Halloween Day 1
I heard a loud knock on the door so I got up from my desk and headed out from my office into the main part of the apartment Casey sat on the little blue playmat with Edgar the two playing with many of Edgar's little toys, Casey saw me and smiled so I smiled back as I headed to the door opening it up to see the usual amazon man.
"Hi" I smiled
"Hi," He says handing over the large box
"Thanks" I nodded heading in shutting the door behind me and setting the box down on the kitchen counter "What have you been buying?" I asked
"...nothing," He says sheepishly
I grabbed a knife and opened up the box to reveal a myriad of items "What is all this?" I asked
Casey got up from the floor bringing baby Edgar with him on his hip having a peek in the box "Ohh yeah, I got some things for little boy"
"Without consulting me?" I glared
"You'll love them I know you will," he says sitting Edgar in his high chair and taking the box getting out the first item "It's a Binx onesie"
"Awww that is cute," I smiled looking at the little black onesie with orange cat paws on the feet, a little black tail, and even cat ears on the hood "That is sweet"
"I have more, I got him this little pumpkin jumper," he says showing a cute little orange fluffy jumper with seams to make it look like a pumpkin with a jack o lantern face sewn on
"Awww that's nice a little warm for him though"
"Well it'll be good, for when we go to the pumpkin patch"
"I suppose so"
"I also got this cute little skeleton set," he says showing some black pants and a shirt with a skeleton across it
"I like that the best that's adorable"
"No no no I saved the best for last my love," he says getting a little striped shirt and denim dungarees
"Uhhhh? not really on theme? you couldn't have got fall colours at least? make a shirt with ghosts on?"
"Do you know get it?"
"No?"
He rolled his eyes taking it and Edgar into another room for a moment When he returned Edgar was dressed up in the outfit
"Aww you look very cute darling," I smiled
"You still don't know?"
"No?"
"Uhhh does this help" he says getting a knife and holding it close to Edgar's hand
"Casey don't give him a knife!"
"I'm trying to help," he says "It's the Chucky doll outfit"
"Ohhh? I never saw any of the movies"
"Really? Well, I know what we're doing on Halloween," he says "But doesn't he make a cute little mass murderer?"
"He does, come here Edgar" I smiled pulling him into a cuddle "You look very handsome" I smiled giving his head a kiss "and you did good, but don't buy Edgar clothes without consulting me. Mummy knows the aesthetics best" I smiled
"Yes dear" He laughs giving us both a cuddle

WORD COUNT: 1504
After the king had taken his older sister into his office to talk and the twins had admired the bedsheets and towels that I had picked out for them, I had to transfer the king’s new bedsheets into the dryer and I tossed in the bath towels into the washer this time around.
“Mommy, can you buy some laundry hampers for me and Evie?” Aria asked me as she took a seat at the kitchen island across from her younger twins. “Me and Evie just toss our dirty clothes into a corner of the room.”
“I’ll ask the king when he comes out next,” I hummed, opening the Amazon app on my cell phone and adding a couple of laundry hampers to my wish lists. “What do you girls want for lunch?”
I was sliding the girls’ plated lunch over to them when the king and his sister came out from his office, the woman leaving the house and the king coming into the kitchen.
“Cathy needs to run off and deal with some drama at home,” he told me as he slid into a seat next to Evie, who was struggling to cut her food. He smiled kindly at her, motioning that he could cut her food for her and she happily handed over her plate, fork and knife. “Sweetheart, I’ve been watching videos up on YouTube, trying to learn sign language for Evie,” he told me next, finishing up his task and sliding the plate back over to the kids with a gentle kiss to the top of their head. “The local community college also offers some classes, so I’m looking into that as well.”
“Ah, okay,” I hummed, my ears perking upwards at the telltale tinklings that came from the dryer. I excused myself and went into the laundry room to take out bedsheets for the king’s bed and rotate the bath towels. I began to fold the sheets, working skillfully and quickly, smiling as I finished my task, stacking the freshly laundered bedsheets into the pillowcases and then carrying them into the kitchen.
“You got new bedsheets for our bed?” the king asked me nonchalantly, finishing up his lunch.
“Yes I did, your majesty,” I answered him respectfully as I took the girls’ new bedsheets into the laundry room, tossing them into the washer along with a detergent pod. “I checked the linen closet, and you only had the one set. I do hope that you don’t mind too much.”
“Sweetheart, I don’t care if you use my card to buy things that you and the girls need,” he validated my worrying, carrying his plate into the kitchen and running water over it. “Just don’t drain my bank account, okay?”
I smiled at him, thankful that my soulmate was such a sweet man.
“Before I forget, but I’ll have time to head off to Home Depot tomorrow and look at paint colors for the girls’ bedrooms,” he told me, holding up a hand as I opened my mouth. “Neutral colors, right? To make the bedrooms easy to age up with the girls as they grow up?”
“Yeah, that sounds like a plan,” I smiled at him, catching the twins having a telepathic conversation using just their facial expressions.
“Do you and daddy want us there?” Aria asked us sweetly, and I had a hunch what she was doing. “Me and Evie don’t mind staying behind and letting you two go out.”
Peter promptly burst out into uproarishly loud laughter at the girls trying to play wingman.
“Girls, the paint is going onto your bedroom walls,” I reminded them with a frown. “I do think you both should at least get a say into which colors we’ll get.”
“Sweetheart, let’s get the tiny pint sized cans of the colors you want to try out first,” the king suggested, still chortling. “That way, you can view the paint colors in different variants of light and can make a good choice.”
“Okay,” I hummed. “Girls, you’re coming with. End of discussion.”
“Yes mommy,” Aria meeped meekly before turning to sign to her sister.
“Hey sweetheart, what do you say to a date?” the king asked me shyly. “Just you and me?”
“YES!” cheered Aria excitedly, bouncing up and down on her seat. Evie let out a loud squeal as she joined her sister, the both of them jumping up and down on their bar stools.
“Girls,” I snapped. “Enough. Quit your bouncing unless you want to pay for new bar stools.”
“Yes mommy, sorry mommy,” Aria apologized, pushing her plate off to the side, signaling that she was done. The king took care of their now empty plates, planting quick kisses onto their temples before rinsing the plates and then setting them into the dishwasher.
