🔴The Belogradchik Fortress 🔴 . ⚫It is an ancient fortress located on the north slopes of the Balkan Mountains, Belogradchik , Bulgaria. ⚫The initial fortress was constructed when the region was part of the Roman Empire. ⚫It is one of the best-preserved strongholds in Bulgaria and a cultural monument of national importance. ⚫The fortress's walls are over 2 metres (6.6 ft) thick in the foundation and reaching up to 12 m (39 ft) in height. ⚫Three separate fortified yards exist that are connected with each other through gates. Happy Monday and hello from Belogradchik Fortress in Bulgaria! I know we’ve seen a lot of things together, but this fortress is impressive! The initial fortress was constructed during the Roman Empire and it was eventually built higher and extended during the 14th century. The rock formations in the area served as a natural protection since the fortified walls were built in the northwest and southeast. The yard is surrounded by rocks up to 70 m/ 230 ft high from the other sides. Y’all, it was like 95 degrees F this day/ 35 C. I was not having it hiking and exploring in all my gear, but luckily this fortress was spectacular and so worth the clunky boot hike. Your girl even did some bouldering in these moto boots. Belogradchik Fortress

Belogradchik Fortress is located on the north slopes of the Balkan Mountains in Belogradchik, Bulgaria. The original fortress was constructed during the time when the region was part of the Roman Empire in the 3rd century AD. The Romans built roads and provinces in the Balkin peninsula and Belogradchik Fortress to guard them. The fortress was built amid the rocks to allow a natural defense, leaving only the northwest and southwest sections in need of fortifying walls. In the 14th century, Czar Vidin Ivan Stratsmir extended the fortress to include fortified garrisons. The Ottomans captured Belogradchik Fortress in 1396. In the 19th century, under the orders of the Ottoman Turkish authorities, the fortress was expanded and European elements were added by French and Italian engineers. The fortress can hold 3,000 troops and covers a total of 2.5 acres. The fortification walls consist of three sections connected by gates; the walls over 6 feet thick and 39 feet in height. The fortress is one of the best-preserved strongholds in Bulgaria. Belogradchik Fortress is open to the public and managed by the Belogradchik Museum of History.
