Collins III, 23, dead. He had recently been commissioned a Military Intelligence Officer via the Bowie State ROTC program and was to graduate this Tuesday. Sean Christopher Urbanski, of Severna Park, MD also a University of Maryland student, killed him as Collins was waiting for an Uber ride early Saturday morning with friends. Collins had been visiting the College Park campus when the incident occurred, and authorities said surveillance cameras captured the attack. Police said Collins was with two friends, waiting for an Uber along Regents Drive near Montgomery Hall about 3 a.m. U-Md. Police Chief David B. Mitchell said Collins and his friends watched as Urbanski approached the group. Urbanski said “step left, step left if you know what’s best for you.” Collins said “no.” Urbanski attacked. Collins was stabbed in the chest. He died at a hospital. Urbanski fled but was arrested a short time later by Prince George’s County police, Mitchell said. The victim’s friends identified Urbanski as the attacker. Police said they recovered a folding knife. They said Urbanski, who lives off campus nearby, had been drinking and it is still to be determined if he was under the influence of any other drugs. Police sources said that Urbanski, 22, was involved in racist social media forums and had been drinking earlier in the evening. Gun Groups for New (or old) Shooters

All the talk recently about people wanting to learn to defend themselves inspired this - a list of specialized groups/clubs in the US to learn to shoot, or shoot with other people. This isn’t a full list, as there are likely a lot of smaller groups that would have to be located locally.  The Black Gun Owners Association (BGOA) The Liberal Gun Club Second Amendment Sisters (NOTE: Defunct nationally but local chapters still exist) Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO) Pink Pistols (LGBT+ club) The Truth About Guns - While not an organization, they do have some excellent resources for first-time shooters, as well as exhaustive articles and fact sheets about guns, gun violence, and everything in between. Alternatively, if none of the above work for you (though many are very inclusive), check out your local ranges. Many, MANY ranges have classes for beginners, and will walk you through rentals, proper handling and firing, gun care, and everything else you need to know. Any range worth their salt will be happy to help.
