You know what I think Mario would do? Save up his money to buy something nice for Peach. She’s the gift-giver of the two of them, and he wants to return the favor! So he puts aside money every chance he gets with the end goal of getting her a super sparkly, super quality, super expensive necklace, with an authentic golden chain and a pink sapphire stone. Between him and Luigi (who will happily give up as much money as it takes to get his clueless brother to stop pining and just make a move already), the money comes together in a month’s time.

But there’s one little detail our clueless hero has failed to take into account: he’s Super Mario, hero of the Mushroom Kingdom, and store owners within the kingdom and especially in the capitol refuse to charge him full price for anything (if they don’t just shower him in wares for free, which he appreciates but generally discourages). By the time the transaction is complete, Mario has his gift for his beloved princess and the vast majority of the money he raised for it remaining.

Mario comes from a lower-middle-class, blue-collar background. He’s generally frugal. In any other situation, he would count this as a blessing, take the necklace, and then split the remaining money between him and his brother. But the fuzzy feeling in his chest as he imagines Peach’s delighted reaction, the sunlight framing her golden hair and her giggles carrying effortlessly on the breeze, overrides his capacity for rational thought, and he instead decides to buy one of everything in the shiny display case in front of him.

Another thing that Mario doesn’t account for, or maybe just doesn’t realize: he could give Peach one of those gumball machine novelty rings that turns your finger green, and she’d still find it far more priceless than any of the innumerable precious jewels in her collection. So maybe it’s for the best that he ends up buying her an entire trove’s worth of jewelry, because she decides that very day that she’ll wear these jewels and nothing but these jewels until the day she dies.

Kai was nearly a ruby due to their canonical ability to control fire, but I figured Kai would rather be able to make fun of Jay for being short. So he's taller than Jay and his elemental power is now a flaming sword.

Gems have been the dominant, and nearly sole, spacefaring race for ages before encountering dragons. Dragons are powerful but few in number, and the diamonds have more than enough gems to throw at the problem. This has resulted in mass production of lower quality gems. Carnelians are mid-low military gem, a type of quartz. Due to mass production and lack of resources Kai is less physically strong than he should be. He tries his best to overcome this with overwhelming proficiency in his weapon, a sword. Kai knows he is considered to be expendable and hopes to make himself noticed. After overhearing from a sapphire the possibility of a gem making an alliance with the dragons and overthrowing the diamond authority Kai set out to find this traitor and made himself respected.

As mentioned earlier, Kai was initially going to be a ruby. However, I felt that their stature and hairstyle didn’t leave enough room for Kai in the design. So it was discarded.

Now that I had decided Kai was not a ruby I had to figure out what he was. Red chalcedony was a strong contender for two reasons: it made a connection to Nya (who was a blue chalcedony at this point) and let me use the orange/yellow ribbons to imitate the scar over his eye. I still really like this design but decided to go with something a little more simple. Going with carnelian at the end also let me limit Kai’s color pallet more which will help his component be more visible in fusions.

Would a Chansey be a good pet?

A chansey would, in fact, be an excellent pet! One of the best! This is a rare case in which, after calculating their score, the pokémon’s final number is higher than it was before considering the boons and penalties of their move set!

Perhaps the biggest downside to chanseys when it comes to pet ownership is their rarity. They are well known to be elusive and slick (Red/Blue, Gold), as well as small in number out in the wild (Silver), so they may be a hard pet to adopt, especially if you are looking at ethical means of adoption. However, if you did manage to adopt one, they would be one of the best pets you could have. They’re a bit on the larger size, but certainly nothing too unmanageable (though they would take up a lot of room on the couch!). Personality-wise, chanseys are kind-hearted, compassionate, and generous (Yellow, Diamond). They have a strong sense of other-people’s character as well: they don’t like to share their eggs with those they deem to have “evil in their hearts” (Pearl). So, as long as you don’t have evil in your heart (which I hope you don’t, beyond in an ironic sense), they will likely get along with you well.

