Restaurant or Professional Caterers for your event?
Don’t know whether to order food from a restaurant that caters or book a caterer for your event? Through professional caterer!
If you are unsure about what to do regarding arranging food for your event, then you have come to the right place. We will help you make the right decision regarding what factors to take into account for such decisions as well as highlight the crucial differences between Caterers and Restaurant catering. Usually the toss up is between ordering food in bulk from a restaurant or hire a caterer to service your event.
Catering Menu Options: (RestaurantCatering vsCatering Service):
Restaurants have their standard menus that tend to be limited & do not offer a lot of options. For your special event you would want the food also to be unique & special that isn’t there on the regular food menu that can be found in any restaurant. On the other hand with a professional catering service, you are spoilt for choice. A professional caterer who has been in the business for some time & servicing their customers’ custom requirements will have an extensive menu from various cuisines that will suit the palates of a wide range of people.  Also, they will be more likely to accommodate most of your requirements as catering service is a highly personalized service. For example, Caterers offer hundreds of Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian dishes from a variety of cuisines for themed events, corporate events or house functions etc.
Presentation (Restaurant Catering vsCatering Service):
Tumblr media
Restaurants staff may be good at food presentation for a-la-carte meals in their restaurants but when it comes to servicing bulk food orders, they fall short even in buffets. A professional caterer will ensure that the presentation of food is enhanced multifold through the tasteful decoration of food counters. This is the advantage that comes with the experience of working in a totally new environment each time.
Ambiance (Restaurant Catering vsCatering Service):
Tumblr media
Restaurants have a standard and comfortable environment i.e, working from their own restaurant kitchen where options for creativity are limited. On the other hand, a full-fledged catering service has hands-on experience working in different locations under different constraints for different clients with different requirements for event decorations & hence caterers know how to push their limits to ensure tasteful decoration of food counters & the event venue in keeping with the mood of the party/event.
Restaurant Staff vsCatering Staff:
Tumblr media
When it comes to Restaurant Staff, attending to an order of large gatherings is an intimidating experience for them as their staff is usually experienced to handle a steady inflow of diners at a time in their restaurant rather than a huge contingent of people; that is the precise reason why we hear so many complaints regarding slow service in even popular restaurants. And definitely, You, as a host, do not want to take any chance with leaving your guests hungry & under-serviced for want of experienced staff. On the other hand, a full-fledged catering service has hands-on experience working in different locations under different constraints for different clients & hence they know how to push the limits to ensure the customer is served properly & in time.
Now, while it does seem that caterers are well suited for servicing bulk food orders, it can become slightly daunting as regards how to select one. But worry not, since yumEATS can help you in this crucial selection of catering service provider. yumEATS has many food service providers with different specialisations & expertise onboarded with them and thus offer you with a wide range of choice. With our expertise gleaned from working with an increasingly growing list of clientele, we are well versed with how to handle any event in the most professional way so as to ensuring a successful event for you. We also have partnerships with well reputed event management agencies that will work with us to ensureIf you decide on hiring the Best Catering Service in Hyderabad for  your events such as your kid’s birthday party/Puja Function/any house party or society function or for that matter any corporate event, you should consider yumEATS as we will assure you of a smooth and stress-free event all throughout so you and your guests can enjoy every moment of the occasion. Last Friday I had a chance to visit Barbeque Pride with my roommate and sister. I booked a table for three from zomato. Our booking was for 9:30 P.M. We barely reached at time. The restaurant is on the 3rd floor. After getting off the lift we could see some boys and girls gathering at the entrance. We showed up our booking confirmation message and got the table in 5 minutes. I don’t know how much it is crowded on a regular day but I would recommend you to have your reservation beforehand to be on the safe side.
The ambiance is quite nice and there is a lot of space around the sitting arrangements. This place serves mainly buffet. So here was the menu for the day we visited Barbeque Pride.
