[ad_1] Seven flights, including an Air India plane en route Chicago, received bomb threat messages through social media handle on Tuesday. The bomb threats led to security agencies carrying out prompt counter-terrorist drills at various airports, leading to delays in the flight schedule, according to reports. The threats were received by airlines via an X handle, just a day after three flights taking off from Mumbai received hoax bomb threats causing major inconvenience for passengers and airlines staff. The seven flights that were targeted by the X handle were – an Air India Express flight from Jaipur to Bengaluru via Ayodhya (IX765), a SpiceJet flight from Darbhanga to Mumbai (SG116), an Akasa Air flight from Bagdogra to Bengaluru (QP 1373), an Air India flight from Delhi to Chicago (AI 127), an Indigo flight from Dammam (Saudi Arabia) to Lucknow (6E 98), an Alliance Air Amritsar-Dehradun-Delhi flight (9I 650) and an Air India Express flight (IX 684) from Madurai to Singapore. Soon after the bomb threats were flagged, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) wrote to cyber security agencies and the X handle issuing the threats was suspended. An Air India Express spokesperson said that they, along with a few other operators, received a “specific” security threat from an unverified social media handle. While the Air India flight headed to Chicago was diverted to Canada, the SpiceJet aircraft taking off from Darbhanga landed safely in Mumbai. The aircraft was cleared after thorough security checks. After all necessary security checks and anti-terror protocols, the bomb threats were declared fake. [ad_2] Source link

We, at FlightsPro, believe that apart from being the best travel agents in London & pioneer in booking your cheap flights, we also need to give you proper guidance on visas and how it actually works.
So, procuring a visa for India is a process that keeps updating. While in 2019, the e-visa for India was only available for 60 days; in April of 2019 it was extended to a year.
Therefore we decided to simply tell you all about types of e-Visas for India, how to get it and what all to keep in mind. For we don’t want you to be scammed by any of the online visa agencies or you be charged double and triple the amount. With proper detailed knowledge, you should be able to sail through the visa process swiftly.
Type of e-Visas in India
Please note that if you anyhow fail to procure e-Visa, a physical visa can be obtained at the Indian Embassy.
e-Tourist Visa (30 days, 1 year, 5 years)
e-Business Visa (1 year)
e-Conference Visa (30 days)
e-Medical Visa (60 days)
e-Medical Attendant Visa (60 days)
However, we think here, you would only need guidance for a tourist visa. If you wish to know about e-business visas, please connect with our travel professionals directly. We are one the best business travel agents in London, UK
Coming back to the e-Tourist visas, here are the three types of tourist visas that you can attain online:
One Month e-Tourist Visa, which is valid up to 30 days and includes double entry
One Year e-Tourist Visa, which is valid up to 365 days and includes multiple entries
Five Year e-Tourst Visa, which is valid up to 5 years and includes multiple entries.
It is also important to note that if you have the 1 and 5 years visas, it doesn’t mean that you can stay in India for the whole time. Since it involves multiple entries, you must exit the country after 90 days. For people travelling from the UK you can stay for 180 days.
Processing time
Usually, a visa for India takes about 3-5 business days. You can add a few more days if you are waiting for your visa to be sent by post to you. However, it is much faster if you are collecting it straight from the centre.
Where can I apply for the Visa from the UK?
The e-Visa can be applied on the website of the Immigration Department or the agency. If you are applying for a physical visa, you will be applying straight at the Indian Embassy. But now, all visa applications are handled by VFS Global. VFS Services is a trusted partner to “The Government of India” in UK and manages the administrative function of the Visa
Why to prefer applying for e-Visa?
Well, e-Visa should be preferred buying online because one - it takes longer to apply for a visa sticker at the embassy and it ends up being more expensive. You will have to wait to be called for your appointment and hence can take longer. The e-Visa is rather procured digitally and later is sent through email.
Permitted Airports
If you have applied for e-Visas, you are permitted to enter only a limited number of airports including Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Bhubaneshwar, Calicut, Chennai, Chandigarh, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Gaya, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Port Blair, Pune, Tiruchirapalli, Trivandrum, Varanasi & Visakhapatnam.
