an extension of this post for @peachtozier aka losers band au <3
okay first off let’s start with who plays what
richie: drums. i said a lot of my thoughts in the original post but i think he really takes a shine to it and ends up being so so good at the drums. he’s the one that gets the most slow-mo edits made of him by fans because he’s got the long hair and the sweat and he dumps water on his face in the middle of songs because he doesn’t have time to drink it.
bill: lead singer and songwriter. he gets a lot of attention because of it which the others always tease him about until he turns red. his stutter goes away when he sings and new fans are always shocked when he talks for the first time at one of the concerts because they don’t expect to hear it. he writes most of the lyrics, but richie occasionally helps out if he has a specific idea.
mike: keys, backup vocals/instruments. he’s kind of a jack of all trades, knows how to play a little bit of everything, so he’s the one that will take over if someone else has to tap out for a show or if they just need a break on a song that doesn’t require piano. very good at taking cues from others when they deviate from the studio versions during concerts.
bev: bass guitar and backup vocals.
sorry i blacked out for a moment thinking about bev playing bass. anyway. she whips out these killer basslines like it’s nothing. she likes basing some of her work on famous riffs but she always puts her own spin on it to make it something new. thrives on improvisation.
eddie: lead guitar. i just think he deserves to shred. he can let his energy out on the heavier songs but also switch it up and play a lovely ballad on the acoustic guitar. he’s not great at improv but will provide a steady riff as a base while the others do their thing.
stan: band manager. he’s very professional and polished when communicating with venues and sponsors but when they all show up nobody can tell which one is him because he’s just as goofy as the rest of them. he’ll be dancing along to tiffany or whatever random song they put on as their warmup in the green room and lip syncing over a can of soda with richie and then some assistant comes in to knock on the door and he clears his throat and straightens up and is like thank you ten :)
ben: roadie/techie. he comes up with all the cool lighting cues, the set design, and is the one to go over the stage before a gig to make sure that it’s structurally sound and everything they want to do will be safe at the venue. he also carries some of their heavier equipment, helps richie load the drum kit onto the stage, etc.
okay this is gonna become a longer au bc this post is already too long <3

No one Tagged Me But… ^ I love to yap
Besides @smehur tagged @s0lifuge which is basically like if they tagged me, just, eventually. with extra steps
Last song: according to Spotify, I’m in the middle of listening to Das Model by kraftwerk but the actual last song I listened to is Tambor Urbano. Does ensuing tinnitus count as a song?
Favourite Colours: lately I’ve been wearing a lot of green and browns. I like all colours really except for the ugly ones. They know who they are.
Last Book: literally, The Pale King. I am always fucking relistening to The Pale King especially on airplanes. it’s my favourite, and embarassing. at least if I were into Infinite Jest people would know I’m insufferable. Instead I’m forced to explain that I’m insufferable. The indignity of it all. I am also reading Naked Lunch, slowly.
Last Fic: When I typed this it was Alpha Watch I: Sin For Me by furiosity (my kingdom for part II, alas) but between then and now I saw a post that made me reread Leather Mommy by deja_lu (my kingdom for chapter 6, alas!!)
Last Movie: I rewatched Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop and am now halfway through Spirited Away in French, repeating words to myself as language practice
Last TV Show: if YouTube counts as TV, TheRealJims Simpsons videos. If YouTube counts but only if it’s also actual television, John Oliver. Otherwise, I’m watching OK KO with a (currently) long distance friend.
Sweet/Spicy/Savoury: this is not enough info but I’ll say savoury? Because it’s the broadest category? Spicy things are usually also savoury things I feel like. But also I’ve been big into fruit so, idk. I think food is abt relationships, one note is no good - hypocrit who also loves plain oat gruel.
Relationship Status: aimless, basically, romantically. considering being less aimless, aimlessly.
Last Thing I Googled: is doxable. But basically internet drama re: a formerly local nonprofit.
Current Obsession: oh, god, unfortunately my health, rumination go brrrrr. Drarry, obv. I love to talk about them. Trying new kombuchas (a bev I used to capital H Hate!)
Looking Forward To: December, I’m scheduled for de-tit-ification :) and tomorrow, seeing my cat again.
It’s supposed to be ‘10 people you want to get to know better’ but. Not tagging anyone in the spirit of If You Read This And Want To Do It Just Go For It, since that’s clearly my current MO :) Q and A is fun!!

