Fouetté Versus Oversplits
Tumblr media
Gymnastics and ballet has multiple similarities, this is why it is no wonder that a lot of people confuses one with the other when not performed on a theatre or a gym. This is warranted as both sports center on the athlete’s body movements, strength, balance, flexibility and poise all wrapped together in a visually appealing performance. However, despite those similarities, gymnastics and ballet are two different physical activities.
Both ballet and gymnastics are sports that are designed to fool the audiences and make them believe that their sport is easy, when in reality it is not. Struggles shouldn’t be evident in any performance. If a gymnast or a ballerina made you think that what they are performing is easy, then that is one great athlete.
That is one of their few similarities, and here we have listed gymnastics and ballet’s differences.
Types
Gymnastics is a sport with a lot of other variations. It has many disciplines like women’s artistic, men’s artistic, rhythmic, trampoline and tumbling, acrobatic, and group gymnastics. Because of Simone Biles, the new star of USA gymnastics, right now the most famous is artistic gymnastics. This is where athletes perform on various equipment like floor, vault, parallel bars, pommel horse, rings, and balance beam. Rhythmic gymnastics comes in second. It is where a gymnast performs with an apparatus like a ball, clubs, rope, hoop and ribbons.
On the other hand, classical ballet is concentrated on itself. It is a graceful dance performed on tiptoe with many different feet positions, turns, leaps and lifts. As a matter of fact, rhythmic gymnastics is based on this, as they are both about performing with a music accompaniment. Aside from it being a dance, it is also a theatrical art. As one, ballerinas tells stories like “The Nutcracker” or “Swan Lake” through their magnificent movements.
Tumblr media
Physical Strengths
As mentioned above, gymnastics is based on ballet, and it is evident in the similarities of their leaps and turns, but the overall athletics of gymnastics is different because it is a power sport. Gymnasts run and tumble, contorts their bodies, throws their apparatus in the air, and does handstands as some of their necessary skills. As a result of this, they have stronger upper bodies which they use to support themselves.
Meanwhile, a ballerina’s strength is in her feet. Of course, arm and hand positions are important in ballet, but for obvious reasons, the focus is on their legs and toes. All ballerinas begin dancing on their toes in soft shoes. The first skill they are taught is to dance “en pointe,” or on their toes that’s why ballerinas build up enough leg strength and balance for a perfectly executed fouetté turns.
Injuries
Although it doesn’t look like it, gymnastics and ballet are both high-injury activities. Because of intense training and the pressure to be skinny, girls who participate in these sports are at higher risks of developing an eating disorder, loss of menstruation, and even osteoporosis. The most common injuries of a gymnast include the shoulders, lower back, wrists, elbows, knees and ankles. This is because gymnastics stresses the whole body.
On the other hand, ballerinas almost always perform on the ground. This is why their most common injuries relate to the pirouettes and positions they repeat every day, which stresses lower body parts like feet, ankles, hips and knees.
Tumblr media
Mentioned above are just few of the differences between gymnastics and ballet. It is not a debate which is better than the other overall, because one of those two must fit for you, or if you’re lucky, both! It’s just a matter of which is better, between the two, FOR YOU! FIG President Visits Indonesian Gymnasts Amid Asian Games Preparation
Tumblr media
Two weeks ago, the new International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) President, Morinari Watanabe, visited the young gymnasts of Indonesia in the country’s capital, Jakarta.
The visit took place at the main club of the capital, the Gavrila Gymnastics club, which is founded in 2001. They currently houses 800 athletes and 18 coaches in their huge and continuously growing family. Among the athletes is Rifda Irfanaluthfi, who won a silver medal on Floor at the 2015 South East Asian Games and also competed at the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow, United Kingdom.
The FIG President had a heart to heart talk with dozens of the young gymnasts who train at the club and talked about their objectives.
The 18th Asian Games
If we could recall, in 2014, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has announced that Jakarta will host the 18th Asian Games in 2018. So it is safe to say that Watanabe’s visit might just be partly to see how Jakarta is preparing to host the 18th Asian Games. The capital will be the continental sport hot spot next year as they host the said event for the second time since 1962, when they hosted the 4th Asian Games.