Chanseys have a particular soft spot of the sick and injured (Diamond, Black/White), which is likely why they’re often seen helping out at medical facilities. They’re natural healers. The eggs that chanseys can almost always be seen carrying don’t serve a reproductive purpose; rather, chanseys offer them to those in need of healing as their nutritional value help with the natural healing process (Yellow). Chanceys lay multiple eggs a day (FireRed), and take special care to keep them from breaking or getting into the wrong hands (Gold, Pearl). If you have a close bond with your chansey, there’s a good chance (pun intended) that they would share their eggs with you. These eggs can be used to treat injuries or sickness, as I’ve already mentioned, but they also said to be delicious and are considered a high-class cooking ingredient (Ruby/Sapphire, Sword). In fact, these eggs may be used to treat issues with appetite, as they are said to be alluring even to those who aren’t feeling like eating (Ruby/Sapphire).

As far as their moves go, chanseys aren’t all that dangerous. Their small number of troubling moves like Double-Edge or Sing are vastly outweighed by their handful of healing abilities! Life Dew, Heal Pulse, and their signature move Soft-Boiled allow chanseys to heal both themselves and others. This would cut down not just on pet bills, but potentially your own doctor’s bills as well! People who are particularly prone to injury or illness could really benefit from having a chansey as a pet, or even as a service pokémon.

In totality, chanseys passes the pet test with flying colors. They are a pokémon that is well known to get along well with humans, and whose empathetic generosity could vastly improve the quality of life for many potential owners.

Appearance: Whiskey brown eyes, that are consistently filled with an abundance of warmth, offsets the medium brown tone of his skin. Fawn brown hair falls to his jawline in unruly waves. He has a muscular physique, reminiscent of a lumberjack, but he’s a big ball of fluff.

Outfit Aesthetic: He doesn’t have one singular outfit type that he wears— as he’ll try anything once. However, he does like wearing flannels over a tank top; being a bear-shifter he naturally runs a little warmer than the average supernatural.

Bear Form: Koda shifts into a Kodiak Bear— a hulking mass of pure muscle and strength (who enjoys getting scratched underneath the chin).

Scarlett Voltaire

Appearance: Dark auburn locks fall to her hips in a mixture of waves and soft curls, offsetting the fairness of her skin. Vibrant green eyes, that don’t seem real at times, are framed by dark lashes, complementing the elegant structure of her face. She has a gracefully lithe physique.

Outfit Aesthetic: Dresses of various types are something you can commonly see her wearing— usually with a pair of killer heels to match— in her signature colors of red, black, or midnight purple. Or a lace corset top paired with tailored pants (and heels).

A Notable Feature: Has a faint English accent.

Cyrus/Cyra Aurelia

Appearance: Lightly tanned skin brings out the vibrancy of their golden-red eyes; eyes that become more red, or gold, depending on their mood. Cyrus keeps his straight hair styled neatly, the platinum blonde strands kept short. Cyra, on the other hand, keeps hers to just past her shoulders. They have a delicately boned body, that hums with strength.

Outfit Aesthetic: As a member of House Aurelia, and the prospective ruler of the Eclipse Throne, they’re never seen in anything except their best. Tailored pants, perfectly ironed dress shirts, and knee high leather boots are things you can commonly see them wearing.

Phoenix Form: They don’t shift often— the spectacle of seeing a flaming bird hasn’t worn off for many people, even if they’ve seen it countless times before. With feathers that shift effortlessly from solid red, to a gentle orange, into blazing gold, they’re quite large for a typical Phoenix— gold talons sharper than any knife.

Quinn Grant

Appearance: Sapphire blue eyes stand out against their olive-toned complexion; filled with a cunning intelligence. M!Quinn keeps his dark brown hair short, only slightly showcasing the natural curls of it. F!Quinn keeps hers to just over her shoulders. They have an athletic physique.

Outfit Aesthetic: Dark Academia is the closest I could come to describe it.

Wolf Form: A massive, bi-pedal entity, their lupine form is a perfect mixture of strength and speed. With a coat of dark brown fur, intelligent sapphire eyes, and razor sharp claws, complementing sharp teeth, they’re quite intimidating.

Caden Randall

Appearance: Warm-beige skin has a deathly pallor that seems to hang around them; an aura that will never leave. Silver eyes, reminiscent of pale moonlight, bring out the inky blackness of their curly hair. M!Caden keeps his to just above his ears. F!Caden keeps hers to just below her jawline. They have a slender/lanky physique.

