To Have Loved and Lost Part Nine
Previous Part | Masterlist | Next Part
Pairing: George Russell x Reader
Rating: M
Notes: It's been EIGHTY FOUR YEARS I am so sorry. Maybe two more chapters on this one.
Warnings: ANGSTY But also fluffy :D ; there's a time shift, it doesn't completely align with the show's timeline. Bear with me. Also this is not a story with a traditional happy ending!
Summary: In the last year, you had been made incredibly aware of the ways in which you were not Bertha Russell.
“It’s coming along well.”
“As well as it can, I suppose,” You conceded. Mrs. Russell’s lips pursed with a smile as she plied,
“Even you must admit that there has been great progress.”
You grimaced, tipping your head to the side a touch. “Not as much as there should’ve been at this rate.” It had been a long, difficult winter. There had been so many delays as a result of high winds and heavy snow.
“There’s only so much that you can do to control the weather.”
“As much as I can do, yes. Something tells me that you wouldn’t have allowed a blizzard to come between you and your home.”
“Perhaps, but you and I are not the same.”
She said it with such flippancy that it made you laugh and shake your head. But as she climbed out of the carriage ahead of you, you had to fight away a latent wave of bitterness.
In the last year, you had been made incredibly aware of the ways in which you were not Bertha Russell.
George truly had done well, choosing a fellow strategist. In your quiet moments, you couldn’t help but wonder, had things been different—had you joined him in New York when you were meant to—might you have been in the public eye, as she was? Might you have pushed yourself into the social scene with the same vigor? When you were young, you may have had the ambition. You’d been ready enough to forsake your family for what had once believed to be a great love. Maybe you could have made the strides…No.
For George, you would have made the strides.
“Do you intend to admire Mr. White’s handiwork from the safety of your carriage?”
Bertha’s taunt broke you from your regretful reverie, and you took hold of the footman’s hand, allowing him to let you help him down. You strode to Bertha’s side, matching her pace as you neared the bright façade of the house.
“I wonder where your head is sometimes,” Bertha commented.
“I’ve a number of matters that I’m engaged with at present. My mind wanders.”
“I’m fully aware. I’ve seen you drift off into fairyland in the midst of countless dinners.”
“I’m always listening,” You insisted, leading the way into the house.
“That I believe.”
You hummed softly, looking around the foyer. It was large, though not nearly as large as the Russell’s. It couldn’t be, given the city lot that Franklin had bought. But, you were more than pleased with what had been accomplished. Your two-floor compact mansion had all of the trimmings expected of the great families of New York, and was only a block from the Russell’s.
“Have you much left to do?” Bertha asked.
You shook your head a little, leading the way toward the sitting room.
“The ballroom is left to be completed and the bedrooms are to be painted and papered, but that is the most of it, I believe.”
“What’s stopped the work?...Budgeting concerns?”
You cast her a sidelong glance, fully aware of the barbed, couched curiosity in her question.
“No. The materials for the floor were backordered and it’s been too humid to paint.”
“I see.”
“I hope that you do. My cousin may not be as wealthy as your husband, but he’s hardly pinching pennies.”
“I’m well aware. George says that the sales have far exceeded what your cousin promised.”
“Franklin doesn’t like to make promises that he can’t keep. Nor do I.”
“Speaking of promises, are you still expecting to come to Newport for this next week?”
You gave Bertha a grimacing smile, bracing for her disappointment.
“Franklin and Eleanor will join you for Friday, but I’m sorry to say I will not be able to join you until Monday.”
“You’ll miss half the fun. May I ask why?”
“I’ve been neglecting my sorting of Franklin’s work at the office—”
“He has assistants for that, doesn’t he?”
“He does, but the new girl hasn’t been trained up properly yet and the receipts have gone to hell.” It flew out of your mouth before you could stop it, and you lifted a gloved hand to cover your mouth as your face went hot. But Bertha ignored the profanity, waving off your comment as she demanded: “What else?”
“Mr. White is having materials delivered that I will need to sign off on.”
“On the weekend?”
“On Saturday, yes. I want eyes on them the moment that they arrive, so that I may correct any disparities right away. I don’t want the work delayed any further.”
“I understand.”
“But I will join as soon as I’m able.”
“I am glad to hear it.”
“As am I. And Eleanor is incredibly excited.”
“Is she?”
“She’s heard a fair amount about Newport from Gladys, of course. She’s felt terribly left out.”
“She is young.”
“I know,” You nodded, looking around the sitting room. “But…It wears on you more, I think. When you are young.”
“I can hardly remember that feeling. Can you?”
“...All too well.”
--
“Will you be able to join us at all?”
George took up his glass of wine, taking a deep pull as he mulled over his answer. He’d known for a few days that he would have to disappoint his wife. He had no doubt of her annoyance in this regard. She’d planned on entertaining on Saturday evening, and while she could shoulder it with Larry, it was far more advantageous if they were both there.
“I should be able to get away for a couple of days,” He admitted, “But I’d arrive on the Monday.”
Bertha hummed in thought, but George could sense the soft, disappointed note in his wife’s voice.
“I would join sooner if I could,” He added, lips tipped in an apologetic smile.