Tumblr media
Originally, Vietnam’s capital Hanoi had won the bid to host the next Asian Games in 2019, but they had to withdraw in 2014 because of economic problems. Because of this, on the sidelines of the 17th Asian Games, during the 33rd OCA General Assembly held in Songdo Convensia, Indonesia signed the contract to host the next Asian Games instead. The OCA President, HH Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah, announced that they decided to do the Asian Games in August 18-September 2, 2018 to not clash with the presidential elections in 2019, according to OCA.
The OCA also cited the International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach, saying that the Olympic movement was witnessing a “decade of Asia” in terms of events since South Korea’s Incheon hosted the 17th Asian Games in 2014, Tokyo will host the 2020 Olympics, and South Korea’s Pyeongyang will host the 2018 Winter Olympics. As for the 2022 Winter Olympics, Mr. Bach noted that Asia also has two strong candidates for hosting this—Beijing, China and Almaty, Kazakhstan.
"All this shows the growth and dynamism of sport in Asia," the OCA quoted Mr. Bach.

Why We Should Get Fit While Young
Today, we will discuss the importance of getting fit and healthy while you’re young. Eating healthy and getting in shape at a young age is more than just boosting your attractiveness. Let us provide you a handful of reasons to start your fitness journey right now!
You’ll Develop Healthy Habits
There’s a great deal of truth with the saying that ‘any habits formed during childhood are often carried through their adulthood’. Starting to practice healthy habits like eating healthy, getting enough sleep and exercise, and taking part in physical activities such as gymnastics for kids while you’re young gets you on the right track early on. These types of healthy practices can help you avoid suffering from certain illnesses and diseases like high blood pressure and heart disease in your adulthood.
Tumblr media
Forming good habits while you’re young “will be easier than if you’re trying to develop them when you’re in your 30s, 40s, or 50s,” says John Rowley, a certified personal trainer. “At that point you may have to change your whole life around to implement them. Another reason to adopt healthy habits early on is so you can apply them to other areas of your life. That’s what Arnold Schwarzenegger did. The tools he learned in the gym helped build his movie career, and eventually got him into government.”
Being Physically Fit Leaves Better Impression
We might not always admit it, but most of the time, we judge people based on their looks. Say for example, you see someone with a slumped shoulders and a big tummy. Do you see him as someone who is hardworking and confident? Most likely, no.
Building a leaner and healthier body gets you prepared for the future. Your appearance is the first thing that your potential employer will notice, and having a fit body will make an impression that you’re disciplined, and is able to get the work done.
“Whether you’re in a suit or plumber’s uniform, being lean, fit, and in shape gives off the impression that you’re disciplined, hard-working, and intelligent,” said Rowley “If you’re in your 20s and just getting out of school, it helps your career by telling people that you have the ability to get the job done.”
Being Healthy Makes You More Productive
According to a research published in the journal ‘Physiology & Behavior’, having bad eating habits such as consuming too much sugary and processed foods leads to a lower energy level, leaving the subjects feeling tired and lazy. Also, according to a study published in the journal ‘Population Health Management’, any unhealthy habits outside of work have a direct impact on the employees’ productivity loss.
So, if you want to be successful, whether it be in life or in gymnastics, you need to keep yourself healthy to maintain high levels of energy and focus. Unhealthy habits obviously won’t get you there.
You’ll Develop Higher Levels of Confidence
Eating healthy and exercising regularly has a direct impact on boosting your confidence level. Simply performing basic exercises such as walking or running for 20-30 minutes is enough to reduce stress and anxiety, which will positively impact your mood. Also, being fit and in a good shape makes you more attractive, directly affecting your sense of self-worth.
Tumblr media
“Typically, psychology will follow physiology,” Rowley says. “If you’re not feeling confident, start moving your body in a confident way. And when you’re fit with strong muscles, you move with confidence. Again, it’s about taking the lessons learned inside the gym and using them in other areas of their lives.”
You’ll Learn to Set Goals
As mentioned in our other article, any kind of sport, especially gymnastics, is not something that you can rush. Being an active participant of these kinds of sports teaches you that unless you have superhuman powers, you need to set smaller, attainable goals to be able to effectively reach your goals.
“Those structured goals that you use in the gym where you’re doing something on a regular basis to get a predictable result can be a training routine for life,” he says. “Find habits that are working for others, whether it’s a schedule or training routine, and use them yourself. It’s a very effective way to achieve success.”
