore Gucci. 

Camilla hosting the night raised some eyebrows from the public—specially among those that still blame her for Charles and Diana’s divorce— but according to one royal correspondent ‘Y/n is perhaps the child of Charles who is the closest to Camilla, she was six years old when Charles introduced the two of them, and she lived with her father full time while her brothers were in Eton so she was the one that had more contact with ‘Pa’s new girlfriend’ she was only thirteen when they married’.

Princess Y/n married her long time love on 26 April 2019 at St.Paul Cathedral. It was a star-studded affair, with guests including he likes of the Beckhams, Stevie Nicks, Elton John, Kate Moss, Ronnie Wood, and Paul McCartney. It’s estimated that the wedding itself costed around £32million. With the palace later confirming that the couple and the royal family had paid for he core aspects of the wedding, including church service, associated music, flowers, decorations and the two receptions that followed.

Y/n stunned the crowds in her  silk and cotton organdy Vivianne Westwood gown, which featured a nine-foot-long train and cost an estimated £250,000, she was lent a sapphire tiara by her grandmother, and wore her late mother diamond wedding earrings and sapphire oval brooch. She also wore a 5 meters long silk veil, among the hand-embroidered flowers, were  guitars and pieces from Harry’s songs and the constellation of their ~very~ compatible zodiac signs.

The bride made her entrance in her father’s arm to the sound of Elvis orchestra arrangement of ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’, one of the many break in tradition in he couple’s wedding.

The wedding reportedly attracted a estimated 1.2 million people on the streets and broke records of broadcast. The couple shared a kiss at a balcony appearance.

Elton John performed at the garden reception hosted by the Queen and Ed Sheeran performed ‘Perfect’ and ‘Hearts Don’t Break Around Here’, at the evening reception the couple once again took to the dance floor, this time at the sound of ‘One Woman Man’ by John Legend. 

Princess Y/n, in a break of tradition, made a speech calling Harry ‘my Sun and my water, my stay and my strength, the absolute love of my life’, after Harry confessed that he wasn’t good at speeches but was a ‘okay singer’ the newly wedded husband sang a slow ‘jazz like’ cover of Jonas Brothers’ ‘Sucker’ for his bride.

The newly weds left for their honeymoon on the 27th, after a wedding breakfast for 150 guests at Buckingham Palace, Y/n wore a The Vampire’s Wife going-away outfit, they departed in Styles’s convertible vintage red Jaguar. The couple set for their six-week honeymoon on a private yacht.

The couple took a brief pause from their honeymoon to attend the Met Gala, where Styles was on of the co-chairs for the night. The couple wore Gucci, Harry looked dreamy in a black sheer shirt and his wife looked gorgeous in a diamond tiara and a Plymouth-pink feathered gown.

The world was shocked when Buckingham and Kensington Palaces released a joint statement in the name of the Queen and the Duchess of Albany announcing that Y/n has giving up her place in the line of succession in her name and that of her future offspring, but would keep her title, and would continue to privately serve the HM the Queen and carrying out charity engagements. 

In her Instagram the Princess shared the pictures of herself and Harry, in the caption she asked for respect of heir privacy and said that she was: ‘following her heart, and taking the steps (she) thought are better for herself and the future family she hoped to build with Harry’.

The announcement come ahead of claims that ‘senior members of  the palace staff’ had been critical of Harry’s Met Gala outfits and his ‘quirky and queer style’ and are trying to ‘re-brand’ him and ‘control’ what he could and couldn’t do in his professional career as ‘his image reflected on the family’.

Honestly, good for them.

Harry is the cover of The Face, and boy, he looks gorgeous, he talks about his new album, his relationship with LA and move back to London ‘I am not over LA (…) but the relationship changed’; his status as a sex symbol, and ~of course~ his wife of almost five month ‘I have never been happier, life looks beautiful’.

And no, there is still no plans for a baby Styles, ‘We’re young, there’s no rush, we just got married’. 

For the first time in… forever, Y/n took to the Instagram to jus share with the world how proud she’s of her hubby.

AND, V.L Roche published another bestselling novel, that everyone is recommending, from The Michelle Obama to Reese Witherspoon. And it wouldn’t be relevant if it didn’t turn out that V.L Roche has been Y/n pseudonymous since 2010, in a interview this month the royal admitted that she was afraid os public opinion but Harry convinced her to come out withe the publishing of her TENTH novel. ‘Pictures of Us’ and ‘With the Band’ published in 2013 and 2015 respectively, had it’s adaptation rights bought by Netflix and Amazon in 2017.

