I did it! I made a Justice League Canada concept finally, although I only made one original character. Still, I'm impressed I thought of seven characters (even if it took me months):
Justice League Canada: Originally conceived around 1988 or 1989 when the Justice League Detroit gets a mission in Canada. The mission goes well, and the Justice League gets some contacts in Canada. A year or two after this, the Justice League loses a fight in disastrous fashion and their public reputation sinks even lower. Knowing that the United States has turned on them, the Justice League use their connections in canada to keep the team running. Only one requirement: the team will have some oversight by the canadian government. Nothing too severe. But there will be some oversight and guidelines.
They serve as a Justice League branch solely isolated to Canada and (occasionally) the US states on the Canadian border. In those cases, they closely work alongside the revived Justice Society of America.
Justice League of Canada Founding Members:
1. Martian Manhunter (J'onn J'onzz): When the Justice League Detroit moves from Detroit to Ottawa, only two members of the Detroit team come to Canada: Martian Manhunter and Gypsy. Martian Manhunter acts as the team's leader again, the same way he did back in Detroit. He moves his private detective practice as "John Jones" from Michigan up to Ottawa, giving him a convenient excuse to be in Canada.
He's with the team for their year or two. If this were an actual comic, he'd be on the team for the 20-25 issues. But after a year or two with the team, J'onn leaves to head back to the states. He's gotten an offer from Harley Quinn and Captain Cold to supervise their team of reformed (or semi-reformed) supervillians, and he couldn't say no to the offer. Especially since his brother was on that team.
2. Blue Beetle (Ted Kord): Ted Kord is known as the Canadian Bruce Wayne. Well, maybe not explicitly by that nickname, but that is the type of character he shall be. I wrote so much for his origin that it needed it's own seperate post/note. Which I did make.
3. No name for this character yet, but some Norse and/or Inuit demigoddess or nature spirit. I want something to match Wonder Woman, except with more of the beautiful mystique of the snow and aurora, as well as with more respect paid to the indigenous communities of Canada. I have a well formed image of this character because this is a character type already beaten to death (honestly), but I think we could find a way to make it unique.
4. I don't have a name or backstory for this character yet, but I have two details: they're an elemental who can control the waters, and they're from Vancouver Island. Besides that, I've got nothing. I don't know if they're indigenous or just caucasian, I don't know if they're male or female or neither, I just know they're an elemental from Vancouver Island.
5. The Angel of Dawn/Ange de L'aube (Samantha Guizzon): Samantha Guizzon is a highly skilled CSIS (Canadian Security Intelligence Service) Agent. She's one of their best agents, known for her skill with research, espionage and for her very detailed knowledge of non-lethal combat.
Oh, and she's also got metahuman abilities. She can generate and manipulate light. She got her nickname (Angel of Dawn) because she can use her light powers to form shining hard light wings upon which she can glide through the air. She can also emit blinding light from her body, not unlike a miniature solar flare.
Samantha was assigned to the team to represent Quebec and Canada's francophone community. Originally from Montreal, Samantha is proud to represent Quebec on the team.
6. Captain Marvel/Shazam (Billy Batson): I saw someone say Captain Marvel was from Minnesota. I don't know if that's true, but I'm rolling with it. Mostly because I've seen jokes online before that Minnesota is the US state most like Canada (or at least I swear I heard that somewhere), and now I need to roll with it.
Captain Marvel/Shazam aids the team, but he's not actually living in Canada (like the other team members). Nobody knows why Captain Marvel isn't in Canada, let alone a Canadian citizen. Nobody even knows why he asks strangely naive questions or never stays around too long after missions. Well, maybe Martian Manhunter knows. But the secret is safe with him.
7. Gypsy (Cindy Reynolds): I know that there's a good chance Gypsy was DC's ripoff of Scarlet Witch, so let's take it one step further. Let's embrace the mild plagiarism. Her and Red Tornado will have a brief romance (although theirs crashes and burns a lot faster than Vision and Scarlet Witch's relationship).
When the Justice League Detroit disbands, only three members agree to head up to join the Canadian branch. Martian Manhunter, Gypsy and Captain Marvel/Shazam. The rest of that team stayed back in the states or were otherwise too busy to agree to join the new team.
Additional Members:
8. Booster Gold (Michael Jon Carter): Michael Jon Carter is from Edmonton. But I get really bogged down in backstory. So much so that I had to give him his own seperate post/note. Because I wrote like 7 to 9 paragraphs, too many to share here (especially when I'm trying to write about a whole roster of team members here, not just one).
