Least favorite track:

Album art opinions:
The album features an astronaut in a white space suit standing in the middle of a church chapel illuminated by the light from some large stained glass windows (only one of which is visible) and some electric lights on sconce-like fixtures. Aside from being a striking image, it illustrates the albums themes of religion and environmentalism. A picture is worth a thousand words, and this cover tells a story in and of itself.
Color: 7/10
Recognizability: 6/10
Vibes: 10/10
Total: 8/10
Music opinions/notes:
I had a very difficult time picking a least favorite for this album. Everything was well done. The instrumentals, the vocals, lyrics, and the overall theme. There was a clear direction for this album, and it was executed beautifully. Stylistically, we've reached the full influence of guitarist Josh Middleton, which means another new style of modern Architects, both continuing on from the base built with Holy Hell but also something refreshing and new.
Mix: 9/10
Lyrics: 8/10
Instruments: 8/10
Vibes: 9/10
Total: 9/10
Total Score: 9/10

AJ Perdomo of The Dangerous Summer
Recently I was able to schedule a Zoom call with AJ Perdomo of The Dangerous Summer to discuss the band’s new record, called Gravity. In this interview, we chatted about the direction of the new LP, how AJ envisions balancing out his band’s setlists with so much new material, as well as the art that he is inspired by. Today, The Dangerous Summer released their latest single and video for “Pacific Ocean.” Gravity will be released via Rude Records on June 21st, and pre-orders are on-going here. Good to see you again, AJ! The last time we connected we were talking about your last LP, Coming Home. But now let’s talk about the new record, called Gravity. Where did the title originate from? Man, I think it was kinda born inside the album. It was just a heavy album to make. I think it felt like going out there super far, super, super far into it…seven weeks in the studio, day and night, and I live right down the road, but I don’t even come home. I just kind of left everything I had for my whole life on pause. I go out there and I make an album and I believe in the journey of the album completely. I believe when I go into making now, it fills up my whole being inside and outside. It kind of felt like going to space or something. People back in the day were singing about, even David Bowie, you start to feel really lonely out there, you start to feel that you stood to really understand what that meant when they were trying to almost scream out to people saying, “hey, I’m out here.” It can just feel like that sometimes. It was really born out of that and gave everything we had to the sound push as hard as we could. And I felt like an astronaut in space. And I think you were originally tinkering with a different title for this record? I wonder where you heard that… It was in a press release. I think one of the quotes was pulled when mentioning how Gravity kind of came together late in the process, I think… Yeah, it came late in the process. I forget what that was… But anyways, I love the one-two punch of the new singles that came out, “Gravity” is doing really well. “What’s An Hour Really Worth?” is also a really powerful statement. Can you walk me through the writing process for the second single? Man, we constantly jam a lot of ideas. We, as a band, kind of write the music together, and we’re connected musically. And then I go and I write, I go right in my room and try to make lyrics. And as soon as it can take forever, sometimes it can take just a little bit . And it’s kind of like this back and forth thing. So I do remember making “What’s An Hour Really Worth?,” and the funny thing is, I mean, you say the one-two punch of the singles, man. It’s hard to fix things. I don’t know what the single should be, it’s so crazy. And honestly, I was like, wow, that’s why the people want to put “What’s an hour really worth” as a single and then it gave it that energy. In my mind, the older records in my head, feel a lot like the songs on Reach for the Sun. So it has kind of turned around within that get like and then this one kind of has the same kind of clicking and moving over itself, type of feeling. I thought it’d be kind of one of those songs that people really love, but it wasn’t a single. But yeah, writing it, you have a general idea. And I remember we’re thinking in a very Biffy Clyro-type way, that riff had a feeling to it. And then we said once the drums came in, I know we referenced Alt-J as a really cool reference for the drums. It has a cool clicking to it. And as soon as I heard it, I was like, Okay, wow, this is really cool! I can write some really cool stuff to this…And I remember that’s the thing about the lyrics. You kind of feel these songs, and you feel the emotional path, and the sounds. Because, I mean, that’s all music really is. It’s like a blueprint for motion. So you’ve got this kind of blueprint and you have this moment you’re like, “Okay, well is it a love song?” Or is this song starting taking these journeys,… https://chorus.fm/features/interviews/aj-perdomo-of-the-dangerous-summer/

