Feels like Economics People are very quick to skip straight from theory to policy recommendations, and I get that empiricism can be hard there but, hear me out
Get a diverse bunch of people who are paid different amounts and test their General Competence levels by having them rotate through a variety of real-world tasks unrelated to whatever they do at work. E.g. the ones from adult-only workplaces and who outsource their own childcare, one of their tasks is now to maintain harmony and general functioning over four weeks of summer camp for fifty nervous tweenagers all while putting on the Best Talent Show ever, and so on. Crucially they are not allowed to use any of their own funds to smooth over any difficulties and in fact the ones who have Staff For That will additionally be subjected to several randomly-generated home/family emergencies they must attend. Actually vary this between the tasks; in other tasks this doesn't happen, but the ones with disabilities and care responsibilities get servants and an enormous slush fund and enough money after the study to materially improve their general financial situation, in order to minimise stress and distractions that might impair their concentration relative to people who habitually make fuck-you money.
Have people familiar with the field of the task rate their performance, and chart it against what they make in their day jobs after a research statistician determines how many different tasks we need to aggregate before going near the chart making software.

F/O Introductions (#27): Sun and Moon
Sun and Moon are animatronics that were originally designed as an acrobatic performer, but after a change in management were instead put in control of the Daycare at the Pizzaplex, a huge arcade/food experience run almost entirely on AI and exhausted employees. The abrupt switch in purpose was rushed: the animatronic’s AI was split in two and haphazardly adapted for a childcare setting. The result was a slightly neurotic animatronic with two separate identities and a whole lot of “quirks,” as the software team would kindly put it. (Source: Five Nights At Freddy’s: Security Breach)
Echo was hired as the Daycare Assistant after the last one quit, and was pretty happy to take on the job. They know nothing practically about AI or how the animatronics work, so it’s all a great show of magic to them. They packbond immediately with every single animatronic in the area, even the ones that haven’t been given personality chips, like the cleaning robots and mapbots. But they are absolutely determined to do their best by the Daycare, and that means understanding and helping Sun and Moon with their jobs.
Earlier Daycare Assistants had come in with more of a tech background, and tended to treat the job as mainly troubleshooting Sun and Moon. Echo, on the other hand, focused primarily on the kids and on helping Sun and Moon with their tasks, treating them more like coworkers than anything else, and learning their limits and preferences. It went well and the Pizzaplex called it a job well done, leaving Echo to it even as things start to break apart bit by bit.

Okay that’s it time for some headcanons to get these blorbos under control, and also bc it might help with writing them in the future:
Tumblr media
Sun
Sun is the featured personality when the ambient light around him is over a certain threshold for at least a few seconds. He is very aware of Moon, and while management often categorizes them as one animatronic, most employees and customers instead refer to them as two distinct characters. Sun also shares a memory with Moon, though he describes it less as being out of control of his body and more like watching a summary of events when he eventually takes control back, sometimes forcibly.
Though Sun adores kids, he can and does get severely anxious and overstimulated by them; this happens rarely, though multiple animatronic software engineers have yet to find a reason why—if he’s programmed to be a caretaker, how can he get overwhelmed by his primary duty? Regardless, Sun is often able to get through a full day of glitter glue and screaming by retreating to his room above the daycare, or if he’s particularly desperate he will try to let Moon take control, though this is even rarer still.
Sun is extremely expressive and bouncy, and several people have joked that if he was tied to a chair then he wouldn’t be able to talk at all; he makes large gestures with his hands almost constantly, though nobody is certain if that’s simply a happy accident of his childcare programming or if he’s just like that—the kids love him regardless. He’ll often jump about or the sunray spines on his head will spin about when he’s excited about something. Because of this, Sun is an atrocious liar (not that he likes lying in the first place)
Both Sun and Moon are incredibly flexible and acrobatic, but Sun does his best to keep any ‘unnatural’ motion or twisting around to a minimum—it frightens the children, or so he has decided, so most of his body language is relatively natural.
Moon
Similar to Sun, Moon is given control over their body when the ambient light is very low for at least several seconds, though the shift can sometimes take up to a full minute. Single points of light—such as a flashlight—does not inherently make him change back into Sun. It is painful however, as his eyes are carefully attuned to seeing in the darkness when he is physically switched over, perhaps even having a form of heat-sensitive vision that his maintenance workers have alluded to a few times.
In very rare circumstances Moon can be out when the space around him is fully lit; this however requires Sun to willingly allow him control and for Moon to focus very hard on not letting his body automatically shift back. This has only occurred on one occasion and is considered a bug in their system.
While often characterized as ‘evil’ or ‘mean’, Moon genuinely cares for his wards and for Sun as well—he is simply less bright and outspoken than his sunny counterpart. He loves to play jokes and cause various sorts of trouble that rarely bring harm to anyone. His most favorite activity is chasing the children around the daycare like a monster, but recent complaints by parents have restricted the time that the daycare isn’t lit during business hours. (The kids themselves love him though, several calling him endearing nicknames despite Moon’s grumbling)
Hilariously, Moon is incredibly good with neurodivergent children. Whether this is a purposeful part of his subroutines or not is anyone’s guess, but he does know when to draw a line with his shenanigans and is often a huge comfort to kids who are overstimulated, overwhelmed or needing comfort some someone who isn’t as high-energy as Sun is.
Moon, just like Sun, has the flexibility to contort his animatronic body into very unnatural angles, and he often uses this to his delight when scaring the kids (or the daycare employees on occasion). He is quite fond of scaling the jungle gyms like a spider, and is more than capable of twisting his body through openings that seem way too small for a seven-odd foot tall animatronic like himself.
Eclipse
Technically, Eclipse is not normally supposed to be encountered in day-to-day activities. He is first and foremost a subsystem safe mode, either in times of extreme danger towards himself or his wards in the daycare, or if he is suffering a system meltdown in some way and needs to do a hard reboot to fix it. He is so internalized in fact that Sun and Moon aren’t even aware that he is part of them—maybe deep down they can guess that there’s something else between their two personality matrices, but they wouldn’t be able to say much for sure.
On the flip side, Eclipse is aware of Sun and Moon’s presence, but he doesn’t share their memories or knowledge outside what is strictly allowed in his coding.
Since he is a designated safe mode and the combination of Sun and Moon’s code playing out in tandem, Eclipse is very sweet and soft-spoken; this is reportedly to help with keeping those around him calm, namely the children that would be nearby in the case of a crisis. But do not for a moment mistake that gentle demeanor as weakness—if he registers a threat within a certain range, he can and will remove it by any means necessary.
Any. Means. Necessary. There is a reason why most employees consider the daycare to be one of the safest places within the Pizzaplex, though management won’t comment either way in order to avoid misunderstood fear from parents that use the childcare service.
When in Eclipse mode, light and darkness don’t really have an effect on him, though he has described that there is a slight internal shifting within his chassis that is vaguely uncomfortable, though he doesn’t quite know why.

Can’t Find An Occupational Therapist? Try Online Therapy! — Therapy Connect
Teletherapy is online therapy using videoconferencing technology.
It can be hard finding or getting in to an occupational therapist if you live in a remote, regional or outer metropolitan area. Even some families living overseas find it hard to find an English-speaking therapist nearby to support them. All of the travel, expense, time taken from work and school activities make it difficult to access therapy for many families.
There is an alternative. Online Therapy. Teletherapy.
Teletherapy refers to the delivery of services where the therapist and client are separated and use technology such as videoconferencing to conduct a therapy session. Telepractice provides the opportunity for instant communication across geographic distance, facilitating access to therapy services for people living in rural and remote areas. (Loanne & Wootton, 2001)
How does it work?
The Therapist and the family prepare for the session in advance so resources needed are at hand or emailed through. The therapist, parent/carer and child have a session much like they would if in a clinic, however the emphasis is on coaching the parent/carer through the session to work on therapy goals.
Consider a family who lives in rural Victoria, with two children diagnosed with Autism. Their closest available therapist is a 2.5 hour drive with long waiting lists.
Within a week an appointment for a teletherapy session was arranged. The family stayed in their home for the session and used their own computer. The therapist used videoconferencing software to provide therapy supports from her office over the Internet. The supports included coaching around toileting and managing sensory processing differences in daily routines. This was so effective that the family then requested an additional teletherapy session with the school teacher and team psychologist. This needed to be done before school, which was now possible because no travel time was required. A 3 way Skype with the therapist, psychologist and teacher was conducted to address school participation and how best to support anxiety.
This level of therapy support for this family was only possible because of teletherapy.
There are many benefits when using online therapy.
Its Easy: You can make an appointment at a time that suits at a frequency that suits. You are not locked in to a visiting therapist’s timetable and as such can have as frequent appointments as you need at times that suit you.
It works: There is evidence that teletherapy outcomes are as effective as face to face therapy outcomes.
No travel or expense: There is no time or money spent on travelling to appointments.
Children stay in their natural settings: Therapy sessions can be conducted at home, childcare, kindergarten or school. Children are in their natural settings.

1. Interview with Sam Altman, OpenAI CEO:
Josh Tyrangiel: What’s the threshold where you’re going to say, “OK, we’ve achieved AGI now”? Sam Altman: The very rough way I try to think about it is when an AI system can do what very skilled humans in important jobs can do—I’d call that AGI. There’s then a bunch of follow-on questions like, well, is it the full job or only part of it? Can it start as a computer program and decide it wants to become a doctor? Can it do what the best people in the field can do or the 98th percentile? How autonomous is it? I don’t have deep, precise answers there yet, but if you could hire an AI as a remote employee to be a great software engineer, I think a lot of people would say, “OK, that’s AGI-ish.” Now we’re going to move the goalposts, always, which is why this is hard, but I’ll stick with that as an answer. And then when I think about superintelligence, the key thing to me is, can this system rapidly increase the rate of scientific discovery that happens on planet Earth? (Source: bloomberg.com)
2. More from the interview:
Tyrangiel: What’s the most helpful thing the Trump administration can do for AI in 2025? Altman: US-built infrastructure and lots of it. The thing I really deeply agree with the president on is, it is wild how difficult it has become to build things in the United States. Power plants, data centers, any of that kind of stuff. I understand how bureaucratic cruft builds up, but it’s not helpful to the country in general. It’s particularly not helpful when you think about what needs to happen for the US to lead AI. And the US really needs to lead AI. (Source: bloomberg.com)
3. A two-hour conversation with an artificial intelligence (AI) model is all it takes to make an accurate replica of someones’ personality, researchers have discovered. In a new study published Nov. 15 to the preprint database arXiv, researchers from Google and Stanford University created "simulation agents" — essentially, AI replicas — of 1,052 individuals based on two-hour interviews with each participant. These interviews were used to train a generative AI model designed to mimic human behavior. To evaluate the accuracy of the AI replicas, each participant completed two rounds of personality tests, social surveys and logic games, and were asked to repeat the process two weeks later. When the AI replicas underwent the same tests, they matched the responses of their human counterparts with 85% accuracy. (Source: livescience.com, Pre-print is here.)
4. Chinese venture capitalists are hounding failed founders, pursuing personal assets and adding them to a national debtor blacklist when they fail to pay up, in moves that are throwing the country’s start-up funding ecosystem into crisis. The hard-nosed tactics by risk capital providers have been facilitated by clauses known as redemption rights, included in nearly all the financing deals struck during China’s boom times. “My investors verbally promised they wouldn’t enforce them, that they had never enforced them before — and in ’17 and ’18 that was true — no one was enforcing them,” said Neuroo Education founder Wang Ronghui, who now owes investors millions of dollars after her childcare chain stumbled during the pandemic. While they are relatively rare in US venture investing, Shanghai-based law firm Lifeng Partners estimates that more than 80 per cent of venture and private equity deals in China contain redemption provisions. 8 Tips for Those Who Have Been Procrastinating on Tax Preparation NJ
Tumblr media
If you’re still procrastinating on filing your taxes this year, the good news is that you can still get most of the refund you’re owed (assuming you qualify). The bad news is that there are penalties involved if you wait too long, so it’s best to file as soon as possible if you want to benefit from your refund. Here are eight tips that might help if you’ve been putting off tax preparationin NJ this year.
Early Is Better
If you’re concerned about receiving a tax refund or owing money, you may want to file your taxes early. Filing early allows you to check whether you might be eligible for any credits or deductions that could result in more money in your pocket. If something happened late last year and resulted in a change to your financial situation, filing early also gives you time to change your return before it is officially submitted. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when filing early. For example, you will need to estimate your tax liability as accurately as possible and pay any balance due with an e-file. Additionally, some states require estimated tax payments throughout the year; if you live in one of these states and make an estimated payment during tax season but don’t pay enough during those months (or at all), there’s a chance you’ll receive a bill from your state after submitting your federal return.
Don't Overwhelm Yourself
It’s never too late to get started. Take it one step at a time, and don’t try to do everything at once. Tackle the biggest challenges first and then move to more manageable things. You might be surprised at how easy it is to get back on track if you take things one day or even one hour at a time. And don’t forget about all of those resources available online—you’ll find tax preparation software as well as video tutorials that can make preparing your return less stressful and more rewarding, no matter how little you’ve done so far. Whether you’re trying to learn how to file an amended tax return or figuring out what documents are needed when filing taxes, there are plenty of resources available right here in New Jersey that can help you succeed with ease.
Know What Information You Need
It’s not always easy to know what information you need to file your taxes, especially if you’re a first-time filer. If you don’t have all of your receipts and financial records, it’s okay; there are other ways to gather some of that data. For example, if you own a business or drive for Uber or Lyft, all of your earnings should be recorded and available online; call your bank and credit card companies and request copies of last year’s statements. Try making a list—even an incomplete one—of all sources of income, as well as expenses such as mortgage payments, childcare costs, and charitable donations. These steps will help give you an idea of how much tax you might owe or even whether it makes sense to complete your return at all.
How Long Will This Take?
Although there is a time limit for getting your tax return filed, you may have some wiggle room. There’s no need to panic if you’re still working on things a few days before April 15th. Still, it’s better to do it sooner rather than later so that you can avoid penalties or interest charges. Don’t leave filing to chance—organize your paperwork now and get started as soon as possible.
Don't Wait Until the Last Minute to File
If you’ve been putting off filing your tax return, don’t wait until April 15th to do it. The IRS won’t accept any paper returns before January 28th and depending on how complicated your taxes are, you may need more time than that to file. Even if you pay someone else to prepare your taxes, it’s best to give them as much time as possible so they can provide you with all of the information and documents you need. If you know what documents are needed ahead of time (e.g., W-2 or 1099 forms from your employer or investment manager), try asking for them in December so that when it comes time to file taxes, things move more quickly and smoothly.
Make Time for Accounting Software
For many people, tax preparation involves a mad scramble to get all their information together. One mistake that can be made when you’re working under a tight deadline is using an Excel spreadsheet or piece of paper to manage your tax information. While these methods may work in certain situations, it’s important to know that if your situation is more complex, you should probably use accounting software—not only will it help you file in time, but there are specific functions that are designed specifically for tax management. No matter what method you choose to use, having one set way of filing taxes will make life easier come next April.
Do Your Taxes or Hire Someone?
Tax laws are complex, and it’s easy to make mistakes if you’re doing your taxes yourself. Many of us know enough about tax preparation to get by, but that can be dangerous: In fact, in 2014 more than 5.6 million Americans filed their returns incorrectly (which led to a big refund delay) or didn’t file at all because they made a mistake and then got stumped when they couldn’t figure out how to fix it. If you’ve been procrastinating on filing your tax return because you don’t understand something, now is a good time to ask for help from someone who does—either an accountant or a friend/family member who has helped with taxes before.
Ask For Help If You Need It
If you’re struggling to prepare your tax return by yourself, don’t be afraid to ask someone else to help. A tax professional can help you avoid simple mistakes and make sure that everything is done correctly. If you prefer to do it yourself, some tax software programs are very easy to use. You should take extra care when inputting data into a tax program, however, as doing so incorrectly could lead to a delay in getting your refund or additional penalties from the IRS. Ask friends and family if they’d be willing to look over your work; it’s never too late to learn something new!

Developing Technology: Free Childcare Software Management
Top-of-the-line free childcare software is made expressly to support a range of service scenarios able to handle both small-scale businesses and private family daycare providers. While households might not take up baking or puzzle-making as much, there have been some amazing short-term initiatives to support families.
Tumblr media
One of the greatest choices made during the crisis was to provide the best childcare software in Australia. One of the biggest advantages has been that it has made daycare more accessible for kids by taking down the obstacles that previously made it quite difficult for certain families. Although there is a high cost and a deadline associated with this crisis response approach, the benefits to families and children go well beyond entering the workforce.
Let's Take a Look at the Software Used in Daycare Centres
Many of the difficulties childcare facilities would have while filling out, organising, and doing other enrolling-related administrative activities are eliminated by the enrolment management software.
Today, the most important concern is data security. Fortunately, with good childcare management applications, the administrator may provide access control to different staff members according to their roles.
The most widely used apps provide storage choices for the data they gather on kids. To enable the staff to give the kids the proper care, the data may also contain the children's different medical records, such as those related to vaccinations and allergies.
Implementation-Friendlier and Durability
Because of their shortened go-live and training procedures, best-of-breed technologies are ideal for teams looking to get outcomes more quickly. Because there are fewer parties engaged and specialised solutions, there are fewer needs for installation and onboarding, which allows for a quicker and more effective deployment.
Any system has to be able to adjust to changes. Adopting a best-of-breed solution gives organisations more flexibility for expansion and development by simplifying and streamlining the process of adding additional components.

Psychological Supply and Demand
Tumblr media
Spinoff Bubble: A psychtech biz procedural that's similarly at times dark and at times hopeful. Notice how the original series and in fact the real world prescribe a potentially self-contradictory coping approach for mental health sufferers: Prioritize your needs over others' but also seek out a support network. As empathetic and detailed as the series otherwise mostly is, the people whose needs are deprioritized as a result are conveniently relegated to the background: The sister who also struggles with childcare support is faceless; the mania patient supposed to be rebuffed for company hardly appears again. Perhaps we are meant to assume that someone in a better or more suitable mental state will be their support network instead, yet exhaustion and emotional turmoil may well be the norm in your own circle. You can say that this nail-biting spinoff is the orphaned progeny of the reality of our frayed and choked social networks.
Episode 1 👂
Our spinoff's heroine is the chirpy mania patient Yoon Ji-sun. In this new story, Ji-sun follows the professional advice of seeking a support network, only for her besties, all leading harried lives, to reply distractedly ("Yeah. That's what life is like." "Why do you have time to care about that?") or snap that she should just seek professional help. Ji-sun seizes upon the idea of a social app that connects people who need a support network with those willing to be part of one. Prospective angel investors, however, are skeptical about a mania sufferer's capacity for sustained focus and coolheaded-judgment. Happily, Ji-sun's personality eventually wins her a mega-following of crowdfunders.
Episode 2 ❦
Predators join the app, like they do on ride-sharing apps. Mental vulnerability is a particular magnet for some of them. Some of Ji-sun's friends also disclose their hesitation to discuss private troubles with total strangers, predators or not predators. Ji-sun decides to pivot to the development of a Buddy-in-Your-Pocket conversational app which generative AI emulates the best examples of peer support. She must convince her funders, who see generative AI as a dubious, soulless and even freaky technology. A real-life account of a son grieving by interacting with a chatbot that captures the qualities of his father touches them. The folks whose company we love are not generic.
Episode 3 👂
A few startup mentors reassure Ji-sun that app users only want to solve their problems and will not be bothered by how she assembles the product. Ji-sun gathers chat logs and conversations from Reddit, X/Twitter, etc. to train her software to react in the most comforting and understanding manner possible. But some netizens catch on to her sources and an uproar ensues. The public slams her for plagiarism, privacy invasion and commoditization of online community interactions. Terribly shaken, Ji-sun initially denies the charges but ultimately repents and plucks up the courage to apologize to everyone.
Episode 4 ❦
Ji-eun's psychological condition worsens under the stress. A long time passes before she regains some lost support. Thankfully, roping in an esteemed media ethics activist, a spunky new female character named Jin In-jung, as a startup partner further boosts her rebound.
"Don't just shake your head from the sidelines, Ms Campaigner. Come tackle the moral hazards together!"
Episode 5 👂
The app starts to gain traction. However, mental health experts denounce her for playing psychiatrist and distracting users from therapy. Nothing, they insist, can replace the human touch. Ji-sun feels betrayed that the professionals who urge her to seek out a support network beyond the hospital walls are now publicly condemning her for doing exactly that. Each side accuses the other of preserving or advancing their own economic interests under the pretext of public interest. Numerous supporters and detractors add fuel to fire, while a few caution against painting all healthcare practitioners, tech entrepreneurs or users in the same simple strokes. In-jung calms down the situation by drafting more conversational responses that remind users to consult mental health professionals. There is even a clickable tree icon that loads a directory of professionals in various specialties and locations.
Episode 6 ❦
Shock waves more severe than ever ripple through the app community after a hacker replaces all responses with the message "Even this app has given up on you. Go off the ledge to do the world a favor, loser." Before Ji-sun has time to react, users find their past conversations on the app, complete with their darkest thoughts and relationship details, leaked on the web. In-jung is beyond upset with Ji-sun. Ji-sun files a lawsuit against the hacker while battling a class action lawsuit against herself for negligence. Burnt on both ends, she lands back in a closed psychiatric ward where her phone and laptop are kept away from her. Ji-sun screams at the impossibility of managing her thorny legal and business affairs without internet access.
Episode 7 👂
Ji-sun apologizes to the ward staff. The costs — server, manpower, legal and medical — mount. On her way out, a stranger sneers at her for being so lost in her euphoric pipe dream of a world-changing "help app" when she should be on unemployment benefits. Staring at the colorful, busy city that seems to be revolving around her just fine, Ji-sun cannot help but wonder if her app is just another mania symptom. But right after her next outpatient appointment, she spots a teenager rocking her legs and smiling at the app while waiting for her turn at the crowded clinic. Ji-sun's vision may not be real but individuals who need a word of acknowledgment of their pain and worth at any time of the day are real. Ji-sun stands in front of a cybersecurity academy, ready to fight back for the sake of those people.
Episode 8 ❦
The controversies fade after some time, but so does the app novelty. A former user tells Ji-sun that he cannot shake off the truth: At the end of the day, his conversational partner is a mere bot with no genuine feelings for him. It says nothing about what he means to the living world. Ji-sun ruminates on this as she hikes up a mountain: Many problems in our world are gargantuan; we can only chip away at them, not solve them in one or two strokes. She announces a new generative AI app — From: Future Me.