Outfit Aesthetic: They’re usually in uniform— an ironed black, button-down with slacks and sensible shoes. However, when they’re off-duty, they typically bundle up in various layers; being a phantom leaves them with a permanent chill that they to try to fight back against.

A Notable Feature: Has a beauty mark near their upper lip on the left side.

Sloane Addams

Appearance: Their eyes are a mixture of the softest brown, the sharpest green, and a fiery gold. Golden-brown hair, that always seems to have a tousled quality to it, falls to just beneath their jawline, complementing the light brown tone of their skin. They have a lean body type.

Outfit Aesthetic: Graphic shirts, typically a band-tee of some sort, ripped jeans, and either Vans or Converse shoes— a worn leather jacket, that’s clearly been well taken care of, completes the look.

Wolf Form: Taking on the form of a large wolf— they’ve always hated that their lupine form is just another instance of them being different. Their fur, that’s more golden than brown in this form, complements the ever-changing colors of their gaze; built for speed and agility over brute strength.

A Notable Feature: Has a tattoo sleeve of lilies on their right arm.

Blake Herrera

Appearance: Violet eyes, inherited from their other parent, brings out the tanned complexion of their skin. Wavy, ash blonde hair complements the angular structure of their face. M!Blake has his hair to just over his ears, always casually messy. F!Blake has hers to just beneath her shoulder blades. They have a toned physique.

Outfit Aesthetic: M!Blake typically wears silk shirts with the top few buttons undone, with either dark skinny jeans or tailored slacks, and dress shoes. F!Blake typically wears off-shoulder silk dresses and heels.

Reginald/Regina Presley

Appearance: With blue-green eyes, that are reminiscent of a turbulent sea, allowing for their light brown hair to be perfectly complemented. Their warm-ivory complexion brings out the faint gold highlights within each strand. Reggie keeps his hair short. Gina keeps hers to her shoulders. They have a lean, leaning more towards slender, physique.

Outfit Aesthetic: Oversized sweatshirts and comfortable pants are their go to. Something that they wouldn’t mind staying in for long hours of studying or practice.

A Notable Feature: Has a faint scar through their lip. (Think Lana Parrilla.)

Tears of the Kingdom tips for surviving the new economy and whatnot, under the cut (in case of spoilers)

Adventuring Tip: STEALTH IS YOUR FRIEND

Once you get to Kakariko Village you can buy the Stealth Suit (Highly recommend doing the connected sidequest to bring the cost of the shop down). This makes it so you can walk up to fish, bugs, and creatures without them running away (if you sprint they'll still run) this is AMAZING for collecting these things as everything seems way more sparse in totk. No more chasing frogs for you my friend.

Food Tip: Critical Meals

Cooking between 11:30pm-12:00pm on the night of a blood moon gives you:

+3 hearts recovered to your dish

+1 level to whatever effect is present in your dish

+5:00 duration to the effect

Rupee Tip: Go Spelunking!

One of the biggest features in totk are the new caves systems that are literally everywhere. Oftentimes you'll find ore deposits and rare ore deposits and find Amber, Opal, Rubies, Sapphires and Topazes. Sell them for cash (I recommend saving sapphires, see below). If you see a wall of breakable rocks, usually it will drop rusty claymores and rocks for you to make more crude hammers. But a bomb flower or zonai time bomb work too (DON'T BLOW YOURSELF UP). Additionally, a cave will be marked with a ✔️ once you kill the bubblfrog inside.

Battle tip: Ice is OP.

Frozen enemies take double damage from your next hit, so try to always have a Magic Rod/Scepter with a sapphire fused to it, fusing a sapphire to a regular weapon works as well, but you're not aiming to hit the enemy with the source of the ice. Freeze > pause and switch to your strongest weapon> hit the enemy > switch back to your ice weapon > repeat to stunlock the enemy, works on everything that isn't a Lynel or Boss. Using Ice Fruit or Blue Chuchu jelly works too, but stuff is more rare in this game.