Owen Lodger presents: Midnight Madness.
The song makes an impact with its pulsating bass line, intricate melodies, and ethereal vocals that glide over the music.
Owen Lodger is an artist with a focus on creating music that has a broadly diverse approach. Somewhere between indie-pop and alternative electronic elements, the artist is all about creating immersive soundscapes and relatable melodies with lyrics that are personal and direct. His most recent single, Midnight Madness, is actually a perfect example. The song kicks off with bright and melodic synth riff, soon followed by a powerful saturated bass line and a lo-fi drum beat that adds so much organic depth to the sound. The intro part seamlessly transitions into a catchy verse section, fueled by a groovy drumbeat and a blend of electronic and lo-fi elements with a more organic vibe. Owen’s vocals and clean staccato guitars follow soon after, giving the song a different vibe right out of the gate. The song has a very hands-on indie vibe, with a fresh and energetic approach. However, the sound design is very immersive, bringing an element of ambiance to the mix. The chorus, in particular, is memorable and anthemic, inviting listeners to sing along in a very subtle, but enticing way.
Throughout the song, the instrumental is balanced and direct, with a really deep low end and a crunchy mid-range that adds a lot of excitement to the track. In addition to that, the treble range is smooth and bright, adding a lot of silky edge to the mix, and allowing the vocals to really pop to the forefront of the mix with ease. The sound of this release can be described as dynamic, energetic, and filled with catchy melodies. Yet, there is also a very haunting, mesmerizing set of textures, which makes the song all the more layered and accomplished. The track, with its blend of live instrumentation and electronic elements, incorporates a variety of sounds, including electric guitars, synths, drums,, and of course ,vocals. Owen’s ability to seamlessly transition between different musical styles is a hallmark of his sound, and this song is a testament to his varied set of skills.
As the title might suggest, Midnight Madness offers a bit of a nocturnal atmosphere, but it is by no mean a gloomy or depressive song. On the contrary, it is an extremely vibrant track that provides a beautiful, lush and forward-thinking sound that’s really impactful from the moment you hit the play button.
Owen’s music has a dream-like, yet uplifting quality that draws listeners into his sonic world. For this reason, Midnight Madness comes highly recommended to fans of artists such as Blur, Francis Moon, Biffy Clyro, Dead Rituals, Beck, Sleigh Bells or M83, only to name but a few.
Overall, the sound of this release by Owen really stands out for being a unique combination of genres and styles, characterized by catchy melodies, energetic performances, and thoughtful songwriting. Today, genre boundaries don’t make much sense anymore, so it is always very refreshing to see artists like Owen continuing to break new ground and make amazing music regardless of genre definitions and other categories. At the end of the day, it is really all about making music that sounds and feels great regardless of labels! For this reason, Midnight Madness is a wonderful release, which deeply resonates with fans of music that’s made with passion and personality. Owen will undoubtedly be able to leave a lasting impact on his audience with Midnight Madness!
In conclusion, Midnight Madness showcases Owen Lodger’s ability to create original music by blending contrasting elements into a cohesive and enjoyable sound that sets him apart in the indie music scene, and beyond. This song swiftly exemplifies the artist’s ability to blend indie rock-inspired elements with electronic sounds, creating a very personal tone that falls somewhere in between these two different musical philosophies in a very even way. The overall sound is haunting and atmospheric, evoking a feeling of introspection and a sense of being carried away

∞? please?
(full disclosure my music app is full of comedians, instrumentals and albums I swear I will listen to someday so I had to skip a few to get to a song I could actually talk about)
Okay so the first song I knew that came up was The Thaw by Biffy Clyro from the album Opposites (which is my favourite aside from all the other albums which are also my favourite).
Fav bit from the song was 'You could have taken it all/But you should have asked/I would give you my tongue/Or my dying breath'
Biffy has a habit of nonsense poetry and violent lyrics and this habit makes the use of that language feel genuine to me, so I believe him when he offers his tongue and his breath.
The offer of a dying breath is beautiful to me - it's something harsh and delicate and precious. And then there's this vague context of this person stealing from the singer (and lying throughout the song) and he doesn't even care.
#biffy never really makes sense#and their words can be really visceral sometimes#i love trying to figure out what some lyrics mean#this is your regular reminder to listen to biffy clyro#ask me stuff#tbh this is not my fav biffy song#but it is a good one#They're all good ones

Mr. Pinstripe Suit - A Godot Playlist
An updated, revamped version of an ancient FST of mine (I mean like, Livejournal old.) Brought to you by the convenient modern technological magic of Spotify!
Appropriately jazz, swing, and rockabilly-heavy with a darker second half, but mostly upbeat. Contains allusions to spoilers for Trials and Tribulations and all the Miego you can drink (17 cups worth, even.)

