Hover pulled up to the spot on his gear. He was in his usual attire but this time he had a backpack on. He knew just walking into this could be a trap but the letter…..he hasn’t been able to find them…everything was trashed and it terrified him. As much as he didn’t want to admit.
@reckless-weasel
-> The building looked.... Rundown. Rundown and disgusting. Which made sense for the downtown area of Crossroads. The king didn't give a fuck about this area, because it wasn't being seen by the public eye. -> The two blue demons could be seen in the center of the room, tied up with their backs against each other. They both also looked... Wet? Really wet, like something had been poured on them. Cat was awake, awake and shaking like a leaf. But Coole was out like a light, the eyes of his visor gone too.

by the way I say the Best Philosophy Prof Ever is the Best Philosophy Prof Ever because the man can explain philosophy in a way that I can actually understand (our Plato unit in first year was traumatic) (least of all because I was running a fever throughout and now remember nothing about Plato's Republic except that I finished it) (other ventures into philosophy have been equally distressing), teaches in a very nuanced and contemplative manner, answers all student questions with the same gravity and consideration, is the ONLY Christian professor I know at this university (I've been here 4 years now), and responds to emails with double exclamation marks and this smiley face: =)

Seven top things to do with hoverboards
Tumblr media
Hopping and riding on top of a hoverboard is the new trend. It came about two decades ago. It is a trend that has lasted very long. It is still in fashion and it does not seem like it will go out of the trend anytime soon.
Have you recently bought yourself a new Segway hoverboard? Or perhaps you have bought one for a relative or for your child. Or maybe you are just reading this out of curiosity to learn more about hoverboards in general. It does not matter, whatever the case it might be.
Today you are going to learn about the top seven things that you must do with your hoverboard. It is very important to know everything that you can do with a new gadget that you bought. If you want to get the most out of something, then it is crucial to understand how a thing works. Having knowledge and understanding about something that you own or are interested in buying, never hurts!
So keep on reading and check out the top most things that you must do with your hoverboard or as we might call it, a Segway.
Top 7 things that you can do with your new hoverboard
Take Breaks and Give Breaks
Now you must be wondering what this phrase "take breaks and give break" means. Do not worry because we have got you. It means that hoverboards are small mini scooters. They are not like extremely powerful machines and vehicles. It is very easy for hoverboards to heat up. Especially during the summer season. It is not safe to drive or ride on a heated up hoverboard due to many reasons. Those reasons can be:
You hoverboard's battery can heat up and this can result in exploding.
Hoverboard battery heat up can result in a fire.
It can be dangerous for your well-being.
You hoverboard might stop working permanently if you use it too much.
You hoverboard can get damaged.
So what should you do?
You should let your hoverboard cool down fully before you try to put it on charging or using it. This way you will be able to manage your hoverboard and its battery in a good way. It sure is very important to buy very good quality of hoverboards made with good metals and premium material. But what is even more important is the fact that everything will go to a waste you do do not know how to do the maintenance of your hoverboard properly.
Keep an eye on the battery and the battery life of your hoverboard
Whenever you are about to go outside and have a ride on your cool new hoverboard, always make sure that it is charged fully. If it is not fully charged then it will damage the battery. One more thing that you should know to always keep in your mind is that always plug out the charged on time and do not overcharge your hoverboard or segway battery. Doing this can cause huge damage to the battery of your hoverboard and it can even burn or catch fire!
Clean and neatness
You always have to make sure that you always clean the tires of your hoverboard. You should always do this after you come back from a ride outside on the road. This way no dirt or other junk will get caught in the wheels of your hoverboard. If a lot of junk gets collected inside the wheels of your brand new segway then it might stop working properly.
Storage
you should have a look at what place you are storing your hoverboard in. If you do not need to use your segway for a long period of time and want to store it, then you should store it in a cool and dry place always. This way your hoverboard will not heat up and extra moisture will not get inside the battery of your hoverboard. The temperate of the place matters a lot.
Expertise
If you end up breaking your hoverboard, then never attempt to open up its screws and fix it all by yourself. Always consult an expert on this matter.
Have a look at the pedals of your segway from time to time
If one day you ride your hoverboard but it is not coming in a stable position, then it is an indicator that the pedals of your hoverboard are loose. Then in this case you will have to go to an expert.
Instruction manual
Always read the instruction manual and use your hoverboard for the things it is meant to be used for!

How E Scooters are the new alternative to cars for traveling to work?
Go Green or Go Home!
Segways and hoverboards are an eco-friendly way to commute on a daily basis as compared to cars and bigger vehicles. Cars and large transport facilities emit a lot of smoke into the environment. The gasses emitted from those cars are a major reason behind the climate crisis that we are facing today. Many people still refuse to believe it but climate change is real!
Living on this planet, it should be our first priority to protect its eco-system and environment. Everyone has a small contribution to it. When we all come forward and take a part in it then things will start changing our planet and its climate.
How using hoverboards is a green option?
Using Segways for daily commute is a green option in many ways for our planets that is because of the following reasons:
Segway and hoverboard are charged and are operated on batteries.
They are charged by using electricity
No fuel is needed
No gas is emitted
No smoke is emitted
It is friendly for the atmosphere
Hoverboards are a small and lightweight option to commute. The best thing about owning a hoverboardsegway is that you do not have to ride on cycle or busy metros. It is a faster option with no hustle at all. People can easily take it out and go to work in the mornings. Instead of using a cycle, use hoverboards to commute to work easily.
The hoverboard is a clean and environmentally friendly machine. People nowadays use cars and bigger vehicles even for traveling short distances. For example, picking up a bottle of jam from the local grocery store. This is the main reason behind gas and polluted atmosphere today. Segway is the best option because it does not produce any smoke because it does not need any fuel!
Why should you choose a hoverboard to travel to work?
It has many other perks as well such as you will not have to do the heavy workout. Because riding a cycle early in the morning is basically a heavy workout. It will cause you to sweat a lot. DPxDC Multiverse Police (pt. 2)
"You said you're going to ask questions, then can we ask questions?" Superman really tries to be polite here because, first, he was raised by Kents and, second, Jazz and the whole interdimensional police thing looks non-hostile. At least now.
The redhead nods, "Sure, ask away, I'll answer everything I can." Then, she notices Batman reaching to touch the green shield and makes a soft, warning noise, "Ah, sorry, please don't touch it. I can show how it works later, but it's not meant to keep you out. It's to keep everything else in."
Batman reluctantly puts his head down and turns to her.
"Elaborate."
The sci-fi ship in the air makes a loud hissing sound, like compressed air being released, and the bottom part of it slides open. Jazz nods in the direction of the now open ship.
"You know what they say, it's better to see it once than to hear it ten times."
There are three humanoid figures standing in there. All of them are mostly monochrome, black and white clothes, starkling white hair. They look like one adult and two children, but it's one of the kids who raises his hands to his mouth and yells so loud everyone in three miles radius is able to hear him:
"Step away from the shield, please, shit's about to get real!"
None of the heroes move, but Jazz does take a few steps away. Wonder Woman, after a moment of hesitation, follows her example.
A mechanical voice comes from the ship itself, "Countdown to the breach. Five... Four..."
On 'three,' all three of the monochrome figures step out from the ship. But, before any of the heroes have time to worry, they all float in the air, undeterred by gravity, and the ship door closes behind them.
The countdown reaches 'one'. And in the next moment, it looks like the hell breaks loose.
Countless giant vines shoot out from the portal up, reaching for the ship. True to what the red hoverboarder said, they are very much toothy, every vine splitting in two and attempting to bite the ship like some twisted idea of scissors.
None of them reach it.
The oldest of three kids claps his hands, and a wall of raging fire descends on the vines, throwing them off. In the next moment, the trio falls apart, flying through the lovecraftian mess of carnivorous plants with practiced ease, the younger ones using what looks like icicles and little storms.
"Who are they?" Batman asks Jazz, following the youngest one's - the only girl among the three - movements as she creates a strong gust of wind with a wave of her hand. None of the vines or attacks get past the shield, though.
"My siblings," the girl answers, pointing her hand at the oldest one, "That's Dan. He's the most violent. One time, he destroyed our original world, but that timeline doesn't exist anymore." She then points to the girl, "That's Dani, the youngest. She rarely joins the crew lately. And she is actually a clone, but at this point, most of us have been cloned once or twice, so it's not a big deal anymore." She then points her finger to the last one, a boy that flies past them quicker than a lightning, freezing everything he touches, "And this is Danny. He is the most powerful one. Technically, he could have just ended the fight with one Wail, but kids like to have fun. Also, they don't get to show off their elemental powers a lot, so they are mostly being dramatic for you."
She says all this so easily, just like a matter of fact, and it is at this moment that the members of JL realize the sheer power of whoever these people are. When she casually told them she bested Superman, it could have been written as a coincidence, a joke. But this?
Dan growls as one of the vines scratches his shoulder. He bleeds green, but it's only for a second before both the wound and the suit knit themselves back together. This is not just a simple accelerated healing, it almost looks like a miracle.
"Oi, brats, I'm done with show off, get out of the way!" He yells at the other two, and Danny and Dani quickly follow the order, flying closer to him and behind his back.
"Cover your ears," Jazz tells the heroes around her, and puts her helmet back on, as Dan takes a deep breath and screams.
It hurts even those who follow Jazz's advice. Batman feels like his eardrums are about to be shattered for the lack of better word. But the vines like the sonic attack even less - most of them subdue and pull back inside the portal, and the rest is dissipating like they are being burned from the inside out.
And then, just like it began, the scream - the wail - stops. The silence feels deafening after the end of it, but slowly, the sounds return, and the JL watches Danny flying down to the center of the portal. He puts his hands on the surface of it, and for a long moment, nothing happens.
And then the Pit starts closing up.
Or, no, it is Danny who absorbs it, the green flowing up through his hands, his veins that start glowing the same green. His eyes become the same toxic color, with no whites and no irises, just glowing green all over, and his hair shimmers like stars.
A few minutes later, the portal is gone, like it never even existed, and Danny plants his feet on the ground and stretches, like one would do after a good rest.
"Oof, that was nice!" He turns to the other two, who are still up in the air, "Do you want some?"
Dan flips him off before going back to the ship, but Dani floats down to him and extends her hands out.
"Sure. I like getting it from you better than from the portal itself anyway. Gives it a sparkling taste, like Sprite," she chuckles. Danny takes her hands in his, and the green glow slowly makes its way through their joined palms, now flowing through the girl’s body.
"What are they?" Flash whispers, horrified, but Jazz hears it nonetheless and turns her head to him, taking her helmet off once again.
"That is not a very appropriate question," she chastises and smiles at their faces, "But it's okay, I get it. They are ghosts. Or ectoplasmic entities, or halfas, or highly liminal beings. Or, if you want a very simplified version, they are dead kids who are enjoying their afterlife a little too much."
"Dead?" Batman zeros on the word, snapping his eyes at the girl. She smiles, and for the first time, it doesn't look human. Her teeth are too sharp, her grin too wide, and her eyes are suddenly not just teal, but neon bright and glowing, with vertical irises.
"Most of us are dead in one way or another. And I do not mean it in a metaphorical sense."
-------------------
What I'm thinking is they have a whole system going on. Amity Park generally resides in the Realms, but from time to time, they decide they want to go on a vacation, as a whole town, and they pop into existence on one of the Earths. They don't really care for the universe or dimension they end up in, as long as it is more or less peaceful (as in, no active wars going on right where they pop up), has sunlight and nice weather.
The GIW is taking care of legal things - imagine US government reaction when a whole ass town just boom, starts existing in a place where nothing existed before? So GIW does all the paperwork and discussions. Also, they are doing their basic research on the dimension they end up in, for science purposes.
I'm thinking Vlad is still a mayor of Amity. And sometimes, when a particular dimension is rather annoying, he straight up possesses the authorities because he hates official talks and couldn't care less for morals if he tried for a week. The GIW scolds him, but don't really say no. It's not a good solution to the problem, but hey, it works.
Meanwhile, Fentons are doing ectoplasmic research. They scan the dimension for troubles, basically, looking for natural portals and ghosts causing ruckus. Jazz is almost always the one who does the talking to the heroes native to the dimension - she is the one who has the most patience and social skills. Jack is in charge of transportation and Maddie is the head of biological, ecto-biological and other species research. Tucker is the tech specialist, of course - he is the sole reason why Amity has wi-fi wherever they go. Val and her father are, kind of, protectors? Security? But for the whole town, yeah. They do have GIW agents as subordinates.
Dani is not always living in Amity, she travels the Realms most of the time, but she joins when something interesting happens. Dan is, like, on an eternal probation period, GIW and Fentons keep an eye on him, but he is one of the heavy hitters for when shit goes down.
Danny is living his best life, he is mainly the protector spirit of Amity, but he also gets to protect all the dimensions from ghosts! He helps anyone and everyone - one day he is working with Val on defenses for their main ship they use to travel inside dimensions, and the next day he is joining Maddie in her studies of new species found.
Oh, I forgot Sam. She is probably the one responsible for the magic stuff - mostly everyone else focuses on scientific aspects, but she is the one to research on occult things.

What is The Best Hoverboard for Kids
Allowing your kid to use a hoverboard may seem like another way to indulge in their fantasy of playing endless video games. You could assume that doing this is just another way for them to waste time, and that it might even be risky and result in accidents.
The good news is that manufacturers have developed best hoverboard for kids into secure toys with contemporary features over time. A hoverboard can also be good for your child's health.
An electric hoverboard is a self-balancing personal transporter that has two wheels attached to a pad where users put their feet. While turning the pads controls the direction, leaning forward or backward controls the speed.
Some hoverboards have a handle like an electric scooter, while others do not. In the end, it's a practical electric car that's great for commuting and leisure.
Why should kids ride hoverboards?
There are several benefits a kid can get after riding hoverboard. Some of them are mentioned here.
These days, it's rather typical to observe kids with poor posture. They always hunch over. This issue may result from constant use of mobile devices.
"Text neck" has been dubbed an epidemic in today's society. Spending too much time looking down at our electronics leads to an improperly bent backbone at the shoulder and out into the back and arms and self balancing scooter would rightly meet the needs of the kids to ride.
Children are particularly at risk because they use portable displays more frequently and for longer amounts of time, and because they can grow into them because their backbones are still elongating. The upside is that using a hoverboard requires strong core muscles to maintain balance.
Your entire body, not just your core, is involved in hoverboard riding. When you surf one of these boards, your lower body, particularly the calf, ankle, and other leg muscles, are actively engaged and exercised. Regular use of a hoverboard will help you develop muscle in these regions in addition to the core. It everything comes with full hoverboard instruction. Now these days, Kugoo g2 pro is high on popularity and people from different part of the world are selecting hoverboards for better performance.

Two thoughts about Warframe 1999 as it looms ever closer:
When Lotus Eaters came out, my reaction was "Oh, okay, that's actually a good excuse for making 1999 Drifter-only, if we must." That was back when we knew little more than the basic identities of the protoframes. As more and more content has been revealed, it's become more clear to me that - putting the dating sim stuff completely aside - the Operator's presence would actually just be too weird and off-beat for the bleak, tortured-young-adults, hope-in-the-face-of-endless-numbing-violence tone they're clearly going for. Like, it would just throw everything off when there's more nuanced pathos and connection to be had by making the Drifter the star.
That said... I am SO looking forward to the Hex meeting the Drifter and dealing with just how weird and overpowered they are. The Drifter will still fit in tonally because Duviri made them a fellow tortured young adult struggling to fight apathy and despair, so they can meaningfully connect with the Hex on those mature wavelengths. But also - "Hi, I'm from the unfathomably distant future! I've got access to over 50 weird-as-hell mechsuits with powers you've never imagined, and I've mastercrafted hundreds of weapons into an arsenal that regularly decimates entire armies. I've also got lots of pet robots and beasts to help out. Also a giant skeletal mech. And a hoverboard. And a horse. And I've got my own handblast powers if need be. Oh, you're trying to survive against a techno-plague and a genocidal regime? Sure, how many hundreds do you need dead today?" This has potential to be the most bizarre OP Mary/Gary Stu reverse-isekai ever and I'm 1,000% here for it. The best part is, it's exactly what the Hex kinda need to start digging their way out of their horrible situation and coming to terms with their altered humanity.

Scar x Reader
warnings: language, choking, ooc? WE DON’T KNOW HIM AND IT’S A CRIME I DID MY BEST
Tumblr media
“You saved me,” you whispered, your voice hoarse and your throat irritated with you for speaking after all that smoke you inhaled.
Scar just shook his head.
His brows were pulled together as they usually were, making him look angry— as he usually did. Ekko could make him grin, though, and some of the children. When they weren’t trying to “borrow” the hoverboards, that is.
Scar had been here longer, he was the lieutenant of the Firelights for fucks sake, but you both knew rules and risks. Every time your team went on a mission there was a chance someone might not come back, and those chances only got higher with every success. He knew the risks of turning around after the grenades came to life.
Ekko’s blend was his own creation, designed to destroy only shimmer. Even the ones you used on people were only for detaining, not killing. So when they turned and saw black smoke spewing from the broken window of the airship, it was an enormous sign something went awry. Awful as they may be, the Firelights didn’t celebrate the deaths of their enemies. On the way to the rendezvous point Ekko called out his headcount to no one, it seemed, because Scar wasn’t there to hear it like he should’ve been.
Even from miles away he heard you gagging and coughing. For a moment Scar thought he heard the rapid thump thump thump of your heartbeat. He later realized it was his own. The mask did fuck all to help him see with the thick, black cloud. He relied solely on your fading sounds to guide him. You were smart, crawling in your attempt to find the exit. In one fluid movement, he chucked a grenade at the opposite wall and snatched your body off the ground. Crystals erupted and made the wall easier to smash through. The newer and bigger hole allowed the smoke to escape in heaps, hopefully saving a few more lives.
Scar’s hands trembled at the memory. Angry, he was always so angry. Every time he looked at you and saw your busted eye, thought about how terrified and lost you must have felt, shit, he wouldn’t know what to do with himself. At least you looked better now than when he handed you off to the medics. He had visited every day since then and had no intention of stopping. He crossed his arms to stop the tremors.
You managed a weak, and rather pathetic, smile for your knight in dark armor. One minute he’s afraid you won’t make it and the next you’re sitting in front of him, bruised and chipper. It’s endearing. It’s twisting his heart in opposite directions.
“Thanks anyways.”
Truly, Scar would have done it for anyone here.
Still, he couldn’t deny that you were a special case. Your thanks meant more to him than you knew. Perhaps… this petrifying occasion could be the wake up call he didn’t know he needed.

☆ Twin Flame to a Firelight — Scar x GN Reader HCs ☆
Genre: Fluff || they/them pronouns for reader || No warnings needed
Tumblr media
──────.𖥔 ݁ ˖˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗.𖥔 ݁ ˖ ──────
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Looks out for you all the time, he's constantly making sure no one's bugging you. Maybe gets a little too caught up and snaps unfairly here and there, but you can reel him back in
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Tries to keep up appearances so not really the biggest fan of PDA, but if he thinks you need it he'll do small gestures to try and be comforting or remind you that he cares
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Probably one of the few things you consistently argue about is the fact that his mask REEKS but he insists he doesn't need to clean it that much
ᯓᡣ𐭩 If you ever mention wanting a piercing he's gonna offer to do it himself cause he did his own earrings and is completely insistent that he can do it best
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He gets hot wearing so many layers and so much leather but he's gonna refuse to admit it, you gotta convince him to dress lighter so he doesn't faint
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He was VERY anxious when you held his baby for the first time, kept hovering his hands under yours and fussing over and over about making sure you're both okay
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Chirean courting rituals really didn't make sense to you for a long time. Some of it was cute, like singing or rubbing his head against you. But the screeching and flying around you on the Firelight hoverboards was.. a little more baffling
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He's not above just straight up picking you up and carrying you somewhere safe if a situation feels off or if you're getting out of hand. He likes picking you up in general (if you're okay with it, of course), bridal carry especially
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He wants to compliment you almost all the time but he gets tongue-tied and can't think of the words he wants to say. Better at giving Acts of Service as a love language
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Genuinely speechless when you confessed to liking him cause he knows he comes off as standoffish and unapproachable, he got so nervous from being caught off guard he almost forgot to reply before quickly reassuring you the attraction is mutual

Back to You
Vi x Reader Fluff and a bit of Angst
Summary: Its been seven years without Vi and you both desperately want to reconnect. But why is it so hard to look her in the eyes? -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The tunnel stretched out endlessly, its walls echoing every step as you and Vi trudged through the damp underbelly of Piltover. The air was thick with the scent of mildew and rust, but you barely noticed.
Not when Vi was here.
“How did I let you talk me into this.” Vi mumbled as you hear the echo of your boots splashing against the wide tunnel you were wadding through.
“Because you missed your best friend? I mean c'mon we have seven years of  to make up for.”You smiled back at Vi making her roll her eyes.
“It has been that long huh?” Vi remarked as the air between you both grew silent.
Vi anxiously looked down at the hoverboard she was holding thinking of what she wanted to say. That she missed you? That she never should have left you in the first place.
She opened her mouth to speak just as you started seeing the spillover city lights at the end of the tunnel.
“Isn't Ekko going to notice two of his hoverboards are missing?” Vi brought up unable to voice her thoughts as she saw you were still tense? Reserved?
“Since when have you cared what Ekko thinks? I believe you used to say that you taught him everything he knows.” You grin trying to hide the tint of sadness in your tone. .
“Don’t you go bitching out on me now Pinky” you joked as Vi’s eyes lit up at the old nickname. .
When you reached the end of the tunnel, you stopped to take a deep breath, the cool night air brushing against your face and filling your lungs. The stale weight of the tunnel slipped away, but something else lingered—something you couldn’t quite name.
Vi stepped up beside you, her gaze fixed on the city sprawled out below. She leaned on the railing, silent, but you could feel her eyes flicker to you. The weight of her attention was almost too much to bear, and yet you couldn’t bring yourself to meet it.
For a fleeting moment, you wondered—had she thought about you during those seven years the way you thought about her? Did she replay the sound of your laugh, the look in your eyes, the way you used to make each other feel invincible?
The thought sent a sharp ache through your chest, so you shoved it down, burying it with the rest of the questions you weren’t ready to ask.
As Vi leaned over the edge, you let your eyes linger on her face, trying to read the expression she wore. Her sharp features were shadowed in the dim light, her brows furrowed ever so slightly. You couldn’t remember the last time you’d seen her look like this—uncertain, even hesitant. Vi had always been an act-first, think-later kind of girl, bold to the point of recklessness. Timidity didn’t suit her, and seeing it now left an unfamiliar pang in your chest.
Breaking the silence, you set your board down with a soft thud. “I won’t make you start from here,” you said quietly, the ghost of a smile tugging at your lips. “I’m not cruel enough to let you plummet into the river at two in the morning.”
Vi glanced at the board, then at your outstretched hand, before her lips curved into a crooked smirk. “My hero,” she said, her sarcasm undercut by the way her fingers hesitated before sliding into yours.
The warmth of her hand in yours was enough to make your pulse stutter, but you masked it with a playful scoff. “Keep it up, and I’ll make sure to nosedive,” you teased, kicking the board on as it hovered just above the ground.
Vi’s grip on your hand lingered a second longer than necessary before she stepped up onto the board behind you. The slight shift in weight brought her closer, and for a moment, the quiet hum of the board was the only thing filling the space between you.
You felt Vi’s hands settle on your hips, her grip firm but careful as she pulled herself close against your back. The warmth of her body pressed into yours, steady and unyielding, and you tried—really tried—to push the thought of how natural it felt to the farthest corner of your mind.
But the way her fingers lingered, just shy of possessive, and the soft breath you could feel at the nape of your neck made it impossible to ignore. Your heart betrayed you with a traitorous stutter, and you clenched your jaw, determined not to let her see how much she still unraveled you.
“I’ll consider going slow,” you warned with a grin, already feeling the mischievous thrill bubbling up as you kicked the board into gear and shot out of the tunnel.
“You asshole!“ Vi’s voice rang out, a mix of shock and something that sounded dangerously close to a laugh. You looped fast and sharp, the rush of wind whipping past as you turned straight for the open distance.
You felt it before you saw it—Vi tucking her face into the crook of your neck, her grip tightening like her life depended on it.
“The big bad Vi… scared of heights?” you teased, barely able to contain your laughter. “If I’d known it would shut you up this quick, I would’ve taken you for a ride ages ago.”
“Shut up,” she muttered, voice muffled but carrying enough heat to make you grin wider.
Her hold on you didn’t falter as you spotted a nearby ledge, angling the board to land. As you touched down, her arms lingered just a moment too long before she finally loosened her grip.
“Land, sweet land,” Vi groaned, throwing herself dramatically flat on the ground as you popped your board into your hand.
“C’mon, drama queen, it’s your turn.” You nudged her lightly with your foot, earning a muffled laugh as she lifted her head to look at you. For a split second, her eyes softened—something unspoken passing between you—before she quickly sat up, brushing herself off.
“Have some mercy on me,” she whined. “You’ve been riding these for years. You weren’t nervous when you first started?”
“I’m never scared of a challenge.” You smirked, enjoying the rare sight of Vi hesitating.
Her eyebrow quirked up, skeptical. “Need I remind you of the time you tried jumping from one rooftop to another?”
“Um, I was like ten,” you shot back, crossing your arms in mock indignation.
“And?” Vi’s smirk widened as she shook her head.
You shook your head smiling.
“All this talk and yet you can only delay for so long.” You teased
“Fine,” she sighed dramatically, picking up her board. “I’ll ride the stupid thing.”
“Atta girl,” you teased, your grin stretching as Vi placed her board down, muttering something under her breath. Moments like this, where your banter felt like old times, sent your chest fluttering before you could shove the feeling away.
“Tap the back twice to turn it on,” you instructed, setting your board down as Vi watched you intently. There was a trace of something in her gaze—something that made your pulse quicken as you met her eyes for just a second.
You couldn’t help but smile when she jolted a little as her board lifted. The frantic look in her eyes, the uncertainty—it was so different from the confident Vi you usually saw. Without thinking, you reached out and grabbed her hand, your fingers brushing against hers.
“The technique to this thing is not to overthink it,” you said, trying to hide the way your heartbeat had picked up. “Just… feel.” You shrugged, keeping your touch light.
Vi stared at you blankly, her lips curling slightly into that teasing smirk. “That’s all the advice you have, oh wise one?”