She shook her head: “I understand. Perhaps you could escort Mr. Hughes’ sad cousin when you do travel.”
Sad cousin. It struck a chord in him that he had nearly forgotten. They had made such great strides that the last year had been so terribly cordial between the two of them. If he was pressed for the truth of their relationship—or some form of the truth of it, as it was now—he would go so far as to say that they were friends. George was almost certain that she and Bertha were in good standing with one another; they joined one another frequently for events, teas, balls, dinners.
Perhaps that was why the use of sad caught him so off-guard, and seemed to hit him in the vicinity of below the belt.
His hesitation went unnoticed as Bertha beckoned a servant closer to top off her glass of wine.
“Her house is coming along,” She added.
“Oh?”
“Mm. There’s been a back up on building materials, but she’s managing. Mr. Hughes and Eleanor will arrive in Newport on the Friday, and they’ll attend at least the tea, though I’m certain Eleanor will have to remain behind on Saturday evening, poor thing.”
“Perhaps she’ll be able to visit with Gladys. I know that they enjoy their time together.”
“They do. I daresay Eleanor has had a good effect on her.”
“Really.” His brow wrinkled, intrigued. “What makes you say that?”
“I think having Eleanor around and remembering the way it was before has made her grateful for the freedom she’s afforded.” Bertha leaned back a touch as the servants stepped in to clear the plates. “I’ve heard far less belly-aching about the events that we’ve allowed her to attend lately.”
George nodded a touch, considering. It was true—Gladys had seemed to be in fine fettle for the last few months, and it was in no doubt in part due to the time that she spent with Eleanor.
“I do want to hold a dinner on Monday when you’ve arrived, and with the cousin as well. Can I count on you to extend the invitation?” Bertha asked. “I’m certain she’ll be more likely to accept if you show her the attention. She receives it so rarely.”
George’s hands twisted in his napkin before he lifted it from his lap, setting it on the table as he gave Bertha a small, reassuring smile.
“I’d be happy to.”
--
The rented Hughes home that they had procured had a dark, foreboding façade, but George knew well enough that the inside was light and airy. He had been there for a few drop-ins, meetings, and dinners as needed for the last year. He’d seen her run a tight ship.
Despite his promise, George had lagged in presenting her with the invitation that he had promised Bertha he would impart. He wished that he could excuse that his week had gotten away from him, and it had, some—but he had felt some block, some resistance to running the invitation over. By all rules and conventions, it was wholly unnecessary. It made far more sense for Bertha to send the invitation directly. But, there he was, knocking on the Hughes’ door, and smiling blithely as the butler opened the door.
“I’m here to speak with the mistress of the house.”
“I’m afraid the mistress of the house is not seeing anyone this evening, sir.”
“I see…Thank you.”
George walked down the front steps calmly and slowly, turning his cane in his hand. He would have to send it by mail, as soon as he was able. He was set to climb back into his carriage, and then a breeze pushed across his face. It brought a familiar scent with it—one that drew him back to his youth, when his beard was merely peach fuzz coating his work-blushed cheeks. He glanced back toward the side passageway, likely the servants’ entrance, then turned back to his coachman.
“Return to the house,” He ordered. “I’ll make my own way back.”
The coachman tipped his hat to George before urging the carriage on. George glanced around the street to ensure no one was watching before he dipped into the side passageway, descending the stairs. He peered in through the window into the kitchen, eyes narrowed a touch. He took a cursory glance toward the alley before he raised his cane, rapping it twice on the window.
--
You jumped about a sound at the knock, your head twitching toward the window. You drew in a stunned, nervous breath as you hurriedly rounded the table, drying your hands on your apron before pulling the door open.
“What are you doing here?”
“I’ve an invitation to give you.”
“You couldn’t have left it upstairs?” You peered around the doorway before you reached out, grasping his arm and pulling him inside. You cast one more look about for nosy neighbors before shutting the door. You turned to find George wandering more deeply into the kitchen, his hat in hand as he peered around.
“Well?” You tacked on. George didn’t turn to meet your eye or answer you. He just walked over to the stove, lowering his head to take a whiff at the bubbling pot there.
“It’s a little hot for stew, isn’t it?” He asked, glancing back at you.
“…Perhaps,” You agreed, “But it was the only thing I wanted.”
George’s lips pulled with a small smile as he turned his head, lowering it to take another sniff. You ought to extract the invitation and go. If anyone found you with George, you’d catch hell for it. Worse—Franklin and Ellie would catch hell for it. But—
“…Have you eaten yet?”
--
It was odd to see George in a state that you now considered so terribly dressed down. He’d hung his hat, coat, and suit jacket by the door, and rolled his sleeves up. The windows by the kitchen and down the hall had been opened, allowing a warm breeze to push through the room.
“Your butler told me you weren’t seeing anyone.”
“I’m not.” You glanced up at George to find him giving you a smug little smile. “This doesn’t count. You just—Barged in.”
“I may’ve been uninvited, but you offered me dinner.”
“I suppose that’ll teach me.”
It probably wouldn’t. George smiled nonetheless, dipping his spoon into the bowl and drawing out the red broth, along with bits of bean, celery, and chicken.
“Did you give your chef conjure the recipe of this based on your old notes?”