“Sweetheart, tomorrow I have that dedication for the new children’s library opening in downtown,” he filled me in. “I’ll need to leave at nine AM to get to the event by nine fifty, and from there, I’ll cut the ribbon, pose for some pictures, be on a short film segment for the local news, and then I’ll return. We can go out for lunch after hitting up Home Depot after all that, does that sound okay?”
“Okay!” Aria chirped, answering his question to me.
“Alright now, you two go into the backyard and play!” I frowned, shooing the two sisters out the back door and sighing when I saw them beginning to frolic in the leaves. “Sorry about them, they’ve never acted like this before ever.”
“Don’t be sorry sweetheart, don’t be sorry,” he reassured me, leading me into a room in the back of the house that had a window which overlooked the king’s backyard, a nicely sized television and a comfy in appearance couch. “I’m happy that they like me enough to consider me as their father figure. It’ll make things easier for us moving forward.”
“Like how so?” I asked him, taking a seat on the squishy, comfortable sofa, being immediately snugged into his side as he wrapped an arm tightly around myself.
“Well, I called the agent who does my medical insurance, and she told me that you and the girls can only be added to my health care plan if you are my wife and the girls are officially adopted by me,” he shrugged, kicking his feet up onto the coffee table. “So if-”
“Yes.”
My response bubbled from deep within me, being joined by a happy smile as I settled my hand onto his chest.
“Pardon?” I could practically hear the king blinking owlishly.
“Yes, I’ll marry you,” I clarified before recovering myself. “That is, if that was what you were going to ask me.”
“Well, that wasn’t what I was asking you, but thank god!” he chuckled, pressing another sweet kiss onto me, this time to my temple. “This makes things so much more easier- like now I won’t need to stress about writing you a sappy poem or whatever.”
“YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!” screamed Aria, who apparently had been eavesdropping over by the partly opened window.
I promptly turned bright pink at the knowledge that Aria had been privy to our intimate moment, but the king clearly didn’t mind at all, as how he didn’t look displeased and wore a smile.
“You think they’re okay with it?” he asked me.
“Now you’ll officially be our daddy!” Aria cheered happily.
The king tossed his head backwards as he roared, tears of mirth pooling in his eyes as I tucked my face into his shoulder, not quite mortified- more so exasperated at my eavesdropping daughter.

Best 5 Amazing Electric Knifes Available in the Market 2023, Read the Full Review Here.
Electric knives have two camps. Many childhood memories involve a family member using one to swiftly and expertly cut meat or a Thanksgiving turkey. Nevertheless, some of us don’t know what an electric knife is or why you’d use one. I’m in the second camp, honestly. My father never used one because he liked sharpening carving knives (the hardest part of carving, he always said). I hosted Thanksgiving dinner the same way—the apple must not fall far from the tree! I never considered electric knives till this project.
Why choose an electric knife over a carving knife? Before testing these six top-rated electric carving knives, I could have told you they’re loud, pricey gadgets that will clutter your gadget drawer. After using the Black and Decker EK500B 9-Inch Electric Carving Knife (available at Amazon for $21.60), our favourite tool, I may have changed my mind. It showed me how to slice delicate bread, carve chickens, and hog loins in minutes using an electric knife.
How Electric Knives Were Tested
Tumblr media
A Tester
Chef Lindsay Mattison here. I’m a manual chef, so I’ve never had an electric knife. I’ll hand-knead bread dough next to a stand mixer or carefully cut veggies instead of using a food processor. I fell in love with our winning electric knife after testing these six. It’s likely in my gadget drawer when you visit.
The Tests
Tested six electric knives. We tested each electric knife’s blade sharpness, simplicity of use, safety, and noise level.
We had them carve a rotisserie chicken, thinly slice baguette into crostini, slice soft brioche bread into sandwiches, and slice a block of hard cheddar cheese to test their everyday use. These tests revealed the blade’s sharpness and ability to cut smoothly. We deducted points for jagged knife cuts. Nonetheless, any knife that could slice cheese well earned additional points (the test that most of the knives struggled with).
Then, we tested the knives’ use and safety. We used chicken grease-covered knives without reading the directions. After a few minutes, the finest knives stayed cold and didn’t vibrate. We needed a lengthy lead to keep out of the way when cutting and a safety lock to prevent inadvertent knife activation.
Lastly, we monitored knife noise. Our testers prioritised this. A buzz saw at the dinner table would destroy the mood. Our attention to this crucial detail will please the family dog.
Rapala HDEFAC
While our top two knives were in a close race for first, the Rapala Heavy Duty Electric Fillet Knife came in a far third. Like our top performing knives, the Rapala had a comfortable handle and felt safe to use. When it came to performance, it neither excelled nor failed the majority of our tests. Instead of slicing the cheese, it created a coarsely grated product. While it was able to slice the chicken and bread, it created jagged edges that didn’t look as nice as they could. It wouldn’t be our top pick, but we wouldn’t avoid using it, either.
Pros
Comfortable handle
Cons
Doesn’t cut neatly
Hamilton Beach 74275
We absolutely love that the Hamilton Beach 74275 Electric Carving Knife is the only knife in the group to come with a storage case. That makes it easy to bring over to a friends house or safely pack away in your gadget drawer. The set also came with a carving fork, which is great for anyone stocking up a starter kitchen. Unfortunately, its performance struggled, especially on the crusty baguette. It sort of hovered over the crust instead of piercing through the tough exterior. The large handle was also particularly difficult to hold, especially when our hands were covered in chicken grease.
Pros
Includes carrying case and carving fork
Cons
Mediocre cutting ability
Difficult to grip
Tumblr media
Cuisinart CEK-40
The Cuisinart CEK-40 Electric Knife came in a close second to our top pick, acing all the same tests as the Black and Decker. But, the latter rose to the top by performing more quietly than the Cuisinart. That being said, we liked the Cuisinart overall. It certainly wasn’t the loudest knife in the group and it made quick work of carving the chicken. The handle was comfortable and slip-free, and it had no problems taking down both types of bread. It was also one of two knives to actually slice the cheddar cheese, earning it bonus points. And, while we didn’t notice that much of a difference between the blades, it does come with a meat blade, a bread blade, and a nice wooden butcher-block holding tray.