While, Cochin, Goa, Mangalore, Mumbai, and Chennai are the seaports that are accessible with such e-Visas.
Applying Visa through an Agency
Visa application using a trusted visa agency is also preferred by many because there are times when travellers actually fail to use the immigration service’s own website. The little details that you require to submit on the form is often ambiguous and no matter how small the mistake is, will result in a failed application. Sometimes, you often face issues uploading the documents in the correct format. Therefore, travellers sometimes do prefer going through an agency rather than a DIY.
FlightsPro, can guide you though some of the trusted visa agencies or guide you through the process of doing it yourself online.
Just that it is extremely important that you choose the visa agency very carefully. Do read up their customer ratings and first-hand reviews to know more about their authenticity because there have been cases of scamming when it comes to visa agencies.
Can I get an e-Visa on arrival in India?
No. Unless you are from Japan, South Korea or the UAE, you cannot get a Visa on Arrival.
Is my e-Visa applicable for all parts of India?
No. Your visa might not be for some of the restricted and protected areas in Northeast India, Sikkim, Jammu & Kashmir and parts of Himachal.
Can I apply for my Visa last minute?
No. It is not advisable at all because even an emergency visa takes a minimum of 2 days. And, believe us, we have had cases where people had to change or cancel their flights just because they chose to apply for the visa last minute.
Where can I check for a visa application?
You can email [email protected] if you have applied it online yourself.
Can I just book a one-way ticket to India?
No. Now, this is the important part of the Indian visa application process that you have to either book a return flights or onward journey.
Conclusion
Please note that FlightsPro would always recommend to do it yourself online if you have plenty of time because visa fees are always returned in full if you fail to pass through. And, you can always apply again. However, if you are short on time or have planned your trip last minute, always go through a trusted visa agency that can help you streamline the Indian Visa Application process and do it for you at affordable prices.

The North Eastern Peregrination.
As I was gearing up to get hitched around Christmas time, me and my bestie came up with a crazy idea to go on my last trip as Miss Shetty to the landlocked state of Sikkim.
Heading on a week long vacation to a place roughly ~2500 kms away from home is no big deal. But, getting your family’s approval to do it a month before your wedding?! Well, that’s a different story altogether. Once the families were convinced and tickets were booked all that remained was to wait for the day to fly away to the mountains.
We planned to go on a 10 day trip which would cover Gangtok, North Sikkim, Namchi, Kalimpong and Darjeeling.
Day 1: Bengaluru to Bagdogra
Mid-air between Bangalore & Bagdogra
Days rolled by, with us lost in the monotonous routines of our corporate lives, and finally it was time to head to the mountains. We had a flight scheduled to leave Bangalore at 11 AM. It would land in Bagdogra around 3 PM. Now, Bagdogra is a city in West Bengal and is the closest airport in case you are headed to Gangtok by air. Gangtok is perched on top of the hill and reaching it from the airport takes around 4 hours. Excited, we girls rushed to Parking Lot #3 where the taxi we booked awaited us. Famished, we headed to ‘Ladoo Gopal’, a nice little vegetarian restaurant on the highway just a few minutes away from the airport. And boy, were we in for a surprise?! When we walked in, it was sunny and by the time we stepped out, the city seemed to have put on a foggy facade. It was a sight to behold. Mesmerized, we hopped onto the car and headed uphill. Teesta and the winding lanes were a delight to a concrete dweller’s parched mind. But as we wound uphill, I was getting sicker by the minute. The early morning waking up, late lunch and the winding roads were taking a toll on me. I got all nauseous and we were forced to take a break, so that I could get some fresh air. But pukey me did not have much to complain. It was apparently the Big Moon that day and a stroll under the moon, with Teesta roaring below us was all that I ever needed. We were to spend the night in Doma Palace. Our room was the one with a view. The room looked upon the tiny city, which was now reduced to glimmering house lights with a majestic moon towering over them. Soon I found myself cosy up into the folds of my warm blanket in our hotel room and drift away.