Spice and Everything Nice
Little cheapie recommended to me by a friend who manages the local Bev-Mo… said he thought it rather decent for the price and it’s been flying off the shelf. I rolled my eyes at the horrible name and was gonna pass until I saw it was from Portugal of “indigenous grapes”. Doesn’t say what they are, but I’ve never met a Touriga Nacional or Suzao I didn’t like. Deep, glass-staining ruby red with a…

Just before I took Kathi to the airport we took a little walk in the neighborhood. Our neighbor across the street, Mo, retired a few years ago and took up gardening and he has transformed the grassy knoll in front of their house into a gorgeous garden, with the help of his landscaping crew. Kathi was dressed as colorfully as a flower and she fit right in!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The new garden in the front entry that Bev and I planted last year is really filling in and is especially pretty this month.

I drove Kathi to the airport but I wasn't sad to say goodbye because I knew I'd see her again soon since I'm headed out to Maine in another week for the family reunion!

I had seen the second part ages ago and the first part today and I just...man.
The difference between 90s It and modern It is night and day to me. And, admittedly, I feel like a lot of what I love about 90s It is missing in the modern movies.
I'm gonna talk about it under the cut cuz I don't want to take up too much of people's feed and upset anyone - cuz these are ultimately my opinions and I don't want anyone to think I'm insulting their taste.
It's kinda long so be warned.
Okay...SO:
First gripe is - I hate how many dark scenes there are - dark as in it's hard to see anything that's going on because everything's in the dark. Though, to be fair, that's not just an It thing - I feel like that's a big problem with a lot of modern movies.
Second gripe is - I feel like this movie is so reliant on jumpscares to the point I began to predict at certain points where there might be some, and it began feeling less like scares and more like assaults on the senses.
Speaking of assaults on the senses - JESUS CHRIST the kids yell SO MUCH in this movie. My partner, being a horror fan and someone who likes their experience watching the movie in theaters, said that maybe this movie could be one of those that is supposed to be something you scream along to - which, fair! But I quickly got overwhelmed by it all.
Some decisions felt really out of place, imo - like how the fight with Bowers feels like a corny food fight scene and not like the gang is standing up against a common threat (especially when they added the slow mo of one of Bowers' goons). The weird music montage when they were washing the blood from Bev's bathroom, too, when that was supposed to be an emotional and pivotal scene with which to show Bev be able to solidify her trust in the gang. Speaking of emotions, I feel like they don't let tension simmer a lot in this movie - it always ends up being broken by cheap jumpscares or by out-of-place jokes, which really took me out of it sometimes.
I dislike how much the Loser's Club fights in this movie. The Lucky Seven don't feel like they have that bond that they did in the 90s movie imo. Sure, they had a lot of banter and acted like kids, but so often it felt like they kept getting into squables and not listening to each other, or like a lot of the insulting each other back and forth just felt flat. I think they were trying to be funny? But when you keep doing it over and over, it begins to feel less funny and more forced. And also - you should show the characters genuinely care once in a while!! It can't ALL be insults and banter. And, of course, I'm not saying the gang can't have tension - but they fought and screamed SO MUCH in this movie, and it made me miss the irrevocable bond the gang had in the 90s movie, where they weren't afraid to show they valued each other even before the Big Threat comes on.
