we killed a dragon! (the first and only dragon - I mean, besides the story-required one - that I killed haha. the combat was definitely not for me. you're welcome Morrigan.) the Korcari Wilds map is pretty though - I really liked the sky.

what other RPG games do you like?

Heya anon, what a fun question! If I sat and listed all the RPGs I like, it would take forever. Here's a ramble instead because I'm bored on a Sunday.

I've been playing basically any kind of RPG since I got a copy of Fallout 1 in... 1999? '98? I was too young for it, but I was also too young to watch horror films then and look at how I turned out.

Pretty sure I blindly walked into the Glow in one of my first playthroughs and didn't understand why my character kept dying afterwards lmao.

Then I got into BG with BG2 when it was released. After that I started reading Drizzt novels, and that's where everything went wrong.

Either way, I like pretty much any kind of RPG. If you can find it on GOG, Steam, or Abandonware sites, I've probably at least tried it. Old-school, draw a map, tile-based dungeon crawlers like Pool of Radiance or Might and Magic? Yep, love those games. All the Infinity Engine games and their modern clones? Yep! I'm really hoping we get a Pillars of Eternity 3 some day. Even though I think they've all had massive problems so far and I've had bad interactions with the company's community management, I'll probably play the next Owlcat game too. I loved the Mass Effect and Dragon Age games when they came out, but I'm eh on ME2/3 and DA is a really uneven series. I'm less into JRPGs these days, but I've played stuff like Chrono Trigger, Persona, and most of the Final Fantasy series.

Speaking of FF, strategy RPGs are just so, so good and I've had to make do with constant replays of Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre for years...

Tabletop RPGs are my only other real hobby these days besides writing, and I'm currently on a break from running anything. I plan on running either Dungeon Crawl Classics or the MCDM RPG (if it's out by then) when I'm ready for another campaign.

I've been a Larian fan since Divinity 2 (that's the Dragon Knight Saga, not Original SIn) and the fact that they got handed BG3 is still kinda surreal even now lol. I remember Kickstarting D:OS1 and thinking it was such a fun tactical RPG with just awful characters. That's what all of their games were like before D:OS2, really. Look how far they've come! And they managed to make a system that I think is largely bad for tactical play pretty fun.

OH! I also love ARPGs. I'm thankful I don't have a real hour count of my Diablo 2 playtime since ca. 2001, because it would not reflect well on me. My Path of Exile playtime is already dangerously concerning.

LMAO! dabb is so weird for me because he'll churn out some episodes i really like and find compelling (dark side of the moon, red meat) but then he can't stop himself from writing dean half the time like dean is a real person who fucked and ghosted multiple members of his family and then scrapped his car when pulling out of the driveway. THE definition of "making up a guy to get mad at."

OKAY. ok. it's like you're looking directly into my psyche. the phrase i've used for how people characterize dean is "lumbering ogre" but this is way better. it really does come down to people thinking dean is stupid because he grew up poor and doesn't feel the need to hide it. all those fics/posts where ivy league educated sam has to calmly explain the concept of bisexuality to dean...flames on the side of my face. and 100%, alcoholism is retconned into something that's inherently a part of who dean always was because he sucks and deserves to end up like john. which i've also never liked as a motif and feel like only exists for dean bc post season 8 everyone decided to stop giving sam any character traits.

gamble era IS dull and miserable, speak on that! all eras have their deep flaws but i watched gamble's live and it was a fucking nightmare to care about what was going on half the time.

dabb's whole deal w/ dean was surprising to me as someone who saw him being gassed up to hell and back pre-finale because he (and i guess loflin to some extent) really do write the secret version of dean that exists in a bitter samgirls head. dean can be a prick. he can be lacking in self-awareness. but dabb seems to take that as his default state of being. even hunter heroici which i enjoy overall has dean initially annoyed over having to work a case with cas which is so ooc it makes me want to bite lmfao. and then you have eps like 4x06 and 4x13 which are so obviously about dabb hashing out his issues with w/e meathead bullied him in high school.

dabb's dean is even horrible to kids, because dabb doesn't know what a dead in the water is and he doesn't care to find out. one of my biggest issues w/ 7x03 besides the whole butchering of japanese folklore and jewel straite playing yet another role better suited for an asian woman is that even if you think dean killing amy makes sense, the way he speaks to jacob afterwards is so fucking sociopathic that i cannottttt acknowledge that episode as canon.

