god bless the bread maker machine mom and i found at a thrift store two years ago; it's been so frickin handy, and you bet something like that nets ya at least a hundred bucks brand new, and we got it for super cheep.
heck, bless thrift store appliances in general. bread machines, rice cookers, pasta rollers, apple corers, ect. Those little gadgets that cost up to hundreds of dollars, marked down for a fraction of the price, because someone doesn't need them anymore. I hope their new owners appreciate how lucky they are.
#espy talks#i looked up the brand i have#and they sell the latest version for 120. and it's out of stock#and i rounded down the price#the one i have is a pretty old model apparently#like seriously though. a rice cooker and a bread maker are i'd say the two best unitaskers i have#they may be bulky but the space they take up in my house is worth it#honorable mention to my stand mixer#guess i can call it mine now.#mom got that so many years ago#it's expensive as fuck#but if you get your hands on one that works good whether used or new#you got yourself one of the best convenience items for your kitchen#unless you don't like to bake. then it's kinda just a waste of space#so anyways i'm gonna go fishin with my brother today#i woke up super early too#not cause i wanna go. it's cause i got a real bad leg cramp#and also apparently we're out of bread#so i got my handy dandy gadget goin lol

If you have celiac or otherwise can't eat wheat, btw, and you like bread, I highly recommend investing in a breadmaker. Even the best store-bought gluten-free bread does not hold a candle to the stuff that comes out of our breadmaker, and it's cheaper per slice even when we buy bread mix in single-loaf bags.
This is our breadmaker. Evie got it on sale, but it is an investment. I'm not going to pretend it isn't a chunk of change up front. There are cheaper ones, but the reason I like this one and think it's worth the money:
It has two smaller paddles, where our older bread maker that my mom got us and got destroyed by getting construction dust in it had one big paddle in the middle. This leaves a big hole in the middle of the finished loaf, which makes the bread much less useful for, like, sandwiches.
Zojirushi is not as well-known a brand in the US, but it's a Brand Name in Japan for good reason. Evie's had our Zojirushi rice cooker for over a decade & we had to replace the inner bowl once bc someone used metal utensils in it and scratched the non-stick coating. We expect to use this machine for at least a decade.
You can program your own cycles, which we found really useful. Evie built a custom cycle that removed the punch-down sections (gluten-free bread tends not to rise as much) and that made our perfect loaf.
A lot of bread machines produce very tall, square loaves, which are awkward to slice, store, and make sandwiches with. This produces loaves that make good sandwiches and toast, and the French toast slices don't crowd the pan.
The top heating element on this gives a really amazingly browned top crust that we definitely didn't get on our old machine.
It's so pretty.
So how is it cheaper in the long run if the machine costs $300+? A little like this:
We use Pamela's Bread Mix bc it's really consistent and easy - you need the bread mix, water, yeast, 3 egg whites, and oil. (We use avocado oil and find it best and most consistent, but regular vegetable oil works!) We buy Pamela's in bulk, and without any subscription discounts or whatever, the $48 pack of 3 bags makes about 11.5 loaves. With the cost of yeast and eggs and stuff, it ends up costing about $4.50 a loaf. (If you buy your yeast in larger bags & store it in an airtight container, you can create less waste and it's also cheaper.)
By comparison, a loaf of Franz GF Bread costs $7-8, and Canyon Bakehouse usually runs about the same.
However, that's not an apples to apples comparison because the Franz loaf is an 18 oz. loaf, whereas our breadmaker makes a 2 lb. loaf. Assuming even the lower-end cost for getting a Franz loaf at the store, an equivalent amount of bread would cost $12.42, and it's not nearly as good.
(Yes, gluten-free bread is fucking expensive. That's part of why I'm writing this post in the first place.)
Anyway, assuming you eat 2 lbs. of bread a week in your house - a breadmaker loaf, basically, to make the math simple - you'll end up spending $7.92 less on bread every week. That means that even at the most expensive cost for the Zojirushi, if you buy it at its highest price (don't do that! wait for a sale!) it'll take 50 weeks - about a year - before the breadmaker pays for itself. If you manage to get it on a 25% off sale (which we did), it pays for itself in about 9 months.
Nine months, I must stress, in which you are eating much more delicious bread.
We tend to go through a couple of loaves a week because toast, sandwiches, and melts are great food for people with low spoons.
Evie and I perfected the Pamela's mix recipe for this particular machine - I'll get it typed up when I'm downstairs next, along with the quasi-babka recipe. (Really, it's like a marble cake and babka and bread had a baby, and it's a family favorite.)
Bread good. The end.