Pros
Comfortable, slip-free handle
Can swap blades for different jobs
Includes butcher-block holding tray
Cons
Not whisper quiet
NutriChef PKELKN8
You’ll immediately notice that the NutriChef Electric Knife doesn’t share a design with the other electric knives. Instead of being a long handle, this product almost looks like an iron. That odd-shaped handle was actually surprisingly easy to hold, and we enjoyed the two-button safety feature that ensured the knife wouldn’t accidentally go off when we weren’t ready. Sadly, it struggled to do anything except carve the chicken and it sounded like we turned on a table saw every time we clicked it on. Since it had a short cord and an odd smell when in use, it dropped to the bottom of the pack.
Pros
Unique and easy-to-grip handle
Two-button safety feature
Cons
Loud and emits an odor
Not very sharp
Tumblr media
Black & Decker EK500B
There were two stand-out factors that made the ergonomically designed Black and Decker EK500B 9-Inch Electric Carving Knife our favorite knife in the group. First, its serrated blades (which are dishwasher-safe when removed) aced all of our performance tests, creating a presentation-worthy carved chicken and perfect slices of bread (both from crusty baguette and soft brioche sandwich bread). It was also one of two knives that could actually slice cheese! But, that’s not what impressed us the most. The Black and Decker was the quietest knife we tested and its ergonomic handle was the most comfortable of the group. The round handle fit perfectly in our hands and stayed put, even when our hands were covered in chicken grease. The knife created little to no vibrations, making it easy to keep our finger locked onto the trigger without slipping. And its quiet profile made it the most pleasant to use.
I would happily use this knife regularly to slice homemade bread or quickly break down a roast.
Pros
Slices a variety of foods with ease
Great grip with minimal vibration
Quiet
Cons
None that we could find

Okay so I saw this concept done before with Gil as reader's dad but I think it'd be WAY funnier with Phastos: reader is Phastos' best friend/family member (through Ben or something) and he finds out they are dating Druig (but neither of them know they know each other until the classic reveal *Kill Bill sirens go off* 😂). It'd be like the "I'm sorry what are we watching" vibes except WAY more incredulous. Love your Druig fics, thanks for feeding us so well 😘🖤
Do You Know Each Other?
Druig x Reader
Word Count: 2625
The reader is friends with Phastos, whom they know as Phil. What happens when they bring their boyfriend Druig to meet their best friend and his family?
This was written with a female in mind for possible future fics, but there is no specific gender mentioned. There is also no Y/N or name for the reader mentioned.
Warnings: Angst and fluff, that's it.
A/N: Sorry this took so long to get to, I have been sick 3 times in the past like 30 days.

Being home on vacation isn’t what most people think to do when they go on vacation, but to me it was. My job consisted of traveling all over Latin America, excavating and studying many of the ancient civilizations throughout the region. Coming home has been a sort of luxury since I landed a job in the Amazon almost four years ago. Shortly after getting the call that I received the job, I ended up selling my home and almost anything that wouldn’t serve a purpose in my extended stay in South America. That is why I am currently standing outside of my best friend’s house with a stuffed suitcase and a bag full of presents.
I stepped up to the dark wooden door and knocked. Within seconds I heard the sound of running feet, which put a smile on my face. The door swung open and standing there in the doorway was Jack.
“Oh my, I thought a little boy lived here, but all I see is a handsome young man. Tell me, what happened to my Jack?”
“It’s still me, I’m just older.” He said as he shot forward and engulfed my waist in a tight hug.
“Wow, you could have fooled me. You look so grown up now since the last time I saw you.” I returned the hug as soon as I placed my things on the ground. “Now, I know your father wouldn’t have let you open the door if he didn’t know it was me. Where is he?” I asked, kneeling down to be eye level with Jack.
“Um, I think he’s in the kitchen.”
“Okay then, why don’t you take me to him?” Jack nodded and helped me bring my things into the home. Once my bags were set in the living room, Jack took my hand and tugged me along into the kitchen where my best friend was standing, facing away from us chopping up some carrots. “Honey, I’m home,” I laughed out, opening my arms wide and shaking my hands to exaggerate my entrance.
“It’s about time, Jack wouldn’t stop asking when you would be here. Was driving me up the wall.” He stopped what he was doing and turned to face me and Jack with a wide smile.
“Oh Phil, he was only excited to see his favorite Godmother, I can’t blame him.” I smiled and moved around the counter to give Phil a tight hug. He placed the knife on the countertop and embraced me as well.
“It’s been too long since you’ve visited. I was beginning to worry that you had forgotten us.” He squeezed me tightly once more before letting go.
“It’s only been a year and we’ve video called a few times when I had the signal to do so,” I said as I backed away. Phil went back to preparing the food for dinner and Jack was nowhere to be seen.
“Well, that’s saying something when you used to be attached to me at the hip before you moved off. I used to think I would never have any time to myself, now it feels like centuries pass before you come to visit again.”
“You do know that you can come and visit me too, right? I’m sure my boyfriend could find a place since he is basically the leader of the village. The village I live in has plenty of room for the whole family to come. I also know Jack would love to help me go digging.” I informed him as I leaned back onto the counter.
“Speaking of this mysterious boyfriend, when will he be here? I thought he was going to arrive with you, or is he even real? You’ve never mentioned a name or anything at all about him other than the fact that he runs this village.”
“Oh, he had some important things to do in the city outside of the village. His flight was a few hours after mine, so he will probably be here for dinner. And He does exist, he’s just nervous meeting everyone. He knows that you three are the closest thing to family for me since mom died. As for his name, I’ll tell you when he gets here.” I laughed as I pushed myself away from the counter.
“So the mystery persists.” I heard him chuckle as I walked to the living room to pick up my bags.
I shook my head as I thought, he has no idea the reason why I have kept most things about him a secret from them. The main, and honestly only, reason being, Druig was an immortal being who had mind-control powers. I never felt it was my place to talk about him to Phil, on the off chance he wouldn’t approve of my being with a 7000 plus year old Eternal. With the Avengers and all, I know how people can react to others with special abilities and whatnot.
Walking upstairs with a full bag of presents and a suitcase wasn’t the hardest thing in the world to do, but add a ringing phone and an eight-year-old running up and down the same stairs, well let's just say, it’s not a fun time.