------------------------
Overture | Mr. Pinstripe Suit - Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
… Now he strolls through the city like a big ol' alley cat
With his pinstripe suit and a big bad voodoo hat
I don't believe I ever saw him without a kitten on his hand
And no one swings as hard to the big bad voodoo band
----
Diego | Alter Ego - Donald Byrd
(Instrumental)
----
Turnabout Beginnings | Town Without Pity - The Brian Setzer Orchestra
How can we keep love alive? How can anything survive?
When these little minds tear you in two
What a town without pity can do
----
By Her Side | Dominoes - Donald Byrd
Hold me tight (hold me tight), don't let go
Turn me loose, never, no, no, no
We'll stand our problems all in a row
Watch them fall like dominoes
----
Flirtation | Butterfly - Jason Mraz
Butterfly, well you landed on my mind
Damn right you landed on my ear and then you crawled inside
And now I see you perfectly behind closed eyes
I want to fly with you and I don't want to lie to you
NOTES: Wholesome and horny. Whorny, if you will.
----
Dating | You’re the Boss - The Brian Setzer Orchestra
Baby, you've got me beat up and down, inside out and across
But in the middle of the night, when the moon is shinin' bright
You're the boss
NOTE: 1. This song is ALSO very horny 2. Mia tops, song confirms it.
----
Those Six Months | This Boy’s Last Summer - The Night Flight Orchestra
Over and over and over again, through those cheap and dirty thrills
Over and over I’ve learned only true love kills
If those haunted memories enter my mind
Only you can save me this time
Somewhere deep inside you know you’ll always be mine
NOTES: GOD NFO is so good, this song slaps. Also song’s about a man falling in love after a series of meaningless (”summer”) relationships, but is also depressingly literal in Diego’s case here and AAGGHHH
----
Dahlia | La Camisa Negra - Juanes
TRANSLATED FROM SPANISH (not by me):
(I drank from the malevolent poison that was your love
I remain a dying man and full of pain
I breathe in that bitter second of your goodbye
And since you left me alone...
I wear the black shirt / Because my soul is just as black)
----
Coma | Machines - Biffy Clyro
I whisper empty sounds in your ear and hope that you won't let go
Take the pieces and build them skywards
‘Cause I've started falling apart I'm not savoring life
I've forgotten how good it could be to feel alive
----
Awakening | Funeral in His Heart - October Project
He had a love, it was keeping him alive
It was someone else ago
So he tried to hide it
But he knew he’d never let it go
----
Missing Her | Since I Don’t Have You - The Brian Setzer Orchestra
I don't have happiness / And I guess I never will ever again
When you walked out on me, in walked old misery
And he's been here since then
NOTES: Okay but when they make an Ace Attorney jukebox musical, I want Godot performing this absolutely over the top solo lament complete with choreography, then quietly drinking a cup of coffee and pretending it never happened.
-----
Godot | Not Yet - Michel Camilo
(Instrumental)
----
Phoenix | Wipe That Smile Off Your Face - Our Lady Peace
See, I’m not your friend
And I won’t pretend
That I’ve come here for peace
Well, I’m not afraid
I’m gonna make you pay
I’m gonna wipe that smile off your face
-----
Bitter as Hell | Bitter - Remy Zero
And I tried to believe in these lies
I tried to still see with black eyes
I wanted to tame you but you never came through
Bitter / Just one more day when it’s already been too long
----
Trite | Fake - Mystery Skulls
Gonna make you sorry that you met me
Gonna make your insides hurt
I've been laughing, we're all laughing at you
Cause it's funny, 'cause you're worse
NOTES: By the way, special thanks to “Turntable Turnabout” for introducing me to Mystery Skulls in the first place. (Go look on Youtube if you’ve never seen it.)
----
Bridge to the Turnabout | Blood Like Lemonade - Morcheeba
Hunting high and low to seek revenge
Brand new moral code, got made reluctant renegade
Leaving empty souls when he avenged
Evil spirits flowed, he drank the blood like lemonade
----
The Bitter Truth | Hollow Man - R.E.M.
I’ve overwhelmed, I’m on repeat, I’m emptied out, I’m incomplete
You trusted me, I want to show you
I don’t want to be the hollow man
----
Everlasting Love | Sister Mercurial - The Night Flight Orchestra
I remained terrestrial, you took to the air
I despised the factual, you became aware
And I never will regret choosing death when we were young
Somewhere in the stratosphere you will watch me 'til I'm done
NOTES: OWWWWWWWW
-----
Mia | California Sad-Eyed Girl - Rockapella
You’ll always be the summer in my winter world
My California sad-eyed girl
I need to know - Are we still in your mind?
And come one day, impossible as it may seem, I can dream
At the end of this road somewhere, you wait for me
NOTES: “Japanifornia Sad-Eyed Girl” *almost* scans, too...
-----
The Fragrance of Dark Coffee - insaneintherainmusic
(Instrumental) One of many fine covers by the amazingly talented insaneintherainmusic!

Thran-duils’ heavily encouraged dark!character writing challenge
I’ve wanted to host a writing/prompt challenge for a long time but I’ve always been too nervous (it’s a perpetual thing lmao). Well, I am taking the dive! Rules and all the information below the cut!
Credit to @santacarlahorrorshow for the lovely header! <3
RULES
1. This challenge is 18+. Seriously, don’t be a dick and ignore this rule.
2. Following that, all characters and reader insert are to be 18+
3. I really, really, really encourage dark!characters or dark!reader or both (soft!dark, dark, heavy!dark) for this but they do not have to be if that makes you uncomfortable. A lot of these prompts are going to be leaning towards dark but there are ways to not utilize them that way I’m sure!
4. These fics are to be reader insert.
5. Fandoms accepted are: Supernatural, Marvel, The Walking Dead, and Lord of the Rings verse (I’m begging for some Thranduil here lmao no shame).
6. All characters welcome! But please do not use real life actors for this!
7. Please do not write beastiality. That’s really the only thing I’m gonna be like “plz don’t” kink about.
8. The fics for this must be new, not adding to an already existing story. They can be drabbles, one shots, or a starting chapter for a new series.
9. I went back and forth about this but I think I am not going to put a limit on how many people can choose a prompt. This may come back to backfire on me but one prompt just might be popular and it would be fun to see what variations can come from it!
10. Send me an ask with your prompt you would like and character/s. I will tag you next to the prompt.
11. If you need to back out of the challenge, send me a DM and I will remove you. Things happen!
12. Make sure to tag your fics appropriately if they are dark! Not only does this help people avoid triggers but also you’ve done your due diligence to tell people to gtfo and if they don’t, well, then that’s on them.
13. You do not need to be following me to participate!
14. Please tag the fics as #thranduilswritingchallenge and also tag me to make sure I see it!
15. For lyrics and quotes, please use them in the fic! If there’s breaks in the lyric, feel free to break it up in the fic though. Situations are for encouragement. I did edit one lyric, Olivia O’Brien. I put the songs next to the lyrics in case you want to listen to the song.
16. The deadline for this challenge is September 4, 2021. I will make a masterpost and I will post it either 9/5 or 9/6!