Speaking of too much banter - I should preface this by saying Richie is my favorite character from the 90s movie - but I got REALLY frustrated REALLY quickly with him in this movie. No shade to Finn Wolfhard, but Richie's character felt so watered down. It feels like the directors thought "oh, Richie is popular cuz he makes jokes - let's have him do that all the time", and then they end up making him make the same "your mom" jokes and other horny jokes over and over, even in inappropriate situations. Which felt really off to me? Cuz yes, Richie does joke a lot, and admittedly when they're adults he can be a bit of a dick, but he still clearly cares for everyone, and knows when to lay off in the 90s movie. (I do admit though, his whole fake-out and "Welcome to the Loser's Club, asshole" before he attacks Pennywise was badass.)
Speaking of other characters that were poorly handled: I REALLY disliked how Bev was handled in this movie. I do like how they tried to go with a different take for her character - she looks really cute in her tomboyish looks and cool persona - but part of me feels like her being the cool girl doesn't make sense? No hate to how they characterized her, but I feel lt made more sense for her to be more reserved as she had been in the 90s movie, with how she'd been looked down on for being poor and friendless, with no one to depend on but her father before the losers came (and all the psychological mind-fuckery that came with his abuse).
And additionally, about Bev: I REALLY dislike how much the film seems to objectify her. How she's ogled at by literally everyone - the boys in one scene, the pharmacist, her dad, Bowers - the girls at school insinuating she's a slut and EVEN EDDIE'S MOM insinuating that. They also force that romantic tension between her, Bill and Ben, which wasn't there originally, as they all loved each other equally - and both of them even force a kiss with her?? (To be fair, Ben did it to snap her out of her trance, but....it still feels so...eugh.) it feels like they took her sexual trauma and felt it somehow wasn't enough - like they had to make literally everyone be so cruel to her, and it sucks. (Don't even get me started on the scene with her dad almost assaulting her, Jesus Christ. At the very least, she gets to move in with her aunt, I suppose. 💀) finally, I hate how they took away that cool moment from her where she fights against Pennywise alongside everyone and instead opt to make her a damsel in distress, though, to be fair, she does get some REAL good hits in during the final fight of the first movie. But...enough about Bev...
I also dislike how Mike's character is not really allowed to shine at all in this movie. It was cool how in the 90s one, he's the one that tells everyone about the mysteries in Derry, and that he played such an active role. I hate that that was taken from him and just given to Ben instead, especially considering Mike is like - the only character of color in this movie. (Though I do like how in the second movie he actually gets to confront Pennywise for the last time alongside everyone, rather than being written out till the end like in the 90s movie.)
The thing with the l*per was kind of weird. 💀 i know it's supposed to represent how Eddie is scared of getting sick, but...idk - as a disabled person, seeing a sick person get turned into something grotesque and vile and to be feared feels very...off to me.
Ok...I think that's all I have for now - at least, that I can think of. Again, this is all my opinions, and I don't want people to think that I'm dissing you if you like the modern movies.
As my partner had told me, it feels like they put more of an emphasis on the bonds and emotions in the 90s movie, while the newer movies feel more like they're meant to be a phenomenon you scream along to, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Ultimately, it could just not be for me, though I don't feel like it entirely detracts from other criticisms I've made.
I'm not trying to say the 90s movie is without fault, as a disclaimer - as much as I love it, I recognize there are areas it could have used some polish.
I'm watching the newer It movie(s) rn and...
Am I the only one who greatly prefers the 90's movie more than the new ones?