By the time I reached the second floor my phone had stopped ringing. So I took my things to the guest bedroom and fished the phone from my back pocket. Turning it on I noticed it was Druig who had called. Tapping on the screen I pressed on his contact name and the phone began to ring.
“Hey,” I greeted when he picked up. “Sorry I missed your call a minute ago, my hands were full and I was climbing up the stairs.”
“It’s okay sweetheart, I just wanted to call and tell you that the plane just landed. I should be there in an hour and a half or maybe two, traffic seems to be a nightmare.” He informed me.
“Okay, that's great, dinner will be done around then, so you’ll be right on time. You still have the address right?”
“I do, don’t worry. I love you, I’ll see you in a bit.” I smiled at what he said.
“I love you too. Be safe.” With that, he hung up and I was left to my own devices.
Quietly I set my suitcase down in the corner of the room and then started to sift through the presents I had brought. Jack, being a child, was receiving most of the gifts, but there were a few for both Phil and Ben. I stopped separating presents when I heard a soft knock on the door and in came Jack.
“Ooo, are these for me?” He asked excitedly.
“Yes, some of them are but you can only have them after dinner okay?”
“Okay,” he huffed disappointedly. “Will you come downstairs and play with me? I wanna show you the new toys I got for Christmas.”
“Sure thing kiddo, lead the way.” I smiled as he took my hand for the second time this afternoon and led me to his bedroom.
After an hour and a half of playing, we were finally called to dinner. We were met by Ben coming through the garage door, home from work.
“Ben, it’s so good to see you, I’d been wondering where you were.” I greeted him with a hug.
“It’s good to see you too.” He laughed. “I was just getting in a little overtime at the office.” I watched as he set his things down on a bench next to the door and then went in search of a hug from his son.
Phil handed me five plates and I began to set the table while he made the final touches to the chicken alfredo. I sat in my seat, leaving an open one for Druig to my right, and waited for the others. After a few minutes, Phil, Ben, and Jack all gathered at the table, taking their seats. One by one we all began to fill our plates with food from the pot in the center of the table.
“So,” started Ben, “How has life been in the Amazon, anything interesting happening with your dig sites?”
“Uh, it’s going pretty good. We have a site where we have found what we think to be some of the oldest burials in South America, but I don’t think that is a topic for the dinner table. I-” I was cut off by the doorbell ringing. My eyes lit up as I quickly pushed my seat back and stood to my feet. “That must be him, I’ll get it.” I made my way through the kitchen, down the hall, and to the front door as fast as I could.
As I opened the door, I saw Druig standing there and when he noticed it was I who opened the door, his lips grew into a big smile. He dropped his things on the porch and I went into his arms.
“It’s only been maybe ten hours since I saw you but god did I miss you,” he said as he gave me a passionate kiss on the lips. I kissed him back with a smile on my face.
When I pulled back I just looked at him. “I’m glad you made it here in one piece. Here, we can take your stuff into the living room, we can take them upstairs after dinner.” I reached down and grabbed his suitcase with one hand and his hand in the other.
“I’m kind of nervous to meet your friends.” He said looking down at our intertwined hands.
“Don’t be, I love you so I know they will too.” I tried to comfort him. “Come on, let's introduce you before dinner gets cold.” I pulled on his hand and led him into the kitchen. Phil was sitting with his back to us so Ben and Jack were the first to see us as we walked through the threshold. “Guys, I’d like you to meet my boyfriend, Druig.” I said with a big smile on my face.
Ben smiled and waved, as did Jack when I introduced them by name. Phil had yet to turn around even when I tapped on his shoulder to indicate who he was.
“Hey everyone, it’s nice to finally put faces to names. I’ve been told a lot about you all.” Druig said and I led him over to our seats opposite Jack and Ben.
That's when I heard Phil’s fork clattered onto his plate. I snapped my head in his direction, his face was contorted into a mixture of surprise, disbelief, maybe a tiny bit of anger. His eyes bore into Druig, who was on the other side of me and when I turned to look at Druig, he was also staring in disbelief at Phil.
“You- You two know each other.” He sputtered out after a length of awkward silence.
“Uh, yeah?” I let out a confused sound. “Phil, were you not listening when I introduced him as my boyfriend?”
“Oh I was listening, I just wasn’t expecting it to be him.” He pointed an accusatory finger past me at Druig. I just sat there confused, looking back and forth between the two men.
“You say that like you know him.” I paused. “Do you know each other?” I looked to Druig for answers.
“Eh, yes.” Was all he said.
“How?” I almost shouted in surprise.
Druig fiddled with the tablecloth for a second before starting, his accent seemingly thicker as he talked. “Well you know how I’m,” he paused and looked at Ben and Jack before looking at Phil, who nodded, which confused me even more. “You know how I’m an Eternal right? Well Phil, or as I know him, Phastos, is one too. We were sent to Earth together, I’ve told you about him, remember?”
“Jack cover your ears,” I ordered, and once he did I let out the longest string of expletives ever, after that Ben took Jack out of the room. I took a breath to calm down a bit. “First off,” I turned to Phil, or Phastos, “you lied to me. We’ve been friends going on almost ten years? And you never once thought to tell me that you're Eternal? I feel like that’s something your best friend should be informed about.”
“I’m sorry, I only tell people on a need to know and when we first met, I didn’t think you needed to know and then our friendship grew and I just never thought about it,” Phastos explained.
“So you just forgot to mention that you have magical abilities and you have lived, basically forever? Don’t you think that’s an important thing to mention?” I questioned. Druig, not having to be a mind reader, sensed how upset I was and stood to his feet, bringing me up with him.
“Come on Sweetheart, I think you need to calm down,” he said as he directed me out of the kitchen then let me lead us to our shared room upstairs, leaving Phastos alone at the table.
When we made it into the room, Druig sat on the bed and brought me down beside him. One of his arms was wrapped around my back and was rubbing circles there as his other hand repeatedly smoothed down my hair.
“Just breath,” he whispered as I took time to process what had just happened.
“Why wouldn’t he tell me any of that? We’ve been friends forever and he never told me this integral piece of information.” I huffed out. “You even told me, like, two weeks into us knowing one another? I want to know why it took ‘this’,” I waved my hands in a wide gesture, “for me to be told, and not even from him.” I buried my head deep into Druig’s shoulder.
