Between 1844 and the early 1900's, European settlers all but wiped out the vast Red Cedar forests of the Tweed Valley. These majestic tress grew up to 60 metres in height and 7 meters across the trunk. Specimens this size are now relegated to the unreachable parts of the caldera. Perched on the highest point on our farm are the remains of one of those Big Red. The steps carved in its trunk where the Cedar Getters made their platforms to fell these mighty giants are still visible. Today we decided that the decomposing stump would now nourish the life of a new Cedar that will grow in its place. Others have also been planted in the under story of the trees across the same hill. The joy of giving is so often multiplied. As is the case with my current exhibition “The Four Invitations Of Syzygium Moorei”. • x • The most obvious joy for me in painting is the joy of “dancing with the muse”. I feel so blessed every time I bear witness to the benevolent energy that animates a painting. I honestly feel my “job” is not to come up with interesting or beautiful ideas or images, but rather to hold space for higher magnanimous energy which reveals a special kind of magnificence. • x • However as this body of work is about the Coolamon (Syzygium Moorei) I wanted to give something back to the subject. @bigscrublandcare were so gracious as the beneficiaries of our wee auction to raise funds. Mark Dunphy from Big Scrub and Firewheel Rainforest Nursery actually brought Coolamon tune stock to the show. He also presented me with this beautiful book. Multiplication, upon multiplication. • x • @davidhancockphoto donated sublime Coolamon prints and his Wild Byron Coffee Table Book, more multiplication. • x • David Mills auctioned and entertained. In the process @mcgrathbyronbayballina purchased a painting with proceeds going to Big Scrub Landcare. • x • There are so many more examples of the multiplication of giving from the show.