Tumblr media
Those are just some of the benefits you can get if you’ll start your fitness journey at an early age. It is never too late to become physically fit! Learn gymnastics for kids with us. Enroll today at Bianka Panova Sport and Art Academy and experience a high quality gymnastics training :)

Eight New Elements Named, Plus Shirai’s Sixth
Tumblr media
There are two ways for an artistic gymnast to become a legend in their beloved sport. They can win major competitions to establish their names, which could potentially die down a few years after they have retired. Or, a gymnast can perform a jaw-dropping original skill that no one has ever done perfectly before and have that skill named after them. This way, the gymnast’s name is immortalized and would live on in the sport even years after they have taken their final bows on the international stage.
On Tuesday, the International Gymnastics Federation Men’s Technical Committee has announced the approval of eight new elements for the Men’s Code of Points that are named after the gymnasts who performed them. All were done successfully at World Cup events that started in late 2016 until early 2017.
Included in this list is a vault skill named after the Rio Olympic team gold medalist Kenzo Shirai, who is expected to follow after his teammate’s footsteps, Kohei Uchimura—who, unluckily, is still the only one in his team who haven’t had any skill named after him despite hoping to make it happen leading up to the Tokyo Olympics.
Uchimura didn’t call Shirai as “Japan’s next ace” for no reason. The 20-year-old’s new namesake vault called the “The Shirai 3” was his sixth one. He now has three on vault and three on floor exercise, making him the male gymnast with the most number of skills named after him. The latest skill had an element value of 5.4 for its high degree of difficulty. It is based on a vault once performed by six-time Olympic gold medalist Vitali Scherbo, but added with a double twist. Shirai is the first one to pull it off at the 2017 Melbourne World Cup last February.
Another new skill named after a Japanese man was “The Goshima”, named after Takahiro Goshima who performed the skill in floor exercise competition in 2017 DTB-Pokal Team Challenge. Despite being a newcomer to senior international competition on the Japanese team, Goshima successfully did the forward somersault in layout position with three and a half twists. The skill basically adds a half twist to the “The Shirai 2,” earning a difficulty upgrade from F to G.
Tumblr media
The third skill on the list was named after the 2015 World bronze medalist and European Games champion on floor exercise, Rayderley Zapata from Spain, who is known for his powerful tumbling. His first skill called “The Zapata” was one he performed at the 2016 Cottbus World Cup floor exercise, a double salto forward tucked with 1.5 twists. It has an element value of F.
Saeedreza Keihkha from Iran also had a new pommel horse skill named after him. This is the first for all Iranians and was called “The Keikha” which is a side support full twisting spindle with both pommels between the hands, either flair or circle, performed at the 2017 Baku World Cup. Its element value is also F.
The latest still rings skill is named after the resident strongman of the Turkish team, Ibrahim Colak, who also performed it at the 2017 Melbourne World Cup. It is a vertical pull up with straight arms to V-cross and has an element value of E.
On parallel bars, Adam Babos from Hungary have successfully performed a skill at the 2016 Szombathely World Challenge Cup and this is now named after him. It was a straddle cut backward directly to hand and has an element value of C. At the same competition and apparatus, another skill has been approved, called “The Gagnon” which is named after Joel Gagnon from Canada. This is a basket roll backwards with stuck salto half to upper arm hang. Element value is also a C.
At the 2017 Doha World Cup, the 2016 Swiss Olympian Christian Baumann has performed a giant swing backward with Makuts in parallel bars, which is now the first skill named after him.

Spain Excited For Grand Prix Marbella 2017
Tumblr media
On March 31st the next leg of the Grand Prix series is going to be held in Marbella, Spain at the city’s Polideportivo San Pedro Alcantara and would last until the 2nd of April. Aside from Grand Prix Marbella 2017, the organizers will also hold two international cups for junior and prejunior called Andalusia Cup and Cup Marbella.
One day before the set schedule, the invited world-class rhythmic gymnasts are expected to arrive. On the morning of the first day is the podium training for the junior and pre-junior cup and on the afternoon is the podium training for the Grand Prix. Saturday signals the beginning of the competition and the Sunday was set for the finals and closing ceremony.