“Well I can’t answer for Phastos, but I can say that he probably had his reasons. He has made a stable life for himself in the world and society. Many people don’t take well to learning that people near them are different. I told you early on because I don’t have to hide who I am from society. We live in the Amazon, I run what is essentially a commune. There was no reason for me not to tell you, you would have found out eventually since I use my powers very obviously.”
I nodded as I listened, understanding what he was trying to explain. “I get it, but it hurts that he never told me.”
“I know it does, baby.” He leaned down and gave me a small nudge with his forehead. I looked up at him and he instantly gave me a kiss. I smiled into it and kept smiling as we removed our lips from one another. “Now are you feeling calmer? Ready to go back downstairs and talk?”
“I guess so,” I sighed out as I stood to my feet, Druig’s hand in mine. “Thank you, this isn’t exactly how I imagined this going.”
“It’s nothing, just one of the perks that come with being in a relationship with yours truly.” He laughed as I elbowed him in the side. “Okay, fine. You’re welcome. At least now you know that Phastos and I will somewhat get along, no need to worry about absolutely heating each other like I know you were thinking when you mentioned meeting your friends.”
“Yeah, you’re right, but from the stories you have told me when you all lived together, I’m not too sure I believe that,” I said skeptically as I opened the bedroom door.
“What’s that supposed to mean?
“Nothing.” I blurted out as I quickly bolted from the room and down the stairs, laughing as I went.

sweet child o’ mine || spn || 2.5k || ao3
tags: canon typical mentions of violence from the slice girls, brief mention of blood
a/n: throwing this out into the void before I inevitably get sucked back into dc stuff tomorrow, so. here you go: a quick bundle of scenes of dean and emma, and a little deancas, and a little dean and jack. takes place around a year?? after the end of s15 (minus the finale because we don't accept that as canon in this household) title is from, you guessed it, sweet child o’ mine by guns n’ roses.
also! brief mention of the leviathan takes inspo from @/demenior’s fic series the love it takes which you all should go read asap 👀
*
Emma shows back up on a Tuesday.
The scuffle from the direction of the War Room draws Dean’s attention away from the long list of house listings he and Cas have been going through. Find a Fixer-Upper, Cas had said. We can make it our own. Dean was all for that, but finding their house, thee house, was taking longer than he’d like.
He thought nothing of the noise at first; Eileen may have come over or Sam may have been moving around artifacts again, or maybe Cas was back from the Farmer’s Market.
At Sam’s sudden shout, however, Dean goes running.
He whirls around the corner, gun whipping up to aim at whatever threat lay ahead. Sam is on his knees, blood dripping from his nose, and there’s a girl holding a blade to his throat. There’s something familiar about her, but Dean can’t place it. He doesn’t waver in his stance.
“Who the hell are you,” he demands, “and how did you—”
Dean falters, then, memories flooding back from a one-off hunt years ago. A one night stand, a sudden surprise. He pales as her face finally clicks.
That's his daughter.
“Not another step,” she snarls, fingers fisting tight in Sam’s jacket to hold him in place. Sam shifts his hand towards his pocket, and Dean pulls himself back to the present. He moves his supporting hand away from the gun and up to the side, placating, as he slowly lowers the gun to the ground.
“Woah, no no no, hey, no one’s gonna hurt anyone,” he rushes gently, catching Sam’s gaze with a look. Don’t. He turns his gaze back to hers and sets the gun on the floor. “I’m putting the gun down. Just let him go.”
“He killed me!” she spits, blade pressing deeper against Sam’s neck. “I can still remember the look on his face, and you had a gun on me too.”
“I know,” Dean says, chest twinging at the memory, “and I regret how I acted, Emma. It’s— it’s Emma, right?”
At the mention of her name, her fingers loosen on the knife and she inhales sharp and quiet. Dean takes that as a promising sign. He exhales.
“You...you remember?” she breathes. Dean can only nod.
“If I could go back and change that day I would,” he says. He risks a half step forward. Emma straightens and retightens her fingers.
“Don’t,” she warns.
“Emma,” he says, hands still up and placating. He fights not to lunge forward and tear the knife from her grip. He takes a breath. “Please. Let him go.”
“And why should I?” she demands. “So he can kill me again?”
Sam wisely stays silent.
“He won’t, I promise you. He was pretty messed up the last time you saw him. We both were, really. But I need you to trust me,” Dean pleads. “We...we’ve changed. I know you won’t believe that, but it’s true.”
Emma says nothing, but she gazes at him intently, as if looking for the truth behind his words. Dean slowly lowers a hand out to her, facing up.
“Just give me the knife,” he continues, palm open and waiting, patient. “Please.”
She searches his face a moment more. Dean waits.
“Fine,” she says finally, and Dean can hear the tremor in her voice. She shoves the dagger hilt into Dean’s palm.
“Thank you,” Dean says, soft.
He closes his fingers around it and moves it away, placing it on the map table. Sam stands and steps out of reach, coming to a rest just to the side and behind Dean. Dean and Emma just look at each other, assessing.
"Sam, why don't you go see if Cas is back," Dean says. There's a pause. Dean can feel Sam leveling him with a look.
"You sure?"
"Yeah," Dean says and spares him a quick glance and a nod. "Go on."
"All right," Sam says, hesitant. He glances between them, unsure, but he leaves them be.
"Take a seat," Dean says once Sam is out of earshot. He lowers himself into his own chair, hoping she’ll follow suit. "We have a lot to catch you up on."
“Where the hell am I?” Emma bursts, hands fisted at her sides. She doesn't sit. “What even is this place?”
“Home,” Dean says, lips quirking for a moment. He can hear the tell-tale flutter of Cas’s wings in the kitchen, arriving back from the farmer’s market, the low timbre of Sam’s voice as he speaks with him. Dean’s fingers itch for Cas, restless and wanting.
“You’re home.”
*
“You’re locking me up?”
“Listen, kid, I'd rather not do this, either, but you did try and kill us last time you saw us. And again today,” Dean says matter-of-factly, leaning against the doorway, arms crossed.
“I was ordered to slaughter you, and return with your hands and feet,” she says.
