The math is simple. #Humans are #CuttingDown 15 billion trees a year and #Replanting only 9 billion, creating an annual net loss of 6 billion trees. #PlantingTrees by hand is time consuming and expensive, making it difficult to keep up with bulldozers clear-cutting over 40 football fields of #Trees every minute. We’ve had impressive efforts, such as India planting 66 million trees in a day, but that was a large-scale event, which required organizing millions of volunteers. It would be difficult to recreate something like that on a regular basis. Luckily, a former #NASAEngineer has developed drones that can plant 100,000 trees per day each. Multiply that by 165 drones, and we could easily fill the 6-billion-tree gap we face each year. The drones, designed by the U.K. startup #BioCarbonEngineering are far more efficient than humans at planting trees for several reasons: 1. They’re faster. At about one tree per second, they can plant trees ten times as fast as a human could. 2. They’re cheaper. Drones do the job at about 20 percent of the cost of humans, according to the #WorldEconomicForum 3. They can plant where humans can’t. Because there is no heavy machinery involved, drones can plant in hard-to-reach areas that have no roads or steep, inaccessible terrain. 4. They may have higher success/survival rates. When humans scatter seeds, it’s hard to tell how many will actually sprout and grow into trees. The drones use #Technology to increase the odds, gathering and analyzing all sorts of information, such as surface topology, surface composition, #Soil type, and moisture in the area, to avoid planting in places seeds would be doomed from the start. #DronePlantingTrees is a two part process: First, one drone scans the terrain and develops a 3-D map of the area. We always seem to take for granted the air we breathe.  Breathing is so natural that we do not even think about the quality of air that we breathe into our lungs.  Unless you are asthmatic or suffering from a respiratory disease, air quality is not on your priority list and it should be. Based on World Health Organization data, Cebu has PM10 levels of 58 and PM 2.5 levels of 28. Air Pollution in Cebu is at a high level.  Age Well Solutions International recently launched BetterAir in Cebu to help with this problem.  BetterAir is touted to be the World’s first probiotic air and surface purifier.

BetterAir for Better Air

Household air pollution caused 4.3 million deaths worldwide in 2012 based on World Health Organization (WHO) data. 1.69 Million of this come from South East Asia. A lot of Cebuanos are still dependent on solid fuels like wood and charcoal.  This type of fuel brings carbon monoxide and particles indoors which can damage health.  There are several studies that attribute household air pollution to acute lower respiratory infections in children under five, and ischaemic heart disease, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lung cancer in adults. In 2012, household air pollution was responsible for 7.7% of the global mortality according to WHO’s Global Health Observatory Data.

Air quality is something that we should care about.  Only a few people know about this problem. In fact, air quality is not much of a priority for the majority of us. The car industry has record-breaking sales in the few years and if the trend continues, air pollution will seriously become a big problem.

It is a good thing that there are companies who are starting to recognize the problem.  While BetterAir is focused on allergens, molds, and harmful bacteria, it is good they are trying to make household air cleaner.

How does BetterAir work?

BetterAir releases billions of micron-sized probiotics to the air.  These “good bacteria” will consume pollens, dust mite waste, and pet dander.  The probiotics also prevent harmful bacteria from thriving by competing with them for resources. Environmental Probiotics is from the Bacillus ferment.

Basically, BetterAir provides home owners with an army microscopic helpers that will clean the air and the surfaces of the house.