According to the organizer’s Facebook page, the confirmed gymnasts who would attend the competition are Ukrainians Olena Diachenko, Viktoria Mazur and Rio Olympics bronze medalist Ganna Rizatdinova. Rizatdinova’s presence might still be forfeited because of her injury on the foot, which caused her withdrawal from the Grand Prix Kiev and Thiais.
The Russians also sent their bests. There is Aleksandra Soldatova who appeared to be the crowd favorite according to the organizers’ survey, and who is also the face on the poster of the event. Dina Averina, who is so far the best in all of the Grand Prix competitions that has already been held this year, is of course present to represent her country, along with Polina Khonina.
Although not as famous as Soldatova and the Averina twins, Yulia Bravikova is also present to showcase her strength in her exercises with magnificent and spectacular bodily conditions that made her look like the Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation’s President, Irina Viner-Usmanova on the ribbon exercise at the Grand Prix in Moscow.
Leading the Bulgarian team is Neviana Vladinova who finished seventh at the Rio Olympics last summer. Tagging along with her and confirmed at the last hour was teammate Katrin Taseva. To compete with them is the Spanish team’s Natalia Garcia and Sara Llana, Belarus team’s Katsiaryna Halkina and Alina Harnasko, Kazakhstan’s Sabina Ashirbayeva, USA’s Lili Mizuno, Estonia’s Carmel Kallemaa, and finally Israel’s Victoria Filanovsky who dominated the Baltic Hoop early this month.
According to the organizers, Grand Prix is one of the most important events that will take place in Marbella this year. Thousands of people are expected to come and support their favorite gymnasts in the city that hosts one of the best rhythmic gymnastics training centers in the country. The gymnasts are attending to try out their routines before the World and European Championships in the coming months, so the organizers really had to make the event as perfect as possible and without any loose ends. They promise the audience an enjoyable and great competition here.

2017 Grand Prix in Thiais, All Set Up For The Weekend
The third stop of this year’s Grand Prix Series is going to be held in Thiais, France on March 25 to 26. This is the 31st Thiais International rhythmic gymnastics competition and according to the organizers’ first newsletter about the event, twenty-six gymnasts from more than twelve different countries are expected to compete at the Palais Omnisports.
The gymnasts expected to compete are the champions from the previous Grand Prix in Moscow last month, Russians Dina Averina, Arina Averina, Aleksandra Soldatova, and  22nd Deriugina Cup—also known as Grand Prix in Kiev—silver medalist Yulia Bravikova. According to the newsletter, the Deriugina Cup All-Around champion Polina Khonina is not expected to be attending this event, although the set list of gymnasts is still subject to change.
Tumblr media
The talented gymnasts who would try to dethrone the Russians are Austrian Nicol Ruprecht, Azarbaijani Marina Durunda, Belarusians Katsiaryna Halkina and Alina Harnasko. Spain has sent two of their bests to beat the current bests—Polina Berezina and Sara Llana. Of course, the host country wouldn’t be left behind as they sent Kseniya Moustafaeva and Axelle Jovenin to represent their country. Israel sent two as well, Linoy Ashram and Nicol Zelikman, to bring pride to their motherland.
Aside from those already mentioned, other countries assigned one gymnast to represent them as well. Japan has Kaho Minagawa, Bulgaria has Erika Zafirova, Finland has Jouki Tikkanen, Kazakhstan has Anna Afuxenidi, Uzbekistan has Anastasiya Serdyuokova, Czech Republic has Anna Sebkova and another one still unannounced. The host’s neighboring country, Italy, has Alessia Russo, while USA has Camilla Feeley. Ukraine assigned Olena Diachenko, Viktoria Mazur and Anna Rizatdinova. The latter was on the initial list, although it is still unknown whether she could compete this time or not, as she sustained an injury in the Grand Prix in Kiev.
The gymnasts invited to participate in the qualifications will present the exercise according to this program—hoop, ball, clubs, and ribbon. Only the first eight gymnasts per apparatus will advance to the finals on Sunday afternoon.
For those who cannot attend personally, there will be a live broadcast for Saturday (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDPJ3xnoUMk) and Sunday (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B74i5N9xxJw).

Baku Now Geared For the 2017 FIG World Cup
Tumblr media
Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan and the organizer of many grandiose sports events, is now prepared to host the next exciting competition in the world of gymnastics—the 2017 FIG Artistic Gymnastics Individual Apparatus World Cup, or simply FIG World Cup in Baku—to be held on March 16 to 19.
