Hey, can i ask Hotch with a lawyer!male!reader ? Maybe when they meet during a case, the Reader having to ask questions about the case and all during the court/tribunal.
Ignore it if you don't want to write it !
-Crow anon
Hiya! I hope you like it! :)
((not sure how I feel about what I've written lol but hopefully you'll like it lol))
Warnings: mentions of taxidermy, mentions of murder and keeping eyes as trophies (season 5 episode 6)
Any case involving the BAU, or more specifically Agent Hotchner, was always a pleasure to work on. Granted, it usually meant that the material was extremely disturbing, but at least the company was decent - all things considered. And being one of the best prosecutors (not including Agent Hotchner when he was a prosecutor), more often then not you were placed on the BAU’s cases.
The current case was one you were going to remember for a little while. This particular unsub, a taxidermist named Earl Bulford, was hunting individuals and using their eyes in his taxidermy.
During the defense’s opening speech, Agent Hotchner leant close to you, “How do you predict this case is going to go?” He whispered.
“I think it’s going to be straight forward,” You mumbled back as Judge Matthews shot you a glare from her seat - but saying nothing.
Eventually, you called Agent Hotchner to the stand.
“And can you state to the court, Agent Hotchner, what was found upon closer inspection of his property?” You asked.
“That the unsub had been using the eyes of the victims in his taxidermy.”
“No further questions your honour.” You said, returning to your seat.
Agent Hotchner, as expected, answered the questions from the defense with ease and accuracy.
The trial lasted another two days before the jury found Earl guilty.
At the end of the trial, Judge Matthews approached you.
“(L/N), ask Agent Hotchner for his number.” Judge Matthews sighed. “I’m not sure I ever felt such romantic tension in a courtroom.”
“Judge Matthews-”
“(L/N), grow a pair and ask the man for his number.” With that, she grins and walks away.
You had a terrible feeling that someone watching you, you turned. Your cheeks immediately flushed seeing Agent Hotchner.
“Agent Hotchner,” You said, “How much of that did you hear?”
“All of it.”
“All of it… Right…” You nodded slightly, “Okay, and your stance on the phone number?”
“No objections here.”

I'm so psyched for Bad Faith omg!!! Maybe a sneak peek if possible? 👀👀
....Teensy itsy-bitsy sneak peak 🫶
Tumblr media
“Holy hell,” Jessica sighed. You grunted, head hanging as you felt the weight of her judgement. “Do you have any idea which entities you want to go after?”
“Yeah.” You set your drink down, reaching out to where you’d set your bag down and drawing out a bland beige file. You’d spent the morning working up your courage to come over and tell Jessica the awful truth, and had spent your time putting together the data to do it. You leaned back, flipping the file open and passing it over.
“This is every single property and holding company that I have my name on. I circled the apartment buildings that I want to sell, and the companies that I think would be best suited for my purposes.”
“Is Steven on all of these?”
“Only the ones that I put an asterisk beside, but I wouldn't be surprised if he came after the others."
Jessica hummed, nodding. “You knew exactly what I’d ask for.”
“Well, I know you.”
She smiled, closing your file and setting it on her lap.
“Then I’m sure you know what I’m going to say next.”
The implication made your stomach churn with discomfort. You took the glass up again, taking a deep pull from it.
“I do,” You admitted, “And I know that you’re going to say that it’s the best course of action—”
“The only course of action.”
“That’s patently untrue. You have more than one lawyer at your firm.”
“Not one that could handle a case of this magnitude.”
“Not even Louis?”
“Louis is like a french bulldog. Harvey is a pitbull.”
“You know, that’s actually a really harmful stereotype.”
Jessica’s brows lowered in chastisement, and you looked back down into your drink.
“Wouldn’t it be a conflict of interest?” You added.
“How could it be? You’ve barely spoken to or looked at the man in eleven years.”
Eleven years. Had it really been that long?
“I know that you and Harvey parted on bad terms,” Jessica offered softly, and continued over your indignant scoff, “But you need to come out of this with the funds and the strength for a good divorce lawyer. Harvey can give you that.”
“What if he doesn’t take the case?”
“He will.”
“But if he doesn’t?”
“He will.”
“Jessica.”
“He won't have a choice.”
“Oh, he’ll love that. There’s nothing better than having Harvey backed into a corner.”