@adventures-in-asexuality tagged me to do five songs I’m listening to and for the first time in ever that includes a videogame OST and I hate that so here’s the goddamn list with the game song at the end:
SOFI TUKKER - Good Time Girl (feat. Charlie Barker). I’ve been really into swagger songs lately, people very obnoxiously enjoying being themselves. It’s the energy I want to bring forward into life now. My brain is extremely hooked on the enunciation of the lyric me and my inferiority contest; I’m not winning... but I’m having a very good time. I’m also pretty sure it’s like the title track for season 2 of The Young Pope so I’ve got that to look forward to. Oh yeah I’m watching The Young Pope for the first time, it’s lit.
AJJ - Goodbye, oh Goodbye. I have on and off listened to random songs by AJJ for ages because a lot of dear friends really love them, I occasionally just smash through all of People Who Eat People while working on creative projects. There’s a kind of bittersweet triumph-but-escape-can-only-ever-be-so-triumphant vibe to a lot of their music which tugs me in all sorts of emotional directions. I actually got linked to this one because they did a hysterically funny OK Go parody for the music video. Anyway yeah it’s good.
Fata Boom - Fäsjøn. More swagger song stuff. Fata Boom are very very music you play at house parties junk and it’s vapid but extremely fun and I kind of dig the sense of humour. A lot of pop-adjacent/hip hop people are very funny and I like that. I really want to use this in a like Gearing Up montage in an action story.
Biffy Clyro - Living is a Problem Because Everything Dies. Guess who remembered Biffy Clyro exists this week? I used to listen to them relentlessly when I was 18, how times change. The Scottish stadium-rock band I will always go to bat for because they’re clearly very fascinated in nonsense. They have an entire album based off vibes Simon Neil got from reading a Jeffery Dahmer book he only half-remembers, so many of their lyrics sound like the meaning is only just beyond your reach. If you like David Lynch you should like Biffy Clyro, how’s that for a hot take.
Masayoshi Soken - Fallen Angel. I’ve been playing a lot of Final Fantasy XIV lately. It’s pretty good. I’m just been caught by a riptide of plot and the emotional stakes are going to drag me out to sea, which is funny because I didn’t actually pick Leviathan’s theme for this. Garuda just has the best, most banging boss music I’ve seen in a videogame, I genuinely play it at work all the time now. One of my friends took me to the Extreme version of her fight and I got a magic horse that plays the boss music all the time and I am LIVING.
I will tag @frilthy @thevoiceofentropy @legitfuntimes @weslyphon but if you read this and want to do it just go on man I’m not a cop

for the fandom playlist: time to create a new musical version of Les Mis
This is such a good ask and I present you with some incredibly chaotic answers for it
She's my Winona, fall out boy - Enjolras, tbh. "Hell or glory, I don't want anything in between. Then came a baby boy with long eyelashes whose daddy said you gotta show the world the thunder" sounds like a revolutionary Mood to me
Biblical, Biffy Clyro - Grantaire. "If you could, would you go back to the start? Make any fresh steps or watch it all fall apart again?" is a PAINFULLY barricade day grantaire mood plus the general analogy of being so in love with someone you basically worship them
Lady Madonna, Beatles - Valjean I mean come ON "the children at your feet wonder how you manage to make ends meet - see how they run" is just spot on Valjean raising Cosette in hiding but with so much love
Dammit, Blink 182 - Eponine. The entire song is about loving the wrong person, knowing you aren't worth their time, hearing they've moved on, and realising that this is how the world is when you grow up ANYWAY I'll cry over Eponine any day you see if I won't
Rock n roll suicide, David Bowie - Fantine, tracking her from when she loses her job and following her decline. The end - "oh no love - you're not alone!" - is when Valjean tries to help her
Who lives, who dies, who tells your story, Hamilton - this is just straight up Empty Chairs at Empty Tables so of COURSE it's Marius and I AM sad about it. Talking about all his friends who he lost
The neverending why, placebo - listen to the lyrics "The tremor becomes a quake, There's a body in the lake // And as the two of us rebel, Damn you all to hell, I wonder if that's all there is" and I DARE you to tell me to my face it's not a Javert's Suicide song. This is Javert as he falls and I have never considered adding Javert to my "characters there are placebo songs for" list but goddamn he's there
Boulevard of broken dreams, green day - this has powerful On My Own vibes but honestly apply to whichever pining fool in Les Mis currently takes your fancy
Stand and deliver, Adam and the Ants - Montparnasse, oh my god, are you kidding? The Entire Song is like "your fashion is ugly and you're not as cool as me, now give me all your jewelry this is a robbery" how much more Montparnasse can it get???
Richard and judy, Spook School - hot take but modern AU eposette song, w NB Eponine and they're both lesbians and angry little gays

