“Mike, can we talk?” Detective Marcus Burnett questions his partner and best friend Mike Lowrey. His wife Theresa ran errands with the kids again.
“Another donkey rant?” Mike rolled both eyes while standing on the terrace and nursed his drink after sharing lunch.
“No!” Marcus narrowed his eyes through bewilderment. “I wanted to ask something important when the family wasn't here.”
“Sure, what's up?” Genuinely concerned, Mike whispered.
Marcus glanced around before speaking and Mike simply waited to hear the question. There was no other choice.
“Have you heard from Armando?” Marcus offered this true inquiry. “It's been a while since we put him on the boat, man.”
“Went off-grid.” Mike finished his drink for the afternoon.
“You're cool with that assumption? Your own son could be dead somewhere and we might not even know about it. Judy Howard let Armando live. Be grateful.” Marcus folded both arms.
“Thought you'd have more faith.” Mike shook his head, disappointed. “Everyone saw Armando leave.”
“Yeah, well excuse me for being paranoid about my nephew.” Marcus continued. “If Reggie pulled this shit, I'd start tracking everything.”
“I only gave Armando the passport.” Mike recalled back.
“Look, we gotta check with Dorn and find Armando's location.” Marcus took charge.
“Damn.” Mike sighed, leaving the house and dreading time.
*****
This search began right away. Soon enough, late nights and early mornings scrambled from every single corner of the Miami Police Department.
“Bingo, I found his location!” Dorn snapped his fingers while facing virtual screens.
Mike and Marcus hustled into the room without fail, outright invested.
“What's going on?” Mike sat down in the opposite chair.
“Armando started to drift after reaching Mexico first.” Dorn clipped an explanation.
“What's Armando's location right now?” Marcus interfered, pissed off.
“Let Dorn work!” Mike stepped toward Marcus once more and couldn't take judgment. “Armando is my son, not yours.”
“I started looking for Armando. If it wasn't for me, you'd wait too long and skim through autopsy reports later!” Marcus yelled, not apologizing.
Everyone paused, silent.
“Fuck you, Marcus!” Fed up with his partner, Mike gathered belongings and took this extra flash drive, leaving the precinct.
_____
“After everything we've gone through, Marcus doesn't trust how I put Armando on the boat that day.” Mike vented to his wife Christine, a physical therapist.
“You made a personal decision.” Christine tried to help.
“I know.” Mike sighed, yet intrigue pulled when this notification reached his laptop.
“What do you see?” Christine turned to Mike and also watched the screen.
“Oh, shit!” Grinning, Mike chuckled for a second when reality kicked in. “He's close.”
****
Vibrant colors painted the sunset before nightfall loomed over South Beach.
Drifting all around the world just to survive his escape, Armando Aretas finally returned to Miami and entered this hotel without true luggage.
The late-night hour calmed each famous noise located downtown. Right here, observant staff members noticed how Aretas stood up front.
“Welcome. How can we help you this evening, Sir?” The receptionist greeted Armando.
“Hello. I only need a room, please.” Cordial, Armando offered slightly accented English.
“Of course.” The receptionist handed this entry card and smiled once more. “Have a good night.”
Thank goodness. Now I'll take an immediate shower. Armando thought.
______
It's time.
After taking that much-needed shower, Armando unpacked this single bag to rearrange his only belongings. Travel pulled all kinds of hiding.
“Hello?” Detective Mike Lowrey, Armando's biological father, picks up.
“I'm back.” Armando clipped two words in an attempt to speak.
“Where?” Mike reached Armando's level instead of freaking out.
“Downtown.” Aretas cleared his throat for a second.
“What's the move?” Mike dropped his voice. “I'm not doing anything unless you're ready.”
“Just know that I'll need a minute before coming around.” Armando told the truth and hung up, genuinely trying to sleep.
*****
The next day, Armando wakes up alone, but plans his day while sitting among guests.
Leaving breakfast, Armando heads back to the elevator just as you exit these silver doors. One of the suited bellhops pushed this luggage cart.
“You missed out, man.” Another bellhop laughed near Armando once both doors closed. “She was really nice this weekend.”
“Who?” Armando offered eye contact for the conversation.
“The girl who just left us. No drama and gave simple requests.” The bellhop raved about you. “A lot of people act up without thinking twice just because it's Miami.”
“I get it.” Armando nodded.
“Take care.” The bellhop looked out before Aretas returned to his room.
_____
He didn't even learn your name, but Armando found himself thinking of you, this complete stranger.
Moments before you left the hotel, Aretas had quietly remembered your smile and kindness eased staff members again.
****
When the evening arrived once more, Armando pulled together and finally stepped out.
“Partying tonight, man?” The previous bellhop noticed Aretas.
“Just going out.” Armando gave himself permission to loosen up.
“I know some places nearby.” The bellhop suggested.
“Cool.” Armando nodded, ready to see the nightlife again.
______
You found each other near during this rooftop event and evening stars welcomed this opportunity.
“Stayed at the hotel, but I'm leaving soon.” You planned to drive home by tomorrow.
“Do you know who I am?” Armando questioned you after finishing his drink.
“Aretas.” You grounded his last name, smart as hell.
“Ratting me out?” Armando stepped closer regardless.
“No, but I need to tell you something.” You leaned forward and planned to whisper in his ear.
“Yeah?” Armando took this moment, playing along.
“Marcus Burnett tracked down your location.” You reveal that unexpected bombshell and walk away, leaving Aretas in the shadows.
What the fuck?! Armando fumed within.
*****
“What's going on? A stranger just told me that Marcus followed everything.” Armando called Mike back at the hotel.
“Marcus hasn't trusted me since you left on the motorboat.” Mike revealed this truth. “Dorn helped us find your location.”
“Maybe I should've gone right back to prison now.” Armando defended himself. “We did all that work for nothing.”
“Everybody's worried. Where you at?” Mike still debated his son gently.
“If you still can't trust the way I move, what's the point of speaking up anymore?” Aretas shook his head.
“I'll listen. Say whatever you want.” Mike genuinely wants to hear Armando's perspective.
“Tonight could've been great.” Armando vented this time. “I'm tired of y'all breathing down my neck.”
“That wasn't me.” Mike responded on the other line. “Marcus thought I'd leave you for dead.”
“Would you throw me to the wolves?” Armando pulled his question from the heart.
“Never.” Mike repeated himself from the McGarth mission and tried to ease Armando's doubt. “Of course not.”
“I'm not coming back for a while now.” Armando put his foot down.
“I understand, but at least tell me that you're good.” Mike requested.
“I'm alive.” Aretas finally ended the conversation himself.
Moments later, this unknown number reached his phone.
******
“I thought you were gone.” Aretas laughed when reaching your driver's side of the car.
“Need some help?” You've returned to the hotel's parking lot and found Armando.
“Leave the building first and then we'll start talking.” You led this chemistry.
Trusting you so much more than his estranged father Mike Lowrey, Armando Aretas checked out of that hotel room.
*****
That next day, this beachfront home stood tall when you reached the destination with Armando.
“So just to be safe, Are you a cop?” Armando still questioned your motives.
“No. I would've arrested you last night.” You entered this house and welcomed the coastal air.
“Nice hotels and a beautiful home. What am I missing here?” Armando seemed puzzled about you, though intrigued.
“Long story short: I have an inheritance.” You solved this affluent lifestyle.
Armando glanced around the living room to observe cheerful pictures. Your friends and loved ones gathered different snapshots over time.
“Miami of all places?” Armando sat by the kitchen counter, watching you.
“What about you?” You arched your brow after washing your hands to make dinner.
“It's complicated.” Armando gently expressed himself.
“Might as well tell me.” You shrugged behind the counter.
Here we go. Armando thought.
______
You've been flabbergasted by the rollercoaster of storytelling.
“I knew about the cartel shit, but Detective Mike Lowrey is your father?” You're stuck during the meal.