“No. I made it myself. I sent almost everyone else up to Newport with Eleanor and Franklin.”
George’s brows rose in surprise as he lowered the spoon again.
“All?” He repeated, eyes darting toward the stairs.
“Robinson wouldn’t go. He insisted on staying, on the off-chance something happened, or I needed help.”
“And the chef left you nothing?”
“He offered, but…” You shook your head, eyes lowering to your food. “It’s strange. There were so many things I swore I’d never do again once I left Stevensville. But now that I have the choice of not doing them, I…Miss them.”
“Including the washing up?”
“Not that. Never that.”
“Leave it for them.”
“I can’t do that,” You groaned, laughing. “I told the chef I would go to Del Monico’s.”
“Robinson is a witness to the opposite.”
“He’ll cover for me.”
“Why send them with the others?”
“Franklin and Eleanor are in Newport, less of a household to care for. And it’s hard to get some alone time in a household full of people.”
George nodded a touch, eyes wandering your face. You turned your head after a moment, unable to bear the force of his focus.
“I take it your family is waiting for you at home?”
“…No,” George said. “They’re similarly occupied in Newport.”
“Ah, that’s right. It’s a popular destination these days.”
“Indeed.”
“And surely cooler than it is in the city now.”
“Almost certainly.”
“Your son mentioned your intention of buying a home there.”
“Yes. I expect Bertha will return with news and a price tag.”
You smiled a little bit.
“If that’s the trend, I’m certain Franklin will want one for himself as well. I cannot imagine how Ellie’s head must be spinning.”
You glanced back, doing a double-take at the sound of creaking on the stairs. You sprang up from your chair, waving George up hurriedly and toward the back doorway, his hat, coat, and suit jacket in hand. You shushed him softly before rushing back to the table, taking up George’s bowl, spoon, and wine glass and hurrying to the empty wash bin. You lowered them in quickly, then turned toward the door, smoothing your expression and raising your brows as Robinson rounded into the room.
“I’m sorry to disturb you, miss.”
“Not at all, Robinson. Is there something I can help you with?”
“No—No. Simply…”
You arched a brow at Robinson twisting, nervous expression.
“Yes?” You pressed.
“I thought I heard someone else’s voice, ma’am.”
Your heart thudded in your chest, your cheeks heating as you fought to keep a calm countenance, fingers tightening slightly on the edge of the wash bin.
“Perhaps it was merely sound that came in from outside. This house does carry noise so oddly.”
Robinson’s lips twitched nervously before he gave a nod.
“Of course, ma’am. I’m sorry to have disturbed you.”
“Not a disturbance at all. Thank you for coming to look in on me. I do appreciate it.”
“Of course.”
He gave the kitchen one more cursory look before walking back up the stairs. You glanced after him, hearing the stair creaking again. You hurried over to the door, pushing it closed before you turned back. You found George peering curiously around the corner, and your stomach lurched at the sight. It was so similar to once he’d given you so many times, so long ago.
“Is it clear?” He murmured.
“I believe so, yes.”
You glanced up through the door again, even as George stepped out from his hiding place again.
“Your food in the bin—It’s empty,” You insisted, taking in his disappointed moue. George walked over to the bin and reached in, only retrieving his wine glass.
“Are you so worried about someone finding us together?”
“It would be unwise,” You pointed out, walking back to the table to retrieve your wine. “And it’s not for the sake of my reputation.”
“Mine?”
“I suppose, in some respect—but you would recover well enough in society. It’s mostly for the sake of this household.”
“I was under the impression that you bore very little love for Franklin.”
“Franklin and I have…An understanding. And I worry more for Eleanor. She has yet to make her debut, and I won’t have her make it in a house with a cloud of scandal over it.”
“…You care deeply for her.”
“I do.”
“You act as though she was your own daughter.”
It wasn’t an accusation by any means, but it still made your gut twist with discomfort. You lowered your gaze to your hands, picking absently at your neatly manicured nails. There were a few flecks beneath them—bits of spice from when you’d cooked, mess where there hadn’t been for a long time.
“…She’s the only chance I’ll have at arranging something of this sort,” You reminded him.” I want it to be perfect.”
George smiled a touch, lowering his eyes to his wine.
“Bertha was quite insistent on the importance of Gladys’ coming out.”
“They are very important. It lays the foundation for their season. A rocky path could either mean a dangerous ascent or a speedy descent. I don’t want that for her.”
You heard George hum thoughtfully before the light thud of his glass being set down.
“On that note—or rather, an analogous one,” His footsteps grew closer. “I’ve an invitation for you.”
“An invitation?” Your brow furrowed. “Have I missed something?”
“Not at all. Bertha asked me to deliver it personally, and to accompany you on our mutual trip to Newport on Monday.”
Your brows rose again at the sight of the invitation, and you reached out, plucking the envelope from your fingers.
“Unorthodox,” You muttered.
“My wife isn’t known for walking the straight and narrow.”
His wife. The reminder had ceased to sting in the way that it had when you first arrived in New York, but it always lodged a lump in your throat.
“I’ve noticed,” You chuckled softly, forcing past the discomfort.
“I will pick you up on Monday. Will three be alright?”