It’s mind blowing that she was able to keep it private for so long, and…Was any of those amazing characters she wrote inspired by Harry? Her answer? ‘Perhaps’

We are shocked when almost a year after getting married, Harry and Y/n announce that they welcomed their first child. The couple are able to keep their entire pregnancy private, their families were informed and Buckingham Palace, Clarence House and Kensington Palace public stated their delight with the new family addition and look forward to meet them.

We are honestly shocked, I mean, they did a better job than Kylie Jenner in hiding their pregnancy.

We wish the new parents the best of luck and can’t wait for the next chapters of what is definitely a modern fairy tale.

I know the ask about Leyla being a trust fund kid is few days old, but I just wanted to add that quite a few wags ( not all obvs) come from well off backgrounds or at least had a “comfortable” upbringing.

The first few that come to mind are: Daniella Vince dunns girlfriend who went to smu iykyk and who is fairly well off, I know that’s she’s an “influencer” but she doesn’t have the follower count or anywhere near what she would need to afford her lifestyle.

On the topic of Wags that went to SMU, Kate kirchoff (now Seguin) her parents are old New England money. Ellie Connell who is mathew tkachuks gf also went to smu literally had debutant ball hosted by a secret- ish society in St Louis.

Olivia Bonner (Quinn Hughes’s gf) even though she comes from a small town in PA her family owns half of said town and she goes to FIT in NY which isn’t cheap.

Sienna Schmidt (jack hughes ex gf ) comes from from Wyckoff NJ which is one the wealthiest places In the US her parents are also loaded and she is a pretty successful commercial model in her own right .

Going back to leyla her grandfather is apparently a Turkish billionaire.

The sign was designed by Jack Larsen Sr, built by YESCO, and installed at Silver Slipper circa late ‘54/early ‘55, where it was used until the casino closed, Nov. ‘88. The sign was retired to YESCO’s boneyard which later become the foundation of the Neon Museum collection. The museum restored the sign and installed it in the middle of the road at 770 Las Vegas Blvd North on 9/21/2009.

 Howard Hughes and the Silver Slipper.

One of the favorite urban myths of old Las Vegas is the one about Howard Hughes buying the casino because, they say, he wanted to shut off the lights that kept him up at night when he was living across the street at the Desert Inn. In other variations, Hughes believed the slipper contained a spy camera, wanted the rotating mechanism turned off, and/or the sign filled with concrete. In fact the sign was never turned off and none of Hughes’ biographers have turned up any mention of the sign in his volume of memos written in his Las Vegas years. So where did this story come from?  

The story first was first published by a Review Journal columnist. After Hughes had taken up residency in the Desert Inn, the city was hungry for news about the mysterious billionaire.

“[Hughes] found the lights of the Silver Slipper, across the Strip, interfered with his sleep. Associates say he had them request the Silver Slipper to dim its lights. They refused. His emissaries say he has instructed them to negotiate for the purchase of the Slipper so it will no longer interfere with his sleep.” - Earl Wilson, column. Las Vegas Review Journal, 4/21/67.

In the months that followed Hughes began a buying spree of Las Vegas Strip properties, including the new build of the Frontier hotel which had new sign several times larger than the Silver Slipper’s. When Hughes really did buy the Silver Slipper in Spring ‘68, the columnist reversed his claim.

Massachusetts native Gaspar Griswold Bacon, Jr., born in 1914, was the scion of a politically powerful family. His father served on the board of Harvard University before his election as president of the state senate (1929-32) and lieutenant governor (1933-35). Gaspar Jr. summered with his friends on Cape Cod, where he joined a theatre troupe called the 'University Players,' including then unknown actors Henry Fonda and James Stewart. While they advanced to Hollywood stardom, success eluded Bacon, reducing him to the role of  a gigolo in New York City. Later, as 'David' Bacon, he moved to Los Angeles and married Austrian singer Greta Keller. Years later, Keller revealed that Bacon was gay and she was a lesbian, their masquerade marriage contrived to advance careers in Hollywood.