“It's not easy, but yeah.” Armando cut brutal details.“My mother told me right before she died.”
“Damn.” You whispered and Aretas offered to clean up, letting you rest since driving home.
______
Later that night, you organized Armando's place in the guest bedroom, ready to sleep.
“Need anything else?” You face Armando in the hallway.
“No.” Aretas stepped closer once more and chuckled, standing inches away from your lips.
Right as you plan to kiss Armando for real, his phone rang.
Both of you scoffed and casted your eyes toward the ceiling.
“Answer.” You excuse yourself from Armando and sleep, letting that phone call dish out.
Dammit! Armando raged with his own thoughts once more.
______
Picking up the call, Armando recognized Mike's phone number.
“Hey.” Aretas held back drama to avoid waking you up.
“Look, I'm sorry about what happened the other night. Mike apologized for once. “Where are you?”
“Appreciate your apology, but my spot doesn't matter.” Armando wouldn't reveal your home. “All you'll do is lock me down somewhere else.”
“I won't.” Mike tried offering another chance. “I just need to know that you're alright.”
“I'm happy.” Armando clipped his response once more and hung up, sleeping in your guest room at last.
*****
“All the space and no one special woke you up this morning?” Armando flirted after sharing breakfast with you the next day.
“You didn't wake me up.” You stepped forward after cleaning the kitchen together and smiled against his lips, trying last night's moment a second time.
“Just say the word, mami.” He chuckled, bringing chills down your spine.
“You're so cheesy!” Finally moving toward him, your lips meet Aretas through laughter and his heart skips for the first time in a while, beaming.
No more danger. This moment feels right with you, unexpectedly sweet.
“Hey, you okay?” Armando held your cheek just in case something went wrong through his gesture of kissing you.
“Yeah. I'm all right. That was good.” You offered the truth and smoothed your fingers along his beard, watching Armando bite his lip.
He's melting and suddenly realized that your touch could solve anything. No one has ever moved so gently with him.
Even now, you look so pretty while sporting no makeup and wearing comfortable pajamas from last night.
“C'mere.” He takes your hand, leaving both of you to the living room.
Within seconds, you're sitting on his lap despite noticing the weight of this couch and just started talking to each other.
“You hid from law enforcement after Judy Howard spared your life?” You ask, not dreaming.
“No other choice.” Armando rasped. “The police department made a deal, though. Missions cut down my prison sentence, too. I should be behind bars right now.”
“I'll ask again: what made you come back to Miami?” You questioned.
“Running got old. I guess….” Armando trailed off and struggled to express himself this time.
“If you need anything, I'm here, whether you're a fugitive or not.” You kiss Armando once more and rest in his arms, protective over this stranger.
_______
“I have a surprise for you.” You covered his eyes this evening and guided footsteps toward the dining room after Armando napped in private.
Dessert lined up around this table and gifts joined the cluster.
“Oh, what's this?” Aretas sat down and observed this moment.
“You've only kept one bag with you, so I pulled a few strings.” You smiled.
“Cariño…” Though not crying, Aretas offered his native language of Spanish and called you “Sweetheart.”
“I got you, okay?” You walked around the table and hugged him. In return, Armando held your wrists, grateful.
From cologne to new outfits with luggage and more, you refused to let Armando travel again without dignity. His one bag dropped your spirit.
Standing from the table, Aretas ignored dessert and kissed you once more, lost in this moment as dim lights captured your silhouettes.
“I won't forget about you.” Armando vowed.
“Then don't.”You nodded with absolute consent when Aretas lifted your weight and drifted to the bedroom.
_______
The following day, blankets rustled as you wake up in his arms.
“Morning…” His accented English pulled all senses, but you couldn't respond while kisses greeted your lips.
“Morn, oh. You're nasty…” You've realized that his erection set beneath the covers.
“You already know that.” Armando flirted right back and wanted so much more, but this doorbell rang out of nowhere.
“Don't worry. I got it. Kay?” Armando teases your neck before you could roll both gorgeous eyes.
“Mmm!” You covered your face with a pillow to seek darkness and rest.
Regrettably pulling himself together and leaving your bed, Armando checked the RING Camera.
Mike and Marcus waited outside, pissed off after somehow finding this location.
“Baby!” Aretas yelled and you scrambled from dreams to stay alert.
Despite everything, you ran to the foyer and realized who showed up.
Fuck! Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett followed Armando.
“What should we do?” You're barely dressed in this robe, teasing lingerie.
“I'll go.” Armando kissed the top of your head and stepped outside.
_____
‘It wasn't my idea!” Mike defended himself while speaking to Aretas first.
“Didn't even tell you where I was last night! How the hell…” Armando paced back and forth, reaching his breaking point.
“Hey, watch your mouth, Mike's your father no matter what!” Marcus finally interjected near Armando.
“Nigga, shut the fuck up!” Mike snapped toward Marcus. “If you trusted me from the beginning, we wouldn't be standing here.”
“Let us in. Who's there?” Marcus took charge again and faced Armando.
“None of your business.” Aretas refused to have Mike and Marcus invade your privacy further.
“This girl could hurt you.” Marcus stepped closer and still ranted.
“Like y'all haven't? You keep forgetting that I'm not a weapon.” Armando then held his heart. “For the first time, I didn't look over my shoulder.”
“She's a stranger.” Marcus continued doubting this explanation.
“So are you, Detective. Both of you. Get out of here.” Aretas went back to your place fed up.
______
“I can't believe you pulled that shit, man!” Mike shouted in the car while driving home.
“I won't apologize for my choice, either.” Marcus kept grumbling.
“So you'll ruin our entire friendship over one choice that I made with my son because we disagree.” Mike still looked toward the road.
“For somebody who wanted a good relationship with Armando, you probably didn't even think about him until I said something.” Marcus went on.
“You don't know anything.” Lowrey noticed the venom once more. “Thought you were my brother.”
“I am, always.” Marcus eased. “But Armando's silence didn't bother you?”
“I told you before, have faith.” Mike then answered. “Armando would come back, but now we'll probably never see him again because you don't trust distance.”
Marcus stopped talking and peered beyond the car windows.
****
“Here's an extra house key if you need it, all right?” Sometime later, you face reality when Armando leaves paradise.
“Come back with me. The house is too big for you to be alone.” His kisses locked you down as a suitcase waited by the door.
“I'm not ready.” You just can't handle Mike and Marcus.
“Kay.” Armando whispered, leaving your side Mike Lowrey's classic Porsche rolled up. “Thank you.”
“Of course.” You smiled one last time before Armando vanished.
When the door closes behind you, tears fall from your eyes and this beautiful home turns vacant like your own heart.
______
Returning to Miami, you're out with friends one night, but familiar hands reached your waist on the dance floor.
“Uh-oh!” Everyone cheered when you started moving with Armando and grind to the music.
“You're back for good?” You questioned Aretas between spotlights.
“I'm not going anywhere.” He kissed you during this reunion and could stay in your world forever.

like ok. i am Choosing to go to paralegal school. it’s a choice i’m making. however. my interest in being a paralegal is,, virtually nonexistent. i could not give a fuck. what i WANT is a stable and well-paying job that can be done remotely. and in order to get that without wasting the next 6-8 years working my way up from receptionist to legal secretary to junior paralegal to paralegal, i’m doing a year of school instead. but there is no part of me that is looking forward to this process. i keep telling my irls that i’m excited or whatever but i’m Not. it’s literally just an extra obligation on my schedule. something that is going to require extra time and mental effort that i truly cannot afford to spare. it will get me from point A to point B, but like. i am not anticipating enjoying any part of the process. i think it’s gonna be annoying at best and fucking exhausting at worst.