Anthony Raneri of Bayside
Recently I was able to catch up with Anthony Raneri of Bayside to discuss everything that went into their new album, There Are Worse Things Than Being Alive, that just dropped today. The latest record, Bayside’s ninth in total, is a great mix of all the elements that made the band rise to fame in the genre, and as Anthony puts it in the interview, “It sounds like Bayside, but better.” Bayside are currently on tour in support of the new album, and tour dates are below. Thank you so much for your time today, Anthony. Bayside is gearing up for the release of their ninth studio album called, There Are Worse Things Than Being Alive, out digitally on April 5, and I know the vinyl comes out a little bit later after that. So where did the album title originate from, and what does it mean to you today? I think it’s about looking on the bright side. I think it’s about…there’s a lot of lyrical content on the record that talks about different struggles. I touch on getting older, growing up, life changing. But the title sort of brings it back to at the end of the day that being alive isn’t so bad, right? We’ve got to make the best of what we have, and that life isn’t so bad. Gotcha. And I listened to the advance of the new record, which sounds incredible by the way from my perspective, and it feels as if your band is as passionate as you’ve ever been about your music. Where do you continue to draw your inspiration from as a band and as artists growing? We’re always looking for new stuff. Whenever we approach writing a new record, we are actively searching for inspiration. We’ll find things and we’ll use them as references. Like we will find a band, say I was listening to a lot of Biffy Clyro when we were writing this record, so I’ll bring that and I’ll play it for everybody. Chris, Nick, Jack, they might find things that they’re stoked on in the moment that they want to try to use elements of or use as inspiration, and they’ll share it with the rest of us. And we kind of try to find a common direction. I feel like it’s easier to create with a reference. Sure, yeah. Bayside have been a band for over 20+ years, which is a remarkable achievement in its own right. What continues to keep you guys motivated as musicians and artists? Well it might sound cliche, but we just love what we do. I think that you spend a lot of time as a band, especially in earlier years as a band, trying to climb the ladder. Trying to “up” everything all the time. Trying to up popularity, whatever it may be: status, money, whatever. We’re really happy with where we are as a band. We’re pretty satisfied, and that really makes it a lot easier to focus on the music, believe it or not. And that’s something that people lose sight of when they’re trying to advance all these other parts of their careers…they forget that it’s the music that is going to advance all those other things. You could be a band for years and years and put out record after record, and it may never connect. And some bands make one great record and shoot to the top. So shedding a lot of that kind of weight makes it easier to focus on just the craft. Who are some of your trusted voices that you either test new music or get feedback from? Is there anyone besides your bandmates? Well, something that I really pay attention to as a songwriter is what somebody who didn’t write the song is going to think of it. That’s an easy trap to fall into when you’re writing songs to fall in love with parts. Or to not recognize that you may hear it a certain way. But you have different contexts. You know, so we’re gonna write for the fans. So I play stuff for my wife. It’s really important to me to bounce things off of people, and I send things to friends. Friends that are in music, friends that are not in music. Shep Goodman, who produced a bunch of Bayside records, I still send him songs all the time to bounce off of him. I send stuff to our agent who’s been our agent for 20 years, and I’ll send stuff to our manager, too.… https://chorus.fm/features/interviews/anthony-raneri-of-bayside-2/

By Small Ruin introducing a brand new studio single: Like Heaven
October 2020 - Bryan Mullis is the mastermind behind By Small Ruin, a unique rock band with a raw, and energetic sound, in the vein of artists such as Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, Dead Rituals, and more.
There are many things that truly stand out about the artist and his music. One of them is most definitely the fact that they are so seamlessly capable of creating some amazingly catchy melodies, but without ever compromising when it comes to the energy of their songs. The band recently released a brand new single titled Like Heaven, which stands out as a perfect representation of what I’m talking about. First off, I tend to really focus on how music sounds being a studio nerd myself. It is safe to say, being familiar with the group and their music I was expecting really high-quality and the bar was set very high from the get-go. It was clear from the very first few seconds that they did not disappoint! This song is every bit as good and intense as anything this group has put out in the past, and then some. Bryan managed to take the sound to a new level of power, with massive walls of guitars and a steady rhythm that matches the intensity of the vocals as well. They say that some of the best music is also about storytelling, and I could not agree more. What makes Like Heaven so special is the fact that the song is about feelings and love, but in such a way that it’s deeply personal and easy to relate to. Bryan came up with a song thinking about how it feels to finally meet that special someone and to experience something deeper than love. When your truly connect with another person you don’t just love them. They literally have the power to transform you. Someone that’s close to your heart can inspire you, can change you and turn you into a much better person. In this case, I particularly love how the intensity of the pop punk driven style of the music really creates a nice contrast with the emotional lyrics. On one side, the song is extremely personal and obviously close to the heart of this talented songwriter. On the other side, this is also the kind of song that you would definitely love to crank up! So, set the volume loud hit play and blast the songs from your speakers and headphones, because this is the kind of tune that’s so enjoyable and kind of irresistible. What’s interesting to me is the fact that Bryan actually has a country music background. He has been a busker for sometime, and this means that he learned how to develop songs by himself, not necessarily relying on a full band in order to achieve a rich and fully formed sound. Now, take all of this background and amazing experience, and translate it into a full band sound, with a steady rhythm and some killer guitar tones. The resulting mix is quite incredible, because By Small Ruin Managed to stay true to his roots and upbringing as a songwriter, meaning that he puts a lot more emphasis on quality lyrics. At the same time, he also knows what it takes to create songs they are very down to earth and immediate. I would not be surprised if fans of artists like blink-182 or Sum 41 would be into this one! Ultimately, this song has a really special approach to production, with a sound that feels clear and sophisticated, yet warm and organic. In addition to the world-class production aesthetics, the song is also lifted up the the artist’s remarkable performer, displaying a very dynamic vocal style that brings energy and vibrancy to the table, seamlessly blurring the lines between different styles and ideas.
Humble, direct, passionate and upfront, this talented artist embodies the qualities that I look for in good music and musicians, so this release is definitely a much welcome addition to my heavy rotation!
Find out more about “By Small Ruin,” and do not miss out on this exciting new studio release.