DSOtM is an exception to this, and i think it's because having john w around to act as the narrative's punching bag means he lacks the energy to use dean as one too.

LITERALLYYYYYY. sometimes you read a deancrit take and it's like oh i KNOW you don't know any working class ppl irl. it's not that dean doesn't have a ton he needs to work on but there's this assumption that he somehow doesn't know or understand any of his issues or where they come from and needs a third party to condescendingly explain it to him etc and i can't help but feel like it's because he doesn't express himself the way sam, the brother who reads as upwardly mobile, does. this is also the reason his alcoholism is treated as an inherent character flaw and proof he's eternally doomed to be just like his pa.

i keep hearing that sam has nothing going on post-s8 and as someone who's stuck 1/3rd into s9 i truly believe it. i know the gadreel thing is bad on an objective level but it has zero emotional impact for me because sam's POV is almost nonexistent. like i do not like s8 sam at all but at least there was something going on there! he was a hayes code homophobe with the haircut of a premade sim but it was something!

(i can't get into sam-explains-bisexuality-to-dean because i've complained about it enough lmfao I HATE IT SO MUCH)

gamble era's just... it has interesting ideas but executes all of them as disappointingly as possible because sera gamble is more interested in misery than a coherent story. it's btvs s6 but twice as long and about men (🤢). s6 is a series of meandering b-plots the show expects us to give a shit about punctuated with the odd outstanding MOTW ep that the writers were keeping in a drawer for a rainy day. every one of those b-plots is dropped in order to finally address the second apocalypse-shaped elephant in the room despite the previous ~19 eps treating cas like a fucking square for caring about it. still, the finale is good - ideologically i don't agree with kripke but he kinda went off with 6x22 - and sets godstiel up as an interesting antagonist for s7 only for the first 2 episodes to squander all of that potential for dick jokes. and i really enjoyed dick roman as a character! he feels a buffyverse villain and it's legitimately fun! but a good chunk of s7 is sam & dean moping and hashing out their issues with each other by killing women & girls. not to mention dean's dropped alcoholism arc AND sam's dropped hallucifer arc. like until late s7 gamble era was so scorched earth miserable that i wonder what exactly she was aiming for. 8 seasons and a brotherly murder-suicide?

this is getting a little long. suffice to say dabb + gamble bring the hater out in me.

Lucky Charms Masterlist

After winning and passing the Hunting Games, you decided to go home. Watching the people who lost and will be separated from their friends, family, and everyone they’ve grown up around made you feel sick. 

You couldn’t even bring yourself to think about the people that didn’t even return. 

You ignore everyone’s cheers and laughter on their walk to the tavern, your stomach grumbling from lack of food. It’s kind of hard to eat when you're trying to find a way to keep your life intact. 

Your walk home was long, your legs and feet working against you as they cry out in agony. As soon as you reach your cabin, you almost collapse from exhaustion. You make sure to eat something though, an apple, to at least give yourself some nutrition. 

You barely finish it before you pass out, remaining asleep until late morning the next day. Once you wake up, you feel your stomach rumbling, demanding for more food. Guess that’s what woke you up. 

After making yourself breakfast, quite a late breakfast, you go to the watering hole. You gather enough water for a bath, walking back and forth from your cabin to the well with a bucket until you’ve gathered enough. 

You pour the water in the bucket into the container above the fire in your backyard just by your door. You watch as the water eventually starts to bubble, letting you know it’s time to move it. You then start the transporting process all over again. You move the water from over the fire to the tub. You know already by the time you get all of the water into the tub, it’s not scorching anymore. You let out a sigh as you slip out of your clothes and then slide into the tub. 

