Day 2: Hand Kiss

Danny glared at Vlad like he was trying to see through his skin. He'd been acting weird all day. First, Vlad took the day off work, which is fine, he's an adult and everyone needs time off. Then, he offered to take Danny to the park, the one with a playground, a skate park, and an open field. And then Vlad just so happened to have brought a picnic basket that had Danny's favorite sandwich (a BLT without the T) and Danny's favorite cookies. Then he just decided to "swing by" the arcade, that somehow didn't have any people in it, and the two of them got to play whatever they wanted for as long as they wanted. And now, Vlad was leading them towards the Pier Carnival, and Danny had a feeling he was going to suggest they "swing by" that too.

"What's wrong, Danny? Something not to your liking?" Vlad asked and seemed actually worried.

"No, it's literally perfect." Danny said, glaring at him more.

"Then why the death stare?"

"Well, the last time you were this nice to me, my emotions were tied to the weather."

"So what? I can't take you on a nice date without it being suspect." He didn't actually sound convincing.

"I mean, yeah," Danny admitted. "This feels like one of your old schemes."

Vlad made a disgruntled sound then quickened his pace. "I thought something that felt more go with the flow would suit you better, but if not, then come on. We're going to go have a good time and things will continue to be perfect."

Vlad did lead them to the carnival and they did have a good time. Well, Danny did. His main problem with the supposed perfect date was... well, they didn't do anything Vlad liked. Vlad dates were fancy dinners and museums. He'd spend hours dressing Danny up like a doll to make sure his outfit was perfect, and then they'd go somewhere that would kick you out for wearing shorts or burping too loud. The best date Danny can remember them going on was right in the middle - a fancy fundraiser dinner at the observatory. Vlad got to talk snob with the other rich guests and Danny got to see the new museum wing before the rest of the public. Sure, it wasn't the fanciest of dinners and Danny had to wear an uncomfy suit, but they both got to have their fun and spend time with each other.

Danny was still trying to figure out what Vlad's game was, when he realized they were alone. It was past closing time, but not past the time a security person would have asked them to leave. Vlad took Danny out onto the pier, where they could see the sun setting in brilliant color.

"Perfect." Vlad hummed in satisfaction and quickly took Danny's hands in his. "Danny, my beloved little badger. I have loved you from the moment we met, and through every fight we had, and I will continue to love you till the end of time. So I ask..." He pulled a small box out of his jacket and fell to one knee. "Will you marry me?"

Danny blinked at him, his brain still trying to process what Vlad just said. He just, proposed? After an entire day of doing stuff Danny liked, and on a pier at sunset. Danny was taking too long to answer, he could feel it. The ring box in Vlad's hands started to shake and Danny knows Vlad doesn't do well on his knees.

He needed to say something. He needed to say anything. He needed to tell Vlad how much he appreciated their date and how much effort Vlad put into their relationship. "Yeah, sure."

No! Come on! "No, wait, sorry. I mean yes."

Vlad sighed in relief and stood back up, taking the ring from its box and putting it on Danny's hand. Vlad kissed over it gently, then down Danny's hand and threatened to kiss all the way up his arm. But Danny was able to divert his attention, cupping Vlad's cheek and pulling him into a proper kiss. And you know what? Fuck it! He pulled Vlad into a playful dip kiss, like they were ballroom dancing.

Eventually, they stopped kissing. Danny gave Vlad a scheming look. "Alright, when's your next day off?"

"We can't get married that quickly, little badger. Weddings take-"

"Not for the wedding!" Danny interrupted. "For my proposal!"

"You don't need to-"

"Mines going to be way better than yours."

"It's not a competition."

"Sounds like you're scared you'll lose." Danny joined when Vlad laughed, but it wasn't a joke. His proposal was going to be way better than Vlad's!

“BUECKERS!” Micah yells my name as I approach the benches near the basketball court. 

I’m 15 minutes late but everyone should be used to that by now. By now, being late is my trademark so none of my friends look bothered. In fact, almost everyone is smiling as they dap me up and say hello. 

Everyone except the only person in the group that I hadn’t seen before. Some girl with bug eyes. 

Okay, so they aren’t big eyes. But they are big, brown eyes that look at me like she wants nothing more than my head on the chopping block. 

“Yo, who’s this?” I nod my head towards the girl who’s shooting me the literal death glare. 

“This is Azzi.” Micah slings an arm around Azzi's shoulder and she shrugs him off with a huff. “She’s my cousin. She just moved here.”

“Can she hoop?” I ask. 

“She’s standing right here and she would appreciate it if you didn’t speak about her like she wasn’t.” Azzi snatches the ball from my hands and begins walking to the court. “And I thought the movie was White Men Can’t Jump?”

I have no choice but to laugh at her insinuation. Meeting her on the court, I snatch my ball back. “It’s a good thing I’m a woman then, huh?” I say.

“Oh? You got game white girl?”

“Like you’ve never seen before.” 

“Show me then.”

“Check.” 

And the game began.

“PAIGE!” Azzi’s chasing after me. “Will you just wait for a a fucking second?”

Every fiber of my being is telling me to keep walking and never stop, but we’re in a hotel for state and she’s screaming my name. If someone complains, coach is gonna kill me. 

I stop walking and shut my eyes, taking a deep breath. 

Relax, Bueckers.

I pivot on my foot and stare at the girl in front of me.

If I wasn’t such a pussy, I’d tell her how beautiful she is. With her frizzy french braids and her tie-dye t-shirt and her St. Patricks Day socks. But complimenting her would only make this whole situation even more awkward, and if it gets any more awkward I might off myself. 

So, instead of telling Azzi everything I’ve wanted to tell her since I’d met her, I speed walk back to our room grabbing her arm in the process. 

I’ve never been one for serious conversations and Azzi and I’s friendship isn’t necessarily one where we have too many of them. But tonight, I thought I saw something. 

Something in her eyes said, ‘it isn’t just you.’ 

God, I couldn’t have been any more wrong.

Shutting the door, I turn to her and make it a point to never take my eyes off the lamp behind her. 

“I’m sorry.”

She furrows her eyebrows and cocks her head a little to the side. “You’re sorry?” she sounds confused, which is confusing me. 

If she doesn’t want an apology then what the fuck does she want?

“Yes?”

“For what?”

For kissing you. For reading this whole thing wrong. For ruining our friendship and possibly losing us State because there’s no fucking way I’m gonna be able to focus tomorrow.

“For everything.”

All of a sudden, she’s not across the room for me anymore. She’s right in front of me, smacking me hard on the back of my head.

“OW!” I duck my head and slid under her raised arm. “What the fuck, Azzi?”

“You’re so stupid!” She shouts.

“How the fuck am I stupid for apologizing to you?”

We’re both yelling at each other, which to anyone else, may seem like a bad thing. But Azzi and I get our best communication done during our screaming matches. 

Don’t ask me why… It just is what it is.

“Because I don’t want a fucking apology, Paige!”

“Well, the fuck do you want then?”

“YOU!”

Record. Scratch.

“What?” I’m not yelling anymore. I’m actually speaking so low that I almost don’t hear myself. “What did you say?”

“I was trying to tell you, but you kep-”

I cut her off, “Say it again, Azzi.”

She grins like the Cheshire cat, “I want you.”

“What does that mean, though?”

“Holy fuck, you’re actually dumb.” She rolls her eyes, “I like you too, Paige.”

I’ve waited to hear that for almost a year. 

A year of staring when she isn’t looking. A year of moments that I wondered if she held as close to her as I did. A year of wanting her- no, needing her in ways that seem too mature for a 17 year old girl.

A part of me thinks she’s joking. Or she’s just trying to make me feel better…

I think about the kiss we shared 2 minutes ago. Her soft lips on mine, her in my lap on the bed next to me, grinding on my lap, driving me insane. 

I think of her scrambling off me and saying stop and the guilt that has sat on my chest since.

“But-” The sentence dies in my mouth and tears well in my eyes, “But when we kissed-” I point at her “You said stop.”

Azzi’s arms fly up before plopping back to her side, “Because I don’t wanna fuck you the night before the state championship!”

“Oh.”

“Yeah, oh.” Azzi mocks me, “If you would have just waited 30 seconds, I would have told you that.”

Azzi Fudd likes me back. The girl I’ve been feining for, likes me back.

Suddenly, I’m aware of the chance to be a jackass, and of course, I have to take it.

I walk over to her and nudge her shoulder, “You liikkkee meeee.” I sing

She laughs and shoves me away, “Get away from me.”

“You liiikkke meeee and you liked when I kissed yooouuuu”

She crawls back in bed and uses the comforter to hide her smile, “Go to bed, Paige.”

I crawl in bed, on top of her and kiss all over her face, relishing in the fact that Azzi fucking Fudd likes me back.

“I’m sorry, Ms. Jackson.” I flash her a grin and slide my phone into my pocket. I don’t even need to me on my phone anymore anyway. 

Azzi and I’s plan is already set. 

My eyes never leave the clock. Counting the seconds until they become a minute, until eventually a minute begins five. 

My hand shoots in the air. “Can I go see my counselor?”

Ms. Jackson never turns from the board, her back still to the class as she groans before saying, “Get out, Paige.” 

“Love you too, Ms. Jackson.” I smile and dip out of the classroom, making my way across campus to the gym.

“Finally.” Azzi groans, ball already in hand. “How do you make the plans and still come late?”

“Shut up,” I throw my bag down and walk over to her. ‘Gimme kiss.” 

She ducks away from me, laughing, “I thought we were gonna play one-on-one?”

“We were.” I nod my head, “But you look so good,” I smile and grab her hips, pulling her closer. 

She gives me a peck and tries to pull away, but a peck is never enough, so I chase her lips and she drops the ball, wrapping her arms around my neck. 

In a few months I’m gonna graduate and go to UCONN and she’s still gonna be here. We’re gonna be almost 2,000 miles apart, and I don’t know how I’m gonna survive without her but I’m not gonna think about it right now. 

Right now, I’m gonna do everything but fuck my girlfriend in the middle of my high school's gym.

y/ndevils00 heyo! welcome back to my postgame boyfriend show! tonight the njdevils played against the spawns of satan (not trevor)! or.. i mean.. the new york rangers.

we start tonight’s recap off with a very cute picture i got of my boyfriend and his best friend (again; not trevor) talking about how much they love me during warmups!

we also have da sun showing me that the tooth fairy came to visit him awhile ago! i bet he got lots of money for his toofer, however i wouldn’t know because he’s stopped letting me steal his wallet.

our first goal of the night was a tip in by mr. haula at ya! followed up in the same period by a goal from timo time! notice how he made the post this time? that’s because unlike most of these idiots (i’m looking at you, marino 👀), timo takes me seriously!

however, immediately after timo’s goal, haulaback girl was placed in the sin bin for tripping. i was very disappointed and he got a very strict talking to during first intermission and assured me he wouldn’t get another penalty. he lied.

he got a penalty in second period for the exact same reason that he did in the first. i cannot promise i was as nice to him in the second intermission.

we got a few scrums in this game, but my personal favorite one was in third period and ended much too quickly for my liking. BOO, REFS!

You woke up in his arms on Friday morning, everyone had flown right back to Michigan after the game. You had thousands of thoughts running through your mind as your boyfriends alarm started going off.

The alarm that was waking him up so he could go sign his NHL contract.

They tried getting him to sign it in Tampa and go straight to Jersey but he refused. He wanted to do it at Yost surrounded by people he loved, in a place he loved, not where he just lost the same championship for the second year in a row.

You stayed quiet as he started to wake up and check his phone, the notifications nonstop since he got off the ice Thursday night.

“Good morning” he said as he hugged you tighter and kissed your head

“Morning Lu” you mumble

“I’m sorry” he admitted making you look up at him with confusion

“For what?”

“Having to sign this contract in two hours, and having to leave you, leave Michigan, leave the boys. I want to but I don’t at the same time” he expressed to you.

“Oh Luke” you said as you seen how sad he looked

“I mean me and duke haven’t been apart since freshman year, we’ve been together since our junior year, and these guys are some of my best friends. Not to mention I love it here, I’ve had the best time playing for Michigan, I don’t want to leave but if I don’t sign this contract I’ll be letting so many people down” he was crying at this point.

“Baby listen to me, if you truly aren’t ready to be pro then don’t sign, I can promise you that your family will not be upset with you, I won’t be upset. It’s your choice Luke, it’s your life. But if you are ready to go out there and show the world that a 19 year old Luke Hughes has what it takes to be in the national league, then go get your ass dressed so you can go sign this mother fucker” you told him through your own tears because no matter how bad it hurt that your boyfriend was leaving, he was achieving his dreams.

“God I love you” he said as he pulled you into a kiss that tasted of the salt from your tears and morning breath.

“I love you more” you replied pulling away

Two hours later you stood holding hands with Ellen and Dylan as Luke signed with the Devils in a conference room at Yost.

All the boys were waiting outside the conference room, they weren’t upset when he picked Dylan to come in the room, everyone knew how hard it was for the two of them to split.

“Congratulations Mr.Hughes your officially a New Jersey Devil” the devils staff member told him shaking his hand.

“Thank you” Luke replied looking towards you and his mom who were both on the verge of tears.

They took their pictures, one of Luke signing a fake contract , one with him and his parents, him and Duker, and then one of you two.

From here he’d go back to the sophomore house to get his bags and then he’d be on a flight to Jersey.

Once all the boys came in to congratulate him and more pictures were taken, everyone gave you two the room.

You didn’t know what to do or say, you knew if your tried to speak you would break out in sobs but you didn’t want to spend your last few moments with your boyfriend in silence

“Y/n..” he started but began crying as well

You just pulled him into your arms and hugged him, you two stayed like that, just holding each other until Ellen knocked on the door letting you two know that you had to get going.

You pulled away and looked up at him, both your faces were red and covered in tears, you probably looked like a raccoon because of your mascara but you didn’t care.

“We gotta go baby” he whispered

“I know”

You two stayed stuck together the whole ride to the airport, the car was quiet besides the light music from the radio.

Ellen and Jim both knew how hard this was for the two of you, you had been dating for four years and hardly spent long amounts of time apart. However you also knew how hard this was for them to send their last boy off to the Nhl.

After you made it to the gate he shared an emotional goodbye with his parents before turning to you. You ran straight into his arms already crying for the hundredth time that day.

“Flight 729 To Newark New Jersey now boarding” you heard over the intercom and it made your heart pang with hurt.

“Guys it’s time to say your last goodbye” Ellen spoke up but you could hear how sad her voice sounded, she didn’t want her baby to go.

“I love you so much Y/n” he told you as you both pulled apart

“I love you Luke” you replied as you pulled him down into a small kiss before stepping back so his parents could get one more hug in.

You held hands with Ellen once again as you three watched him walk down the hall towards his plane.

Finished Veilguard

so, I finished Dragon Age Veilguard having played all 3 previous games right before it (hence why I only started after christmas) and here's my thoughts having finished 5 minutes ago

SPOILERS AHEAD obviously

THINGS I LIKED

SOLAAAAAS. Like, he was the main reason I was excited for this game, how he got treated would be the make or break for me and I'm soooooooo happy that he was written with exactly the respect he deserved. He was proud, he was compassionate, he was a backstabbing dickhead, everything was perfect and I looked forward to every one of his talks with Rook. and I, being a solavellen truther for 8 years now naturally picked the change his mind ending and I got my reunion which is all I really wanted (I would have liked if it was longer but I understand its not solavellan simulator even if I want it to be)

GREY WARDENS I have loved them since Origins and I'm soooo glad they got a big focus along with the blight like in my heart that's what dragon age is all about (and naturally I rolled a Warden so it worked soooo well for me)

On that subject, I was very impressed with how well they integrated the Origins into the plot/dialogue like if I didn't know better I would say the story was written for an Elven Warden (it could be the case that its different for other faction/race combinations but idk)

They put soooo much effort into the character quests like its funny coming from just playing Inquisition where some characters have like a 5 minute character quest and others its an hour, here all 7 playable companions have fully realised multi part quests with bosses and everything

the gameplay is the most fun I've had in DA, sorry I don't like quasi-tactical gameplay so them committing to full action rpg is great for me

this is probably the best "presented" dragon age game and part of that is just because of the passing of time (and also showed me that I really haven't played any recent games except for BG3). There was 0 jankiness, the graphics were beautiful, the music is beautiful and the environments were really fun to run around in

the plot itself was extremely well paced, we didn't have the huge amount of downtime that Inquisition had, the shortness of Origins or the all-over-the-place-ness of DA2

THE LORE! I was so pleased seeing everything we'd speculated about was right :D

I liked pretty much all the companions with Davrin and Bellara being my standouts (Davrin especially bc I romanced him :D)

The whole end section from the Point of No Return was just... stunning. Like, I've never expected DA to have a good ending sequence - the siege of Denerim is laden with bugs, DA2's ending is dramatic on a character level but contrived as fuck, and DAI's ending is so sudden that everyone considers an expansion pack the real ending. Here though we got a 5 hour extravaganza of gauntlets, boss battles, and what I actually did not expect (see my thoughts later) actual character deaths that stuck. It was a complete mood whiplash and I loved it.

The Siege of Weisshaupt is getting a whole bullet point bc as setpieces go it was absolutely stunning, I really felt the panic and the terror fighting the blight and by the end of it I was shaking. Also Giant Ghil'inan face was hilarious.

THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE

You know the line about characters written like they're trying to get a good grade in therapy? well uh if you want an example this is what a significant amount of the dialogue especially in character quests is. Like I was rolling my eyes at multiple points bc the script would just not! let characters get angry and stay angry! The worst was after Weisshaupt when I thought there was gonna be some good friction between Davrin and Lucanis and it was just. cut off. I wasn't expecting DA2 level of character friction (and that wouldn't be good anyway, I have my own problems with DA2's character system) but like. Inquisiton level would have been nice!

Specifically on Lucanis he was very disappointing as a character for me bc they introduced him as a guy with a demon stuck in him and they barely explored. Like the last guy we had with that issue was Anders and well. I was expecting more with Lucanis?

Emmrich was another character I liked but I wish they hadn't made his choice to become/not become a lich be about saving Manfred it felt like a cheap way to avoid the actual moral/ethical concerns.

There felt like a lot of punch pulling in quests with killing people. like I should have got the option for Lucanis to stab his cousin, and in Bellara's quest I groaned when we found out her brother wasn't evil really and all her stressing over having to kill him was for nothing. This is probably why I liked Davrin and (the final part anyway) Taash's character quests my favourite bc they did not pull the gruesome punches. And also why having to kill off two of your companions in the finale shocked me so much bc the game had lulled me into thinking they didn't have the balls.

Some of the "Outings" and "Conversations" felt like the worse parts of a genshin character quest like sorry you are wasting my time going on a date. please tell me your tragic backstory and fuck off thanks.

I'll have to look at what divergences are available but from my PoV the first time round the only "big" choices are Minrathous vs Treviso, how you treat Solas (and I assume you can change your mind on that in the end) and who dies in the finale. Now true, they've been decreasing the amount of choices ever since Origins but like it felt very obvious here especially with character quests, like I should have been able to get Lucanis to kill his cousin (can you tell I hate that guy). This does make me wonder about replay-ability overall.

EDIT: Oh yeah I wish we'd seen more of the Butcher bc that one conversation turned him into THE most interesting villain and its sad thats all we got

EDIT: something that bothered me in early game and I kind of forgot about but now remembered is how like. blase everyone is about the elven gods coming back and being evil? like thats a dozen levels of religious blasphemy there. and it was a real shame they didn't have any elves following them bc like. they should!

THINGS I AM NEUTRAL ABOUT

I am kind of sad there wasn't really a political plot here (like the Landsmeet or Wicked Eyes) but then again I hated Wicked Eyes so I'm not gonna miss it

The absence of the mage-templar conflict makes sense and I absolutely won't miss it but it is crazy playing this right after DA2 and DAI where its such a big part of the plot and people's characterization. Like there's a big inbuilt friction that just isnt there.

I never thought they'd kill off Davrin at Weisshaupt for obvious reasons but like I wish they'd given a better explanation that "blights weird now idk". Like I was genuinely expecting Razikale to pop up again bc Davrin hadn't killed him properly or something

villains were completely one dimensional psychopaths but again, DA has never been known for its good or interesting villains. They were more successful and fun than Corypheus anyway.

I was slightly annoyed that there wasn't an apostate that betrays you and then I realised that's Solas. Again.

I wish there'd been more cameos from previous games but again I understand why they would limit that bc its mostly fanservice. Also since I picked Treviso I assume I miss a lot of Dorian content with the Shadow Dragons.

Taash's storyline did have me rolling my eyes at various bits bc well, its pretty on the nose. But her voice actress is amazing and really sold it and her whole final quest made my cry buckets.

Varric felt a little boring for me for most of the story but then we got the reveal at the end and I was like huh. that makes sense.

so, thats my thought vomit immediately after playing, I will probably change my mind a bit after letting it settle but basically like every other DA game, its got good bits and bad bits. and I will admit that the final questline ups my rating of the game a LOT like before I would have given it a 6-7 but now I might even give it an 8. idk.

Favorite Thing(s) I Read: I’ve read so many good things, it is genuinely impossible to pick one, or even several. I wouldn’t know where to even begin. I’ve been enthralled with the stuff you all post in response to @hyperions-light and @thedissonantverses various prompts and challenges. Best problem to have.

Outside of DATV, I’d have to go with: Love Song for the Admiral, which made me fall in love with a pairing I hadn’t even thought of in DAI. My original love, the X-Men fandom has The Early Years by Lelia Burke. For original fic, anything @hawthornetaylor puts out, but especially the Superpowered Love series. Can’t recommend any of them highly enough.

Writing Goals for 2025: Manage to write this long fic. It’s simmering in my brain, won’t leave me alone, and so even though I’m nervous (it’s been…a very long time since I attempted something that wasn’t a one-shot) I wanna do it.

New Works: I’ve got…six? One-shots fully drafted, and one more in process at the moment. All Neve/Rook. And then the longer one I’m outlining, same romance, same universe as the one-shots just…not a one-shot.

Kazuma Kiryu

Fascinated by The Sims. Mostly watches the kids play it, but they end up roping him into playing eventually. Needs some help at first, it takes time to learn the ropes, but he's pretty good at picking up on it. Says things like "Ah... I see." a lot. Out of all the games the kids have shown him, The Sims seems to stick the quickest.

Majima Goro

Takes a million years in character creation alone. Like decorating things or dressing the people up. Total chaos lord, if something catches on fire in game he just gets confused. A lot of saying "What do I do, c'mon, tell me!" really quickly and loudly. Talks to his Sims, says things like "Darn it, I told ya to go HERE."

Akiyama Shun

Makes his Sims hit on everyone. Actually a bit of a chaos gremlin but only in games like The Sims specifically. Once he realizes that game is basically him making a bunch of tiny people do funny stuff, he will proceed to do exactly that. Will always pick THE most styling outfits for his Sims.

Saejima Taiga

Squints a LOT, especially when trying to read options in the charater creation menu or when a Sim has choice bubble pop up. When he sees a Sim isn't happy, he says things like "Huh? Didn't I just feed ya?". His first playthrough is super messy and the house he builds is totally not functional so it'll take him a few attempts to actually get going in the game.

Tanimura Masayoshi

Honestly the most basic of all the boys at Sims. Plays it straight, pours in exactly a reasonable amount of hours, struggles an average amount. It's not his most favorite type of game to play and he prefers to watch others play it as he finds their choices more interesting than his own.

Ryuji Goda

He's all about that house building, babey. Probably ends up building himself some monstrosity of a tower and is like "Look what I made!". He actually kind of likes The Sims a lot once he realizes it's supposed to be a little chaotic. This makes him actually relax more, whereas with other games he can get a little frustrated when something unusual happens.

Nishikiyama Akira

Probably the most likely to make his Sims look like himself and/or people he knows. If not people he knows directly, then something like a celebrity or famous character. Pretty good at matching his Sims to people's appearances, although he mostly cares about the character creation than anything else. Might not even play the game beyond making characters honestly.

Daigo Dojima

Very precise gamer. House has to be spick and span, all the Sims have to be happy before he turns the game off. Fond of the decorating or dress up aspects and likes to see his Sims make friends or start relationships. Treats it more like a dating sim than anything.

Mine Yoshitaka

Sort of like Daigo but he treats it like a business management Sim. His Sim is going to be the very best like no one ever was. Won't really tell anyone he plays the Sims as it's kind of his guilty pleasure game. Prefers having as few Sims as possible in one game so it's easier to manage them all.

Tatsuo Shinada

Best Sims player to watch in a livestream of all the boys. Total goofball, tons of "What's this option do?" and general fucking around and finding out with his gameplay style. Makes the most random looking Sims. Naturally comedic when he plays it. Tries super hard to romance other Sims though.

DA:O I romanced Alistair. I love him so much. He gets so bashful and is like a golden retriever. He is so sweet.

Originally was making him King and married the queen. Everyone wins. But... They didn't work out (refuse to marry their father's murder. Whatever Queenie), Alistair still became king. He broke up with my character. Saying he needs to do his duty to have an heir for the throne. Not knowing if I or Alistair's can even have kids. Broke my warden's heart and my character Elissa decided she died when facing with the arch demon.

Only for Alistair to say it was duty as king to kill archdemon and end the blight. He said sorry he broke up with my warden and biggest regret he ever made.... Last night. but he won't let her die. He loved her too much to watch the warden die. So he runs off and kills the archdemon and dies. Now Elissa is alone and heartbroken twice over. Aurora becomes queen by default (awkward). In the end game she was broken. Barely taking in what was happening. Only answering that it would be better if Alistair was here. Literally couldn't have that as my game cannon.

Reloaded to land meets and made Alistair a grey warden. I think he will be happier as warden as he never wanted to be king. My warden usually puts duty and responsibilities above everything (why Alistair became king.) Only this time, instead of duty. She looks into her lover's eyes and asks what he wants. He said he wants to be a grey warden with her. So Elissa picks Aurora to be queen. Convinced Alistair to have an old god baby with Morgan, so both could live.

Morgan leaves and Elissa is upset as they were best friends. Vowing to find her friend. Not wanting to raise a baby alone. To be her support.

I'm going to replay the games later and see if I can get mods to work. There are lots of modded of extra scenes with romance Alistair and I love them so much.

Hades is an indie roguelite game released a couple years ago! and literally I cannot find a single bad thing to say about this game im being serious rn. The storyline? Fucks. The music? Fucks. The art? Fucks. The characters? I need to fuck everyone so bad. The gameplay? I've never been more addicted to dying. and this game is fully voice acted like WHAT?????

In the game you play as Zagreus, son of Hades, and youre trying to escape from your house because you hate your dad and also to find your mom. but theres also tons of other characters with their own sub-plotlines AND there's a dating mechanic. there's honestly so much goddang content and the writing + voice-acting is totally solid!!

i'm not much of a Gamer™ myself and im usually pretty shit (or mediocre at BEST) in action-heavy games, but even i found hades to be super enjoyable :oo it did took some getting used to in the beginning, but after getting the hang of it and because of the game's natural progression it does get significantly easier. I think the game is really well-balanced, and no matter what weapon or boon you use its still really fun.

if i remember correctly back when the trailer dropped it caused quite a stir on twitter/tumblr because it looked so good. And guess what!! they're making HADES 2 BABEY!!! but that comes out in early access next year i think.

I draw, I play games sometimes, & I do Gacha stuff when I'm way too lazy to draw. The mod I use the most is Gacha Nebula, but I do test out other ones occasionally just for the fun of it. If anyone has Gacha mods you think I would like, hit me up I'm old-school, so the drawing program I use for my art is MS paint. I also edit them with Pixlr E & FireAlpaca when the file is too big I miiiiiight post an occasional cover, but I wouldn't get excited over that. I'm not much of a singer, & I sound pretty shitty, so that will be very rarely you hear me sing. I'm pretty sure I'm a little tone deaf, anyway, so there's that. Sorry ^^"

I have alot of favorite movies, some animated some not. Like Aladdin (The animated one), Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Nightmare before Christmas, things like that. But, my absolute favorite one is Sleepy Hollow (1999). I've rewatched that movie, like, ten times by now

i know i haven't sent a letter in for a while, and i'm sorry, it's just been a super hectic week. i went to visit my grandparents this weekend, and they don't have internet at their cottage, so i wasn't able to access tumblr, but i did manage to finish an essay that has been stressing me out this past week, and i'm really proud of it! in othwe news, i went thrifting on friday, and found the CUTEST white maxi skirt, plus some pretty pajama shorts with blue flowers. i also got some makeup from the mall, including some nice blush/highlighter, and some lip oil. my little brother (5th grade) came third place in a district-wide chess tournament, which makes me a little worried about him getting bullied, but i'm still proud of him lol. seriously, though, that kid is scary smart. he's definitely the favourite child. (joking, I hope). do you have siblings? i have two younger ones, my brother and my sister, and while they can be a pain in the butt and hog the nintendo switch, i'd still die for them any day.

So I finished Veilguard.

As a game, about a 6/10. As a DA game, about a 3/10.

First and foremost, it runs like absolute dogshit. Now this may be on me because it warned me not to install in on my HDD but I thought it'd be fine ... nope. Constant popin, having to wait minutes at at time for quest objectives to spawn, quests breaking because certain NPCs didn't spawn/I accidentally moved over the trigger too fast ... oh and every now and again when I load a save my character returns to default. I could handle the long loading screens but UGHHH.

I love Lucanis with my entire chest but the romance feels so unearned because you can never just talk to him, get to know him outside of heavily scripted scenes. Well-written as they are, it's just not enough and it makes the entire thing feel ... not real? He makes you a dessert (cute af by the way 10/10) and then ... everyone starts saying you're a thing??? And I'm like ARE WE??? Then suddenly he busts into your room and is all lovey dovey and adorable and it's just ?????????

Looking forward to writing it though.

Gameplay is meh, but I expected that. Played on baby mode and basically stomped everything, had to actively stop DPSing to hear all the dialogue sometimes xD Mage was frustrating as you'd get stunlocked all the time, though that may be a skill issue.

Main story was OK. Very much too focused on certain people who shall not be named, but it was okie. Please let the inquisitor hug egg, he needs a hug.

Companions were very disappointing. I went in expecting to love Davrin, but found him very boring. Bellara was too "look at me, I'm SO QWERKY". I never liked Harding much so was meh. Neve I expected to like but went cold on relatively quickly. Taash pissed me off from the get-go, and I got bored of their shit real fast.

Emmerich, though. I went into the thing fully expecting to LOATHE him, but he turned out not to be a snarky rat man but a very nice, sweet college professor and I was actually very tempted to romance him. May well do so on a second playthrough.

Side stories varied in quality wildly, and a lot of it felt like it was written with entirely different games in mind.

Definitely not enough Dorian, and too much Isabela.

But the most egregious crime is that nothing matters. Nothing we did in the previous games mattered except "what was your inquisitor's relationship to Solas?". It even let me pick who she romanced but it didn't matter, even when Dorian teased her about it in one throwaway line there were no names mentioned, not even a mention of her GOING HOME TO HER HUSBAND DORIAN PLS. I feel that choice is there just to ferret out the Solavellans ...

Where is Hawke? Where is the Hero of Ferelden during this crisis? You can't even choose who the Divine is, and it seems to default to it being Divine Victoria based on some Harding dialogue.

Fenris was lurking around Tevinter being a menace, where the fuck was he? I was holding on to hope I'd see my husband =(

Also I was proud of myself for only getting one person killed through the whole thing (sorry Harding I couldn't risk Assan's neck, he is best boy) on my first try. I feel like it's possible to get everyone through? Maybe? Difficult to say.

Overall I had a good time but it didn't feel like what we'd been waiting 10 years for. They threw out most of the established world building and just kind of winged it.

A FAIR TO REMEMBER

The third, and final installment of my book fair adventures.

     ‘Fess up. You did a double take when you saw that title, didn’t you? You thought, “Wow, he finally got some sex into his blog!” Sorry to disappoint you, but the title refers to the day’s activity. This weekend was the annual Dayton Book Fair at the Fairgrounds. It’s the one day of the year my wife lets me leave the house without a chaperone. Fortunately, it was worth the nearly three extra hours on my feet today. (I worked a full shift before hitting the fair this afternoon.)

     The weather was lovely today, if a bit windy at times. I arrived about 1:30, and found a parking spot not far from the entrance. When I got inside, I saw a lot of open floor space. I guess everyone was home trying to find the Ohio State game on television. (They were on a bye this week, so most of those people probably spent the afternoon getting liquored up – which is what they would’ve done anyway if there had been a game – but I digress.) The layout was different again this year, and I left my book fair GPS in the car so I had to make my way around “The Coliseum” (a fancy name for an old gymnasium) on my own. They’d moved the collectibles section to the front, and most of my favorite tables were not where I remembered them - although the hot dog stand was in the same spot, and that’s the important thing.

     The first friendly sign I saw read Poetry, and I suspected Short Stories would be close by. I was correct. But the only book I bought at that table was a collection edited by somebody named Milton Crane. Titled 50 Great Short Stories, and originally published in 1952, the paperback edition I found for $1.10, was the 16th printing from 1962, and featured names like Hemingway, Poe, Faulkner, Joyce, Thurber, Chekov, Forster, Salinger, Wolfe, Conrad, McCullers, Huxley, Steinbeck, and…well, you get the idea. I like a good short story, and since I’ve begun writing them, I get ideas how to make mine better from reading the masters. (If you’re going to steal, steal from the best.)

     It looked as if all my other favorite book haunts were on the other side of the gym, so I ambled over to the boxes of records spread over about eight tables. There were almost as many people browsing the records as there were browsing the multitude of book tables. Clearly this was a hipper, less bookish crowd than I was use to seeing at the fair. Needless to say, I fit right in.

     I cozied up to a pair of honeys browsing the rock records and chatting to one another about what they were finding. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that there are women out there who collect records instead of different shades of lipstick. One of them was complaining to the other that her mother had actually given away her own record collection. She couldn’t believe it. She found a Supremes collection she was interested in, but the cover was torn. Still, she had a look telling her friend that she could live with that as long as the record was in good shape. He pal agreed, telling her she needed to be careful so she didn’t ruin her stylus.

     Since they were lingering in the rock section, I moved over to jazz for a look. (If one of them had made a move to jazz, I might have been tempted to solicit her, but chicks don’t dig jazz as a general rule. So I remained on my best gentlemanly behavior.) By the time I finished browsing just two boxes of jazz records, I feared for my wallet. I found Arthur Blythe’s da-da LP, The Griffith Park Collection featuring several members of Return To Forever, along with the greats Joe Henderson, and Freddie Hubbard. Ralph Towner & Gary Burton’s Slide Show on ECM was in mint condition. I found a pair of LP’s on A&M Horizon – one by the great Chet Baker (You Can’t Go Home Again), and the other by Mel Lewis and Friends. Mel has some cool friends – bassist Ron Carter, pianist Hank Jones, Michael Brecker on sax, Freddie Hubbard (again) on trumpet, and more. The Best of Bobbi Humphrey on Columbia also caught my eye because I’ve been listening to a lot of light jazz from the late 70’s recently, and flutist Bobbi hit her commercial peak then. I also found Wynton Marsalis’s Think Of One – one I didn’t have from 1983. But as thrilled as I was with all of these, the most exciting finds turned out to be a Joe Zawinul collection on Atlantic titled Concerto Retitled, a set I had never seen or heard of before that turned out to be an overview of his Atlantic recordings prior to founding Weather Report, and an Impulse album from 1974 called Impulse Artists On Tour that features Gato Barbieri, Keith Jarrett, John Klemmer, Michael White, and Sam Rivers along with a who’s who of great backing musicians recorded at various shows. This was another album I’d never seen and didn’t know existed.

     Since the classical records were hosting several long hairs, I veered over towards the book tables on the other side, but not before I overheard an old couple talking. The wife (70, if she was a day) said to her husband, “Are you ready to go, baby?” And he replied, “You’re buying all those books? Didn’t you just get rid of a bunch of books?” Another woman standing next to me said, “He sounds like my husband.” And I patted myself on the back for being Mr. Tolerant in all things where my wife is concerned. (Cough!)

     I whiffed completely at the Sports table. I love a good baseball book, but there weren’t any today I didn’t already own. The People table (biographies, mostly) was also a bust, and it was beginning to look as if the records were going to be the last money I spent that didn’t target my stomach. But Philosophy, Plays, Classics, History and Government and Science yielded a Bertrand Russell’s Best, Camus’s Caligula and 3 Other Plays, Chekov’s The Major Plays, Dostoyevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov, Richard Feynman’s Surely You’re Joking Mr. Feynman, Norman Mailer’s The Presidential Papers (about the Kennedy administration), Situations by Jean Paul Sartre, and Walter Kauffman’s Existentialism from Dostoyevsky to Sartre. (You can always find plenty of books on existentialism at book fairs because existentialists are usually miserable, and end up committing suicide. Their families donate their books to book fairs. It’s a fact. You could look it up.)

     By this time, my arms were drooping, and my knuckles dragging on the floor as if I was a member of the Bush administration. So I decided to pay the piper, and take my treasures to the car, then double back for a farewell tour around the gym one more time.

     Next time around, following my traditional can of Pepsi, and hot dog with mustard and onion from the food vendor, I visited all the fiction tables looking for books by a favorite author of my wife. I found none, thus vindicating my wife’s choice not to attend the book fair with me. I also looked through the record boxes that had been inaccessible to me earlier. (By now, the sparse crowd was down to a trickle of die-hards.) Country yielded a couple of collections by Del Reeves whose old records are usually hard to find, and priced higher than a gallon of gas during a Middle East crisis. A section at the end of classical labeled ?????, had in it a blaxploitation soundtrack by Booker T. & The MG’s on Stax called Up Tight. Regular readers of this blog know of my affection for soul music and for blaxploitation films. (Clearly the book fair staff does not have anyone who knows anything about music because they also didn’t know where to file records by Jody Watley or Mike Oldfield (yes, it was Tubular Bells). These and many more familiar artists were in that section under the heading ?????.

     My last stop was the Comedy box where I found a Mort Sahl album On Relationships. I never knew Sahl to do anything but political humor, so I decided to pick it up. Of course, one could argue that all relationships are political in nature. In any case, Sahl was one of those comics whose humor was aimed at intellectuals. As there’s little, if any, of that kind of humor around today, I thought it might be a good listen.

     So the take turned out to be 9 books, and 13 records. Adding the three bucks for the Pepsi and hot dog, my wallet was all of 29 dollars lighter. You might be able to beat that, but I doubt it.

     I promised the wife I’d pick up some fast food and bring it home – before the government sucks all that tasty trans fat out of it. I got in line at the McDonald’s drive thru behind a Honda van sporting a pair of bumper stickers, the first of which read, “Jesus Is The Answer” while the second chimed in with “God Rules – Always Has, Always Will”. I had a lot of time to memorize more than the bumper stickers because this vanload of morons couldn’t decide what they wanted to eat. I came very close to getting out of my car and going up to them and telling them that if they didn’t make up their mind and place their order within the next 10 seconds, they were going to be seeing Jesus a lot sooner than they’d planned.

     So, the 2013 fair was a good one. Next year, though, we’ll just order a pizza when I get home.
