Finally feeling like she understood the nuances and intricaties of rearing children of all ages, across generations, Bella approached Cassandra one evening, a strange glow to her. With a heavy voice, but a practiced smile on her lips, she finally asked her daughter, years too late: Am I a good mother, Cassie ? Cassandra looked at her mother. For a long moment, she was silent, the pause heavy hanging between them. Cassie thought to her childhood. The loneliness, the distance between her and her mother. She felt that, to this day, she didn't really know her mother, even after her spirit moved in with them, and helped her raise her son, Corbin. Though in the last year she felt like she got to know her mother once again ... there was still a divide between them. A chasm Bella built, long ago, when she was miserable in her marriage, and neglected to spend time with her children. Cassandra simply replied: You are a good grandmother. With a sad, but content smile, Bella nodded to her daughter, and dissipated into light.