hiiii!!!!!!!! could I request best friend chan who confesses his feelings for reader on live not realizing they're watching? Hopefully this makes sense lol
|:: The chat's view on love
Author's note: Hii!!!! Thank you for much for this request!! I hope I wrote this to your expectations!! Thank you so much,I'm sorry if it's not to your expectations because it definitely did not make me happy!! But I hope it's good enough.
Synopsis: With Bang Chan's live, Stays swarm in, asking questions and such..and one slip of his tongue revealed a big detail on his life...poor boy's crush.
Warnings: Idol! Bang Chan|| fem! Reader|| nothing really, sorry if it's pretty short.
"No, Berry is actually doing good!! She's with Hannah in Australia, what are you talking about???" Chan asked the live with confused laughter, as he continued to talk with Stays on his chat. Almost a good few millions, actually.
As he answered questions, laughing softly it wasn't too big on his thoughts to really think everything through and see if Stays psycho-analyze everything he said or did. As he read out questions for himself, while playing random videos of his own entertainment.
"Chocolate or cookies and cream? I'm sorry...I gotta say cookies and cream, it's too bitter for me to eat chocolate in ice-cream." he said, shaking his head as he laughed. "How is your best-friend doing??" he read, and god was he delighted to talk about you!
He also took the time to check your texts from earlier this day, telling him to eat something, as he felt butterflies in his stomach and warmth in his chest, it was just adorable at how much you cared for him.
It felt delightful to get your texts, he didn't know why, it gave him some sort of joy...sure it meant he loved you, you're his best-friend after all, since his trainee years , but this just felt different...
Different from last month...He had no idea when it began, was it when you broke up with your stupid situationship type of boyfriend? Or was it when you personally came to see him after his group won and treated them all to dinner that night...
Maybe it was the fact that you cared for him so deeply, you got along well with Hannah and Berry and his entire family, the fact you always got a good morning and good night text for him in a weird way, how you're always ready to comfort him or others, how you're always the first to support him...It came naturally for him to fall in love with you, how couldn't he??
"They're actually doing pretty great. They recently got me a brand new rice cooker after my old one broke and I was crying to them about it...And god, was it so sweet!! It has bears drawn on it." Chan told the viewers, most commenting about "how cute!" they visualized it to be, how they'd like him to "show it!", and others as he laughed and nodded,
"I will, I will...when I can...But yeah, they've been good. I was texting them today about the new beats I was making and they told me very gently and sweetly, "go eat, la!!" and it's so cute! They're so adorable!!" he said, laughing, as he pressed his lips together to stop the biggest, giddy smile reaching his lips...
"I seriously adore them, they're such an important person in my life and I don't think I ever want to...I don't think I ever want them to leave me..or be apart and I don't want us to drift apart..I might not be making sense, but it's tr-true." he said,
"I ADORE them..." he said, before his eyes glanced up to catch the camera, and he quickly added, "Like a friend, of-course" His heart skipping a beat, as he thought of you again..perfect in his eyes, almost perfect.
He might have not noticed, but Stays definitely did. Speaking from the heart, his irises slightly growing large as he thought of you, an uncontrollable smile on his lips, the one smile where his tiny dimples start showing up as he smiles... That's love...not just admiration for a friend...
And you definitely knew it was love as you stared at the live with bright eyes, feeling flustered already, your stomach cramping in as if on a roller-coaster, you couldn't control your own smile after hearing his honey-dipped words...
The Stays watching knew the warmth those words spread, even in them...Like blankets on a particularly hard day when you simply want to cry, like the warm soup after feeling bad about yourself in the past few days, like the productivity you feel proud of after not living up to your standards, like that one friend's text after you feel left out...
It was warm and it spread to Chan's veins as he glanced at his phone, smiling down, seeing it was yours as he opened, his eyes widening as he scanned the words...
Trying to hide his urge to scream in happiness...But he heard a ping, and he quickly turned back up at camera, eyes widening a bit more that he was still Live..as he reached and looked at his phone, before hurriedly smiling towards the live and Stays,
"I-uh-I gotta go, Stays, a little-...Uh. A littl-emergency, I'm late-late to practice!!" he said, hurriedly shutting off the camera and picking up his phone, his bag and running out to see you as he struggled to put on some shoes, rushing down his apartment...tripping over his own feet slightly as he ran, smiling down at your text.
"I love you too. More than a friend though :)"