9. Red Tornado: Although not really Canadian (being an android created in the United States), the Red Tornado is asked to join the team as a personal favour by the Martian Manhunter. Moving to Ottawa and taking on a human identity as university professor "John Smith", the Red Tornado becomes the team's heart and soul.
10. The Geomancer: This is a placeholder name for now, but I have a backstory. Daughter of a PEI farmer, young Emily Harrison is a metahuman with the power to control earth (and more specifically, dirt and soil are her specialities). Emily took over running the farm when her father had to retire, and she now runs it with her dad's best friend, an old, burly acadian man named Jean.
Emily never intended to be a superhero. She was content to just till her fields using her powers, and never have to worry about anyone judging her for them. But then one day the Justice League Canada came to PEI. Because the villian the Justice League was chasing also kidnapped her father, Emily and Jean help the Justice League stop him. This brings her to the notice of the Justice League.
This later, when Martian Manhunter, Captain Marvel and the Angel of Dawn all take absences from the team, they ask Emily and Jean to join the team. Emily was pretty reluctant to join, until she managed to get a promise the league would send her someone to help with the farm when she's doing super hero work.
11. Jean Boudreau: Jean is an acadian man from New Brunswick. A while ago, he moved to PEI to get a job as a farm hand. There he met Emily's dad, and began working on his farm. When Emily inherited the farm, Jean has already been working there for 10 years. He knows Emily the same way he knew her dad, and he wants to help protect her from the judgement of the world
When the Justice League comes to PEI to stop the villian who kidnapped Emily's dad, Jean is outraged. That's his old friend they kidnapped, and Jean will go to the ends of the earth to save him. Similarly, Jean follows Emily onto the Justice League when she joins them to help protect her.
Jean has no superpowers. He's just a strong, older man with all the physical abilities that entails. He does take martial arts training while he's on the league, though. He's also one of (if not) the only member of the team with no secret identity. He's just Jean.
12. Captain Newfoundland: There used to be a superhero called Captain Newfoundland in some old comic strips. I know little about him, but he looks super cool. And I want to take him, add some cool new details, and bring him to a wider audience. I'd add elements of Captain Universe and of The Phantom Stranger.
The last relic of an old alien race which came to earth eons ago, Captain Newfoundland and his kin were the original settlers of Newfoundland. Except back then, it wasn't Newfoundland. Back then, it was called Atlantis. This ancient race of star beings settled on Atlantis. They made it a paradise on earth, lush and beautiful. But then Atlantis fell to a massive volcanic eruption, and all of Captain Newfoundland's people either died or fled back into space. But not him.
You see, Captain Newfoundland was an exile amongst his people. He was friendly to the humans and animals of earth. He took it upon himself to watch over them and care for them. Since his people felt this made him too tender-hearted for his own good, they exiled him to the farthest tip of Atlantis. Funnily enough, this tip was the only part of Atlantis that survived the explosions. It never fell to the seas, and became the place we now call Newfoundland.
Nowadays, Captain Newfoundland is the humble protector of "The Rock". There's just one catch: he needs a host body. Kind of like how the Spectre needs a host body to do his thing, Captain Newfoundland needs a human host body to serve as a conduit between him and humanity. His current host body is an old Newfie, Brian Wellford (name subject to change if I think of anything better).
Captain Newfoundland is not a permanent member of the Justice League Canada. Kind of like the Phantom Stranger, he comes and goes wherever he's needed. Also, he doesn't often leave his stronghold on the east coast.

Whether exploring the great outdoors, capturing moments with a camera, or simply enjoying the company of loved ones, Lia embodies the joy that accompanies one who is living their life to the absolute fullest.
WRITTEN BY: Brooke (she/her), cst.
BACKGROUND / BIO
The journey of Lia Haugen began within the walls of the Brightwood Orphanage, nestled amidst the bustling streets of Ottawa. Born to unknown parents, she spent their early years within the orphanage, her days defined by the firm but fair tutelage of caretakers and the company of their fellow orphans. Despite the absence of familial ties, Lia found solace in the camaraderie of her peers and the guidance of the caregivers, who were doing their best to provide for the growing needs of their charges. It was hardly a perfect existence, but, for the young orphan, it had been enough.
A few months before her eighth birthday, things took an unexpected turn when they were adopted by Silas Haugen, a solitary farmer from rural Vermont. For Lia, the transition from orphanage life to the countryside encompassed a whirlwind of emotions — excitement, apprehension, and the prospect of hope for a better future. A man of few words and boundless compassion, Silas welcomed her into his home with open arms, his face softening with a grin as he embraced his new child for the first time. With a heart of gratitude and quiet determination, Silas made the decision to move her from the bustling streets of Ottawa to the serene beauty of his home state, where he planned to provide his child with a life of stability, security, and love.