You sigh again when your body is submerged in the water, feeling the heat pull a lot of tension from you. You close your eyes, trying to relax into the water. You have to quickly open them though, finding the crying and heart broken competitors behind your lids. You also got a glimpse of what might have happened to the ones who didn’t return. 

You sigh and run your hands over your face, massaging your temples after rubbing at your eyes for a moment. You just need to relax. Don’t think about it. It’s not your problem. Relax. 

You take a deep breath and let it go, trying to let your mind wander to pure and innocent things. That’s when you think of the unicorn, the very definition of pure and innocent. It was following you, was it not? But for how long? And why?

Well, it was there when you had the run-in with the ogre. You saw it and then it saved you. After you ran away, you saw it again at that pond. It must have followed you there. 

But the question is why. Why help you? Why save you? Why reveal itself at all? Humans killed their species to extinction. At least, that’s what everyone thinks. It must know that. Or maybe it’s just the way of life in its eyes because there’s more of them? Maybe it was young when the others died? 

With these thoughts, you sit up in the tub. You quickly scrub yourself clean before getting out, making a note to yourself to get rid of the water later. You dry yourself off and get dressed into fresh, clean clothes. After that, you start getting ready. 

Ready for your journey to track down the, maybe last, unicorn. 

You pack food that won’t spoil quickly, fresh clothes, clean water, weapons of all kinds, a journal, a quill, and ink. Once everything is either in your pack or on your personnel, you make your way into your yard. There, you slip through the same split in the fence you did yesterday. 

The trip is much shorter to get to where you originally were yesterday, seeing as how you know where you’re heading now. You make sure to avoid the ogre’s area, not wanting to risk another run-in. 

You stay around those woods though, looking for another flash of white just like your first glimpse of the majestic creature. After hanging out in the woods for a couple hours with no luck, you decide to move on. 

The other place you saw it was at the pond, so maybe it’d be there again. 

You eat some fruit as you walk, taking in the landscape now that you actually have the time to enjoy it. Sometimes you forget just how beautiful the scenery is where you live. You had a friend when you were younger who moved away from here. You still write each other letters to this day. They tell you about how they live with sand and prickly plants. They always tell you they miss the tall trees and creeks that surround your village. 

It’s hard to imagine leaving this place. You grew up here. Forests and woodland creatures are all you know. Everything else is just a tale or something you’ve read in a book. You’d never tell anyone but you’ve thought about traveling beyond what the maps show. 

Your mind pauses its fantasies when you reach the same pond as yesterday. You walk towards the water and go to your knees, dropping your bag off your shoulders before wetting your hands and running them over your warm forehead and cheeks. You then splash the cool water onto your face, helping you to remove the sweat and grime. 

You use your shirt to wipe the water away, closing your eyes to listen to the gentle ripple of the water and the sounds of nature. While you’re doing this though, something in the back of your mind wills you to open your eyes. Your brows furrow before doing so and you gasp when you see it.

The unicorn. 

It’s standing across the pond again. This time though, instead of being on the ground by the water on the other side again, it’s standing on the edge of a rocky hill beyond where it was standing yesterday. You gasp again and quickly stand, staring up at it from your position. You slowly bend down to pick up your things, just as slowly siding your bag back on. 

When you start to walk around the pond to get closer to it though, it takes this as its time to exit. “Wait! Please!” you call out to it, swiftly starting to run after it. It effortlessly hops along the rocks to get higher up, making you huff as you watch it. You quickly reach the bottom of the hill and take a deep breath before starting to climb your way up the rocks. 

It’s not getting away from you that easily again. 

Once you’re a couple feet off the ground, you look up to find that the unicorn has already disappeared. You curse and climb faster, completely disregarding your safety. 

You apparently do that a lot. 

Luckily for you this time, nothing happens. 

You climb to the top with zero grace and find yourself jealous of how graceful the unicorn is. You look around at the top as you regain your breath, seeing that the unicorn is nowhere in sight. You shake your head and look over the edge you just climbed, surprised and impressed with the skill that it took. 

As you’re looking down, you notice tracks right beside you. You smile victoriously as you briskly, but quietly, start to follow them. You wondered why you or no one else has ever seen the unicorn’s tracks before. Did it leave them on purpose? 