Relatively Easy Rupees:

You'll need:

-Bow & arrows (the stronger the bow the better)

-Sheild (for sheild surfing)

-Cold Resistance Armor (to survive)

-Speedy Elixir (optional, but it'll REALLY help)

-Access to Snowfield Stable (Hebra Region)

What you're gonna be doing is big game hunting in the snowy field north of the stable. All winter animals are capable of dropping Raw Gourmet Meat which is the best quality, including moose, the bears and the wolves. Sheild surf to get around quicker and then go for headshots with a bow and just hunt the animals for their meat. You'll want the speedy Elixir because you have to be pretty quick between the meat dropping and freezing. Once it's frozen it counts as a meal, but you literally get hundreds of rupees by selling 5 Raw Gourmet Meats cooked together.

Item Management: Brightbloom Mushrooms are the new Apples:

Going off of the previous tip of exploring the cave systems, you'll find Brightbloom Mushrooms almost more than anything else. Eventually you'll want to stop collecting them, but they're the perfect source of quick food fodder. Just cook a bunch together for quick hearts (and the glow effect which is nice in caves).

Advanced Combat Tip: Muddlebuds

If you've been to The Depths, one of the native plants are the Muddlebuds. These make it so enemies will attack each other when thrown (or attached to an arrow). I recommend wearing the stealth gear, sneaking up to a pack or finding a vantage point, and hitting the strongest enemy in the group with a muddlebud arrow. It'll start to attack it's allies, allowing you to sit back and enjoy the show. Note: enemies will still target you if they see you (hence the stealth/vantage point)

After reading this week's Bestiary Posting of the Hratgrog, I had a good idea of what I wanted to do for it.

Firstly, it has wings, and avoids hawks, so I think a bird is a fair assumption. Most of the description focused on the animal's colors - silver, gold, sapphire - and put me in mind of kingfishers, which just look like living jewels. The common kingfisher was my main reference, but I looked at a lot of different kingfishers for inspiration with patterns. For the most part though, I followed the description as best I could - sapphire wings (iridescent blue) sheathed in silver (I opted to make the outside of the feathers white to reflect this); a pale gold tail, main body the color of a wild sea, saffron colored eyes, and red feet. I think choosing a kingfisher as a base also fits with the description that it 'rests on flowing water' - while kingfishers don't technically rest "on" the water, I think I can interpret the description to mean it rests above the water on branches or roots. It's described as gathering 'better-quality grain', so I knew it was a grain eater and gave it a beak to reflect that. I imagine they're also relatively large birds - akin to a kookaburra, on account of their small clutch size.

It was late, christmas taking its sweet time to get here. James had called Y/n to tell her he would be home late tonight, and she agreed groggily as college classes began draining her.

He pushed the glass doors open, sighing as the warmth of the store welcomed him like a hug. An older woman stood behind the glass counter with a smile, the store being relatively empty.

“Hello, is there anything you need help with this evening?” The woman asked, and he smiled with a nod.

“Yes. I’m looking for a ring, it’s for my girlfriend.” He says, rubbing his hands together to create more heat as he takes steps towards the counter. The woman smiles, extending her hand to shake his.

“I can surely help with that. My name is Annie, you can follow me over here.” She said with a smile. James shook her hand before following her to the other side of the store. She led him to the ring section, stopping at silver first.

“Is she more of a gold or silver type of girl? Or does it not matter to you?” She asked, and James just nodded.

“Gold, she really likes gold. She has a few silver pieces but they were all gifts.” He says, mentally patting himself on the back for taking the time to memorize her jewelry box.

“Okay, then we can start over here. ” She says, gesturing to her left side, his right. “Is there a budget you’re sticking to today?” She asks, and he just shakes his head.

“No, no budget today.” He says with a smile. She grins back before letting him look at the rings. His eyes linger over the rings for a bit, before his eyes fall onto one.

“May I see that one?” He asks, pointing to a smaller ring. The larger ones toward the top row. She nods and unlocks the back, reaching underneath the glass to take out the small cushion holding the line of gold rings.

“These are all vintage collectibles. They’re a bit pricier than the rest, but they’re original and very high quality.” Annie says as he reaches for a ring toward the middle. It’s small in his hands, and he feels his heart swell with emotions at the thought of Y/n wearing a ring, a ring to celebrate their love.

