TAKING CARE OF BLACK HAIR
This post is dedicated to all of my black beauties, who may be struggling in haircare. No way am I an expert, but these are tips that worked for me.
DAILY
Spray water on your hair + drink a lot of water to keep it hydrated. It helps with detangling and promotes softer hair.
Use a daily hair moisturizer. This can be hair food, oil, or a leave-in conditioner, but something that can moisturise your hair every day.
Sleep on a silk bonnet or a silk pillow to prevent tangles and knots in your hair.
Apply styling products in layers. Too many products can cause grease or ‘crunchy’ hair.
WASH DAY
Wash your hair once a week. You want to avoid product buildup, as that is drying your hair. If possible, apply thick oils or gels every other day instead of every day (most spray or thinner oils/gels are fine for daily use).
Detangle before you wash your hair. I like to completely wet my hair before detangling, so it’s much easier and avoids breakage. Or, you can buy a detangling spray that aids you. Try to use your fingers instead of a comb, as it is much gentler.
When shampooing, avoid foaming shampoos as they can dry out your hair. Look for shampoos that don’t have any harsh chemicals as well.
Deep condition your hair instead of just rinsing it. You can buy one or you can make your own. What I do is, I separate my hair into sections and then put conditioner onto each one. Then I put on a shower cap and let it stay for 15-30 minutes. Extensive deep conditioning can weaken your hair.
Use an old shirt or a microfiber towel to squeeze excess moisture and water from your hair. Using a towel can cause frizziness and breakage + avoid drying your hair using a blow dryer.
PROTECTIVE HAIRSTYLES
Try not to leave in protective hairstyles for too long. A month is the best time frame, but 3 months is the absolute maximum!
When taking out protective hairstyles, let your hair breathe. A minimum of two weeks of natural hair is ideal. This allows you to take care of your strands as well.
During protective hairstyles, remember to shampoo weekly to avoid dandruff buildup + use moistures!
If needed after a hairstyle, trim your hair. Some ends cannot be saved.

a short trans kyle fic for @kylematthewbroflovski! @spinthetags
word count: 806
Wendy drapes a towel over Kyle’s shoulders. There are hand towels on both sides of the bathroom counter, one with scissors and an electric razor, the other with a standard hairbrush and comb and a spray bottle. Looking at it spread out feels sort of medical to Kyle. Technical. Sterile. Nervousness builds. He wipes his palms on his jeans. “Should we put a towel on the floor?”
Wendy whips around. “No. We’ll just vacuum. My mom has the Dyson.” She was in the midst of her cleanfreak phase, so any stray hair was a threat. Despite that, she was extremely supportive of this decision.
Supportive and ambitious, it turned out. The day after they hatched the plan, Bebe asked Kyle if he was comfortable with her cutting his hair. “Wendy just doesn’t know anything about curly hair. Don’t you want the big chop to be good?” She was very convincing. Her hair was always in beautiful ringlets. Kyle struggled to tuck as much of his hair into his hat as possible. He did want this haircut to be good.
Wendy safety pins the two ends of the towel together. She looks at Kyle and his massive halo of red hair. A part of her is sad to see it go. It will never be this long again. Wow. “Sit up straight.”
Bebe and Wendy squeal when they see each other, and Bebe squeals when she sees Kyle’s hair. She is not hesitant to stick her hands right in. “I’ve always wanted to see it down!” He supposes it’s objectively nice hair. His mom was always after him to do something with it. He didn’t like to think about it as a part of him. Soon, it wouldn’t be.
Bebe eyes the equipment Wendy laid out. She goes into her own bag that Wendy is outraged she even brought and comes out with a wide toothed comb and a special brush. Bebe is outraged to find out Kyle isn’t familiar with any of it. “Maybe it’s best that you’re getting rid of it,” she muses. He couldn’t agree more.
It starts easily enough. Bebe gathers all his hair in one bushy ponytail and uses the razor to cut through it all. Kyle keeps his eyes shut tight. When it’s over, she holds the ponytail out. He can’t believe it came from him. It doesn’t look like his hair. Before he can get emotional about it, Wendy and Bebe start cheering. They’re shaking his shoulders and giggling. He laughs, too. He feels lighter.