Bacon met billionaire Howard Hughes in 1942 and signed a contract to portray Billy the kid in a forthcoming Western, The Outlaw, which Hughes was producing. Before filming began, Hughes replaced Bacon with actor Jack Buetel, but Hughes still held Bacon to his exclusive contract, casting him in smaller roles for six films during 1942-43. Greta Keller subsequently claimed Bacon engaged in a homosexual affair with Hughes, which led to his replacement in The Outlaw, but no Hughes biographer to date has found any evidence supporting that allegation. 

On September 13, 1943, Bacon crashed his car against a curb in Santa Monica, California, hen staggered from the vehicle and collapsed. Bystanders found him  wearing only a swimsuit, with a knife protruding from his back. Its blade had pierced a lung, delivering a fatal wound. Greta Keller who was eight months pregnant when the murder occurred delivered a stillborn child and soon returned to Europe, where she pursued an active singing career until her death in November 1977, at age 74.

Police found a wallet and a camera in Bacon's car after the crash. The wallet's owner remains unidentified, and the camera's film contained only one image of Bacon nude and smiling, but despite persistent rumours of gay affairs with Howard Hughes and various actors, no suspect was ever named/ Bacon's best known Hollywood production, the Masked Marvel serial, premiered two months after his death, on November 6, 1943.

Top 7 comfort movie, tagged by @notasapleasure

Thanks! I was looking was something fun to do during this quarantine time.

By comfort meaning, able for rewatching as many time as I like without feeling bored or disturbed. OK, I have a few but can anime be called movie as well? Anyway, here’s my list

1. The Court Jester (1955)

I’m a sucker for witty dialogue + musical comedy + medieval theme which are all blended wonderfully in this movie. Danny Kaye was very funny and talented in this one. This always make me laugh like crazy from start to finish, and also the music is catching as well.

2. Star Trek (2009)

This reboot is very enjoyable to watch. Time-travel theme checked, Enemies to friends to...dare I hope? Lovers?! Checked. Gosh...those bantering dialogue plus reference to Sherlock Holmes (albeit a wrong one lol). Teamwork driven plot unlike a certain popular Sci-fi franchise. Every characters shone with personality, my favorite is Bones. And the CG was also pleasant enough in the eyes. What more can I want in a Sci-fi?

3. My fair lady (1954)

Although I don’t like that misogynist ending, I love this musical-romance(lol what?) so very much. Audrey Hepburn was so lovely. The plot and dialogue was enjoyable. The music was divine, there are few musicals I can claim to be able to sing along more than half of their score, and this is one of them. The costume designs, esp. that black & white horse race scene, was so beautiful.

4. You’ve got mail (1998)

Joe Fox had his faults, to this day I still couldn’t overlooked his business strategy of overcoming small local bookstores with his multi-million dollar book mall complex. Despite that, I still swoon a bit, whenever he and Kathleen were together on the screen. This is my go-to romantic fluff movie. The tone was so fuzzy and warm, and that classic enemies to lovers trope helped a lot. I’ve watched its older version “The shop Around the Corner” (1940) but I love this version more. Maybe it’s because it’s Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks’s chemistry.

5. Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms (2018)

This got me by surprised. I didn’t expect much when I first watched it but 5 minutes in I was hooked. This anime was an exquisite tearjerker, set in imaginary middle-earth-like fantasy land. Featuring an elvish-like girl (whose race has a very long life-span) whose home was invaded by the human, and an orphaned human baby boy that she adopted as her son. And picture that this movie span the lifetime of that boy( till the end of his days) I cried like a baby while watching this, haha is that comfortable for me, yes it is! Best mother-son relationship ever depicted on an anime, in my opinion. It make me want to be a better daugther to my mother! The art visual and music is also very beautiful.

6. Porco Rosso (1992)

My most favorite Studio Ghibli’s anime. There’s something so calm and beautiful flying a red aero plane over the deep blue sea, with a gang of enemy planes in hot pursue! I love its anti-war message, the strange pig curses that could be interpreted in many ways, the lovely Gina & Marco maybe-romance, lively Fio and also those adorable air pirates gang. With Joe Hisaishi’s OST playing in the background and Hayashi Miyazaki’s beautiful art, this is my very comfort movie.

7. It’s a wonderful life (1946)

Not just Christmas do I rewatch this, lol. But every time I do, I’ll be reminded once again that there is always something good in a bad situation. One of that good thing is people who are willing to help each other in their time of need. And I should strive more to be one too.