aita for eating my friends?
i (f) thought i was a receptionist at an embassy on an alien planet. the embassy in question was collapsing, and the people i was meant to serve had to fight of their friends' reanimated corpses while i naively continued to operate the hallways to the best of my ability and acted cheerful.
after a while, though, i realised: i was reliving the same day over and over! and it was such a horrible day! so i broke out of the loop and the embassy, and went outside.
i slowly figured out that i was a sprite on a device designed to store memories, and i was almost the only one who had done so! it turns out, though, the device was rapidly running out of energy, and the individual elements (us, the sprites) would soon corrupt beyond recognition. the process was already starting in me, so i felt incredibly hungry!
the only thing to eat was other pieces of the device's data, so i began to consume other sprites, piece by piece. gradually, numerous other entities broke out of their loops themselves and started doing what i did, until virtually the entire device was awake and eating at itself.
eventually we were sated and started forming our own civilisations, the largest of which i joined. i have not eaten a single thing since, but i still feel bad for all of the potential friends that were consumed to keep me more intact. i know i ate more than my friends because i am far more intact than them.
aita?

Mic Testing - Chapter Four - Chasing The Feeling
"No, Melvet, you have to stay here!"
You scrambled around your apartment, chasing your newly acquired spider yokai pal. It dodged under the coffee table as you skidded across the carpeted floor. You landed to a stop on your rug burnt knees. "Melvet! Come here." Reaching under the coffee table, Melvet skittered out and rounded into the kitchen. Where your roommate was laughing hysterically, grasping the countertops so as to not keel over.
You scowled at them as you continued the chase. "You know you could always help me." They continued roaring with laughter as you tripped and fell to the floor. Groaning you got up once again as you swiped at the small white creature. You unfortunately missed as it swiftly ducked into an open cabinet, one your lovely roommate oh so kindly opened for it.
"I'm going to be late at this rate!" Rummaging through the cabinet your digits graze the fluffy critter. "Well maybe you should have picked a different day, it is my day off, I want some excitement." You shoot them a glare as they raise their hands in defense. "I didn't pick the day or time, I wasn't a part of the meeting for scheduling." You quickly shoved your arm into the cabinet, wincing at the jabbing of the wood against your shoulder. You manage to snab the sneaky spider and pull it out. "And you, little guy, need to behave. I'll buy you grapes if I get a good report."
Melvet gave a playful salute, or at least attempted one as you stood up. You carried the small creature to your room and placed it in it's little area that you had finished setting up earlier in the day. You gave it a small head pat as you closed the door of your bedroom and pulled your jacket on. Walking past the now gasping for air traitor, you snatched your keys with a wave. "Alright, I'm out, I'll be back in an hour or two." As you turn the doorknob your roommate pipes up. "Oh, and remember to pick up that book I asked for."
You gave a teasing shake of your head as you swung open the door. "Of course, anything to earn a favor." They let out a scoff and a smile as you closed the door behind you. You straightened out your carefully picked outfit as you started walking down the stairs. You had planned almost everything, what you would wear, what you would say, how you would get there.
Entering the virtually empty sidewalk, you started your five minute trek. It wouldn't take long and you left just before most workers got off. The breeze was chilly, but felt nice as you quickly closed in on the building of your destination.
It was a small radio station, extremely more listened than your music, but the location was small. You opened the glass door and walked up to the line at the reception desk. There were a few people in front of you as you patiently waited. You noted a pretty mad human man second in line. He seemed to be glaring at the calico cat yokai receptionist. You frowned, wondering what she did wrong.
Well it became that man's turn and almost immediately the yelling started. "Get me a meeting, now!" He slammed his hands on the desk, startling the receptionist. "I'm sorry sir, but you still haven't given me your name or the name of who you want the meeting with." The man slammed his hands again. "Just get me a meeting you stupid feline!"
You're not normally a confrontational person, but you're making an exception for today. You politely excuse yourself to the front of the line and snap your fingers to earn the man's attention. "Hey, this lovely person is working their best to help you. Insults, yelling, and physical actions are not needed." The man seethed as he glared at you, the sweet looking receptionist gave you a grateful look. "But this mutant is refusing to get me a meeting." You sighed and shook your head. "For one, you don't know if they are a mutant or yokai. Second, a meeting with who?"
The man stuttered slightly as his face turned red in embarrassment. He then shot the cat yokai a glare and stormed off. You gave a breath of relief and went to the back of the line. You were sweating with nervousness over the entire situation. But you knew you did the right thing, besides he was yelling so loudly and just being rude.
Eventually came your turn as you walked up to the desk. You gave your name and appointment time, hoping that would be enough as your dumb producer never gave you the name of who you were meeting. Out of gratitude the thankful cat yokai checked the database and managed to find your meeting. They gave you a smile as they directed you to the room you would need to be in. You gave them a smile in return as you started your way to your destination, giving the cat a wave as you left.
You made a few turns, getting lost a few times before you finally made it to the room. Repeating the lines you planned to say, you turned the handle of the door and opened it. Revealing on the other side two separated areas of the room. On one side it had all the equipment used to play the music on the radio station, as well as the accursed ads. On the other, only separated by a wall and large glass window, had a desk with chairs and microphones. You walked into the room as you spotted two people, one blonde human man who was on the shorter side, and one mutant that looked like a chameleon. Giving them a smile, you waved.
Catching the attention of the man he sported a bright smile and gestured for you to join him at the desk as the chameleon pressed a few buttons. You sat down as the man held up a hand and started what appeared to be a countdown. Once all his fingers were down he started talking excitedly. "Well hello there listeners, we have a special treat with us today. As one of you has persistently requested, we got one of our very own local singers to join us for a little interview. So tell you about yourself." He motioned for you to talk into the microphone in front of you.
"Oh, um, hello. I write and perform my own music." You nervously gave your stage name as the man gave you a thumbs up. "Now, the locals call you Superstar. Mind telling us a bit more about that?" You blushed and let out a groan of embarrassment, earning light chuckles from the two people in the room. "It started when I first began performing at a shopping district. I tend to perform from seven in the morning until about six at night. So naturally over time I got to know the shop owners pretty well." The man nodded as he gave a slight hum. "Very interesting, the kind listener that asked for you did have a list of questions they wanted answered. Do you mind answering them?"
You rubbed the back of your neck. "Sure, I don't mind." The man flashed a grin as he pulled out a sheet of paper and started asking basic questions. What music do you write? What's your favorite color? Those types of things. But as you neared the end of the interview the last question caught you off guard. "Alright, how do you feel about mutants and yokai, and would you ever consider dating one?" You looked puzzled at the questions but answered with a smile. "I think they are interesting, but people nonetheless. I guess I don't really feel one way or another about them."
The man gave a nod as he set the paper down. "Now that we are down with the viewers' questions we'll have a few songs played and then get back into it. How's that sound to you?" You give a return nod, feeling a bit more comfortable with the situation. "Sounds great." The man gestures at the chameleon and with a nod music starts playing as the microphones get muted.
You stretched as the man got up and started conversing with the chameleon. You watched them as they talked quietly, not wanting to disturb their conversation. They both looked at you and walked over, the man extending his hand. "Hello, nice to formally meet you, you can address me as Mike." Shaking his hand the chameleon also extended their hand. "And I'm Sabrina, as you can tell I'm a mutant." You let go of Mike's hand and shook Sabrina's, introducing yourself with your real name.
"Sorry for doing this out of the blue, one of our listeners has been emailing us about it for months. We had to do a bit of digging but we finally found your producer, not a lovely person." Mike laughed at his comment, but the three of you had a silent understanding of each other. The person was awful and greedy. "Anyway, thank you for coming in on such short notice. My daughter actually loves your music. As I was digging for information on you, she managed to find you at that shopping district and fell in love." You gave a polite smile and a laugh.
"Well I'm glad someone else likes my music." A beep cut off the conversation as Mike sat down again and Sabrina walked back to her station. Mike did the countdown again before talking again. "And we are back, hope you didn't miss us too much." You smiled as Mike relaxed in his chair. "Now I have just a few more questions for our lovely small artist." You give a hum and a nod. "Alright, ask away."
