actually hold on there’s enough poll options for this.

every single soulmate pair in double life had some crazy twist of fate attached to them in some way. from teammates in past lives to people who’d never spoken but were perfect matches.

to be abundantly clear. this is not your Favorite. but the one that you look at and go “literally WHAT god put those two together”.

Ren feels his Q— the Shadow Lady’s presence before he sees her; there’s an aura of dread that precedes her and draws his attention. He frantically signals BigB to prepare for an incursion; hates the way his heart still leaps when he actually catches sight of her. He gets himself in a good defensive position, perched up on the roof. His bow is held loosely in his hand, not yet drawn; he doesn’t want her taking it as a threat, though he knows the odds of this encounter not ending in violence are low. BigB takes the position in front of the door, his sword out and ready. 

The first thing the Shadow Lady does is compliment Ren’s defenses, and all he can think is But they weren’t good enough. He doesn’t know if he means to keep her out or to keep her safe. Her voice is soft, friendly, and it frightens him— why does she still sound the same as she always did?

“I think you know why I’m here,” she says, and he dips his head in acknowledgement. The heady scent of vengeance is in the air, just as strong as the dread the Shadow Lady brought with her, and a part of him thinks he probably deserves it. The other part of him grits his teeth and swears he will fight until his last breath, because he wants to win.

And then she says, “But not you, Ren,” and he nearly loses his grip on his bow, and she says, “You were a loyal knight to me,” and he cannot breathe. 

His Queen has always been merciless, so why is she showing him mercy now? He drove her out of her own court, forswore his fealty, and she calls him loyal.

While he’s having this crisis, his Queen has turned her red-eyed gaze on BigB. “But you,” she says, and Ren should be drawing his bow, he should be preparing for the attack that he knows is imminent. 

And yet, he cannot bring himself to do it. He wants to move, he wants to help BigB— his ally, his brother in arms— but he swore. He swore he’d never lift a weapon against her and for all his faults Ren is a man of his word. 

Until the end of the server, he’d promised. And the server has not ended. 

Later, when he thinks back on it, he knows his Queen was even more merciful than she could have been. She still holds his name— even the rules of the game separating reds from the rest cannot override that pact. She could have made Ren kill BigB himself, letting him suffer the same fate of dying at the hands of an ally that had first set the Fairy Fort on the path to ruin. But she did not, and though Ren knows it was probably only his Queen’s red bloodlust, he is still grateful. 

And now he is alone in the Shadow Keep.

I wanted to finish the next chapter of Everything Stays today but it really got away from me. It might take a couple more days.

okay actually on the note of winners being watcher/watcher-detested (grian - watcher, scott - watchers hate him, pearl - fanon watcher, martyn - listener) i think either bigb or joel should win this season. for bigb, obviously he was part of nosy neighbors with pearl, and he was an evo member that wasn't stated to be disliked by the watchers, and also he so deserves a win <3 and then with joel he's not a watcher strictly speaking but he is, at the very least, liked by them because of how much bloodshed he provides. he just perpetuates the cycle and fuels the fire without even knowing about the watchers.

of course, other contenders could be argued (based on how much they satisfy the watchers' bloodthirst): jimmy, who is obviously HILARIOUS to them with his miserable, court jester-like experiences, could finally break his canary curse; scar, who was quite the loose cannon in the previous season, could finally avoid meeting another tragic end (which. his povs of other seasons are unrecognized in that aspect); geminislay, who can please step on me; and more!

so, as we are all trembling with excitement for friday, it's time for the big question:

I decided to keep his tails and cape because you seemed to like it

But more from the BigB skin and what I liked about the works of other artists, they are all wonderful ^^

And I also really wanted to make BigB look less scary

Yes, he chose such an image for this season, but he remained the same sweet and wonderful, and sometimes I forget about how he looks from the outside

Easter eggs:

Each alliance are positioned near each other (The Roommates, Big Dogs, Gem and The Scotts, The Heart Foundation, The mounders)

(in the sketch) Pearl is right across Scar because they were the last two to survive and also thematic parallels hehe

Everyone with their eye/s open have won a life game

Referring to the previous point, the way their eyes are opened match their Double Life soulmates (Scar-Grian are fully opened, Pearl-Scott only have one eye open, Cleo-Martyn only have one eye half-opened)

More Double Life easter eggs:

Scott and Cleo are both touching their faces the same way, since they're chosen soulmates

Jimmy and Tango are both in the corner

Skizz is punching Impulse because Bdub's skin looks beaten up

Etho is holding his own hand to match Joel's hand being held by Lizzy

BigB is next to Tango because Ren played as Tango for one session

idk sometimes I think about how isolated bigb is. the last time he wasn’t isolated was probably third life, and ever since—well the thing is that he also pushes people away, right? I think about the heart foundation and how bigb always kept a layer between himself and them especially here, but even his soulmate relationship with ren was—isolated. his secret soulmates with grian—well that was half not about him. his and cleo’s relationship that they can’t seem to fix. every season it seems like he has his own base, away from the others, and he’s alone—

I think about the heart foundation.

it’s not that people don’t reach out. it’s that I wonder if he knows, really, how to reach back.

anyway sometimes I think about bigb and isolation.