Baku has held many significant and unforgettable competitions in the past few years, and this time their National Gymnastics Arena will once again be the venue for the 2017 FIG World Cup as its second time in the sporting history of the nation. In total, twenty-three countries are expected to join the Cup with 85 men and 35 women, all of which has gone through the accreditation on March 14.
The successfully-accredited teams so far was Azerbaijan, Australia, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Israel, Uzbekistan, China, Japan, Ireland, Slovenia, Ukraine, Finland and Hungary. The first two days of the competition will be the qualifications as each of the mentioned countries try to eliminate each other, followed by another two days of the much awaited Apparatus Finals where the men will compete for six sets of medals while the women will define the winners in four apparatus in line with the Code of Points for the new Olympic cycle that started this year.
Tumblr media
2017 FIG World Cup Participants
Ever since 2015, organization of the World Cup series in all Olympic gymnastics disciplines has already become a tradition in Baku. Because of this, the development of gymnastics was motivated and the fans of the sport have increased throughout the country, which is their main goal.
The organizers surely made sure that the spectators would get what they came for, and this year the competition would feature the strength, elegance and persistence of well-known artistic gymnasts—which includes Olympic Champions Eleftherios Petrounias from Greece and Kisztian Berki from Hungary. Silver medalist of the Olympics is also present, Croatia’s Filip Ude, like the European Champion Alexander Shatilov from Israel who is also going to showcase his talents.
Of course, if the men’s division has big names, the women’s division has as well. There is the three-time Olympic Champion Catalina Ponor from Romania and the gold medalist from the Olympics as well, Oksana Chusovitina from Uzbekistan.
The host country wouldn’t be left behind as they prepared their best athletes for this event, namely Murad Agharzayev and Bence Talas for the men’s, and uliya Inshina, Marina Nekrasova, Mariia Smirnova and Ekaterina Tishkova for the women.
Azerbaijan has quite a lot of representatives, as compared to Japan’s three representative athletes. However, the number of athletes per team doesn’t seem to be important to these teams, as according to the Chinese team’s coach, Shouwen Hu, even though they only brought five athletes with them, “We believe they are capable to win in their types [of gymnastics]. This is a new Olympic cycle and we prepare athletes for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.”
Even the newly adjusted Code of Points doesn’t seem to bother these teams. According to the Ukraine team’s delegation head, Oksana Slyusarchuk, “The Code of Points hasn’t changed much, although there are many nuances that will slightly affect the basic assessments, but the rules change every four years, so everyone works in the same way.”

Whitlock On Hiatus, Misses iPro World Cup In London
Tumblr media
Max Whitlock, who won gold in Rio Olympics last summer in both the floor routine and the pommel horse, and a bronze in the all-around competition, has announced that he would take a six-month break from competitive artistic gymnastics.
According to his statements, he has spent time making sure it was the right decision and he knows 100% that it was. “After the Rio Olympics, I did not want to force getting back in the gym. I had three months off which is unheard of for me. I was spending my time going to see the people who had supported me, and I was really, really busy,” he added.
In further explanation, the twenty-four-year-old said that he didn’t feel like rushing back into routines and that even if he started training the day after the Olympics, he would not have enough time to get the new skills that he want when he comes back. He added that he also wanted to make sure he was fully recovered because if he was not and he participated in competition after competition after competition, it would not be a good thing for him as it would burn him out.
Whitlock, who has won two bronze medals in the London Games aside from his Rio triumphs, has become Great Britain’s first ever Olympic gymnastics champion. He has had his share of the spotlight as well. After Rio, he was nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, performed for the Prince of Wales and was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire by the Queen.
Even if he is currently on a hiatus, Whitlock cleared that he never thought about retiring from the sport and he wants to, in fact, continue for two more Olympics. He said that his two gold medals are his massive motivation for him to move forward and try to retain his titles. This is what he is working towards right now, gearing up to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. But first, he was expected to return to action for the World Championships in Canada this autumn.
Tumblr media
The iPro World Cup of Gymnastics in London
Due to his hiatus, Whitlock would be absent from the European Championships in Romania and the iPro World Cup of Gymnastics in London’s 02 Arena next month. In his stead, British Gymnastics has called on to their Olympians to represent the country in the latter competition. For the men’s, the 2012 Olympic team bronze medalist Sam Oldham and 2016 Olympic standout Brinn Evan will compete. For the women’s, Rio floor bronze medalist Amy Tinkler and another 2016 standout Ellie Downie will compete.