"Has anything strange happened in your time of street performing?" His smile dropped slightly as the words left his mouth.

A Deadbeat’s Journal 20
A Jotaro Kujo x Blackfemreader
Jotaro’s thoughts,
The drive was long but unwinding. I felt the cooling breeze after the three hour drive and absolutely enjoyed the increasing lack of traffic as I drove.Reaching the hotel though is the most relieving . I park, observing the lot.I notice a distinct quietness, only six cars parked and I’m even happier that y/n rightfully thought that the tourism season has just ended.
I think it would be best to just rest today. It's already approaching lunch and the aroma of grilled fish dances around my nostrils. The receptionist checks me in and confirms that the lunch buffet is ready. The room is wonderful with a large spacious and most importantly with a balcony overlooking the beachview. Just as I had confirmed with the virtual room tour.Complimentary fruits that y/n would have begun snacking on are nicely displayed in a sisal basket that she would have insisted we take home.
After a cooling shower and changing to a simple slightly oversized white dress shirt and white linen trousers with some flip flops , I head to the lunch room .There are quite a few more people than I expected, a family of six in one corner who were in calm discussions, two white americans who were loudly conversing although based on the continuous fluctuations of their voices, it seems that they are constantly attempting to adjust their volumes. In the middle sat a older white man who was with his trophy wife, a black woman,  considering  their rings. The wife shamelessly stares at me. I feel queasy .
I head to the barbeque section , choosing lobster and the mouth watering barbequed mackerel that I had wafted earlier. They offered mashed potatoes and this thick gravy that seemed good enough so I smothered it around my food. Looking back , I discover a vacant seat away from the crowd and as soon as I sit down and only a few bites into my food, one of the Americans comes beside me.
First of all, who approaches someone in the middle of their lunch? Maybe in the pool or even whilst taking a walk but not when one is attempting to alleviate their hunger. Secondly, I absolutely hate that aside from my brooding nature, I also got my good looks from Sadao.
“Hi. I’m Mikayla and you are?” She enthusiastically questions. Now that she’s closer, her voice seems the pitcher of the pair and her valley girl accent makes my teeth knaw.
“Jotaro.”I hope I put enough ‘stop talking to me’ energy in my tone but rather than that , she pulls the chair opposite me.
“Oh how exotic, Are you Japanese?”
“Yes.”
“What are you doing here?”
I answer honestly which leads to an unprompted Ted like talk on how beautiful Kenya is. She isn't wrong and I would have entertained her were I not only hungry but also tired from driving non-stop for three hours. My listless hums seem only to propel her loud mouth and despite the lovely made food, I keep gulping a bitter taste. After the end of another rant, she questions,
“And why are you here alone? I wouldn’t have been able to travel alone.” Her voice suggests faux concern.
“My wife was busy and I left her in Mombasa.”I lie and I can see her eyes sharpen in disbelief and slight annoyance.
“Wife? Who is she then, can I see her?” She asks coyishly though I know she has begun a battle to figure out whether I’m lying . I know that I shouldn’t prove her wrong but for a moment I imagine introducing y/n as my wife and the woman beside me seething with jealousy at the absolute beauty she is so I willingly show her my homescreen of y/n sleeping alongside Samosa.
By now, the family of six quiet mummerings had all but dimmed to listen to our conversations and from the corner of my eye notice the teens silently chuckle at my uninvited guest’s unmasked shock.
“Well I’ll let you carry on with lunch.” She says whilst rising , schooling her face to hide the obvious embarrassment she feels at attempting to flirt with a married man. I go on to add another helping . This time getting some potato wedges and ribs. Suddenly the food no longer has a grey aftertaste and after filling myself with sweets . I head for an afternoon nap.
 * * *
Waking up to a wonderful evening breeze is literally luxury living . I don’t think I’d get over the beach even though my apartment is just another beach house. After washing my face , I head to the beach bar and order a tequila to warm me up as the breeze is even more chilling once you leave the room . There are quite a few more people at the beach, most however are not from the hotel . A group of teens are playing beach volleyball. Others are swimming in the deeper areas of the beach whereas some have decided to lounge in the hotel's white gazebos . The Americans seem annoyed at my appearance and whisper to themselves as I lounge. I don’t care. She embarrassed herself when she came over.
I picked up the book y/n gave me and it's so engrossing I didn’t even realise that it was almost dinnertime. One of the staff jolts me back to reality and with a teasing smile, reminds me of the approaching hour. Walking around the hotel while reading would be hindering in more ways than one so I bookmark the page, surprisingly I’m almost halfway done. Granted it's a light novel but still.
I notice the same group as lunchtime, with a few more guests who are only here for the dinner course. The barbeque is even more abundant and the seafood buffet even more appetising .This time I opt for some macaroni and cheese with shrimp , prawns and another mackerel. A salad just to balance out the carbs and I’m off to the table with my room number. I reply to the trophy wife’s husband nod and continue reading my book while eating . Luckily it went without a hitch ,I enjoyed the varying beverages, surprised by the sweet tasting bungo juice and plan to recreate it on my own at home.
As I drift off , I think that I should call her. She seemed a bit sad and the guilt is beginning to settle in. But I need this time away, not only to sort my feelings but to understand where I’m headed in my career. I feel somewhat disillusioned, there is a lot more paperwork than I expected. Moreover, grant organisers are controlling , only interested in the underlined project and are unwilling to be flexible whenever other obstacles or more aid is needed until relentless nagging on my part. The Speedwagon Foundation has been beneficial in connecting me in many aids but I’m tired of it to be honest . I’m not fulfilled nor happy with my current position. I’m thinking that as my grant ends, I should just do research work. The classmates I recently phoned who do freelance research projects seem more fulfilled and besides the huge pay cut , it has little cons. Moreover, I have more than enough to sustain myself. Mom , Dad and Gramps have been funnelling millions in my trust fund since I was a child not to mention my personal investments.
But y/n . She needs me doesn’t she? Or would she be willing to move around with me?But knowing her, she’d need a powerpoint presentation as to why we should live a nomadic lifestyle. Also, a ring. Do I love her enough to willingly spend the rest of my life with her? The fact I’m questioning this is enough of an answer. I know she won’t willingly go with me nor will she stop me. I don’t expect her to wait for me. Why am I even thinking of marriage when I haven’t even taken her on a date yet. Wait, maybe she doesn’t even see me romantically But that’s on her for making me develop feelings for her . She shouldn’t have created domesticity in the quiet home. She shouldn't have made us parents . She shouldn’t be attentive whenever I speak, offer solid advice whenever I’m anxious and smile whenever she gets the dry jokes that others usually don’t.
I love her. But I love myself too.
                                                                   * * *
That instructor guiding me in Kayaking this fine morning is an equally fine man. Dark, a tad short yet has that lean muscle that is always appreciated and a smile that almost rivals y/n. You can feel the warmth as he guides the interracial couple to their raft and instructs on the least stressful way to row the boat . The boats are two seaters and he kindly seats ahead of me for I am alone. Why is me being alone both cringy and embarrassing ?
He says we are to row to the point where the smaller silky sharks begin  residing and at first,it seemed simple but  my muscles begin to wear out .The boat is also small and I need to slightly squeeze myself and balance lest the boat will topple over. Moments like this are when I despise my height. Anyway, after a few mishaps from the others, we row back now. I'm facing the approaching shore and he is repeatedly praising my form . If he wasn’t so glaring straight, I would have flirted.
Everyone  removes themselves from the safety garments as though they have offended them somehow. After having casual small talk , he says that he knows a guy that can rent him a yacht and teach me how to operate one. After thanking him, I head back to the hotel alongside the other group and after a quick rise dive into the pool. I’m glad this pool is deep enough to dive in . I’ve always hated the usual no diving policy that littered the hotels in Mombasa. Y/n barely knows how to dive and I’ve told her it's because of those policies. If you are building a pool just to make it deep enough to dive, the whole appeal of swimming is also attempting to dive as well as an olympic diver.