Song lyrics:
I know I don’t compare
Not in a million years
You are a queen and I’m a pawn
But I want you for my own
It feels like heaven when you’re here
How ’bout sticking around?
And just like heaven, you’re better than I am
You won’t let me fall down
Was living on the edge
Now I hang with you instead
You helped me find that higher law
You broke the cycle and I’m forever grateful because
It feels like heaven when you’re here
How ’bout sticking around?
And just like heaven, you’re better than I am
You won’t let me fall down
The heart you bring to everything
Your light can thaw frozen ground
You made me feel like a king
I woke up wearing a crown
Think back to when we met
And something that you said
You said I could do great things
I started to agree
You got me to believe
It feels like heaven when you’re here
How ’bout sticking around?
And just like heaven, you’re better than I am
You won’t let me fall down
You’re just like heaven

Let’s Analyse The Heck Outta This Playlist
I have listened to every single song in the Game of Thrones: The End Is Here playlist and hooo boy do I have shit to say.
Looking at all the songs, I found that I could seperate them into different categories. The categories were songs which fit certain characters or houses, or songs which fit the white walkers or war in general. There were also quite a few love songs, some of which could be easily interpreted as jonsa. Below the cut I’ve put together all the songs in their categories with some lyrics for each song and any notes I made while listening.
HOWEVER since that shit is loong, I’m gonna add a preemptive TL;DR for some categories of interest before the cut.
JONSA
Overall, there were six songs that I could recognize as jonsa. The themes of these songs were that of a passionate and loving romance, with the occasional tinge of forbidden love and having to wait for their lover. These songs were also very, very blatant in their connection to jonsa. With most of them, jonsa was honest to goodness the only GoT interpretation for this love song. I really was shocked listening to how blatantly jonsa this playlist is guys.
J0NERYS
There were three songs in the playlist which I could call j0nerys songs. One of these songs I could argue belongs elsewhere and only there was one jonsa song that was ambiguous enough that it could be attributed to j0nerys. My absolute favourite song of these three is the song Little Monster by Royal Blood. In this song, a man who refers to himself as a wolf is the lover of someone who he calls Little Monster and betrays her. Yeah. They really went there.
D4NY/TARGARYEN
Three songs that are definitely about her, but I suspect a few of the “general” war songs are about her as well. Why, you say? Because Dark D4ny LIVES in this playlist man. These songs, which are mainly about fire and “black wings” (Drogon, anyone), talk about someone mad with powerlust, a “bitch” coming to take you to hell, and being haunted by demons in the fire. DARK D4NY IS COMING AND MY BODY IS READY FOR HR GLORY
STARK
In contrast to songs about fire being full of madness, the four “wolf” Stark songs that we get are about being free and victorious. One song in particular talks about the “Wolves of Winter” getting the better of someone who has “fits of paranoia”, someone who sees themselves as an exception but without people supporting them, they’re going to lose. Like. Holy shit.
TARGBOWL
Now, most of the other songs are either about the Greyjoys/Lannisters, generic war songs, power or dead things. However there is ONE war song that I think heavily implies targbowl. This song is called Go to War by Nothing More and seems to be about two groups of people who were once on the same side going to war.
That’s it of particular interest, however if you want to see a list of all songs and all categories, plus some lyrics and notes, check out under the cut!
Potential Jonsa Songs
Girl from the North Country – Bob Dylan - If you go when the snowflakes storm/When the rivers freeze and summer ends/Please see if she's wearing a coat so warm/To keep her from the howlin' winds Note: This song is either about Arya or Sansa. I honestly cannot see this song being about Arya, this is about a traditionally feminine girl with long hair. I say this is jonsa because I literally cannot think of any other thing this could be about.
Howlin’ for You – The Black Keys - I must admit/I can't explain/Any of these thoughts/Racing through my brain Note: Can’t explain their reasons (maybe because they shouldn’t be having them), wolf references, bird references? Very jonsa. Also could be general stark or gendrya.
Sister – Prince - My sister never made love to anyone else but me/She's the reason for my, uh, sexuality Note: OMG this SONG. Although this could also be about Jaime/Cercei… but considering that’s over, I’m going with jonerys. Especially since there’s a song about wolves right after…
Devil’s Spoke – Laura Marling -I might be a part of this/Ripple on water from a lonesome drip/A fallen tree that witness me/I'm alone, him and me Note: Honestly the only concrete reason I put this here is because I ship jonsa. It could be any ship. Also the first verse makes me thing of the Winterfell Godswood.
Winterlong – Niel Young - I waited for you Winter long/You seem to be where I belong
Furr – Blitzen Trapper - I brushed the leaves off of my snout/And then I heard my mother shouting through the trees/You should have seen that girl go shaky at the knees/So I took her by the arm
Potential J0nerys Songs
Mama Kin – Aerosmith - Well you've always got your tail on the wag/Shootin' fire from your mouth just like a dragon Note: Those line, plus the whole “Mama” thing makes me think this is jonerys. It could also be jon? I guess?
Little Monster – Royal Blood - I'm your wolf, I'm your man/I say run little monster/Before you know who I am Note: A song about a “wolf” in a relationship with a “little monster” who plans to betray them? HMMMMMMMMMMM.
Be My Fire – The Blue Stones - Baby, be my conjurer/And I'll hold you dear/Baby, be the visions in the night/And wait till morning light for you/To disappear
Dany/Targ Songs:
Sleep Now In the Fire – Rage Against The Machine - The world is my expense/The cost of my desire/Jesus blessed me with its future/And I protect it with fire.
