Grateful For You

Pairing: Gale x Athalia

Warnings: Suggestive, fluff, maybe a bit of spice?, takes place a year after the game ends, they are married, a little bit of silliness, typos probably, I think that’s it!

Summary: Gale has a surprise for his beautiful wife.

A/n: *cracks knuckles.* I’ve been summoned. MOONWEAVE LETS GOOO!! I may have went overboard.

The door to the door clicked shut behind Athalia as she stepped into the place she called home. It had been a year since the defeat of the Neather Brain. Almost a year since Gale purposed, their anniversary was coming up in a few months. The past deemed like a distant dream, the present felt like a fantasy, and the future seemed endless. All because of him. Gale Dekarios the wizard of intentionally limited renown, her husband. Speaking do which…. Where is he? Usually he is right at the door ready to greet Athalia after she returs from her cleric duties at the temple. The silence that greeted the young woman was certainly new…

“My love!”

She called out, but the echo of her voice was the only response. Her brows furrowed as she quickly ascended the steps of the tower, wondering if Gale had gotten wrapped up in his studies again. But when Athalia pushed open the door, she was met with an empty room. Candles sitting on the desk that flickered with a purple light, no doubt magic from her beloved wizard. The cleric smiled softly and padded into the room, the heels of her boots clicking against floor as she approached his desk. On the flat surface of the wood she found a simple note;

My brightest moonlight,

I apologize for not being here when you returned home, but I have a surprise for you. So I don’t spoil anything, I will my letter short. Please, change into something more comfortable, and just as beautiful as you. I will be waiting, my beautiful wife.

Athalia felt her heart skip a beat, a smile instantly forming across her lips she felt all giddy again, like how she did when they were connected by the weave. She could already feel her cheeks burning with blush. Before she could let her mind wander too far with the possibilities of tonight, a familiar voice echoed the otherwise quiet room;

“Good evening, dearest! I’m here on behalf of Gale Dekarios, your charming and devilishly handsome husband!”

Turning around she was met with the sight of Gale’s mirror image, a goofy smile on his face as his purple glow light up the room. Athalia was instantly nostalgic, remembering the night the verbose wizard confessed his feelings to her, sending his mirror image to act as usher. She chuckled softly, making not-quite-Gale smile to himself.

“Are you here to act as usher again?”

Athalia questioned her tone laced with amusement, making the mirror image smirk. He shrugged and gave a curtly nod, his hand gesturing out towards the door as he bowed at the waist.

“Usher and personal stylist.”

She quirked a brow at that. Personal stylist? What does that mean? Not-quite-Gale noticed Athalia’s confusion, straightening up with a smile he explained further;

“Gale’s surprise had a strict dress code, I am here to help you pick the best outfit for your date!”

The cleric laughed fondly, rolling her eyes as she strolled out of her husband’s study. Heading towards their shared bedroom with Gale’s mirror image right on her heels, strutting proudly with his chest puffed out. This was also so silly, so romantic, so Gale. It was perfect already.

After playing dress to impress with Gale’s mirror image, he guided Athalia down the tower steps and to the docks of Waterdeep. As they walked she looked up to see the colorful blues, greens, and purples of the aurora borealis stretching across the sky. A few citizens noticed the change in the sky, whispering and pointing up the breathtaking view. Women, men, children, couples, and elderly. Everybody was mesmerized, but the not-quite-Gale kept her attention on him. Weaving between the people of Waterdeep until you came to where the real Gale was waiting for his beloved wife.

A blanket was sat at the edge of the dock, a basket of food and glasses of wine waiting on plush, purple blanket. Gale was on his feet the minute his saw Athalia, waving his hand to dismiss his mirror image. His arms outstretched to welcome his cleric into a warm embrace.

“How I missed you, my love.”

Gale hummed sweetly, hugging her close to his chest as he nuzzled his nose into her blonde hair. He inhaled her scent, a deep rumble in his chest as he felt Athalia bury her face between his pecks with a fond laugh. She pulled away for a moment, hands wandering across the wizard’s chest and up to his broad shoulders.

“What is this all about?”

Athalia questioned, but Gale was too distracted adding her beauty. Taking her hand, he spun her in a small circle, brown eyes drinking in her form. The dress she picked was absolutely beautiful, it flattered her body perfectly. Part of him wanted to forget his current plans and worship her here and now, but he forced hairdo to behave. The giggles of Athalia was music to his ears, pulling her down to sit with him on the blanket. All her favorite foods were there waiting for her, fruity and sweet wine that Gale had been saving for a special moment.