Anyways enough about my rant, the two teens who have approached me , fraternal twins fittingly called Andy and Candy want to learn how to dive and after a glance from their smiling parents who nod in approval, I teach them the basics, by the time lunch rolls by , they are practically better than me. The flexibility of youth.
“So Mr Kujo, what do you do?”Candy asks as we approach the buffet this time held outside.
“I’m a marine biologist and just call me Jotaro, you are ageing me with the Mr”
“Ok Jotaro. But what does a Marine biologist do, like anatomy work? I thought we already knew everything about the ocean.” She curiously peers at me , a pout of confusion.
“Well, we are in the midst of a global warming that could be irreversible, our work is to ensure things like coral reefs and what sustains the ecosystem of the oceanic environment plus her inhabitants are not damaged due to this.”I explain, hoping I don’t come off as preachy as I approach their table.
“So that means like work.”Andy responds
“Alot of it” and they groan in despair.
They explain that since joining form 1 , all they have been told is to start choosing their career path and they feel overwhelmed. After a formal introduction to their family , we sit down . The oldest two, another boy and girl, though not twins , are in their second  and third year of University. Angel does Accounting and finance whereas John does Business Commerce.
“So, Marine Biology , does it pay?” The patriarch asks with a auto lilt on his voice
“Yeah, if you have grants coming in, which I’m fortunate enough to have.”
“But you need connections to get your applications approved.”The mother considers with a gentle yet deeper voice.
“True. You can’t get far without necessary links and to create such links for some it takes years.”
“Okay enough about that boring talk. I’m on holiday. Why did you not chat up the pretty woman that was talking to you yesterday?” Andy mischievously questions and his older brother, Mwashigadi smacks his head , but not without a slight smirk that was immediately hidden .
“Yeah, She seemed interested. We couldn’t hear all you guys said but we definitely heard her whispering to her friend about how hot you are.”The oldest sister,Chanel, brazenly adds to which Candy eyes her with a disapproving look.
“Well , I’m married.” I lie and the table seems shocked at the revelation. I can feel y/n’s slight tug on the ear at once again misrepresenting our relationship but I can’t lie, she does the same thing and it's a solid enough lie. They ask to see the famed ‘Mrs Kujo’ and I unlock my screen to show them.
“Hold on , and she’s Kenyan too , Jotaro, you just keep surprising us.” Chanel nods at Andy who claims that she's ‘very beautiful’. It feels like a warm towel was on my heart with the way they ogle at her beauty.. I told them that she was a lawyer and the compliments kept flooding in . Martha, the mom, handed me her business card for she works as a consultant in the field.
After slight banter, I leave the hall early, promising the kids to dive one more time with them. I head back to get the book , some shades , a towel and a bucket hat. After reapplying the sunscreen and placing the business card in my suitcase . I head out.
I taught the twins a few more diving skills and as they were content, they let me off their shackles to continue reading by the beach and by the time the lamps of the gazebo are switched on, I’m reading the end of the book. Somewhat ironic she gave me this book unknowing that I’m mulling over making a personal change myself.
Mr Handsome Instructor approaches me and says that he has acquired the yacht for the remaining days of my stay for three hours a day at a considerable rate.I approve of this and he questions why learning how to steer a boat. To be honest, I just want to learn something new and I tell him so. Though somewhat unconvinced , Mutisye shrugs in acceptance and leaves for home after closing up the kayak warehouse.
While dining with the twins' family, they inform me that they were headed to Watamu early in the morning . I exchange numbers with the parents and Candy who is mildly interested in what I do and after another lighthearted dinner filled with funny anecdotes the twins supply on boarding life in high school including a potential arson incident, they bid me goodbye as we head to our respective rooms.
I decide to journal. I bought a small book back in Mombasa and I vividly recall y/n journaling a few times and I thought I should do the same. Reading what I write feels like uncasing my deepest thoughts and it feels relieving . Though still unsure, I know that I don't what my career path to be stagnant and it should evolve as my interests continue to develop.
Third Person Narration.
Jotaro woke up a bit later than expected though not too late to miss breakfast and be late for his boat lessons. He felt the hotel emptier now that his friends had left but the breakfast was absolutely delightful and he was grateful that the chef who was making personalised eggs, had made his omurice perfectly though he did question if eating it with bread is still omurice or just omu.
After a stomach filling breakfast, he quickly headed to the gym for a light workout. He didn’t get those muscles just for them to deflate during the vacation. After the gym, he headed to the beach and Mutisye was just moving the yacht closer to the beach. He gave Jotaro a warm smile and greeting and after insisting on wearing the heavy safety gear that Jotaro hated, he began teaching .
Jotaro, despite being competent in a lot of things, tends to error a lot whenever he’s learning something new. This was no different. The first hour was solely spent on repeated attempts to manoeuvre the boat and he slowly got the hang of moving the , at first, heavy transportation device during the later parts of the second hour of the boat . Considerable improvement had been made on the third. He wasn’t as loose with the wheel and at least he knew exactly when to pump in the brakes.
Mutisye was a proper instructor, firm enough when giving instruction yet willingly heaped compliments at the slightest display of improvement. After the third hour, Jotaro thanked him, though slightly embarrassed that he hasn’t drastically improved.
“There is a phrase in Swahili that says this, ‘Droplets of water gradually fill a bucket.’Your improvement might seem miniscule now, but will prove to be worthwhile in hindsight.”
The makings of a great teacher Mutisye continues to prove to be.
After a casual conversation once they alight from the boat,Mutisye asked,
“Hey, there’s a club that’s starting to pick up. Want to join me and my friends tonight?”
“I haven’t gone clubbing in a while so I don’t really know.”
“It’ll be fun, I’ll make sure you don’t get scammed out of a couple of drinks and there are really pretty women.”He wagged his eyes as he insisted on the preposition.
“Sure, but only for a few hours.” He finally agrees.
“Let me tell them that I’m adding someone.” He says as he pulls out his phone. Though Jotaro insists, Mutisye refuses to let him help anchor the yacht. After confirming the meeting time Jotaro headed for lunch. There is practically no one aside from the couple. The Americans are no longer there. However the buffet is still a delight. Jotaro decides on rice with coconut creamed fish and tomato soup and despite how seemingly hot it is, it remains comforting enough.
                                                       * * *
Jotaro decided on a simple shirt and shorts with sunnies atop his head, The orange sky cast a brillant golden glow in the ocean and as he slowly breathes in the salty air, he noticed Mutisye coming up to him with the most outrageous style he’s ever seen
He simply can’t look away from the distressed white vest and the almost miserable skinny jeans combo. Now that he’s looking at his face, he wears a slick back cap in the most awkward angle. And let's not mention the neon high tops, and the obviously fake large silver cuban chain link.Jotaro pondered whether he was being elitist by considering those are his only white outfits but he himself is wearing the cheapest outfit and does not look like every teen in the horrid early 10’s of the 21st century.
“Why are you dressed so boring? Do you not want girls looking your way?”Mutisye tsks whilst looking up and down in slight annoyance.
Jotaro simply thought that the man had the audacity to question him on his picking up skills despite Mutisye willingly walking out of the house looking like he jumped in a time machine to the present day. He simply answered that he’s not interested in picking up anyone and Mutisye guided him to his parked car at the hotel front.
“Too bad you’re married. The girls here love a man like you. It definitely helps that you are rich and handsome. Total Jackpot.” He stated as he coughed the engine.
Jotaro, attempting to lie the car seat a little lower says
“I’m really not interested. I have a wife you know.”
“Yeah and I have a girlfriend. What she doesn’t know won’t hurt her.”