Her Black Wings – Danzig - Demoness calls/The bitch is come/For those who wait/Cross the breach in hell Notes: I’m guessing another Targ song, what with the “black wings”.
Fire – Barns Courtney - Ghosts and devils come a-calling/Calling my name oh, lost in the fire
Stark Songs
Wolf Like Me – TV On The Radio - Got a curse I cannot lift/Shines when the sunset shifts/When the moon is round and full/Gotta bust that box, gotta gut that fish
Wolves of Winter – Biffy Clyro - We are the wolves of winter/We live in a kingdom of blood Note: Holy fuck the implications of Dark!Dany in this song!!!
Dire Wolf – Grateful Dead - In the timbers to Fennario, the wolves are running round/The winter was so hard and cold, froze ten feet 'neath the ground.
Killer Wolf – Danzig - I'm the wolf/I'm the one you want/I'm the killer wolf
Potential Targbowl Songs
Go to War – Nothing More - I don't know what you had in mind/But here we stand on opposing sides/Let's go to war Note: Holy FUCK, this song seems to really foreshadow targbowl. It’s not a generic war song like some of the others, and it’s not about dead/evil/cold wars. This song seems to be about people who were on the same side then turned against each other.
White Walkers/war for the living songs
Immigrant Song – Led Zeppelin - How soft your fields so green/Can whisper tales of gore/Of how we calmed the tides of war/We are your overlords
The End – The Doors - Of our elaborate plans, the end/Of everything that stands, the end/No safety or surprise, the end/I’ll never look into your eyes again
Cold Cold Cold – Cage The Elephant - Doctor look into my eyes/I've been breathing air but there's no sign of life/Doctor the problem's in my chest/My heart feels cold as ice but it's anybody's guess
Burn the Fleet - Thrice - In this dark night we stand or fall/We are kings now, or nothing at all/Check your armor; Light up your torch
Dead Skin Mask – Slayer - Graze the skin with my finger tips/The brush of dead cold flesh pacifies the means
General songs
Seven Nation Army – The White Stripes - Don't want to hear about it/Every single one's got a story to tell/Everyone knows about it/From the Queen of England to the hounds of hell
War – Grandson - War up north/And war down south/Everywhere is war
Let Me Live / Let Me Die – Des Rocs - Tears don't stop the fire/It's killing time/Back from the dead/See your eyes, got nothing left/Kiss me, I am the colder Note: This is a song of ice and fire. This. Is A. Song. Of. Ice. And. Fire.
POWER – Kanye West - Life is a trip, so sometimes we gonna stumble/You gotta go through pain in order to become you Note: I’d call this a general song but this came right after a song about wolves so make of that what you will 😉
Let’s Have A War – Fear - Let's have a war/So you can go and die!
Powa – Tune-Yards - Rebel, rebel, no/Lightening dances in my head
No One Knows – Queens of the Stone Age - We get some rules to follow/That and this/These and those/No one knows
The Time Is Now – Atreyu - Flying high above the world/It's a new life, it's a new mind/And I will never fall Note: A Time for Wolves anyone? Especially since this comes right after a wolf song…
Rise Above – Black Flag - Jealous cowards try to control/Rise above, we're gonna rise above
Alternative Ulster – Stiff Little Fingers - There's nothin' for us in Belfast/The Pound's old, and that's a pity/OK, so there's the Trident in Bangor Note: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The Sickbed of Cuchulainn – The Pogues - And you heard the rattling death trains as you lay there all alone/Frank Ryan bought you whiskey in a brothel in Madrid/And you decked some fucking blackshirt who was cursing all the Yids
Power – AJ Ghent [j-ent] - You wanna take me down/But I won’t bend
Toxicity – System of a Down - You, what do you own the world?/How do you own disorder, disorder
Here’s Your Future – The Thermals - God reached his hand down from the sky/He flooded the land then he set it on fire
Love is Blindess – U2 - A little death/Without mourning/No call/And no warning
Greyjoy Songs
Flugufrelsarinn – Sigur Rós - Ég næ ekki andanum og þyngist við hverja öldu/Mér vantar kraftaverk/Því ég er að drukkna – syndir (I can not breathe and I am heavier with every wave/I need a miracle/Because I am drowning- sins) Note: Lots of talk about the ocean/rivers/boats along with despairing over your sins and struggling to be better and repent. If that isn’t a fucking Theon song I don’t know what is.
Bottom Of The Deep Blue Sea – MISSIO - The sweet surrender of silence forces me to live alone/Locked and loaded, where the hell is peace of mind?/I wait on you inside the bottom of the deep blue sea
Wave of Mutilation – Pixies - You'll think I'm dead, but I sail away/On a wave of mutilation
Jon Songs
Born for Greatness – Papa Roach - No we’re not nameless, we’re not faceless/We were born for greatness Note: This could be generic, but this gives me heavy Jon vibes
EDIT: @ward--runa pointed out to me that this song suited Jon better.
Mother – The Amazons - Friends wanna kill me/But I give them all my loving anyway/If God won't forgive me/I'm not the only one to make amends
Lannister Songs
Listen to the Lion – Van Morrison - All my love come tumblin' down/Oh, listen listen/To the lion
Hot Blood – Kaleo - You wanna prove you're the better man/You wanna reach for the things that nobody can/Oh all you need is to break away, yeah/Just keep telling yourself there's no shame Note: This was either Jaime or Jon for me, but I settled on Jaime. Partly because this came after a string of what I think to be Cersei songs. Also The idea of being a better man, “love is gonna get ya”, “turn your back, you’re a broken man”, “shake your hand”.
Gold Lion – Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Gold lion's gonna tell me where the light is
Cersei Songs
Queen – Perfume Genius - Don't you know your queen/Gleaming/Wrapped in golden leaf/Don't you know me Note: This gives me Cercei vibes but I honestly don’t know…
Cruel – St. Vincent - So they took you, and they left you/How could they be casually cruel? Note: ??? Maybe another Cercei one?
Crown of the Ground – Sleigh Bells - Set, set that crown on the ground and-ah