Under the guidance of her father, Lia flourished amidst the fields and rustic charm of the family maple farm. With each passing day, they both embraced the rhythms of rural life: the crisp morning air, the earthy scent of freshly turned soil, and the soft symphony of nature’s song echoing through the countryside. They tended to the land and its animals with care and devotion, their days filled with the timeless rituals of planting, harvesting, and nurturing life in all its forms. Yet, amidst the tranquility of their existence, a shadow loomed on the horizon — the passing of Silas’ father, a stoic patriarch whose memory lingered like a whisper in the wind. For Lia, the loss was keenly felt, a profound lesson on the fragility of life and the inevitability of change.
In the wake of his father’s passing, Silas found solace in the land that had been his family’s legacy for generations. With Lia at his side, they sought to honor the Haugen family patriarch by preserving its legacy and nurturing new growth. Meanwhile, as Lia grew older, they embraced the opportunities afforded to her in her new home, completing their secondary education at Woodstock Union High School and eventually pursuing an undergraduate education at Boston University. They hadn’t really been particularly inclined towards the idea at first; the prospect of attending college was a wholly unappealing prospect, as far as she was concerned. But Silas had been particularly insistent on the matter, and she eventually decided upon the bright lights of Beantown.
Lia’s first two years of college passed in a blur. It had been a time of growth and exploration for the young woman, both academically and socially. They thrived in the vibrant atmosphere of campus life, distinguishing themselves as a diligent and dedicated student, immersing in their studies with passion and enthusiasm. Socially, she found herself surrounded by a diverse and dynamic community of peers. Their warm and compassionate nature endeared her to those around her, and she quickly became a cherished member of the college community and their growing social circles. With each passing semester, they grew more confident in her abilities and fostered an eagerness for what would come in the months and years ahead.
Upon returning home at the end of her sophomore year, however, Lia was met with a unexpected surprise — Silas had found love in the arms of Gavriil Kushnir, a man whose smile was as infectious as his positive and optimistic disposition. Initially, they felt conflicted about the partnership, grappling with feelings of uncertainty and fear, wondering if their newfound love would change the dynamics of the family, and how they fit within it. But it wasn’t long before Lia understood the depth of their love and the happiness they found in one another. And in Gavriil, Lia had found both another loving father, and a kindred spirit whose presence brought endless light and laughter into the family home.
It wasn’t long afterwards that Silas and Gavriil decided to solidify their partnership by getting married, celebrating their union with an intimate ceremony on the Haugen farm. Lia proudly stood by their side, a proud witness to a commitment of their love for one another, and, by extension, herself. It was this experience that incited a desire to explore new horizons and experience the world beyond the confines of the familiar. With the blessings and encouragement of their family, she set off on a journey of self-discovery.
After visiting a few locations, Lia was immediately captivated by the charm and tranquility of a small coastal village in Cornwall, and decided to settle there temporarily. It wasn’t long until she also found herself drawn to a vibrant group of individuals, ones who shared her love for exploration and adventure. Through a series of chance encounters and shared experiences, Lia and her newfound companions decided to take the leap and move into a quaint house nestled amidst the winding streets of the village. Together, they transformed the space into a cozy sanctuary, one where they navigated the joys and challenges of communal living with humor and adventure. Through their shared adventures and quiet moments of connection, Lia found a sense of belonging and kinship, each of them growing increasingly grateful for the bonds they forged in the heart of the village by the sea.
As her travel visa neared its expiration date the following year, Lia was faced with a difficult decision. While she had grown to love her new home in Cornwall, a part of her knew they needed to return home. With a sense of bittersweet nostalgia, they bid farewell to the village and its people that had become her sanctuary. As much as their departure had been a sorrowful experience, they returned to America with a newfound sense of purpose and determination. With a heart full of memories and an enriched sprit, after a quick stay with Silas and Gavriil, she made her way back to Boston University to resume her studies, approaching their final year of education with renewed focus and passion.
With degree in hand the following spring, the world was truly at their fingertips, Lia knew that it was time to embark on the next chapter of her life. This venture brought her to the quiet and quaint existence found in Merrock, Maine. Nestled between rocky cliffs and rolling waves, the small town captured Lia’s heart from the moment she arrived. It just felt like home, the perfect place to begin anew. As they continue to embark on this new chapter and the adventures that will follow, they know this next journey will be like all the others: full of growth, excitement, and endless possibility.

Set a moving date: Pick a date that works best for you.
Research moving companies: Look for reliable movers in Ottawa.
Budget for your move: Consider all costs, including supplies and services.
Gather important documents: Keep your paperwork organized.
