It was a rare time that Benjamin was able to have a night out with his friends, and since you had to work late, you insisted he go. He didn’t like the idea of you coming home to an empty apartment, but you assured him over and over again that you would be fine. As much as you loved him, it was important for you that he spent time with his friends as well, since neither of you had many other people in your lives.

The apartment was silent as you expected when you finally made it home. Though you were bummed that Benjamin wasn’t there to greet you, a picture text of him and his friends told you he was enjoying himself. For that, you were grateful. So, you decided to strip the day away and enjoy some alone time in a warm bath.

You weren’t sure how long you were in there, but the water was cold by the time you finally got out, so it had to have been a while. After you stood and towel dried, you crossed the space into your bedroom where your phone sat, and before you put anything on, an idea popped into your head. With a smirk, you picked up your phone and used your arm to push your breasts up and angled yourself just right. “Are you sure about this, Benji?” you asked in a hushed tone as you let your boyfriend lead you up the staircase.

“Don’t worry,” he looked over his shoulder at you with a smile, “I got you,” Benjamin gave your hand a squeeze before he turned back around and the two of you reached the top of the staircase.

Benjamin had the most romantic New Year’s weekend planned, and every surprise took your breath away. He booked a classy hotel right in the middle of the city, and the room was absolutely stunning. The bed was so soft, you almost fell asleep the instant you flopped down, and the bathtub was bigger than your entire bathroom at home. And while the view from your room was great, Benjamin promised you a better view from the roof.

A cold breeze hit your face once he opened the door to the roof and you let out a gasp.

Benjamin let out a hearty laugh, “Don’t worry, we’ll be fine,” he cupped your chin and tiled your face to meet his gaze. The lights from the city reflected in his dark eyes and his smile lit up his face as he looked at you.

Just as you were about to say something, a loud boom made you jump into Benjamin’s arms and scream loudly. He immediately held you tight and close to his chest, but he also couldn’t help the laughter as the fireworks startled you.

“I lost track of time, sorry love,” he murmured against you, “The fireworks are the best, and this way we can avoid the crowds.”

Once you realized that it was just the fireworks that the city lit off just before midnight, you relaxed, but you stayed in Benjamin’s safe embrace. You turned your gaze to watch the show as you leaned against his shoulder, “Wow…it’s so beautiful!” you breathed.

“Yeah,” Benji echoed while his eyes never left yours.

“And make our own fireworks?” you replied with a smirk and a gleam in your eyes.

“Now who has the cheesy lines?” Benjamin quipped back with a laugh, which you joined in.

Giggles erupted between you like the fireworks that lit up the sky behind you, but neither of you bothered to pay attention to the light show anymore. What was in front of you was worth more of your attention than the lights in the sky. Benjamin kept his arms around you and pulled you as close as possible as he kissed you once more. His tongue immediately poked at your lips in a wordless ask for permission, which you granted right away. 

Your heart pounded in your chest as you felt his large hands roam all over your back while his tongue played with yours. Suddenly, the need for him was too great and you whispered, “Let’s get out of here.”

Benjamin’s face lit up with a smile once more as he slipped his hand into yours and let you lead the way back down to your room. Once you reached your floor and pushed your way inside and into the warmth, you pulled Benjamin close again for another heated kiss.

A low rumble of laughter escaped his lips as you both fumbled clumsily down the hall and to your door. One of the good things Golddigger did (don't throw bricks at me for complementing something about it 😂) is that the show for better or worse decided that Benjamin and Julia's relationship should be for their own sakes. Benjamin wanted someone stable and established and the matron persona was something he found safe. Julia has been a caretaker all her life but needs someone who is going to appreciate those actions and isn't a spoiled brat like her other kids so Benjamin worked for her. They have their issues and that relationship has a lot of loose ends that never got addressed in the movie, but I did appreciate how they showed two people trying to create a new and unconventional family unit for themselves

I loved Gold Digger, don't get me wrong! I just think that there were zero redeemable qualities about Julia no matter how you spin it, and she spent the entire series trying to mold Benjamin into another person she could control by promising him things and doing things for him and then makinf him feel guilty for accepting.

He might have found parts of her 'safe' and comforting, especially in their down time and when it was just the two of them, but whenever they were with anyone else, it seemed like everything she did was a show, and was designed to throw him off. Julia might have been stable financially, but she was not stable mentally. She was not stable emotionally (neither was he), and they were NOT a good match, because in the end, it was always going to be her way or the highway. Her other kids were spoiled brats because she RAISED them to be. She allowed them to grow into the adults that they became, and I feel like it was BECAUSE she spoiled them their entire lives and gave them everything they wanted. Della and Patrick likely acted out because of what they saw and knew about her ex and that relationship, but Leo? She babied him. BABIED him even as an adult because she was so desperate to be loved and needed by someone and before Benjamin came into the picture, Leo was her last hope. She tried to control everyone, and like I said a LONG time ago, respect and admiration has to be earned, and I don't think she did ANYTHING (that we saw in the show) to deserve the respect from anyone - viewers or the other characters - especially from Benjamin . She made him feel guilty about everything. She destroyed his possessions. She isolated him from his friends by having him move out into the countryside. She forced him into interactions with her family VERY quickly. Obviously he had a say in some of this, and could have said no when she asked him to move in ... but his options were limited, and I think that while he might have loved what she could PROVIDE for him, that's where it ends for the most part. I'm not saying that a relationship of that nature couldn't work and shouldn't be an option ... I'm saying this specific relationship wasn't a good one. I truly believe that while he might have loved her - parts of her - for what she could provide for him, he wasn't truly in love with her. I think Kieran's tirade had some merit. I think that he would have been less likely to stick around without the money situation being what it was. Not because he was literally targeting her for her money the whole time, but because to him, the idea of being comfortable and safe and not on the verge of eviction outweighed her crazy. There was clearly a rough edge to him - we saw it in the way he was with Keiran and with Patrick at the end of episode 6. We saw it even with Leo at that dinner. Benjamin might have had some issues, but he wasn't as nice as a lot of people thought he was.

I feel like no matter what I say, we're going to end up on opposite ends of this - because the whole time I watched the show, I WANTED it to come out that he was using her. That he was in it for the WRONG reasons, because Julia was so goddamn MANIPULATIVE of every single person in her life and then WANTED people to feel for her and appreciate her whenever it suited her? No. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. She didn't deserve it.

I will say, though, that Benjamin manipulated her, too - but I think his manipulation (most times) came from a real, emotional place. The panic attacks, the crying, the fear - he couldn't control a lot of that, and while it's still manipulative to keep bringing things up in times of distress, at least there were instances when his his emotions weren't manufactured - unlike Julia's.

gold digger made me CRY which I was not at all expecting. The emotional tension was unreal i was actually quite impressed because I was skeptical about the premise. The abuse subplot was super obvious but I'm also picky... there's always something I don't like

I agree that GD was sort of slow and kind of boring in parts. But I think that it did a good job with the slowly building tension between Cryptkeeper Julia and Benjamin. I think the plot was overall believable because the egos that some people have are ASTOUNDING, and that they did a really good job of keeping Benjamin’s motives a secret the whole time. If anything, Julia was the one using him the whole time. 

I actually asked him a question about the “real” ending of GD during the empire virtual convention over the summer, and he said that there was supposed to be a fistfight between he and Ted ... I always assumed that the end of it, Ted seriously injured Benjamin. When he showed up at the wedding, it was VERY tense and it would have made sense for him to have a gun or something.  Listen, I have not watched as much subpar content for anyone else as I have watched for Ben. I am tired. (Locked In, I am looking specifically at you.)  (Let’s be real. I think most of Taylor Swift’s music is subpar, but Reputation has like ... two good songs on it, and they’re both about Tom Hiddleston)

Just finished Gold Digger

No spoilers:

It was better than I expected. All of the kids are SUPER unlikeable the whole time. Ben and Julia are unreliable narrators but that makes things so much more interesting.

Ben was not lying when he said that he played every scene with dual intent. He did it successfully. REALLY successfully.

Lots of gif-able moments. TWO SPECIFICALLY IN EPISODE THREE.

It took itself too seriously for the first episode and a half, but after that it opened up and got more interesting. Benjamin is a really interesting character, and while a lot of the “twists” are predictable and the relationship between Ben and Julia never feels quite .... right? Real? Plausible? I think it worked.

i’ve been wanting to say this to someone for days but i just researched gold digger recently and i can not stop thinking about this. the pool scene. there is a lot ... just a lot visible and i can not wrap my head around it. omg how did they film that! how much nudity was there actually.

There was a LOT, I agree.

According to him, he was literally nude in the pool, I want to say that he did an interview where he said he was sick for weeks after, but that he would have done it again even though it was unscripted because he felt like it was worth it.

They probably gave him one of those socks for the takes where they were in the pool together but I’m pretty sure that befor she jumped in, he was in there buck naked.