You can’t help but to laugh a bit at your ridiculous question. As if the unicorn could control something like that. Maybe others have seen them but just assumed it was a wild horse? I mean, that’s basically what this is. A wild horse with a horn. 

After what feels like an eternity of walking, you eventually start to hear rushing water. You think it’s a creek until you get closer. 

It’s a waterfall. 

You smile at this, finding yourself growing excited. There aren’t that many waterfalls around your village. On hot days, a lot of villagers like to go to the creeks or whatever water source they can find. You included. You normally go to more secluded ones that are a bit farther away. 

This waterfall is definitely far away from your village. It’s no wonder you don’t know about this one. Momentarily forgetting about the unicorn, you run in the direction of where the water is pouring down from high above to meet the still water below. You smile when you break the trees to a clearing, all the breath leaving you at the sight. 

It is literally breathtaking. 

You quickly run to the edge of the rippling water and take off your bag to drop it to the ground. With that off, your clothes soon follow it. You’re all alone out here and all this traveling has you burning up. Once your chemise is dropped onto your bag with the rest of your clothes, you let one foot into the water. You giggle at the difference of temperature, small goosebumps rising on your skin. 

Before you can chicken out, you quickly run into the water before submerging yourself in the cool substance. You reemerge with a laugh, moving your hair out of your face. This water is definitely cooler than you thought it’d be but it feels amazing on your heated skin. 

You swim around for a bit before going under the waterfall to let the water rush over you. When you move back for air, you notice that there is a cave behind it. You make a note to yourself to check it out later when you’re done swimming. After probably hours of swimming, you start floating to give your body a break. You stare up at the swaying trees and swirling clouds in the sky, trying to look for shapes and figures in the clouds. You then register you’ve never been this relaxed in a long time. Before you even realize it, your eyes are slipping closed. You wish nothing more than to be able to sleep but you’d rather not drown today. 

Some time later, who knows exactly how long, something wet starts to hit your face. You open your eyes and see that the sun is gone along with the white puffy clouds. Taking their place is dark, gloomy clouds and little droplets starting to fall from the sky. 

You sigh as you swim to the shore, grabbing your now wet clothes. You head for the waterfall, knowing it’s going to be hard to get back to your village without the sun as your guide, and it’s not exactly easy walking through a storm. You sling your bag over your shoulder and bundle your clothes into your arm as you run towards the waterfall.

Someone in your village was once struck by a zap of light from the sky. Everyone started saying he was a bad man who was punished by the gods. You aren’t sure what to believe at this point. 

You grin as you briskly climb the short distance to the cave, happily crawling in. You sigh in relief, wondering how you got so lucky to have come across this cave earlier. You look at the pointed rocks a bit aways from the entrance and decide to hang your clothes from them to get them to dry out. Who knows how long this rain will last. You look in your bag and find that your clothes in there are also wet. You groan and do the same with them, wrapping your arms around your torso when you’re done. 

It’s honestly freeing to be completely naked like this. 

You sit by the entrance and listen to the waterfall, sometimes putting your feet into the water. You sit there for hours, looking to the sides of the waterfall to find that it’s still pouring. Without meaning to, you fall asleep right there on the edge with your feet dangling off. 

After hours and hours of being asleep, you’re awakened by some weird urge to open your eyes. It’s weird since you’re asleep and dreaming. It just feels like something you should do in your dream at first. But then, the idea becomes more prominent. 

You groan as you slowly start to wake up, bringing your hands to your eyes to scrub the sleep out of them. When you open them though, you're met with something that you never thought in a million years would appear before you.

So, last night I had a dream, and I will now write my dream down like a story because I feel like that will help lmao [also I may have fluffed it up but the conversation was definitely the dream lol]

When my friends asked me to play Dungeons and Dragons, I made it my absolute goal to piss Shawn off as fast as possible. I decided that my character was a mage with infinite magic.

“You come across a group of Ogres who want your steeds in exchange your lives.” Shawn said, in this dungeon master voice, which lets be honest was also his impression of Batman. He turned to me “Mage Enilorh how do you proceed.”