Starters: (Non-veg)
Andhra spicy prawns : We did eat one prawn dish in starter which was good. It was not spicy though! So I can’t tell if it was Andhra “Spicy” Prawns at all. Parslay Fish, Amritsari Fish : Comparing with other similar restaurants, I found the fish starters better. Karachi Botti : This was simply good. Mirch Masala Wing : This is basically spicy chicken wings, didn’t like it that much Guntur Chicken : Among the chicken starters, this was the best. I have had so many chicken dishes in my life but this got me in whole different level. It was a perfect blend of spices, almost tasted like some pickle. Mutton Galouti Kebab : I tried galouti kebab for the first time and I have never tasted something so good in my life. The mutton was so tender and mildly spiced that it melted in the mouth.
Starters: (Veg)
I don’t understand why the veg starters are always ignored. Like there should be equally tasty starters for vegetarian fellows! In the veg section they had-
Mongolian cottage cheese : It’s just tandoori paneer(cheese) Vietnamese mushroom : This wasn’t available. Tandoori bagicha : They didn’t serve it. BBQ Pineapple : This is grilled pineapple. This normally tastes good. I assume the pineapple they particularly used wasn’t of the best quality. Long stick pineapple : They didn’t serve it. Corn salt and paper : This is a common starter we get everywhere, This was fine Jamaican potato : This one stole the show. We loved it so much that we asked to repeat this one.
They also served grilled watermelon, which tasted nothing different from the regular ones. It wasn’t on the menu.
Soup:
They served Veg Hot and Sour soup and Chicken brown Garlic soup.
Chinese Non-veg:
In this section they had Chicken Yellow Thai Curry(Isn’t that Thai rather than Chinese?!), Chicken fried rice and chicken schezwan noodles. It tasted just fine.
Chinese Veg:
In this section they had Veg Thai rice, Veg Hakka Noodles and Veg Manchurian Curry. I couldn’t manage to taste them but here’s a photo of how it looked like.
Italian Non-veg:
In Italian non-veg, they offered chicken lasagna and chicken pasta. I didn’t find the lasagna cheesy enough. Taste wise it was fine. The pasta was okayish.
Italian Veg:
Here we had veg risotto and veg pasta. The risotto was fine. Surprising the veg pasta was better than the chicken one.
Lasagna, Chicken Pasta
Veg Risotto, Pasta
By this time, we were almost full. We were yet to taste half of the dishes. For the Indian main course we could just taste the dishes to spare a little space for the desserts!
Indian Non-veg:
Chicken Dum Biriyani : This is Hyderabadi special biriyani, the smell is everything!
Mutton keema Biriyani : In a buffet, this was an uncommon thing to see. It had minced mutton pieces and tasted better than the previous one.
Nihari Gosht, Murgh Baghmati : They are just fine to accompany the biriyani, Egg Masala : Another dish that I don’t usually see in buffet. It was good though Fish pulusu : South Indian style fish curry. A bunch of Bengalis can never be impressed with that. So I’m not commenting on the taste.
Chicken Dum Biriyani
Mutton Keema Biriyani
Egg curry, Fish
Chicken Main Couse (Indian)
Indian Veg:
I didn’t have anything from this section but still I am giving you the menu Veg Dum Biriyani Steam Rice (Plain Rice) Sambar Pachhi pulusu Jeera Rice Paneer Makhanwala (Buttery chees) Dal (Lentil) Doodhi Kofta Curry Kurkure bhindi (Okra / Ladies Finger fry) Dal panchratan (Lentil with premium spices!)
Paneer, Dudhi Kofta, Veg Jalfrezi
Bhindi, dal
Jeera Rice, Sambar
Veg Biriyani, Plain White Rice
The menu is little longer for the veg section but I felt like most of them are like regualr food that people have on regular basis.
The Live Counter:
Dosa lovers, pay attention! This place has live dosa counter as well. In wish grill you can have emu, rabbit, octopus, chicken, squid, prawns, egg and/or paneer(cheese), broccoli, Corn, mushroom, baby corn. Suprisngly they had live pizza counter that baked mini pizza with your choice of topping!
