i think my least favorite current ""feminist"" talking point is that modern misogyny "encourages" women to be masculine or man-like in order to succeed like. be real do you actually think people out there want masculine women. or is your definition of masculine women just wearing a ~womens~ blazer over a blouse and skirt like come on
#(image of Lydia from breaking bad) this is the butchest woman pop feminism can handle before it starts getting scared#tbh i would describe that style as more like#subdued feminine#i'm not really knowledgeable on fashion wrt theory but#my immediate thought is that that sort of fashion's ideological bent is not really for women to be masculine but#for them to not stand out too much among men while still having femininity enforced#but take that with a grain of salt i'm not a fashion person

Hottest Drummer Tournament Round 1
Alex Bent
Band(s): Trivium // Brain Drill // Dragonlord // Battlecross // Arkaik
Albums/EPs as drummer:
The Sin and the Sentence (Trivium) What the Dead Men Say (Trivium) In the Court of the Dragon (Trivium)
Boundless Obscenity (Brain Drill)
Dominion (Dragonlord)
Rise to Power (Battlecross)
Metamorphignition (Arkaik)
Propaganda:
It’s generally agreed that he’s the best drummer Trivium’s had. It’s really amazing to watch him play.
Micky Dolenz
Band(s): The Monkees
Albums/EPs as drummer:
(Micky has a ton of solo albums that are kind of hard to find information about. Since he does more than just drum, it would take a lot of time to figure out what he does and doesn’t drum on. There’s a really good chance something’s missing here, I’ll fully admit that and I’m sorry)
Headquarters (The Monkees) - drums on tracks 1, 3-8, 10, and 12-14 Justus (The Monkees)
Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart (Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart)
Propaganda:
He's such a goofball, but at the same time he's so smart. He can play all sorts of instruments- from drums to synthesizers to who knows what else- is interested in science, and has plenty of acting experience, before, during and after the Monkees. He also seems like an odd mix of Keith Moon and Nick Mason, in the sense that he was the most wild of the Monkees and did a lot of crazy antics, but was also the one who stayed the whole way through and who got along best with everyone. Plus, in my opinion he's a cutie no matter how young or old he is.

Flynn likes to be involved with everything I do. If he sees me crouch down to look at something &/or pick it up, he likes to come & inspect it as well. In case it's interesting. Or edible. Or both.
In this case, I'd found a fossil. According to Flynn this falls in the "Not Interesting" category but he gave it a polite sniff all the same. Like I politely praise him when he finds & shows me puddles & molehills. We humour each other.
Such a teeny tiny fossil! It's one of the smallest I've found. Probably at least 420 million years old, which is just completely wild.
#I've got a fair sized collection of fossils now#mostly either brachiopods - which look like bi-valve molluscs but aren't... & corals#some of the shell fossils are very well preserved & almost look like they came off a beach that day!#I find them on farmland - ploughing turns the soil & they pop up to the surface. also there are 1 or 2 old quarries in the woods#this one was on the footpath - I bent down to pick up Flynn's toy & spotted it#silurian#fossil#shell#england#dog#flynn

You know you go through a show and you kinda don't like how the declared 'handsome/pretty' character looks?? (Only me?)

i have said this about other songs before and this one is literally on my playlist but. this is the most twelfth doctor song in the universe. i know it’s about the buddy holly plane crash symbolising the end of the golden age of american music or whatever but TO ME. to me miss american pie is clara in her diner. ‘this will be the day that i die.’ the verse about the jester overthrowing the king. weird religious imagery. do you believe in rock and roll can music save your mortal soul. i know that you’re in love with him (danny) cause i saw you dancing in the (coal hill) gym. a generation lost in space with no time left to start again. jack be nimble jack be quick. etc etc
#it’s eight minutes long or however. and it’s the epitome of renowned and established pop that on first glance feels#superficial but is filled with esoteric lyrics that comment on the end of an era. and stuff#basically i am not insane . <-lie#twelfth doctor#twelve#peter capaldi#twelveclara#clara oswald#hell bent#doctor who series 9#jamie.txt#dw#doctor who#eardrums