“Well, that’s gruesome,” Dean says.
“I didn’t have a choice,” she whispers, glaring at the room as if it’s a prison sentence. She doesn’t take a step forward.
“You always have a choice,” Dean counters, insistent. “Maybe not then, but you do now. We made sure of that.”
Her brows furrow in confusion. “What do you mean?”
“We...might have killed God,” he confesses, shrugging helplessly. “He was a dick.”
She stares at him.
“You killed...God.”
“Yup,” he says, popping the ‘p.’ “It was a whole thing. Don’t worry about it.”
They stand in silence, glancing looks at one another in turn. Emma doesn’t step into the room. Dean doesn’t push. When he was younger, he may have forced her in against her will, locking the door behind him until morning and walking away from her desperate pleas to let her out. He’s grown, though. Changed. They’ve all changed, him more than most. His dad’s voice still rages in his head from time to time on the worst days, about how he’s grown soft, and wouldn’t last a day in the field.
But he’s made it this far. Their little rag tag group has beaten every adversary they’ve come across, even God, and over time they’ve all grown. They’re family.
Emma, however briefly they’ve known her so far, is family. Or she will be, if she wants to be.
Dean sighs, and strides in alone.
“Change of plans,” he says, tugging on the corner of the mattress. Emma watches him from the doorway, confused. “Help me with this, would you?”
*
“I don’t like this plan,” Cas says with a grumble after dinner, eyes squinted in distrust as he watches Emma from the far side of the doorway. She’s perched at Dean’s desk, flipping through the various papers and books with mild curiosity.
“I'm not locking her up, Cas,” Dean murmurs, chest panging. “We didn’t do right by her the first time around, and I’m not going to treat her like we did before. We’ve learned since then, and I’m— I’m not—”
“Dean,” Cas interrupts, reaching out to grip his fingers. Dean squeezes back. “I trust you. If you think it best, then we’ll go with it. But I will be listening in case anything goes wrong.”
Dean’s chest warms.
“Thanks, sweetheart,” he answers with a smile, leaning over to peck Cas’s cheek. Cas’s free hand drifts upwards, catching Dean’s jaw to tilt him down into a full kiss. Dean hums.
“Love you,” he murmurs against Cas’s lips. Cas mimics his response as he presses his nose to Dean’s and vanishes in a flutter of wings. Dean opens his eyes to Emma’s face screwed up in disgust, cringing in the chair.
“What,” he asks, challenging.
“Gross,” she comments. “Why do you kiss if you’re incapable of copulating?”
Big words for a...shit how old is she? Dean muses, brain stalling out. One? Two? How many years is that in Amazon years?
“Because we’re in love, kiddo,” he says finally, shutting the door behind him and collapsing onto his bed with a sigh. Sam will be by to lock it before bed.
“Gross.”
Dean just laughs.
*
“Are...are you awake?” Emma whispers into the dark, hours later. Dean shifts, turning his head towards her voice up on the bed. He refused to let her sleep on the floor, regardless of the fact they’d both be on a mattress. She doesn’t have memory foam. She deserved to experience it at least once.
“Yup,” Dean whispers back.
“Oh,” she breathes. She pauses. “I, um. I’m hungry, I think.”
“Yeah?”
“Yes,” she answers, hesitant. “Sorry. I know it’s bad timing.”
“Nothin’ to worry about,” Dean answers, raising himself onto his elbows to find her. She’s sat up against the headboard, knees pulled to her chest. She looks so young.
Dean’s chest pangs.
“Luckily for you,” he continues, standing and heading to his desk, “I happen to be one of the best at picking locks.”
He rifles around in the top drawer for a moment. Eventually he finds what he’s looking for and turns around with a smile, lock picks in hand.
“Have you had those the whole time?” she asks, not moving from her spot on the bed. Dean shrugs.
“Didn’t want to give you the chance to do something you may regret,” he answers. “Clearly that wasn’t something we needed to worry about though, unless you’re faking right now?” he asks, eyebrow raised in suspicion.
“No.”
“Well, good on that then,” Dean answers. He waves the lockpicks in his hand.
“Ever been on a jailbreak?”
*
“I saw you once,” she says over a bowl of strawberry ice cream, “in Purgatory.”
“Oh,” Dean says, memories flooding back of the horrors from that long, long year. He tries to remember ever spotting a young girl in the vast, grey-colored woods. “I never saw you.”
“Good,” she says, corner of her mouth lifting up in tired amusement. “You weren’t supposed to.
“I got very good at hiding,” she continues, stirring the melted soup of her ice cream around her bowl. “I may have been bred for fighting, but some monsters are... too much for one girl to handle.”
“I, uh. I know what you mean,” Dean answers, setting down his spoon as his stomach churns at the thought of her scared and alone in Purgatory of all places. He’d seen how terrifying some of those monsters could be, the sheer magnitude of the Leviathan in particular. He’d had Benny, at least, and eventually Cas, but her on her own…
“Were you on your own the whole time?” he asks carefully. She doesn’t lift her gaze from her bowl. Dean waits.
“For the most part...yes,” she answers. “Making friends in Purgatory is, um.”
“I know,” Dean rasps. They sit in silence. Dean’s not hungry anymore.
“There were other Amazons,” she says after a while. Dean glances back up. She carefully doesn’t look at him, stirring her ice cream around and around her bowl. “We didn’t necessarily see eye to eye.”
Dean doesn't know what to say to that.
“I don’t want to be like them,” she says in a rush. She clamps her mouth shut, eyes wide with terror in her gaze, as if Dean would react poorly to her statement. Something about her fear strikes a nerve in him, reminds him too much of a little boy trying with all his might to please his father.
Dean wants to go kill a few more Amazons.
“You don’t have to be,” he reassures her. He reaches out and places a comforting hand on her wrist. She flinches at the contact, but doesn’t pull away. Dean holds. “Emma, you can be whoever you want to be. Family shouldn’t dictate who you decide to be.”
“Wasn’t your father a hunter?” she asks, wary.
“He started hunting when I was little,” Dean answers carefully, “and raised me into that. Just like you, I didn’t have a choice, then. But things have changed. They’re complicated, for sure, but I— I am not my father. You don’t have to be like your mother or sisters. Or, uh, like me either,” he says. He rubs his free hand across the back of his neck, self-conscious. He clears his throat.