Day 2: Gangtok to Lachen
We woke up to a wonderful view right out of our living room. The glimmering city lights were now replaced by the glistening peak. This was our first encounter with Mt.Kangchendzönga.
Voila! A bird’s-eye view of the city from our living room!
Today was what I call a ‘Journey Day’ i.e most of the day will be lost commuting. But nonetheless, the route is so beautiful when travelling in these mountainous regions that one wouldn’t complain about the long journey. We booked a shared taxi for the North Sikkim journey. Which meant that we’d be travelling with other fellow tourists, living in the same houses and sight seeing together for the next 3 days.
Bestie @ the Seven Sisters Waterfall
Short break en route North Sikkim
Goofball in me likes showing off the ring!
Lachen is a small town in North Sikkim which literally means ‘Big Pass’.It normally takes about 6 hours to reach the little town from the capital city given that it’s a long bumpy ride further uphill.By the time we reached, it was dinner time and we were greeted with a blast of icy breeze as a reminder that we had gotten a little higher up and a little more closer to the Himalayas. Our hostess served us a lemony beverage, you could call it tea but it wasn’t the normal tea we have back home. This one was runny, had a subtle flavour of lemon and a distinct taste since it was made from the yak’s milk. It soon soared up in my list of favourite drinks as I sat in our homey room, sipping on the piping hot drink, acclimatizing in a jiffy! Our room was on the outer side of the house on the 2nd floor and we had this continuous din to keep us company. A gushing gutter by the window. Yes, we could hear the water flowing on the road from within our room! There’s nothing more soothing than the silence that the mountains hold. A hearty home cooked meal and the gushing din put us to sleep in no time. We had a wake up call at 3 AM. We would soon be going higher up.
Day 3 : Gurudongmar Lake
It’s day 3 and finally time for some sight seeing! We wake up at 2 AM pumped up to head off for a night ride up the mountain in about an hour. Let me remind you, at 3 AM it’s freezing out there and more the layers, the merrier. Gurudongmar Lake(henceforth referred to as GL) is at an altitude of 17,800 ft and is one of the highest lakes in the world. It is a 3 hour bumpy ride from sleepy little Lachen. Crawling up the snaking roads we go up, up & above. The surreal mountains mesmerise you with their calm demeanour glowing in the moonbeam. The ride to GL is still vividly etched in my mind. And why not? For it’s among one of my favourite ride on the trip. You will be left spellbound by the scenes that unravel as the dawn draws closer. The icy peaks that shimmer in the soft moonbeam start dazzling once the sun starts rising. And if you are as lucky as we were, you may even witness both Sun and Moon beaming gloriously in a single frame.
En route to Gurudongmar Lake
Though the last leg of the route has silky smooth road, most parts of it is rugged and bumpy. Cruising over a rickety bridge and those rocky curves is a total adrenaline rush. Nothing in this world could give you the high that a fresh icy breeze in the mountain does. The bridges thug and the roads are dusty. This adventure isn’t for the faint of the heart. The night walk on the deserted Lachen roads waiting for our travel mates to huddle into the jeep was just a head start. True adventure begins when your driver has a flair to drive fast on crumbling mountainous range trashing you all around. And we sure were blessed with one hell of a rider!
A little temple onlooking the holy lake.
Us!
But all that pain did not go in vain. GL is a beauty, one of it’s kind. It is advised to take medication for high altitude along in case you are among the ones that have a hard time acclimatizing. The air gets thinner at the lake and more so when you walk down to get closer to the water. All our travel mates had a tough time acclimatizing while I froze my ass off on the icy bench. Yes I know! Silly me. What was I thinking plonking my tush on the bench in that climate. But, I was drunk on the beauty. Serenaded by the tranquil that the mountains exude. So high, that my senses took a time off.
The pristine Gurudongmar Lake.