Desserts:
These are desserts available- Chocolate brownie – Good. Assorted Pastry – Okayish. Mix fruit cheese cake – Good. Angoori gulab jamun – Nothing can beat the taste of hot gulab jamun. Jalebi – Crispy and hot, Served just taking out of the sugar syrup Fruit custard – good Fresh cut fruit – Watermelon, Muskmelon (did not eat) Kesari phirni– Must try Chocolate pie – good Gajar ka halwa – Must try Stone ice cream – Customization was available for this. Ours was good.
Gajar Ka Halwa, Jalebi, Gulab Jamun
Ice Cream
Mixed Fruit Pastry
Chocolate Pie
Cheese Cake
Fruit Custard
Kesari Phirni
Pani puri
All in one
Also there was pani puri in chat section. What else you can ask more for? Apart from that we ordered soft drinks to wash it down. Obviously it is not possible to eat this insane amount of food every now and then! Do I want to come back here for more? Yes I do!
Barbeque Pride, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad Review One of the most popular buffet restaurants in Hyderabad. It's got 4.6 out of 5 rating on Zomato. But is it worth the rating? Let's check it out! Last Friday I had a chance to visit Barbeque Pride with my roommate and sister. I booked a table for three from zomato.

Top Restaurants in Jayanagar 4th Block | Bangalore
Top Restaurants in Jayanagar 4th Block | Bangalore
Give yourself a break from all that shopping and try out these great food joints in Jayanagar 4th block, Bangalore.
Jayanagar is one of Bangalore’s oldest and most affluent neighbourhoods. With its wide roads, well planned residential and commercial areas, Jayanagar is a popular hub for families and students. Jayanagar 4th block has long been hailed as one of the busiest shopping areas of Bangalore. And where there are shops, there have to be some pretty great restaurants to give shoppers a place to rest and grab a bite to eat.
While Jayanagar 4th block is known for being a vegetarian’s paradise, there have been plenty of non vegetarian options also open up. From casual snacking joints to fine dining restaurants, there are plenty of different kinds of eateries that you can check out here. We sent out our scouts to find the best restaurants in Jayanagar 4th block, Bangalore. Read on to find out which ones they are and why they are so awesome!
Try Naati Style Cuisine at New Prashanth Hotels
Taaza Thindi
Taaza Thindi translates to fresh snacks. And they don’t get fresher than what they serve right here! This restaurant is nestled in a 4 lane street at Jayanagar, making it easy to walk to after a relaxing morning stroll.
The food ordering system follows a coupon system, which is surprisingly well managed. You will find a long line of people waiting to purchase a coupon, but the line moves along quickly so that you are seated at a table in no time. The best meals to order here are the dosa’s, idli’s, and khara bath. Once you have your coupons ready you can collect the food from respectiv counters.
The management should be lauded for maintaining an extremely hygienic restaurant. The prices are also perfect, with a small complete meal costing no more than Rs 60.
The food here is divine. Even though the menu options are limited, it is clear to see that a lot of care and quality has gone into making sure each of the items are the best. The dosa’s are crispy and perfect, laden with butter making them absolutely delicious to savour. The idli’s are soft and heavenly, melting in your mouth and are paired with the perfect chutney. The vada’s are also a must-try as they are crisp and fresh, just the way God intended! While all the other items on the menu are also wonderful to taste, their filter coffee goes well with each and every item.
Try out Taaza Thindi for a satisfying Sunday breakfast.
New Prashanth Hotels – Jayanagar 4th Block
If you are in Jayanagar 4th block for the afternoon, you should try out a naati style restaurant. These restaurants are ubiquitous in Bangalore and are well known for serving authentic Karnataka style cuisine. Naati style is a form of Karnataka local cuisine, which makes the use of fresh ingredients prepared from scratch.