I feel myself smile as I pretended to think about my answer.

“Its Simple, I cast Avada Kedavra.” I said just like every turn before when we were dealing with foes, my friends laugh as Shawn’s face grows red.

“You CAN’T just throw AK’s at every problem!” he snapped finally; my smile grew wider as I had already planned my response.

“Course I can, it's the killing curse for a reason.” I said, “They do not have magical Abilities so therefor cannot defect my curse, so I have saved my teams life and our horses.”

“Thats not how it works, besides we all know that you don't need magical ability to block the killing curse.” Shawn countered; he looked hopeful like he would be able to knock the smile of my face but it does not fall.

“But as you said these were simple Ogres, Not Harry Potter.” I said, and Shawn just deflates. I had beaten him, just as I had set out to do. “Therefore I cast Avada Kedavra.”

Later,

“You come across small wolf cubs, how do you proceed?” Shawn asked; but before I could answer. “Let me guess Avada Kedavra?”

I gasped and looked at him shocked

“Im not a Monster, Feed them our scraps, Gain their trust and use them to overthrow our enemies.”

“You are not allowed to play anymore!”

Random question, but how do you feel abt ella enchanted, if you've read/watched it? do you think the movie did the book justice? personally i think it would've been a more popular movie if it was more romantic fantasy like stardust is, instead of a fantasy comedy movie

ok so to start, i love ella enchanted - both the book and the movie. i watched the movie first and read the book not long after, and i have the childhood nostalgia filter on for both of them so i have that bias.

based on the plot alone, the movie absolutely did not do the book justice. besides the names and the fact that ella was obedient, pretty much nothing was the same. the movie was way modernized language-wise and had a lot of pop culture references that are still fun imo. i’m just gonna list some shit i remember about the book to the best of my ability (it’s been like a year or so since my last re-read so i might not remember everything)

ella was forced to go to finishing school with hattie and olive

hattie was dramatic af and wore a wig

ella had a talent for speech imitation, which ultimately saved her from the ogres as she could imitate them well enough to persuade them to spare her

both of char’s parents (king & queen) were alive and there was no uncle edgar or heston

ella made char laugh a lot as they got to spend more time with each other (there was stair rail sliding incident if i remember correctly)

when ella found lucinda again, lucinda promised to spend 3 months obedient and then 3 months as a squirrel

lucinda got a taste of her own medicine and realized she hadn’t been bestowing gifts but curses

she felt awful about what she’d done to ella and many like her, but she couldn’t take it back even when she wanted to

ella fell in love with char but knew they couldn’t be together because of the gift/curse

there were 3 masquerade balls she attended so she could see char again but she went anonymously every time (changed her voice with her talent so he couldn’t recognize her)

ella broke her own curse by yelling that she wouldn’t marry char when he asked

note: neither benny nor slannen were in the book and aren’t treated much more than comic relief

char had an uncle edgar who acted as king before char’s coronation

char didn’t know that edgar killed his father and wanted to kill char too so he could keep being king

edgar also had a snake named heston who was cgi and talked

ella almost got eaten by ogres but char saved her and accompanied her and slannen to the giants’ wedding

which was where anne hathaway as ella sang “somebody to love” which was honestly an iconic scene that still sometimes gives me secondhand embarrassment (i mean that as a compliment)

ella went back to the palace with char to try to look up lucinda in the library records

edgar found her and ordered her to kill char the night of the ball for him so he wouldn’t have to do it

ella had slannen chain and lock her to a tree so she physically could not harm char

lucinda showed up and freed her against her will and ordered her to go to the ball

char whisked ella away and proposed to her and she almost killed him but broke her curse before she could

she got thrown in jail for attempted murder

slannen, two giants, three ogres, and benny the boyfriend book formed a squad to save ella so she could save char from edgar

edgar almost succeeded but ella used her sweet martial arts skills to beat the shit out of his guards

edgar accidentally knocked himself out by putting the poisoned crown that was meant for char on his own head

ella and char get married then sing “don’t go breaking my heart” happily ever after the end