“That’s when he comes out swinging the hardest.” She plucked the emptied glass out of your hand, heading toward the kitchen again. “Would you like another one?”
You sighed, slouching heavily against the couch and scrubbing your tired eyes.
“I’d just like the bottle of gin—and a straw.”

Meet Hematite and Jasper, a gem power couple and both halves of the fusion Bloodstone [design not yet made].
Yes, this is a Steven Universe/Dracula AU. Am I the first to ever do it? I doubt so, but I definitely am the best to ever do it.
I have all the gems lined up though I have not yet designed any. Pray for me if/when I try. A few of the gems are simple variations of the types we see in the show (like Green Jasper), though there are some that I had to conceptualize a place in gem society for (like Hematite). None of the main characters are human, though if I were to make any character human, it would be Arthur. That would change the story, dramatically, so I won't.
She/her pronouns for all the characters because I am not forcing a system as archaic as gender on a genderless society like that of Homeworld. We have the Gem Caste System to make the characters suffer under anyhow.
Character backstory and individual images under the cut.
Also, I have a Ko-fi.
Hematite is part of a class of gems whose role in gem society is most akin to human property lawyers. You might notice the resemblance to Zircons, which serve as attorneys in gem society. They deal in the management of transferring ownership of gem colonies. Gem colonies are most often given to high-ranking gems as proof of valour. As such, Hematites are few in number and they rarely if ever face combat.
(Green) Jasper is a Quartz soldier that was formed slightly offcolour. Instead of being broad and muscular, she formed thin and tall. Despite this, she retains much of the same strength of a regular Quartz and strives to prove her worth to her peers and her commander, Onyx.
Hematite was working with Onyx when she met Jasper, and something indescribable pulled them toward each other. Onyx, noticing their interest in each other, offered to let Jasper act as a bodyguard on Hematite's missions. It was on one of these missions that they met their friend Padparadscha, a noble gem with the power to see the future.
The day they fused, Jasper knew that she could not return to her life as a Quartz soldier, and Hematite no longer wanted to push papers to divvy out colonies. All they wanted was to find a place where they would be safe to be together. So, they turned to Padparadscha, who greeted their fusion with giddiness as she had known all along that they would fuse. With her foresight, she named the fusion Bloodstone, and with her influence, protected Bloodstone from Homeworld.
Bloodstone was uninvolved in the conflict on Earth, but when Steven Universe established Little Homeworld, she took the opportunity to live freely amongst other gems like her.
One day, she came upon the concept of human marriage and was enchanted. Hematite and Jasper unfused in preparation for the wedding. At that time, Hematite was to go on a mission to a faraway moon colony owned by a militant Andradite to inform her that the war was over and invite her to Little Homeworld... but what lies in store for her there?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In case it's not clear, I know I've been sitting with this for a while, so I am painfully familiar with all the inner workings, and y'all ain't:
Hematite: Jonathan Harker
(Green) Jasper: Mina Murray
Onyx: Peter Hawkins
(Star) Padparadscha: Lucy Westenra
Andradite: Count Dracula

During lunch he told us that Mrs. Westenra had for some time expected sudden death from her heart, and had put her affairs in absolute order; he informed us that, with the exception of a certain entailed property of Lucy's father's which now, in default of direct issue, went back to a distant branch of the family, the whole estate, real and personal, was left absolutely to Arthur Holmwood. When he had told us so much he went on:— "Frankly we did our best to prevent such a testamentary disposition, and pointed out certain contingencies that might leave her daughter either penniless or not so free as she should be to act regarding a matrimonial alliance. Indeed, we pressed the matter so far that we almost came into collision, for she asked us if we were or were not prepared to carry out her wishes. Of course, we had then no alternative but to accept. We were right in principle, and ninety-nine times out of a hundred we should have proved, by the logic of events, the accuracy of our judgment. Frankly, however, I must admit that in this case any other form of disposition would have rendered impossible the carrying out of her wishes. For by her predeceasing her daughter the latter would have come into possession of the property, and, even had she only survived her mother by five minutes, her property would, in case there were no will—and a will was a practical impossibility in such a case—have been treated at her decease as under intestacy. In which case Lord Godalming, though so dear a friend, would have had no claim in the world; and the inheritors, being remote, would not be likely to abandon their just rights, for sentimental reasons regarding an entire stranger. I assure you, my dear sirs, I am rejoiced at the result, perfectly rejoiced."
