Mostly Mezzo Mondays: a recurring (though not weekly) feature where, on Monday nights, I blog a list of the upcoming broadcasts that have caught my eye on World Concert Hall. My interests: baroque vocal music, art song recitals, and a list of favorite singers.

Emőke Baráth and Philippe Jaroussky combine forces with the Ensemble Artaserse for a concert of Handel arias and concerti. Live broadcast Thursday, September 13 on Bartók Rádió.

Véronique Gens sings Berlioz’ Les nuits d’été as part of a concert by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. Thursday, September 13 on RÁS 1.

If you were well impressed by Patricia Bardon in Giulio Cesare this past summer, you might like to try her in some Mahler. Along with Orla Boylan, she she sings in a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, Resurrection, scheduled for live broadcast Friday, September 14 on RTÉ Lyric FM. 

Sunhae Im is the only name I recognize offhand on the roster for this performance of Handel’s Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno, but she’s a good one. Her fellow vocal soloists are Robin Johannsen, Benno Schachtner, and Thomas Walker. This concert by the Freiburger Barockorchester is apparently going to be video-livestreamed on Culturebox, although World Concert Hall says “Live worldwide webcast to be confirmed.” If it happens, it will be Saturday, September 15 on Culturebox.

The wonderful Sandrine Piau is among the soloists for a concert of lesser-known Mozart works with accentus and the Insula orchestra. Laurence Equilbey conducts. Sunday, September 16 on France Musique.

Mostly Mezzo Mondays: a recurring (though not weekly) feature where, on Monday nights, I blog a list of the upcoming broadcasts that have caught my eye on World Concert Hall. My interests: baroque vocal music, art song recitals, and a list of favorite singers.

The list is short this week, but right up my alley.

Sarah Connolly sings works by Johannes Brahms, Gustav Mahler (Kindertotenlieder), Ivor Gurney, Richard Rodney Bennett (A History of the Thé Dansant), and Frank Bridge in a recital with Malcolm Martineau and Jonathan Brown. Recorded at last August’s Schubertíada in the town of Vilabertran, Catalunya. Friday, November 23 on Catalunya Música.

The current production of Handel’s Teseo at the Theater an der Wien stars Gaelle Arquez, Christophe Dumaux, Lena Belkina, Mari Eriksmoen, Robin Johannsen, Benno Schachtner, and Soula Parassidis. René Jacobs conducts the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. Deferred broadcast Saturday, November 24 on Ö1.

Mostly Mezzo Mondays: Sampson in Schumann and Bach; Cargill in Elgar

Mostly Mezzo Mondays: a recurring (though not weekly) feature where, on Monday nights, I blog a list of the upcoming broadcasts that have caught my eye on World Concert Hall. My interests: baroque vocal music, art song recitals, and a list of favorite singers.

Carolyn Sampson singing Schumann and Bach? A good bet for a strong performance in my book. The other vocal soloists are Benno Schachtner, Werner Güra, Jonathan Sells, and Cornelius Uhle. The Helsinki Baroque Orchestra is joined by their Baltic neighbors, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. Wednesday, September 27 on Yle Radio 1.

Karen Cargill is on quite a roll of concert broadcasts this year. Next up: Cargill sings Elgar’s Sea Pictures with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Thursday, September 28 on BBC Radio 3 (should be archived for about a month afterward).

Ahir tenia lloc a la sala Philharmonie de Berlín, mentre al Teatre Schiller es representava el Parsifal infernemlander, un concert amb la impressionant Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin i l’imponent RIAS Kammerchor, dirigits per René Jacobs en el que es va erigir una de les catedrals musicals per excel·lència, la Passió segons Sant Joan de J.S.Bach.