fail-safe (sneak peek)
pairing: yoongi x reader
wordcount: 8k
glimpse: growing up, your brother's best friend always berated you for not having a passion in life outside of loving him from afar. when yoongi leaves everything he's ever known for everything he's ever wanted, trying to move on from him becomes your biggest aspiration.
alternatively, yoongi left when you needed him the most, and comes back home at a time when you love him the least.
[ part one, intermission, part two, intermission 02, finale ]
[ a Lot of angst, eventual fluff, brother's best friend AND single dad au, So Much Yearning, unrequited love (initial), jealousy, self-deprecation, a lot of talk abt passion in an empty n hurtful way that most impassioned youngest children feel (it's a specific feeling idk!!!), eventual redemption in the next parts ]
sneak peek 01
You don’t mind getting hand-me-downs.
As a matter of fact, you love receiving them. The wear and tear of the things that came before you is only proof that it’s been loved enough to be passed on to you.
You adore your mother’s dainty vintage watch that she wore throughout college, the hardware and sentiment behind it being pretty enough that you don’t mind constantly getting the battery replaced. You like Namjoon’s shirts that he’s outgrown, even through the numerous phases he’s had wherein only denim and tie-dye filled his closet.
You don’t mind the history behind the numerous things you have in your home, unbothered that you’re probably the only house in the block with the oldest possible rice cooker. The chips in the staircase aren’t covered up with marker ink and neither are the loose stitches in the couch quilt snipped off. It’s home to your mother and Namjoon — if it’s good enough for them, then it’s already the best for you.
Even on top of everything, you don’t mind your family almost always getting you shirts and shoes that have an allowance in them. Your mom would go to Seoul and pick out the exact pair of sneakers you wanted that are atleast three sizes bigger than your actual feet, and you’d barely bat an eye.
You don’t mind the coziness of things that are brought to you, because even if they weren’t offered, you’d seek them yourself.
So when Yoongi mentioned that he’s decluttering his room and needed someone (read: you) to vacuum it up for him, you jump at the chance. You take a grocery bag with you, wear the nearest pair of slippers within your vicinity, and book it to his house as soon as he finished talking.
“Go crazy, kid. Almost everything in that pile is garbage so you can take anything.”
“I feel like I should be more offended than how I feel right now,” you hum, furrowing your eyebrows at the pile in front of you. It’s a mound of Yoongi, or atleast everything he’s ever wanted up until he decided to do a general cleaning of his bedroom.
Yoongi chuckles, going through his pile of clean laundry for him to fold on the side while you scavenge for his things. “It’s either I have you take them or I get ripped off at the thrift store, then I see somebody’s uncle wearing my shirt as an added insult.”
You huff, rummaging through his heap of belongings while conveniently trying to ignore that you may look like somebody’s uncle the moment you wear his clothes. Everything is him; every distressed cap, every unfinished embroidered shirt, and every item of old significance with his initials branded on it.
The thick gray hoodie you’ve been eyeing (along with its owner) for the better part of the last few years surfaces into your field of vision, your gasp audible enough to make him jolt because he thought you’d gotten hurt.
“No way, this too? But this is your favorite,” you half-complain and half-rejoice, turning the hoodie inside-out eagerly in the fear that there’s a catch to it belonging in the pile.
“Eh. I know it looked good on me but I don’t think it’s my favorite. Besides, I’ve bulked up! Wanna feel?” Yoongi grins, his segue eerily similar to your brother’s at every given chance. A neighbor from down the block recently opened a small-time gym, and the both of them have not been able to shut their mouths about it since. From their gossiping alone, Yoongi and Namjoon have generated enough advertising already.
“You and Namjoon really have to stop asking random people to feel your biceps.”
There’s random knick-knacks throughout the clump in the middle of his bed, some being too good and actually useful that you snag them. Yoongi lets you do what you want anyways (most of the time), not having to turn his head to berate you on what you’re only allowed to grab from his stuff.
You’re not greedy — you already have his hoodie and that should be enough on its own. But there’s that handkerchief with his initials embroidered on it, then that Rubik’s cube he swore his relative got for him from New York, and even the little butterfly knife he got from a souvenir shop when his family when to the beach.
There were those and there is this, looking up at you in all of its glory.
“Yoongi.”
“What now?” he sighs at your dramatic gasp, looking up from his folded laundry to see what you were going on about. It takes a second for him to fully realize why exactly were you so pumped.
“Are you serious? Your helmet?” you squeal, already hugging the shiny red mass close to you. “Does this mean you’re passing your motorcycle to me?!”
“Are you crazy? Fuck no,” Yoongi rolls his eyes, snatching his helmet back from you. He doesn’t miss the bratty frown that fills up your entire face; he’s not exactly the biggest fan whenever you were upset or angry; maybe even both. “Obviously I forgot I even put my helmet there when I made that pile.”
You whine, stomping your feet in exasperation. You would dramatically plop down on his bed if only it wasn’t full of his shit. “Come on! You told me you were teaching me as soon as you finish teaching Joon.”
“Teaching you how to ride my scooter is not the same as giving you it. Why would I just hand you what I bought with my hard-earned money?” Yoongi scrunches his nose, tone sharper than what he intended.
“But you still haven’t taught me,” you murmur to placate yourself and dissuade yourself from the delusion that Yoongi would even exert such an effort for you because of course — why would he do that for you?
You have an inkling that you’re being irrational for all the wrong reasons, perhaps even projecting your need to be looked after… by him.
Yoongi notices your mood that turned sour quickly, the silence between you becoming loaded. He didn’t mean to be that blunt. “I don’t think you’re even old enough to have your driving permit,” he adds in consolation, voice considerably softer.
You snicker lowly, still looking at your feet with your arms crossed. “But I’m old enough to backpack whenever you need me to carry shit that can’t fit in your carrier.”
He immediately groans at your comeback, his furrowed eyebrows mirroring yours. “You’re so stubborn.”
“You’re a hypocrite,” you retort, knowing for a fact he’s known how to drive even before he was eligible for permits and licenses and whatnot.
Yoongi takes one, two seconds to himself to regain his composure, clearing his head in the process. You’re still not looking at him and you’re pouting and you don’t even notice the latter, making him crack a small smile.
“I will teach you next week.”
“Oh my-…”
He cuts you off, raising his hand in emphasis. “Provided that you listen to everything I say and wear full gear at all times. You clearly don’t have a job yet-…”
“Ouch.”
“And I don’t have the extra money to buy full gear for myself, so what you’ll do is bundle up with your padded coat and the thickest jeans you have,” Yoongi enunciates every word, eyes keenly on you. They’re too wide and alert, you actually feel like listening to him.
“You go on rides wearing your pajamas.”
“Just say ‘thank you, Yoongi’.”
“You haven’t done anything yet,” you trail off, head tilting in confusion.
You’ve had a million conversations like this with Yoongi before but of different fonts; worn, familiar, and warm.
“Thank you, Yoongi,” he mouths, nodding at you to do the same. He won’t stop until you utter them back to him, and you know you won’t go home either without giving him your gratitude as you always do.
“Thank you, Yoongi,” you relent, the grin that breaks through your lips being infectious enough that he laughs lowly to himself.
He exhales all the worries he has and could possibly ever have seeing you ride the motorcycle (or for you yearning to do everything that he does), grasping at whatever sanity he has left from looking after you.