“Yes. Thank you for taking the pains to come and deliver this,” You added, drawing the invitation out of the envelope and scanning Bertha’s familiar handwriting.
“Of course. Thank you for dinner.”
You huffed humourlessly, humming as you heard him make for the door.
“It’s better,” He commented. You frowned, looking up.
“Pardon?”
“The stew,” George nodded to the washbin. “It’s better than I remember.” He tipped his hat to you before setting it fully on his head. Your smile widened as he melted from your sight, the sound of the door closing behind him, and his footsteps fading.

Perfect to Love
Pairing: Steve Harrington x FemReader!PlusSize
Warnings: fluff, mentions of bullying, body image issues, fat shaming, angst, trust issues.
Summary: Beth Walker was used to living in the shadows. She had only one friend and anyone else who paid her mind usually bullied her for her size. So she learned to keep her mouth shut, her head down, and her heart closed because she had to accept the fact that she would be nothing more than the fat girl to people. That is until Robin decides Beth needs more in life and that might just include a boy who she never would’ve thought could see her for who she truly was.
word count: 1,326
→ Part 1
Masterlist
"Bertha!" chuckles from teenage boys followed the sneer that came from Colin Matterson's mouth, football captain, and all around douche. Beth recoiled into her self as heads turned to look at her and her peers chuckled. People thought they were clever adding two little letters to her name, instead they were just mean.
"Eat shit Matterson!" Robin stood and yelled to which the boy just brushed off and continued on his way to a seat in the bleachers. Beth felt her breaths coming out in heavy paces but she appreciated Robin for sticking up for her. "Don't listen to him Beth, he's an asshole"
"You know I ignore him" Beth told her, adjusting the strap to her marching band helmet. Robin took notice of how her flute trembled in her hand despite the tough facade she was putting on.
"Still Beth, people like him aren't going to matter by the end of the year" Vickie piped in. Ever since the three had been placed beside each other in the line up they had gotten to know each other. They also learned that Beth was super cool despite being silent most of the time. Things used to not be so bad until Barb Holland passed away, leaving her to be the only bigger girl left in their grade.
"I know, just hurts that he's right" both girls instantly gave offended looks, quickly muttering off how she was one of the most prettiest girls they knew but sometimes those comments didn't hold a lot of weight opposed to the mean ones. Beth knew it was wrong to not think her friends were sincere but if Colin Matterson was the one calling her beautiful things would be a bit different. Being seen at all by somebody new would be different.
"Beth nobody is perfect and you in comparison to Colin Matterson is a thousand times better and I mean it. You have more personality and good qualities in your pinky finger than he does all together" Beth offered a smile because a small part of her knew she was right. Yet after years of opposite comments there was still a small part of her that believed Robin was just saying it to make her feel better.
"Thanks Rob" but Robin knew she still didn’t get through to the girl and that thought frustrated her more than anything. Beth deserved to be seen for the amazing person she was, somebody like that shouldn’t have to hide from the world because of some stupid standard of beauty. It pissed Robin off to no end especially when she knew if Beth looked how people thought she should look she would be the most popular girl in school.
Robin kept this in mind throughout the entirety of the pep rally, walking Beth to her car, and waiting for Steve to pick her up. She was frustrated not only trying to find a way for others to see how amazing Beth was but for Beth to see herself as such. Robin knew what hating yourself could be like, it took years for her to accept being gay. Some things you can’t change and the sooner you learn to accept them the happier you’ll be. Yet since she couldn’t come up with a sure fire way she continued to be frustrated.
“What’s with you?” Robing looked up from the returns she was stacking to see Steve leaned against the counter giving her a confused look.
“What do you mean?” she asked and he quickly chuckled, a shake of his head swaying some stray hairs loose.
“You’ve barely said a word since we’ve gotten here. Normally you’re going on and on about how cute Vickie was at band practice today. You being quiet is weird” Steve told her and Robin finally sighed, falling against the counter like she had finally given up.
“It’s Beth” Steve rose his eyebrows in a suggestive way and Robin shook her head against the counter top, a sign that it wasn’t like he thought.
“Beth Walker, you remember her?” Robin asked and Steve shook his head which only caused Robin to sigh harder.
“She’s my friend and easily the sweetest girl on this planet but she gets terrorized at school, she doesn’t even know how cool she is because of how terrible to other students are to her” Robin explained and Steve suddenly felt guilty for not knowing her despite being a grade ahead.
“Why are they bullying her?” Steve asked, curious as to what reason someone would have to treat a sweet girl badly.
“She’s bigger, kinda like Barb but shorter. They call her Bertha” Steve cringed at the mean name, even he could feel the sting of it.
“That’s awful Rob” he told her and she nodded as she lifted her head from the counter.
“It is and Steve she is so great. Like the coolest chick you’d ever meet. She drives a brand new corvette and the kids still treat her like shit” Steve smiled at Robins defense for the girl, the thought comforting him to know she’d do the same for him.
“Have you tried telling her this?” Robin let out a small groan as she started to pick at a stray string on her shirt.