“That ring right there features a 1ct light yellow orange sapphire. The band is 14k Rose Gold, with 12 white diamonds and 2 matching honey sapphires on the sides. The gem stone in the middle, is a beautifully yellow color, and if titled the right way,” Annie says, delicately taking the ring from his fingers before putting it under a brighter light.

“You can see a bit of gold shine through.” She said, the color of the gemstone outshining the rest. Something about the ring felt right. To him it felt right. “It’s also the last of this ring we have in store. After this we are sold out of it at this location.” She says, handing it back to him. He takes the ring carefully, observing it closely, picturing Y/n wearing the ring.

“I always thought ring shopping would be difficult. I guess I was wrong.” He said with a smile, before Annie grinned wide.

“Oh she’s going to love it.” Annie said and James just nodded hoping she did.

The house was quiet when James had finally gotten home. The lights were dim, the kitchen light being the only one left one. From the living room however, was a slight hue of blue. James carefully set the bag down, now holding the ring that was soon to adorn Y/n’s finger.

The bedroom door was open thankfully, and James brought her to bed with ease, settling her down under the covers carefully not wanting to disturb her.

“James?” She asked groggily, eyes barely opening. He just smiled and kissed her forehead again.

“Yes love it’s me. Get some rest.” He spoke softly. She hummed and snuggled into her pillow.

“Waited for you.” She said tiredly, attempting to fight off the sleep trying to pull her in. James chuckled and smiled down at her, his heart squeezing with emotions.

“You didn’t need too, but thank you.” He says amusingly.

“Love you” Y/n says with a sigh, soft snores following soon after. James shakes his head with a grin before pushing a strand of hair behind her ear.

We're gonna answer these out of order but: 30: With fire and metal, blacksmithing, jewelry making, etc. We love the way metal moves and doesn't move depending on so many factors. The feel of it under Our tools is close to divine. Different metals have different qualities! Steel is so springy and hard, yellow gold is soft and smooth. Rose gold is "sticky". Platinum is hard and springy but in a much different way from steel. And white gold can suck my DICK. 12: We don't tend to monologue tbh. We can talk about things for awhile but lean towards listening these days. I guess We could monologue about jewelry, metal and stone though. We do love those things and can go OFF on them. The different qualities and types of materials. Did you know the best way to test if a pearl is real is to rub it on your teeth? If it feels awful and scratchy, its a pearl! If its smooth its not a pearl!! Sapphires and rubies are the same rock! Just different colors! if its Red, its a ruby, if its any other color thats a sapphire. (not just blue!) Similar for Beryl. The green kind of Beryl we call emerald, but aquamarine and other stones are also the same rock!

Looks: Tallest one of the trix, but only coz of how she ties her long pin straight silvery-blue hair, in a high ponytail by a dark teal tube-like hairband with two long curled hairs flowing past her ears and stops at her chest in the front

Icy is pale-skinned with icy blue eyes and long. She is almost always seen wearing dark blue eye shadow, pale purple lipstick that makes her lips look frostbitten and long blue fingernails.

She used to have curly blond hair before switching to her current hairstyle.

Relationships: She loves her sister Saphire a lot, and she also loves the trix. there was a point where she was infatuated with tritannus but after he lost his power she forgot about him. her bonded Magic animal is Frosbite.

Personality: Smartest, most ambitious, crown princess of Dyamond. Icy is a cold type of person, and often acts cruel for the sake of being cruel to the point of being the cruellest, most vindictive one out of the Trix. She tends to act rude and ridicules people she does not approve of and her temper tends to get the better of her when things do not go her way. As she was already very cruel, Icy always fought her way to be the best and most powerful; a desire that only intensified with every season she and her sisters have continuously appeared to destroy the Winx. Her overwhelming cruelty has also earned her the favor of villains. She considers herself more powerful and intelligent than her sisters are.

Icy had always been able to steal the spotlight as the more evil side involved, regardless of whomever plan she may be following. Icy likens herself the groups leader while often obtaining the role of second-in-command whenever they work under a more powerful evil force like with Darkar and Valtor. However, Icy also does not become wholly submissive and, Darcy and Stormy are forgotten or left in the background. Despite all the special treatment she gets from others while upholding a sense of authority herself, Icy has shown that she does need her sisters whenever a plan is hatched.