New Prashanth Hotel's naati style restaurant has several outlets across Bangalore. The low cost food makes it an attractive find, with a meal for two costing as low as Rs. 500. The food here is really good, which is why this restaurant is so popular among patrons.
If you like the wild side of Indian cooking, you must try the boti fry here. Boti fry is a spicy mutton dish that is packed with spices and flavours that make it delectable to patrons. Visit this place a couple of times so that you can taste every item on the menu - you certainly wouldn’t regret it.

Enjoy the spicy fare and get here early on weekdays to avoid the crowd!
 Meghana Foods
Ask anyone where they can find the best biryani in town and they are bound to name Meghana Foods in their top ten list. It has long been popular for having the best Hyderabad / Andhra style biryani in town and even though these are priced on the higher side, people do not mind shelling out for the amazing flavour.
Meghana Foods have several branches all over Bangalore, and Jayanagar is one of them. The 4th block branch is always crowded, as are all the other branches in Bangalore. Expect a 10 - 15 minute wait for a seat at this restaurant. The ambience is pleasant enough with mood lighting and chandeliers. There are sofa style seats available as well as individual chairs at the tables here.
The best item on the menu is undeniably the boneless chicken biryani. All the biryanis are made with the finest basmati rice so that the rice is as flavourful as the meat. The flavour packed biryani is filled with boneless chicken chunks that are layered on the top as well as throughout the dish. The Meghana special biryani is also a must-try with yellow gravy and an absolutely delicious taste. Even the vegetarian options taste great here.
The Meghana chicken 555 is also a popular dish here. Try this the next time you want to treat yourself to a sumptuous biryani dinner!
Halli Jonne Biryani
While we are on the subject of biryanis, we highly recommend Halli Jonne Biryani which is also based in Jayanagar 4th block. This is ideal for anyone who has always wanted to try this local authentic biryani style and is very popular with the local residents.
The restaurant is a self service style restaurant so do not expect much by way of service or ambience. The place tends to get crowded, so it is advisable to get here early if you want to grab a seat.
Jonne biryani is supposed to be the older name for donne biryani. Like the other biryani, it is served in a leaf bowl and is prepared with jeera samba rice. Be warned that jonne biryani has an authentic flavour that is not as masala-filled as the other biryanis available in the city. The flavour is comparably milder but it is a great distinct, taste. You can try out the mutton as well as chicken dishes here. The naati chicken gravy is also perfectly prepared.
The dishes are served in a simple, authentic way that just adds to the charm of this restaurant. We highly recommend that you head here for lunch when you are in the mood to try one of the vintage flavours of the city.
Davangere Benne Dosa Hotel
The Davangere benne dosa is the most sought after type of dosa in Bangalore. It’s common enough to find people who are constantly on the lookout for the perfect buttered up dosa in Bangalore. These joints are mostly tiny, seat few patrons but have piping hot dosas that are served with loads of butter.
The Davangere Benne Dose Hotel in Jayanagar 4th block was opened relatively recently but is highly popular with people who come to Jayanagar. This is the ideal place to come by when you want an instant meal that is delicious and freshly prepared. There are different types of dosa along with the traditional benne dosa. We highly recommend the open dosa. This is also served with butter but there is also podi that is sprinkled on it to make it just the right amount of crunchy and spicy.
Other types of dosas available here are the onion dosa, set dosa, and a lot more on the list. They also serve soft and fluffy idli here. At lunchtime, you can expect to enjoy meals here with rice, sambar and buttermilk. In the evening you can enjoy the paddus, which take a little longer to make and serve but are totally worth it anyway.
This place is small but definitely worth a try, especially to sample the famous benne dosa.
 Shree Venkateshwara North Karnataka Hotel
North Karnataka food hardly finds a place on the typical Bangalorean’s menu simply because of all the other food options out there. If you haven’t tried out North Karnataka cuisine yet, you are missing out! With akki roti and holige, and many more delicacies on offer, you need to head to Shree Venkateshwara North Karnataka Hotel in Jayanagar.