Honorable mentions; these films are not exactly comfort inducing film but for times of a certain mood I want to indulge in

Clue (1985) Sarcastically funny and witty. I recently found out that there are a few alternate endings but haven’t been able to find one yet.

Two Weeks Notice (2002) I love it sometimes because of Hugh grant and Sandra bullock. Also that once selfish billionaire who later learn to care about other people trope is quite endearing

Silver Linings Playbook (2012) Two people with psychiatric disorders reluctantly helped each other to cope with their problems all the while slowly falling in love is so romantic IMHO.

Merry Christmas mr. Lawrence (1983) The Lymond vibe is so strong in David Bowie’s character “Major Jack Calliers” That strong questions about “sacrifice”, “war morality”, and also the underlying homoerotic messages. This one was disturbing to watch but also made a very strong impression in my mind. I wanna rewatch it sometimes when I’m in a thoughtful mood.

The Honey Pot (1967). Rex Harrison and Maggie Smith are so memorable in this one. A crime comedy-drama loosely based on the play Volpone. After watching it, “Dance of the Hours” is never heard the same to me lol.

Megamind (2010) talking about enemies to lovers trope (Again?!) Ok I’m obsessed with this trope lol. I love this movie-cartoon whatever, Megamind is adorable. He and Roxanne are one of my favorite ship. And the redemption arc, gosh , was very well done.

And my latest watch, contender for the above 7 is Emma (2020), such exquisite productions of my favorite Jane Austen’s. It’s like watching a play instead of a movie. Very very well done :))

Hef Tragedy Jam

Hugh Hefner died yesterday. When the news was announced, over fifty women said they were dismayed. No, wait...over fifty women said they were “Miss May”. Fifty more were Miss June, and, well, you get the picture. If you were lucky you got their pictures.

Few of you reading this are old enough to remember that Playboy magazine was about the only place you could see a naked woman, and I say that because there are probably few of you reading this, period. But hey, my column gets more readers than the average suicide note, statistically speaking. Although I’m trying to increase my readership, and the average suicide note is more of a stand-alone project. I bet if George Lucas ever wrote a suicide note, he’d follow it up with three prequel notes. Each successively worse than the last. People would be like, “Why did he have to ruin that original suicide note, which I loved, with those awful prequel-suicide notes? I don’t care why he got depressed, but clearly only a manic depressive could make such a desperate cry for help as introducing Jar-Jar Binks. If I ruined a billion dollar franchise by coming up with an offensive racist caricature like Jar-Jar Binks, I’d probably consider putting a lightsaber in my mouth too.”

I grew up with Playboy magazine, and my early knowledge of female physiology was less from a volume of Grey’s anatomy or sketches by DaVinci, and more from volumes of Playboy magazine. It was like a reference guide, one that you would hold up with one hand. In fact, the first time I had a girlfriend who got naked, I wondered where her staples were. Of course, today, I’m the one who should have his stomach stapled, but that’s another story. Ah, sweet irony!

I’m sure Hugh Hefner went to Heaven, but whatever gleaming Mansion in the sky awaits us, no matter how glorious, for Hugh Hefner it’s going to be a pretty big step down from the Playboy Mansion. It may actually be Seventh Heaven, but Hef has been living on Cloud Nine since 1956. But, hey, he’s already wearing a robe. You know when you see depictions of Heaven, everybody is always wearing white robes? That’s because they were wearing those white robes in the hospital when they died. And they make you wear those awful robes that don’t close in the back because that’s where your wings will come out when you get to Heaven. It’s all part of God’s plan. I bet you’ll still have that plastic wristband on too, St. Peter just scans it at the gate to let you in. <beep> “Cardiac arrest. You’re good. Check in at the registration desk. Have a valid photo ID ready.”

Hugh Hefner was such a consummate pussyhound, I wouldn’t be surprised if he made a deathbed conversion to radical Islam, just to get the 72 virgins in Heaven. God would be like - I mean “Allah” would be like, “Pretty tricky Hef, pretty tricky. But...technically it counts. You old horndog!” Of course, you know what Hugh Hefner calls 72 virgins? A slow Tuesday.

