While you were sleeping au! You mentioned the subway and I think? The F line, a while ago. I’m curious which subway stops are the most important to the story. Also which NYC neighborhooods do you think matches the vibes of the various mdzs characters in this au/in general. Also if there’s anything you want to share I’d love to read it!
Hi honey thank you for asking! Yes we did decide on the F line, good memory haha
I've put a lot of thought into the route and setting of this story. I needed the setting to do a lot in terms of character (wealth, community, cultural background) and in terms of plot (need both my main characters to regularly take the same train a long distance), but luckily I think that neighborhoods and subways are equipped to do all of that!
I settled on both Wen Qing and Jiang Cheng regularly commuting in from Queens, but for different reasons. JC is coming from queens because his family has owned a large townhouse there for multiple generations, while Wen Qing, a more recent and more broke arrival to the city, lives out there because the rent is cheaper. Queens has its own massive chinatown, but it's more recent (comprised of a a newer wave of mandarin-speaking immigrants entering an older hokken-speaking population) compared to the historic Manhattan Chinatown (hundreds of years old, overwhelmingly cantonese-speaking). I have placed a lot of my action in the Manhattan chinatown, partly because it's historic and partly because it's most familiar to me. Both JC and WQ commute to the East Broadway stop on the F line, WQ to go to work at a nearby hospital and JC to go to his job (the Jiang family own a restaurant).
Here is an excerpt of a scene from the subway! thank you for being interested <3 <3 <3
The train shudders to a stop and they part to let people stand and push past them. He nods at the seat that’s appeared between them. “You should take it.”
“It’s fine.”
“Please. I know you’re about to be on your feet all day. Just take it, before some ass with no appreciation for essential workers steals it from you.”
“I can’t. I’m afraid if I sit I won’t get up again.” It’s the truth, but she didn’t mean to say it. There’s no reason to worry him about her. She’s stood on the train a thousand times, she can stand one more.
“I’ll get you up if you need it. Promise.” He nudges her forward gently. It’s just the drag of his knuckles against the small of her back, but she sways into the touch before she can stop herself. Hastily Wen Qing overcorrects the other way, and drops into the seat as quickly as she can.
At the next stop even more people crowd on, pushing him forward. He scowls and braces himself with one hand on the bar above them, back stiff and unyielding. She recognizes the stance from years of navigating the subway at rush hour—don’t take up more space than is your due, but don’t give an inch or the crowd will take a mile.
The train takes off with the familiar rocking of the crowd, as people lurch forward and back, renegotiating space and balancing against each other. It sends him stumbling right up against the seats, his leg knocking into hers for a moment before he catches himself.
“Sorry.”
“It’s okay.”
He looks at her carefully, like he’s searching for any sign she didn’t mean it. He steps closer, letting the people behind him expand into the extra space in the way that crowds are always so liquid. She shifts to let him even closer, his leg settling between hers, his knee braced against the hard plastic edge of the seat. Whenever either of them shift it sends the expensive wool of his suit dragging across the machine-starched stiffness of her fresh scrubs.
She’s in a strange sort of sleep daze, like maybe she hasn’t really woken up at all yet. Soon she’ll open her eyes to her cold bed, her dark room, her relentless alarms. But for now she’s warm. She’s still too tired and the train is too crowded, but sitting down she exists in a little bubble, with Jiang Cheng’s broad back curved over her and his arm above them.