“All the time but I know she doesn’t listen. I can’t blame her though, when the same people keep building you up and hundreds of strangers tear you down it doesn’t do much. That’s a battle meant to be lost” Robin wished that her words could resonate with the girl but the only way they would is if someone like Colin Matterson finally came around and started saying them. Then suddenly it hit her. “You used to be a dick right?”
“Woah, what the hell?” Steve held his hands up and Robin rolled her eyes.
“You know what I mean Steve, you weren’t the best guy back in the day” Robin defended and he dropped his head.
“That’s way harsh Rob, you know I’m not like that anymore” Robin nodded and began to move around the counter to face him.
“Well yeah, you’re super cool now. But guys like Colin Matterson still think you’re King of Hawkins?” Steve thought about it before nodding, he graduated with the Mr. Popular reputation even if he still didn’t feel like he had it.
“Not that I’m proud of it but yeah, those guys all still think I’m hot shit” Steve said as he crossed his arms. “So what’re you getting at?”
“Meet Beth, hang out with her in public, if people see you with her they might realize it’s not her size that matters” Steves eyes widened, totally not seeing where this conversation was going.
“I don’t know Rob-”
“Please Steve, she’s so great. It doesn’t have to be right away, I can bring her to a movie night or something. She just deserves to be seen for who she is and I can’t help her with that but you can” Steve pressed his hand to his eyes, thinking about it for a moment before turning to her.
“One movie night, then I’ll think about it” he told her as he pointed a finger at her and she began to jump and cheer. “You’re something else”
“And you’re the best Steve Harrington, truly” Steve tried to hide his smile but he couldn’t help it as he watched Robin become so happy over the thought that she could help a friend.
If Robin had claimed this girl was so special maybe it was worth a shot. Hell he never even really thought of Barb as big, it was mainly Tommy and Carol that ever bullied people for things like that. Yet he realized he wasn’t much better never even realizing her when he knew most of her grade because of Nancy. The size didn’t matter to him, but if he didn’t like her and started bringing her around wouldn’t that be just like using her?
a/n: if this is a story you guys would be interested in plz let me know, I am also aware I have not finished my Rooster Series yet but I do have the outlines for the remaining chapters so I wanted to get a head start on this. I think the concept would be cute and I’m a sucker for the fact I think Steve Harrington would be all about plus size girls. I think this could be a cute short little series <3

Beetlebabes dni (seriously fuck off)
So, my current hyperfixation is Beetlejuice, movie, cartoon, and musical. But I have all the Beetlejuice cartoons on file so as I was watching, I decided to redesign Lydia and Beej in the show’s style for my own fic I’m working on. I added silhouettes of the show’s designs as a comparison. And I finalized my OC as a bonus. So here’s some info about Bj and Lydia. I’ll explain my OC some other time.
Beetlejuice:
I used all iterations of him as inspiration, but in terms of visual, it’s mostly the musical and cartoon. Gave him his green hair and also a mullet cause... Idk I think it looks good. But in terms of personality, it’s a nice combo of all three. He’s a lot more nastier and violent than his toon counterpart, but still retains some of the sensitivity showed in the show. For example, he’s still protective of Lydia, but instead of simply putting beetles in a bully’s hair, he’ll genuinely traumatize them with a scare or straight up try and kill them. He’s still a handsy and overtly sexual being like in the movie/musical. Instead of responding to emotional rejection (outside of flirtatious contexts) with a depressive episode like the show, he gets very angry and vengeful. He’s petty, selfish and a conniving ass like all three iterations. But he’s not as dumb as his toon counterpart. He’s irrational and acts before he thinks sure, but when it comes to being a trickster, he’s more thoughtful and malicious like the movie version.
His relationship with Lydia is a big brother/little sister type. She’s one of the very select few who’s ever gotten past his walls. He’s protective of her and always encourages her interests in the gross, rude, and dead. But he’s less affectionate than the show/musical. He’s not a big fan of pda and just barely tolerates her occasional hug. He and Lydia are the type of friends that exchange insults and petty barbs as a way of showing how they care.
A brief note on his most common alter ego, Bettyjuice. I modernized her into an egirl because the aesthetic is perfect with all the stripes. She’s pretty much the same as the show; gross, rude, and impulsive. But I made her too pretty unfortunately. I kept leaning towards cute with certain attributes like the added beanie and her adorable tummy, so that’ll probably be tweaked in the future, but we’ll see. I do like this design a lot even though it’s not gross enough.
Lydia:
Again, all iterations were an inspiration. Her Netherworld design is just a more aged up version of the original poncho, but I added a touch more purple at the forefront to reflect her personality. And her normal design is more muted just as a contrast to the Netherworld to make it seem mundane in comparison. In terms of personality, she’s got the character development of the musical. She’s still deadpanned and sarcastic like the movie/musical, but she’s much softer and more sweet like her toon counterpart. She’s a little more mature now that she’s 18, but not by much cause she’s still a young, developing girl. She only has a few friends her age since most of her peers at school are put off by her goth aesthetic and macabre interests. It also doesn’t help that she hangs around a weird egirl who likes to throw bugs at people (Bettyjuice of course). She does have two friends, Becca and Pamela (loosely based off Bertha and Prudence) and of course, her family. She still loves the Maitlands and hangs out with them a bunch. She has a better relationship with Charles Deetz now that she’s a little older. The one she has conflict the most is Deelia, but there’s still clear love there. She fully accepts Deelia as her mother now, while, of course, still keeping Emily Deetz in her heart as well. But they tend to bicker and argue the most because of their different worldviews, but much less so than before now that Lydia regularly spends time in the Nethworld.