I got these shoes from someone recently but thought they were way too plain looking, so I set out on a quest to customize them with some sharpies and charms and miscellaneous ribbon I had in my craft drawers. Mostly sky themed (clouds, rainbows, rain, stars, etc.) because that's my favorite aesthetic, but I had to include some cat imagery as well, of course lol.
#also honestly had NO IDEA that real converse have that star logo on the INSIDE not the outer part??? why the hell would you want it on the#inner portion where nobody can see it?? my entire life I always would have sworn it was on the outer facing portion..#I think these would be perfect IF they were just slightly taller (top part higher above ankles instead of just weird hard material digging#right into your ankle whenever you walk) and if they were actual good platforms. they're so short. It's good that 'chunky' shoes are gettin#more popular as they've always been my favorite Look ever since I had these shoes with roller skates that pop out of thebottom (not heelys.#but like. before those. it was two whole entire roller skate wheels like a normal pair of roller skates) and the bottoms were so tall and#clunky and it made my feet look giant (because it had.. entire wheels in the bottom pockets lol). so#I've alwatys been into the aesthetic but . still I find a lot of the 'brands jumping on trend' are too short of platforms#OR they're plafrorms with a raised back/heel/wedge which to me is not aesthetically good and also makes them exceptionally uncomfortable to#wear compared to just plain completely flat chunky platform bottoms. ANYWAY.. if these shoes had a 3 or 4 inch platform I think they'd be#cooler. however for what they are it's still fine! and I like them more now that they actually have some sort of anything to them and#aren't just plain white. The weird thing is that the material it's made out of (maybe some sort of leather or something) absorbs sharpie?#the color changes over time. You draw a mark and then leave it for a few days and it either fades into being barely there or has changed#colors. so I had to go back in and redo parts. ALSO the shoe chains are so funny because I did NOT have the right tools for them#I don't have the stuff to make bracelets or open and close the little rings. they're held onto the shoe with just safety pins and the actua#little rung things that hold the charms on half of them are like broken or the metal is just jam smushed together bent and warped hhbjhjhb#I actually like the back a lot where there's the irridecent star thing hot glued on there. it's cool and shiny. and the clouds#are sparkly on the main parts of the shoe though I'm not sure how well it shows up in pictures#ANYWAY... shoegs..... If I were rich this is one of the things I would definitely custom order from craftsman#why would I spend like thousands of dollars on plain ass shoes that are just expensive because they're a Luxury Brand when I could literall#like pay people to create me custom shoes to my exact specifications?? I could have like 5 inch flat platform boots with fur andclouds#and cat shaped holes in the bottom with LEDs in them with pom pom and charms and etc. etc. etc. Like as gaudy and excessively over#decorated as I want lol.. AND they could have skates in the bottom somehow!! ghjgbhjb#this on top of all the custom wizard costumes and period clothing I would order.. Like i LOVE customizing things. I love everything in my l#life being as particualr as possible and cultivating every experience I have to meticulously meet my own specific criteria as much#as is possible. If I had the money to I would never buy something from a store again. EVERYTHING I owned from furniture to clothing#would be either made by me - or mostly - comissioned from craftsmen. custom tiles for my floors. custom bed. custom table.#even like. custom toilet. custom sinks. etc. etc. ouGGH... but yeah.. anyway... shoes..

I get most people only care about the singularity for memes and don't appreciate his character at all... and he is just a fictional character.... but wow I hate it so much when people call hux, the "transgender allegory" killer, by the wrong pronouns.
He is NOT an "it." his lore literally mentions him changing his pronouns from the ones he was given by humans to ones HE personally identifies with.
the transgender themes are not subtle at all, in any of his lore. there is even a scene in the archives in which he injects himself with genetic material in order to create his "perfect form."
how much clearer can they get without slapping a fucking pride flag on his face?
#dbd#hux a7 13#thoughts about media#I love hux with my entire heart. and if you do not? well that's not my failure to fix.#but show my man some fucking respect!#he's one of the cooler original killers!!! I like that they took the typical “evil AI bent on destroying humanity” sci fi character-#-and did something different with the idea!#also he has the most graphic mori in the entire game. one that actually makes survivors afraid to be caught.#there really is nothing quite so satisfying as finally catching the little gnat of a survivor who's been annoying you-#-and popping their fucking face right open.#he's got the juice that turns the ordinary- extraordinary! fruit gushers baby ;)#all dbd fans know is how to dick ride felix and vittorio though so I do NOT know why I ever expect better.

Poetic references in pop culture
After having discussed poetry and songs and lyric poetry, we can see how certain poetic elements have seemed to find their way in pop culture. The target audiences for poetry and pop culture might have been considered to be different in earlier times but now they tend to overlap. What earlier used to be limited to the field of literature is now, often used as an aesthetic in films, music, etc. I also feel that, while it expands poetry as a domain and exposes new people to it, it also, in some ways, loses its value when it is brought down to stand as a mere aesthetic that people use as captions for their social media posts. Nonetheless, we get to see poetry making its cameo in pop culture many a times.
Starting with something very closely linked to poetry- songs and lyrics. Many artists and songwriters tend to have a poetic style of writing. Now, of course, not all lyrics and songs can amount to being termed as poetry, but some can. Hozier would be my first prime example for this. His deep and poetic lyrics tend to reflect a strong sense of writing, which at the same time also get entangled with the aesthetic of pop culture. The deep complexities and metaphors, and euphemisms in his lyrics may not be understood by all which can make the listeners interpret their meaning in some other way. Songs like “Cherry Wine” and “Eat Your Young” talk about social issues but due to their interpretation in pop culture, their meanings have come down to revolve around the subject of love and relationships. While, at the same time, there is no denying that Hozier also makes love songs. However, a song like “Eat Your Young”, which serves as, what some might say, a “protest song”, based on political greed and the exploitation of younger generations, should not be reduced to merely having a sexual connotation to it. The song also references the classic Anglo-Irish writer, Jonathan Swift and his essay, “A Modest Proposal”, a famous protest against the British treatment of Ireland. This shows how poetry can get lost while serving to the whims and the fancies of pop culture. I also happened to stumble across this one blog on Tumblr, which adds more to this Hozier argument. I’ll attach a link for a clearer understanding.
Taking up a few more examples from music, particularly pop music, only recently we saw Taylor Swift release her 11th studio album, titled "The Tortured Poets Department”. Now the name in itself carries the essence of poetry. As a fan, of course my opinion would differ from the critiques or someone who’s not a fan, nonetheless, I enjoyed the album while also being aware of its different aspects that I did not enjoy as much. Particularly talking about “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology” I clearly saw more of the poetic edge to the album here, rather than on the standard version. Swift is inarguably one of the best songwriters of all time and there have been instances where she has written actual poems, or has poems turned into songs. Her other albums, particularly, “folklore” and “evermore” also carry the poetic side of Swift. Lyrics like,
“Now you hang from my lips, like the gardens of Babylon.
With your boots beneath my bed, forever is the sweetest con”
-Ivy, evermore
Or
“Take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die
I don’t belong, but my beloved neither do you
Those Windermere peaks look like the perfect place to cry
I’m signing off but not without my muse, no, not without you”
-The Lakes, folklore
…carry a heavy whiff of poetry and a poetic style of writing. When songs with such lyrics are consumed by a wide audience, the audience naturally looks into its deeper meanings. In reference to Taylor Swift and her widely spread fanbase, Swifties, who are known to speculate her work with full intensity and dedication, will of course be opened to a whole new world of poets and poetry through their consumption of pop culture. Taylor Swift also has quite a few self-written poems, namely, “Why She Disappeared”, and “If you’re anything like me”.
Speaking of pop artists and their poetry, we can not move on without mentioning Lana Del Rey. Apart from her complex lyricism, Lana, also has a poetry book called "Violet Bent Backwards over the Grass”. Lana Del Rey is not only celebrated as an artist, but has developed a whole aesthetic around her, which her poetic footprints follow. She has a huge impact on pop culture and is known to bring in a whole Sylvia Plath vibe to her work. People usually draw comparisons between the two. One of my favorite poems by Lana Del Rey, would have to be “Sportcruiser”:
“All of this circumnavigating the earth
Was to get back to my life
Six trips to the moon for my poetry to arise
I'm not a captain
I'm not a pilot
I write
I write”
Apart from music, poetry has been reflected in films as well. For an example, I would like to mention my favourite movie of all time, “Dead Poet’s Society”. From a dark academia aesthetic to Walt Whitman references, and the famous “Oh Captain! My Captain!” line, draws in interest from poetry and literature enthusiasts. I personally, started exploring Walt Whitman after I watched the movie. Shows such as “Dickinson” which revolves around the life of the famous poet, Emily Dickinson, also bring poetry to pop culture. Such shows also help bring out the sides of poets and their work which could not be revealed back in their times due to the society’s conservative nature.
Apart from movies centred around poetic or literature themes, many shows or films reference poems or poets in dialogues, arising the viewer’s curiosity. The movie “Maurice” has a dialogue, “I am an unspeakable of the Oscar Wilde sort.” which references the famous poet/author, Oscar Wilde, particularly dealing with the theme of homosexuality. Adaptations of classics, such as “Pride and Prejudice”, or “Little Women” also finds literature being introduced to pop culture. However, at the same time, such adaptations can also sometimes misrepresent these classics, which is usually called out by the literature enthusiasts, showing an interaction between two crowds and an integration of literature into pop culture. One of the recent examples, we can find is when Netflix announced the adaptation of “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde. (my favorite book of all time) Like many other, I, too, was disappointed to find out about the queer erasure done by Netflix by establishing a familial relationship between two characters: Dorian and Basil, who clearly have a romantic one in the original story, in the book.
Moreover, ever since social media came into the picture, poetry has been widely spread across pop culture. With poets like, Rupi Kaur, making their debut on talk shows like, “The Tonight Show With, Jimmy Fallon” and going on tours and various poetry related social media accounts taking over, the extent of integration of poetry with pop culture has been quite large and has changed the way people consume and create poetry, with specific emphasis on spoken poetry. What’s most interesting to note here is that the impact of this integration has not been one sided. Pop culture too has been shaped immensely through the introduction of poetry and other literature related themes, especially in the way it references, creates, and presents its content.