The top dishes that Shree Venkateshwara North Karnataka Hotel serves are jowar roti, saag and various delicious vegetable dishes. You can have a rich sampling of all their dishes with a tall glass of majige, which is the Karnataka style of spiced buttermilk. It’s just what your tummy needs on a hot day!
The best part about Shree Venkateshwara is that it is priced quite reasonably. You can enjoy a full meal here for two people that would not cost more than Rs 200. The ambience is simple and the restaurant is very hygienic. It is very popular and gets crowded so you will need to wait to be seated. The food is spicy but excellent, especially if you want to get the flavour of North Karnataka without travelling there.
Try out Shree Venkateshwara for the finest North Karnataka food for your lunch or dinner out.
 Maiyas
A list of restaurants in Jayanagar 4th block would be incomplete without a mention of this iconic food brand. Maiyas is famous in Bangalore for its vegetarian delights that are a pleasant mix of South Indian food and modern pastries.
Maiyas has long been hailed as the go-to place for delicious dosa’s and Mangalore bondas. You can expect all the offerings on the menu to be prepared fresh and tasty, living up to the iconic Maiyas brand. Thanks to its popularity, the place is always packed with food lovers, so you will need to come in with plenty of time at disposal, so you can patiently wait for a table. The crispy dosa’s and delicious Kesari bath are prepared in the typical South Indian style making them unbeatable. The special meals section is also a great place to try the thali menus.
The prices here are also unbeatable. A typical meal for two costs less than Rs 200, making it a very reasonable affair. The restaurant is self service, mostly, and serving of food is done in batches once everyone is seated. You feel like you are part of the old Bangalore again.
Try out Maiyas to try out a legendary restaurant in Bangalore that has long been a favourite of residents.
Chutney Chang
For those who love long buffets, or just want to organise the perfect team outings, Chutney Chang in Jayanagar is just the place to visit. It is touted to have the largest buffet spread in Bangalore, numbering over 80 different dishes.
If you don’t believe us, just walk into the Chutney Chang at the Cosmopolitan Club in Jayanagar. The cuisine here is Indo-Chinese, which is basically the kind of cuisine that all Indians love, right? There is a perfect mix of Indian dishes as well as Chinese dishes in vegetarian as well as non vegetarian. There are North Indian dishes as well as live kebab counters with chicken, mutton and seafood. On the Chinese side, the live counters prepare momos, grills and there is also a chaat counter.
What’s great is that after all that gorging on the many buffet options for the main course, you also have an extensive dessert dishes to choose from. There are several creative options like chocolate wontons and honey noodles, as well as the traditional sweet dishes like halwas and gulab jamun. There is even a chocolate fountain for those who really want to feel spoiled!
The prices for the buffet are reasonably priced, and they also serve cocktails! Enjoy your time at Chutney Chang with family and friends.
 In Conclusion
We’ve given you plenty of restaurants to find great food in Jayanagar 4th block here, which should give you a good set to choose from whether you are in the mood for vegetarian or non vegetarian. The various cuisines in Jayanagar are what makes it popular with foodies. Try out some of these restaurants and let your taste buds feast on the amazing dishes here.

Indian food in Charlotte has gone from good to better over the recent months. You find your most preferred Indian food in sithararestaurant.com. Moreover, every visit to Sithara Charlotte will be a new experience. You find the best Indian recipes on the menu. It will satisfy your taste buds that will make you want to return for more helpings. The restaurant is located in a busy complex combined with a lot of restaurants. There is enough parking space for cars and vehicles. The interiors are authentically Indian with decent furniture and ecological atmosphere. There is enough space to move around freely during buffet lunch and dinner.
Chettinadu Chicken Curry
Sithara Indian restaurant near me serves Indian style food and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. You will be given a table right away. MedhuVadai (an Indian snack) is a specialty here at breakfast. It comes with side dishes of sambar and two chutneys. This is just an average start to your morning breakfast. Next, the Chettinadu chicken curry, (breads) Naans and romalirotis are a great combination at lunch time. It goes well with steamed rice too. It is sufficient for two and tastes great. It may be too spicy to handle. Make sure you order the right spice levels. Chettinadu curries are known for the spices and the flavors it brings. Anyone will love it and would return for this alone.