“The point is,” he continues, “is that whatever you want to do and whoever you want to be is entirely up to you. You’re welcome to stay in the Bunker, if you’d like, or uh, head out on your own, I guess, if that’s what you want. I don’t want to keep you trapped here. We’re gonna get you a phone first, though, if you decide to leave. You may have shot up like a weed, but you’re still a kid, just like Jack.”
“Jack?”
“Long story,” Dean says, waving his hand as if shooing away the conversation, “you can meet him later. I just. I don’t want you to be alone, again. Not when you don’t have to be.”
“I’d like that,” she says, slow and careful, mulling over her words, “to...to stay here, I think. At least for a while.”
“Yeah?” Dean asks, stress sliding away. “We’re a pretty rag-tag group of fellas. Though Eileen comes by often; you’d like her, I’m sure.”
“Yeah,” she answers with a shy smile. “Yeah, that would be nice.”
*
She ends up in the room just down the hall from Dean. He takes her shopping the next day, much to Sam’s hesitation, but Cas only offers a knowing smile and turns back to his crossword of the day. Dean figures Cas been where Dean is now, both with Claire and Jack, to an extent. He’s gone through many similar struggles.
Now it’s Dean’s turn.
*
Jack confesses to being the one to bring her back.
“Almost everyone else from our family got a second chance,” he explains when Dean finally corners him later, bribing with peanut butter cookies, “I figured she should get one too, even if you barely knew her.”
“That was sweet of you, Jack,” Cas says from over Dean’s shoulder, hand slipping beneath Dean’s jacket to rest comfortingly at the small of his back. Dean leans into the gesture.
“It was,” Dean agrees. “Thank you, Jack.”
Jack beams.
*
When they find their fixer-upper, Dean triple-checks that there are enough rooms for everyone. One for him and Cas, one for Jack, one for Claire, one for Sam and Eileen whenever they come to visit—
And one for Emma.
She disappears for a while a month into staying with them, heading out with Claire to help figure herself out. It’s not until her first hunt (against Dean’s best wishes) where she kills for the first time that her rapid aging kicks in. She settles somewhere in the mid-twenties range; Dean doesn’t know for sure. It’s a bit too reminiscent of Jack, but they’re all used to weird magic things by now, and no one questions it.
She leaves often, these days, coming into her own over time, but Dean is proud of who she’s grown into the past few years since Jack brought her back.
She always returns home, though, and Dean welcomes her with open arms every time.

Last Laugh (2 of 3)
“Oh, I noticed,” Red X said lowly, tossing the staff aside. “What that idiot was thinking letting Flamebird send you all the way across the country right after Batkid got blown up, I’ll never know.”
Robin flinched back at the accusation before his fists clenched at his sides. “Then you’ll be happy to know no one sent me here. It’s just where I ended up when Batman decided he didn’t want to work with me anymore and tossed me out.”
The story of how Dick ended up with the Titans in Batkid and Robin.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jason once told Dick that he spent months after he’d come to the manor worrying he’d be dumped back onto the streets at any minute. As a result, he’d kept go-bags hidden around, ready to go at a moment’s notice in hopes that he’d have time to grab one before he was sent away. They each had water bottles and food stolen from the kitchen, bandages from the infirmary, a backup set of clothes, a good blanket, a knife, and some cash he’d save whenever Bruce would give him any.
The others had known about them, of course, but hadn’t said anything. Jason had only known because Bruce would sneak some extra cash into them and Selina would slip in things that could be useful on the streets that he hadn’t considered while Alfred had checked them every so often to refresh the food and make sure he wasn’t filling them with junk food.
Once he’d gotten more comfortable, he’d started giving them up. By the time Bruce had disappeared, all the bags Jason had hidden had been unpacked. He never let go of his need to be prepared, though. So in place of the bags, he had four briefcases. Bulletproof, fireproof, blast-proof, and with encrypted locks, they were filled with paperwork for Jason to use in case he ever needed to go on the run. Each had everything necessary for a fake identity, including corresponding bank account information. All were created outside the family’s influence just in case the reason he needed to lie low was mind control.
Dick had never seen what was inside the first two, didn’t even know where Jason had stashed them, but he knew the third had a file for Casey Jacob Dickinson. Only because the fourth held the file for Casey’s half-brother Ryan Emil Dickinson.
The latter is the one Dick took when he snuck into Jason’s room and pried up the loose floorboard hidden under the dresser in the closet. It was their special secret, something only they shared. Something Jason had trusted Dick and only Dick with.
“Thanks, Jay,” he said, replacing the floorboard. He pushed the dresser back into place then moved to leave, but paused when he spotted the brown jacket hanging by the door.
Dick had gotten it for Jason to match his own red Batkid hoodie. He’d accidentally gotten it in a larger size than Jason usually liked to wear, but that hadn’t stopped his brother from wearing it every time the two of them hung out with just each other.
Running his thumb over the red robin patch on the shoulder, Dick stared at the jacket for a moment before pulling it off the hanger.
They wouldn’t miss it. No one had been in the room in over a month.
Case in hand and jacket slung over his shoulder, he snuck back to his room. He opened the case and pulled out the file. He slipped the ID and debit card into his wallet before putting the file into the lockbox. He carefully folded the jacket and set it into the case along with the small photo album Selina had helped him put together. It held pictures of everyone in the family, including the photo Tim had given him of himself, his parents, Damian, Jon, Duke, Tim, Steph, Jason, Babs, and Cass from that night.
It was the only picture he had of his parents, thanks to the people who ran Gotham Juvenile Detention losing almost everything he’d taken with him from the circus. He had another copy on his nightstand back at the house he, Damian, and Jon shared -- had shared -- in Somerset. The family he’d lost side by side with the family he’d gained. It made him sad every time he saw it, but it was still his favorite.
Except now they were both families he’d lost.
At least if Bruce gets his way.
Dick slammed the case closed and stuck it into the duffle bag next to the lockbox. He locked the box then piled in the clothes he’d already gathered. He tossed his wallet into the bag then zipped it up and shoved it back under the bed.
One last thing to do.
He was halfway to the closest cave entrance when he bumped into Bruce and Selina.