While she waited for an answer from her husband, he merely chuckled and dragged out the silence. Wiggling his eyebrows at her as he took a slow, long sip of the rich wine. Athalia rolled her eyes, shaking her head in faux annoyance.

“One year ago today we sat under a sky like this… and I confessed my feelings for you.”

Gale began his voice soft as he sat the glass down, her eyes roaming across the set up he prepared for his wife. His brown eyes meeting her blue ones, he looked at her like she was the most perfect thing in the world. His eyes sparkled with adoration and devotion, one of his hands slid one to rest above hers. Athalia smiled back at him, lacing her fingers with his as her heart fluttered in her chest from his sweet words.

“You changed me for the better, Athalia.”

The wizard continued, scooting closer to his wife. Brushing his nose against her’s in an affectionate manner, eyes briefly flickering down to her lips. Gale leaned a bit closer, his breathing ghosting over her lips as a teasing smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

“And I will forever be grateful to call you my wife.”

With that sweet whisper Athalia couldn’t take it anymore, her lips crashed against his. Gale wrapped his arms tightly around the blonde woman, pushing her to lay back against the blanket. The food, the wine, all forgotten as hands roamed, exploring the other’s body. All that mattered was her and now.

ATHALIA HEADCANONS

⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ THE CAMP ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆

• The first thing Athalia definitely do when they set the camp for resting of the night, is to check everyone is ok

• She'll use every drop of her mana to heal anyone in need. And if she runs out of spells, she use her medicine skill to help. After all, she's a healer cleric, and she can heal also without magic

• If she is tired, maybe she'll search for some quiet in her tend, or by the river. In silence, she can prey better

• She loves the moon, the stars and the water. These things remind her of her Mother Selúne. If there were a full Moon, or a beautiful night sky, she'll be up late to watch it and talk to her goddess. I immagine her watching in silence the moon, with a soft smile on her face, praying and telling Selúne how was her day and how she's scared of what is happening to her

• She loves reading and writing poetries and stories. When she was a young lady, she read a lot of romantic novels, and she grew up with this poetical idea of love, dreaming about the true love like a princess

(that idea has a name and his name is Gale)

• If there is someone in the camp who can't sleep, Athalia has some tricks and spells to help, as a Selúne Cleric. Everyone know this but they're always too embarrassed to ask

• Athalia has a lot of cute outfits for the camp, as a remind of her noble life. She loves the workmanship of good clothes, fine fabric, matching shoes.

And the color white and blue, she always dresses in those colors

⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ THE BATTLEFIELD ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆

• Athalia always tries to avoid confrontation. She tries to reason with his opponents, especially when he sees that behind their wickedness there is something else that can be repaired. The first thing she did with Kethric was to remind him of Selúne's love to make him see reason.

• Whenever they face sentient creatures such as mundane criminals or the Gith, Athalia makes sure not to kill them, using non-lethal strikes. Kindness which however does not apply to the slavers of the forge or to the cultists of the absolute and of Bhaal

• Even creatures such as goblins, gnolls or especially demons do not arouse enough pity in Athalia to try to avoid the battle. She never initiates it head-on, but if one of these creatures attacks first, she responds without feeling mercy

• in battle, Athalia takes care of the others, like a good cleric. She almost never attacks her enemies directly, but makes sure that everyone is well healed and has the right aid to fight.

• Due to past traumas, Athalia is always afraid of not doing enough. She lives in fear of seeing her companions fall, so she does everything she can to not leave them behind

• Sometimes she even starts out quite biased, casting "Magic Armor" or "Sanctuary" even against a single goblin

• After fights she always makes sure everyone is okay. When one of her companions falls in battle, her feelings of guilt are so high that before moving on, she makes sure that the latter has fully recovered

⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ FRIENDSHIP ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆

• Athalia loves everyone

• And everyone loves Athalia because is very difficult to hate, sees her kindness. Maybe sometimes it is not affection but mere mercy towards her (She looks very stupid sometimes)

• She has a really complicated relationship with Shadowheart. Athalia also briefly heard Shar's call, and was corrupted by her darkness. In Shadowheart she sees herself, and is confident that sooner or later she will return to the right path. She never judged her, her religion or her way of behaving, but simply smiled at her and reminded her that no matter what, she was her friend and her ally.