You nodded, not letting go of her hand. "Mhmm." There was a small challenge in your voice, but something more in the air between you both. You could feel her pulse quicken against your palm.
“Now let’s ride,” you said, a playful glint in your eyes. For a second, you swore you saw her cheeks flush—just a hint of color before she quickly looked away.
You kept it low to the ground, just five feet or so, not wanting to push her too hard. As the two of you slowly inched out over the ledge, your hand gripped hers tightly. The quiet tension between you was impossible to ignore now. Every small movement felt amplified, the distance between you shrinking with each second.
“I’m going to let go of your hand now, okay?” you said, your voice soft.
Vi’s grip tightened, her eyes wide with a quiet panic, before she glanced up at you. Your hand moved closer to her cheek, brushing softly as you spoke again, “Keep your eyes on me.”
You could’ve sworn she glanced at your lips—just for a second—but she quickly locked her gaze back on yours. Her breath hitched, and your chest tightened as the world seemed to narrow to just the two of you, suspended above the ground.
“Now lean forward,” you whispered, guiding her as you both moved in unison. You could feel her body responding to yours, and for a moment, it felt like you were connected more than just physically.
“That’s it. Keep going!” you encouraged, your voice steady, but your pulse racing as she started gaining confidence.
It only took half an hour before Vi was moving in rhythm with you, her movements a little more confident, a little smoother.
“See? You were always able to pick stuff up fast,” you teased, trying to hide the proud smile tugging at your lips.
“Maybe it’s because I had the best teacher,” Vi shot back with a grin, her eyes twinkling.
Before she could catch the way your eyes softened, you cut her off with a grin, eager to keep things light.
“I bet I can still win in a race,” you said, clearing your throat and pretending to look all serious.
“Oh yeah?” Vi smirked, already knowing she couldn’t resist a challenge. She leaned forward on her board, her confidence rising.
You glanced ahead, narrowing your eyes at a distant boulder.
“Let’s go to that boulder and back. First one back has to do laundry for all the kids next week,” you proposed, sticking your tongue out playfully as you kicked off the ground.
“You’re on,” Vi grinned, mimicking your move.
You gave a quick countdown, and just like that, you were off—speeding across the uneven terrain. The wind whipped around you, and you could hear Vi right behind you, matching your speed perfectly.
You reached the boulder first, slapping it triumphantly, but before you could even think about turning back, you saw a streak of pink flash past you in your peripheral vision. Your heart skipped as you saw Vi zoom ahead, her laugh loud and free.
“Wait, no way!” you shouted, watching her move effortlessly ahead. But as she pulled farther out in front, you heard the unmistakable sound of her hitting the ground with a thud.
You didn’t even hesitate. You hopped off your board, rushing toward her.
“Oh shit, shit, shit,” you muttered, panic creeping into your chest as you watched Vi sit up, groaning. Every nerve in your body screamed for her to be okay, to not be hurt in a way that could pull her away from you again like last time. You kneeled in front of her, your hands shaking as you brushed her hair back, your eyes scanning her face for any signs of serious injury.
“Are you okay? I shouldn’t have gone so fast, I’m so sorry, Vi,” you rushed out, the words tumbling out in a jumbled mess as your heart hammered in your chest, that familiar anxiety threatening to spill over. The thought of losing her—again—gripped you tighter than anything.
Vi seemed to notice the panic in your eyes, her voice laced with a quiet concern. “Hey, hey… I’m fine. Just a few scrapes,” she reassured you, but there was a subtle hitch in her tone.
You tried to swallow the fear clawing at your throat as you fumbled for your satchel. “I should have something in my bag,” you said, almost robotic as you pulled out some alcohol and bandages, your hands still unsteady.
Vi winced as you poured the alcohol over her scrapes, and you immediately regretted it. “Shit, sorry,” you muttered, trying to regain some composure, but it was hard. Too hard.
“You’re not used to this feeling by now?” you asked, your voice tight as you attempted to shift the focus from the growing unease inside you.
Vi's eyes softened as she looked down at you. “You used to patch me up all the time, huh?” she remarked, but there was something different in her voice—something raw, as though she wasn’t just talking about wounds and bandages anymore.
“No matter how much you yelled at me for getting in another dumb fight, you were always right there,” she said, her words trailing off.
You froze. You hadn’t heard her say it like that before. That unspoken history between you two hung in the air, thick and heavy, and your eyes met hers. The look in her eyes… it was the same as the one she had that night, when she decided to turn herself in. It sent a jolt through your body, the fear suddenly settling in your stomach all over again. You’d never been able to handle seeing that look on her, because it always meant something you couldn’t stop, something you couldn’t fix.