Slimy. He remained silent at that and after a short drive , they pick up two of Mutisye’s friends waiting in an isolated, rusted bus stop after formal introductions and a sligh look of intrigue from one of the boys, they turn up the radio and amp up the pre gaming with cheerful yet heavily explicit dancehall and loud cheering whenever Mutisye overspeeds.
After an almost frightful drive on Jotaro’s part they finally arrive at the club. From outside the base and cheers are clear and despite the beautiful ocean view in the beachside club, no one was outside, too busy enjoying the almost blinding neon lights and sharing the same air. At least it's not too cramped, Jotaro thought as he tried to walk through the crowd.
Some of the patrons look at him and the group with muted smiles and longing stares. As soon as he sits, just barely able to sigh , a waitress in the most skin tight and cleavage showing outfit goes onto them . Jotaro orders a beer , cold and despite the glances sent as she takes the orders of the clearly drooling Mutisye, he ignored her, hard and she huffed while she walked away.
“Bro, that girl was interested in you! You should have flirted with her.” Jonah says .
“Not interested.”Jotaro inwardly questions why guys with biblical names are the most unhinged because Jonah decides to walk up to a girl, attempting to grind on her and she, after she  looked back at his cheeky smile , scoots closer to him and he sends a thumbs up to the table. Mutisye is the least interested in his friend's catch and instead sweet talks the waitress, already bored with Jotaro and she vibes with him heavily. After a few whispers and a heated stare , Mutisye rises up and says,
“I’ll be gone for a few.Take care of Mutua for me.”
Mutua,to Jotaro, is an enigma. He seems as lively as his friends yet does not engage in any clubbing activity except dancing . But he's a very pretty boy. Lean .yet muscular and tall. A bit heavier than a Kenyan trackstar but still not close enough to a heavyweight. After he comes back they get into talking. To this point, they are tipsy, Jotaro smiles as he talks and Muua continuously gives him a one up that is extremely provocative.
He finds out that Mutua’s  almost done with university and pursues a degree in mechanical engineering.Returns his heated stares willingly and the liquid courage whispered to his ear. Jotaro asks.
“How old are you?”
“26. Why?” Mutua coyishly replies, at this point it's been an hour since they last saw either of the other parties and the smile on his face is enough to tell Jotaro that Mutua is into him.
“Bathroom?” Jotaro asked with a slight smirk and Mutua eagerly rose up., following him with a hand slightly tugging his shirt.
                                                  * * *
They walk out of the bathroom more scruffled than they came in.Unknowingly to them Mutisye , who himself was still annoyed that the club owner had demanded him to get out , went out looking for them and found them heavy breathing whilst silently laughing outside the men’s washroom,
“Where have you guys been, I’ve been…oh?”He punctuates the end with a teasing lilt to his voice.
“So you decided to have some fun, where are the girls?” He questions , looking around the nearby area. Mutua’s hitches and Jotaro remained silent, smiles wiped off both of their faces
Mutua accidentally trips and Mutisye quickly helps him up , paraphrasing his anecdote. Turns out he was flirting with the club owner’s girl , complaining that it should be illegal for pot bellied men to still become younger girls sponsors*
“Hey why are you limping? Did you get hurt?”Mutisye worriedly glanced over to Mutua after the long rant that ended  in the parking lot. Jonah decided to go home with the girl from earlier and bids them.
“Hey , what happened? I told you to look over him Jotaro, he’s the fragile one here.” He irritatedly questions as he opens the door.Suddenly Mutisye stills, and with a sharp glare looks at both of them. He notices a bite mark on Jotaro’s neck , no lipstick. He realises that they don’t remotely smell like any strong women perfume his entire outfit is currently smothered with . A look of utter disgust stoically remained over his face , then he asked,
“Are you a f*****?”
Jotaro looks back at him with an eyebrow raised, a slight smirk endows his face and responds,
“What do you think?”
Mutua at this point was shaking, eyes downcasted , too scared to look at the glare Mutisye sent him.
“I thought you stopped this shit. It was fine in high school but even now, seriously? Why are you always whori-”
“HEY! What’s that supposed to mean? Can’t you accept him for who he is ?”
“I’m not speaking to you homo, I’m speaking to him . This is Kenya. F***are tortured and killed here. I’ve been telling him to get his act straight but he still doesn’t act better.”
“He chose to come out to you and you repay him by referring to him as a slur?” Jotaro questioned, silently fuming at how Mutisye forced Mutua in the car and locked him in.
“This is my cousin and therefore my responsibility. And It's not natural to act that way . Besides, wasn't he just a one night stand to you?”
At this Jotaro punches Mutisye’s face hard. But Musinya relented despite how his cheek almost hollowed out, he stayed up.
“I’ll not fight with you. Better yet I’m not speaking about this again. You’ll have someone else teach you how to steer the boat. Goodbye .”
“So you refuse to admit that you’re wrong for treating him this way?”
“I’m not wrong. He’s lucky I didn’t beat the gay out of him to begin with.BTW, wouldn’t your wife be disgusted to find her husband engaging in homosexual acts?”
“Firstly I don't have a wife, the woman I’ve been referring to as my wife is my close friend. Secondly ,She accepts my sexuality as it is unlike you, she doesn’t judge.”
“Maybe not to your face but she’s inwardly disgusted.” Mutisye huffed and got in the car, refusing to even say one last word for someone he had at least considered a friend at first.Mutua mouths an apology and Jotaro nods back and watches Mutisye desert him in the parking lot.
Back at his hotel room , he decided to call y/n
“Hey.”
“Hi, how’s your trip?”
“Great, just went clubbing.”
“Really was it fun?”She excitedly questioned
“Yeah” He lied with a wry smile.
“By the way. I wanted to ask you something.” He quickly added
“Sure.”
“You do know I’m queer right?”
“I mean, the ‘queer rights’ sticker on your laptop was a dead giveaway but yeah, I’ve always known.Thought you came out a while back , Is this like a second unveiling? Are you going through an existential crisis?”
“Oh…and you have no problem with it?”His heart beat like it was imploding on his ribcage.
“Your sexuality? Because of my religion? My faith has nothing to do with you or your orientation. Why bring this up? Is something wrong ?”y/n sat up, preparing her body to listen.
Jotaro narrated the incident. she listened keenly,a bit jealous at Mutua, and responded
“He’s the problem. A lot of youths in Kenya are accepting . He’s a relic when it comes to these matters.”
“So you aren’t mad at me for sleeping with him?”
“Isn't it your body ? I’m a bit confused.”
Nevermind. He thought, slightly annoyed at how unphased she was.
“Anyways I’m swearing off sex. I’m a celibate man. When I find the right person,I’ll break my celibacy.”
“Haven’t you been these past couple of months?” She mockingly questions.
“Haven’t you too?” He jeers back.
“I’m actually a virgin.” and the pin drop silence afterwards makes y/n slightly panic.
“Looking back,” Jotaro muses, “ The signs were there.”
And this ensues a collection of highly invasive questions that are completely out of character for Jotaro. But he’s still slightly shocked.
“It's okay , a bit shocking but nonetheless okay. It’s good to wait for the right person. I know I did.”He reassured
“Really, can you tell me who it was?”
“No.”He deadpanned.
“You literally just asked me if I’ve gone till third base.”
“Okay fair enough. They were my high school sweetheart.”
“Was it Noriaki?”She curiously considered
“It's absolutely despicable to make me even ponder about Noriaki as anything but a friend.” Jotaro replied, a slight cough expelling the inappropriate and to him, a tad disgusting, thought.
“Why?”She slowly smiled as she waited in response,
“He started washing his ass in college.” He  countered and y/n squealed in absolute laughter, muffled microphone leaving out the hitching of her voice as she attempted to compose herself.
“Nooooo why would you expose him like this?”She rhetorically questioned as she finally got her breathing to be less sporadic.