But of course, Lydia’s best friend is Beetlejuice. They pull pranks, get into mischief, and regularly get revenge on Lydia’s main bully Claire Brewster.
But yeah, that’s it. I’ll explain my OC later, but I’m too tired rn. I’m working on some more art for Beetlejuice, but the main inspo is the cartoon since it has a lot more to work with in terms of story and world building.

Bio:
Gideon Gorelieu was born almost nothing to a pair of indentured servants in French Louisiana: his father repaired the local magnate's fishing fleet, his mother a maid in one of the minor sugar baron's households. he watched his two older brothers die in a hurricane that wreaked horror on their coastal community, and his younger brother never lived past childhood –– dead of sickness and starvation, and his mother died of grief soon after. with a decent knowledge of fishing boats and weather patterns, he took to sea on a merchant vessel as a green hand, but showed promise and eventually made his way up through the ranks. as an officer, he was instrumental in staging a mutiny against their captain, and the ship became a profitable smuggling operation rather than a legal merchant ship. with her dark grey sails and unique capacity for escaping the notice of the law amongst the sandbars and coves, the schooner took a new name: La Petite Revenante.
for a while, Gideon bent his head to the new captain, but in an outburst of his soon to be infamous temper, killed his only competition in a duel of honor. when they put to sea again, he raised the prospect of piracy: any dissenters had their throats slit and were tossed to the sharks, leaving only the most merciless, and callus, among them. after a few minor prizes, cutting their teeth as buccaneers and filling out their ranks, Captain Gorelieu set his sights on a Spanish frigate. the revenante's crew swarmed aboard, and slaughtered almost every single man, leaving only a few to swim ashore and tell the tale of the newly-named CAPTAIN BARTHOLOMEW GORE.
Gore rapidly became a successful pirate with his flagship, La Tuerie, in his command, taking several prizes that he allocated to the command of his officers and building out a sizeable fleet. the Louisiana governor, wishing to keep Gore as an ally rather than an enemy, offered him a commission as a privateer, a plot of land, and some political influence if in exchange he would show mercy to the colony and share his ill-gotten wealth with them instead of elsewhere. Gore could not refuse, and began construction on the place which put fear into the hearts of all those enslaved and indentured who worked on it: Bloodmere Manor. to separate the privateer who now lived in privilege and wealth ( and hard won fear and respect ) in New Orleans from the bloodthirsty pirate captain, Gore occasionally used the name Roberts in other ports like Nassau, Port Royal, and Havana, but the people of Louisiana always attributed the stories of bloodshed to their own captain.
on one of his returns to New Orleans to check on the progress of his new mansion, Gore dined with the governor and a few of the city's socialites and was introduced to Miss Priscilla de Claire, a lovely, innocent nineteen year old heiress who –– kept in the dark about Gore's piratical exploits –– was charmed by the older captain who could be most gentlemanlike when he wanted to be. he began courting her, swaying her with expensive gifts and endless attention, and the two were set to be married as soon as the manor was finished. Gorelieu began integrating himself more completely into landed society and into his role as a plantation owner, befriending the de Claire's and most of the other New Orleans families with a by-and-by more polished exterior. but by night, he drank heavily, and every time he closed his eyes began to be haunted by the faceless masses he had put to the sword.
on the very night they were wed, Gorelieu hosted the de Claire's and other prominent families in the richly-decorated mansion, but while he entertained his in-laws, Priscilla snuck off alone to explore her new home. in the basement, she discovered a chest full of relics of his pirate's life: weapons, and maps, and worst of all, the bones of his enemies, kept like souvenirs and not all of them cleaned. she confronted Gore, horrified, threatening to have their marriage annulled. Gore was incensed. ( alongside the loss of his love, he stood to lose her dowry, too ) in a fit of rage, he dashed his bride's head against the wall, and bricked her body up in it.
while the de Claire's searched the bayou endlessly for their missing daughter, assuming she had balked from married life and fled the obligations of becoming his bride, Priscilla ensured her husband could not enjoy his newfound wealth, or find any peace in the expansive house: her ghost tormented him to madness, until he fled again to sea ( hoping to escape some suspicion, as well ). but he found no respite from his bride, there, either, and the visions followed him until –– his ears filled with endless screams –– he hung himself from the yardarm, a ghostly specter on a ship of death, leaving the mansion empty of everything but ghosts.