It takes most of the afternoon. Bebe is dedicated to her craft. She blames it on Kyle’s hair. “So much detangling. Do you even condition?” Fine, it was both of their faults. It could have taken all night and he would have been happy it happened at all.
Assuringly, Bebe says several times, “I’m so good at this.” She wants to be a beautician for a living. Kyle thinks it must be nice to see that far into the future. He’s still trying to figure out who he is. At the final reveal, he thinks if she makes people feel this good, she should pursue it.
“So? What do you think?”
Kyle touches the perfect curl front and center. Then the full top. Then the sides. His hair has never been this short. He has never felt more like himself. “I love it. Thank you, Bebe.”
Bebe wraps her arms around his shoulders tightly. They don’t know each other that well, but it feels full of love. “I’m so happy. You look so good.”
“Very handsome,” Wendy adds. She hugs him, too, once he’s free of hair clippings.
“Nice Jewish boy,” Bebe sings from the bathroom. She was left with the mess. “Very handsome Jewish boy, going to impress Stan on Monday.”
Kyle rubs his neck sheepishly. The lack of hair is thrilling. “I don’t know, I-”
“Have my blessing,” Wendy interrupts. “You guys are better friends than we ever were, and are going to make a hell of a better couple.”
It’s not the first time she’s said that. Kyle can’t help feeling bad. He was friends with Wendy first, then made best friends with her boyfriend, and now he had a crush on him. It was not good friend behavior.
“It’s all girl code, anyway. You’re free.”
Then again, Bebe had her own share of bad friend behavior, and there were no hard feelings. Wendy is going after Tolkein, anyway.
“Free” is exactly how Kyle feels. He goes home feeling the best he ever has. He can’t take his hands off of it. He doesn’t even care what his mom is going to say. She had consented to the haircut. It didn’t matter if it’s what she had in mind or not, it’s what Kyle wanted. Besides, she couldn’t make it grow back.

Silk Press Tips for Natural Hair
My head is home to a mixture of type 3C and type 4A hair. The hair stands are thick and my overall hair density is high. It sucks in any moisture around it like a dementor’s kiss stealing a soul.
Therefore, it’s been quite a journey trying to find the correct products and technique to create a truly long lasting silk press. This method has protected my hair during a blizzard in Quebec and the humid heat of the Deep South. Not a frizz in sight!
The silk press typically lasts for weeks. It’s rare that I have to do a retouch.
Products Used:
CHI Silk Infusion
Color Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray Anti-Frizz Treatment
A Boar Bristle Brush
A Rat Tail Comb
Any Hair Dryer
Method:
This is always performed in freshly washed hair. It’s not mandatory, but there’s zero build up on clean hair which will give you the best results.
After washing, I moisturize my hair and separate it into sections for manageability during the blow drying process
Next, I spray my hair with Color Wow Dreamcoat. This is activated by heat, therefore I blow dry my hair after applying it.
Once my hair is blown out. I apply the CHI Silk infusion. A little goes a long way. I normally roll my eyes at the dime size recommendations on hair product bottles but in this case it’s accurate. I used approx a dime sized amount, or less, for each section of my hair.
Last, I used the chase method to straighten my hair.
The chase method consists of running a hair instrument, typically a fine tooth comb or brush, through your hair quickly followed by a flat iron.
The flat iron is chasing the comb/brush. It’s right on its tail, hence the chase in chase method.
I usually use a rat tail comb, unless I want my hair to be more voluminous. If I desire more volume, I use the chase method with a boar brush instead. This gives more of a smooth blowout effect rather than a silk press. Nonetheless, it’s still a beautiful style.
It is rare that more than two passes are done. If you have to do multiple passes (3+) with your flat iron, you need to:
Section your hair into smaller sections
Make sure the comb/brush is actually smoothing your hair out
Make certain that your hair is properly detangled
Check to see if you applied enough heat protectant.
Et voilà!
