Queer Character Disclaimer

-Status Quo-

Okay so, because I am NOT a queer baiter, I’m going to be completely clear about my queer rep in my book series, Status Quo.

Book one has two explicitly queer characters, one bisexual and one raging lesbian. I probably won't call them that directly just because it's not necessary, it’s a plot point that they dated and I certainly won't be watering it down. Idk something about directly labelling a character feels like bad writing, ‘show don't tell’ as they say.

That being said, there is no onscreen queer romance IN THIS BOOK. Book 2 on the other hand completely revolves around a lesbian romance and book 3 will probably include some nonbinary/ace romance and a gay boy gaying his ass off.

On the topic of gay men, I am a girl. I have never been a man, and certainly not a gay one. At this stage, I might keep the gay men as more of a side plot because I don't think I can do it justice. But that's also years away so who knows? Maybe I'll be a gay man by then.

Representation is a big deal to me, as is not being boring, so trust that this book is overflowing with the most woke character lineup since Steven Universe. The first book is just unfortunately set in a homophobic cult so my options are limited.

amazing charater, 12/10 charater, my brainrot catalyst for almost a near decade.

she has a full list of female ship option for her (even if i think most of her popular ones are mid to bad but that's a rant to get cancelled for another day #justice4wallflower)

but she literally has one motherfucker on the male side and it's boring motherfucker.

this is fucking tragic, a war crime, a fucking disappointment unpairalied. at least scitwi has timber too so she has that but damn they did sunset dirty in this respect.

you have to basicly make a new characters to make him any more interesting the saltine with salt scraped off.

and we could say luz from owl house also falls into this category cuz she had hunter...for like a little while as a viable option till they got more fleshed out and he became unviable and she had nobody after.

I know this isn't, like, anywhere near their ACTUAL plotline story, cuz I've never introduced these bitches anywhere outside of Artfight (here are the links btw - for Derres and Kee), but I was. REALLY in the mood to draw something more ✨️risqué✨️ than usual, so here we are. This is completely canon btw. Because I said so. It just happens far into the imaginary timeline

(Fun fact: I started drawing this on the same day I finished the Woland drawing. It got finished next day, roughly in the same time as that one, a.k.a. 3 hours. I am speed)

There isn't any symbolism in the colors, I just picked them because they were pretty, and I was super inspired by a Webtoon Stick n Poke, which I LOVE for many reasons, but in this case, the art direction. Monochrome color schemes are very cool to use, because, for example, it makes the full color all the more impactful, and the colors themselves can convey a specific emotion! Weow! Art is awesome! But we're not doing that here GHXVNGXVNGX it's just lighting that I think is appropriate for each situation and helps them be differentiated from one another, so that you'd know that it's. Not just one night they had, no, it's not even a pattern by this point, and it'd be very clowish to use that word. In a bad way

Idk what else to say, uhhh... Kee is gay. In all the ways. He's had 14 boyfriends. The longest one lasted 5 years. The last one (different one) cheated on him, so that sucks. Made him steer from romance for a while. The explosion didn't help either, like, damn, dude can't catch a break

Derres is bisexual, because bisexual men are cool and awesome. He's also aromantic and doesn't really realise that! He's got his own trust issues and trauma to go through. Uh. He's never dated anyone before. Or ever been in a relationship that isn't strictly familial or platonic. Yeah

But this comparison got me thinking: If Harumi is Gwen Stacy for Hanzo's Peter Parker then...

When will Harumi get the Spider Gwen treatment?

Where's that watercolour reality where Harumi became Scorpion instead of Hanzo? Where she became the hero instead of fall in love with the hero?

Where is that bittersweet but love felt story where Scorpion!Harumi loses her Hanzo but then years later she meets with an Alt version of Scorpion!Hanzo (who obviously lost his Harumi) and they get to talk about their grief and guilt towards the other's death.

They talk about how they still think they are to blame for the other's death, how they took responsibility for these tragedies even though they were beyond their control.

"It was not your fault. Or your responsibility." They will tell each other "you did all you could, you don't deserve to keep on suffering any longer." They will say these kind words to one another, kind words they never managed to tell themselves. It is always easy to forgive others than too forgive yourself.

Then they will make an agreement, he will have her back and she will have his, they will protect each other the way they always hoped to.

And together they will heal and move on.

Okay, but everyone keeps saying "Poor Honzo", "He can't catch a break" and I'm sitting over here like "Poor Harumi". Because she gets killed mercilessly in every damn thing she's in. She could just be sitting there, existing, and the writers just go "Not today bitch". Who the hell did she piss off so much that they want her dead in every excruciating way possible. In Scorpion's invasion cutscene, they literally made the most cruel and sadistic ways to kill her. Like, when will it end? lol

My headcannons for the smiling friends (+more charaters) sexualities + genders

Pim is a cisgender male who is pansexual. He kisses everybody, including Desmond, the bird, I think he kissed Charlie but I'm not sure, and that weird egg. I don't think he would care which gender he's kissing.

Charlie is a cisgender male who is bisexual. He's been with his current girlfriend and had sexual tension with Mip, so maybe he could be bi-curious? But he's probably more attracted to fem presenting people. (Sorry charpim shippers)

Alan is bigender and aroace. Even though it's implied he had intercourse/sexual/romantic relations with that girl in his bed, I still feel it may be appropriate to call her aroace since it seems like he has minimal attraction, sexual or romantic. Also, I've heard some people call her "she", but I've also heard "he" as well, and in the show. So I'm just going to assume bigender for now.

Glep is green and a straight ally. If he did have queer coworkers, I don't think he would care. I mean, he's literally a green thing 1000+ years old. He's old enough to know better.

Mr. Boss is a trans male and pansexual/queer. I have no idea how to explain it, it's just a feeling. A vibe.

Zoey is a cisgender woman and a straight ally. Again, just based on vibes.

Mip is a cisgender male and bisexual. He liked the princess (?) And had sexual tension with Charlie.

Dj spit is a cisgender male who is straight.

Grim is a cisgender male who is gay.

Gnarly is a transgender male who is gay.
