imagine like. one of the ninja getting into an argument with jay and it starts thundering outside. Headcanon that whenever the ninja get really mad/can’t control their emotions they just subconsciously start using their powers and it has weird effects on the environment.

A couple years ago I asked a bunch of people on Twitter how they conceptualized their relationship to creativity. The answers were really varied, so I tried to group them into affinity quadrants and draw a little chart. I'm sure there are a zillion other ways to think about it, but I like remembering that making stuff is a moving target. It falls into all these categories for me at different times.

The sudden influx of media based on existing media being poorly executed I would put down to a Writer's Revolt.
We've learned that the only way streaming services will pick up a show is if it is based on an existing IP. Craig McCracken presented 16 original IPs to Netflix before they greenlit more Powerpuff Girls and Foster's. (https://twitter.com/crackmccraigen/status/1581748285236125696)
I'd be a bit frustrated knowing I couldn't pitch an original to anyone without an existing IP attached to the title. I reckon that's why a lot of the shows change the source material so radically. These people want to change the source enough so it will tie in to the story they want to tell.
Or it could just be incompetence and malice. I don't know. This made a lot more sense in my head. But still some food for thought.

Disruption seems like an endless mission type that is touted as really good for farming/long runs
but here's the problem - I like to play with music/youtube videos in the background and I can't hear the stanky demolysts
then again if you're just doing long runs it doesn't really matter, i can lose a conduit or two

as an anarchist i keep coming back to this thought of a setting where authority has real, tangible, magical power. your boss, the president, cops on the street, they all have (different and varying, but very clear and tangible) control over you. what does this change about the world? about anarchism? about the kinds of futures that are possible?

i don’t know about you guys but the main reason i am still on tumblr in 2024 is BECAUSE it is the most cloutless least influential social media app out there and that is the experience i am after. absolutely none of this will ever translate into significant attention or real success in my life and that is so beautiful.

Expanding a thought from a conversation this morning:
In general, I think "Is X out-of-character?" is not a terribly useful question for a writer. It shuts down possibility, and interesting directions you could take a character.
A better question, I believe, is "What would it take for Character to do X?" What extremity would she find herself in, where X starts to look like a good idea? What loyalties or fears leave him with X as his only option? THAT'S where a potentially interesting story lies.
In practice, I find that you can often justify much more from a character than you initially dreamed you could: some of my best stories come from "What might drive Character to do [thing he would never do]?" As long as you make it clear to the reader what the hell pushed your character to this point, you've got the seed of a compelling story on your hands.