The Silk Press Of Your Dreams

Wavy Curls
Embrace Your Natural Beauty: A Comprehensive Guide to Wavy Curls
Introduction
Wavy curls are a beautiful and unique hair type that combines the best of both worlds: the volume of curls and the smoothness of straight hair. Embracing your natural wavy curls can enhance your overall appearance and boost your confidence. This article will delve into everything you need to know about wavy curls, including their characteristics, care tips, styling techniques, and product recommendations.
Understanding Wavy Curls
Wavy curls, often categorized as Type 2 hair, fall between straight and curly hair. They are characterized by their loose, S-shaped waves that can vary in texture and density. Wavy hair is versatile and can be easily styled in various ways, making it a popular choice for many.
Types of Wavy Curls
Loose Waves - This type features fine, thin waves that are easy to manage and style. They have a slight bend and a soft texture.
Defined Waves - These waves are more defined and have a medium texture. They tend to form a more prominent S-shape and may have some frizz.
Thick Waves - These are the most defined and thickest among the wavy hair types. They have a strong S-shape and can be prone to frizz and coarseness.
Caring for Wavy Curls
Gentle Cleansing: Use a sulfate-free shampoo to avoid stripping natural oils from your hair. This helps maintain moisture and reduces frizz.
Conditioning: Apply a hydrating conditioner to keep your waves soft and manageable. Focus on the mid-lengths and ends of your hair.
Detangling: Use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers to detangle your hair while it’s wet. Start from the ends and work your way up to minimize breakage.
Hydration: Keep your hair hydrated with leave-in conditioners or curl-enhancing creams. These products help define your waves and reduce frizz.
Avoid Heat: Minimize the use of heat styling tools. If necessary, use a heat protectant spray and opt for lower heat settings.
Styling Tips for Wavy Curls
Air Drying: Allow your hair to air dry naturally to maintain its natural wave pattern. Scrunch your hair gently with a microfiber towel to remove excess water.
Plopping: Use a t-shirt or microfiber towel to wrap your hair after washing. This technique helps enhance your waves and reduce frizz.
Diffusing: If you prefer using a blow dryer, attach a diffuser to enhance your waves without causing frizz. Use the lowest heat setting and scrunch your hair while drying.
Twisting and Braiding: Twist or braid your damp hair before bed to create defined waves.
Curl-Enhancing Products: Apply curl-enhancing mousses, gels, or creams to damp hair to define and hold your waves. Look for lightweight formulas that won’t weigh down your hair.
Product Recommendations for Wavy Curls are
Shampoo, Conditioner, Leave-In Conditioner, Curl Cream & Gel.
Conclusion
Embracing and caring for your wavy curls can enhance your natural beauty and give you a distinctive, stylish look. By understanding the characteristics of wavy hair and following proper care and styling techniques, you can achieve healthy, defined waves that turn heads. Remember, the key to beautiful wavy curls is maintaining moisture, reducing frizz, and using the right products. Celebrate your unique hair type and enjoy the versatility and charm of your wavy curls!

DOLL RESTORATION UPDATES hi
Got these lovely ladies at the thrift store this winter
I had the house to myself this weekend which meant I had full access to the kitchen sink to clean them, and I finally got to start working on their hair today!
They were all in various states, as you can see. The Barbie was very easy of course, just had to get some tangles out and it was pretty easy just with a spray bottle of water and my best friend and the best thing to come out of the UK since The Spice Girls, the Tangle Teezer! Elsa over there was pretty hard, her ends were very damaged and I had to give her a big trim. Otherwise I didn’t have to cut the hair of the other two pictured. Just did a very standard spritz with water, tangle teezer brush, wide tooth comb, water with a little conditioner (mostly so they smell nice but it does help the softness and detangling), fine tooth comb, then tooth brush to get it to lay smooth on their heads. Pretty easy! Haven’t done any heat treatments yet, that’s for another day. Here’s how they looked after!
THEN I had a huge job ahead of me here with this rainbow high doll
But she turned out so stunning
Did take a LOT more brushing, as RH dolls just have a ton of hair, and hers was super tangled, but I didn’t have the problems you get with poly hair, like the broken ends. Her hair is very soft and smooth and she looks great. Took a lot of combing and sectioning but I got it done! Did an extra step with her, which was using a pet slicker brush. The tangle teezer is great, but the bristles are flexible and if there’s too much hair they sometimes don’t get all of it, so the slicker brush works similarly but with stiff bristles. Best to use after the tangles are out so you don’t rip out the hair!
I put some clothes on all of them but I don’t have pics yet, will add.

Must-have Grooming Tools for Professional Barbers
Hair styling, hair care, and beard care have become very popular with the new-age male. Proper grooming is not restricted only to the ladies. Hair care and beard care have become a necessity for the fashion-conscious man of today. New haircuts and beard-trimming styles are a hit with men of all ages. Looking at the need for professional services, salons that offer good grooming services and the best haircuts have come up in a big way. It goes without saying that the market for must-have grooming tools is extending its reach to barbers who are professionally involved. The grooming equipment market now also caters to those who give preference to personal grooming and trimming, besides their routine visits to the salon.
Clippers, trimmers, shears, and more barber equipment are widely available today. They are designed and made with individual hair and beard types in mind. Some products are best suited to handle fine, smooth hair. Other equipment is more heavy-duty and can be used for unmanageable, rough hair.
Let’s take a look at the various professional grooming tools and their types and uses.
Scissors and shears
Scissors and shears are the tools most handled by a barber. They are ideal for giving haircuts for both long and short hair. Shears are also used to layer and thin out hair. Standard shears come equipped with sharp blades that can cut hair and give shape and structure to unruly hair.
Thinning shears, on the other hand, are used to give layers and thin out excess hair. They are also useful, especially when clearing split ends. The teeth on one blade are designed to do this effectively without affecting the length of the hair.
Trimmers and Clippers
Following close behind shears, the other necessary barber tools are trimmers and clippers. New hairstyles that feature sharp angles, smooth edges, and patterns require the use of the above. Professional grooming clippers, along with trimmers, are designed exclusively to do all of the detailing and texturing. They come in corded and cordless varieties. They are specially used to give tiny intricate details to the haircut and give a smooth and precise result to any hairstyle.
Combs and Brushes
Brushes and combs are vital to holding hair in place while using shears. They help to detangle hair and aid in blow drying and blending hair during the cutting process. There are different brushes and combs available to help you with the hairstyling process.
Razors and shavers that are designed to give clean-cut shaves are also part of the barber supply equipment. Unlike earlier, razors now come with safety features that allow the barber to hold the razor at easy angles. This helps to avoid accidental nicks or cuts. The blades are replaceable and are easy on the pocket.
Shavers are usually used to trim and shave hair from the neckline and behind the ear. Single foil shavers are tools that are a favorite with professional barbers.
Styling Products
Besides grooming tools, salons also stock up on styling products. Hair sprays to help hold the finished hairstyle in place and enhance the shine on the hair are popular.
Gels are used for spiky-styled haircuts. They hold the finished style in place. Some gels hold on to the shape and style while giving it a flexible look.
Beard balms, oils, and moisturizing creams are formulated with essential oils and vitamins. They help to soften the facial hair and decrease skin irritation.
These products are applied to the hair and beard to give a sleek, well-set finish to the hair. These products come with specific properties to suit individual hair types.
Hygiene Products
Stocking up on UV sterilizers and disinfectants to clean tools and one-time-use neck straps are equally important. Aprons and towels for the assistants and the client’s use are also products that can’t be missed out.
With the market for barber products booming, it has become easy to go online and check out a large range of barber shop supplies. At Certified Clippers, you can browse through a complete inventory of different brands. You can check out the specific product details, their pricing, and how they work, and you can opt for the product that is suitable for varied clientele or personal use.

Best Lice Treatment for Kids: Safe and Effective Methods
Dealing with head lice in children can be a stressful experience for parents, but with the right approach, it’s manageable. Choosing the best lice treatment for kids requires a balance between safety and effectiveness. Here’s a guide to safe and effective lice removal methods that parents can confidently use to eliminate lice without causing harm to their child’s scalp or overall health.
Over-the-Counter Lice Shampoos and Lotions
Over-the-counter (OTC) lice treatments, such as shampoos and lotions containing permethrin or pyrethrin, are commonly recommended. These products target both lice and their eggs (nits) and are generally safe for children over the age of two. However, following the instructions carefully is crucial to avoid any potential side effects.
Tip: Always conduct a patch test before applying these products thoroughly to ensure your child’s skin doesn’t react negatively.
Prescription Lice Treatments
If OTC options fail, doctors may prescribe more potent lice treatments. Prescription treatments such as malathion (Ovide) and ivermectin (Sklice) can be effective for resistant lice strains. These medications are typically safe for children over the age of six, but again, parents should strictly follow the prescribed usage to prevent any adverse effects.
Natural Lice Remedies
Many parents prefer using natural lice remedies to avoid exposure to chemicals. Natural options include:
Tea Tree Oil: Known for its antiseptic properties, tea tree oil can be mixed with water and sprayed onto the scalp to suffocate lice.
Olive Oil or Coconut Oil: These oils help to smother the lice and loosen their grip on hair strands, making combing easier.
Vinegar: Vinegar is believed to help dissolve the glue that holds nits to the hair shaft, making removal easier.
Caution: Even with natural remedies, it’s essential to perform a patch test and avoid direct contact with the eyes.
Wet Combing
Wet combing is a chemical-free method that involves saturating the hair with conditioner or water and using a fine-toothed lice comb to remove lice and nits. This method is safe for children of all ages and, when done meticulously, can be very effective. Wet combing should be repeated every few days for at least two weeks to ensure all lice and nits are removed.
Pro Tip: Ensure the hair is detangled before combing, and comb in small sections to catch every louse or nit.
Lice Removal Services
Professional lice removal services have become increasingly popular for parents looking for a stress-free option. These services use manual combing techniques, sometimes combined with heat treatments, to remove lice and nits effectively without chemicals. While this option can be more expensive, it provides expert assistance and a thorough approach to lice treatment.
Prevention After Treatment
Once the lice are eliminated, preventing reinfestation is critical. Some tips for prevention include:
Wash all bedding, clothing, and personal items in hot water.
Vacuum furniture and car seats to remove stray lice.
Teach children to avoid sharing hats, brushes, or hair accessories.
Parents may also consider using lice-repellent sprays or oils that contain tea tree oil, lavender, or eucalyptus to help deter lice from returning.
Conclusion
The best lice treatment for kids combines safety with efficacy. Over-the-counter treatments and prescription medications can be effective, but natural remedies and manual removal techniques like wet combing offer chemical-free options. For parents seeking a hands-off approach, professional lice removal services are a reliable alternative. Regardless of the method chosen, thoroughness and consistency in treatment are essential to ensure complete removal of lice and nits. Taking preventive steps afterwards will help keep those pesky lice at bay, ensuring your child remains lice-free and comfortable.

Revitalize Your Locks: Essential Hydration Strategies for Dry Hair
In the quest for luscious, healthy locks, maintaining adequate moisture levels is paramount. Dry hair doesn't just lack luster and softness; it's also more prone to damage and breakage. Fortunately, infusing your hair with the moisture it craves doesn't have to be a daunting task. This guide lays out effective strategies to hydrate your hair, ensuring it remains strong, shiny, and supple.
Identify Your Hair's Hydration Needs
Understanding the specific needs of your hair type is the first step toward optimal hydration. Different hair textures require unique care routines to maintain their moisture balance. Fine hair, for example, might need lightweight conditioning treatments to prevent it from being weighed down, while coarser hair types could benefit from richer, more intensive hydrating products.
Choose the Right Moisturizing Products
Not all hair care products are created equal. For dry hair, it's crucial to select products formulated to deeply nourish and replenish moisture levels. Look for shampoos, conditioners, and hair masks enriched with hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and natural oils like argan or coconut oil. These ingredients help to lock in moisture, keeping your hair smoother.