sneak peek 02
In the grand scheme of things, you realize that Yoongi was right — nothing valuable was left for him in your hometown anymore. He was as right as you were wrong every time he went on a monologue of how he thinks there’s no problem in him admitting that he’s full of envy. He had been right for being bitter that there’s people who have and get much more than him, more than what they deserve, by not even putting a fourth of the effort that he does.
In the same way that he was right, you were wrong for thinking each time that Yoongi would soon outgrow his ambitions and instead, see things for what they are. You were wrong for thinking Yoongi would stoop down to your page, much less ever think of it.
Yoongi was right for saying that his stomach’s made of steel, and you were wrong for trying to convince him otherwise. He’s always had the appetite for more, the digestion of whatever life throws at him coming easy. Yoongi can choke down the reality of leaving Namjoon, your brother, who’s been buddies with him even before they could talk. He could forgo the only brother figure he’s ever had in his life if it means making something of himself.
He doesn’t get constipated from the reality of no longer having the homemade meals your mother would make that the younger, more innocent, and less ambitious version of him would literally jumps fences for. In fact, Yoongi’s palate craved something more foreign and sophisticated; not familiar, hearty meals served in dinnerware dulled from years of routine.
His stomach doesn’t turn thinking about how the skyline he said he’d never get tired of, wouldn’t appear in his new side of the world. The little, unassuming, and far too comfortable version of him who used to chase sunrises with his bike as a child and chase sunsets with his car as a teenager, doesn’t feel like he’d be poisoned if he were to see the sunlight in a high-rise instead of a run-down pavement.
Yoongi’s right when he said he had a tolerance because he doesn’t even get heartburn when you cry for him to no longer leave. You’re not in the position to beg him to stay (and you probably never will be) because as you’ve come to realize, he would only stay for the big things.
The only thing that would anchor Min Yoongi into place and dissuade him from chasing more is by being the most. One would have to be extremely significant, even bigger than Namjoon’s brotherhood, your mother’s impact, and what your hometown has to offer. You can’t even hold a candle to the aforementioned.
In Yoongi’s grand plan that’s as big as the galaxy, you’re merely a speck of dust that had the luck of hovering around him. You realized it back then when you blew over and fought with him right before his flight; right when Yoongi was clutching his one-way ticket, right when one foot was already out of the door.
“But the future that you want is not easy, Yoongi!” you gritted through your teeth, the grip you had on his suitcase too visceral that it bends under the pressure. Yoongi snatches his luggage from you in a blink, nostrils flaring in annoyance.
“Of course you’d be the first to say that,” he seethed, eyes wild and unforgiving. He drills his finger into his temple, inching towards you with an anger he had never shown before. “You don’t work as hard as I do, Y/N! You always settle. You always go for mediocre. You never put your head into anything because you’re too immature for any of this shit!”
“I’m not immature, you asshole!”
“Yes you are, you dipshit!” Yoongi scoffed, throwing his head back. “You cave and you bend and you let the whole world fuck you over, then you come running to me whining. You don’t have a passion in life, Y/N! You’re begging me to stay in the same predicament that you’re in now, what’s not immature about that?”
“When you leave now and decide to come back one day, Yoongi,” you spat with resentment, the tears that pour down your cheeks no longer out of sadness but instead, out of promise. “Nothing will ever be the same.”
“Good,” Yoongi clipped, turning his back on you for the last time. “Good for me.”
In the grand scheme of things, you realize that when Yoongi left five years ago, he also took the large chunk of your soul that had been shaped over and over again the entire time that he stood by you. He’d gotten his hands on the security and contentment you used to take pride in, weaponizing it against you.
You’re unsure if you have to thank him for that, the uncertainty being on par with the insecurity you had felt when he left you with his truth.
When you visit your mother for her birthday and see Yoongi emerge from your childhood bedroom, hand-in-hand with a toddler that looks like an exact carbon copy of him, you’re unsure of what to do either.
You’re not hysterical in the same way you stood before him when you even considered ripping up his plane ticket, but on the other hand, Yoongi’s inconsolable in the way he flounders before you.
“Y/N,” he says breathless, the lump in his throat even bigger than the tiny fist that grips his hand. “I… I-I didn’t-…” Yoongi tries again, his mouth dry at your appearance. “You came home.”
“I’m only visiting,” you answer, the curt smile on your face that Yoongi recognizes to be the one you’d give to strangers making his blood run cold. “I don’t plan on staying.”

Doc, I’m moving out on my own for the first time, and I’m wondering what cookware is absolutely vital. I tried looking it up and got told about a wild variety of cookware that I’m not sure I need if I’m just cooking for me, but also I don’t know which can be left out in favor of more versatile cookware.
OKAY FANTASTIC I THRIVE ON THIS KIND OF THING.
So, let's say I'm going into an empty kitchen, and I can only have six pieces of cookware. These are ROUGHLY in order of how I would buy them, though I could be argued on a couple points. All brands are what I think are the best version of said object is--you are free to buy a different or cheaper one.
Dutch Oven
This is an absolute workhorse. You can braise in it, cook pasta in it, use it as a roaster for chicken, make soup in it, fry in it, bake bread in it, even bake a cake if you gotta though it wouldn't be my first choice. I prefer plain to enameled, enamel always chips eventually.
Lodge Logic 7 quart
2. Sheet Pan
Here's what we use for cookies, roast vegetables, fish, also can be used for chicken and other things.
Nordic Ware Half Sheet
3. Sauce Pan
So for making sauces, heating up a can of soup, melting chocolate, making jam, etc, you're going to want something smaller than the Dutch oven that heats up a little faster. Note this isn't the pan I own: The pan I own i got used and actually would never pay the new price for.
Tramontina Stainless
4. Skillet Pan
Okay, so now we're expanding. This is what I would use to saute, to make paella, you can even bake a giant cookie in it--I do this all the time.
Lodge Classic Skillet
5. Cake Pan
This would be my next pick! It's easier to bake cakes in a cake pan rather than a cast iron pan. I actually make my brownies in cake pans, i like them better thicker, and other people seem to agree! You can also make banana bread in one, no problem.
Fat Daddio's 8 inch round (I prefer an 8 inch to a 9 inch, but most people use 9 inch and most recipes are written for 9 inch, FYI)
6. Ninja Everyday
Okay, JOKES. The next think I would buy is actually not a pan but a whole cooking system thing. It has a rice cooker, braiser, slow cooker, pasta cooker, oatmeal setting. Is it the BEST at any of these things? No. But it does a good enough job at all of them that I think it's a great choice over buying a slow cooker or rice cooker.
Ninja Everyday Possible Cooker
Secret 7th pan: 9 x 13 pan. For cornbread, sheet cake, lasagna, bake ziti. You can make do without it, but I'd like to have it.
PYREX (french import that is still made of borosilicate glass yes yes it's very annoying that you need to go through importers to find this and so it is spendy)
I hope this helps!