“Hey there, songbird,” Selina greeted.
“Hey.”
“Dinner’s almost ready,” Bruce said and reached out to ruffle his hair.
Dick stepped away before he could, then walked past them. “Not hungry.”
“He heard the news, then?”
“Hm.”
“I’ll talk to him.”
“I will. I’m the one he’s mad at.”
Dick stomped into the library, ignoring his tail.
“Dick, let’s talk.”
“I don’t want to talk to you.”
“I know you’re upset, but -”
“Then leave me alone.”
“Please just let m-”
“I get it,” Dick snapped, spinning to face the man. “You got what you wanted. You didn’t want Damian to -” To foster him, to bring him into Bruce’s home, to try and make a place for him in the family. He’d heard enough snippets of the arguments Damian and Bruce had had when Bruce came back. He’d always thought Bruce thought Damian was the problem, that he didn’t trust Damian with Dick and planned to take Dick in himself. He’d also thought Bruce had finally accepted that Damian was keeping Dick. Had he been wrong on both counts?
Or had Dick’s actions ruined everything?
“Why couldn’t you just leave us alone?”
“Dick,” Bruce sighed. He knelt in front of Dick and set his hand on the boy’s shoulder. “I just want what’s best for you.”
“Anything to get what you want,” Dick snorted and pushed the hand off so he could turn away before Bruce could see his tears.
“Dick, wait.”
A hand caught his wrist and Dick…
He was losing his family again. Jason was dead. Bruce had taken Robin. Damian was sending him back. His only hope was that the others would fight for him, but would they?
If they didn’t, he’d be alone.
Again.
And it would be his fault this time.
But it would also be because…
Dick spun around and hit Bruce right in the jaw.
Then he ran.
Tim and Jason had both long outgrown the small vent hidden above a tall bookshelf in the far corner of the library and Dick had never needed to use it, but it still swung easily on the hinges the second Batkid had installed after discovering the hidden nook.
He climbed through and let the vent swing silently shut behind him. He crawled down the shaft until he reached a similar vent. He dropped down into a thin, dusty hallway. Down the hall, around a corner, then down another hall was a small door halfway up the wall. A makeshift ladder led up to it and a hidden lever opened it, revealing Bruce’s study.
Dick dropped out of the hidden passage, letting the door swing shut behind him to meld unnoticeably with the rest of the wall. He twisted the hands of the grandfather clock on the opposite wall and disappeared down into the cave, heading for the vehicle bay.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dick left while the others were all patrolling and Alfred was taking a break. He used a bike that he’d removed the tracker from and kept all his devices off. He went to a hotel in the Bowery that he knew was shady enough to look the other way when a fourteen-year-old rented a room on his own, but not shady enough to take advantage of it.
He gave it a week, then two, before sneaking onto a roof in Coventry on a night he knew Oracle wouldn’t be working. He turned on the comm he’d brought and listened in. For the most part, everything was just the usual reporting in. However, things changed just before one.
“I’m moving in. Going dark,” Batman said.
“Got it, B-man,” Batgirl chirped. After a moment, in a more somber voice, she said, “So…”
Black Bat groaned and Orphan said, “No.”
“You don’t even know what I was going to ask!”
“We haven’t heard anything, and we’re not getting involved,” Black Bat said shortly.
“Not our place,” Orphan agreed.
“I know that! I was just wondering if Flamebird’s changed his mind,” Batgirl huffed.
“It’s for the best,” Orphan said after a moment.
“I get that,” Batgirl sighed. “I’m just going to miss the kid. I already miss him, and I know Oracle and Pup do too.”
“We all feel that way, but… I feel bad that he’s losing Robin, but he needs to get away from all this. After everything that’s happened… Flamebird’s right,” Black Bat said softly.
“Robin will be better off there, no matter how much we miss him,” Orphan insisted.
“Yeah, yeah. Have you guys gotten any leads on where he could -”
Dick didn’t hear the rest of Batgirl’s question as he yanked out the comm and smashed it on the ground.
He’d thought… He’d hoped…
But they agreed with Bruce. They agreed with sending him away. They weren’t going to talk Damian around.
Dick pressed his face into his knees and screamed.
He couldn’t stay in Gotham. The Bats would eventually find him, and now he knew that’d be a one-way ticket back to juvie.
He left the hotel in the morning.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Robin had been hesitant to stay with the others. There was no way the Bats hadn’t noticed his involvement in the invasion that had brought their team together. It was better for him to move on as soon as possible
He really hadn't wanted to, though.
They had been an amazing team and had quickly become friends. He also knew they would understand his past if he told them since Wonder Girl was an outcast among most Amazons as a result of her Brazilian heritage, Impulse was dealing with the fact her father was currently lost in the Speed Force, Virus was still trying to reconnect with his people now that he’s free from the Mawlix, and Nightstar had run away from home to get away from her absentee mother’s shadow.
That was the only reason he stayed as long as he had while they began to put together their base using the remains of Virus’s ship.
He was working up to telling the team he had to leave when he stumbled upon Impulse and Wonder Girl talking in the common area.
“It’s a shame, really,” Impulse sighed, clutching a magazine.
“Boohoo,” Wonder Girl snorted, not looking up from her book.
“I’m serious.”
“He’s one boy, and not even a worthwhile one from what I’ve seen.”
“Speedy said White Arrow and Silver Canary have met him, though, and he’s super sweet.” The speedster shoved the magazine towards her face. “Plus, just look at him!”
Wonder Girl shoved it away, rolling her eyes.
“What’s going on?” Robin asked hesitantly.
“Impulse is crying because some famous pretty boy is going away to boarding school.”
The speedster shot her a look then turned sad eyes on Robin. “It’s Richard Grayson!”
Ice shot down Robin’s spine. “What?”
“Yeah, the Waynes are shipping him off to some school overseas,” she said, waving the magazine towards him and he took it. “The family wouldn’t say where since they wanted…”
Robin fell back on his training to keep his face blank and his hands steady as he scanned through the article.
They knew where he was, and they were covering it up. They had come up with a grand lie about him going to school in England to explain his absence.
They weren’t coming for him.
“Poor guy,” he said, closing the magazine and handing it back.
“See, Robin gets it!” he heard Impulse say as he turned and left.