You cleared your throat, standing up to put some space between you, but before you could fully rise, Vi grabbed your arm, pulling you back.
“I’m… sorry,” she said quickly, her words rushed and raw, like she hadn’t meant to say them but couldn’t hold them back anymore.
“It was a dumb idea robbing that apartment. It was even more dumb not letting Vander handle it… I just…” She sighed, a deep, weary sound that felt like it came from somewhere far too old for her.
You felt your breath catch, your heart aching at the way she was looking at you now.
“You didn’t even consider how I felt,” you cut in, your voice shaking with emotion, and for a moment, Vi froze, clearly not expecting the sharpness in your tone.
“I told you not to go that night. You promised you wouldn’t.” Your voice cracked as you spoke, and the rawness of it seemed to hit Vi harder than anything else you could’ve said. Your chest tightened, and it was hard to keep the tears at bay. “I thought you’d come back... I thought we'd have more time...”
Vi's face softened with guilt, but you couldn’t stop now.
“That’s what I couldn’t stand about you, Violet!” The words spilled out before you could hold them back, each one heavier than the last. “You always thought you knew what was best. You’d throw yourself into danger to protect me, but you never asked me how I felt. You never thought for a second that I wanted to protect you.”
Vi looked taken aback, the words landing harder than you expected. Her eyes softened, and she stepped closer, but you took a step back, shaking your head.
“Forget it,” you muttered, your voice breaking as you turned, your feet carrying you away before you could stop them. But then, before you could take another step, Vi grabbed your arm, gently spinning you back toward her.
Her touch was tender, but you couldn’t meet her eyes right away. You were still too angry, still too hurt.
Vi’s voice was soft, but there was a vulnerability to it that made your heart ache. “I never meant to hurt you,” she said quietly. “I thought I could keep everyone safe, but... I see now I wasn’t thinking about you. About how you felt. I’m sorry, I should’ve listened. I should’ve come back. I’m so sorry.”
You opened your mouth to speak, to say something sharp, but you couldn’t. The truth was, you wanted to hear her say that more than anything, but it still wasn’t enough. Not yet. You crossed your arms tightly, still feeling the weight of everything between you, but Vi stepped closer, her hand reaching out for yours.
“I’m sorry for breaking that promise,” she said, her voice soft but earnest. “And I’m sorry for not seeing how much I was hurting you.”
You stared at her, your emotions swirling, not knowing if you were ready to forgive her just yet. But there was something in her eyes now—a depth, a sadness, and maybe... maybe even hope.
“I just... I never wanted to lose you again,” you whispered, your voice shaking as you looked away. The words were more vulnerable than you meant, and they hung between you, raw and exposed.
Vi reached for you again, her hands warm against your skin as she cupped your face gently. “You won’t lose me. I’m not going anywhere,” she said, her voice steady and sure now. “I’m not leaving you again. I promise.”
Your breath caught in your throat, and before you could respond, Vi leaned in, her lips brushing against yours, soft and hesitant at first. It wasn’t the rush of a kiss born from desperation, but a gentle, cautious touch, like she was giving you the space to decide if you could meet her halfway.
You were surprised—so much so that you barely reacted at first, still lost in the weight of her apology. But then you felt the heat of her, the tenderness in the kiss, and you couldn’t help but pull her closer, your hands sliding to her waist as you closed the distance between you. There was no hesitation now—only the feeling of her lips against yours, warm and familiar, like no time had passed at all.
When you pulled away, both of you breathless, your foreheads rested against each other as you caught your breath. There was an unspoken understanding between you, a quiet promise that neither of you had given up on the other.
“You always act before you think, Vi,” you murmured with a soft, teasing smile, your fingers grazing her cheek. “You still haven’t figured out how to slow down.”
Vi gave a low laugh, her thumb brushing against your hip. “I didn’t need to think about this,” she said, her eyes warm with affection. “I’ve been thinking about this for seven years.”
Your heart skipped a beat, and you leaned into her, resting your head against her chest. “Don’t think just because you kissed me that I’ve forgiven you,” you whispered, the corners of your mouth tugging up despite yourself.
Vi chuckled, her hand stroking the back of your neck gently. "I don’t expect you to forgive me right away... but I’ll spend every day proving I’m here to stay.".”
You sighed, a quiet smile forming as you closed your eyes, letting the feeling of her in your arms wash over you. It wasn’t forgiveness yet, but it was something. Maybe this was the start of something new. Something worth fighting for.