A behavior that initially drove Shadowheart crazy, because she didn't understand how a Selunite could feel so much affection for her. In the end, however, Athalia's affection became fundamental to Shadowheart

• Karlach always puts Athalia in a good mood. Athalia is always very delicate, very attentive and cautious, while Karlach's adrenaline gives her the right push to launch herself and take courage where needed. Athalia and Karlach are very close friends and Athalia loves to talk to her in the evening before ending the day. Athalia would do anything to cure Karlach, and feels terribly helpless without finding a solution

• Wyll and Athalia are very close. They saw each other briefly as children, at parties and gala receptions of the nobility of Baldur's Gate. They have so many things in common, and they spend hours and hours talking together about their past and gossiping about their old acquaintances and their life in Baldurs Gate. Wyll was desperately in love with Athalia, but unfortunately she didn't fully reciprocate that feeling. Wyll reminds her of her past life, a life that she wants to put behind her and forget, just like Wyll, and she knows that this relationship would not be good for either of them.

On the evening where they dance together in the camp, Athalia turns her face and denies him that kiss, breaking his heart. Wyll silently respects Athalia's relationship with Gale. Despite this, the two of them will remain great friends, with a lot of understanding and affection for each other.

• Athalia is actually very fascinated by Lae'Zel. Together they spent entire nights talking about the life of Lae'Zel and the culture of the Gith. Athalia loves reading history books, and had never heard these tales of Lae'Zel culture. Athalia hopes that she will become more "kind" and tries to make her understand without offending her, inviting her to be less grumpy. Lae'Zel sees Athalia as a puppy and does everything she can to protect her

• Athalia feels a great sense of protection towards Astarion. Try to make him feel important every day, to show him that he can be a better person, but without ever forcing him or being burdensome. Sometimes even just holding his hand, without saying anything

• Athalia likes Gale since the first time she sees him (like for the others)

• She started feel something after some of his personal attention to her

• But she fell in love when she put her hand over his heart and sees his story

• Athalia is always trying to show Gale how much he means to her, but she's too shy to come forward romantically

• Athalia is extremely shy. The one who flirted between the two was always Gale first

• Gale flirts first, but Athalia flirts back, very soft and looking him with her giant eyes makes him sweat

• Athalia was a virgin before Gale. She had had some stories, but she had never done anything because her life as a lady and then as a cleric had prevented her from doing so.

• Athalia trusts Gale blindly, and when he suggests they spend the night together she doesn't think twice: she wants him to be the first (and the only one)

• Gale loves her hair, and dreams for so long to see her with her hair loose

• Just like Karlach, Athalia is obsessed with finding a cure for Gale's Orb

• Athalia often stays awake at night to look at the moon or pray. Gale, despite being dying of sleep, tries to keep her company to have some private moments with her and be able to talk to her without the rest of the group

• They both love reading. Often in the camp they spend entire hours in silence reading in each other's arms

• When Athalia is very tired, he read at loud for her

• Athalia loves Gale's scent. When she hugs him, she always inhales to feel it

• Athalia hugs Gale many times during day and night. she loves physical contact

• In battle, they are both very focused on protecting each other without realizing it

• Things haven't always been rosy between them. In fact, they had more arguments during their adventure

• Athalia loves watching Gale. The thing that excites her most during sex is watching him. She loves every single expression, every shape of his body, and wants to make him understand by admiring it as if it were a work of art

• Gale, in turn, loves Athalia's body. He always tries not to make it so obvious so as not to seem vulgar with her, but Athalia's body really drives him crazy

• Athalia doesn't have any experience whatsoever, so Gale has been a pleasant discovery for her in everything he does

• Because she has never done anything like this, she is curious to try new things, but also too shy to propose it. When she gets caught up in the excitement enough, she gets straight to the facts

• When this happens Gale is always surprised, and tries to put her at ease even if his mind is only saying "PLEASE DON'T STOP"

• Athalia, just like Gale, loves to use her mouth in all its forms to please Gale. She loves showering him with kisses and making him understand how much he is loved

• Athalia isn't exactly as innocent as she wants to make out. When her libido rises, she can hardly hide it

• So, yes, even something vaguely public could have happened

• Gale always talks to her a lot during sex. He begs her, pleases her, praises her, tells her how important she is to him. The closer he gets to the end, the more vulgar his sentences become, telling her much nasty things

• Athalia, however, doesn't speaks a lot. She beg and moan, but not much more. She always too lost in ecstasy

• Athalia, as a cleric of Selune, has several spells to control her fertility. They don't immediately try to have children, but that doesn't stop them from finishing together

• Athalia isn't exactly that wild. She's not the type to do it wildly or roughly. The two of them love to find each other in bed in the evening, starting with a kiss and then cuddle more and more, in a spontaneous and affectionate way

• There are times when they did it more wildly. Maybe after a long time without seeing each other, but it's not a habit

• Gale uses magic during sex, but not in an invasive way. He always tries to surprise Athalia, but also make her feel at ease