Time for a batch of one of my old "I was a teenage vegetarian in the early '90s" cooler weather comfort foods! Which also helped keep me fed through my broke-ass 20s.
Plus, Mr. C is gone for the weekend, so it's time to samefood on some things he's not as enthusiastic about! (Though yeah he is fine with various spiced-up beans and rice--just probably not for several days straight. And we both might suffocate in our sleep, with his system extra-unused to that.)
Today, I'm rounding it out a bit and actually turning out palak rajma--through the simple expedient of throwing in some frozen spinach towards the end.
This batch is going to be both an Instant Pot and Crock Pot version, in a way. The current (Crock Pot branded!) one may be slightly busted and refusing to seal properly to pressure up, but everything else works fine. So yeah, I decided to set the (unsoaked this time) beans to stew on its slow cook function before I went to bed.
Being red kidney beans, I did bring it up to a rolling boil for 15 minutes first before setting it to slow cook on low--but, if any slow cooking appliance is well set up to boil the hell out of something without using a separate pot on the stove, this is it! In-pot searing/sauteing too.
This was actually my trial run using it as a slow cooker, believe it or not. We had a dedicated one in the UK, and I just hadn't yet here. They do have a reputation for not being nearly as good for it as the purpose-built models. Not least because it isn't designed with the wraparound heating.
But, I should be used to working with that! Somebody actually gave my mother one of these fuckers. I think it came from a work Secret Santa thing or something like that. It's been a long time.
How '80s! We even had that pattern.
Now, that type was really not very good. We mostly kept it for backup purposes. That is indeed a nonstick pot set on top of an underpowered hotplate. They pushed it as being great for an all-in-one experience, with searing directly in the pot. If so, you'd better do that on the stove and then move it over onto the simmering hotplate. Because that thing won't even bring water to a full boil. We tried when our stove broke temporarily.
But, it was better than nothing. Which was sort of my conclusion with the pressure cooker that won't. Only it will get extremely hot if you want it to! And the whole unit is much better heat insulated.
I figured it would be hard to fuck up plain cooked beans too badly, and I did wake up to some perfectly fine beans still on "keep warm". ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It did lose more liquid than expected, but I did know full well that steam was escaping where it shouldn't. Easy enough to adjust for. And at least I used enough water that the beans didn't dry completely out.
Next up, probably: some kind of stew, cooked entirely in there. (And, erm, hopefully another unit with fully functioning valves soon.)

A video is attached. Would you like to watch it?
[The video is taken from the same angle as before, and the narration begins almost immediately.
“Okay, so! Take two of the snomurice video. First step here is the rice cooker: I put in a cup of rice and then a cup and a half water. I’m using a Johtohan brand, so the ratios are a little different. Next up, I’m making mine with tofu. It’s extra firm and already pressed, so I’m going to take about an ounce of it and slice it up before tossing it in the pan with olive oil. If you don’t use ounces, then kindly get fucked because it takes too much damn space in my brain just to memorize one recipe and I’m not happy about doing this process twice.”
Her hands move, carefully slicing the tofu into wedges before scraping them into the pan and adding olive oil. It’s clear that this is taking a lot of concentration.
“You can do whatever conversions you need, that’s too much math for me. Or use meat if you like. Anyways, I also like to fry up some mushrooms, but those go separately. I just grab a handful of those, and I get them pre sliced. I know, I know, joy in the act of creation, but there is also joy in my hands not cramping the fuck up. I swear I’m normally less pissy than this and I really do want to make a cooking video to share, I’m just frustrated and pissed that the last one wasn’t recorded.”
There’s more swearing and a metallic clatter before she returns with a rice cooker and a wide bamboo paddle.
“Okay, so now it’s time to start mixing. Put the sautéed tofu and mushrooms into a bowl, then scoop the rice onto the top. Add in onion powder, the original recipe calls for an onion but that’s bullshit because the texture of those sucks and you can get the flavor in less obtrusive ways. Then, five tablespoons ketchup and one teaspoon Worscht— Worchesh— I’m not going to fucking try. You people can read the label.”
A bottle of worcestershire sauce is plunked in front of the camera.
“Okay. So now it’s time for the omelette. Everyone has their opinions on what sort of egg is best to use, but I’m just using one big one. You can use two normal sized ones if you prefer. You gotta pick out the little bits of protein on either side of the yolk to make it smoother, then you kinda whisk it up. Shiiiiit fuck I should have done this in a bowl or something, it wants to cook and I’m not done mixing— STOP COOKING YOU STUPID MOTHERFUCKER. Fuck. Anyways, lid on, cook down for a bit. Don’t let your guard down and lean on the stove, that’s how you get a horrendous burn that makes you dissociate for days. Which is kind of embarrassing. It scarred and I kinda prefer having badass scars. What the fuck is this, huh? It’s shaped like you could identify the stove just by looking at my skin. Anyways, now you scoop some of the mixed up filling into the middle and shape it like a football— not a Galarian one, you clods, I’m Unovan. Press the egg around it, and then flip it onto a plate. Poke at it until you get the spikes of the snom, and then add some more filling onto one end and shape it with the paddle so it makes the head, with little mushroom eyes. Last, drizzle more ketchup on it. Congratufuckinglations, snomurice. This took far too long and I’m still pissy about getting a stove scar. Good fucking night, I’m going to bed.
The video ends.]