The Playboy Mansion was famous for its out-of-control parties, and the mansion had a natural cave-like grotto on the grounds where everyone would go to snort coke and have sex. I guess Hef was a lot like Bruce Wayne, a millionaire with a mansion and a cave. And didn’t they call Bruce Wayne a millionaire playboy? Hef was a Playboy millionaire. But the difference is, Hef would rather do coke and fuck super-models whereas Batman would rather do-good and fight super-villains. Plus, Batman slides down the Bat-pole, and crazy hot chicks slide down the Hef-pole. In other words, Hef was sane, and Batman was, well, not so much. Batman is basically a billionaire who just wants to hurt people and not get sued for it and pretend he’s a hero. Kind of like Trump.

The grotto cave on the grounds of the Playboy Mansion had a huge, heated Jacuzzi pool, where movie stars, rock and roll gods, and celebrity athletes were eagerly humped by groupies, star-fuckers, and aspiring playmates. Unprotected 1970’s sex was messier than Michael J. Fox eating an ice cream cone, so the pool was probably 60% water, 2% spilled cocaine, and 38% James Caan’s jizz. The lifeguard got syphilis just from giving mouth to mouth resuscitation. At least that was her story. But that was about the same time Grand Funk Railroad was in town, so who can say? I do think ‘grotto’ must be the Italian word for ‘gross’.

I hear some of the more politically correct crowd, or as they’re more commonly known, nitwits, complaining that Playboy exploited women. And I guess it was exploitation, in the same sense that Vogue magazine is exploiting the mostly-naked teenage anorexic girls slash super-models in their magazine. And I say slash because that’s what these girls often try to do to their wrists. Unlike Vogue magazine models, at least the Playboy women didn’t have eating disorders. They’re a lot less likely to stick their fingers down their throats. I’m not saying they’re any less likely to have something down their throats, but not their fingers.

Exploiting women. As if Hugh Hefner was hanging around the Newark bus station looking for a girl down on her luck and fresh off the turnip truck from Topeka. That sounds more like the plot of a 1930’s movie than the way his business empire was run. I think what Hef did was have his photography editors, both men and women, spend endless hours going through duffel bags of mail sent in by thousands of women from all around the country who wanted to pose for Playboy. The staff would narrow it down to probably a few dozen, and then get Hef’s opinion on who was not only the most beautiful, but who had the look that would be right to feature in the magazine. That’s exactly what the editors and publishers do at Elle, and Vogue, and every other magazine that holds up a particular brand of beauty as an ideal.

And I don’t know any women who haven’t worn out the related links on their favorite porn sites jilling off to whatever their particular porn flavor might be, so who exactly are these people that still have a problem with Playboy? Because without Hefner’s decades of battles against governmental and religious censorship, there would be no porn sites. Hef made it possible to look at porn sites without pretending you go there for the articles. Without Playboy, people would still be saying, “Did you read that insightful article on the humanitarian crisis in Darfur? And that recently-found short story by J.D, Salinger?” “Why, yes. I particularly liked the profile of Jazz trumpeters from the post-bop era. And I did notice some delightful porn as well, between the articles, of course.”

The reason Hef could get away with putting in naked chicks is his magazine is because Playboy was a serious, respected literary magazine. The greatest writers of the day were in Playboy:

Ray Bradbury wrote original content for Playboy, and serialized Fahrenheit 451, which was coincidentally the exact temperature of how hot the playmates were.

The Beat writer Jack Kerouac wrote for Playboy, and that cat was cool as hell. Beat, Jack, that is exactly what Playboy readers do.

Ian Fleming published short stories in Playboy, and the James Bond novel “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” was published first in Playboy. We all know James Bond got enormous amounts of pussy. But compared to what Hef was getting, James Bond looks like a bible salesman with erectile disfunction. Or a guy who works in a comic book store. Think about that for a minute; the world’s sexiest pussyhound spy still gets less women than the guy who published the magazine his story is in. And Bond is fictional!

Roald Dahl wrote for them, too. The author of “Willie Wonka” writing for people who wonka their willies, sounds apropo.

Kurt Vonnegut wrote for them all the time, and that dude was cooler than Ice Nine. There’s a reference for ya!

Joseph Heller published a lost chapter of “Catch-22” in Playboy. I think the title Catch-22 might be the number of social diseases you’d get if you had sex in the grotto.

Margaret Atwood, author of “The Handmaid’s Tale” started writing for Playboy in 1991. I would imagine one of her stories was called “The Handmaid’s Tail”.