The iPro World Cup of Gymnastics is coming back to London as one of the most spectacular and popular events in the world of gymnastics, and the local gymnasts are pumped up for this event. Amy Tinkler was recorded to say that, “I’m so excited to compete in London, in front of such a massive crowd. I love the atmosphere of a big crowd and to know that pretty much everyone is supporting me is a huge motivation and I know will definitely boost my performance. The O2 is an iconic venue and it’s an incredible honor to be competing in there.”
Brinn Evan also stated that, “It’s always a huge achievement to be called up to the big stage for your country. I’ve had a bit of break since the amazing experience of Rio 2016 Olympic Games and can’t wait to get back into action. This World Cup is going to be at another level, the best arena in the world with the best crowd and some new ideas and innovations that will be great for gymnastics.”
Team GB’s stars are set to compete against the following:
Men:
Switzerland: Eddy Yusof China: Luo Jianlin Germany: Lukas Dauser Russia: Alexey Rostov Ukraine: Oleg Vernaiev USA: Donnell Whittenburg
Women:
China: Liu Jinru Germany: Tabea Alt Netherlands: Tisha Volleman Russia: Angelina Melnikova USA: Jordan Chiles

Sports Isn’t Just For Physical Health
Tablets, computers, smartphones, and gaming consoles — these are the things that take up most of the time and attention of today’s young generation. In today’s age, these kinds of technologies are the children’s main source of entertainment. While there is nothing wrong with using them as a source of pleasure and amusement, too much exposure to these things could have a negative impact on their health.
Despite the technological advancement that our world is experiencing today, we should not let these things take over the lives of the young children. Kids, by nature, are naturally playful and energetic individuals, and it is not healthy for them to lie down in the couch and play video games all day. That is why, as a parent, you should consider introducing them to sports and physical activities such as gymnastics at an early age. Doing so could help them pick up the sport early on, which is critically important, as any habits formed during childhood are often carried by the kid through their adulthood.
Tumblr media
You might wonder why many health enthusiasts always insist that children should go out and play outdoors. Well, aside from bringing fun and joy to them, participating in sports and physical activities also does offer a wide range of positive effects on young children.
Positive Impact on Children’s Health
Young people who take part in outdoor activities and sports such as gymnastics for kids enjoy a better overall health compared to those who chose to spend their free time playing video games. According to the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, active children experiences a lot of positive health benefits such as lower risks of high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and even cancer.
Aside from that, physically active kids often have a better food preference compared to their sedentary counterparts, which further boosts their overall health and well-being.
Positive Impact on Mood and Mental Health
Aside from the physical health benefits, children who engage in sports and physical activities also experience a number of positive effects on their mental health. Active kids who participate in outdoor activities have a lower risk of stress and depression, and also possess a better mental clarity and cognitive function as opposed to those who are inactive. According to most studies, any form of exercise and physical activity triggers the release of endorphins in the brain, which positively boosts the mood and mental health of the children.
Positive Impact on Self-Esteem
It is proven that physical activity and sport greatly helps in improving the child’s self-confidence. Sports may affect an individual’s self-esteem in many different ways, but most commonly, it makes a person feel better about their own self. Physically active individuals generally appear physically fitter and more attractive compared to their inactive counterparts, which gives them a better sense of self-appreciation and self-worth.
Aside from that, accomplishing something from the sport of their choice (for example; being able to perform a new gymnastics skill) boosts their confidence in their own capabilities, further boosting their self-esteem.
Positive Impact on Social Skills
Sports can also positively impact the social skills of young children. Kids who participate in sports, especially team sports, enables them to be exposed in a socially engaging environment, allowing them to further develop their social and communication skills.
Tumblr media
Also, children who participate in group sports could develop numerous positive traits such as being a good leader, an excellent team player, and they will also learn to follow rules and manage conflicts.

CHN and JPN Neck-To-Neck On 2017 Melbourne Individual Apparatus World Cup
On February 25, 2017, the first Individual Apparatus World Cup of 2017 in Artistic Gymnastics has concluded. It started on February 22, 2017 in Melbourne (AUS) as a part of the International Gymnastics Federation’s (FIG) ongoing World Cup series.