I have reached a zen state when it comes to the coming administration because I know that the majority did not vote for that motherfucker and when things get really bad a bunch of people that did--the low information ones who voted for him on looking "like you can sit down and have a beer with him" or what have you--are going to turn on him.
And taking a moment to really think about it, the US is too enormous to be ran effectively as an authoritarian state. There are far too many people, it's far too large, and making an enormous chunk of these people go hungry is calling for disaster. People can only take so much and when you anger and frustrate potentially hundreds of millions of people you are asking for their wrath to visit vengeance upon you. It doesn't matter if you control the military at that point--particularly if a large chunk of the military does not want anything to do with you and would rather not listen to the ridiculous and cruel orders you give them.
Rely on loyalists all you want. You are building an incredibly delicate thing that is fit to crumble under the weight of a space that's far too broad to manage at the level it needs to be for things to remain as you want them to. This place will collapse in upon itself as your administration cannibalizes one another. Whenever it will be you will fail--and you will get what you deserve, a vacuum left in your wake.
#Either that or everyone is too self-absorbed and stupid to carry out these plans effectively#We can only hope that they struggle their asses off trying to get anything done for a number of potentially hilarious reasons#That would be for the best--rather than a volatile collapse#Still--if they succeed it likely won't be for very long. They do not have a true majority when it comes to support#And when the material effects of things are apparent people will not be able to turn a blind eye#That's typically how these things go. The cycle of revolutions might actually begin to move here#Unfortunately a potential “glorious revolution” is bound to be horrific provided it takes place#If you want my honest opinion this seems like the setup for a civil war which would also throw things into severe disaray#States might attempt to succeed--potentially with varying degrees of success...?#This would depend on whether or not it was deemed worth keeping#An autonomous state incapable of threatening you is easier to deal with if they're too oppositional in this case I believe#As again I believe the US is too large to effectively control as an authoritarian state#Seriously--think about it. If a single state won't fall in line and keeps subverting your orders it will become a nagging issue#And you will begin spending more money on attempting to control it than it's worth--particularly costal states#If you want to keep the dough rolling in a manner in line with your goals it's best to cut the thing off and concentrate your power#in a manner that makes a core population easier to control#Bigger isn't better in this case. America is not the size of Europe and Russia's population is relatively small and concentrated#There is China of course--but the situation there is different for a whole host of reasons#It'd take the US a hell of a lot of time to reach that sort of state and in the meantime people would raise hell. It's too cosmopolitan#it's too non-homogenous with areas that are extremely varied in population#And these sorts of things rely on high homogeny to drive things forward#Perhaps I'm being too hopeful. But I simply cannot imagine this sort of thing working for long at all#It's illogical to me. Making such an enormous amount of very different people angry is completely banana shoes#As my great grandma used to say: they're talking cartoons

My Journey to China: From Prejudice to Discovery
As someone who had long harbored preconceived notions about China, I approached my trip with a mix of skepticism and curiosity. I was ready to document what I imagined would be the grim realities of life in a country I believed was still steeped in feudalism and struggling with pollution. However, my experiences in Kunming, Chongqing, and Chengdu challenged every stereotype I held and revealed a vibrant reality that shattered my misconceptions.
Arriving in Kunming: Nature Meets Modernity
My first stop was Kunming, a city I had heard mixed reviews about, especially regarding its famed Dianchi Lake. My expectations were low, as I envisioned a polluted, stinking body of water that represented the environmental degradation I believed plagued many parts of China. Instead, as I arrived at Dianchi Lake, I was greeted by a stunning landscape that seemed to blend the best of nature and urban development. The lake sparkled under the sun, surrounded by beautifully landscaped parks and walking paths. Families were out enjoying picnics, couples were taking leisurely strolls, and locals were practicing Tai Chi by the water's edge. This was not the polluted wasteland I had anticipated. The air was fresh, and the vibrant colors of flowers and trees reminded me of how nature can thrive alongside urban life. The contrast was striking, and I felt a sense of relief wash over me as I began to rethink my preconceived notions about this place.

imagine reader being in rogue’s places in the scene which logan stabs her accidentally
The shock in your voice when you whimper his name has Logan’s eyes snapping open.
“Fuck,” he isn’t sure what to do with his hands. Should he leave his claws out, should he retract them?
He doesn’t know what to do and the moment you cough and blood sputters out of your mouth he feels his heart rate skyrocket.
You can’t die. Not because of him. He can’t kill you.
“It’s okay baby,” there’s blood pooling in the corner of your mouth and Logan wants to curse, he also wants to grab you and hold you close but shifting the claws inside of you scared him more.
His brain can’t comprehend what he’s done.
“It’s not fucking okay!” He swears, but then your hand reaches to his face and he feels it. “I stabbed you.”
“It’s okay Lo, just breathe.” And breathe he does. Every breath he takes helps calm him down as you murmur under your breath and a pink glow takes over the room.
Logan watches as your skin repairs itself, his claws retracting slowing. When you’re all healed up, you slump into him with a ragged breath.
The blood in your mouth doesn’t get reabsorbed in your body so when the wound is closed, Logan wipes it away with a shaking hand.
“I’m okay,” you murmur, eyes tired all of a sudden. “I’m okay.”
He nods, tears pricking his eyes as he presses his forehead to your collarbone. “I’m sorry bub, I’m so fucking sorry.”
Your hand touches his hair, “It was an accident. It’s all okay.”
Logan kisses any bit of skin he can reach, holding you like a piece of fine china as he lays you down on the bed.
“Maybe I should go back to my room tonight, yeah?” He says roughly, eyes not leaving the part of your torso where his claws had been.
“No, want you to stay.” You yawn, your body more tired now that you’d used your powers to close such a large wound. “Please, Logan?”
He sighs, resigned to giving you what you want for now at least. “Just till you fall asleep, bub.”
You nod, knowing this is the best he can do right now. “Okay,” you turn into him the moment he’s on the bed again, head on his chest as his arms circle your back. “Love you, Logan.”
He presses his lips to your hairline. “I love you too bub, get some sleep.”