Despite her cruelty, Icy is capable of love. It is clear that she loves Darcy and Stormy. She also loves her younger sister Sapphire.

Other positive qualities of Icy are her intelligence, her tenacity, her charisma and her bravery. She is a very charismatic and effective leader. She is also very clever. She understood the power of the Dragon Flame long before Bloom and she always came up with intelligent plans to get what she wanted. She never gave up despite having been defeated multiple times. She is also unafraid to go up against more powerful enemies. 

However, despite her intelligence and her bravery, Icy was a bit naive in the sense that she could be double crossed by deceptive villains. However, she learned her lesson finally and freed herself from Valtor's mark and she decided to fight with him with Darcy and Stormy, but she betrayed him.

History: Her mother was approached by one of the witches, Liliss, to have a child to carry on the ancestral withces' legacy, as she had a bad feeling about the upcoming fight with the company of light. Icy’s mother was a devout follower. But after having icy with her husband the king of Dyamod she had a change of heart. Liliss found out and so she sent her next most devoted follower to ruin their planet, the Blood Witch. Leadin to icy’s backstory. furthermore, the reason why Icy became so power-hungry is that she wanted to become more powerful than the Blood Witch herself, in order to undo her spell on Sapphire and save Dyamond. Icy's childhood trauma filled Icy's heart with anger and desire for revenge, to the point that Icy became herself cruel, ruthless and even capable of killing anyone standing in her way. Her original goal to save her kingdom later expanded into a desire to be the most powerful witch of all and rule the Magic Dimension, so she will never know loss again. 

Powers: She is known mostly to shoot icicles and send blizzards to freeze people to incapacitate or kill them. her powers are blue (other than her ice which also can be white)

i would say pokemon black / white because to me they feel like the pokemon gen 1 of "modern" pokemon to me. they feature an entirely original set of 156 pokemon without any of the ones from prior games available until the postgame so it's kind of like a fresh start for the series almost?? which i think would make it good for someone just picking the series up for the first time because in my opinion it kind of feels like a second attempt at a first instalment

i also think that they're really immersive games in general. the music is really well done (they have different tracks for each in-game season which is really cute) and since they're like.. the 3rd set of games made for the DS i feel like like were just able to make it look really good graphically.

i also feel like it just has a really strong story compared to some other pokemon games like character-wise. the "rival" characters are really really cute and i find them just so endearing. you also get to see N throughout the whole story and he's probably one of the most popular pokemon characters of all time LOL

i recommend black and white over black2 / white2 only because. as a first game the original black and white aren't sequels LMAO. even though black2 and white2 feature more pokemon and some quality of life improvements i feel like they would be better played as sequels...

otherwise i would probably recommend like... pokemon omega ruby / alpha sapphire? the gen 3 games are really solid and while i would normally recommend emerald as the definitive edition over the remakes there's a lot of features in gen 6 that i really love that i feel make up for the story differences (alongside it adding some plot stuff absent in the original games? but then again that stuff doesn't make a huge amount os sense without playing x and y so idk..) you can pet your pokemon and play minigames with them, there's way more pokemon available, a lot of mechanics are way more transparent, the day/night cycle is visible (in the original gen 3 games you could set the in-game clock but the overworld wouldn't change appearance) etc.

also pokemon ultra sun and ultra moon are apparently really good. i haven't played them but i heard that they have like an extended storyline and additional features compared to sun and moon which seem to be strong games on their own from what i've played?

and pokemon platinum.... gen 4 games have probably the best music in the series and the plot is kind of grand which makes it fun to play. it is the definitive version of the gen 4 games and is treated as wildly better in most circles than the original diamond and pearl which is why i wouldn't recommend the switch diamond and pearl remakes over them (i only talked about gb -> 3ds games anyways but yknow). pokemon platinum can be played independently of any other games in the series but the caveat for me is that it introduces a lot of cool pokemon as evolutions to previous ones that are just really difficult to get 😔 beautiful games still