On our way back we halted at Thangu for breakfast at a shack. Now don’t go hoping for a fancy breakfast. But let me assure you it sure was delicious. Hot loaves of bread smothered with abundant butter and a sprinkle of coconut shavings. A delightful breakfast across the fire. Whilst the rest of the pack was busy resting, me and my bestie got some time off for a brief rendezvous with Teesta. Sitting on the rock bed, the gushing river and the gleaming sunlight wrapped us in the warmth of simple rustic life. But alas, this too had to end soon as we headed down to a hearty home cooked lunch.
Thangu
Lachen-Lachung
Having filled our tummies with homegrown sweet potato, squash and chicken, we reluctantly settled in the jeep. The short ride down the trail that we now cruised was nothing like it was last night. In the toasty sunlight, teal Teesta enticed us with her beauty. I have to tell you, she is a lot like North-Eastern women. Pretty, fierce and strong. They are a delight to watch when in charge!
Just when we were leaving, bestie intends to take one last picture. And this little guy throws in a ‘Yo’ instantaneously. We all want a good picture now, don’t we?!
Lachung is a cozy hamlet. It’s scenic, peaceful and a refreshing break for a tired mind. Since we had the evening to rest in, we decided to explore the village and stroll around. This place stole my heart away with it’s beauty and the ever so curious villagers that were more than eager to have a little chat with us. The mountain range is so close from up here, I almost felt like I could stretch my fingers and just touch ‘em.
An evening in Lachung
This was the view from our room. Not much to complain.Right?!
Day 4: Yumthang Valley/Valley of Flowers & Zero Point/Yumesamdong
En route to Yumthang Valley
Yumthang valley is a short ride from Lachung but is a very scenic ride nonetheless. The valley is not in full bloom with the famous rhododendron in November but is still serene with it’s vast green pasture. It looks like a picture right out of the postcard with lazy yaks grazing over the pastures and basking in the sunshine with the misty mountains in the background. A tributary of Teesta flows past the valley completing the picture. Having spent some time contemplating at the valley we head to the promised land - Zero Point.
Yumthang Valley.
Spot the Goofball?!
The ride gets bumpier and curvier from here and all the more beautiful. As we go higher up, the alpine trees are replaced by tiny colorful shrubs. The contrast between the snow clad mountain and the shrub is hard to miss. I was awestruck by how little streams following on the rugged stony moraine were partly frozen and yet were partly flowing. You can, in fact see the water freeze as it flows downstream. Now, at this time around the year it wasn’t cold enough to freak a pahadi but well within limits to freeze my brain off.
0 Point.
Zero point is famous for it’s perennial snow. At an altitude of 15,300 ft, the civilian road ends here. Though the air is thin, it is very windy and the sun is much more brighter. Be it fooling around in the snow at the foothills of the Himalayas or walking over a frozen river, it’s an experience you don’t want to miss. Zero Point is not part of the North Sikkim package. You will be charged extra for it, but be informed, it’s worth every penny.
The frozen river @ Zero Point.
This was my first encounter with snow and boy, did I love it?! After gorging down the hot piping Maggi, it was time to bid adieu to the mighty mountains. Of all the rides we took in this trip my most favourite was the one downhill from Yumesamdong. Our skilled driver preferred taking perpendicular shortcuts over the curvy mountainous terrain to take us home faster. There were times it almost felt like we were levitating due to the speed, stony moraine and witnessing it all from the front seat of a jeep. This ride was enough to satiate the adrenaline junkie in me.
Gang9.
Boogie, the poser. She was the Lachung homeowner’s li’l princess.
After a quick lunch at Lachung we had to leave for Gangtok, which was a long ride from here. This wraps our brief tryst in this slice of heaven hidden in the landlocked state.
Our cherub, ADITI
Clown with her clone.
Day 5: Gangtok and some lazing around Too tired of running around since two days, we started late from Doma for a day long sightseeing. The itinerary consisted of Ban Jhakri waterfall, Ganesh Tok, Hanuman Tok, Tashi view point, a monastery, Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, Orchid show and the likes of it.
En route to Gangtok
We were lucky to have a chatty driver to keep us company. He was a boon to my curious mind. I had a hundred questions and he had a 1000 stories to narrate! And when words failed he compensated it with expressions. Mr. Manish was an interesting man. Places visited today were a lot touristy and I’d rather go around on my own digging in the history than be shown around. Like how I accidentally sniffed out Do-Drul Chorten, an old stupa perched atop a hill just a stone throw away from the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology. A visit to the flower show quenched my thirst for the indigenous floral beauty of Sikkim. At least that’s what I thought, but alas, it only left me wanting more. We spent the rest of the evening shopping and Thukpa tasting.
Ban Jhakri Waterfalls.
Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the prettiest of them all!
Quick note:
For ladies looking out for some chic outfit, “Girlfriends” is a must visit. You will find it on the 3rd floor in MG Marg diagonally opposite to Hotel Doma Palace.
MG Marg is one of the cleanest streets that I have ever seen but is always crowded. If you are like me, a stickler for personal space and solitude, I’d suggest you to take walk on the street early in the morning. This is when most of the tourists are still asleep, the fog hasn’t risen off the road yet and there is no one on road except you and the sneaky pigeons out for a walk.
Personally I wasn’t impressed with the Tashi view point, I’d rather say the view from Hanuman tok was much clearer and better.
And if your driver insists on taking you to the plant conservatory, skip it. There really isn’t much there too.
The amazing view at Hanuman Tok.
The cerulean beauty.
Day 6: Nathula Pass, Tsomgo Lake, Baba mandir and Sherathang.
Well rested, we were to take another short, one day trip to Nathula pass in a shared taxi. I was pretty excited about it for 3 major reasons:
It fell on the Old Silk Route or Silk Road, an ancient trading route connecting India and China (which happened to be one of my childhood fascinations).
It has a ‘No man’s land’(Yes! You read it right!!).
I’d get to chat with our jawaans!!
As you can see, I was as excited as a kid visiting the zoo for the first time.
Visiting this mountain pass requires a special permit, so make sure you carry valid ID’s and photos along. Also, it is open to the public only from Wednesday-Sunday. So plan your itinerary accordingly.
Nathula , Changu and Beasty.
At an altitude of ~14,140 ft it was quite chilly. The wind was strong and the air thin. The road is a bit bumpy but having endured the roads of North Sikkim, it was a breeze for us. We had a quirky driver with an interesting dressing style. It was easy for me to pull him into a conversation. He kept me informed with the ongoing tourist projects which were to be functional in a few years from now, his home town which happened to be closer by, and about his experiences on these roads.
Frankly, it broke my heart when I heard about the upcoming projects. I know it means tourism would flourish and there’s be a surge in economy but all I saw was this natural beauty losing its innocence. What drove me to Sikkim was it’s raw allure and it’d soon be transformed into a touristy spot. Once up, I chatted with the jawaan on duty that day, spent a few moments revering them for the odds they face everyday to keep us safe in our warm beds. Photography is prohibited at the Indo-Sino Border but you may take a few snaps from the parking space below.
We quickly rode down to Baba Harbajan Singh mandir and then down to Tsomgo Lake or as the locals call it - Changu Lake. This glacial lake is held in great reverence by the Sikkimese and is believed to hold great healing power. The descent was pleasant. Though we started on a bright sunny morning, the clouds were rolling in by afternoon. We stopped at a point which had an amazing vantage point. We took this impromptu break here to admire the beauty while it lasted. All we could see was a valley of clouds, fluffy cotton candy-ish clouds surrounding us all around. The road bends and is lost into the cloud. At that point of uncertainty, where you absolutely have no clue what lies beneath you or what’s ahead, when a cloud hits you in the face, that blast of chilly freshness is E.X.H.I.L.A.R.A.T.I.N.G.
At Changu, I had my heart’s content of ruffling an Yak’s fur and petted it for however long I was allowed to. Boy oh boy, I am in love with these gentle beasts. It’s hard not to fall for these cuddle monsters. Last stop, Sherathang. This is a dingy Indo-Sino trade mart which also houses the world’s highest altitude Internet cafe. We stopped here to grab a quick bite before wrapping up the tour. You will find a wide variety of woollen goods here, my personal favourite being the quirky caps! Once we were back in Gangtok, we had a pleasant evening strolling around M.G.Marg. While me and my bestie squabbled about where to eat dinner on our last night in Gangtok, we were in for a surprise. We happened to chance upon the Chakravorty family and it was decided that we’d be having our dinner with chirpy little kiddo Aditi before we bid adieu. They were off to Varanasi and we to Darjeeling the following morning.
…We’ll meet again Don’t know where Don’t know when But I know we’ll meet again Some sunny day…
They are my favourites from Gang of 9 back in North Sikkim. They are a family that broke stereotypes. They showed me that you could travel even with a kid that young and what stole my heart was how they made memories as a family. Every.Single.Time. Mr & Mrs Chakravorthy aren’t like other couple that bicker even on a holiday. Given that I was to be wedded in a month’s time, I did look up to them!
Day 7: Namchi , Ravangla
We left Gangtok early to cover Namchi and Ravangla before halting in Darjeeling overnight. I left Gangtok with a heavy heart, for I knew I’d miss the serene morning walks, the smack dab clean roads and the ever-so-friendly people of Sikkim. I had driven around Gangtok at varied times. Be it the night , afternoon or evening. But my most favourite ride of them all was the one we took this morning. The roads were wet with the melting fog, fresh breeze caressed my hair, while the chirpy birds perked my mood. It was a blissful morning for sure! We had our breakfast in a tourism hotel on the way which had an amazing view of the Teesta. The food was surprisingly good and they had the best lemon tea that I have had until now.
The Buddha Park.
First destination for the day was the Tathagata Tsal or The Buddha Park at Ravangla. You’ll be awed by the lofty Buddha statue sitting amidst the snow-capped mountain range and the lush green forest. The structure is a treasure trove of beautiful paintings depicting the early life of Sakyamuni Buddha. It also has numerous statues within the premises. I couldn’t stop crushing on the jade Buddha statue at the entrance. He sure was one helluva looker!
Next on list was Samdruptse Hill in Namchi. Namchi (literally meaning ‘Sky High’ in Sikkimese) houses quite a few sky high statues. Visible from miles away, is the world’s largest statue (at 118 feet) of the Buddhist patron saint Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rimpoche sitting on a lotus plinth high above Namchi on the forested Samdruptse hill. There is a prayer hall at the base and the top of the structure gives you an unrestricted view of Mt.Kanchendzonga. Also visible from up here is the statue of lord Shiva in Solophok Chardham, at a towering height of 82 feet. Our next destination was to visit this temple complex which is spread over an area of 7 acres. Apart from the Lord Shiva statue, it also encompasses replicas of all the 12 Jyotirlingas and the four holy pilgrimages sites of India. After exploring Chardham, we had our lunch here and left for Darjeeling.
Samdruptse.
It’s a long, curvy, foggy road to Darjeeling. I just sat through the entire ride ogling at the scenic route. Meandering past the gigantic pine trees our car wound uphill passing past a tea plantation every once in a while. We were welcomed by the famous toy train that chugged along in all it’s glory at we sat there mesmerized.
Day 8: Darjeeling
We left the comforts of our warm bed way before the crack of the dawn because we had to be at Tiger Hills for the sunrise. The earlier you leave, the lesser you walk since we are all dropped off at the base of the hill and we have to trek up to watch the sunrise. If you reach early, your vehicle takes you closest to the trekkable path. Now, Kumar uncle, our guide/driver for the rest of the tour, a veteran from the Indian Army had already told me about it. We were up and spruced at the said time. You can retire a man from the army but you can never retire the discipline that the army inculcates in the man. And Kumar uncle was a living example of this.
Sunrise @ Tiger Hills.
The sunrise point was massively crowded and I absolutely detested it. But since we’d reached early we got a nice spot to view the spectacle as it unravelled. The changing colours of the peak as the sun’s ray fall on the snow clad mountain range will leave you bewitched.
See that white spot on the left. That’s the moon. No, it’s not a speck of dust. It’s indeed the Moon and the Sun in a single frame.
After this spectacular show, bestie and me were taken to a monastery en route to Batasia Loop, which happens to be a World Heritage Site. Later on in the day we visited the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. HMI is a place to be for all trek enthusiasts. You will be mind blown by the stories and the information that the place holds for you. My sole agenda at the zoo was to see the elusive Red Panda, which we did after a lot of staring at all the trees within its enclosure. I’d say that the zoo is definitely worth a visit. Next we went for the much awaited cable car ride. This was the first time for bestie and she sure did love the ride. It’s a 40min ride which gives you and an amazing view of the Himalayas, parts of the town and the vast sprawling tea plantation. My favourite part? It’s the part where the pod stops moving mid air, allowing you to take your time and look around. Dangling up mid-air right at the middle of the ride, staring at the mighty mountains ahead, peeking down at the vegetation beneath. Best 5 mins ever!! We then went on a tea tour at the Happy Valley and concluded the day long sight seeing. Our hotel was right around the corner where the Mall Road and the Chowrasta starts. We spent evening eating momos, strolling on the Mall Road and visiting every single curio store that I could lay my eyes on! ( And yes, I have an addiction for antics and it’s irremediable ).
Final dinner in Darjeeling.
Day 10: Kalimpong
It was our last day in Darjeeling and also the last day of our long, refreshing trip. We went to Kalimpong for some more sight seeing. First we went to the Pine View Nursery. I was in for a shocker when I saw the Cacti collection this place held. Not only was it in a breathtaking backdrop, it also had a wide range of cacti, succulent and rhododendrons from across the world. I spent an eternity going around their garden and chatting with the lady in-charge. Next came the Deola Viewpoint. Its just another view point uphill. I was forbidden from paragliding or any adventure sports (since you see, i was the ‘BRIDE’ to be). So not having much to do, bestie and me fooled around the lawn & were soon heading back to Darjeeling.
Cacti.
Some more Cacti.
En route Kumar uncle stop at a view point to show the beautiful Teesta-Rangeet confluence and then surprised me by taking us to the Ghoom Monastery. Ghoom was not in the itinerary and a little off the course. But I was craving to visit it since I came to Darjeeling as I had read so much about it!! Uncle eventually gave in and surprised me with by taking me to Ghoom Monastery or Yiga Choeling Monastery. I was ecstatic. Inside Ghoom, you will find a 15-foot statue of The Maitreya Buddha or the Gyalwa Shampa which means ‘the Buddha of the future or the Coming Buddha’. This is one of the biggest and oldest statues of Buddha in Darjeeling area. This statue was created with clay that was all brought from Tibet. In front of the Buddha’s statue there are two huge oil lamps that burn eternally.
Teesta-Rangeet Confluence
Glorious Ghoom.
Day 11: Bagdogra to Bangalore We left Darjeeling early as we had to travel ~70 kms in order to reach Bagdogra. Our last stop in Darjeeling was the ‘Peace Pagoda’ and ‘Japanese Temple’ beside it. You get a wonderful panaromic view of the entire town and the mighty Kangchendzonga when you climb onto the pagoda. Kumar uncle took a shortcut through various plantations and we did make a pit stop in between to have a wholesome Nepali breakfast. As the beautiful scenic route unfurled before us, me and bestie fell silent and just sat back and enjoyed the ride while it lasted. It was finally time to bid adieu to this paradise and get back to the perfunctory corporate life.
The Peace Pagoda
En route to Bagdogra.
PS: If by now you are thinking of going to the north-east for your next holiday, I have a little secret to share.
This trip was an amazing experience and I owe it all to a dear friend. Nimesh Tamang is a friend I hadn’t even met before this trip. Yet, he took up the responsibility of fleshing my itinerary and making all the necessary booking (cabs, hotels, guides,EVERYTHING!). All I did was book our tickets and give Nimesh the dates. He was considerate enough to plan out the entire trip, make the arrangements and also kept checking-in on us at every point in the trip. I owe it all to him. So, the next time you think of planning a trip to the north-east reach out to him. You have my word, he is going to ensure you leave this landlocked state content, amazed and with a treasure trove of memories!