Early planning reduces stress. It helps you stay on track. You can focus on what matters most.
Creating A Comprehensive Moving Checklist

Decide what to keep, sell, or donate.
Order packing supplies like boxes and tape.
Notify utility companies about your move.
Change your address with the post office.

Packing Strategies
Packing for a long-distance move can feel overwhelming. With the right strategies, it becomes easier. Here, we share effective packing tips. These will help you pack like a pro for your move in Ottawa.
Efficient Packing Tips For Long-distance Moves
Efficient packing saves time and space. Follow these tips:
Start Early: Begin packing at least a month before your move.
Sort and Declutter: Go through your items. Donate or sell what you don't need.
Use Quality Supplies: Invest in sturdy boxes and packing tape.

Navigating Ottawa Logistics
Moving long distances in Ottawa can be tricky. Knowing the local rules and timing can help. Pronto Movers understands these challenges. We simplify the moving process for you.
Understanding Local Regulations And Bylaws
Ottawa has specific rules for moving. These rules affect parking, street use, and permits. Here are key points to consider:
Parking Regulations: Check if you need a parking permit.
Street Use: Some streets may have restrictions for large trucks.
Noise Bylaws: Be aware of quiet hours to avoid complaints.
Research local bylaws before your move. This will help you avoid fines. Contact the City of Ottawa for detailed information. Understanding these regulations makes your move smoother.
Choosing The Right Time For Your Move
Timing is crucial for a successful move. Consider these factors:
Season: Summer is the busiest time. Book early to secure your date.
Weekdays vs. Weekends: Weekdays often have less traffic.
Time of Day: Early mornings are usually quieter.
Plan ahead to get the best moving conditions. Avoid holidays and local events. This reduces stress and makes your move easier.
Cost Management
Planning a long-distance move can be tough on your wallet. Understanding costs helps you avoid surprises. With Pronto Movers, you can manage your moving budget wisely. Here’s how to get started.
Budgeting For Your Long-distance Move
Start by making a list of all expenses. Include costs like packing supplies, truck rental, and fuel. Don’t forget about labor costs if you hire movers. Get quotes from different moving companies. This helps you compare prices. Create a budget that accounts for all services you need. Consider the time of year. Moving during peak season can cost more. Plan your move for off-peak times to save money.
Hidden Costs To Be Aware Of
Some costs might catch you off guard. For example, extra fees for large items or stairs. Ask your mover about any potential hidden charges. Insurance is another cost. You may want to protect your belongings. Check the coverage options before you move. Don’t forget about deposits. Some companies require deposits before moving day. Factor this into your budget.
Transportation Solutions
Long distance moves in Ottawa can feel overwhelming. Finding the right transportation is key. Pronto Movers offers expert solutions to make your move smooth.
Selecting The Appropriate Vehicle Fleet
Choosing the right vehicle is crucial. Each move has different needs. We assess your belongings carefully. Based on this, we select the perfect truck. Our fleet includes various sizes. This ensures we can handle any load. From small apartments to large homes, we have you covered. Our trucks are well-maintained and reliable.
Ensuring Safe And Timely Delivery
Safety is a top priority for us. We use protective gear and packing materials. This keeps your items secure during transport. Our trained drivers know the best routes. Timeliness matters in long distance moves. We plan each move carefully. This helps ensure your belongings arrive on time. You can trust us to keep you informed throughout the journey.

3. Aqsarniit: That's supposedly the Inuit word for the Northern Lights. So that'll be my placeholder name (if not permanent name) for this character. They're some Norse and/or Inuit demigoddess or nature spirit with ties to the northern lights. I want something to match Wonder Woman, except with more of the beautiful mystique of the snow and aurora, as well as with more respect paid to the indigenous communities of Canada. I have a well formed image of this character because this is a character type already beaten to death (honestly), but I think we could find a way to make it unique.
12. Green Lantern III (Guy Gardner): I actually like what I skimmed of Guy Gardner's backstory off of wikipedia. That being said, I'm still going to make a reinterpretation post. Because there's a few extra details I'd add to get him on this Canadian team. I'm not changing the core components, but I will mess around with his early life to get an explanation for him going from Baltimore in the comics to Vancouver (where I'll have him be raised in my reinterpretation).
13. Deadman (Boston Brand): Ala Hercules in the 60s Avengers, Deadman will end up lodging with the Justice League for around a year. For around 12-13 Issues, Deadman will just be a strange lodger at the Justice League base in Ottawa. Possibly exiled there, just as Hercules was? In any case, he will bring his unique abilities to the team for a brief time. And although Hercules is very silly and shakespearean, deadman is someone almost nobody can see. So him being on the team could make for all sorts of clever ideas and stories.