Incorporate Regular Deep Conditioning Treatments
Deep conditioning treatments are a game-changer for dry hair. Incorporating these treatments into your hair care routine at least once a week can significantly improve your hair's moisture content, elasticity, and overall health. Choose a deep conditioner that aligns with your hair type and concerns, and allow it to penetrate your strands for the recommended time to achieve the best results.
Minimize Heat Styling Damage
Excessive use of heat styling tools is a common culprit behind dry, damaged hair. To preserve your hair's moisture, minimize the frequency of heat styling and always use a heat protectant spray before applying heat. Additionally, consider air-drying your hair or using cooler settings on your styling tools to reduce heat damage.
Embrace Protective Hairstyles
Protective hairstyles not only minimize mechanical damage from brushing and styling but also help to retain moisture. Styles like braids, buns, and twists can prevent your hair from drying out, especially in harsh weather conditions or while sleeping. Pairing protective styles with silk or satin hair accessories can further reduce moisture loss and friction damage.
Stay Hydrated and Eat a Balanced Diet
Hydration starts from within. Drinking plenty of water and consuming a diet rich in vitamins and minerals can significantly impact the health and hydration levels of your hair. Foods high in omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins A, C, and E promote scalp health and support the production of sebum, your hair's natural conditioner.
Avoid Overwashing
Washing your hair too frequently can strip it of its natural oils, leading to increased dryness. To maintain your hair's natural moisture balance, limit shampooing to two or three times a week, depending on your hair type and lifestyle. On days you don't shampoo, consider rinsing your hair with water or using a dry shampoo to refresh your roots.
Lock in Moisture with a Leave-in Conditioner
For an extra layer of hydration, apply a leave-in conditioner to damp hair after showering. Leave-in conditioners help to seal in moisture, detangle knots, and provide a protective barrier against environmental stressors. Choose a formula that suits your hair type and texture for seamless integration into your daily routine.
Trim Regularly to Prevent Split Ends
Regular trims are essential to maintain healthy, hydrated ends. Split ends can travel up the hair shaft if left unattended, causing further damage and dryness. By trimming your hair every 6-8 weeks, you can prevent split ends and keep your hair looking and feeling its best.
Listen to Your Hair
Lastly, paying attention to your hair's response to different products and routines is crucial. What works for one person may not work for another, so it's important to listen to your hair and adjust your hydration strategy accordingly. With patience and care, achieving and maintaining hydrated, vibrant hair is within reach.
By adopting these hydration strategies, you can transform your dry hair into a radiant, healthy mane. Remember, consistency is key; with regular care and attention, your hair will thrive, reflecting your dedication to its well-being.

Hair types vary – from straight strands that cascade effortlessly to tight coils that spring with every step. It's a quest for the elixir that will unlock the true potential of one's locks. This article explores the essential aspects of hair care, from deep conditioning to scalp nourishment, to help you achieve luscious locks. Key Takeaways Understanding the diversity of hair types is crucial in finding the right shampoo for your specific needs. Deep conditioning is a vital step in any hair care routine to revitalize and nourish your locks. A nourished and detoxified scalp is the foundation for healthy and radiant hair. Hair masks have transformative power in rejuvenating and hydrating your hair. Finding the perfect elixir that matches your hair type is the key to unlocking the true potential of your locks. Exploring the Diversity of Hair Types Understanding Straight Strands As I delve into the world of hair care, I've come to realize that straight hair doesn't have the movement or bounce of its wavy or curly counterparts. It lies flat and can range from fine to coarse, each with its unique challenges. Straight strands often struggle with oiliness, as the lack of curls allows natural oils to travel swiftly down the hair shaft, leading to a greasier appearance. To maintain the health and aesthetics of straight hair, I've learned that a few key practices are essential: Gently detangle your hair, starting from the tips and working your way up to the roots, especially when wet and conditioned. Reduce heat styling to prevent damage; use heat protectant sprays and low temperatures when necessary. Embrace protective hairstyles like braids or buns to shield hair from environmental stressors. Trim regularly to keep split ends at bay and prevent them from traveling up the hair shaft. Embracing these habits has not only improved the condition of my straight locks but also enhanced their natural sheen and manageability. It's a testament to the fact that even the simplest hair type requires its own specialized care.