Olympic veterans and standout newcomers have shown off their skills to be able to stand at the podium at Australia’s Hisense Arena. Listed below are the top three winners for each apparatus.

Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Results
In the said event, China has started establishing their dominance in artistic gymnastics once again, after having been defeated in the last Olympic Games. Chinese gymnasts tumbled off with three of the five event titles awarded on the first day. On the finals, the Chinese men bagged a silver on floor from the newcomer Mu Jile, another silver and a bronze on pommel horse from Zou Jingyuan and Weng Hao respectively. The gold from still rings has been snatched by Wu Guanhua and Zou Jingyuan who tied at the first place despite being both newcomers, the latter also took home the gold in parallel bars. Unfortunately, they didn’t place any on the top three for vault and high bar.
However, China’s greatest opponent, Japan, is close on their heels. Olympian and two-time Floor World Champion Kenzo Shirai has put down his team gold medal from the Rio Olympics to be able to hold his new medals. He snatched the gold in floor, high bar and vault, finishing with a silver on parallel bars. His teammate Wataru Tanigawa bagged the bronze in vault while Yusuke Saito was awarded the same at high bar.
Although considered underdogs, other countries also had the spotlights shine on them. Turkey won quite a few to represent their country. Ferhat Arican won the bronze on floor and parallel bars while Ibrahim Colak got bronze as well on still rings. The host country, Australia, got two silver medals from Christopher Remkes at the vault and Mitchell Morgans on high bar. Hungary took home the gold on the pommel horse which was won by the veteran Krisztian Berki, once again proving his supremacy on the apparatus after being the 2012 Olympic Pommel Horse champion and not being able to compete in Rio.

Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Results
The Chinese men’s counterparts aren’t as lucky as they are if based on the medal counts, but their country didn’t lack on podium moments in this series. The female Chinese gymnasts bagged just five medals in total throughout the whole event. The gold on vault was snatched by Olympic team member Wang Yan. Liu Tingting and Huan Luo received their gold and silver medals at the podium responsively from uneven bars. Liu, a sixteen-year-old who passed on Rio due to injuries, returned with a vengeance. She also took home the gold in beam and the bronze in floor.
Australian female gymnasts took revenge for their male gymnasts as they accumulated six medals amongst places first to third. 2012 Olympian Emily Little took home the silver in vault and newcomer teammate Naomi Lee took the bronze. Little also has a bronze in beam and a gold in floor, leaving teammate Georgia Godwin for silver. Another teammate and standout Riana Mizzen was the only Australian medalist in uneven bars, a bronze.

The Melbourne World Cup is a part of the two-year FIG Individual Apparatus World Cup series. It began in November 2016 and would end in March 2018. Gymnasts gain points from each stop and the gymnast with the highest points in total at the end of the circuit is crowned World Cup champion on that event. The Secret To Boosting Athletic Performance
Tumblr media
Sports conditioning provides the gymnast a competitive edge over other athletes. The purpose of taking part in a sports conditioning activity is to give a boost to your body’s athletic performance.
Compared to general fitness training, participating in a sports conditioning activity is often more tough and challenging. In addition, stretching exercises are also included to enhance one’s flexibility and range of motion.
Most gymnasts are continuously seeking a competitive edge against other athletes in hopes of winning the competition. The traditional fitness training is good to help people look aesthetically good and to attain basic fitness goals like weight loss, strength gain, cardiovascular endurance, and better flexibility. These exercises are great for normal individuals, but for athletes, a more sport-oriented training program is needed to improve athletic performance. The only way to achieve peak performance is to have a well-planned fitness goals. The conditioning program should be directly related to the demands of training and the sport itself. The goal should address not only the present, but also the future goals of an athlete. The intensity and duration of the training program should consider the athlete’s physical needs and their goals after a careful evaluation, the length of time required to achieve certain goals, and the amount of hours an athlete can allot to the conditioning program every week.

Sports conditioning is a year-round commitment for most athletes. Usually, it comprises of four training seasons per year: pre-season, in-season, post-season, and off-season. The most significant aspects of sports conditioning is to form a good fitness base. Once the athlete achieves high levels of physical fitness, they can move on to a more complex and more sport-specific exercises.
