Artist sign-ups are open!

Invisobang is a collaborative event for authors and artists run by @kinglazrus and @bibliophilea. Over the course of several months, authors write fanfics and artists create art for those fics. We have over 80 authors this year, so we could use a lot of artists!

Check the Invisobang Info Doc for rules and FAQs. If you have any questions not answered there or in the "answers" tag on the blog, send an ask!

After you fill out the sign-up form, a message will display the link to the Discord server. Joining the server is required. If this link doesn't work, you can send an ask to the blog and a mod will DM you a new invite.

Hi all!

I decided to get early beta feedback during this round of edits and rewrites for my debut novel: “In Time For June”. This would be low pressure, with a couple chapters released every couple of weeks as I’m writing them.

I have a good amount of beta readers signed up but I'd like a couple more experienced beta readers who read a lot of fantasy, so if that's you I'd love to have you 🫶🏻

The novel is a fantasy story with a strong romance subplot - full synopsis(which is a WIP) in the signup form.

If you like: unique magic systems, strong women, non-binary rep, disability rep, fae/witches/shifters, magic college, uncovering hidden history and a mysterious evil lurking in the horizon, this is for you 🥰

The romance tropes include a love triangle, he falls first, “touch her and die”, very slow burn, and forbidden attraction.

In Time For June is a WIP, and has no release date at this time.

It is intended to be the first in a series, with a greater cosmic universe that has more stories to tell 😉

One of our favorite side projects at FTH is the Regiment of Fan Laborers, or ROFL: a group of beta readers, sensitivity readers, expertise pickers, translators and other fan laborers who are on hand to offer FTH creators assistance with their auction fanworks.

We love this project because (like the auction itself) it helps build connections and community between fans. It's also a great way for creators to find out how amazingly helpful fan labor support can be!

And? You can sign up even if you didn't offer a fanwork in the auction!

Fandom Trumps Hate 2025 is coming!

Fandom Trumps Hate is ramping up for its ninth year, and I'm hoping you'll join me in participating! Over the next couple of weeks I'm going to be posting about this event, different ways to be involved, and keeping you apprised of important dates as they arrive. To start -- a quick FAQ!

What is Fandom Trumps Hate?

Fandom Trumps Hate (or FTH for short) is a massive cross-fandom auction of fanworks for charity. Contributors sign up to offer a digital (or sometimes physical!) creation, and bidders agree to donate an amount to selected charitable organizations. Over the past 8 years, they (and the hundreds of creators and bidders who have participated) have raised over $300,000 for dozens of organizations doing important work in fields including LGBTQ+ rights, housing insecurity, voting advocacy, racial inequality, environmental issues, and more.

What kinds of things can be in the auction?

Anything you can imagine and create! Most of the auctions are digital content, but there is also the Craft Bazaar for physical items. And even within the digital offerings, there's a ton of variety -- fanfics are one of the more popular, but there's also fanart, fan labor (such as beta-ing, region-picking or expertise-picking, coding, etc.), podfics, music, gifmaking, and more!

What are the key dates I should know about?

Creator signups are from Monday, January 20th to Sunday, February 2nd

On Friday, February 21st, the auctions will all be posted for bidders to peruse before the bidding period

Auction bidding is from Tuesday, February 25th at 8am EST to Saturday, March 1st at 8pm EST

Is auctioning off fanworks even legal?

I mean, technically everything in fanwork is a bit of a legal grey area, loosely protected by fair use. The key here is that the creators are not "selling" fanworks, nor are bidders "commissioning" the fanworks -- no money ever goes from bidder to creator, only from bidder to charitable organization. Instead, these fanworks are gifts to thank the bidders for their donation.

Introducing the Murderbot Diaries 2025 Reverse Big Bang!

Wait, a reverse Big Bang?

Yes!

Do you like the idea of a collaborative event like a Big Bang, but you are a writer who likes to write shorter works or write from prompts, an artist who wants to set the creative direction this time, or a podficcer who wants to be involved in more fandom events?

A Reverse Big Bang has the artist create a sketch, thumbnail, or rough draft of their artistic vision, and then writers make claims on which piece they want to write a fic inspired by! Podficcers will also get the chance to claim written works they’d like to podfic—and then all collaborate to produce an artwork, the associated fic, and podfic that release all at once in a big bang of new fanwork!

For this Reverse Big Bang, the visual art is the initial creative direction, and the written part emphasizes short-form works. There are no wordcount minimums, but there is a maximum wordcount of 5,000 words!

(If a more traditional Big Bang is more your speed, a concurrent one is running simultaneously at @murderbotbigbang. This is a complement, not a competition, opening the event field to a different audience. I reached out to @griseldagimpel and got her blessing.)

Artists who have a cool idea they want to create, writers who want to work from an art prompt or create short-form or non-traditional written works, and podficcers who are looking for inclusive fan collab events without high wordcount expectations - this is for you!

February 3: Artist signups open. Artists may start planning and creating as soon as they sign up. February 23: Artist signups close. March 10: Artist check-in. March 16: In-progress sketches submitted to the mods. March 17: Sketches will be posted for claims. Writer and beta-reader sign-ups will open. Podfic sign-ups open, though podfic claims will happen later. March 31: Writer and podficcer signups close April 7: Team matches of artists, writers, and beta readers assigned. April 14: Artist and writer should have talked to each other by this date. May 5: Progress check-in. Podfic claims open. May 19: Podfic claims close. May 26: Progress check-in 2.