which kitchen appliances have you been the most satisfied with?
[I rent, so I’m not interested in bigger appliances such as fridge/freezer/stovetop/oven. Will have a look at what’s best on the market when I buy a house, not now]
Strictly in terms of appliances, I’m very happy with the pasta machine I bought (Marcato Atlas 150) – it’s super easy to use. I can’t find fresh pasta in Norway so this is really great (if I was still in Italy, I don’t think I would have bought this). I also got many different attachments, the most important one (besides the one for tagliatelle) being the ravioli one (because again because I live in Norway and all ravioli options are horrible and cost a lot; considering I got the machine used, I can basically repay the cost by making 6 batches of ravioli).
Rice cooker and microwave are also super useful, but I got mine because of the ridiculous price (less than 5€) and not because I wanted a very specific model or brand. They work fine, I paid close to nothing, so overall I’m happy.
Cookware is where I have been so so glad about everything I’ve purchased. Specifically: this 20cm non-stick pan with a diamond-based coating that is non-toxic (such convenient size), the fig-coloured dutch oven from le Creuset (my go-to for broths & tomato sauce), THIS SKILLET FROM DEMEYERE (amazing for cooking and so easy to clean). I’m also super happy about the Le Creuset minicocottes I have, which I use sometimes in the oven (e.g. garlic confit) and very often for holding sauces when serving [though I do want to switch one colour for another].
Also not technically an appliance, but I got around a month ago a baking sheet with a rack on top from NordicWare & it’s 10/10. Rack has several uses (dry during, resting steaks, etc.) and it does help baking things more evenly. And again, stainless steel is so so easy to clean and super durable.
#the link to the fig dutch oven is not to the fig colour because it has been discontinued. but it is a BEAUTY.#kitchen equipment#replies

sharing some of grandma's recipes 🩷 she's OUR grandma now. she tends to give simple recipes for easy bases - add whatever you'd like to them!
recipes:
- chicken noodle soup
- chicken salsa soup
- sweet potato curry
- gumbo
- how to make rice
- homemade bread. peasant, flat, and fried
CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP
- buy roasted chicken. place in pot with water filled about halfway up chicken. leave to boil for 40min-hour [good for walking away and doing things. boiling it makes it super easy to get the bones out. you can also just pick the meat you want off if you're in a hurry)
- pick out bones / add boneless meat to pot with water or broth from store (as much broth as you want)
- 1tb bouillon, bay leaf [i double this for stronger flavor]
- any seasonings you want. my personal favs are creole or yellow curry. parsley is delicious as well and discourages bad breath >:]
- veggies: sliced carrots, celery, chopped onions
- bring to a boil for cooking then turn down heat, leave for 10 min
- noodles! any that you want. grandma's favorite are egg noodles. cook until noodles are desired texture
great granny made this for my gma served on top of mashed potatoes
makes multiple servings! good for easy leftovers
CHICKEN SALSA SOUP
- saute / fry chopped onion in butter. add 1 pint water and 1.5 cup salsa
- 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp chili powder, 1-2 tb bouillon, as much garlic as you want (i personally double this)
- when it starts boiling add 1-2 cups of corn (canned or frozen)
- add bite sized chicken. i always buy my chicken precooked bc i have anxiety about it LOL. cook for 5 minutes longer
serve with sour cream, chips, and cheese
SWEET POTATO CURRY
- fry 1 chopped onion and 1 chopped sweet potato together with butter
- add a little water (don't fully cover food) and cover to steam about 10 minutes
- buy bottle of red or green curry sauce. 3 tbs. or about half the bottle. curry paste or powder also works! use same amount and adjust as desired
- add 1 cup of water with 2 tsp bouillon
- i personally add some cooked shredded chicken and a bit of creole seasoning and parsley. not called for in recipe
- add coconut milk once potatos are fully cooked and soft
- low heat until desired temperature
served with rice and flat bread
COOPER FAMILY GUMBO
cook in a big pot
- 1 bag frozen okra. chopped or chop yourself. fry with small amount of oil until it stops being stringy. takes about 10 min depending on amount. add to pot after
- add chopped: onion, green pepper, celery (1 onion, 1 big pepper, 2 celery for base recipe. i do some spicy peppers as well. add more as desired)
- 1 24-32oz can of diced tomatoes
- 2tbs bouillion (i use veggie bouillion, meat kinds are good too) (grandma uses this for an easy roux replacement) (roux recipe: butter and flour in low to medium heated pan. mix until golden brown. add creole seasoning)
- about 1 qts of water (i personally love broth so i just fill until im satisfied) (i will also use 3 32oz containers of broth instead of water for flavor)
- season with parsley, 2 bay leaves, plenty of tonys creole seasoning (i also add curry powder, onion powder, garlic powder, and lemon black pepper) (creole is main soup seasoning for gumbo) (the brand is just Cooper Family preference)
- once veggies are soft add bite sized cooked chicken, sausage, shrimp (i don't usually include shrimp bc of texture. i use a cooked chicken from the store and just tear it up so it's stringy. creole or beef sausage is my favorite) (i recently found some dried shrimp at my store and added that, good replacement for texture issues)
serve over rice with bread. best breads are garlic french bread or flat bread. normal bread slices also work just fine
creole is a little spicy, so taste test for desired amount as you're adding
FOR RICE IF YOU DONT HAVE RICE COOKER:
- add 1 cup rice or more
- WASH! rinse rice in water, mix with hands, and drain multiple times until water is no longer milky colored (doesn't have to be 100% clear)
- fill water until it's a little above the rice. measure with finger, i usually do a little under the first knuckle
- cover pot and leave to cook on medium heat. if it starts to boil, immediately turn down heat to low.
- once all water is evaporated, add butter and salt! serve with whatever you'd like
for YELLOW rice add 1-2 tb butter and 1 tsp turmeric, throw in some fried onions if you're feeling fancy!
grandma liked adding 1-2 tb of ketchup and fried onions to plain cooked rice. said it gave it a great reddish color LMAO
HOMEMADE BREADS
PEASANT BREAD BASE RECIPE
- 2 cups of warm water
- for rosemary bread add crushed rosemary at this part
- add any seasonings you want or leave plain! either way is delicious
- 1 tbs yeast, 2 tbs sugar, 2 tbs salt
let rest until yeast is activated (looks sticky/foamy/expanded)
- add up to 4 cups of flour. mix each cup in as you pour, the dough will be sticky and can be mixed with a fork
- cover with cloth and leave it to rise. will double in size. i usually walked away to leave it for an hour, im not sure if it actually takes that long tho lmao
- preheat oven to 375
- get your baking bread bowl or pan and butter VERY well to prevent the dough from sticking. i tend to cover the dough and pan in butter. if you don't have an oven bread pan or whatever it's called (my gma called it a cereal bowl i DONT think that's correct hahahah), then a flat pan will work just fine! bowl is just for shape. gma divides bread into 2 loafs, i divide into rolls or flatten it for flatbread!
- cover again in rag and let dough rise a 2nd time before placing in oven
loaves take about 20 minutes, but just bake until bread is a golden brown :] grandma likes adding sesame seeds before putting bread in oven
recipe works for pretty much anything! pizza dough, loafs, rolls, flatbread
FLATBREAD
- follow peasant bread recipe up until the 1st rise of the dough
- butter or spray cookie sheet with oil, spread dough thin
- brush top with melted butter, sesame seeds, parsley, and parmesan cheese
- bake at 325 until golden brown
i personally add some sliced chery tomatoes, rosemary, cheese, and creole seasoning to top bread before placing in the oven. then more cheese directly after pulling it out.
FRY BREAD
- after 1st rise, divide and hand flatten dough into thin circles
- paint with melted butter and let rest for 5-10 minutes
- fill a pan about 1/3rd with oil, high or medium heat while dough is resting in butter
- cook in oil until crispy golden brown
delicious with curry or gumbo!