Deserts
The exceptional taste of food in Sithara Indian Restaurant Charlotte NC is awesome. The restaurant is hosting Hyderabad style Indian food, which had haleems and biryani on its menu. At the end the desert(known as carrot halwa) is the sweetest experience after a spicy meal.Overall, it will be a very satisfying visit. You will be definitely return and will recommend to others.
Every country has its own cuisine and Indians food is no different. So, exactly what makes it most preferred at Sithara Charlotte? It is the quantity of food you get when you place an order. The quality is great as well. Therefore, a combination of both, especially when you are hungry will substantiate what you eat.You may wonder why continental menu is skipped over Indian food. One reason, they have excellent food making skills.

The food at Sithara Indian Cuisine charlotte is tasty with wealth of spices and authentic Indian flavors, which is a culinary delight. The traditional Indian dishes are a favorite here. A well-balanced diet of Indian food also has medicinal properties. The vegetarian dishes are free of fat and full of protein. They are the leafy vegetable dishes that are seasoned with oil. It is available in stew type, which can be taken with bread as well. “Part of the secret of success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside.” ― Mark Twain
Ambiance – 4/5 | Food – 4.5/5 | Service – 4/5
The Rayalaseema region on Andhra Pradesh is known for its tangy, hot and spicy taste, the cooking is very diverse due to the vast spread of the people and varied topological regions. Andhra Pradesh state is the leading producer of red chili, rice and Telangana state is millets in India influences the liberal use of spices — making the food one of the richest and spiciest in the world. Vegetarian as well as meat and seafood (coastal areas) feature prominently on the menus.
After staying in Hyderabad for 19 years now,  I have become used to this cuisine though not completely used to the spice levels. I do enjoy spicy food occasionally. Unluckily, there were not a good place I can head out to for some spicy craving near to my home or office. When the news of Kritunga came to me, I was very excited. I used to be regular when I lived in Madhapur as they had a branch beside the Indian Oil Petrol Pump.

However, over the period of time with falling standards of hygiene, I skipped going to any of the Kritunga around. So the news was like a Secret Santa gift for many who had experienced the brand earlier. As you walk in the brand new place, you get a very royal vibe with excellently remodelled to match the essence of the cuisine served here. The tables are neatly spaced and laid out. There is also a cozy corner with a view. Though the cuisine might not support a romantic date but that corner will be my favourite for a quick meal watching the streets.

We were part of the pre-launch event by Hyderabad Foodies Club a day before the actual launch. Though the restaurant will be serving à la carte, however exclusively for the event they arranged a buffet for us.
Though there was a variety of items on the buffet, I would like to highlight some of the items from the menu for which Kritunga is the go to place. The Paya Shorba served to us was probably among the best I have had in Hyderabad. I could literally feel the spice blast in mouth with every spoon, just the way you would like when you are recovering from sore throat.
In the starters, I liked 2 items which were very unique and distinct is taste. For the vegetarians, we had Vankaya Bajji and for the non-vegetarians we had Kamju Roast. Medium sized brinjals were stuffed with masala, dipped in batter and deep fried to crispness. The Kamju (Quail Bird – Japanese family) is a very common delicacy due to its succulent meat and soft bones. The roasted birds were crisped with a perfect layering of cornflour and food color.

While these were the highlights for me, we had few others served to us namely Kurnool Kodi Pakoodi, Mutton Roast, Natu Kodi Fry, Kaaram Royyala Vepudu, Alasanda Vada, Karvepaku Paneer Seekulu, Anasa Pandu Kaaram Podi Seekulu & few more.