Stone Hazy IPA (Picked up at Bev-Mo). A 3 of 4. A solid hazy IPA that definitely has the Stone influence with a more herbal/resinous hop profile than many others. The tropical fruit and citrus is still there up front, and the body, while hazy, is not super creamy. Solid.

I drank a bottle of this a few months ago and I don’t recall being super-impressed. I mean–as impressed as one needs to be with American-retail cheap BDX from an AOC the stronghold of classic claret and a decade old. That’s actually quite a few qualitiers. Running into it again, it’s even harder to resist on Bev-Mo’s current 6’s and 7’s sale. If you watch my stories on IG, you knew about this a…

Well, you didn't technically made it on your own, if you take a close look at the character construction H2O, which is *chef's kiss* perfect, you can see everything about almost all the character was crafted meticulously, the standouts being the main cast themselves, their home lifes constantly provide insight into why they act the way they do:
Cleo has a very traditional household in which she was kept sheltered for most of her life as a result of Don's conservative standards and views towards women, this can very easily be inferred watching Cleo's birthday episode and her family dynamic, Bev is a housewife (she's only seen doing housework and never mentions working), and Don is the provider of the house, being that society says the natural next-step of a marriage is having children, Cleo and Kim are born, and are raised under the usual authoritarian parent and gentle mother dynamic most of society conforms, alongside the usual emotional gaslighting (this is most noticeable in Season 2 and early Season 3). Cleo's life being this way had a lot to do with her being the central character of the ensemble, after all, the best way for people to root for the character you're creating is for them to see themselves in said character, Cleo is the embodiment of what most woman at the time, and even to this day, are going through in their households.
But of course, even though most women are more or less raised like Cleo, not all of them are, which is where Rikki and Emma come to play.
We only see Rikki's father and home life in Season 2's "Wrong Side of the Tracks", her father seems to generally be a kind and loving man to Rikki, he also seems to have temperamental issues which causes him to be impulsive, ¿Sounds familiar?, It's clear that Rikki's stable self-esteem, temperamental issues and impulsive behaviour all come from him, what's more interesting is that it seems that his father doesn't have a problem with opening up like she does, he actually seems more expressive than Rikki herself, unlike her he doesn't just express how he feels when he's angry, now, this could be because Rikki is her daughter and he allows himself to be more vulnerable to her, however, talking from personal experience, i think that someone that has trouble opening to the general population would struggle even with those who they feel more comfortable about telling stuff, and Rikki's father doesn't seem to struggle that much talking to Rikki about topics that might seem uncomfortable, the reason i think Rikki's not that expressive unless it's anger it's because of his authoritary way of disciplining her, in "Wrong Side of the Tracks" we see Rikki's father tell her to stay quiet, the first time Rikki tries to assertively talk to him (Something she only did with Elliot in S1), but the second time he tells her to stay quiet, Rikki, actually obeys, this right here showcases that Rikki may not trust his father that much, it's honestly impossible to say for sure since her homelife wasn't really explored all that much.
Now onto Emma, her father's a succesfull.... Investor? (i don't remember), they're the more open-minded parents of the main trio, and are kind of a foil to Cleo's parents in every aspect, Lisa seems to be a housewife, just like Bev she's only seen doing housework and never mentions working, however unlike Bev she does mention having a degree in Junior lifeguarding, these factors make me strongly think that at the very least she's a housewife by concious choice and not by being an NPC like Bev, Neil is the provider of the house, i'd like to assume they both took into consideration what it meant to have a children before having them as Emma and Elliot are raised under the unfortunately unusual gentle father and gentle mother dynamic, though as seen in the series, Neil and Lisa aren't opossed to some authoritarian practices (like grounding Emma) if they view them as necessary, there seems to be an emphasis on goals and achievement at Emma's house, Emma most likely saw that and just mirrored what she saw, that's what children do, i don't think Neil and Lisa forced Emma to swim or anything because otherwise they would've been more pushy about her getting back on the swim team (that could've been a cool plotline omg, though at the same time i'm kinda glad it isn't because we need more assertive parents, but like, Emma has scraps).
Perhaps the writers didn't know how to write and Assertive family dynamic as that would mean having more assertive conflicts but it's not like the writers disliked assertivity, as clearly seen in how Charlotte and Cleo's fighting for Lewis is one of the healthier "two woman fighting for the same man's affection" i've seen in media, and it actually is more layered than most of them so idk, maybe Emma was just a last minute afterthought so "brainy girls" could get some rep.
In short: No, you didn't make that on your own, you were just able to dissern cause and effect as a child and put two and two together. (don't know where you got the "she needs to be the perfect child because her parents pressure to" as it's more of a "she FEELS she needs to be the perfect child because of her parents' goal-oriented nature" but hey you were a kid and psychology is a complicated subject a kid may not understand very well, though the fact that you dug a little deeper into at least one of the characters is somewhat impressive as most kids, unless told to them directly, would just be like... yeah i guess she's this way because of... reasons, so bravo *clap *clap *clap)
apparently Emma Gilbert really does have a great family life???
Like, am I the only one who apparently made up an entire plot threat as a child that she actually had a not so great family life? I was always upset with Rikki for being mean and telling Emma that her family life was perfect, because little me assumed Emma was so obsessive about everything was because of her parents’ high expectations. My brain just went, “ah yes, her need to control every situation around her is definitely because her family requires that she be perfect all the time,” and I think little me was on to something there. I’ve been doing an intensive re watch for a fic I’m writing, and I just keep going, “is this the episode where they bring it up?” and no, I just made that plot point up all on my own