The deal was the child's compliance would assure his sister's safety, and they were precisely that — safe . . with no real intervention required on the strange teenager's part. Regardless, the Zen'ins wanted Fushiguro Megumi for the pearl of power contained in the otherwise plain and ordinary clam shell, and Tsumiki falling into malicious hands as a tool of leverage was possibility enough for heavy intervention, apparently. If they wanted him so badly, why hadn't they found him already?
Megumi believed the rather rash action was based on pity instead of concern, and if the gifts Gojō Satoru @thehonoredwon showered the children with were any indication of the wealth he harbored, he must have looked down at the apartment which resembled more like a shack that the children were abandoned in. Frankly, Megumi was completely fine living in a cardboard box, but he wanted the best for his sister; she did not deserve being abandoned; neither did Megumi, of course, but he did not consider his own suffering. Why would a stranger want to help us? Tsumiki's concerns were well-founded yet she, a normal human, seemed to hold insight into the soul of another person.
Satoru was deemed trust worthy after several chats. Megumi felt they had choices while his sister felt they did not. The money left in their care was already draining steadily, resulting in both children working chores around the apartment complex to pay for the little things . . such as food. Megumi liked their old place though — it was the closest thing he had to a home. It wasn't too horrid despite the water stains, random instances of the water heater not functioning, the pest infestation, thin walls, and overall unsafe neighborhood. Megumi had heard and see plenty of unsavory things.
Thugs stopped by in expensive cars and harassed both women and men and unexplained blood stains were often marring the front steps of the apartment complex. Sure, the child would have liked quiet but that was not a defining quality of Tokyo. He was familiar with the place, and their elderly next door neighbor who came to address herself was their grandma displayed a sweet and protective demeanor from the moment she spotted the children. Tsumiki had been the most distraught about leaving granny behind. Megumi always wondered what circumstances led to a seemingly sweet woman to live alone in such conditions, but she had been kind nonetheless; he would miss her.
All of the children's items fit into several boxes, most of which were school uniforms and supplies. Tools, appliances, and furniture were all extremely dated, falling apart, and had been left behind by their parents. Satoru assured the children they would get brand new things, yet there was a sadness in leaving behind the rice cooker despite two of the dials no longer working. Abandoned just like they had been. Tsumiki held her brother's hand tightly as if she was trying to reassure him it would be okay, and Megumi did not have the heart to pull away from her grasp.
She needed it more than he. Tsumiki's worries were erased and replaced with awe as she took note of how beautiful their new home was, even better than the homes of her friends. Meanwhile, the boy was stone faced as his stern green eyes looked to and fro. Shoes were toed off at the entrance before the duo padded around. Once awe captured her completely, she released her brother's hand to run around. Sock clad feet padded around with high enthusiasm while Megumi stuck to moving at a snail's pace with hands inside the pockets of yellow shorts.
❛ Beds! We get our own beds! Megumi-chan, look! ❜
No more sleeping on futons . . it would be his first time sleeping in a bed, as far as Megumi's memory could recollect. At his sister's insistence, Megumi moved down the hall to the right and looked inside the rooms with their door ajars, even the full bathroom was impressively nice. A hand of dread twisted his belly. Megumi felt it was too much. The smallest o frowns touched his lips as he turned his head to look at the beaming ivory haired sorcerer. He didn't look long as he was continuously being coaxed by his sister. Tsumiki appeared to have picked her own room by tossing her backpack onto her bed. The boy said nothing and continued to grip onto the straps of his own backpack.
❛ Pizza! I love pizza! ❜
Megumi thought it was alright. Tsumiki opened and closed the closet doors, peered beneath the bed, and even played with the curtains while her brother returned to the living room. What did Satoru expect of him to give them such a place? Their own bedrooms with their own beds? Despite being a little boy, he walked around like an elder harboring some serious grudge. He sat down on the very edge of the sofa cushion and looked out the window which gave an unobscured view of the sky. Little hands still gripped his backpack straps. HIs sister ,with a smile more blinding than the sun, returned to stand in front of Satoru and then bowed politely.
❛ Thank you, Gojō-san! ❜