Lucienne Bréval (4 November 1869 in Zürich – 15 August 1935 in Neuilly-sur-Seine) was a Swiss dramatic soprano who had a major international opera career from 1892-1918. Although she appeared throughout Europe and in the United States, Bréval spent most of her career performing with the Paris Opera where she became a greatly admired interpreter of French grand opera roles and Wagner heroines. She also specialized in the works of Gluck and Rameau, becoming particularly associated with the title roles in Gluck’s Armide and Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie. A favorite of the composers of her day, such as Massenet and Dukas, Bréval sang in numerous world premières during her career. Born with the name Bertha Agnès Lisette Schilling, Bréval initially studied to be a pianist at Lausanne and briefly in Geneva before deciding to pursue an opera career She studied voice with Victor Warot at the Paris Conservatoire before making her debut at the Paris Opera in 1892 as Selika in l'Africaine by Giacomo Meyerbeer. Bréval became a principal soprano at the Paris Opéra and remained there until 1919. Her roles with the company included several world premières including Augusta Holmès's La Montagne Noire (1895), Camille Erlanger's Le fils de l' étoile (1904), Dukas’ Ariane et Barbe-bleue (1907), Massenet's Bacchus (1909), and the title roles in Massenet's Ariane (1906) and Henry Février’s Monna Vanna (1909). She also was Kundry in France's first performance of Wagner's Parsifal (1914). Her other notable roles at the Paris Opera included Brünnhilde in Richard Wagner's Die Walküre (1893), Venus in Wagner's Tannhäuser (1895), Marguerite in Hector Berlioz's La damnation de Faust (1897), and the title role in Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie (1908). Bréval also occasionally appeared in productions at the Opéra-Comique in Paris. Most notably she portrayed the title role in the world premiere of Massenet’s Grisélidis in 1901, and in 1910 she sang Lady Macbeth in the première of Ernst Bloch’s Macbeth, which he dedicated to her.In 1899, Bréval made her first appearance at the Royal Opera, Covent Garden as Valentine in Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots. Two years later she made her American début at the Metropolitan Opera as Chimène in Le Cid, singing also in Die Walküre and the American première of Ernest Reyer’s Salammbô. Five years later she returned to Covent Garden for the second and last time in the title role of Gluck’s Armide. In 1913 she created the title role in Fauré’s Pénélope at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo; her other title roles there had been in Isidore De Lara's Amy Robsart and in Bizet's Carmen. Throughout her career Bréval appeared in recitals and concerts throughout Europe, including performances in Italy, England, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland and throughout France. In spite of her great reputation in Europe she was not as well received in America as critics believed her singing lacked polish and described her acting as "semaphoric". After her retirement from the stage in 1919, Bréval taught singing in Paris. The only sound recording of Bréval singing was made on a Mapleson cylinder during a performance of L’Africaine at the Metropolitan Opera.

actually this is still annoying me how are u going to be incapable of empathizing with a fictional disabled woman being problematic because she’s being abused horribly then just go ahead and be very active in the Books About A Bunch Of Disabled People fandom
I hate when my baby fandoms cross over bc how are u an Annie stan but a Bertha anti like the call is coming from inside the house

Kandi, get your mama! Source: Monica Schipper/Bravo via Getty Images Kandi‘s barb-spewing mother Joyce Jones aka Mama Joyce is catching heat over shady comments she made about her son-in-law Todd Tucker during a messy panel with Auntie Bertha and Auntie Nora at BravoCon. In the now viral clip, Mama Joyce, 72, shamelessly rambles about who she would replace Todd with while the crowd hoots and…

how long had they been down here in this dingy little room? an hour? two? few weeks maybe? shit -- takeshi's lost track of time. not because he's trapped, nah nah nah -- way better than that. and sure, takeshi could just say who he's got down here, but where's the fun in that? a swift kick to the ribs has a VERY special guest trying to curl up into a ball, rolling onto his back exposing a face beaten and bloody, barely recognizable. but takeshi knows exactly who it is -- peers down at the man with a look that can only be described as unbridled EXCITEMENT.
❝ havin' fun down there? ❞ the question is posed innocently, as if takeshi hasn't beaten him within an inch of his life every day for the last week. ❝ thought y' would be -- honestly. thought ya'd be so damn excited fer th' opportunity t' have a lil' role reversal. how many times was i down there till ya broke me in, huh? ten? twelve? ❞ the memories flash through his mind and once, they had caused takeshi pain. the begging, the pleading for him to stop -- i-i'll be better seunghyun, please jus' stop! please i -- i won't fuck up again! he remembers crying, curled up in a ball -- tears staining his face as he cried to his dead mother, like that bitch would be able to save him from his fate. prayed to his father -- like that coward had ever thought about anyone other than himself in his fuckin' life.
but now? shit -- those are fond memories, shit for the spank bank, yeah? seunghyun had gotten exactly what he wanted, putting takeshi through that shit. he'd broken him -- or at least that's what he'd say. nah, takeshi came out stronger, determined -- nothin' could fuckin' touch him now -- he was unstoppable.
and it's all thanks to seunghyun.