oh yeah and mandy turned benny the boyfriend book back into benny the boyfriend man and slannen got with that one hot giant

so anyway i still really love the movie even though it was a hot mess LMAO. it probably would have been a more popular movie if they stuck closer to the book’s plot lines. idk what the producers wanted but it clearly wasn’t most of anything actually in the book lol. not gonna lie tho anne hathaway and hugh dancy had some Mad Chemistry and that fireplace kiss scene was just *chef kiss*

i think if they had given ella and char more romantic scenes like that and given them a slower relationship build rooted in friendship like in the book, it’d be a better romance. and like, some parts were funny but we really didn’t need slannen and probably not benny. benny the boyfriend book was only essential because he was ella’s map. slannen was comedic relief and added nothing to the plot. just. so many movie things didn’t make sense lmao, but it’s not the worst romcom i’ve seen!

in conclusion, i like ella enchanted. it’s one of the most unique adaptations of cinderella out there and i appreciate gail carson levine for creating ella’s world. i will always enjoy fairytales and fairytale retellings like ella enchanted. this ask has inspired me to go re-read it again.

(also, i don’t think any book to movie fantasy romance adaptation can compare to stardust because it’s just that good. neil gaiman really blessed us!)

ok au ask because YES: in the monster swap au we’ve only talked about rad bouquet so far (I think?) but what about Marc, Tal, Sir Caroline, and Angelo? Would they be monsters too? What kind? Also Dampierre?

I talked a little bit about Caroline (and mentioned Angelo) in this post, and I’m gonna go with my thoughts there. Caroline is still a human and a knight, and I thiiiiink Angelo gets to be a monster. I just... can’t stand the thought of him and Damien not being besties. My immediate instinct for him is some sort of stone ogre? Unless that’s too obvious, lmao. Maybe like... a stoneskinned, bipedal rhino sort of creature? i feel like a rhino would suit him. bulky and brash and strong and perhaps a little clumsy

Originally I was planning on making Marc & Tal monsters so they could stay associated with Rilla, but i don’t want to deplete the already small cast of human characters too much more

(weirdly i’m more comfortable filling out the world with monster oc’s than human oc’s in this verse and.. in general? maybe it’s because we haven’t seen too many civilians or non-main-cast knights, and monsters are so loosy-goosy already i don’t feel like i have to worry about breaking any rules)

and also... honestly i’m too tempted by the idea of Marc & Tal & their fam taking Arum in when his parents were exiled, like they did in canon with Rilla. Even as a kid I think Arum would be SO bitter about that, about needing help from anyone, and I think he accepted the help with bad grace, but him and the brothers were still very very close growing up.

and ohh... oh god. without Rilla I think Marc’s treatment options are a lot less... good. i’m sure other doctors could help, but, like, Rilla is actively called a genius and I doubt anyone else would be able to help him manage his condition as well as she does.

I like the idea of Arum helping Marc build his inventions while they’re young, with Arum being more focused on wide-scope planning and Marc dialing in to the nitty-gritty details. I think Arum liked spending time with Tal, too. I like the idea of the two of them indulging each other in infodump exchanges, because they both definitely get caught up in their particular fields of interest and want to share their thoughts, and Marc has a hard time being patient through something he doesn’t personally have an interest in. Plus, Arum and Tal are similarly bad at Getting The Joke and it’s a lot easier for Arum to glare Marc down after a particularly nonsense goof when he has Tal being earnestly puzzled beside him.

Also I imagine Arum as very good with animals, actually, and I bet Dampierre adores him.

I think, later, when Arum got Exiled himself, he had a major falling out with the two of them. He was feeling lost and angry and ashamed of being caught, and the second he felt even an ounce of pity he just went on the attack, verbally speaking, and him and Marc got into a screaming match.

He misses them. He built a pulley elevator into the back of his tower for Marc, in a vague, unformed hope that they will someday reconcile. He worries endlessly about them when the rumors of their almost-knight adventures eventually reaches him. He will never, ever, ever admit any of this because he’s a stubborn bastard and he’ll die before he makes the first apology.