This cues in an entire onslaught against Noriaki and co. . Jotaro switched to video just to watch her fall to her bed in glee as he narrates bizarre events about his friend group. By the time the call ends, his heart felt like lava, a euphoric rush making his head woozy.

At one of my old jobs, I was the office manager at a small-medium accounting firm and in charge of (among other things) the administrative staff. Based on our business, we received mail for virtually all of our clients ranging from official tax notices to cable bills to account change notices for Netflix. Sorting the mail was at least half of the full time receptionist's job.
Leadership didn't get why 'sorting the mail' required so much time (we also were forbidden from asking clients to update their mailing information, so there were many, many, many items with special handling instructions as a result of weird history). They asked me to look into getting a program/machine to do it - feeding the mail through a scanner and having a computer sort and direct pdf scan versions to the appropriate parties.
This mail clerk is messed up - let's automate the mail room!
Even before screening for quality issues, the software that could do what we wanted was more than twice as expensive as the receptionist's annual salary to license. And while it would reduce time, it wouldn't eliminate it, more like... reduce it by a factor of 5 or generously 10.
It's different when people have to pay for all of the development, programming, &c. that goes into a product. The open, free AI options mask how expensive it is to get even these bad outputs.
"You can also brainstorm with other people"
I hear you, but there are a LOT of hurdles to this because whether or not people thing computers are better than humans, they sure are cheaper than humans for these sorts of minor outputs. It's more cost effective to use bad computers than normal people. It's more expensive to use good computers than normal people.
Your coworker's hourly wages (even without overhead) costs more than having a computer spit out a bunch of common topics that might apply. Having a human brainstorm with you costs more than ChatGPT's worst and best guess.
Okay. It's time for an AI rant.
My nephew is 13 years old. Whenever he writes a paper for school, I check it over and fix all of his mistakes for him. He said to me, "Maybe I'll proofread your paper for you in exchange," meaning one of the scholarly articles I write for work. I said, "Cool," and gave him the file. And he said, "Well, this is full of errors! See, you always say you have a lot to correct on my stuff, and look at all the stuff you got wrong!" And I said, surprised, "What? Where?" Because I'm sure there are typos in the draft I sent him, but not, like, that many.
And then he pointed to the screen and said, "Look at all the blue and red lines you have."
And I said, "Yeah, but those are wrong. Like, those are blue and red lines I'm ignoring because the computer is wrong." And then I paused and added, "You know you can't proofread a paper by just looking at the red and blue lines, right?" And he gave me the blankest look, because that clearly is EXACTLY what he thinks. And it became even clearer suddenly why, whenever I correct something on his paper, his immediate reaction is, "It didn't have a blue or red line."
There's a very good reason for that: THAT'S BECAUSE THE COMPUTER ISN'T SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT IT WAS WRONG.
I am so tired of being sold the idea that computers are better than humans and so we should just outsource everything to them, which is clearly the lesson my nephew is absorbing in U.S. middle school. COMPUTERS ARE NOT BETTER THAN HUMANS. Like, maybe they are better at humans at crawling through rubble to find people trapped inside. They are also better at preserving things in a searchable format. Things like that. Very limited circumstances.
I don't want to sound alarmist but everything I hear about people using generative AI freaks me out. It's not just that I'm freaked out by people being like, "I use it to write novels!" (Although I don't see how they do, I have tried to have it write fiction for me and the output was truly terrible.) But I recognize my bias around creative writing and so no one needs to credit my views on artificial writing. But! Other things are alarming, too! "I use it to brainstorm x, y, or z." But...why? Why not just...use your own brain...to...brain...storm? The computer doesn't even have a brain to brainstorm with! And you might be like, "But it comes up with things that my brain would never think of!" So would other people! You could also brainstorm with other people! Or even through Google to see what other people have thought before you (not AI). Please don't belittle the wonder of thinking.
I just feel like the marketing around generative AI boils down to "Wouldn't it be easier not to use your own brain to think about things?" Everyone. No. It would not be. Please just trust me on this. I'm not just an old person who is out of touch with technology or something. I promise. USE YOUR BRAINS. IT WILL BE OKAY.

Is Virtual Office Space the Key to Modern Business Growth?
Tumblr media
In the fast-paced digital era, businesses must adapt to innovative solutions to maintain a competitive edge. One such solution is virtual office space for rent, a concept revolutionizing how businesses operate and expand. If you’re looking to unlock your company’s growth potential, virtual office spaces could be the answer. In this blog, we’ll explore the transformative benefits of virtual offices, why they’re becoming a cornerstone for modern business growth, and how Valdosta Office Suites is leading the charge.
Why Businesses Are Embracing Virtual Office Space
Virtual office spaces combine the advantages of professional office services with the flexibility of remote work. This hybrid approach offers businesses a physical address and professional amenities without the overhead costs associated with maintaining a traditional office. The result? A smarter, more cost-effective way to run a business.
Here’s why more businesses are turning to virtual office space for rent:
1. Cost Efficiency: Traditional office spaces come with hefty lease agreements, utilities, and maintenance costs. A virtual office eliminates these expenses while still providing a professional business address and access to meeting rooms.
2. Flexibility: Whether you’re an entrepreneur or part of a growing team, virtual office solutions adapt to your needs. They’re perfect for businesses looking to expand into new markets without the logistical challenges of physical relocation.
3. Professional Image: A virtual office provides a credible business address, making your company appear more established and trustworthy to clients and partners.
4. Increased Productivity: Employees can work remotely while having access to on-demand office facilities for collaboration or meetings, boosting morale and efficiency.
Benefits of Virtual Office Space for Rent with Valdosta Office Suites

I had the day of all time seriously this full moon is nuts like first of all I got lost at my new work building (we moved... for reasons unknown... in this gigantic futuristic labyrinth of a building that's outside the city?) and I was the only one who was late. The receptionist didn't give me a card like she gave everyone else apparently, and my access badge doesn't work anymore and the team who was supposed to assist me in getting a new one didn't answer all day. This meant I couldn't access NOR exit the building without the help of my coworkers, which also meant I didn't eat anything all day. Sure, I could've asked someone for help, but access badges are like a virtual card. On our PHONES. I just didn't want to ask people to give me their phones so I can go to the store. Idk why it seemed like such an extravagant request, now it just sounds normal for someone who has zero means of circulation. In or out of the workplace. Anyway, I also sat at the only desk in the entire office that didn't have a docking station. And again I had to ask for a charger from someone. At last around 3 pm I found some dry and old sesame rye bread. They literally moved them from the old office like a piece of furniture, they're that ancient. So I took a few from the cupboard, and made myself a cup of tea. It tasted like drywall and paint water. THEN my work best friend informed me that she found another job and next week will be her last. Which tbh I should have expected because she told me about this new job last month and even sent me the link so I could apply too, but I didn't. Honestly I don't even know why. Just a coward. And to top it all off, the fight I've been having with my boyfriend the entire week is only getting worse. Last night he started telling me about how he senses he's no longer good enough for me, and that I don't want to be with him anymore, and all I could tell him before going to bed was that I've been noticing some incompatibilities between us, and questioning things. And today he started minimizing the issues I've been raising again, and we again couldn't have an actual conversation. Because he kept repeating the same stuff he told me on Tuesday while I was at the store. And after the day I'd just had I was so exhausted that I genuinely couldn't be bothered jumping backwards into the argument for him. I had takeout for dinner, I got a horrible migraine, I got high and watched a twitch stream, and I died in the binding of isaac. Honestly I'm so scared. I'm starting to feel crazier and crazier. There's so much happening and I feel alone. I feel like I'm forgetting how to be around people, what to be like. I feel unlikable and dirty and just wrong. I want to believe none of that is true but it's really hard. I'm trying to keep it together.

Virtual Office vs. Flex Office: Which Is Right for Your Business in Warsaw?
