iwtv ep 2 rewatch thoughts

the groan…a sound that comes from the building being at the height that it is makes you wonder if it should be that high. its obviously so loud it cant be ignored and it’s not a nice sound. sure it’s a rare experience to live in a place like that like just that image is rare and beautifully crafted but there’s something off about it that makes the building groan just like that rare work of being the work of Marius with Marius being who he is, which we’re reminded of by all of this being explained by Rashmand. Louis covets the rare experiences in life despite whatever groan comes with it like being a billionaire living in Dubai despite the groan of it being a city built by slave labor and the groan of his sexuality being condemned there and illegal and the groan of his own exploitation of others in the way he exists there (i.e the blood farm, the men who come and offer up their blood for pay). the groan of the excessiveness and extravagance of his meal with Daniel. the groan of fixed roles he insists upon (but does not truly exist as) in between him and Rashmand despite both claiming its for the best there’s a groan of something not being right a lack of true freedom to fully express. this is the episode where Louis is at the height of his undead life/self expression/companionship/career but its always underscored by the groan of what it means to be an immortal monster/fledgling. something he can’t reconcile with. something he can’t ignore. his world has been opened to experience and express the full breath of who he is for better or for worse, but that is underscored with the groan of that freedom to be, being conditional to how he can or can’t live out his roles with his society and his family and the expectations that come with his role as Lestat’s fledgling/companion. it becomes more and more apparent that regardless of the fact that Lestat wanted to free him from all his hats, regardless of the fact that he probably meant it when he said it, he cant free Louis from everything. he never could. and he also actually isn’t able to relinquish control over their lives and the groaaaannnn of the fact that he will demand Louis to once again exist in a box he doesn’t fit/and doesn’t want to fit (strict gendered role). plus the groan of Lestat never understanding and often times disregarding the box Louis can’t escape and in some ways don’t want to leave behind (societal/racial). he enjoys the rare experience of being in a queer interracial relationship, the rare fact that people know but they get away with it because the power and access of wealth, status and being vampires but the groan of the fact that they have to hide elements of the truth to remain under the radar, the groan in the fact that in choosing a life with Lestat and the dark gift he can’t balance his life with his family and is slowly but surely isolated, ostracized and made a scapegoat in their eyes. the groan in the dubcon nature of that choice in the first place. he covets the rare experience of being a successful black-owned business in that time on that particular street and yet the groan of the success of his career being on the backs of the exploitation and labor of poor, disabled, black women. the groan of who he has to do business with and who he the clientele are. the groan, the groan, the groan. truly what is that sound!?

Diavolo likes to have lazy days because he can just spend them doing whatever with you. Perhaps you’d explore the human world or he’d try his hand at the kitchen! I wanted to elaborate on this but didn’t find how to make the transition so I’ll just say it here. One of the topics diavolo used to get to know you is your law major. He asked you about it and you two had pleasant evenings comparing the devildom laws with the human laws. Wrapping my arms around Taylan arm, resting the side of my head on his arm, I feel so small compared to him and I love it. I feel like we have both become closer since we have had sex, I mean it’s been a long time coming and I am not even mad, we waited and now I just want to be with him all day every day, I appreciate that he stayed behind and that he came to my nephew party with me. I know that he wanted to go because he has to start practicing for his new team, but he waited behind and then we spent more time together, I really need to sort my end of the deal and move to Philli, I cannot be overseas like that. I don’t even want to go back to Dubai but I need too just to tie up loose ends but I need to speak to my mom which she has been busy doing this for Aziel which I understand, she wanted him to have the best birthday and so did I “you think he will like our gift? It feels like life happening.

Somehow we're at the heart of Gaza. We, a few women. The beginnings were at a university in the US in the 80s when I was standing for the rights of oppressed South Africans. The beginnings were when my mother was born a few counts away from an Israel. The beginnings were during the peak of the economic crash, when initiatives were sprouting in Dubai. The beginnings were when she messaged saying please don't leave me, please don't forget me. The beginnings were in Ramadan 1441 (Hijri year) when women circled around the Quran and have kept it since. The beginnings were in my intention and hers. The beginnings where in Allah's Mercy and Wisdom. The beginnings were in the stories told through generations from Iskandaron to Haifa and Poland. The beginnings have everything to do with everything we have done and not done, everything that those before us had intended or forgot or were pulled away from or enticed towards. It is simply that none is The beginning and all are the reasons alasbab الأسباب that make this, what is, be.

It is a great gift, to be received with shukr : appreciation. Appreciation: increase in value [Merriam-Webster].

To be connected to a human soul who has undergone and continues to undergo imminent death, one who stands on their feet after witnessing savage acts of mass killing, disfiguring, erasure, burning, unforgiving noise non-stop, one who has, only by the verdict of Allah, kept their breath, is nothing short of reason to prostrate to Allah The All Mighty knowing that this opening is not a passing encounter. That to be given this is to be handed an infant and that any dismissive move, a thought even that this is one of every and many life encounters, is a very act of rejecting life, the pulse of life handed right into one's arms.

What does it take for me, for the women that we are, together, to be equipped? We're not. Our formal training goes against the flow of what this is. This is not a project. It is not a to do list. It is also not an aid emergency or call for immediate relief. This is the Creator's putting his creations in places to now rise into the best of what the Creator has equipped us with, and hand hold one another from falling into the worst version of ourselves.

Holy Quran, surah 91, الشمس Ash-Shams, The Sun

91:7

وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا

Wa nafsinw wa maa sawwaahaa

And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it

91:8

فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا

Fa-alhamahaa fujoorahaa wa taqwaahaa

And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness,

91:9

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّاهَا

Qad aflaha man zakkaahaa

He has succeeded who purifies it,

91:10

وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّاهَا

Wa qad khaaba man dassaahaa

And he has failed who instills it [with corruption].

In the midst of an erasure of a people, it is palpable to me what my role is, that I not fall into the delusion of the saviour role. Who is saving who is deeply felt in me.

Thank you, each of you who have allowed me (each of us women) to be in the realm of your life. It is a matter I (each of us women) take with the utmost awareness that I (each of us women) is not equipped except that I (each of us women) carry a deeply routed awareness that nothing after this point can remain the same as I have known myself to be. أتوكل على الله نعم الوكيل atawakkalu ala Allah wa ni'ma lwakil I trust in Allah [He is] the best Disposer of affairs.