Sephora 2024 Spring Sale
The spring Sephora sale is upon us! This one is always fun for me since my birthday tends to fall in this sale, so I get a sale and a birthday present for me. So, this is my own little wishlist I have for Sephora, and what I’d really like to get during this sale.
my little wishlist:
saie,
dew blush liquid blush in spicy, baby, chilly
sun melt natural cream bronzer in fair bronze
slip tint concealer in 1
glow sculpt cream highlighting blush in pink glow
slip tint tinted moisturizer in 1
glossybounce lip gloss oil in bounce, push, dip
merit,
flush balm cream blush in rouge, stockholm
the minimalist complexion stick in silk
bronze balm bronzer
signature lip satin lipstick in millennial, l’avenue, 1990
signature lip matte lipstick in vermillion, power, maison, classic
day glow dewy highlight in cava
shade slick tinted lip oil in sangria, pink beet, falcon, taupe, bel air
I have really been wanting to try out merit and saie beauty recently; I have absolutely loved their branding and philosophies so it’s only a matter of time before i get some of their products for myself. I am someone who doesn’t really like traveling with powder products since they are more likely to shatter; i’d rather have cream products, where even if they break, i can use them in a different container instead of having powder everywhere. All of these formulas are creams or liquids that are perfect for me to travel with. Plus, all of these products would be what I would reach for when I wanted a little pick me up, not so much full glam full cover makeup. I think the last time I did that was for my high school senior pictures. Because I was being professionally photographed.
I do have a larger beauty wishlist, but these are my want-wants, really, as opposed to what i would like to try and use daily.
makeup
yves saint laurent couture mini clutch eyeshadow palette in 100, 400

soft services speed soak gel body moisturizer
soft services buffing bar exfoliating body bar
soft services carea cream moisturizing + softening body lotion
merit great skin instant glow serum
oui the people hydrating body oil in orange blossom
summer fridays rich cushion cream moisturizer
Most of my skincare wants are just more rich moisturizers. I tend to have dry skin, unless it’s peak summer when it feels like I’m in a rice cooker, since that is super humid.
No matter how much I love beauty products, I do not wish to have the 2016 makeup collections, where there is so much that it is useless. If I ever get there in my career, I fully intend to give that surplus to someone who could use the bulk of it, like a makeup artist. I don’t know if I’ll ever get there, but I know I don’t want 80 foundations just rolling around in a drawer. That goes for skincare too; I do not want the skincare tiktoker collection that will expire in 6 months. I think, in a small thought, the best way to actually review that much product without wasting it would be to keep notes on the different products and how they worked, and how they compare to other products as a frame of reference, then use the product. I know for me that if I really need to use a skincare product before it goes bad, I’ll use it on my body. But that also would take more effort than a lot of people want to put into something, and I’m aware of that.
That is my little Sephora round up here for this spring and summer, and if you’d like, you can share with me what you’re looking at for this sale, or what you’re not looking at. Knowing me, I’ll end up just getting two products from this sale.

So, tragically, my slow cooker just...died? I don't know. I feel like a slow cooker should last a good 20 years or so, this one was like 14, I feel a little irritated about the whole thing. But! I did get a brand new slow cooker/multi cooker that does, like...all the things. It steams! It's sautes! It slow cooks and pressure cooks! You can make stock in an hour. Or a cheesecake. Cook rice. Make yogurt.
Seems a little unnecessary, but I'm going to make something in it tomorrow, maybe it'll be the best kitchen appliance ever.
In Fabric (2018)
Oh, that dress really is lovely on her.

I'm a little embarrassed of my rice cooker.
I could write a poem about it (and maybe i will).
It is unironically one of the best purchases I ever made but i bought it in a place where it's a normal brand, and i brought it back to the United States.
It scared my first roommate, and now i make a point to tell new ones that it is loud.
it's just a rice cooker.
They always say it's ok, but it is loud and they do remark on it.
God. I'm too old to be self conscious about a rice cooker.
(this is what they look like. mine's green!)

How to Choose the Perfect Big Pressure Cooker: A Decent Cookware Guide
A pressure cooker is a necessary kitchen appliance for speedy, nutritious cooking and for making meal preparation easier. However, not all pressure cookers are equal. It's crucial to get a large pressure cooker that is reliable, effective, and durable if you're looking to meet the needs of your family or cook in larger amounts. The benefit of owning a big pressure cooker and the reasons Decent Cookware is the preferred brand for high-quality cooking equipment will be covered in this article.
Why Choose a Big Pressure Cooker?
A big pressure cooker is an excellent investment for both large households and those who love to cook in bulk. Here are some key advantages:
Cooks Faster: Large pressure cookers allow you to cook big meals in a fraction of the time compared to traditional methods. This is especially helpful for tougher cuts of meat, beans, and lentils, which typically take longer to cook.
Retains Nutrients: Cooking food under pressure helps retain more nutrients, making your meals healthier. Vegetables cooked in a pressure cooker, for example, retain more vitamins and minerals than those cooked using boiling or steaming methods.
Energy-Efficient: Pressure cooking uses less energy than conventional cooking. Since meals are cooked faster, your stove or cooking device doesn’t have to stay on as long, helping you save on energy costs.
Ideal for Batch Cooking: Whether you're preparing meals for the week or cooking for a large gathering, a big pressure cooker makes batch cooking easier and more efficient.
What to Look for in a Big Pressure Cooker?
When choosing the right big pressure cooker, there are a few factors to consider:
Size: The size of your pressure cooker is critical, especially if you're cooking for a large family or for meal prep. A 6-8 quart pressure cooker is ideal for larger families, while those who frequently entertain guests may prefer a 10-quart or even larger model.
Material: Stainless steel pressure cookers are durable, non-reactive, and distribute heat evenly. Decent Cookware offers high-quality stainless steel options that are perfect for heavy-duty cooking.
Safety Features: Modern pressure cookers come with a range of safety features such as pressure release valves, locking lids, and safety handles to ensure safe operation. Always prioritize models with these features for peace of mind.
Versatility: A pressure cooker that can also function as a slow cooker, rice cooker, or even a steamer offers added versatility in the kitchen. Decent Cookware pressure cookers are designed with multifunctionality in mind, making them an all-in-one solution for busy households.
Why Decent Cookware is the Best Choice
At Decent Cookware, we pride ourselves on offering top-tier kitchen appliances that make cooking easy, enjoyable, and efficient. Our collection of big pressure cookers is designed to meet the needs of both home cooks and professional chefs. Here's why our brand stands out:
