7 finest sci-fi film actors ever
Science fiction, as a style, can demand quite a bit from the actors concerned. They’re tasked with reciting the type of scientific mumbo jumbo that every one sci-fi scripts comprise and are pressured to search out methods to make it compelling. Nice sci-fi actors know find out how to leverage their on-screen personas to create compelling characters, even when these characters stay in a world…

love how Solar Opposites started out as a sitcom about two aliens who can't stand each other, stuck with their teenage clones (whom they also can't stand) & a toddler antichrist (whom they view as a sort of self-sufficient free-roaming hamster?) on a stupid planet they can't stand
and 4 seasons later it's a sitcom about a family of genderqueer aliens, headed by a gay couple in a happy & horny open marriage (with a graphic off-screen sex life, despite their canonical lack of genitalia?) teaching themselves to be okay parents to their 3 kids (whose Sci-Fi Antics now slightly-less-frequently revolve around wreaking havoc on human bystanders, and slightly-more-frequently revolve around alien-clone-sibling-bonding*), to the point that the central plot point becomes "We need to provide our toddler antichrist with a stable home environment."
(also the grumpy alien husband is too busy ingratiating his family with their suburban neighbors to even remember whom or what he dislikes. what is this show)
#*there is still SIGNIFICANT wreaking-havoc-on-human-bystanders. there is still a major Body Count. it's just not the Thematic Focus ok#solar opposites#solar opposites spoilers#i guess?#i'm in the middle of season 4 if u put spoilers in the notes i will HUNT you#ANYway#and then there's the whole B Plot#which is just a casually emotionally-gripping angst-ridden character-driven action-apocalyptic dramatic tragedy#just this masterpiece of emotional turmoil and sci-fi horror that technically is a C Plot to canon#a C Plot at BEST#love this show. try to think about it as little as possible. migraine-inducing#love all these characters. want to snap their necks like a game of musical chairs

It's really depressing that the only real Jedi centric and Jedi positive show in existence is written for preschoolers, while many of the more "adult" shows are edgy and about morally ambiguous or straight-up evil characters. As if lessons about being kind and selfless are somehow not important or relevant to adults just as much if not more than they are to children.
It feels like characters who are unambiguously good are seen as only enjoyable by the very young and adult viewers will only actually appreciate characters who are cruel and selfish (and the requisite "tragic backstory" that always goes with it to help excuse their cruel and selfish choices).
It's just really sad and disappointing.
#star wars#listen i love andor#i really do#but i'm seeing a pattern of shows aimed at older audiences always always ALWAYS having moral ambiguity as a central theme#the good ones like andor always keep in mind that these people are doing awful things#they're not necessarily heroes even tho they're on the right side#the bad ones like ahsoka and acolyte find ways to send the message that being selfish is actually the right thing to do sometimes#i'm just so tired of the jedi getting relegated to the side because no one can see nuance in unambiguously good people#like at best they are just not there at all#at worst they are turned into the villains specifically for refusing to stop practicing their culture even in the face of persecution#give me my adult jedi show#GIVE ME THE REVA SPIN-OFF I DESERVE#STOP GIVING ME THIS JEDI CRITICAL BULLSHIT#IT'S ALL HORRIFICALLY BAD#I DON'T CARE HOW GOOD YOUR CGI IS THE STORY IS NO LONGER STAR WARS IF YOU HATE THE JEDI#GO MAKE YOUR OWN SCI FI IF YOU CAN'T RESPECT THE JEDI

Tom at People's Choice Awards! Looking gorgerous as aaalways. ✨
Loki won best Sci-Fi/ Fantasy series! In his acceptance speech of this award, Tom talked about how his 14 year long journey of playing Loki means the world to him. And how he couldn't have done it without the fans' curiosity, passion and love for his character. Don't mind me in the corner while I sob because I love this man and this series so much 💚💚💚

With Krok now on my mind, it's reminded me of like, the whole deal of him coping with the loss of his squad by believing they'd just become separated? Because that bit is such a fascinating aspect of his character to me.
It's vague in a way that doesn't totally confirm whether he truly 100% deluded himself, or if he just kept telling himself that to try and distract from the truth and memories he didn't want to face.
(Which, for some reason this pisses Misfire off? Which implies something really interesting there about Misfire and his own coping mechanisms and issues that we don't get much of a peer into unfortunately.)
Anyway, I spent way too long thinking about it when I was reading through the comics. And it's like, did studying battles and strategy play a part in this delusion/lie?
Like, you're a being that lives for millions of years, in the middle of a war spanning those millions of years. So, at some point, surely those battles are going to start to blur together. So you've got that, and then you go and face a frankly horrifically traumatic fight that quite literally rips the people you cared about most, and felt responsible for, apart.
Presumably, Decepticons aren't the greatest at handling shell shock and other such side effects of war. So they just take this freshly traumatized mess of a dude, take him off the front lines and plant him on a warworld to aid the fight from a more comfortable distance.
With all this, the mind is bound to be fickle when faced with such sudden loss and change. But Krok obviously did his job there, or at least he was very knowledgeable on history and tactics beforehand.
Either way, he studied battle after battle, went through records of fight after fight, planned for what's next and reconsidered what had already happened. Hundreds of wins and losses.
So did it get jumbled there? In having a head full of battles, did some of them blur and mix with the one that took everything away from him? In trying to solve the failures of past battles, did he try and find where a victory could've been had against the wreckers that day? Did he find a solution that would've had his squad still whole and alive?
From there, did it slip into delusion, or a desperate lie to keep himself going?
I feel like his "mental health matters" moment was an interesting insight into it and possibly the average soldier's rough outlook on trauma. But it was still very surface level I think, but I guess going too deep into the why's and how's wouldn't have been important until maybe the Scavenger centric comics that uh, never happened :/
#i'm probably reading too much into it. but im a sucker for war stories and such in fiction. esp sci fi.#i grew up military. so its like. i need to know the details within the media im reading. or else it feels poorly done or handled#and tf is frequently at its core a story of war. even in g1 it covered that fact. loss and coping and stuff#and idw1 is best in the post-war era. but it only sometimes dips into the real nitty gritty of what that all entails for ex-soldiers#the scavs are particularly interesting in that sense. since none of them were ''important''. they were tragically deemed disposable#and like. the bit where krok is explaining what happened during the war was just so good. just the disillusion and betrayal and hurt-#-towards megatron and the high command. like. argh. it was just *chefs kiss* when it comes to writing an interesting ex-soldier#fulcrums line about the war being over being comparable to the sky no longer being blue is also just. ough. esp since he wasn't a soldier#it just shows how ingrained the war was in every bot and cons life. and its so tragic and fascinating and augh#and like. the cons are awful. yeah. but they're also just an army chock full of random people with their own unique views and opinions#and the scavs are great vessels for telling that angle. that perspective. of just being someone swept up in it all#they're great comedy relief and all too. but theres so much fascinating story potential there too of hardships and disillusion#i mean. the whole deal with the djd?? the comparisons?? the hypocrisy bcs they're all bad people but for different reasons???#i could go on for hours about it. and i actually have and it's never coherent. but its like my fav thing about cons#which is probably a bit weird. i've been told having an interest in fictional wars and its effects is weird. but idk#its personal for me. you grow up hearing shit from vets and what they've been through. their own disillusions and it sticks with you#i'm gonna stop before i start to vent lol. but yeah. just krok and his ptsd and the greater untouched trauma within post-war cons

i just love that a show as big as doctor who came out with its whole chest and said FUCK YOU TERFS YOU ACTIVELY MAKE LIFE DANGEROUS FOR TRANS PEOPLE AND YOU HAVE NO PLACE HERE
like tysm, russell t davies <3
(also finally justice for donna)
#i know rtd had some issues in the past but the new dr who ep was so good it was some growth#i wasn't sure about david tennant's return b/c as much as i love him it feels like a step backwards but this was good#i do think jodie whittaker deserved better tho#doctor who#doctor who spoilers#doctor who special#episode 1 was so cute and i also loved the meep#which i think was a puppet? i hope because it was good and looked puppety in the best way (also love a chaotic evil villain)#trans#i think my only note as a non binary person is it bugs me slightly when people try to explain non binary in fantasy/sci fi#like the “whole you're non binary because of x” trope but ill let it slide this once#it's just so big for something that big to come out and tell off the dangerous fascist bigots for once#doctor who special spoilers#sex education did it a bit too in s4 but that show's not as big as doctor who but i still appreciated it

i love so much that rick and morty literally accomplishes being an episodic sometimes serialized sci fi show with episodes that hit so hard and then others that flop so bad and they do it with only 10 episodes per season
#i love star trek and x files and rick and morty is literally just those shows but different#and even tho i wish we still had 24 ep seasons in general im glad rnm stick to 10#i dont want the writers to get burnt out#but goddd peak media really is sci fi that is sometimes awful garbage and sometimes the best thing you’ve ever seen#rick and morty

saw my dad yesterday, and he told me he's started watching fringe because, and i quote "i know you were really into that show and it has that actress you love so much."
other things he told me:
"i'd seen her in mindhunter, i barely recognized her. she was MUCH YOUNGER wasn't she?"
"i didn't expect the show to be so...out there, not sure i like it. does it get better?"
#i told him to keep going#that the sci-fi actually gets even more far stretched but so do the feeeeels#the fact that no one in my family understands/shares my love for fringe will always sadden me#but they do all acknowledge my love for a certain australian unicorn#which is so funny because i promise you i do not talk about her often in real life#but the few times i do are memorable clearly#mom watching mindhunter a few years back: 'i watched that show. it had your wife in it'#also my dad and i don't have the best relationship right now so the fact that he went and tried watching fringe because he knows i love it#it's giving me feels

Pathfinders in Space (ABC, 1960)
"Now, the remainder of us have fifteen hours of oxygen left. That leaves fifteen hours in which to complete our research here."
"Well, what's the good of all that if you can't come back with it?"
"The moon never destroys her treasures, Henderson. We shall leave a record and it'll be preserved in the vacuum of the caves. And the future expeditions you mentioned, they will find it."
#pathfinders in space#1960#children's television#classic tv#abc#malcolm hulke#eric paice#guy verney#peter williams#gerald flood#harold goldblatt#richard dean#gillian ferguson#stewart guidotti#pamela barney#irene sutcliffe#hugh evans#astor sklair#michael guest#the first sequel to the seminal (and sadly entirely lost) serial Target Luna; for reasons best known to the production team‚ despite being#a direct sequel with the same characters‚ every major role was recast for Pathfinders (and so sadly we don't get to see a young Michael#Craze). often described as a precursor to DW‚ and honestly that's hard to deny: this might be the first uk kids sci fi serial to really#nail that family friendly vibe‚ with enough interest for both children and adult viewers alike. it's a rare gift that it exists complete#and finally getting to it i found it a genuinely compelling series. it can be a little cheesy and a little silly in places (adorably‚ our#astronauts take a full tea service to the moon and regularly stop for tea) but i actually ended up learning some stuff about the moon from#this 64 yr old series. Gerald Flood's everyman journalist is a nicely constructed audience avatar but it's missing cheese expert Peter#Williams who gives the orders (and regularly imperils his own children). a lot of fun! well worth seeking out for old tv fans#also needless to say the various miniatures and fx work is frankly adorable.#and shoutout to Prof Mary Meadows‚ it's nice to have a kickass lady scientist in a show this old (and who remains cooler and more capable#than her male counterparts on more than one occasion).

you know what, it was on me for expecting anything different from mr russell t 'all the information i ever need about anything happening in the world i get from the front page (and *only* the front page) of the guardian' davies but. the nuclear winter caused by *checks watch* No Piano really. really broke me.
#i know i know it's just a silly sci fi it doesn't have to make sense!!#but I think there's a difference between like#hand waving fun#and genuinely lazy writing#if you're going to be so self righteous and congratulatory about your work#you better actually DO THE WORK#that was just so....boring#dismally unintellectual#dr who at its best always manages to hit the right balance between fun for kids and actually being a bit clever#this was so flat and uninterested in saying anything beyond the obvious#AUGH anyway thats my untagged rant of the week sorry if you genuinely liked it by all means keep on doing that#i'm just mildly devastated at the idea that the show is somehow both engaging with wild and whacky EU stuff#while at the same time just regurgitating 2005s lamest plot beats#absolute nightmare of a situation#ncuti gatwa is the only saving grace of any of it and man's HOLDING THE WEIGHT OF THE WORLD AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED#but he's too busy being drowned out by twee violins and the sound of 75 million trumpets to have a chance in hell. absolutely devastating.

CORRECT THANK YOU FOR SHARING
#submission#I actually have seen this meme because someone sent it to my supervisor at some point and she showed it to all of us ajdbkajs#working with a bunch of gay autistic math nerds fucking rules lmfao y'all have no idea#one of my bosses is super into sci fi and is also a math teacher and puts star trek and firefly and buffy and hitchhikers guide etc etc#references in EVERYTHING he makes. I took a math class from him once and all of the test questions were about some fuckin show#whenever he runs meetings he asks us questions based on star trek usually. recently in a meeting he asked us to choose the best captain#I'm one of only like 3 people who watches all of this shit so I looove going to meetings when he runs them#bc he'll ask some fuckin question like who's the best star trek captain. and the 3 of us who knows what's going on will just start arguing#while everyone else looks around like what the fuck is going on right now (this one always gets the newbies)#my ALL TIME favorite Jake moment tho was when I was there one night and there were no students so we were all just hanging out#and Jake walks out of his office and he looks kind of annoyed. and he's a big dude like super tall and broad and loud as hell#so I can hear him like mumbling shit all annoyed and I'm like hey Jake what's up? you doin ok?#and he sighed and was like no. the schools internet filter started blocking my FAVORITE board game forum#and now when I have a thought I can't just look it up to see if anyone's said anything about it. and that's like ALL I do. it's so annoying#and I was like Jake maybe that's why they blocked it akddjkansbdjsdbebs#god I love that dude. and this barely mentions my other supervisor who is autistic and pansexual and married to a woman#and both of them foster several kids. Jake has like 10 fuckin kids or smth bc he was fostering a couple of kids and then he got married#and she already had children and then they had a baby together. idk he's got like a whole baseball team they're very cute