14. The Question (Vic Sage): Vic Sage was a popular television host in the montreal area. He had his own investigative journalism tv series, syndicated both in quebec and across canada (since he was bilingual and proficient in both english and french). Besides this new angle of him being French-Canadian, I think his backstory would remain much the same as it is in the comics (I skimmed his wikipedia page earlier, and it seems his backstory is fine as is).

How Preventive Maintenance Can Save You Money in the Long Run
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/81d7f5726740a2ae371f116453f1e840/ad9798ad2d2fb1ed-62/s540x810/0caced29ce8e63d5dbae2a918dfd0fd134532634.jpg)
Proper maintenance of your garage door might not seem like a pressing concern, but overlooking it can lead to unexpected costs and hassles. Whether you’re a homeowner or a business owner, preventive maintenance can help you save money and extend the life of your garage door. Below, we answer some of the most common questions about garage door maintenance to help you understand its importance.
1. What Is Preventive Maintenance for Garage Doors?
Preventive maintenance involves regularly inspecting, servicing, and addressing minor issues with your garage door before they escalate into major problems. It includes tasks such as:
Lubricating moving parts
Tightening bolts and screws
Checking the alignment of tracks
Inspecting the garage door opener and safety sensors
This proactive approach ensures that your garage door operates smoothly and reliably.
2. How Does Preventive Maintenance Save Money?
Skipping maintenance might save time initially, but it can lead to costly repairs later. Here’s how preventive maintenance can help you save:
Avoiding Expensive Repairs: Addressing minor issues early prevents them from escalating into major mechanical failures.
Reducing Energy Costs: A well-maintained garage door seals properly, preventing heat loss in winter and keeping your home or business cooler in summer.
Extending Equipment Lifespan: Regular care minimizes wear and tear, prolonging the life of components like springs, tracks, and the garage door opener.
3. What Are the Risks of Neglecting Garage Door Maintenance?
Failing to maintain your garage door can lead to:
Sudden breakdowns, leaving you stranded or unable to secure your property
Increased wear on critical components, resulting in expensive replacements
Higher energy bills due to poor insulation
Safety risks, such as a malfunctioning door falling unexpectedly
For businesses, neglecting maintenance can disrupt operations. If you need commercial garage door repair in Ottawa, professional assistance is just a call away.
4. How Often Should Garage Door Maintenance Be Performed?
It’s recommended to perform basic maintenance every 6 months. However, if your garage door is heavily used—like in a commercial setting—quarterly maintenance may be necessary. Schedule an annual professional inspection to catch issues that might not be visible to the untrained eye.
5. Can I Perform Garage Door Maintenance Myself?
You can handle basic tasks such as:
Lubricating hinges and rollers
Cleaning debris from the tracks
Testing the balance of the door
However, for complex tasks like spring adjustments or garage door installation in Ottawa, it’s best to rely on professionals to ensure safety and precision.
6. What Role Does the Garage Door Opener Play in Maintenance?
The garage door opener is a vital component, and its performance impacts the overall system. Regularly checking and maintaining the opener ensures it operates efficiently. If you're considering upgrades or replacements, garage door opener installation in Ottawa is a worthwhile investment for convenience and safety.
7. How Can Preventive Maintenance Improve Safety?
A well-maintained garage door is safer for your family, employees, or customers. Maintenance helps:
Ensure the safety sensors work properly
Prevent sudden door malfunctions
Avoid accidents caused by worn-out springs or cables
This is especially crucial for commercial establishments, where malfunctioning doors can pose serious risks.
8. Are There Signs That My Garage Door Needs Immediate Attention?
Watch out for these warning signs:
Unusual noises like grinding or squeaking
The door moving unevenly or getting stuck
Delayed response from the garage door opener
Visible wear on springs, cables, or rollers
If you notice any of these, schedule a professional inspection promptly.
9. Why Should Businesses Prioritize Garage Door Maintenance?
For businesses, a malfunctioning garage door can result in downtime, security risks, and liability issues. Regular maintenance ensures that your commercial garage doors operate reliably, safeguarding your operations and reputation.
10. How Do I Get Started with Preventive Maintenance?
Here’s how you can begin:
Create a maintenance schedule based on your door’s usage.
Perform simple tasks like cleaning and lubrication.
Partner with a trusted professional for annual inspections and repairs.
With proper care, your garage door will remain a dependable asset, saving you money and hassle in the long run.
Preventive maintenance is a smart investment for both residential and commercial garage doors. By staying proactive, you can ensure the safety, efficiency, and longevity of your garage door system.