Tumblr media
As Warsaw continues to establish itself as a vibrant business hub, companies of all sizes are looking for innovative ways to maintain a professional presence without committing to traditional office leases. Two increasingly popular options are virtual offices and flex offices. Each solution offers its own benefits, but the choice between a virtual office and a flex office largely depends on the specific needs of the business, its operational style, and its budget. In this article, we’ll dive into the key aspects of virtual and flex offices, comparing their features, advantages, and potential drawbacks to help you determine the best option for your business in Warsaw.
1. Understanding Virtual Offices: The Basics
A virtual office provides businesses with an official address, mail handling services, and often call answering support, without requiring a physical workspace. This model is ideal for companies that operate remotely or do not need a dedicated physical office. Key features of a virtual office include:
Prestigious business address in a prime location
Mail forwarding and handling services
Call answering services with a dedicated receptionist
On-demand access to meeting rooms or office spaces when needed
Virtual offices are typically chosen by businesses that need a professional presence in Warsaw without the expenses associated with a physical office. These businesses can operate from anywhere while benefiting from the credibility and administrative support offered by a well-located address.
2. Understanding Flex Offices: The Basics
A flex office—also known as a flexible or co-working office—provides businesses with physical office space that can be used on-demand, often with short-term leases and the option to scale up or down as needed. Unlike virtual offices, flex offices provide dedicated desks or workstations, shared amenities, and social areas. Features of flex offices often include:
Physical desks and workstations available in shared or private spaces
Meeting rooms, conference rooms, and breakout areas for collaboration
Access to amenities such as high-speed internet, office supplies, and printing
Networking opportunities with other professionals in the shared workspace
Flex offices are ideal for businesses that need occasional access to a physical workspace or benefit from an environment conducive to collaboration. They’re particularly popular with startups, freelancers, and remote workers who want a flexible but tangible workspace.
3. Cost Comparison: Virtual Office vs. Flex Office
One of the main reasons companies choose alternative office solutions is to save on costs, flex office warsaw and the financial differences between virtual and flex offices can be significant.
Virtual offices are generally the most affordable option, as they don’t require physical space. Businesses only pay for the address, mail handling, and optional phone services, making it a cost-effective choice for small businesses, freelancers, and startups. Fees are typically lower and may vary depending on the location and additional services like meeting room access.
Flex offices, while more affordable than traditional office leases, are costlier than virtual offices because they offer physical space and shared amenities. Costs are based on the size of the space needed and the location within Warsaw. For example, businesses can choose from private offices, open workstations, or even hot desks. Flex office rates generally include all utilities, internet, and cleaning, so businesses get a complete office solution at a fraction of the cost of a private lease.
If budget is a primary concern and physical space is not required, a virtual office may be the better choice. However, if a team needs occasional office access, a flex office offers more value through shared resources and social spaces.
4. Flexibility and Scalability
Both virtual and flex offices provide flexibility, but the extent and nature of this flexibility differ.
Virtual offices offer complete flexibility in terms of location and scalability. Businesses can maintain a Warsaw presence while operating from anywhere in the world, and there are typically no limits on the number of employees using the virtual office address. Virtual offices can easily accommodate a company’s growth without any physical limitations.
Flex offices provide physical scalability, meaning businesses can increase or decrease the number of desks or workstations as their team size fluctuates. Flex offices are highly adaptable, allowing companies to expand to larger spaces within the same building or reduce space if necessary. However, since flex offices require physical space, availability may be limited, and scaling could depend on the provider’s capacity to accommodate additional workspace.
For companies with unpredictable or seasonal team sizes, flex offices offer a unique advantage. However, for businesses that prioritize the ability to work remotely from any location, a virtual office offers maximum flexibility.
5. Employee Productivity and Collaboration
The working environment plays a significant role in employee productivity and collaboration, and this is a key consideration when deciding between a virtual and a flex office.
Virtual offices suit businesses that are already set up for remote work. Employees work from home or other locations, and communication happens through digital tools such as video conferencing and chat platforms. This setup allows employees to work from environments where they feel most comfortable, often increasing productivity. However, it may lack the spontaneous collaboration that comes with a physical space, which could be a drawback for teams that rely heavily on in-person interaction.
Flex offices, on the other hand, foster collaboration and networking by offering shared spaces where team members can work together. In a flex office, employees can work side by side, exchange ideas, and benefit from direct interactions. Many flex office spaces also host community events, creating additional opportunities for networking and collaboration among different companies. This setup can be especially beneficial for startups or teams working on projects that require frequent brainstorming and team discussions.
Ultimately, if team collaboration is essential, a flex office can offer a productive environment. If individual productivity and remote flexibility are more important, a virtual office may be the better choice.
6. Business Image and Professionalism
The choice between a virtual office and a flex office can influence how a business is perceived by clients and partners.
Virtual offices provide a professional business address in a prime Warsaw location, which can be listed on the website, business cards, and marketing materials. This helps create a credible business image without the need for a physical workspace. Many virtual office providers also offer phone answering services and on-demand meeting rooms, allowing businesses to maintain a polished appearance.
Flex offices offer a physical address and an actual workspace, which may be necessary for client meetings or industry events. Having a dedicated workspace in a reputable building can enhance a company’s image, especially when the office is in a desirable location. Flex offices also give businesses the ability to showcase their work environment to clients, adding a personal touch.
If client-facing interactions are frequent, a flex office might present a more professional image. For businesses that rarely require in-person meetings, a virtual office offers sufficient professionalism through a recognizable business address.
7. Networking and Community Access
Both virtual and flex offices in Warsaw often provide access to a business community, though the level of interaction differs.
Virtual office providers may host occasional networking events, online forums, or virtual communities. This setup allows businesses to connect with other professionals and entrepreneurs, though opportunities for face-to-face networking are more limited.
Flex offices, particularly in co-working spaces, offer more organic networking and community-building opportunities. Employees from different companies work side by side, allowing for spontaneous conversations and collaborations. Many flex office providers also organize community events, social hours, and industry workshops, which foster connections and provide additional value for tenants.
If networking is a key aspect of the business strategy, a flex office can offer a more supportive community environment. However, a virtual office can still offer networking opportunities through hosted events and digital channels.
8. Environmental Impact and Corporate Social Responsibility
Many businesses today are focused on reducing their environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices, and both virtual and flex offices offer unique advantages in this area.
Virtual offices are highly sustainable as they don’t require physical office space. By operating remotely, businesses reduce the need for commuting, energy consumption, and office waste, lowering their overall carbon footprint. This model supports companies that want to contribute to environmental sustainability while maintaining their operational effectiveness.
Flex offices also contribute to sustainability by offering shared resources, reducing waste, and maximizing space utilization. Many co-working spaces are designed with eco-friendly principles, using energy-efficient lighting, green building materials, and recycling initiatives. Employees may still commute to work, but these shared spaces often implement sustainable practices that reduce the environmental impact of individual companies.
If reducing carbon footprint is a priority, a virtual office offers the most sustainable option. Flex offices can also support environmental goals through shared resources and eco-conscious practices.
Conclusion: Choosing the Right Office Solution in Warsaw
When deciding between a virtual office and a flex office in Warsaw, businesses should consider factors such as budget, the need for physical space, team collaboration requirements, and desired professional image. A virtual office is ideal for companies that operate remotely, value flexibility, and want to reduce costs without sacrificing professionalism. It’s especially suitable for startups, freelancers, and small businesses with limited face-to-face client interactions.
A flex office, on the other hand, is ideal for businesses that benefit from occasional access to physical space, in-person collaboration, and networking opportunities. It’s well-suited for teams that need a tangible work environment and for businesses that meet with clients regularly or benefit from a vibrant, community-driven workspace.
Ultimately, both virtual and flex offices provide flexible and cost-effective solutions that allow businesses to establish and grow in Warsaw’s dynamic market. The right choice depends on the unique needs and goals of each business, with both options offering significant advantages in today’s evolving work environment.