As we were already high on the starters, it was time to indulge into the main courses which had a plethora of items showcased for us. So, I picked up few of them which are the best combos to be tried. The Natu Kodi Pulusu stands to be the perfect date all types of Pulavs served on that day (Veg Pulav, Kodi Dum Pulav & Mamsam Dum Pulav). The Natu Kodi Pulusu will stand out to be the best to go with any of the Pulavs.

However, the ‘dish of the day‘ was none other than Ragi Sangati which came in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian variant. It was agreed by everyone that the meat variant was closer to Haleem. Ragi Sangati or Ragi Mudde is a complete meal in the southern states of India. It is a healthy combination of Ragi (finger millet) flour & water cooked into a dough like consistency. I wouldn’t boast of its taste when eaten as it is. It becomes delicious only when brilliant combinations of side dishes are made for it. In Andhra Pradesh & Telangana region, it is mostly served with Natu Kodi & Chapala Pulusu, while states like Karnataka it is traditionally eaten with hot saaru.

While there were many other vegetarian dishes like Nune Vankaya Kura, Bugudala Pulusu, Theeya Sorakaya Pulusu and non-vegetarian dishes like Yellamma Mamsam Kura, Chapala Pulusu, Fish Fry the only dish which stood out for me was Karjam Soya Kura (Mutton Liver Curry) which was more of a starter but will go well with Jonna Roti or Ragi Rottelu.

Everyone was by now at the brink of their capacity and yet we had the desserts to go. I quickly picked up a little of Chanaga Pappu Payasam & Korra Annam Payasam before I pass out. The extra sugar rush actually spoiled the after taste and I had to grab a starter to fix it. I would have prefered a little less sweeter just so that it doesn’t mar my great spicy experience.

Though the visit was based on the invitation extended by the business owners, the review is absolutely unbiased and based on real experience. It’s indeed a great restart for a brand which is serving for such a long time. I look forward to go back soon and satiate my spicy cravings often.

Chapparada Avarekayi Pallya - Broad Beans / Flat Beans Stir Fry Recipe
I was at a three-day conference at Hyderabad, around this time last year. It was one of those multi-track events that has become all too common these days. You know, the ones with workshops, key-note speeches, panel discussion, contests, all running parallel to each other. Frankly, I find the whole exercise futile. There are way too many things happening at the same time and no one can keep up with the schedule.
The only highlight of such events are the buffets. As soon as the trays are lined up, a queue starts forming raucously around the buffet counters. It is the strangest thing, to be honest. The best laid plans of the up-and-coming, the networking geniuses, the ace-investors and the seasoned entrepreneurs are abandoned without remorse over a lavish exhibition of food.
I don’t enjoy buffets for the sheer amount of food that gets wasted. The thing that tops it though, is the kind of meal-time company that’s just obsessed with ridiculous notions about health and fitness! The way they ramble on about fad diets and sugar levels or blood pressure range just as you’re about to take in a spoonful of food is sincerely disturbing to say the least. I mean... hello!! If you’re so scared to eat another bite, why monger fear among the unperturbed?! Let them eat in peace!
One of my companions was a fitness freak. Freak mostly (fitness, not so much)! He kept relating the ills of eating this and the perils of drinking that. His plate had no rice, no gravies, breads or such. It was covered with chicken or as he kept referring to it - ‘Protein’. I was quietly listening to him bore everyone out of their skulls, but the moment he uttered inaccuracies about vegetarian (MY) diet, I pounced on him like a hungry tigress.
I roared and roared and ripped his protein-coated ego to shreds. And then I finished my lunch, peacefully! :)
Friends, this is a massive myth that vegetarian food lacks enough protein. In fact, all varieties of legumes, dairy and even tamarind has a good amount of protein in it.
The real question is, how much protein do you need on a daily basis? What kind of work do you perform? What kind of a diet have you been raised on? What are the natural ways in which you can take in the required amount of foods that are right for you?
If you are a vegetarian, then look no further than your average bean. In fact, look to the flat bean. It is a promising annual crop with protein level that makes up for nearly 10% of the daily recommended serving. These beans have a long list of aliases, some of which are, field beans, fava beans, broad beans, bell beans, English beans and more. They are loaded with immunity-boosting, brain functioning and eyesight enhancing, cancer, ageing, bone and tooth loss preventing nutrients.
You don’t believe me? Here’s the link to a popular health website:
Credits: Health Benefits Times
I’m not trying to put any food group down here. I’m just trying to highlight that vegetarianism is not at all as unhealthy or weakening as it is made to be. The fight is not against any particular food group. It is against big corporations painting certain diets in poor light to market (or draw fervor and frenzy) toward their products / services. There’s a simple trick to telling apart good food from the bad. All that is packaged, has a longer shelf life, has doctors, models and celebrities as it’s brand ambassadors pushing it through campaigns and lobbies is...? BAD!!
On the other hand, everything homely, unpretentious, easily available, freshly grown, inexpensive and wholesome is.... GOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDD!!
That’s right! Bear that in mind before your every meal. May all your meals be healthy and satisfying.
“Anna daata sukhi bhava!”
So go ahead, repeat, relish and leave me your feedback. – The Happy Brahmin

New restaurants to check out this week in Kolkata, Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai
It's not the weekend yet, but you can't not begin making plans already. Where to go? What to do? You want to try something new but don't know where to look? We've got your back. Okay, we can't help with everything, but we've got food covered. There are plenty restaurants opening every other week in almost all big cities in the country. And you'd definitely miss out on a great time if you don't explore them. From bars to cafe, new cuisines to regional food, there's so much to eat and such little time! Check out what's new in Kolkata, Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai this weekend.
Kolkata
Tumblr media
Faccrica Della Pizza Where - Elgin When - 12:30 PM to 11 PM Average cost for two - ₹800 Lowdown - Because of its Nepolitan style pizzas and you can create you own. They give you choices of sauces like pomodoro, pesto and bechamel, a variety of cheeses to choose from like mozzarella, feta, parmesan, ricotta and fresh mozzarella, and a whole range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian toppings. If you don't want to make your own, they have quite a selection of great pizzas anyway with fresh ingredients like mushrooms, tomatoes and arugula, cheeses like fontina, provolone and dry mozzarella and meats like bacon, ham, roast chicken and shrimps.
Tumblr media
Kabuliwala Where - Sector 5, Salt Lake When - 12 noon to 12 midnight Average cost for two - ₹400 Lowdown - Because when you can have biryani delivered at your doorstep, why not? Kabuliwala is a delivery only place that has a menu focusing on just biryani. If you're going to have friends over, this is the best place you could order in from. They've got shahi gosht biryani that comes with 6 pieces, 3 eggs and 3 potatoes. Now that's what you call a meal. If you want to take things vegetarian, there's the rozana veg biryani as well. Finish this off with some delicious and light firni.
Tumblr media
Social Kitchen Where - Rajarhat New Town When - 6:30 AM to 11:30 PM Average cost for two - ₹2100 Lowdown - Because sometimes you need to treat yourself to some good food. If you're a buffet lover, then you can get your money's worth at Social Kitchen. They serve north Indian, Asian and European food. At ₹899 for a lunch buffet and ₹999 for the dinner one, you'll be getting a spread of delicious food from varied cuisines. We all love a good buffet at a good price and it's to find new places to try new buffets!
Pune
Tumblr media
Rhubarb Where - Aundh When - 6 PM to 11 PM and closed on Mondays Average cost for two - ₹1000 Lowdown - Because the treatment given to each ingredient and produce will leave you wanting more. Unmatched flavours and combinations of them bring to you food like no other. Quintessentially European and Asian but with several delicious twists you wouldn't bother with details. Their dishes include something simple like baked cheese, 12 hour pork ribs, sticky rice with farm pak choi, roasted punpkin, mushrooms and chilli, lamb with root vegetables and black olive jam.
Tumblr media