Hunter S. Thompson. Gabriel García Márquez, John Updike, Joyce Carol Oates, Truman Capote, they all wrote for Playboy. This magazine was the real deal, kids, it was smarter and cooler than absolutely anything you know today. You see, all of these stories were longer than 140 characters. Or even 280.

I actually learned quite a bit about culture from Playboy, between rounds, if you know what I mean. By middle school I could discuss the literary feud between Gore Vidal and Norman Mailer in English class and sound like a friggin’ genius, I just couldn’t tell the teacher where I learned it. “Where did I learn that? Oh, you know. Around. Literary journals, and the like. At that building that has all the books. Yes, exactly, the library! That’s the one! I frequent that establishment, I‘ll have you know.” What was I gonna say? My father’s sock drawer?

The Playboy Interview was legendary, they were deep, involved discussions, frank and uncensored. Here are some of the people they interviewed: Salvador Dali, Patty Hearst, Groucho Marx, Ansel Adams, Stanley Kubrick, The Beatles, Albert Schweitzer, Buckminster Fuller, Orson Welles, Peter Sellers, Abbie Hoffman, Tennessee Williams, Erica Jong, Allen Ginsberg, and Bertrand Russell. Then there are the so famous they’re known by just one name:  Fellini, Castro, Brando, Nehru, Sartre, Bowie, Nabokov, Hoffa, Carson, Antonioni, Mastroianni, Gleason, and Sinatra. And Playboy was woke, they interviewed Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Jr., Alex Haley, Miles Davis, Muhammad Ali,  Eldridge Cleaver, Dick Gregory, and Huey Newton. Holy shit, right?  Who do you see interviewed today? Kardashians? Ryan Gosling? Taylor Swift, but interrupted by Kanye West? This time we live in today has less culture than a petri dish.

Hef lived so long that most people today have no real idea how influential he was, what an important cultural icon he was, and that he somehow talked Marilyn Monroe into posing naked on the cover of the very first issue of his magazine way the hell back in 1956. That’s a dude with the Kavorka, big-time. And nobody was naked back in 1956. Not in this country. In 1956, people showered wearing a suit and tie, and apart from time shampooing, a smart fedora. They say people were more cultured back then because they went to art museums, bullshit, I think they only went to art museums to see the nudes in the oil paintings. You would too, and you know it, don’t even try to deny it. You’d say you were admiring the Titian, but you were really just admiring the Tit.

Nearly every issue, Playboy featured a very prominent celebrity with a well-established career and respected in her field who actually wanted people to see how beautiful she was without any clothes. Starting with Marilyn Monroe. And she was smoking hot, too, an icon in her absolute prime. Future historians will be more grateful for that photo shoot than they are for the discovery of the Nag Hammadi texts. Where do you go from there, Playboy? Well, how about Farrah Fawcett, the biggest sex-symbol of the entire 1970’s! The list of gorgeous, talented, famous, successful women that wanted to pose for Playboy might be hard for you to imagine, as you live in an age where women pose in magazines like Maxim with their clothes on! And men today pay to see that? Wtf? Man, I can see women with their clothes on just about anywhere I go. I can see that in line at the deli counter, I don’t need to pay for it.

Here are just a few, a very few, of the already-famous women who chose to pose with no clothes:

Daryl Hannah. Olivia Munn. Kim Basinger. Charlize Theron. Drew Barrymore. Denise Richards (she had kids with Charlie Sheen, so posing for Playboy was comparatively a relatively sound decision). Shannen Doherty. Belinda Carlisle. Jayne Mansfield. Mariel Hemingway. Margaux Hemingway. Nastassja Kinski. Sharon Stone. Rosanna Arquette. Vanna White. Elle MacPherson. Brigitte Bardot. Uma Thurman. Kate Moss. The list is almost endless. I almost said bottomless, but being Playboy, “bottomless”  goes without saying.

Sure, the last decade and a half weren’t great for Hef, but who stays cool past the age of 75? Only Bob Dylan and Picasso. Hef couldn’t let it all go, and at the end it was pretty sad. It was like Sunset Boulevard with viagra. But I’ll miss the Hef of fifty years ago, that man was at the forefront of political movements, cultural progress, gay rights, equal rights, reproductive rights, and the right to take your goddamn clothes off if you feel like it.

This may be the first funeral where you should bring condoms. In lieu of flowers, please give blowjobs. So long, Hef. Thanks for the mammaries.