The way Stoker makes a point of lampshading Mrs. Westenra's bonkers will by having the lawyer go "well we argued against it and here's why", but then justified the necessity to the plot by having the lawyer go "but in this situation it was actually the one time it turned out most convenient, and here's why" is actually pretty fun.
Doesn't really go far in explaining why Mrs. Westenra would be so insistent on it to the point of leaving nothing directly to her actual daughter, but...

The Last Hero is a difficult book to quote, since I do not have a copy/past-able version, but it's worth the work! This is long, but I just had to share it all. :-)
If there are any typos, feel free to tell me!
--
Lord Vetinari found it best to set up a committee system. More of the ambassadors from other countries had arrived at the university, and more heads of the Guilds were pouring in, and every single one of them wanted to be involved in the decision-making process, without necessarily going through the intelligence-using process first.
About seven committees, he considered, should be about right. And when, ten minutes later, the first sub-committee had miraculously budded off, he took aside a few chosen people into a small room, set-up the Miscellaneous Committee, and locked the door.
"The flying ship will need a crew. I'm told," he said. "It can carry three people. Leonard will have to go because, to be frank, he will be working on it even as it departs. And the other two?"
"There should be an assassin," said Lord Downey of the Assassins’ Guild.
"No. If Cohen and his friends were easy to assassinate, they would have been dead long ago," said Lord Vetinari.
"Perhaps a woman's touch?" said Mrs Palm, head of the Guild of Seamstresses. "I know they are elderly gentlemen, but my members are–"
"I think the problem there, Mrs Palm, is that although the Horde are apparently very appreciative of the company of women, they don't listen to anything they say. Yes, Captain Carrot?"
Captain Carrot Ironfoundersson of the City Watch was standing to attention, radiating keenness and a hint of soap. "I volunteer to go, sir," he said.
"Yes, I thought you probably would."
"Is this a matter for the Watch?" said the lawyer Mr Slant. "Mr Cohen is simply returning property to its original owner."
"That is an insight which had not hitherto occurred to me," said Lord Vetinari smoothly.
"However, the City Watch would not be the men I think they are if they couldn't think of a reason to arrest anyone. Commander Vimes?"
"Conspiracy to make an affray should do it," said the head of the Watch, lighting a cigar.
"And Captain Carrot is a persuasive young man," said Lord Vetinari.
"With a big sword," grumbled Mr Slant.
Persuasion comes in many forms," said Lord Vetinari. "No. I agree with Archchancellor Ridcully, sending Captain Carrot would be an excellent idea. "What? Did I say something?" said Ridcully.
"Do you think that sending Captain Carrot would be an excellent idea?"
"What? Oh. Yes. Good lad. Keen. Got a sword. "Then I agree with you," said Lord Vetinari, who knew how to work a committee. "We must make haste, gentlemen. The flotilla needs to leave tomorrow. We need a third member of the crew–"
There was a knock at the door. Vetinari signalled to a college porter to open it.
The wizard known as Rincewind lurched into the room, white-faced, and stopped in front of the table.
"I do not wish to volunteer for this mission," he said.
"I beg your pardon?" said Lord Vetinari.
"I do not wish to volunteer, sir."
"No one was asking you to."
Rincewind wagged a weary finger. "Oh, but they will, sir, they will. Someone will say: hey, that Rincewind fella, he's the adventurous sort, he knows the Horde. Cohen seems to like him, he knows all there is to know about cruel and unusual geography, he'd be just the job for something like this." He sighed. "And then I'll run away, and probably hide in a crate somewhere that'll be loaded on to the flying machine in any case."
"Will you?"
"Probably, sir. Or there'll be a whole string of accidents that end up causing the same thing. Trust me, sir. I know how my life works. So I thought I'd better cut through the whole tedious business and come along and tell you I don't wish to volunteer."
"I think you've left out a logical step somewhere," said the Patrician.
"No, sir. It's very simple. I'm volunteering. I just don't wish to. But, after all, when did that ever have anything to do with anything?"
"He's got a point, you know, said Ridcully. "He seems to come back from all sorts of–"
"You see?" Rincewind gave Lord Vetinari a jaded smile. "I've been living my life for a long time. I know how it works."