Oooh exciting! I got tagged by @spideysrogers the babe that is Ellie, here’s a glimpse into my music collection
rules: put your playlist (I used my whole collection lmao) on shuffle and write your favorite lyrics from the first 10 songs
1. HAPPINESS by NEEDTOBREATHE
“There’s a light I see but it’s far in the distance
I’m asking you to show me some forgiveness
It’s all for you in my pursuit of happiness”
2. The Last of The Real Ones by Fall Out Boy
“I am a collapsing star with tunnel vision
But only for you, but only for you”
3. Be Who You Are by You Me At Six
“It won’t always be summer
It might be autumn too
Winter might come join in
But I’ll be next to you”
4. Fireproof by Against The Current
“You were born to run but your poisoned tongue won’t save you
Cause when you play with fire it all goes up in smoke”
5. Hide Away by Daya
“But I’d rather find a boy who is down for the chase
Putting in the time that it takes”
6. Re-arrange by Biffy Clyro (I’d put all of the lyrics here bc this song is beautiful don’t @ me)
“I’ve got a lot of love and I’ve got a lot of ways to show it
But you should know by now that I’m broken and I need your help”
And ofc
“Listen to me when I say, darling you’re my everything
I didn’t mean to hesitate, please stay with me”
7. Sweet Child of Mine by Guns ‘n’ Roses (lmao)
“She’s got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I’d hate to look into those eyes and see an ounce of pain”
8. Make Me Feel by Janelle Monáe
“Should know by the way I use my compression
That you’ve got the answers to my confession”
9. Ban All The Music by Nothing But Thieves
“There’s a buzz in the air, I’ve been told
It’s my affliction
Been sick so long”
10. Feeling This by Blink-182
“Look to the past and remember and smile
And maybe tonight I can breathe for a while”
This is the oddest peak into my music taste lmao I haven’t listened to most of these songs in so long (probably why shuffle brought it up tbh)
Anyone who does it, please take me in it, I’m incredibly interested, but I won’t tag anyone just bc I’m not sure who would be up for it, so go nuts!

2019 in Music - My Top 5 Favourite Albums
5. AURORA – A DIFFERENT KIND OF HUMAN (STEP 2)
After her impressive debut album All My Demons Greeting Me As a Friend, Norwegian singer-songwriter completes its follow-up, an ambitious two-part concept album (opening with last year’s more introspective Infections of a Different Kind (Step1)), with her most impressive record to date, a concise but compelling mixture of electronic-flavoured exoticness and seductive layered vocals. Given that she’s still only 23, this incredibly talented artist has a bright future ahead of her.
Standout tracks: The River, Animal, Daydreamer, Soulless Creatures, In Bottles, A Different Kind of Human, The Seed
4. STARSET – DIVISIONS
The sci-fi obsessed alt-rock band digs deeper into their geeky toy-box on their third album, a blistering succession of edgy, synth-heavy pounders perfectly capturing the album’s theme of a dystopian future in which mankind becomes enslaved by technology. Spiky, thunderous power chords are perfectly offset by Dustin Bates’ deceptively pure voice.
Standout tracks: Manifest, Echo, Where the Skies End, Perfect Machine, Stratosphere, Solstice, Waking Up, Other Worlds Than These, Diving Bell
3. BIFFY CLYRO – BALANCE, NOT SYMMETRY
My very favourite Scottish rock band tried to slip a sneaky little fast one past us this year, but I just managed to catch them on it – while technically a soundtrack album for a movie frontman Simon Neil co-wrote with director Jamie Adams, this is, in every possible way, a true, bona fide Biffy album, the offbeat alt-rock trio having once again crafted a collection of top-notch ear-burners that perfectly encapsulate their endearingly unique sound. True fans will love it.
Standout tracks: Balance Not Symmetry, All Singing and All Dancing, Different Kind of Love, Sunrise, Colour Wheel, Gates of Heaven, Fever Dream, Tunnels and Trees, Plead, The Naturals, Touch, Following Master, Adored
2. CORY WELLS – THE WAY WE ARE
I’ve been following the career of indie singer-songwriter Cory Wells with great interest these past few years, falling increasingly in love with each under-the-radar offering as I waited for his inevitable debut record, and I couldn’t be happier for my patience being so thoroughly rewarded. This is a simply exquisite album about love, loss, grief and hope, a rewardingly stripped-back showcase for Wells’ powerful, devastating lyrics and raw, naked vocal talents.
Standout tracks: Keiko, Wildfire, Broken, Fall Apart, End of a Good Thing, Patience, Walk Away, Lost, Cement
1. TOOL – FEAR INOCULUM
Was there ever any doubt? We’ve been waiting YEARS for this fifth album from one of my favourite bands OF ALL TIME, and now that it’s here it surpasses all expectations, the ridiculously talented quartet delivering what’s arguably their best release to date. So what if the full version (only available digitally) clocks in at a staggering 90 minutes? That means it’s an hour-and-a-half of pure bliss for all true Tool fan, as Maynard and co. blow us away with a hypnotically intricate multi-layered soundscape dominated by some of the most awesome guitar work ever recorded.
Standout tracks: Fear Inoculum, Pneuma, Invincible, Descending, Culling Voices, 7empest