❝ should thank ya, really. if ya didn't do tha' -- well, fuck, who knows what would've happened. prob'ly still be me down there, huh? but i ain't yer fuckin' bitch anymore, seungie. m' better than ya -- always have been. jus' took some time fer me ta realize. ❞ he sneers, gathering a glob of spit in his mouth before lobbing it at the pathetic excuse of a man on the ground.
takeshi barely registers the sound of a door opening, heavy footsteps coming up behind him and a large hand sprawling itself across his back. takeshi knows who it is without even looking behind him, hums softly -- almost like he's content now that sukuna's here. ❝ here ta watch th' show, baby? ain't even started th' best part yet. was waitin' fer ya-- ❞ he doesn't give sukuna a chance to reply, doesn't feel like he needs to. sukuna knows that this is takeshi's moment -- knows just how long he's waited to do this. hell, the only reason the two of them had met had been because of takeshi finally putting his plan into action.
he steps off to the side to grab bertha. takeshi eyes the bat like it's some kind of long lost lover. she's gotten him through a lot -- feels some sorta connection to the thing. sure, it's just a bat -- there are other weapons that would be far more effective, but bertha ain't just any weapon, yanno? she's a special lady -- only the best for her!
takeshi casts his gaze down toward seunghyun again, watches with a bored expression as he tries to stand. he's kneeling, one foot flat on the ground, his hands braced on his leg as he tries to find the strength to stand. s'cute, really. that he thinks he has a chance of actually getting out of this alive, that he's still got some fight in him yet. but that's fine, let 'em think that -- takeshi'll beat that shit outta him in no time at all.
he swings bertha 'round once, twice, a third time before raising it above his head and swinging it down, a sick rush of adrenaline rushing through him as the barbs dig themselves into the flesh of seunghyun's calf. seunghyun screams, and all takeshi can do is laugh as he drags the bat back, watching as the flesh rips open and blood pours from the wounds. ❝ know yer fuckin' place -- seungie. trash stays right fuckin' there-- ❞ a kick to the other's side sends him toppling to the ground once again, and oh, takeshi can hear him sobbing and it's like music to his fuckin' ears. takeshi draws the bat back once again, letting it connect with the other's stomach and damn near MOANING at the blood splattering over his face and hands. seunghyun coughs, choking on his own blood that's pooling in his mouth.
❝ s'been so good havin' ya here , seungie. but yer jus' kinda borin' now -- yanno? ❞ a step forward, grin widening as seunghyun starts gargling out something -- begging, maybe? he looks scared enough. another step and he's trying to distance himself from takeshi, like that'll do him any good. ❝ i ain't got any use fer ya now. remember what ya taught me? if it ain't worth nothin' -- get rid of it. ❞ a sinister smile, as he catches seunghyun's gaze. takeshi looks behind him for a moment, sees the look on sukuna's face and oh -- he can tell, without a shadow of a fuckin' doubt that he's enjoying just as much as takeshi -- maybe even more. he's stood a few feet away, leaning against the wall lookin' every bit as handsome as ever. ❝ whaddya think, baby? should i put 'em outta his misery? ❞ an innocent look, like he's asking sukuna his opinion on what outfit he should wear for a night out. but sukuna's response is every bit as exciting as takeshi had hoped it would be. of course it was! god -- they were fuckin' perfect for each other, huh? real match made in hell--
show no mercy. he doesn't deserve it.
takeshi laughs as he turns back to the poor excuse of a man before him. ❝ hear tha'? i don't think sukuna likes ya too much -- tch, unlucky. ❞ takeshi closes what little distance there is between the two of them, fucks around by tapping seunghyun's forehead with the end of the bat, a pained ground as the barbed wire pierces the skin there. ❝ life's a game -- yeah? y' win some an' y' lose some. shame tha' ya lost. ❞ takeshi lines bertha up again, aiming for seunghyun's skull, taking a second to really appreciate the way he looks all beaten and bruised.
❝ 死ね-- ❞

David "Dave" G. Atherton Sr.
David "Dave" G. Atherton Sr., a resident of Riverstreet Manor since May, 2019, passed away Monday, Feb. 8, 2021.
Dave was born Nov. 6, 1948, and was the son of the late Glenn and Emma Jean Jackson Atherton. Dave was employed as a lawn maintenance worker and retired in 2012 from Varsity Lawncare.
Dave is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lois Lord Atherton; son, David (Ann Marie); and daughters, Rebecca and Amy; grandchildren, Greggory (little guy), Tanisha, Temira and Jordan. He is also survived by a brother, James (Linda); and sisters, Caroline (Charles), Bertha and Donna. Also surviving are in-laws, Sandy "Shorty," Arthur (Dianne), Judy (John), Greg (Cheryl) and Mervin (Barb); and his special cousins, Ann Marie, Donald and Donnie. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Dave enjoyed hunting (or as the family would say, taking his gun for a walk in the woods), going on vacation to beach with friends and was always the first one to shovel snow, mow lawns and help other people.
The family would like to thank their long time neighbors and friends for all they do for us, Tom and Diane, Petey, Jack and Maureen and Tom and Joyce. He will also be missed by his special friends, Foggy and Pat, Jeanie and Bub, Sue and Mike and Doyle (drinking buddy).
A special thank you goes out to his special "Angels," Noelle, Vickey "Like Mickey" and Angie. He also had other "Angels," Sal, KC, Jaimie, Amy, Tracy, Loriel and Diane. They all treated him with love and compassion, even when he was being difficult due to his illness.
A walk-through visitation for those who feel comfortable and wish to attend will be held at 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday at Hugh B. Hughes & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with a service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. James Quinn officiating.
The interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Pikes Creek.
Masks and social distancing will be strictly adhered to as well as funeral home capacity. Wear your jeans or very casual clothes as Dave detested suits and dressing up.
